Анотація:
The archetype of the personality is studied from the position of the culturological analysis, but its psychological component is not investigated. It should be noted that the archetype is capable to predetermine the behavior of the person; therefore, researching of an archetype of the personality is topical. The paper presents the results of the empirical research conducted with the help of “12 archetypes” test (K. Pearson and H. Marr). This test defines the dominating archetype of the personality, but its results are low-informative. 120 students of the Pacific State Medical University (60 young men and 60 girls at the age of 20 – 25 years) participated in the research. In the research “12 archetypes” test (K. Pearson and H. Marr), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, R. Kettell’s Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire (Form C) and V. I. Garbuzov’s questionnaire for diagnostics of the dominating instinct were used. The results allowed expanding the test. Detailed descriptive characteristics of each archetype of Pearson’s system were received.

In this paper, we study several distance-based entropy measures on fullerene graphs. These include the topological information content of a graph I a ( G ) , a degree-based entropy measure, the eccentric-entropy I f σ ( G ) , the Hosoya entropy H ( G ) and, finally, the radial centric information entropy H e c c . We compare these measures on two infinite classes of fullerene graphs denoted by A 12 n + 4 and B 12 n + 6 . We have chosen these measures as they are easily computable and capture meaningful graph properties. To demonstrate the utility of these measures, we investigate the Pearson correlation between them on the fullerene graphs.

Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by structural and functional disorder of the kidney with irreversible and gradual characteristics with one of the modalities of renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis (HD). The role of inflammation in HD patients by uremic toxin and dialysis can be assessed by the marker of High Sensitive C Reactive Protein (HsCRP). Several studies have examined the relationship between HsCRP and red cell distribution width (RDW) in regular HD patients which leads to increase patient morbidity and mortality, but until now, there has been no study in Indonesia regarding the correlation between HsCRP and RDW in regular HD patients. This study aims to determine the correlation HsCRP as a marker of inflammation and RDW values in regular HD patients. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in Regular HD patients at Dialysis Unit-H. Adam Malik General Hospital. A total of 20 subjects were included. Bivariate and multivariate analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship of HsCRP, ureum, creatinin, hemoglobin, and eGFR to RDW. Results: There were 20 Regular HD patients analyzed. The proportion of patients with increased RDW was 80%. In pearson correlation test, there is a strong correlation between HsCRP and RDW (r= 0.667, p<0.001). Discussion: Majority of regular HD patients at H. Adam Malik General Hospital were assessed with increased RDW. Pearson correlation analysis revealed HsCRP was significantly associated with RDW. Conclusion: Increased RDW was found in 80% of regular HD patients at H. Adam malik General Hospital. From pearson correlation analysis, we found HsCRP was significantly associated with RDW. Abstract Background: Automated cell-level characterization of the tumor microenvironment (TME) at scale is key to data-driven immuno-oncology. Artificial intelligence (AI)-powered analysis of hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) images scales and has recently been translated into diagnostics. However, robust TME analysis solely based on H&E data is bound by the stain's properties and by manual pathologist annotations, both in number and accuracy. In this study, we quantify the error introduced by pathologists' morphological assessment and mitigate this error by training AI-systems without manual pathologist annotations, using labels determined directly from IHC profiles. Methods: The work was carried out on 239 clinical NSCLC cases. CK-KL1, CD3+CD20, and Mum1 were used for defining carcinoma (CA), lymphocyte (LY), and plasma (PL) cells. For evaluation, representative regions were annotated by 3 trained pathologists. The workflow is based on co-registration of same-section H&E and IHC stained images with single cell precision. Cells were detected in H&E and labelled using rule-based algorithms that incorporated IHC information. This H&E data was used to train neural networks (NN). Results: (A) The inter-rater agreement of pathologists annotating on H&E is increased when information from registered IHC images is provided. (B) The concordance of pathologists on H&E-only compared to on H&E+IHC shows that pathologists miss or misclassify cells with a certain error. (C) NNs trained with IHC-based labels achieve similar performance for cell type classification on H&E as pathologists on H&E. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the value of combining histomorphological and IHC data for improved cell annotation. Our novel workflow provides a quantitative benchmark and facilitates training of accurate AI models for quantitative characterization of tumor and TME from H&E sections. The thermodynamics of five Al3Er compounds were investigated through first-principles density-functional theory (DFT) and experimental analysis. The Al3Er compounds with Al3Ho.hR20 (prototype Al3Ho, Pearson symbol hR20), Cu3Au.cP4, AlNd3.hP8, Ni3Ti.hP16 and Al3Gd.hR12 structures exhibited formation energies of −0.412(−0.417), −0.411(−0.416), −0.400(−0.413), −0.399(−0.345) and −0.342(−0.345) meV/atom when using DFT with “standard” potential (“frozen core” potential) of Er. The results indicated that the Al3Ho.hR20 structure was the thermodynamic stable phase and the other structures were metastable. The formation energy of Cu3Au.cP4 structure was only 1 meV/atom less than that of Al3Ho.hR20. Experimentally, the Al-30 wt.% Er alloys were cooled from 900 °C to 500 °C at the rate of 5 ± 2 °C/h and 60 ± 2 °C/h, respectively. The corresponding XRD analysis showed that the Al3Ho.hR20 was formed at the cooling rate of 5 ± 2 °C/h and the Cu3Au.cP4 was formed at the cooling rate of 60 ± 2 °C/h, which indicated that the Al3Ho.hR20 was in a thermodynamic stable phase and the Cu3Au.cP4 was in a metastable phase with high stability. The structural analysis indicated that the tiny energy difference between Al3Ho.hR20 and Cu3Au.cP4 might be attributed to a similar structure with varied stacking sequences.

Automated acoustic indices to infer biological sounds from marine recordings have produced mixed levels of success. The use of such indices in complex marine environments, dominated by several anthropogenic and geophonic sources, have yet to be understood fully. In this study, we introduce a noise resilient method based on complexity-entropy (hereafter named C-H) for the detection of biophonic sounds originating from fish choruses. The C-H method was tested on data collected in Changhua and Miaoli (Taiwan) during the spring in both 2016 and 2017. Miaoli was exposed to continual shipping activity, which led to an increase of ~10 dB in low frequency ambient noise levels (5–500 Hz). The acoustic dataset was successively analyzed via the acoustic complexity index, the acoustic diversity index and the bioacoustic index. The C-H method was found to be strongly correlated with fish chorusing (Pearson correlation: rH < −0.9; rC > 0.89), and robust to noise originating from shipping activity or natural sources, such as wind and tides (rH and rC were between 0.22 and −0.19). Other indices produced lower or null correlations with fish chorusing due to missed identification of the choruses or sensitivity to other sound sources. In contrast to most acoustic indices, the C-H method does not require a prior setting of frequency and amplitude thresholds, and is therefore, more user friendly to untrained technicians. We conclude that the use of the C-H method has potential implications in the efficient detection of fish choruses for management or conservation purposes and could help with overcoming the limitations of acoustic indices in noisy marine environments.

The Earth’s surface bistatic reflectivity Γ L H C P , C y G N S S is experimentally characterized using the novel Global Navigation Satellite Systems Reflectometry (GNSS-R) L-band passive multistatic radar technique from the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite Systems (CyGNSS) eight-microsatellite constellation. The focus of this study is to evaluate the influence of the GNSS satellites’ elevation angle θ e on Γ L H C P , C y G N S S , as a function of soil moisture content (SMC) and effective surface roughness parameter h . As the average response, the change of the scattering regime at a global scale and considering also vegetated surfaces appears at θ e ≈ 55°. This empirical observation is understood as a change on the dominant scattering term, from incoherent to coherent. Then, the correlation of Γ L H C P , C y G N S S and SMC is evaluated as a function of θ e over specific sparsely vegetated target areas. The smoother the surface, the higher the angular variability of the Pearson correlation coefficients. Over croplands (e.g., Argentinian Pampas), an improved correlation coefficient is achieved over angular ranges where the coherent scattering regime becomes the dominant one. As such, this function depends on the surface roughness. The maximum correlation coefficients are found at different θ e for increasing mean roughness levels: r P a m p a s ≈ 0.78 at θ e ≈ [60,70]°, r I n d i a ≈ 0.72 at θ e ≈ [50,60]°, and r S u d a n ≈ 0.74 at θ e ≈ [30,40]°. SMC retrieval algorithms based on GNSS-R multi-angular information could benefit from these findings, so as to improve the accuracy using single-polarized signals.

