In this paper, we provide a new technique for analyzing the nonstationary Erlang loss queueing model with abandonment. Our method uniquely combines the use of the functional Kolmogorov forward equations with the well-known Gram-Charlier series expansion from the statistics literature. Using the Gram-Charlier series expansion, we show that we can estimate salient performance measures of the loss queue such as the mean, variance, skewness, kurtosis, and blocking probability. Lastly, we provide numerical examples to illustrate the effectiveness of our approximations.

In this paper we research the process of magnetization of iron-containing coatings obtained on aluminum and titanium plasma electrolytic oxidation. It is shown that the formation of a remnant magnetic moment mainly determined by the magnetostatic interaction particles (phases). This interaction leads to a decrease of the blocking volume of particles (phases). Thus, a large number of superparamagnetic particles (phases) obtain stable magnetic moments and are involved in creating of the remnant magnetization of the sample.

This study introduces a method for measuring the blocking force of a shape memory polymer composite hinge to quantify the performance of a shape memory polymer composite hinge for space deployable structure applications. A detailed design of how to select heating elements for a self-deployable configuration is also suggested. The shape memory polymer composite hinge consists of two reverse carpenter shape memory polymer composite tapes that were made from carbon-epoxy fabric, shape memory polymer resin, and two heating elements. The heating elements were attached to the shape memory polymer composite tape using the composite manufacturing method, and they were used as the heating source in the deployment test. The blocking force and moment of the hinge were measured using a pulley–mass system setup to examine the mechanical performance of the hinge. During the test, the shape change was recorded with a camera to calculate the moment arms. While the blocking force was 7.21 N in the initial test, it decreased slightly with the working cycle and was 6.27 N in the repeated test. The maximum hinge moment was 0.47 N m in the repeated test. In addition, the results revealed that a pop-up phenomenon occurred at the middle period of deployment. These results confirm that the shape memory polymer composite hinge works well with heating elements and provide a guideline for performance evaluation of the shape memory polymer composite hinge.

Nuclear structure data plays an important role in nuclear physics studies and applications such as nuclear power generation. This article presents evaluations of a mean-field approach to describe two nuclear structure quantities namely the electric and magnetic moments. The Hartree-Fock-plus-pairing approach was employed with pairing correlations treated within the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) framework. The Skyrme SIII parametrization and seniority force are chosen to approximate the effective nucleon-nucleon and pairing interactions, respectively. Calculated results show that the self-consistent blocking procedure which takes into account time-reversal symmetry breaking is important to reproduce experimental magnetic moment

In this paper, we propose an enhanced file transfer mechanism for a communication framework (CM) for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Our previous file transfer method uses a basic non-blocking communication channel and thread for the CM (non-blocking method), but this method has a cost of adding additional bytes to each original file block. Therefore, it is not suitable for the transfer of large-sized files. Other existing file transfer methods use a separate channel to transfer large-sized files. However, the creation of a separate channel increases the total transmission delay as the transfer frequency increases. The proposed method uses a dedicated blocking communication channel in a separate thread (blocking method). The blocking method uses a separate channel and thread which are dedicated to transferring file blocks. As it creates the separate channel in advance before the file transfer task, the proposed method does not have an additional channel creation cost at the moment of the file transfer. Through file transfer experiments, the blocking method showed a shorter file transfer time than the non-blocking method, and the transmission delay was increased as the file size grew. By supporting both non-blocking and blocking methods, an application can flexibly select the desirable method according to its requirement. If the application requires the transfer of small-sized files infrequently, it can use the non-blocking method. If the application needs to transfer small-sized or large-sized files frequently, a good alternative is to use the blocking method.

Nanoclusters and nanocrystals of the room temperature magnetic spinel CuCr2S4 synthesized using a facile solution-based method were examined by magnetic resonance in a wide frequency range 9.6÷80 GHz and at temperatures down to 4.2 K. Decreasing of the resonance field and broadening of the resonance lines are found below ∼ 50 K for both the nanocluster and nanocube samples due to the freezing of magnetic moments of nanocubes and nanocrystalline particles constituting nanoclusters. Additional blocking temperature Tb≅300 K appears in nanoclusters due to the freezing of the magnetic moment of the entire cluster as a whole. Below this temperature, an additional low-field resonance line is found in the resonance spectra of nanoclusters at X-band.

Nanosized particles of AFe2O4(A = Mn, Co, Ni, or Zn) spinel ferrites were synthesized by coprecipitation from nonaqueous solutions using nitrate salts as starting reagents. The particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and magnetic measurements. Quasistatic magnetic measurements show superparamagnetic behavior with blocking temperature below room temperature for cobalt, nickel, and zinc spinel ferrite nanoparticles. Characteristic magnetic parameters of the particles including average magnetic moment of an individual nanoparticle and blocking temperature have been determined. The specific loss power which is released on the exposure of an ensemble of synthesized particles to a magnetic field is calculated and measured experimentally. It is shown that among all nanoferrites under study, the ZnFe2O4nanoparticles demonstrate the highest heating efficiency in AC magnetic fields. The key parameters responsible for the heating efficiency in AC magnetic field have been determined. The directions to enhance the SLP value have been outlined.

Transition-metal oxide nanoparticles are relevant for many applications in different areas where their superparamagnetic behavior and low blocking temperature are required. However, they have low magnetic moments, which does not favor their being turned into active actuators. Here, we report a systematical study, within the framework of the density functional theory, of the possibility of promoting a high-spin state in small late-transition-metal oxide nanoparticles through alloying. We investigated all possible nanoalloys An−xBxOm (A, B = Fe, Co, Ni; n = 2, 3, 4; 0≤x≤n) with different oxidation rates, m, up to saturation. We found that the higher the concentration of Fe, the higher the absolute stability of the oxidized nanoalloy, while the higher the Ni content, the less prone to oxidation. We demonstrate that combining the stronger tendency of Co and Ni toward parallel couplings with the larger spin polarization of Fe is particularly beneficial for certain nanoalloys in order to achieve a high total magnetic moment, and its robustness against oxidation. In particular, at high oxidation rates we found that certain FeCo oxidized nanoalloys outperform both their pure counterparts, and that alloying even promotes the reentrance of magnetism in certain cases at a critical oxygen rate, close to saturation, at which the pure oxidized counterparts exhibit quenched magnetic moments.

