We review how quark models are able to describe the phenomenology of the charm meson sector. The spectroscopy and decays of charmonium and open charm mesons are described in a particular quark model and compared with the data and the results of other existing models in the literature. A quite reasonable global description of the heavy meson spectra is reached. A new assignment of the ψ(4415) resonance as a 3D state leaving aside the 4S state to the X(4360) is tested through the analysis of the resonance structure in e+e- exclusive reactions around the ψ(4415) energy region. We make tentative assignments of some of the XYZ mesons. To elucidate the structure of the 1+cs states, i.e., Ds1(2460) and Ds1(2536), we study the strong decay properties of the Ds1(2536) meson. We also perform a calculation of the branching fractions for the semileptonic decays of B and Bs mesons into final states containing orbitally excited charmed and charmed-strange mesons, which have become a very important source of information about the structure of heavy mesons. Analysis of the nonleptonic B-meson decays into D(*)DsJ are also included.

Semileptonic B(Bs, Bc) decays are investigated systematically in the light-cone QCD sum rules. Special emphasis is put on the LCSR calculation on weak form factors with an adequate chiral current correlator, which turns out to be particularly effective to control the pollution by higher twist components of spectator mesons. The result for each channel depends on the distribution amplitude of the the producing meson. The leading twist distribution amplitudes of the related heavy mesons and charmonium are worked out by a model approach in the reasonable way. A practical scenario is suggested to understand the behavior of weak form factors in the whole kinematically accessible ranges. The decay widths and branching ratios are estimated for several B(Bc) decay modes of current interest.

A systematic calculation for the transition form factors of heavy to light mesons (B, Bs, D, Ds→ π, K, η, ρ, K*, ω, ϕ) is carried out by using light-cone sum rules in the framework of heavy quark effective field theory. The heavy quark symmetry at the leading order of 1/mQexpansion enables us to reduce the independent wave functions and establish interesting relations among form factors. Some relations hold for the whole region of momentum transfer. The meson distribution amplitudes up to twist-4 including the contributions from higher conformal spin partial waves and light meson mass corrections are considered. The CKM matrix elements |Vub|, |Vcs| and |Vcd| are extracted from some relatively well-measured decay channels. A detailed prediction for the branching ratios of heavy to light meson decays is then presented. The resulting predictions for the semileptonic and radiative decay rates of heavy to light mesons (B, Bs, D, Ds→ π, K, η, ρ, K*, ω, ϕ) are found to be compatible with the current experimental data and can be tested by more precise experiments at B-factory, LHCb, BEPCII and CLEOc.

The rare decays [Formula: see text] are important to probe the flavor sector of the standard model and to search new physics beyond the SM. Unlike pseudoscalar [Formula: see text] meson, the leptonic decays of vector [Formula: see text] mesons are not chirally suppressed which compensates for their short lifetimes, and results in significant branching ratios. In this paper, we estimate the branching ratios of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text] rare decays in [Formula: see text] model which is an extension of the SM with an extra [Formula: see text] gauge symmetry. We find that the branching ratios are increased from their corresponding standard model values and vary with the mass of [Formula: see text] boson. The lower the mass of [Formula: see text] boson, the higher is the branching ratio.

The b and c quarks compete with each other in the decays of the Bc-meson. We show how one can obtain reliable signals of c→s decay in the Bc system in order to calculate the relative strengths of the two types of decays. This, we argue, can be done by considering the decay [Formula: see text], followed by semileptonic decays of the Bs. We suggest looking for like-sign dileptons together with a Ds at the BTeV or LHC-B experiments, and show that such signals can be made background-free by suitable event selection.

The charmless bottom meson decays are systematically investigated based on an approximate six-quark operator effective Hamiltonian from perturbative QCD. It is shown that within this framework the naive QCD factorization method provides a simple way to evaluate the hadronic matrix elements of two-body mesonic decays. The singularities caused by on mass-shell quark propagator and gluon exchanging interaction are appropriately treated. Such a simple framework allows us to make theoretical predictions for the decay amplitudes with reasonable input parameters. The resulting theoretical predictions for all the branching ratios and CP asymmetries in the charmless B0, B+, Bs → ππ, πK, KK decays are found to be consistent with the current experimental data except for a few decay modes. The observed large branching ratio in B→π0π0 decay remains a puzzle though the predicted branching ratio may be significantly improved by considering the large vertex corrections in the effective Wilson coefficients. More precise measurements of charmless bottom meson decays, especially on CP violations in B → KK and Bs → ππ, πK, KK decay modes, will provide a useful test and guide us to a better understanding on perturbative and nonperturbative QCD.