Salah satu dampak pertumbuhan penduduk di Kota Malang adalah peningkatan debit limpasan permukaan dan penurunan imbuhan air tanah yang mengakibatkan genangan di musim hujan dan kekurangan air di musim kemarau. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengusulkan rehabilitasi saluran guna meningkatkan pelayanan drainase. Untuk melakukan penelitian ini diperlukan data curah hujan dari tiga stasiun terdekat yaitu Dinoyo, Blimbing dan Tajinan tahun 2009-2018, peta topografi, dan dimensi saluran dan bangunan eksisting. Data curah hujan disiapkan dengan melakukan analisis data yang hilang, uji konsistensi dengan kurva massa ganda, dan analisis curah hujan areal. Distribusi curah hujan rancangan dihitung dengan Log Pearson Type III dengan periode ulang 5 tahun. Survei lapangan dilakukan untuk menilai dimensi dan kualitas drainase yang ada beserta strukturnya. Pemeliharaan dilakukan sesuai dengan kondisi di lapangan. Perencanaan drainase berwawasan lingkungan sumur resapan dan perencanaan desain ulang saluran sekunder dipilih sebagai pengurang debit rancangan. Berdasarkan perencanaan tersebut, didapatkan hasil Q total sumur resapan sebesar 1,23537 m3/dt dengan pembagian sumur resapan kecil sebanyak 32 buah dan sumur resapan besar sebanyak 40 buah. Perencanaan desain ulang saluran sekunder blok C1 didapatkan dimensi b = 1 ; h = 1,3 menggunakan kontruksi U Ditch 100x120x120 yang dapat menampung debit hingga sebesar 1,8665 m3/dt.

The CIEL∗a∗b∗ coordinates and the total organic carbon content in compost were correlated. Two particle sizes of 0.5 and 2 mm were obtained in the compost samples; the surface color was analyzed with a CIEL∗a∗b∗ colorimeter and the total organic carbon content by spectrophotometry at 588.9 nm. The results indicate that all chromaticity values were significantly affected (p<0.001) by particle size. Chromaticity values a∗, b∗, C∗, and h° showed significantly strong Pearson correlations (r>0.95). The coordinates a∗ (r=−0.992) and b∗ (r=0.968) have the potential to be used in estimating the total organic carbon concentration in the compost samples analyzed.

The mapping curriculum was done by looking at the suitability curriculum with the stages of child development, needs of children, using the child-centered learning process, and taking ad-vantage of technological development. Subjects were 32 kindergarten institutions in Jakarta (North Jakarta and Jakarta Central), from 14 districts. Kindergarten institutions selected by representing every district. In collecting data, the researchers conducted an analysis content of curriculum and interview with respondents and informants in kindergarten institutions ei-ther principals or teachers in schools who selected as samples. The research team conducted a meeting to gather information that recorded as a result of observation and described in-depth interviews in the diary of researchers — the data collected from 16 kindergartens that are willing to research subject. BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a significant contributor to dyslipidemia, which can contribute in cardiovascular complications. Vitamin D is crucial in preventing chronic metabolic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease (cardiovascular disease [CVD]). AIM: The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between Vitamin D levels and cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes mellitus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is cross-sectional in nature. The study sampled 89 diabetic patients who met the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria. After a 10 h fast, a venous blood test is performed to determine Vitamin D levels, apolipoprotein-A levels, total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglyceride levels. The data are analyzed using SPSS. The Pearson correlation test (p > 0.05) was used to determine the connection. RESULT: Vitamin D levels were found to correlate with Apo-A1, TC, HDL-C, and triglyceride levels (p = 0.05), but not with LDL-C levels (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Vitamin D supplementation may assist DMT2 patients minimize their chance of developing CVD problems.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate equations to estimate the aboveground phytomass of a 30 years old plot of Atlantic Forest. In two plots of 100 m², a total of 82 trees were cut down at ground level. For each tree, height and diameter were measured. Leaves and woody material were separated in order to determine their fresh weights in field conditions. Samples of each fraction were oven dried at 80 °C to constant weight to determine their dry weight. Tree data were divided into two random samples. One sample was used for the development of the regression equations, and the other for validation. The models were developed using single linear regression analysis, where the dependent variable was the dry mass, and the independent variables were height (h), diameter (d) and d²h. The validation was carried out using Pearson correlation coefficient, paired t-Student test and standard error of estimation. The best equations to estimate aboveground phytomass were: lnDW = -3.068+2.522lnd (r² = 0.91; s y/x = 0.67) and lnDW = -3.676+0.951ln d²h (r² = 0.94; s y/x = 0.56).

Planning and managing the activities of a medical organization in the context of a biological challenge associated with the spread of a new coronavirus infection (COVID‑19) is an urgent task for the healthcare system, determining the possibilities of its functioning in the conditions of transformation and re-profiling of the bed fund, mobilization of human, material and technical resources. Based on the results of assessing the parameters of the activities of a medical organization, it is possible to systematize and streamline the work of its structural divisions. P u r p o s e of the study is to determine the optimal burden on medical workers, to establish factors that affect the duration of hospitalization and determining the outcomes of the disease among patients with COVID‑19. M a t e r i a l s a n d m e t h o d s . The retrospective continuous study of hospitalizations of 7576 patients was planned and conducted with an analysis of the duration of hospitalization, the dependence of the results of hospitalization on gender and age, as well as the impact on this indicator of the severity of the disease (using Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient (r-Pearson)) and analysis of survival by evaluating Kaplan-Meier. R e s u l t s . The results of the analysis showed that the average number of patients per doctor per month was 28,23 ± 13,27 patients [IQR: 16,93; 41,25]. The dependence of the duration of hospitalization on sex and age showed the absence of statistical significance between these indicators (r-Pearson = 0,079; p < 0,001). The dependence of the duration of hospitalization on the severity of the course of the disease showed no statistical significance between these indicators (r-Pearson = 0,04; p < 0,001). The risk of death was increased with the length of hospitalization. C o n c l u s i o n . The results of study are relevant for public health specialists who plan the resources of medical organizations and assess the possibilities of using the bed fund.

Plasma concentrations of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) are raised in patients with left ventricular dysfunction. Measurement of this peptide has a potential diagnostic role in the identification and assessment of patients with heart failure. The stability of this peptide over time periods and conditions pertaining to routine clinical practice has not been reported previously. Blood samples were obtained from 15 subjects. One aliquot was processed immediately, and the remaining portions of the blood samples were stored for 24 h or 48 h at room temperature or on ice prior to processing. Plasma concentrations of NT-proBNP were measured with a novel immunoluminometric assay developed within our laboratory. Mean plasma concentrations of NT-proBNP were not significantly different whether blood samples were centrifuged immediately and stored at -70 °C or kept at room temperature or on ice for 24 h or 48 h. The mean percentage differences from baseline (reference standard) were +5.2% (95% confidence interval +18.2 to -7.8%) and +0.8% (+15.2 to -13.7%) after storage for 24 h at room temperature or on ice respectively, and +8.9% (+24.2 to -6.5%) and +3.2% (+15.1 to -0.9%) for storage for 48 h at room temperature or on ice respectively. Pearson correlation coefficients for baseline NT-proBNP concentrations compared with levels at 48 h at room temperature or on ice were r = 0.89 and r = 0.83 respectively (both P < 0.0001). Thus NT-proBNP extracted from plasma samples treated with EDTA and aprotinin is stable under conditions relevant to clinical practice.

A quantitative and qualitative study of interstitial fauna and environmental variables was carried out on five selected sandy beaches of the west coast of India. Species of nine interstitial taxa abound the beaches. Nematodes, harpacticoid copepods, turbellarians, and polychaetes constituted the bulk of the population. The available energy in the beaches ranged from 0.2245 to 16.08 joules/mg and the grain size varied from 0.93 to 2.88φ. Organic matter correlated significantly with coarse sand (Pearson correlation r=0.651; P<0.01). Organic carbon, particle size, and dissolved oxygen determined the abundance and distribution of interstitial fauna as per multivariate BIOENV analysis. Shannon Wiener H′ diversity index was maximum at Cherai (2.027) and minimum at Sakthikulangara (1.144) beach. The value of nematode/copepod ratio (N (2A)/C>10) indicated at Sakthikulangara beach validates the increased sensitivity of harpacticoids to environmental stress.