The purpose of this study was to identify the mechanical factors that are crucial to successful performance of blocking and body control for salto forward and kickout in the handspring and salto forward tucked vault. A 16-mm camera operating at 100 Hz was used to record the performances. The subjects were 51 male gymnasts participating in the 1988 Olympic Games. It was hypothesized that some mechanical factors identified in the model were significantly correlated with successful performance of blocking and body control for salto forward and kickout as rated by the judges. Significant correlations indicated that a large horizontal velocity at touchdown on horse is an important prerequisite for effective blocking and subsequent performance of postflight. The results also indicated that the body’s moment of inertia should be minimized by assuming the full tuck position just before or near the peak of flight, which maximizes the time and height available for executing the kickout in midair. The small angular speed of body rotation due to early kickout and the long-held extended body position as it travels a large horizontal distance are not only effective in the expression of artistic amplitude for virtuosity points but are also crucial for control in landing.

This study compared the techniques used by elite male gymnasts in performing blocking or pushoff against the horse and postflight in the handspring and salto forward tucked vault. Forty-one American gymnasts were compared with 51 Olympic gymnasts on the mechanical factors governing the blocking and body control for salto forward and kickout in postflight. A 16-mm high-speed camera recorded the performance of the gymnasts during the 1986 USA Gymnastics Championships and the 1988 Olympic Games. The results indicated that Olympic gymnasts assumed the tightest tuck position significantly nearer the peak of the parabolic path of CG and thus achieved significantly greater height of CG at the tightest tuck position during the somersault than did the U.S. gymnasts. The superiority of body control by the former after the tightest tuck to landing was evidenced by significantly longer time, larger horizontal and angular distances, greater average moment of inertia, and smaller angular velocity.

Mindfulness—present moment attention and awareness (Brown & Ryan, 2003)—is commonly proposed as a productive state of consciousness in the workplace. Unfortunately, being mindful at every moment of the workday is fairly uncommon. Research suggests that people engage in mind wandering—a lack of attention to and awareness of the present (Smallwood & Schooler, 2006)—for the majority of their day (in every task except making love; Killingsworth & Gilbert, 2010). Further, there is another state of consciousness called flow—an intense sense of concentration and control over activities—that has also been linked to workplace performance (Nakamura & Csikszentmihalyi, 2002). Interestingly, whereas mindfulness facilitates higher performance by being aware of external stimuli, flow enables higher performance by doing the opposite—blocking out external stimuli. These findings suggest that mindfulness is neither the most common psychological state nor the only productive psychological state for the workplace.

AbstractVariations in the magnetic pressure and flux blocking by starspots during the magnetic cycle of the cool semidetached component of an Algol binary may cause cyclic changes in the quadrupole moment and moment of inertia of the star which can cause alternate period changes. Since several different processes and timescales are involved, the orbital period changes may not correlate strongly with the indicators of magnetic activity. The structural changes in the semidetached component can also modulate the mass transfer rate. Sub-Keplerian velocities, supersonic turbulence, and high temperature regions in circumstellar material around the accreting star may all be a consequence of magnetic fields embedded in the flow. Models for the evolution of Algols which include the effects of angular momentum loss (AML) through a magnetized wind may have underestimated the AML rate by basing it on results from main sequence stars. Evolved stars appear to have higher AML rates, and there may be additional AML in a wind from the accretion disk.

This paper weakens the size and moment conditions needed for typical block bootstrap methods (i.e., the moving blocks, circular blocks, and stationary bootstraps) to be valid for the sample mean of Near-Epoch-Dependent (NED) functions of mixing processes; they are consistent under the weakest conditions that ensure the original NED process obeys a central limit theorem (CLT), established by De Jong (1997, Econometric Theory 13(3), 353–367). In doing so, this paper extends De Jong’s method of proof, a blocking argument, to hold with random and unequal block lengths. This paper also proves that bootstrapped partial sums satisfy a functional CLT (FCLT) under the same conditions.

In all games, connected with the ball, main attention of a player should be paid to a moving ball. This rule ignoring leads to often inaccurate ball hitting. Admittedly, players should be taught to observe the opponent. But at the same time direct observation is held to the definite limit. And during the moment of direct training and hit fulfillment main attention is paid to the ball and other environment is observed only with the help of peripheral vision. During the game young volleyball players lose many favorable moments only because they can’t choose the best ways of a hit in the combat with the opponent. During the playing technique explanation and study it is necessary to study thoroughly the basis of the technique, the sequence of the separate body parts movements, speed and their amplitude during different techniques fulfillment. These factors are the main for volleyball player’s actions effectiveness achievement. While the attacking hit fulfillment and blocking it is important to control the opponent during the technique fulfillment. That is why it is necessary to master the ability to observe the opponent’s movements all the time, till the hit on the ball, among young volleyball players.

AbstractMagnetic anisotropy values are obtained for [(Co_41Fe_39B_20)_ x (SiO_2)_100 – _ x /Bi_2Te_3]_47 heterostructures consisting of SiO_2 alternating layers, CoFeB nanoparticles distributed in them, and Bi_2Te_3 layers with ferromagnetic resonance and magnetometry. The heterostructures have anisotropy of ~10^6 erg/cm^3, which orients the magnetic moment in films plane. The films are not solid, but they disintegrate into CoFeB nanoparticles with an average diameter of 5 nm during deposition, which corresponds to the blocking magnetization temperature of ~30 K during their saturation magnetization of M _ S = 720 emu/cm^3. The relationship between anisotropy constant and thickness of the layers of the heterostructures is nonmonotonic due to competition between surface and bulk anisotropies of the ferromagnetic granules, which the films are made of.