We report the status of an ongoing lattice-QCD calculation of form factors for exclusive semileptonic decays of B mesons with both charged currents (B → πlv, Bs → Klv) and neutral currents (B → πl+l-, B → Kl+l-). The results are important for constraining or revealing physics beyond the Standard Model. This work uses MILC’s (2+1 + 1)-flavor ensembles with the HISQ action for the sea and light valence quarks and the clover action in the Fermilab interpretation for the b quark. Simulations are carried out at three lattice spacings down to 0.088 fm, with both physical and unphysical sea-quark masses. We present preliminary results for correlation-function fits.

We review the perturbative QCD approach study of hadronic B decays. Utilizing the constrained parameters in these well measured decay channels, we study most of the possible charmless Bs → PP, PV and VV decay channels in the perturbative QCD approach. In addition to the branching ratios and CP asymmetries, we also give predictions to the polarization fractions of the vector meson final states. The size of SU (3) breaking effect is also discussed. These predictions can be tested by the future LHCb experiment.

We use experimental information on D−→K*0ρ− and B→ψ+K*, coupled with flavor independence of QCD, and with vector meson dominance, to show that long distance (LD) contributions to B→ρ+γ, especially to B−→ρ−+γ, are potentially very serious. Estimates based on the annihilation graph are shown to lead to similar conclusions. We emphasize that LD contributions can be appreciably different in B−→ρ−+γ and B0→ρ0(ω)+γ. All radiative decays of B, Bs are shown to be governed essentially by two LD and two short distance (SD) hadronic entities. Despite the presence of considerable LD contributions, we show how separate measurements of B−→ρ−+γ, B0→ρ0(ω)+γ, along with B→K*+γ, can be used for a systematic extraction of Vtd. Measurements of Bs→ɸ+γ and K*0+γ could also provide very useful consistency checks.

We present a search for physics beyond the standard model (SM) through a measurement of the violation of the charge-parity (CP) symmetry in two decays of the Bs meson using data collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF) in proton-antiproton collisions at the center-of-mass energy of 1.96 Tev. We exploit the decays Bs->Jpsi (->mu mu) phi(-> KK) and Bs -> phi(-> KK) phi(-> KK), for which the SM accurately predicts very small or vanishing CP violation; both decay modes are very sensitive to new sources of CP violation expected in a broad class of SM extensions. We analyze the time-dependent CP asymmetry of the Bs->Jpsi phi decays collected in the full CDF Run II dataset for providing the final measurement of the Bs-antiBs mixing phase, 2*betas, and we present the first measurement of CP violation in Bs -> Phi Phi decays, through the determination of two time-integrated CP asymmetries, Av and Au, using an original method developed in this work. We find: -0.06< betas<0.30 at the 68% confidence level; Av=(-12.0 +/-6.4(stat) +/- 1.6(syst))%; and Au=(-0.7 +/-6.4(stat) +/- 1.8(syst))%. In addition, we provide measurements of the decay width difference between the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the Bs meson, DeltaGamma_s=0.068 +/- 0.026(stat) +/- 0.009(syst) ps^{-1}; and of their mean lifetime, tau_s=1.528 +/- 0.019(stat) +/- 0.009(syst) ps. All results are among the most precise determinations from a single experiment and exhibit an excellent agreement with the SM predictions. They have been published in two letters in Physical Review.