Germination test is used to assess the physiological quality of seeds; however, since it is carried out under ideal conditions, this test has not been shown sufficient for this purpose. Instead, it is possible to use vigor tests, although the lack of standardized methodologies has reduced their applicability and reproducibility. Thus, this study aimed to develop methodologies for conducting tests of germination, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity for the evaluation of the physiological quality of pitaya seeds. For this purpose, seeds from ripe Hylocereus undatus fruits were used. A completely randomized experimental design was used with four replications. The physiological quality of the seeds was assessed using germination, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity tests, and the speed of germination index (SGI) and mean germination time (MGT) were determined for both the germination test and accelerated aging test. For the statistical analysis, we performed regression model adjustments and calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient (p < 0.05). The germination test for H. undatus seeds can be performed at 25 °C, with the aim of reaching the highest SGI and lowest MGT values. The accelerated aging test can be conducted at 43 °C for 48 h, because combining these factors favors the expression of seed vigor, allowing seeds to achieve the maximum SGI and minimum MGT, while reducing the time of the assay. The electrical conductivity test can be performed using 25 seeds at a temperature of 30 °C and a water volume of 10 mL, since under these conditions there is less interference from external factors on the leachate content of the solution.

SUMMARY The objective of this study was to determine the degree of conversion (DC), hardness (H), and modulus of elasticity (E) of a dual-cured resin cement, a light-cured resin cement, and a flowable resin cured through opaque or translucent ceramic with different exposure times. RelyX ARC (dual), RelyX Veneer (light-cured), and Filtek Z350 Flow resin specimens 0.5 mm thick were cured for 40, 80, and 120 seconds through 1-mm thick translucent or opaque feldspathic ceramic disks (n=10). The specimens were stored at 37°C for 24 hours. Half of each specimen was used to test the DC and the other half to test H and E. The DC was determined in a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer in absorbance mode at peaks of 1638 cm−1 and 1610 cm−1. H and E were determined using nanoindentation with one loading cycle and a maximum load of 400 mN. The data were analyzed with three-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the Games-Howell test, and the Pearson correlation test (α=0.05). Statistically significant differences were found for all three factors (material, opacity, and exposure time), as well as interaction between them. The opaque ceramic resulted in lower DC, H, and E than the translucent ceramic for an exposure time of 40 seconds. An exposure time of 120 seconds resulted in a similar DC for all materials, irrespective of the opacity of the ceramic. Materials cured for 120 seconds had higher H and E than those cured for 40 seconds. The exposure time and opacity of the ceramic exerted an influence on the DC, H, and E of the materials evaluated.

Abstract. Biomass burning (BB) and coal combustion (CC) are important sources of brown carbon (BrC) in ambient aerosols. In this study, six biomass materials and five types of coal were combusted to generate fine smoke particles. The BrC fractions, including water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC), humic-like substance carbon (HULIS-C), and methanol-soluble organic carbon (MSOC), were subsequently fractionated, and their optical properties and chemical structures were then comprehensively investigated using UV–visible spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR), and fluorescence excitation–emission matrix (EEM) spectroscopy combined with parallel factor (PARAFAC) analysis. In addition, the oxidative potential (OP) of BB and CC BrC was measured with the dithiothreitol (DTT) method. The results showed that WSOC, HULIS-C, and MSOC accounted for 2.3 %–22 %, 0.5 %–10 %, and 6.4 %–73 % of the total mass of combustion-derived smoke PM2.5, respectively, with MSOC extracting the highest concentrations of organic compounds. The MSOC fractions had the highest light absorption capacity (mass absorption efficiency at 365 nm (MAE365): 1.0–2.7 m2/gC) for both BB and CC smoke, indicating that MSOC contained more of the strong light-absorbing components. Therefore, MSOC may represent the total BrC better than the water-soluble fractions. Some significant differences were observed between the BrC fractions emitted from BB and CC with more water-soluble BrC fractions with higher MAE365 and lower absorption Ångström exponent values detected in smoke emitted from BB than from CC. EEM-PARAFAC identified four fluorophores: two protein-like, one humic-like, and one polyphenol-like fluorophores. The protein-like substances were the dominant components of WSOC (47 %–80 %), HULIS-C (44 %–87 %), and MSOC (42 %–70 %). The 1H-NMR results suggested that BB BrC contained more oxygenated aliphatic functional groups (H-C-O), whereas CC BrC contained more unsaturated fractions (H-C-C= and Ar−H). The DTT assays indicated that BB BrC generally had a stronger oxidative potential (DTTm, 2.6–85 pmol/min/µg) than CC BrC (DTTm, 0.4–11 pmol/min/µg), with MSOC having a stronger OP than WSOC and HULIS-C. In addition, HULIS-C contributed more than half of the DTT activity of WSOC (63.1 % ± 15.5 %), highlighting that HULIS was a major contributor of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production in WSOC. Furthermore, the principal component analysis and Pearson correlation coefficients indicated that highly oxygenated humic-like fluorophore C4 may be the important DTT active substances in BrC.

A cor da madeira é uma característica decisiva na escolha de pisos pelos consumidores. O objetivo deste estudo foi fazer a caracterização colorimétrica de pisos de cinco espécies tropicais amazônicas: Dipteryx odorata (cumaru), Handroanthus spp. (ipê), Hymenaea courbaril (jatobá), Astronium lecointei (muiracatiara) e Bowdichia virgilioides (sucupira-preta), bem como correlacionar os parâmetros colorimétricos com a densidade básica da madeira. A caracterização colorimétrica foi determinada na face superior tangencial dos pisos, obtendo-se os parâmetros colorimétricos L* (luminosidade), a* (coordenada cromática verde-vermelho) e b* (coordenada cromática azul-amarelo), com base no sistema CIEL*a*b*, e os parâmetros C (saturação) e h* (ângulo de tinta) foram calculados. Os resultados foram submetidos à análises de variância e ao teste de Tukey (p≤0,05) para verificar diferenças entre as espécies e avaliou-se a correlação de Pearson entre os parâmetros colorimétricos e a densidade básica da madeira. Os parâmetros colorimétricos variaram entre as espécies, com L* de 47,43 a 63,08; a* de 6,50 a 13,52; b* de 17,74 a 26,16; C de 18,89 a 29,31; e, h* de 61,56 a 69,86 e esses apresentaram baixa variação dentro da mesma espécie. Conclui-se que os pisos de madeira das espécies cumaru, ipê e sucupira-preta são escuros e os de jatobá e muiracatiara, claros. Há uma correlação inversa entre a densidade básica e a luminosidade (L*) das madeiras avaliadas. A colorimetria pode ser utilizada como critério auxiliar de classificação de madeiras destinadas à produção de pisos.

To explore the correlation between frailty score and renal function impairment of elderly patients with hypertension. A total of 124 patients admitted to the Hefei Hospital Affiliated to Anhui Medical University/Hefei Second People’s Hospital between October 2017 and January 2019 with hypertension complicated with frailty were included. Patients with hypertension were divided into the Observation Group and Control Group (62 patients each). The blood pressure variability rate, renal function, and frailty score were compared between the two groups. Furthermore, the correlation between frailty score and renal function index was analyzed. The variations in the 24-h systolic and 24-h diastolic blood pressure in the Observation Group were significantly higher than those in the Control Group (P < 0.05). Levels of cystatin C, homocysteine, urea nitrogen, creatinine, and uric acid were all higher in the Observation Group than in the Control Group, with the difference being statistically significant (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, no statistical difference was observed between urea nitrogen/creatinine and hypersensitive CRP (P > 0.05). Pearson partial correlation analyses showed that the weakness score was positively correlated with systolic pressure variation percentage, diastolic pressure variation percentage, homocysteine, cystatin C, creatinine, and urea nitrogen (P < 0.05). The scores of various dimensions of weakness obtained via further regression analyses showed that the scores of physical frailties were positively correlated with homocysteine and cystatin C (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that frailty score, percentage of diastolic blood pressure variation, and physical weakness were independent factors affecting cystatin C level (P < 0.05). The rate of blood pressure variability is higher and renal function damage is more common in elderly hypertension patients with frailty. Frailty score, percentage of diastolic pressure variation, and physical weakness were independent risk factors affecting renal function.