In this moment of rising nationalism worldwide, governments, civil society groups, transnational companies, and web users all complain of increasing regional fragmentation online. While prior work in this area has primarily focused on issues of government censorship and regulatory compliance, we use an inductive and qualitative approach to examine targeted blocking by corporate entities of entire regions motivated by concerns about fraud, abuse, and theft. Through participant-observation at relevant events and intensive interviews with experts, we document the quest by professionals tasked with preserving online security to use new machine-learning based techniques to develop a “fairer” system to determine patterns of “good” and “bad” usage. However, we argue that without understanding the systematic social and political conditions that produce differential behaviors online, these systems may continue to embed unequal treatments, and troublingly may further disguise such discrimination behind more complex and less transparent automated assessment. In order to support this claim, we analyze how current forms of regional blocking incentivize users in blocked regions to behave in ways that are commonly flagged as problematic by dominant security and identification systems. To realize truly global, non-Eurocentric cybersecurity techniques would mean incorporating the ecosystems of service utilization developed by marginalized users rather than reasserting norms of an imagined (Western) user that casts aberrations as suspect.

This study explores the combined removal of four pesticides (atrazine, simazine, diuron, isoproturon) and hardness from groundwater with nanofiltration (NF). Four NF membranes were used: NF45 and NF70 (Dow/FilmTec), and UTC-20 and UTC-60 (Toray Ind. Inc.). Each pesticide was added to groundwater samples in a concentration of 1 μg/l, representative for contaminated sources. For the determination of pesticides in such low concentrations, an analytical method using solid-phase extraction and high performance liquid chromatography was elaborated. The retentions with NF were compared and explained by means of molecular size and dipole moment. Molecular size, expressed as an effective diameter representing the projection of the molecule on the membrane surface, was calculated by determining the energetically most favourable molecular configuration. The largest molecules had the highest retentions, when all other properties are comparable. A high dipole moment decreases retentions because of charge interactions with the membrane. The hardness retentions were high. For drinking water production, it might be necessary to add hardness after filtration. The groundwater flux was approximately 5% lower compared to the distilled water flux. This relatively small flux decline indicates pore blocking due to adsorption in the membrane pores. The flux decline was proved reversible; no membrane fouling occurred.

Abstract Main problem for scheduling vessel transit voyages through the Northern Sea Route is the difficulty in predicting distribution of ice boundaries in regions that cannot be overcome by individual ice classes of vessels. Scheduling of voyage is related to speed that vessels can develop and moment of time when vessels will be able to commence and complete passage safely through areas that are main obstacle and are blocking longest transit passage through the Northern Sea Route. This applies to voyages carried out by vessels navigating on their own and with support of icebreakers. Additional problem is lack of consistency of content of maps of ice cover, which can be used for vessels voyage planning through areas where ice cover occurs. Results of this research on influence of uncertain information related with time window of conditions favorable for navigation of vessels of different ice classes on schedule of theirs voyage on example of summer navigation season 2017 are presented in this work.

Activation of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/mTOR pathway is well documented for a broad spectrum of human malignancies supporting their growth and progression. Accumulating evidence has also implicated AKT as a potent modulator of anti-cancer therapies via regulation of DNA damage response and repair (DDR) induced by certain chemotherapeutic agents and ionizing radiation (IR). In the present study, we examined the role of AKT signaling in regulating of Rad51 turnover and cytotoxic effects of topoisomerase II inhibitor, doxorubicin (Dox) in soft tissue sarcomas (STS) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) in vitro. Blocking of AKT signaling (MK-2206) enhanced cytotoxic and pro-apoptotic effects of Dox in vast majority of STS and GIST cell lines. The phosphorylated form of Akt co-immunoprecipitates with Rad51 after Dox-induced DNA damage, whereas Akt inhibition interrupts this interaction and decreases Rad51 protein level by enhancing protein instability via proteasome-dependent degradation. Inhibition of Akt signaling in Dox-treated cells was associated with the increased number of γ-H2AX-positive cells, decrease of Rad51 foci formation and its colocalization with γ-H2AX foci, thereby revealing unsuccessful DDR events. This was also in consistency with an increase of tail moment (TM) and olive tail moment (OTM) in Dox-treated GIST and STS cells cultured in presence of Akt inhibitor after Dox washout. Altogether, our data illustrates that inhibition of AKT signaling is STS and GIST might potentiate the cytotoxic effect of topoisomerase II inhibitors via attenuating the homology-mediated DNA repair.

Adaptation of fingertip forces to friction at the grasping surface is necessary to prevent use of inadequate or excessive grip forces. In the current study we investigated the effect of blocking tactile information from the fingertips noninvasively on the adaptation and efficiency of grip forces to surface friction during precision grasp. Ten neurologically intact subjects grasped and lifted an instrumented grip device with 18 different frictional surfaces under three conditions: with bare hands or with a thin layer of plastic (Tegaderm) or an additional layer of foam affixed to the fingertips. The coefficient of friction at the finger-object interface of each surface was obtained for each subject with bare hands and Tegaderm by measuring the slip ratio (grip force/load force) at the moment of slip. We found that the foam layer reduced sensibility for two-point discrimination and pressure sensitivity at the fingertips, but Tegaderm did not. However, Tegaderm reduced static, but not dynamic, tactile discrimination. Adaptation of fingertip grip forces to surface friction measured by the rate of change of peak grip force, and grip force efficiency measured by the grip-load force ratio at lift, showed a proportional relationship with bare hands but were impaired with Tegaderm and foam. Activation of muscles engaged in precision grip also varied with the frictional surface with bare hands but not with Tegaderm and foam. The results suggest that sensitivity for static tactile discrimination is necessary for feedforward and feedback control of grip forces and for adaptive modulation of muscle activity during precision grasp.