Les études des propriétés et du mécanisme de la production du charmonium ont débuté avec la découverte du méson J/ψ. Depuis plus de 40 ans, le mécanisme de production de charmonium n'est toujours pas clair. Les états de charmonium sont copieusement produits dans les collisionneurs hadroniques, ce qui permet d'étudier systématiquement leurs paramètres de résonance, leur production et leurs désintégrations. En dépit des taux de production élevés, de nombreux états de charmonium sont peu étudiés suite aux difficultés de leur reconstruction avec le bruit de fond important. L’expérience LHCb offre une opportunité unique d’étudier les états S et P de charmonium en utilisant leurs désintégrations vers des hadrons, et en particulier la production des états ηc et χc. Selon le formalisme de la QCD non relativiste (NRQCD), les éléments de matrice décrivant l’hadronisation des états S (ou P) du charmonium sont liés. Par conséquent, les mesures LHCb fournissent les nouveaux tests rigoureux de NRQCD. Dans le cadre de la thèse, la première mesure de la section efficace de production de l’état ηc(1S) à √s=13 TeV et la mesure la plus précise de la masse sont effectués, avec la désintégration de l'état ηc(1S) vers proton et antiproton. De plus, la production des états χc et ηc(2S) dans les désintégrations des hadrons b est étudiée en utilisant leurs désintégrations vers φφ. Studies of charmonium properties and production mechanism started with the discovery of J/ψ meson. Since more than 40 years the charmonium production mechanism is still not entirely understood. Following the era of investigations at e⁺e⁻ machines, nowadays, charmonium states are copiously produced at hadron colliders, that allows systematic studies of their resonance parameters, production observables and decays. Despite large production rates, many charmonium states are barely studied due to the complications of their reconstruction against a large background level. The LHCb experiment provides a unique opportunity to study S-wave and P-wave charmonium states using their decays to hadrons. This allows measuring production observables of ηc and χc charmonium states. According to the theoretical formalism of Non-Relativistic QCD (NRQCD), the production observables of the same wave charmonium states are linked. Hence, the LHCb measurements provide a series of stringent tests of NRQCD. In the framework of this thesis, the first measurement of the ηc(1S) differential production cross-section at √s=13 TeV and the most precise to date single mass measurement are performed, where the ηc(1S)$ state is reconstructed via its decay to proton and antiproton. In addition, the production of the χc and ηc(2S) states in b-hadron decays is studied using decays to φφ. The obtained results are confronted with existing theory predictions. The original phenomenological analysis concludes that the description of charmonium prompt production and production in inclusive b-hadron decays in an entire range of transverse momentum remains a challenge

We present a study of the charmless Bs to phiphi decay performed with the CDFII detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Charmless Bs meson decays currently can be studied only at the Tevatron and represent a field still to be fully explored that offers additional ways to test our present theoretical understanding. The Bs to phiphi belongs to a particular class of these decays: the Bs meson decays into a pair of vector particle and the final state is self-conjugate. It can be used to measure the Bs decay width difference (Delta Gamma_s), CKM studies, and tests of decay polarization predictions.

This thesis presents a measurement of the effective B0s decay width, ΓFS, from a single exponential fit to the flavour-specific decay channel B0s → D-s π +. This measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 340 pb-1 recorded by LHCb in 2011 at a center of mass energy of 7TeV. The dataset is divided into two exclusive selections. B0s → D-s (( ϕ →K-K+) π-)π + only has a significant background contribution arising from combinatorial background, and the modelling of this is determined entirely by the data. B0s → D-s ((K-K* (892)0 → K+ π-))π + has a larger contribution from combinatoric and mis-identified background and provides an alternative measurement. A simultaneous fit for the effective B0s decay width is performed to both the datasets leading to the result: ΓFS = 0:668 ± 0:017 ± 0:031 ps-1 The result is then combined with information from the LHCb B0s → J/ψØ analysis leading to an improved measurement of the average B0 s decay width: Γs = 0:666 ± 0:010 ± 0:031 ps-1

Le travail présenté a été accompli dans le cadre de l'expérience LHCb. La thèse comporte deux parties : le développement et la mise en route du Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) et l'étude des performances attendues pour la mesure de la désintégration radiative Bs→φγ. Une surveillance en ligne du bruit de fond lié à l’accélérateur est indispensable pour la sécurité du détecteur et pour collecter des données de bonne qualité pour la physique. La technologie dite Métal Foil Detector a été choisie pour la surveillance en ligne de la radiation. Son temps de réponse est rapide, elle est sensible dans la plage de radiation correspondant aux conditions nominales de fonctionnement pour LHCb, elle est robuste et la quantité de matière qu'elle ajoute reste modérée. Le système de lecture et son intégration dans l’architecture de LHC ont été menés à bien. Les résultats obtenus avec le RMS sont en accord avec ceux d'autres systèmes de mesure de bruit de fond et ont montré que le RMS était sensible aux collisions pp et capable de détecter des augmentations inattendues dans le taux de radiation. La deuxième partie de la thèse est consacrée à l’étude des performances attendues pour la mesure de la désintégration radiative Bs→φγ. L'optimisation des critères de sélection a été effectuée avec une simulation Monte-Carlo complète du détecteur. La simulation des événements de signal a été complétée par celle des principaux bruits de fond. Dans les conditions nominales de fonctionnement, on attend pour un an environ 9000 candidats Bs→φγ enregistrés, reconstruits et sélectionnés. Le niveau de bruit de fond attendu est estimé à B/S < 2. 9@90% CL
The work presented has been accomplished in the framework of the LHCb experiment. The thesis is divided into two parts: development and commissioning of the Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) and study of the expected performances for the measurement of the radiative decay Bs→φγ. The online monitoring of the background related to the accelerator is mandatory for the safety of the detector and for high quality data taking. The Metal Foil Detector technology was chosen for the radiation online monitoring. It is characterized by a fast time response and is sensitive to irradiation range corresponding to the conditions expected for nominal LHCb operation. It is robust and yields a moderate amount of material. The readout system and its integration in the LHC architecture have been realized. The results obtained with the RMS are in agreement with those from other systems that measure accelerator backgrounds. It has been shown that the RMS is sensitive to the pp collisions and is able to detect unexpected increase in the radiation rate. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to the study of the expected performances for the measurement of the radiative decay Bs→φγ. The selection criteria optimization has been realized with a full Monte Carlo simulation of the detector. The signal events simulation has been complemented by the detailed background studies. In nominal operation conditions, about 9000 signal events are expected to be recorded, reconstructed and selected. The background level is estimated to be B/S < 2. 9@90% CL