Background Low temperature is a type of abiotic stress that threatens the growth and yield of asparagus bean. However, the key genes and regulatory pathways involved in low temperature response in this legume are still poorly understood. Methodology. The present study analyzed the transcriptome of seedlings from two asparagus bean cultivars—Dubai bean and Ningjiang 3—using Illumina RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). Correlations between samples were determined by calculating Pearson correlation coefficients (PCC) and principal component analysis (PCA). Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between two samples were identified using the DESeq package. Transcription factors (TF) prediction, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis of DEGs were also performed. Results Phenotypes and physiological indices indicated that Ningjiang 3 seedlings tolerated cold better than Dubai bean seedlings, in contrast to adult stage. The transcriptome dynamics of the two cultivars were closely compared using Illumina RNA-seq following 0, 3, 12, and 24 h of cold stress at 5 °C and recovery for 3 h at 25 °C room temperature. Global gene expression patterns displayed relatively high correlation between the two cultivars (>0.88), decreasing to 0.79 and 0.81, respectively, at 12 and 24 h of recovery, consistent with the results of principal component analysis. The major transcription factor families identified from differentially expressed genes between the two cultivars included bHLH, NAC, C2H2, MYB, WRKY, and AP2/ERF. The representative GO enrichment terms were protein phosphorylation, photosynthesis, oxidation-reduction process, and cellular glucan metabolic process. Moreover, KEGG analysis of DEGs within each cultivar revealed 36 transcription factors enriched in Dubai bean and Ningjiang 3 seedlings under cold stress. Conclusions These results reveal new information that will improve our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the cold stress response of asparagus bean and provide genetic resources for breeding cold-tolerant asparagus bean cultivars.

RESUMO Neste trabalho, objetivou-se quantificar e comparar a serapilheira acumulada em uma floresta em restauração (FR) há 23 anos com uma Floresta Ombrófila Densa primária (FP) adjacente. Foram alocadas 30 parcelas permanentes de 3 x 3 m em cada área. No centro de cada parcela foi coletada a serapilheira (0,50 x 0,50 x 0,05 m). O material foi seco em estufa a 70 °C, durante 48 h, e mensurada a massa de matéria seca. Foi calculada a matriz de correlação de Pearson entre os valores de serapilheira acumulada e as variáveis ambientais índice de área de planta (IAP), compactação do solo e densidade de indivíduos arbustivo-arbóreos do estrato de regeneração natural. Os valores médios encontrados (FR = 3.177 ± 937 kg.ha-1; FP = 4.411 ± 1.389 kg.ha-1) de serapilheira acumulada apresentaram diferença significativa entre as duas áreas estudadas (p < 0,001). A serapilheira acumulada apresentou correlação significativa (p < 0,001) com a compactação do solo e índice de área de planta.

<p>Germination test is used to assess the physiological quality of seeds; however, since it is carried out under ideal conditions, this test has not been shown sufficient for this purpose. Instead, it is possible to use vigor tests, although the lack of standardized methodologies has reduced their applicability and reproducibility. Thus, this study aimed to develop methodologies for conducting tests of germination, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity for the evaluation of the physiological quality of pitaya seeds. For this purpose, seeds from ripe <em>Hylocereus undatus </em>fruits were used. A completely randomized experimental design was used with four replications. The physiological quality of the seeds was assessed using germination, accelerated aging, and electrical conductivity tests, and the speed of germination index (SGI) and mean germination time (MGT) were determined for both the germination test and accelerated aging test. For the statistical analysis, we performed regression model adjustments and calculated the Pearson correlation coefficient (p &lt; 0.05). The germination test for <em>H. undatus </em>seeds can be performed at 25 °C, with the aim of reaching the highest SGI and lowest MGT values. The accelerated aging test can be conducted at 43 °C for 48 h, because combining these factors favors the expression of seed vigor, allowing seeds to achieve the maximum SGI and minimum MGT, while reducing the time of the assay. The electrical conductivity test can be performed using 25 seeds at a temperature of 30 °C and a water volume of 10 mL, since under these conditions there is less interference from external factors on the leachate content of the solution.</p>

El estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el efecto de la raza, momento del día y media de la densidad de pelos (MDenP) sobre la frecuencia cardiaca (FC), frecuencia respiratoria (FR), temperatura de piel (T°P), temperatura rectal (T°R) y diferencia T°R- T°P. Se trabajó con 10 vaquillas (4 Holstein y 6 criollas) entre 14 y 18 meses de edad, criadas al pastoreo y con temperatura ambiental (T°A) promedio de 17.6 °C y humedad relativa (H°R) promedio de 60.5%. Para el monitoreo de la FC, FR y T°P se utilizó un monitor de signos vitales llevable. Las mediciones se hicieron en la mañana, tarde y noche. La evaluación de la densidad de pelaje se realizó mediante el dispositivo FIBER DEN y el diámetro medio del pelo (DMP) con el equipo FIBER EC. Para evaluar el efecto de la raza, momento del día y MDenP sobre la FC, FR, T°R, T°P se aplicó un modelo aditivo lineal con dos covariables (T°A y H°R). Para las comparaciones múltiples se utilizó la prueba de Duncan, y para la evaluación de las relaciones entre las variables se calculó las correlaciones de Pearson. La FC, FR, T°P y la diferencia T°R-T°P fue de 70.1±6.8 lpm, 23.6±7.2 rpm, 31.65±1.35 °C y 7.2±1.5 °C, respectivamente, sin diferencias por raza ni momento del día. La raza no tuvo efecto sobre FR y T°R, pero en la mañana y tarde los animales tuvieron mayor FR que en la noche, al igual que con respecto a la diferencia T°R-T°P. Se concluye que, bajo las condiciones del estudio, la T°A, momento del día y HR tiene efecto sobre la T°R, T°P y la gradiente T°R-T°P, aunque este efecto disminuye cuando el DMP es bajo.

Lifestyle changes have an impact on lipid metabolism. The overload of circulating lipids may lead to endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress and exaggerated inflammatory response, which may be further aggravated in the presence of overweight. This study aims to describe the postprandial metabolism and inflammatory response in overweight and normal-weight adolescents. Sixty-two adolescents aged 11–18 years were divided into two groups: overweight (OW; n=38) and normal weight (NW; n=24). Total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), glucose, insulin, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), fibrinogen and leukocytes were collected for fasting and 4 and 6 h after a oral fat tolerance test (OFTT) consisting of a high-fat meal with 1.000 Kcal, 27.4% carbohydrates, 14.7% protein and 57.8% lipids (30.4% saturated, 32.7% monounsaturated, 26.5% polyunsaturated fatty acids and 288 mg TC). Data were analyzed with repeated measures ANOVA, multiple linear regression, and Pearson, Spearman and partial correlations. OW adolescents showed significantly higher fasting values of TC (P=0.036), LDL-C (P=0.010), fibrinogen (P=0.036) and hs-CRP (P=0.004). All variables, except for glucose, increased in response to OFTT, but there were no interactions between group and time. body mass index z-score was positively correlated to LDL-C, TG, fibrinogen and hs-CRP, and inversely correlated to HDL-C. In conclusion, adolescents with OW showed higher TC, LDL-C and inflammatory markers levels than NW adolescents. These findings have clinical implications for prevention of chronic diseases, as we spend most of our days in a postprandial state.

The electrical conductivity test indirectly evaluates cell membrane disorganization by quantifying the electrolytes released into the water after tissue imbibing. The objective of this work was to evaluate methodological variations in the electrical conductivity test, for it to serve as an indicator of low temperature-induced damages and estimate the cold tolerance of bean plants. Cultivar IPR Uirapuru plants were subjected to minimum temperatures of 4 °C, 2 °C, 0 °C, -1 °C, -2 °C, -3 °C, and -4 °C for 1 h in a growth chamber under controlled conditions. After the treatment period, the response of plants to cold stress was evaluated by determination of the total protein content, and catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) enzymatic activities, and evaluation of photosystem II (Fm/Fv) efficiency and leaf anatomy. These results were compared with those obtained in the electrical conductivity test, which was performed in plants under cold stress as well as under a non-stress environment, with 2, 4, 6, and 8 leaf discs immersed in 30 mL of distilled water for 24 h in BOD, at temperatures of 25 °C, 30 °C, and 35°C. Analysis of variance was performed using a completely randomized design, and for electrical conductivity, a number of discs × cold stress temperature combinations were used for each soak temperature. The averages were compared using the Turkey's test at 5% and 10% probability. Pearson correlation coefficient (r) between the conductivity averages and other cold stress evaluation data was also performed. The results showed a marked reduction in the ratio (Fv/Fm) only in the treatments at -3 °C and -4°C, which indicated tissue death. At temperatures below 0°C, there was a collapse of the leaf blade tissues, and it was not possible to differentiate the palisade parenchyma from the spongy parenchyma in the treatments at -2°C, -3°C, and -4°C. There was an increase in the protein content since the temperature -3°C. The enzyme activity of CAT decrease at -4°C whereas that of APX increased. In the electrical conductivity test, there was a significant interaction between soak temperature and the number of discs, and an increase in conductivity of the solution with a decrease in temperature was verified in several treatments, among which, the combination that best correlated with the other tests was 25°C with six leaf discs. It was concluded that the electrical conductivity test presents results similar to those obtained from other physiological, biochemical, and anatomical tests, and therefore, it can be used to evaluate the damage caused by low temperatures in bean plants.