The number of membrane bioreactor (MBR) installations is increasing worldwide, not only for small-scale industrial WWTPs but also for larger-scale municipal WWTPs. In Europe, MBR has been installed in municipal WWTPs since late 1990s, and more than 100 full-scale plants are operated at the moment. In this paper, present state of European municipal MBRs is described in terms of design and operating conditions, as well as operating problems and their solutions, based on the information collected from 17 full-scale WWTPs by interview and questionnaire survey. Decisive factors of MBR installation at these plants were footprint and effluent quality. Full-aerobic and pre-denitrification were the most common reactor configurations, nearly half of them being equipped with independent filtration tanks. Operating conditions of bioreactor and filtration, including membrane flux and cleaning strategy, were different from plant to plant, as a result of plant-specific optimization experiences, even among the similar type of membrane. Operating problems specific for MBR were reported, including blocking/failure of pre-screen, sludging/hair-clogging of membrane, damage on membrane unit, air in permeate pipes, as well as conventional troubles including occurrence of scum and initial trouble in instrumentation and control systems. Aspects for further optimization of MBR design were also pointed out by the operators.

The magnetotactic bacterium Magnetospirillum sp. has been cultured and the properties of its endogenous magnetic nanoparticles characterized. Electron-microscopic analyses indicate that the endogenous magnetite nanoparticles in Magnetospirillum sp. are coated with a 3–4 nm thick transparent shell, forming a magnetosome. These magnetite nanoparticles had diameters of 50.9±13.3 nm, in good agreement with the diameter of 40.6±1.2 nm extracted from magnetometry. Each Magnetospirillum sp. bacterium contained chains of 5–25 magnetosomes. Superconducting quantum interference device magnetometry results indicate that the extrinsic superparamagnetic response of the bacterial solution at room temperature can be attributed to the reversal of the magnetization by physical rotation of the nanoparticles. The intrinsic blocking temperature of a sample of freeze-dried bacteria was estimated to be 282±13 K. A tunnelling magneto resistance sensor was used to detect the stray fields of endogenous magnetic nanoparticles in static and quasi-dynamic modes. Based on the tunnelling magneto resistance sensor results, the magnetic moment per bacterium was estimated to be approximately 2.6×10 −13 emu. The feasibility of this detection method either as a mass-coverage device or as part of an integrated microfluidic circuit for detection and sorting of magnetosome-containing cells was demonstrated.

The mechanisms whereby anticholinergics improve asthma outcomes, such as lung function, symptoms, and rate of exacerbation, can be numerous. The most obvious is by affecting the contraction of airway smooth muscle (ASM). The acetylcholine released from the cholinergic nerves is the most important bronchoconstrictor that sets the baseline degree of contractile activation of ASM in healthy individuals. Although the degree of ASM’s contractile activation can also be fine-tuned by a plethora of other bronchoconstrictors and bronchodilators in asthma, blocking the ceaseless effect of acetylcholine on ASM by anticholinergics reduces, at any given moment, the overall degree of contractile activation. Because the relationships that exist between the degree of contractile activation, ASM force, ASM shortening, airway narrowing, airflow resistance, and respiratory resistance are not linear, small decreases in the contractile activation of ASM can be greatly amplified and thus translate into important benefits to a patient’s well-being. Plus, many inflammatory and remodeling features that are often found in asthmatic lungs synergize with the contractile activation of ASM to increase respiratory resistance. This review recalls that the proven effectiveness of anticholinergics in the treatment of asthma could be merely attributed to a small reduction in the contractile activation of ASM.

The theory of the structural dissociation of the personality proposes a precise description of the psychological phenomena involved in the integration of traumatic memories. According to this theory, memories are successfully integrated in a narrative—that is, stored in an adaptive memory network—when there has been synthesis of the different elements (affects, cognitions, images, sensorimotor reactions, behaviors) for each moment of a particular event, and when realization has occurred. Realization implies personification and presentification. Personification is the ability individuals have to feel that they have experienced (traumatic) events. Presentification is the ability to realize that the event took place in the past and is over now. In this article we present these concepts and how they relate to eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy and its underlying hypothesis of adaptive information processing. The article describes how EMDR therapists can use these concepts to better understand the reprocessing of their clients and possible blocking of this reprocessing. Understanding the concepts of synthesis, personification, and presentification makes it possible for EMDR therapists to choose the specific supportive interventions and cognitive interweaves that will best support the adaptive information processing. Such psychological phenomena should attract more attention in the future in EMDR clinical research and practice.

Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases are the most common neurodegenerative diseases worldwide and their incidence is increasing due to the aging population. At the moment, the available therapies are not disease modifying and have several limitations, some of which are discussed in this review. One of the main limitations of these treatments is the low concentration that drugs reach in the central nervous system after systemic administration. Indeed, the presence of biological barriers, particularly the blood-brain barrier (BBB), hinders the effective drug delivery to the brain, reducing the potential benefit coming from the administration of the medication. In this review, the mechanisms of transport across the BBB and new methods to improve drug passage across the BBB are discussed. These methods include non-invasive solutions such as intranasal and intravitreal administration, and the use of nanotechnology solutions based on polymeric carriers when the drug is intravenously injected, orally taken for intestine adsorption or delivered through the dermal mucosa. Also, it provides an analysis of more invasive solutions that include intracranially injected hydrogels and implanted devices for local drug delivery. Efforts in finding new therapeutic drugs blocking neurodegenerative disease progression or reverting their course should be coupled with efforts addressed to efficient drug delivery systems. Hence, new pharmacology discoveries together with advancements in nanotechnologies and biomaterials for regenerative medicine are required to effectively counteract neurodegenerative diseases.