Cette thèse présente une étude des désintégrations radiatives des mésons B0 et Bs, produits lors des collisions de protons du Grand Collisionneur de Hadrons (LHC), au Laboratoire Européen de Physique des Particules (CERN),vers des états orbitallement excités. Elle s’inscrit dans le contexte de recherche indirecte de physique au-delà du Modèle Standard de la Physique des Particules. Les données récoltées par le détecteur LHCb pendant le Run 1(2011-2012) et le Run 2 (2015-2018) du LHC, correspondant à une luminosité intégrée de 8.7 fb−1, sont utilisées pour l’analyse. Une sélection optimisée des états finals comprenant deux traces chargées et un photon est mise en place, permettant de regrouper un très grand échantillon de désintégrations radiatives de hadrons beaux. Un modèle est ajusté à la masse invariante du système, permettant de soustraire statistiquement les différentes contributions de bruit de fond polluant les données.Une première analyse en amplitude est ensuite mise en place pour une étude détaillée de la structure hadronique dans le mode Bs → K+K−γ. Elle permet la première observation du mode Bs → f2j (1525)γ avec une mesure de rapport d’embranchement normalisé à celui du mode dominant Bs → φγ:B(Bs → f2j γ) = (24.1 ± 0.9 (stat) +1.6 (syst) ± 0.6 (br)) × 10−2B(Bs → φγ)−0.8C’est également le second mode de désintégration radiative du méson Bs jamais observé. Une analyse similaire est faite pour le mode B0 → K±π∓γ, et permet une mesure préliminaire du rapport d’embranchement du mode B0 → K2∗(1430)γ, normalisé à celui du mode dominant B0 → K∗0γ:(B0 K∗0(1430)γ)B(B0 → K∗0(892)γ) = (36.4 ± 0.4 (stat) ± 1.3(BR))%Une étude détaillée des erreurs systématiques affectant la mesure reste néanmoins nécessaire pour connaitre sa compétitivité vis-à-vis des mesures actuelles. Utilisant une stratégie similaire, une sélection préliminaire des modes B K0hhγ est aussi mise en place pour estimer la statistique disponible à LHCb pour ces modes qui permettraient de mesurer la polarisation du photon dans la transition b sγ. This document presents studies of radiative decays of B0 and Bs mesons to orbitally excited states, produced in proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research). It takes place in the context of the search for new physics processes beyond the standard model of particle physics. The work is based on the data collected at the LHCb experiment during the Run 1(2011-2012) and the Run 2 (2015-2018) of the LHC, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 8.7 fb−1. First, an optimised selection of the final states comprising of two charged tracks and a high energy photon is put in place, regrouping a large samples of B hadron radiative decays. Then, a mass model is fit to the data distribution, allowing to statistically subtract the background contributions in the data set.A first amplitude analysis is then developed to study the hadronic structure in the Bs → K+K−γ decay mode. Resulting from this analysis is the first observation of the Bs → f2j (1525)γ mode together with a relative branching ratio measurement:B(Bs → f2j γ) = (24.1 ± 0.9 (stat) +1.6 (syst) ± 0.6 (br)) × 10−2B(Bs → φγ) −0.8It is the second radiative decay mode observed for the Bs meson. A similar analysis is performed on the B0 → K±π∓γ mode, allowing a preliminary measurement of the relative branching ratio of B0 → K2∗(1430)γ:(B0 K∗0(1430)γ)B(B0 → K∗0(892)γ) = (36.4 ± 0.4 (stat) ± 1.3(BR))%However, a detailed systematics study is needed to assess its competitivity with previous measurements of this decay mode. Making use of a similar selection strategy, a preliminary study of B K0hhγ modes is also set up during the thesis to estimate the available statistics for these modes at LHCb, which are particularly interesting to measure the photon polarisation in the b sγ transition. This work will be the starting point of an analysis comprising the future data that will be collected during the Run 3 of the LHC