De acordo com o modelo geométrico desenvolvido pelo New York Obesity Research Center (NYORC), o corpo humano é assemelhado a um cilindro, cuja altura e comprimento são proporcionais. Destacam­ se, assim, os perímetros braquial, da cintura, do quadril, da coxa e da panturrilha como marcadores antropométricos de risco para doenças cardiovasculares. O objetivo foi descrever o valor preditivo da correlação entre as circunferências corporais e marcadores antropométricos de risco para doenças cardiovasculares. Trata-se de estudo transversal comparativo de abordagem quantitativa e qualitativa, realizado com 60 (sessenta) pacientes, cardiopatas ou não, durante atendimento nos ambulatórios do Hospital São José Avaí (HSJA), em Itaperuna/RJ. A organização amostral ocorreu em dois grupos: o dos cardiopatas (G1) e o dos não cardiopatas (G2). Foram elaboradas tabelas descritivas, utilizando-se frequência, média e desvio padrão. Na análise das frequências, o teste qui­quadrado de Pearson preditivo, o nível de significância estatística foi fixado em p &lt; 0,05. A média geral de idade foi de 47 (± 13,34) anos. G1 exibiu médias superiores a G2, no que tange aos valores antropométricos, ao IMC e às médias das circunferências corporais. O coeficiente de correlação de Pearson demonstrou correlação fortemente significativa entre os índices de circunferência e altura/volume (V=π.(C/2π)<sup>2</sup>.H), demonstrado através de matrizes quadradas. As circunferências da cintura e do quadril (ρ = 0,998 e ρ = 0,999) apresentaram proporções semelhantes nos dois grupos. O valor preditivo das circunferências corporais para doenças cardiovasculares é necessário tanto para a prevenção quanto para o tratamento das cardiopatias.

Given previous low sperm decondensation rates and poor oocyte activation in sheep ICSI (10–20%), we evaluated activation techniques for IVM/ICSI. Incubations were performed in a 5% CO2 cell incubator at 38.5°C and saturated humidity. Sheep ovaries were collected at an abattoir and transported <3 h to the laboratory. Follicular fluid was aspirated from 2–8 mm follicles using an 18-gauge needle and syringe with 1 mL of modified Tyrode’s medium supplemented with 10 mM sodium lactate, 10 mM HEPES, and 0.1% polyvinyl alcohol (TL-HEPES-PVA, 7.3–7.4 pH), with 200 IU mL–1 heparin. Cumulus-oocyte complexes (COC) with compact cumulus mass and uniform cytoplasm were selected from the follicular fluid and washed 3× in 500-µL drops of maturation medium (TCM 199) with Earle’s salts and 26.2 mM sodium bicarbonate and l-glutamine with 0.1% polyvinyl alcohol, 0.91 mM sodium pyruvate, 3.05 mM d-glucose, 0.57 mM cysteine, and 10 ng mL–1 epidermal growth factor. Next, 500 µL of maturation medium with 0.5 μg mL–1 LH, 0.5 μg mL–1 FSH, and 10% (vol/vol) of FCS was placed in sterile 4-well plates with 20 to 30 COC/well and with mineral oil for 24 h incubation. The COC were placed in a 500-µL drop of TCM 199-HEPES (TCM 199-H) with 300 IU of hyaluronidase for 3 min and washed (3×) in TCM 199-H. Next, 20 to 30 oocytes were placed in 250-µL droplets of TCM 199-H under a microscope to identify the first polar body (PB). Oocytes with PB were placed in 100-µL droplets of modified Tris-buffered medium (mTBM) for 1 to 4 h of incubation. The groups formed were (1) control: oocytes manipulated as in ICSI but no injection, (2) false injection: oocyte pierced but no sperm insertion, (3) chemical activation (c-a): 7% ethanol (7%Et) × 5 min, (4) c-a: 50 µM calcium ionophore (CaI) × 10 min, (5) c-a: 5 µM ionomicine (Io) × 5 min, (6) ICSI, and (7) 7%Et × 5 min + ICSI. For ICSI, 2 straws of frozen semen from a proven ram were thawed and diluted 1 : 10 with TCM 199-H and 3 mg mL–1 BSA, and then centrifuged 3 min at 200 × g. The sperm pellet was diluted with 100 µL of TCM 199-H, and 2 mL of TCM 199-H was added to a 45° bent tube for a 1-h swim-up. Next, 500 µL of supernatant was diluted to 1 × 106 sperm mL–1 and 10 µL added to 10 µL of 10% polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Five oocytes at a time were placed in a Petri dish with a 10-µL drop of TCM-199-H, with 1% gentamycin, 2% serum, and one 2-µL drop of sperm suspension-PVP. Groups of 10 to 20 oocytes were activated in 100-mL drops of respective chemical in TCM 199-H at 20 to 22°C. Oocytes were washed (3×) in mTBM and set in 200 mL of mTBM for 18 to 20 h of incubation. Oocytes were stained with 10 μg mL–1 Hoechst 33258 for 15 min to assess pronucleus formation. Pearson χ2 tests showed statistical differences (α = 0.05) among the groups (χ2 = 123.165, P < 0.001); for example, groups 1 and 7 (χ2 = 68.179, P < 0.001) and 6 and 7 (χ2 = 42.842, P < 0.001). Results (oocytes, percentage activated) for each group were (1) n = 151, 13.2%, (2) n = 78, 32%, (3) n = 393, 53.6%, (4) n = 350, 46.8%, (5) n = 78, 42.3%, (6) n = 200, 24.5%, and (7) n = 123, 60.9%. The highest percentage of oocyte activation was achieved using 7%Et × 5 min + ICSI.

Because it is a species of tropical climate, the passion fruit is distributed widely in South America, mainly in Brazil. Its cultivation represents approximately 95% of the commercial orchards of the country, nevertheless, it presents productivity below its productive potential, being necessary to obtain cultivars adapted to the climate of the regions of culture. The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of the fruit pulp of yellow passion fruit produced in Jata&iacute;-GO as well as the correlations between some physical and chemical characteristics. The fruits were collected in an experimental orchard and sectioned transversely to obtain the pulp. The characteristics of acidity, vitamin C content, soluble solids content, soluble solids/acidity ratio (Ratio), and pulp color parameters were evaluated through the coordinates L*, a*, b*, C* and h* of yellow passion fruit and of the cultivar FB 200. Data were analyzed by means of analysis of variance and Pearson&rsquo;s correlation at 5% of significance with the aid of the statistical program Rbio. It is concluded that the characteristics of the fruits of the cultivar FB200 differed from the fruits of yellow passion fruit and that these characteristics correlated significantly and positively.

AbstractObjective:To assess the relative validity of a FFQ developed for the Pelotas Birth Cohort Studies.Design:Participants completed a ninety-two-food-item FFQ and then answered two 24-h recalls (24HR), one in-person interview and a second one by telephone, administered 14–28 d apart. Median and relative differences of energy, fifteen nutrients and eleven food groups were estimated based on the FFQ and the average of two 24HR. Nutrients were log-transformed and energy-adjusted using residual method. Validity was assessed by crude, energy-adjusted and de-attenuated Pearson and Lin’s concordance correlation coefficients. Agreement of quartiles and weighted κ were performed. Differences in energy and nutrient estimations between methods were plotted in Bland–Altman graphs.Setting:Pelotas, southern Brazil.Participants:Two hundred fifty-four participants randomly selected from the 1993 Pelotas Birth Cohort during the 22-year follow-up (2015).Results:The FFQ overestimated energy and most nutrients and food groups compared with the two 24HR. Energy-adjusted and de-attenuated Pearson correlation coefficients ranged from 0·21 to 0·66. The highest energy-adjusted and de-attenuated concordance correlation coefficients were observed for Ca (0·48), niacin (0·32), Na (0·29), vitamin C (0·28) and riboflavin (0·25). The percentage of nutrients classified into the same and opposite quartiles ranged from 36·5 to 60·3 %, and from 4·8 to 19·1 %, respectively. Weighted κ was moderate for Ca (0·51), beans and legumes (0·50) and milk and dairies (0·49).Conclusions:The FFQ provides a reasonable dietary intake assessment for habitual food consumption. However, the relative validity was weak for specific nutrients and food groups.