Abstract. Large eddy simulations (LESs) of a radiation fog event occurring during the ParisFog experiment are studied with a view to analyse the impact of the dynamics of the boundary layer on the fog life cycle. The LES, performed with the Meso-NH model at 5 m resolution horizontally and 1 m vertically, and with a 2-moment microphysical scheme, includes the drag effect of a tree barrier and the deposition of droplets on vegetation. The model shows good agreement with measurements of near-surface dynamic and thermodynamic parameters and liquid water path. The blocking effect of the trees induces elevated fog formation, as actually observed, and horizontal heterogeneities during the formation. It also limits cooling and cloud water production. Deposition is found to exert the most significant impact on fog prediction as it not only erodes the fog near the surface but also modifies the fog life cycle and induces vertical heterogeneities. A comparison with the 2 m horizontal resolution simulation reveals small differences, meaning that grid convergence is achieved. Conversely, increasing numerical diffusion through a wind advection operator of lower order leads to an increase in the liquid water path and has a very similar effect to removing the tree barrier. This study allows us to establish the major dynamical ingredients needed to accurately represent the fog life cycle at very high-resolution.

AbstractIn late 1599 the population of York was able to witness a fairly extraordinary sight. In York Castle, the Catholic prisoners of conscience, as they saw themselves (though others regarded them as dangerous political dissidents), were being compelled to listen, once a week, to a Protestant sermon. These sermons were preached at them by a slate of godly ministers. This exercise was something the prisoners actively contested by murmuring, blocking their ears, shouting, and attempting to rush out of the hall. The prisoners' antics provoked the authorities into increasingly coercive measures to make them hear the Word of God. This outwardly rather ridiculous and unseemly charade went on, week after week, for nearly a year, at which point the whole business was abandoned by the lord president, Lord Burghley, as a waste of time. However, by decoding the extant manuscript narrative that we have of the sermon series and by looking at who was involved in this business and why, and what political messages were being sent during the course of it, we can say something about the popular politics of late Elizabethan England. In particular, we can comment on the strategies adopted by those who were anticipating the moment, surely not far off, when Tudor power would be extinguished and Elizabeth's crown would pass to her successor.

LF82, a prototype of adherent-invasive E. coli (AIEC), is able to adhere to, invade, survive and replicate into intestinal epithelial cells. LF82 is able to enhance either its adhesion and invasion by up-regulating carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 (CEACAM-6), the main cell surface molecule for bacterial adhesion, and its intracellular survival by inducing host DNA damage, thus blocking the cellular cycle. Lactoferrin (Lf) is a multifunctional cationic glycoprotein of natural immunity, exerting an anti-invasive activity against LF82 when added to Caco-2 cells at the moment of infection. Here, the infection of 12 h Lf pre-treated Caco-2 cells was carried out at a time of 0 or 3 or 10 h after Lf removal from culture medium. The effect of Lf pre-treatment on LF82 invasiveness, survival, cell DNA damage, CEACAM-6 expression, apoptosis induction, as well as on Lf subcellular localization, has been evaluated. Lf, even if removed from culture medium, reduced LF82 invasion and survival as well as bacteria-induced DNA damage in Caco-2 cells independently from induction of apoptosis, modulation of CEACAM-6 expression and Lf sub-cellular localization. At our knowledge, this is the first study showing that the sole Lf pre-treatment can activate protective intracellular pathways, reducing LF82 invasiveness, intracellular survival and cell–DNA damages.

Background: Phencyclidine (PCP, I) is a synthetic drug with remarkable physiological properties. PCP and its analogues exert many pharmacological activities and interact with some neurotransmitter systems in the central nervous system like particular affinity for PCP sites in NMDA receptors or dopamine uptake blocking or even both. Aim and Objective: The following research, methyl group with electron-donating and dipole moment characters was added in different positions of phenyl ring along with the substitution of benzylamine (with many pharmacological effects) instead of piperidine ring of I to produce new compounds (II-V) of this family with more analgesic activities. Materials and Methods: Analgesic activities of these new compounds were measured by tail immersion and formalin tests for acute and chronic pains, respectively. Also, the outcomes were compared with control and PCP (10 mg/kg) groups. Results: The results indicate that compounds III, IV, and V have more acute and chronic antinociceptive effects than PCP and compound II which may be concerned with more antagonizing activities of these new painkillers for the blockage of dopamine reuptake as well as high affinity for NMDA receptors PCP binding site. Conclusion: It can be concluded that the benzylamine derivative of phencyclidine with a methyl group on the benzyl position on phenyl ring (V) is a more appropriate candidate to reduce acute and chronic (thermal and chemical) pains compared to other substituted phenyl analogs (II-IV) and PCP.

Biogenic ferrihydrite nanoparticles were synthesized as a result of the cultivation of Klebsiella oxytoca microorganisms. The distribution of nanoparticles in the body of laboratory animals and the physical properties of the nanoparticles were studied. The synthesized ferrihydrite nanoparticles are superparamagnetic at room temperature, and the characteristic blocking temperature is 23–25 K. The uncompensated moment of ferrihydrite particles was determined to be approximately 200 Bohr magnetons. In vitro testing of different concentrations of ferrihydrite nanoparticles for the functional activity of neutrophilic granulocytes by the chemiluminescence method showed an increase in the release of primary oxygen radicals by blood phagocytes when exposed to a minimum concentration and a decrease in secondary radicals when exposed to a maximum concentration. In vivo testing of ferrihydrite nanoparticles on Wister rats showed that a suspension of ferrihydrite nanoparticles has chronic toxicity, since it causes morphological changes in organs, mainly in the spleen, which are characterized by the accumulation of hemosiderin nanoparticles (stained blue according to Perls). Ferrihydrite can also directly or indirectly stimulate the proliferation and intracellular regeneration of hepatocytes. The partial detection of Perls-positive cells in the liver and kidneys can be explained by the rapid elimination from organs and the high dispersion of the nanomaterial. Thus, it is necessary to carry out studies of these processes at the systemic level, since the introduction of nanoparticles into the body is characterized by adaptive-proliferative processes, accompanied by the development of cell dystrophy and tension of the phagocytic system.

ABSTRACT We calibrate a neutrino transport approximation, called Advanced Spectral Leakage (ASL), with the purpose of modelling neutrino-driven winds in neutron star mergers. Based on a number of snapshots, we gauge the ASL parameters by comparing against both the two-moment (M1) scheme implemented in the flash code and the Monte Carlo neutrino code sedonu. The ASL scheme contains three parameters, the least robust of which results to be a blocking parameter for electron neutrinos and antineutrinos. The parameter steering the angular distribution of neutrino heating is recalibrated compared to the earlier work. We also present a new, fast and mesh-free algorithm for calculating spectral optical depths, which, when using smoothed-particle hydrodynamics (SPH), makes the neutrino transport completely particle-based. We estimate a speed-up of a factor of ≳100 in the optical depth calculation when comparing to a grid-based approach. In the suggested calibration we recover luminosities and mean energies within $25{{\ \rm per\ cent}}$. A comparison of the rates of change of internal energy and electron fraction in the neutrino-driven wind suggests comparable accuracies of ASL and M1, but a higher computational efficiency of the ASL scheme. We estimate that the ratio between the CPU hours spent on the ASL neutrino scheme and those spent on the hydrodynamics is ≲0.8 per time-step when considering the SPH code magma2 as source code for the Lagrangian hydrodynamics, to be compared with a factor of 10 from the M1 in flash.

Synthesis and exploration of intriguing physical properties of alkali-metal-doped aromatic hydrocarbons have been the important research topics in the fields of physics, chemistry and materials science. In this work, a powder sample of potassium-doped tris(diphenacyl) iron molecular crystal is prepared by the high-vacuum annealing method. The X-ray diffraction results show that the crystal structure of the synthesized sample is different from that of pristine tris(diphenacyl)iron. The direct current(DC) magnetic susceptibilitiy shows a pronounced hump structure near 8.0 K, which is distinct from the paramagnetism of pristine material in the whole temperature range of 1.8–300 K. The alternating current (AC) magnetic susceptibility shows that the hump has a significant frequency dependence, which can safely rule out the possibility of antiferromagnetism. The combination of the Vogel-Fulcher law, the Néel-Brown model and the critical slowing down model reveals that the hump originates from superparamagnetism with a blocking temperature (T<sub>B</sub>) of about 8.0 K. According to the results of Raman spectroscopy, it can be confirmed that the 4s electrons of potassium in the doped material are transferred to the benzene ring of tris(diphenacyl)iron, causing the characteristic Raman modes to be red-shifted and the local magnetic moment to form. Our work is of great significance in exploring alkali-metal-doped aromatic hydrocarbons, and provides a new route for searching organic magnetic materials.

Strengthening the rule of law and consolidating democracy is still a challenge facing countries in Southeastern Europe (see). Despite the prospective for eu accession for the Western Balkan states and full eu membership for others, issues regarding the quality of democratic institutions and the efficiency of legal procedures are still at stake. There are multiple factors that contribute to the weakened state of constitutional democracy in see countries while also blocking their political and social development. This article offers a sober view on the democratic consolidation process, emphasizing that a decline from democratic politics may happen at any moment. For one, defective democracies in Southeastern Europe are exposed to nationalism and populism, suffering from weak institutional performance and a burdensome communist legacy. Furthermore, negative stereotypes and practices of exercising political power in see countries hamper the development of the rule of law, efficient democratic systems, and accountable governments. Corruption and clientelism likewise seem embedded in the social structures. Thus, in the absence or inefficiency of the rule of law, the political situation in see countries is often described in terms of a ‘state capture’, not democratic consolidation. However, according to a mid-term perspective, positive change is still possible, but it requires active civil society participation as well as eu institutional commitment to the rule of law and democracy building in the region. In some cases, moreover, coordinated endeavors between active civil society groups and eu institutions could exercise effective pressure on the national political elites to introduce necessary institutional reforms.