Statistical optimization of the process parameters for submerged fermentation enhances the production of enzymes.Objective:This work is aimed to optimize the culture conditions for the fermentative production of cholesterol oxidase byStreptomyces olivaceusMTCC 6820 using combined Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) techniques.Methods:The ChOx production (U/ml) was modeled and optimized as a function of six independent variables (culture conditions) using RSM and ANN.Results:ChOx production enhanced 2.2 fold,i.e1.9 ± 0.21 U/ml under unoptimized conditions to 4.2 ± 0.51 U/ml after the optimization of culture conditions. Higher coefficient of determination (R2= 97.09 %) for RSM and lower values of MSE (0.039) and MAPE (3.46 %) for ANN proved the adequacy of both the models. The optimized culture conditions predicted by RSMvs. ANN were pH (7.5), inoculum age (48 h), inoculum size (11.25 % v/v), fermentation period (72 h), incubation temperature (30°C) and shaking speed (175 rpm).Conclusion:The modeling, optimization and prediction abilities of both RSM and ANN methodologies were compared. The values of Pearson correlation coefficient (r) (ANN0.98> RSM0.95), regression coefficient (R2) between experimental activity, RSM and ANN predicted ChOx activity, respectively (ANN0.96> RSM0.90) and Absolute Average Deviation (AAD) for (ANN3.46%< RSM9.87%) substantiated better prediction ability of ANN than RSM. These statistical values indicated the superiority of ANN in capturing the non-linear behavior of the system.

Objectives The aim of this study was to evaluate the inter- and intra-observer reliability of quantitative sensory testing performed with the SMall animal ALGOmeter (SMALGO) in healthy cats and in cats with chronic gingivostomatitis (CGS), and to evaluate the SMALGO as a tool to detect and quantify pain in cats with CGS. Methods Thirty cats from a private shelter were included and assigned to one of two groups: group C (healthy cats; n = 15) or group CGS (cats with CGS; n = 15). In all cats the mechanical thresholds were measured with the SMALGO, with the sensor tip applied to the superior lip above the canine root, by two independent investigators (A, experienced; B, unexperienced), on two different occasions (day 1 and day 2) with a 24 h interval. A CGS scale was used in the diseased cats to assess the severity of the condition. For the reliability analysis, intra-class correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated. Other statistical tests used were Pearson correlation coefficient and a paired t-test. Results The inter- and intra-observer levels of agreement were fair (ICC = 0.50) and good, respectively (ICC = 0.73 for investigator A; ICC = 0.60 for investigator B). However, the thresholds measured in healthy cats (169 ± 59 g) did not differ from those obtained from diseased cats (156 ± 82 g; P = 0.35). There was no correlation between the scores of the CGS scale and the thresholds measured in diseased cats (Pearson correlation coefficient = 0.047; P = 0.87). Conclusions and relevance Quantitative sensory testing performed with the SMALGO in cats is repeatable and reliable, regardless of the expertise of the investigator. However, the findings of this study suggest that the mechanical thresholds measured with the SMALGO may not be a valuable indicator of pain in cats with CGS.

Abstract Background: An increased prevalence of hyperhomocysteinemia with an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease events has been reported among stable renal transplant recipients (RTRs). Preliminary studies in a small number of these individuals have shown that serum creatinine and cystatin C, both markers of kidney function and glomerular filtration rate, are independent determinants of fasting tHcy concentrations; however, determinants of tHcy concentrations after a methionine load have not been studied. Methods: We determined the prevalence of both fasting and 4-h post-methionine load (PML) tHcy concentrations in 78 stable RTRs and compared the role of cystatin C with the role of serum creatinine as determinants of fasting and PML tHcy. Results: Of the 78 RTRs, 21 (26.9%) had fasting and PML tHcy within the respective reference intervals, and 57 (73.1%) had increased plasma tHcy. Of these 57 RTRs, 22 had fasting hyperhomocysteinemia, 9 had PML hyperhomocysteinemia, and 26 had combined hyperhomocysteinemia (both fasting and PML). Unadjusted Pearson correlations showed that fasting plasma tHcy correlated with both cystatin C (r = 0.564; P &lt;0.001) and creatinine (r = 0.519; P &lt;0.001) and that increases in PML tHcy modestly correlated with cystatin (r = 0.205; P = 0.072), but not creatinine (r = 0.057; P = 0.624). General linear regression modeling with stepwise analysis of covariance showed that both cystatin C (partial R = 0.554; P &lt;0.001) and creatinine (partial R = 0.535; P &lt;0.001) were independent predictors of fasting tHcy, but of the two, only cystatin C (partial R = 0.242; P = 0.035) was an independent predictor of increased PML tHcy. Conclusions: Clinically stable RTRs have an excess prevalence of moderate hyperhomocysteinemia, and additional cases can be detected by methionine loading. Both creatinine and cystatin C are independent predictors of fasting tHcy in these individuals; however, only cystatin C is a determinant of tHcy concentration after a methionine load, probably because cystatin C is a more sensitive marker of glomerular filtration rate than serum creatinine.

Malaysia is ranked as the second largest oil palm producer in the world after Indonesia. This leads to the generation of large quantities of oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) leaves (OPLs) annually, considered an underutilized oil palm biomass with low economical value. The present study aimed to study the effects of several parameters of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) and the acid hydrolysis of phenolic compounds from OPLs using the single factor experimental approach. The effects of different solvents (hexane, ethyl acetate, 1:1 methanol–ethyl acetate, absolute methanol, and 4:1 methanol–water), solid–liquid ratios (1:20, 1:40, 1:50, 1:60, and 1:70), times (0.5, 1, 2, 3, and 5 h), and temperatures (25, 30, 40, 60, and 70 °C) were investigated for UAE. Moreover, the effects of acid concentration (0.2, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 12 M), incubation time (10, 30, 45, 60, and 90 min), and incubation temperature (65, 75, 85, 90, and 95 °C) on the acid hydrolysis of flavonoid glycosides were also determined. The results revealed that some of the tested parameters had prominent effects on the total phenolic (TPC) and total flavonoid (TFC) contents, as well as the DPPH free radical scavenging activity recovered from the OPLs. The optimal UAE conditions were determined to be 0.5 h at 25 °C using 4:1 methanol–water and 1:50 solid–liquid ratio, producing OPL extracts with TPC and TFC at 335.30 and 60.67 milligrams quercetin equivalents per gram of extract (mg QCE/g extract), respectively, and DPPH free radical scavenging activity at 94.06%. The phenolics present in OPLs were optimally hydrolysed using 6 M hydrochloric acid with an incubation period of 45 min at 95 °C with TPC, TFC, and DPPH free radical scavenging activity at 126.33 milligrams gallic acid equivalents per gram of extract (mg GAE/g extract), 36.08 mg QCE/g, and 54.88%, respectively. Moreover, acid hydrolysis managed to optimally recover the total apigenin content (TAC), total luteolin content (TLC), and total flavonoid C-glycoside content (TFCGC) with values of 79.12 micrograms vitexin equivalents per milligram of extract (µg VE/mg extract), 20.97 micrograms orientin equivalents per milligram of extract (µg OE/mg extract), and 100.09 µg/mg, respectively. Additionally, there were significant correlations between the polyphenolic compounds, flavonoid C-glycosides, and antioxidant activity for all parameters based on the Pearson correlation analysis. This indicates that OPLs have potential as a natural source of phenolic compounds, especially flavonoid C-glycosides, with beneficial free radical scavenging activity that can be incorporated in food and pharmaceutical products.

Introduction: Tooth crowding can cause complaints if not treated early — this condition resulting in aesthetic disorders, and also masticatory and speech function disruption. The study was aimed to determine the predisposing factors of tooth crowding in the mixed dentition period by the tooth size and dental arch width. Methods: Research type was random cross-sectional. The sample was as much as 29 children with mandibular casting; then the mandibular model cast of these 6 – 9-years old children were divided into two groups according to the crowding condition in the mandibular anterior region, and the measurement was performed afterwards. Space available category was (A/A1), mesiodistal width of mandibular incisor (B/B1), total arch length (C/C1), intercanine width (D/D1), first primary intermolar width (E/E1), second primary intermolar width (F/F1), first permanent intermolar width (G/G1), interalveolar width (H/H1). Result: The results of the t-test showed significant differences (p < 0.05) in the available space for 4 incisors, where the space was larger in the non-crowded group with a difference of 2.22 mm and the mesiodistal sizes of these 4 incisors was larger in the crowded teeth group, with the difference of 1.8 mm. The results of the Pearson correlation coefficient showed a positive relationship to several measurements, namely D to C1, E to D1 and H to B1, C1, D1, F1 and G1, with the t-value > 3 and the r-value was closer to 1, which showed a correlation with strong closeness degree (r > 0.61). Conclusion: Predisposing factors of tooth crowding in the mixed dentition period were the first intercanine width (D), first primary intermolar width (E), and alveolar arch width (H).Keywords: Tooth crowding, arch dimension, mixed dentition period.