Abstract Objective: Joint damage due to recurrent joint bleeds remains the most common complication in hemophilia. The combination of cartilage degeneration and synovial inflammation ultimately lead to hemophilic arthropathy. Cartilage destruction is considered to result from both cartilage matrix-degrading proteases as well as cartilage-destructive pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-1b. To unravel the role of IL1b in the pathogenesis of blood-induced cartilage damage, we investigated whether direct blocking of IL1b specifically prevents blood-induced cartilage damage in vitro. Moreover, we investigated whether blocking IL1b after the onset of a bleed can still avert cartilage damage. Methods: Full thickness healthy human articular cartilage explants, obtained post-mortem, were cultured for four days in presence or absence of 50% v/v whole blood. A recombinant human IL1b monoclonal antibody (IL1bmAb) was added at the moment of blood exposure in a concentration of 0, 1, 3, 10, 30, or 100ng/mL (n=8). Furthermore, 100ng/mL IL1bmAb was administered directly or after a delay of several hours up to two days (n=7). Cartilage matrix proteoglycan turnover was determined 12 days later to analyse long-term effects. To investigate the direct effects of IL1bmAb on cartilage, explants were cultured for four days in the presence of 10ng/mL IL1bmAb in the absence of blood (n=7). Results: Exposure to blood decreased the proteoglycan synthesis rate and -content, and increased the proteoglycan release (all p<0.05). Adding IL1bmAb resulted in a dose-dependent increase of the proteoglycan synthesis rate leading to normalisation at higher concentrations (see figure A). Proteoglycan release and –content also normalised after addition of IL1bmAb. Its protective effect was most pronounced when IL1bmAb was administered within 4 hours after the bleed, but significant recovery was still achieved by administration within 8-24 hours (see figure B for proteoglycan synthesis). In the absence of blood, IL1bmAb did not have direct effects on cartilage proteoglycan turnover (for all three parameters p>0.50). Conclusions: This study demonstrates that IL1b is a crucial factor in the development of blood-induced cartilage damage in vitro. Blocking this pro-inflammatory cytokine with a monoclonal antibody protects cartilage from the damaging effects of blood exposure in a dose-dependent way. Early administration after blood-exposure is most beneficial. Further research is warranted to investigate the in vivo capacity of IL1bmAb in prevention and its position as a treatment to limit joint damage upon joint bleeding. Abstract Fragile X-associated tremor and ataxia syndrome (FXTAS) is a late-onset, progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by tremors, ataxia and neuropsychological problems. This disease is quite common in the general population with approximately 20 million carriers worldwide. The risk of developing FXTAS increases dramatically with age, with about 45% of male carriers over the age of 50 being affected. FXTAS is caused by a CGG-repeat expansion (CGGexp) in the fragile X mental retardation 1 (FMR1) gene. CGGexp RNA is translated into the FMRpolyG protein by a mechanism called RAN translation. Although both gene and pathogenic trigger are known, no therapeutic interventions are available at this moment. Here, we present, for the first time, primary hippocampal neurons derived from the ubiquitous inducible mouse model which is used as a screening tool for targeted interventions. A promising candidate is the repeat binding, RAN translation blocking, small molecule 1a. Small molecule 1a shields the disease-causing CGGexp from being translated into the toxic FMRpolyG protein. Primary hippocampal neurons formed FMRpolyG-positive inclusions, and upon treatment with 1a, the numbers of FMRpolyG-positive inclusions are reduced. We also describe for the first time the formation of FMRpolyG-positive inclusions in the liver of this mouse model. Treatment with 1a reduced the insoluble FMRpolyG protein fraction in the liver but not the number of inclusions. Moreover, 1a treatment had a reducing effect on the number of Rad23b-positive inclusions and insoluble Rad23b protein levels. These data suggest that targeted small molecule therapy is effective in an FXTAS mouse model and has the potential to treat CGGexp-mediated diseases, including FXTAS.

Volleyball involves movements with and/or without horizontal approaches (i.e., spike jumps, jump setting, blocking). The 5-jump test (5JT) was suggested to assess lower limb explosive power of athletes competing in some disciplines (e.g., soccer, judo, running). It appears that no previous study has investigated the 5JT performance components in volleyball players. This study aimed to test the relationship between 5JT performance and two specific laboratory tests for explosive power (i.e., countermovement jump [CMJ] and squat jump [SJ]). Forty volleyball players (boys, mean age: 12.4 ± 0.8 years) were tested for 5JT, CMJ, and SJ tests. 5JT performance was expressed in absolute terms (m), and relative to leg length (5JTLL) and body mass (5JTBM). The SJ and CMJ tests were evaluated using the optojump photoelectric cells and the following data were collected: peak power (Pp) of jump (W, W.kg-0.67), peak jumping force (Fpeak, N), peak jumping velocity (Vpeak, m/s), peak heights of CMJ and SJ (CMJH and SJH, respectively, cm). Only significant ( p < .05) Pearson product-moment correlations ( r) > 0.30 were considered. 5JT performance was significantly correlated with SJ, Vpeak ( r = 0.90), SJH ( r = 0.88), Pp [W.kg-0.67 ( r = 0.86), W ( r = 0.72)], Fpeak ( r = 0.45); and CMJ, Vpeak ( r = 0.82), CMJH ( r = 0.80), Pp [W.kg-0.67 ( r = 0.89), W ( r = 0.85)], Fpeak ( r = 0.73). 5JTLL values were significantly related to SJ, Pp [W ( r = 0.81), W.kg-0.67 ( r = 0.74)], Vpeak ( r = 0.82); and CMJ, Pp [W ( r = 0.73), W.kg-0.67 ( r = 0.84)], Vpeak ( r = 0.75), Fpeak ( r = 0.67)]. 5JTBM values were significantly related to SJ, Pp (W, r = −0.43). To conclude, in youth volleyball players, the 5JT may be viewed as an explosive strength diagnostic instrument under field circumstances.

Introduction (problem statement and relevance). One of the most promising and intensively developing directions in the automation field of road transport management is the creation of highly automated vehicles.The purpose of the study was to find a way to solve a wheeled vehicle safe automatic braking problem in terms of minimizing quality control of the quadratic functional and work out optimal software and hardware implementation of this system.Methodology and research methods. To solve the problem, the method of the control algorithm analytical design was used, basing on the use of the necessary conditions for minimizing the elements of the functional for the control law synthesis. The maximum deceleration value was due to the identified tire grip, and the deceleration threshold from which braking begins was selected as the minimum of the working deceleration and two decelerations depending on the rear obstacle distance.Scientific novelty and results. The tests of the developed function were carried out for the LADA Vesta vehicle equipped with an ABS valve body with the possibility of programmed control. The analysis of the research results showed that when solving the problem of safe automatic braking in front of an obstacle, the software limitation of braking deceleration did not allow wheel blocking and performed the functions of an anti-lock braking system at the permissible wheel slipping level; software backup of the distance calculation to the front obstacle from the moment of braking start allowed to prevent most of the situations with false data from the radar when the vehicle pecked during braking.Practical significance. Software tuning of mathematical models parameters of the engine, transmission and braking system allows you to adapt the automatic braking system to a wide class of vehicle models.