The biodiversity of the invertebrate community in the soil is greatly influenced by the presence of earthworms, which are also influenced by variations in the physicochemical and biological characteristics of the soil as well as the climate and the entire ecosystem that surrounds it. Biodiversity under an olive tree growing in a cold semi-arid climate with specific agricultural practices is the subject of this study, while highlighting the particular effect of earthworms on invertebrates collected by naked eye and by the Berlese extractor from a soil volume of 30cm3, in ten sites under the adjacent periphery of olive trees randomly designated from an orchard of 45 years old in Ain Touta region in eastern Algeria in spring period of 2020 years. A large variability in the diversity and evenness indexes is recorded between the study sites. It reached a value of H'= 1.78 and E = 0.85 at site where there is a greatest abundance of earthworms. The dominance index is between C=0 and C= 0.12. The results show a greater number of earthworm with an average of (130.00 I/m2±69.10), and average biomass of (83.36 g/m2± 53.31). The percentage of juvenile is higher than adult worms. Pearson correlation matrix reveals a strong negative effect of adult worms on Acari with -0.90, then on the Carabids with -0.74. The principal component analysis allowed a finding of the significant effect of adult, the abundance worms and their biomass on Acari, Carabids and small Dipteran larvae.

Butyrolactone I (BLI) can be used to maintain meiosis blocked during transport of oocytes to the laboratory, aiming to maintain their quality and competence. This work evaluated the effect of BLI during transport of bovine oocytes on the cortical granules (CG) distribution, and fertilization. Meiotic block culture was in basic medium (TCM-199 with 0.2 mM pyruvate, 25 mM sodium bicarbonate, and 75 mg mL-1 gentamicin) with 10 μLM BLI (B10) or 100 (AM BLI + 0.3% BSA (B100). During meiotic block, oocytes were cultured in cryogenic vials (15/vial) containing 60 μLL of medium recovered with mineral oil, packed in a portable incubator (Thawing Unit MT 35/42, Minitub) at 38.5°C during the first 5 h, and then transferred to a incubator at 38.5°C and 5% CO2 in air for the remaining 19 h. Then, they were matured at 38.5°C and 5% CO2 in basic medium supplemented with 0.6% BSA and hormones (maturation medium, MM) for 20 h. As controls, a group of oocytes was matured in MM during 24 h, without prior meiotic block. Control oocytes were cultured at 38.5°C and 5% CO2 (control 1, C1) or in the same portable incubator conditions in which the blocked oocytes were cultured (C2). A group of oocytes was fixed immediately after follicular aspiration (C0). At the end of cultures, a group of oocytes (n = 853) were stained with 1 μg mL-1 Lens culinaris (FITC-LCA) and assessed for the distribution of CG (arrangement in clusters = immature; peripheral = mature). The remaining oocytes (n = 563) were fertilized for 18 h, and zygotes were stained with 10 μg mL-1 Hoechst 33342 and assessed for sperm penetration and pronuclear formation. Oocytes with 2 pronuclei (2PN) were considered to present normal fertilization, and oocytes with >2PN were considered to be polyspermic. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey’s test, and correlation between CG positioning and pronuclear formation was analyzed with the Pearson correlation test. After meiotic block, the proportion of immature CG were higher (P < 0.05) in B100 (90.7%) and C0 (88.2%) than in B10 (69.0%). After maturation, mature CG rates in C2 (61.7%) were similar to B10 (52.3%) and B100 (72.9%), but only B100 was similar to C1 (83.6%). Irrespective of the presence or absence of BLI, culture of oocytes in the portable incubator adversely affected the normal pronuclear formation rates, which were higher (P < 0.05) in C1 (78.9%) than in C2 (56.8%), B10 (56.0%), and B100 (51.8%). The incidence of >2PN was higher (P < 0.05) in B10 (5.9%) than in C1, C2, and B100 (0.0, 1.4, and 0.0%, respectively). There was a fine correlation between mature CG and normal pronuclear formation (R = 0.5; P < 0.05). We conclude that (1) CG migration is reversibly blocked by BLI at a concentration of 100 μLM during transport; (2) oocyte transport in the portable incubator, but not BLI itself, adversely affects the normal pronuclear formation; and (3) CG maturation is essential for normal pronuclear formation. Abstract A heavy rainfall event over a 2-h period on 8 July 2013 caused significant flash flooding in the city of Toronto and produced 126 mm of rain accumulation at a gauge located near the Toronto Pearson International Airport. This paper evaluates the quantitative precipitation estimates from the nearby King City C-band dual-polarized radar (WKR). Horizontal reflectivity Z and differential reflectivity ZDR were corrected for attenuation using a modified ZPHI rain profiling algorithm, and rain rates R were calculated from R(Z) and R(Z, ZDR) algorithms. Specific differential phase KDP was used to compute rain rates from three R(KDP) algorithms, one modified to use positive and negative KDP, and an R(KDP, ZDR) algorithm. Additionally, specific attenuation at horizontal polarization A was used to calculate rates from the R(A) algorithm. High-temporal-resolution rain gauge data at 44 locations measured the surface rainfall every 5 min and produced total rainfall accumulations over the affected area. The nearby NEXRAD S-band dual-polarized radar at Buffalo, New York, provided rain-rate and storm accumulation estimates from R(Z) and S-band dual-polarimetric algorithm. These two datasets were used as references to evaluate the C-band estimates. Significant radome attenuation at WKR overshadowed the attenuation correction techniques and resulted in poor rainfall estimates from the R(Z) and R(Z, ZDR) algorithms. Rainfall estimation from the Brandes et al. R(KDP) and R(A) algorithms were superior to the other methods, and the derived storm total accumulation gave biases of 2.1 and −6.1 mm, respectively, with correlations of 0.94. The C-band estimates from the Brandes et al. R(KDP) and R(A) algorithms were comparable to the NEXRAD S-band estimates.

The dispersion of small aerosols in a concert hall is experimentally studied for estimating the risk of infection with SARS-CoV-2 during a concert. A mannequin was modified to emit an air stream containing aerosols and CO2. The aerosols have a size distribution with a peak diameter (δ) close to 0.3 µm and a horizontal initial particle velocity (vp,x) of 2.4 m/s. The CO2-concentration (c) emitted simultaneously is 7500 ppm. It is investigated, if the spatial dissipation of aerosols and CO2 can be correlated. This would allow the use of technically easier CO2 measurements to monitor compliance with aerosol concentration limits. Both aerosol and CO2 concentrations are mapped by different sensors placed around the mannequin. As a result, no significant enrichment of aerosols and CO2 was obtained outside a radius of 1.5 m when the fresh air ventilation in the concert hall has a steady vertical flow with a velocity of vg,z=0.05 m/s and the installed ventilation system was operating at an air change rate per hour (ACH) of 3, corresponding to an air exchange rate of 51,000 m3/h. A Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.77 was obtained for CO2 and aerosol concentrations measured simultaneously at different positions within the concert hall.

Response surface methodology (RSM) with a Box–Behnken design (BBD) was used to optimize the extraction of bioactive compounds from Ephedra fragilis. The results suggested that extraction with 61.93% ethanol at 44.43 °C for 15.84 h was the best solution for this combination of variables. The crude ethanol extract (CEE) obtained under optimum extraction conditions was sequentially fractionated with solvents of increasing polarity. The content of total phenolic (TP) and total flavonoid (TF) as well as the antioxidant and antiglycation activities were measured. The phytochemical fingerprint profile of the fraction with the highest activity was characterized by using RP-HPLC. The ethyl acetate fraction (EAF) had the highest TP and TF contents and exhibited the most potent antioxidant and antiglycation activities. The Pearson correlation analysis results showed that TP and TF contents were highly significantly correlated with the antioxidant and antiglycation activities. Totally, six compounds were identified in the EAF of E. fragilis, including four phenolic acids and two flavonoids. Additionally, molecular docking analysis also showed the possible connection between identified bioactive compounds and their mechanisms of action. Our results suggest new evidence on the antioxidant and antiglycation activities of E. fragilis bioactive compounds that may be applied in the treatment and prevention of aging and glycation-associated complications.

The new quaternary phases Eu5Zn2As5O and Eu5Cd2As5O have been synthesized by metal flux reactions and their structures have been established through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both compounds crystallize in the centrosymmetric space group Cmcm (No. 63, Z = 4; Pearson symbol oC52), with unit cell parameters a = 4.3457(11) Å, b = 20.897(5) Å, c = 13.571(3) Å; and a = 4.4597(9) Å, b = 21.112(4) Å, c = 13.848(3) Å, for Eu5Zn2As5O and Eu5Cd2As5O, respectively. The crystal structures include one-dimensional double-strands of corner-shared MAs4 tetrahedra (M = Zn, Cd) and As–As bonds that connect the tetrahedra to form pentagonal channels. Four of the five Eu atoms fill the space between the pentagonal channels and one Eu atom is contained within the channels. An isolated oxide anion O2– is located in a tetrahedral hole formed by four Eu cations. Applying the valence rules and the Zintl concept to rationalize the chemical bonding in Eu5M2As5O (M = Zn, Cd) reveals that the valence electrons can be counted as follows: 5 × [Eu2+] + 2 × [M2+] + 3 × [As3–] + 2 × [As2–] + O2–, which suggests an electron-deficient configuration. The presumed h+ hole is confirmed by electronic band structure calculations, where a fully optimized bonding will be attained if an additional valence electron is added to move the Fermi level up to a narrow band gap (Eu5Zn2As5O) or pseudo-gap (Eu5Cd2As5O). In order to achieve such a formal charge balance, and hence, narrow-gap semiconducting behavior in Eu5M2As5O (M = Zn, Cd), europium is theorized to be in a mixed-valent Eu2+/ Eu3+ state.

Oxygen ions were implanted into (100) oriented single crystal Si at energies in the range of 0.6 to 2 MeV at normal and oblique (60°) incidences. Oxygen concentration profiles were measured using the 16O(d, α)14N nuclear reaction for 900 keV deuterons. The experimentally measured oxygen distributions were subsequently fitted to the theoretical profiles calculated assuming the Pearson VI distribution. The distribution moments (Rp, ΔRp, ΔR⊥ skewness, and kurtosis) were deduced as the best fit parameters and compared to the computer simulation results (TRIM 87 and PRAL). Whatever the calculation method, the measured Rp and ΔRp values are close to those predicted by the theory. Deeply buried SiO2 layers were formed using a single step implantation and annealing process. A dose of 1.8 × 1018/cm2 of 2 MeV O+ was implanted into the Si substrate maintained at a temperature of 550 °C. The implanted samples were characterized using the Rutherford backscattering (RBS)/channeling technique and cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy (XTEM). The implanted samples were subsequently annealed at 1350 °C for 4 h in an Ar ambient. The annealing process results in creating a continuous SiO2 layer, 0.4 μm thick below a 1.6 μm thick top single crystal silicon overlayer. The buried SiO2 layer contains the well-known faceted Si inclusions. The density of dislocations within the top Si layer remains lower than the XTEM detection limit of 107/cm2. Between the Si overlayer and the buried SiO2 a layer of faceted longitudinal SiO2 precipitates is present. A localized dislocation network links the precipitates to the buried SiO2 layer.

Accurate food and nutrient intake assessment is essential for investigating diet–disease relationships. In the present study, food and nutrient intake assessment among European adolescents using 24 h recalls (mean of two recalls) and a FFQ (separately and the combination of both) were evaluated using concentration biomarkers. Biomarkers included were vitamin C, β-carotene, DHA+EPA, vitamin B12 (cobalamin and holo-transcobalamin) and folate (erythrocyte folate and plasma folate). For the evaluation of the food intake assessment 390 adolescents were included, while 697 were included for the nutrient intake assessment evaluation. Spearman rank and Pearson correlations, and validity coefficients, which are correlations between intake estimated and habitual true intake, were calculated. Correlations were higher between frequency of food consumption (from the FFQ) and concentration biomarkers than between mean food intake (from the recalls) and concentration biomarkers, especially for DHA+EPA (r 0·35 v. r 0·27). Most correlations were higher among girls than boys. For boys, the highest validity coefficients were found for frequency of fruit consumption (0·88) and for DHA+EPA biomarker (0·71). In girls, the highest validity coefficients were found for fruit consumption frequency (0·76), vegetable consumption frequency (0·74), mean fruit intake (0·90) and DHA+EPA biomarker (0·69). After exclusion of underreporters, correlations slightly improved. Correlations between usual food intakes, adjusted for food consumption frequency, and concentration biomarkers were higher than correlations between mean food intakes and concentration biomarkers. In conclusion, two non-consecutive 24 h recalls in combination with a FFQ seem to be appropriate to rank subjects according to their usual food intake.

Las empresas agrícolas del cantón Latacunga enfrentan variaciones constantes en su economía a causa de bajos índices de liquidez, crédito y rentabilidad, siendo los principales motivos de la mala gestión de activos. El objetivo de la investigación es analizar la eficiencia y los riesgos financieros en las empresas agrícolas del cantón Latacunga. Se analizó dos tipos de riesgos financieros, que se ven afectadas las organizaciones como el riesgo de liquidez y el riesgo decrédito adicional obedeciendo al nivel correlaciinal de orden cuantitativo. Como resultado principal, la empresa ASVEGETAL S.A tuvo el mejor nivel de liquidez para cubrir sus obligaciones a corto plazo, al contrario de las que necesitan de una gestión financiera. Del mismo modo, se estableció que la empresa LEALPAVE S.A con mayores deficiencias en lo que respecta al riesgo de crédito; por último, se identificó la empresa QUINOA COTOPAXI S.A. que tuvo mejor desempeño y rendimiento. A área foliar possui correlação entre as atividades fotossintéticas e de transpirações das espécies vegetais, uma vez que esta reflete a capacidade da planta em interceptar as radiações e efetuar as trocas gasosas. Dessa forma, torna-se um importante indicativo da produtividade das culturas agrícolas. Tendo em vista a escassez de trabalhos sobre a estimativa da área foliar do abacaxizeiro, torna-se objetivo deste trabalho identificar equações para a determinação da área foliar do abacaxizeiro cv Vitória utilizando relações alométricas das plantas. Foram utilizadas 120 plantas de abacaxizeiro, coletadas aleatoriamente no momento da indução floral artificial, que ocorreu aos 270 dias após o plantio. Foram mensurados altura (h) e número de folhas (NF), comprimento (C) e largura (L) da folha "D" e o produto destas duas últimas variáveis (CxL). Os dados foram submetidos à análise de regressão e selecionou-se a equação que melhor se ajustou às correlações. A validação dos modelos utilizou 60 novas plantas, e os valores obtidos foram avaliados por meio do coeficiente de determinação (R²), correlação de Pearson (r), erro médio (EA), erro médio absoluto (ERA) e raiz do quadrado médio do erro (RQME). O modelo que utilizou o produto das dimensões lineares (AF=19,298*(CxL)-559,9*) mostrou-se o mais adequado para a estimativa da área foliar do abacaxizeiro, devido aos baixos erros encontrados, alta correlação e fácil mensuração.

Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar a relação entre o sentimento de comunidade e a pobreza rural em três municípios, sendo um do Nordeste, um do Norte e outro do Sul do Brasil. A pesquisa, de caráter quantitativo, contou com a participação de 1.113 sujeitos, que responderam a questionários compostos por um instrumento de Pobreza Multidimensional e pelo Índice de Sentimento de Comunidade. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas: Teste T, Anova, Teste de Correlação de Pearson e Estatísticas Descritivas. O sentimento de comunidade esteve presente de forma moderada/alta nos municípios P (Nordeste) e C (Sul) e de forma moderada/baixa no Município H (Norte). O fator Filiação do Sentimento de Comunidade, relacionado à vinculação das pessoas com a comunidade e ao sentimento de fazer parte do grupo, apresentou as maiores médias nos três municípios e na amostra geral, seguido pelo fator Ligações Emocionais Compartilhadas. Na análise das dimensões presentes na pobreza multidimensional, as três dimensões Trabalho/Renda, Subjetiva e Saúde foram as que apresentaram correlação significativa e negativa com o sentimento de comunidade. Na amostra geral, os seus resultados apontam para uma correlação negativa entre sentimento de comunidade e pobreza multidimensional. Diante dessa constatação, ao analisar o sentimento de comunidade, é importante incorporar esses dimensões da pobreza multidimensional, a fim de compreender melhor o impacto da pobreza na vida das pessoas.