The aim of our research was to analyze and compare different inferior alveolar nerve blocking techniques and the effectiveness of various guiding devices. Methods: A search was conducted on specialized databases for search and selection of works in which a guiding device for lower alveolar nerve block (IANB) was described. The propriated articles were evaluated and selected in 3 stages for final review based on predefined criteria, followed by a critical evaluation stage. As the research result - various types of IANB guide devices and the results of its using were recorded and analyzed. Results: The systematic review of devices for conducting IANB was done. The success of IANB can be achieved by adjusting the syringe with the anesthetic needle trajectory — it increased the probability of a successful hit in the area of the mandible foramen. Examples of devices in which the syringe is fixed at the moment when the tip of the needle is injected into the medial side of the branch of the lower alveolar nerve are considered. And also, the special techniques based on orientation on the soft tissues are described. However, when creating a device of this type, the following factors must be taken into account: the angle of the needle to the insertion point, the position of the insertion point relative to the anatomical landmarks (taking into account individual characteristics), and the insertion depth. Also, other IANB guiding blockade methods are considered: 3D navigation while local anesthetic injection. Thus, the patient's discomfort, the risk of nerve damage and the risk of unsuccessful mandible anesthesia could be minimized. Conclusion: The advantages and disadvantages of these anesthesia methods, the success rate, and patient comfort were analyzed. Prospects for further research in this area were identified.

AbstractIn post-revolution Iran, the sacred notion of martyrdom has been transformed into a routine act of government – a moral sign of order and state sovereignty. Moving beyond the debates of the secularisation of the sacred and the making sacred of the secular, this article argues that the moment of sacralisation is realised through co-production within a social setting when the object of sacralisation is recognised as such by others. In contemporary Iran, however, the moment of sacralising bodies by the state is also the moment of its own subversion as the political-theological field of martyrdom is contested and challenged from within. This article traces the genealogy of martyrdom in contemporary Iran in order to explore its institutionalised forms and governmental practices. During the revolution, the Shi'a tradition of martyrdom and its dramatic performances of ritual mourning and self-sacrifice became central to the mass mobilisation against the monarchy. Once the revolutionary government came into existence, this sacred tradition was regulated to create ‘martyrs’ as a fixed category, in order to consolidate the legacy of the revolution. In this political theatre, the dead body is a site of transformation and performance upon which the original narrative of martyrdom takes place even as it displaces it and gives new meanings to the act.A CrashOn the morning of 6 December 2005, an Iranian military plane C-130 carrying journalists and Army officials crashed near Mehrabad airport in Tehran. The plane was attempting an emergency landing when it hit a ten-storey apartment block, setting off a big explosion which set fire to the building. In all, one hundred and sixteen charred bodies were recovered – ninty four passengers and twenty two residents of the building – from the smoke and rubble in this working class area of south-western Tehran. The residents were mostly women and schoolchildren who had stayed home – because of an official anti-pollution drive – to avoid a thick layer of smog that had developed over Tehran skies over the previous few days. Dozens of people were injured on the ground and the riot police had to be called in to clear the area of curious onlookers who were blocking the emergency services.The plane crash was met with grief, guilt and hints of anger. The Iranian media was most vocal in its expression of rage – seventy eight journalists had lost their lives in an instant. The ‘Iran News Daily’, a leading English language newspaper based in Tehran, two days later devoted a full page to the crash coverage including scathing editorials demanding accountability and answers to “disturbing questions” from the government. The editorial entitled ‘Duty and Responsibility’ stated that “condolences are not enough. People, the near and dear ones of victims in particular, have the right to know. Did the C-130 have technical problems? Was it fit for the passenger service? What would have really happened if the flight was cancelled? Who gave the final permission for the journey to go ahead? Is this another case of human error or engine failure? How can such major loss of innocent life be explained, leave [sic] alone justified?”2Similarly, Hossein Shariatmadari, influential editor of the conservative Persian daily ‘Kayhan’, called for a full investigation, not because it would bring “the dead back to life but (to) prevent repetition of similar incidents and further disasters”.3As private and public condolences began pouring in – newspapers had allocated prime space for such purpose – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent a short message through state media that dramatically altered the narrative of grief and anger against the authorities. The message read as follows: “I learned of the catastrophe and the fact that members of the press have been martyred. I offer my condolences to the Supreme Leader and to the families of the victims”. With this message the dead journalists had been officially pronounced ‘martyrs’ – a moral-political subjectivity that traces its genealogy to the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.4In a single moment, the burnt corpses were no longer the bodies of ordinary victims of a plane crash, but the corpses of martyrs, and their charred remains sacrificial relics.

It is an open question as to whether blockchains can become an integral part of health care management in the US. On the one hand, there are the advocates of blockchains who see them as empowering patients to capture property rights to their medical records in a secure, encrypted, and portable form. On the other hand, there are blockchain critics that see the opportunities offered in health care as little different from those offered in other industries, viewing a blockchain structure as one that may reduce administrative and transaction costs, with little thought given to the potential of blockchain platforms to support a range of health technology assessment activities. While previous commentaries have pointed to this potential, the obstacles offered by the absence of clearly defined property rights and the absence of a market for DNA profiles have not been explored. The case put forward here is that any expectation that a blockchain as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for the interrogation of personal health records alone is unlikely to succeed. Apart from property rights effectively blocking this business model the blockchain vendor should consider targeted value added activities. At best, only a subset of records has the possibility of being transferred, with ongoing concerns regarding their quality and scope. This does not mean that the blockchain software model should be rejected. Far from it. The blockchain as a health technology assessment platform has the potential to support added value activities which not only improve the process of care and reduce costs and improve efficiencies, but also provide an ideal framework for property rights assignment. This opens the door to incentives and the monetization of value added health data by patients and providers, capturing rents that are at the moment expropriated by third parties. Critical issues are not only property rights and creation of a market place, but the ability to link and incentivize patients and their providers to support active blockchains to generate value added. The ankle joint muscles can contribute to balance during walking by modulating the center of pressure and ground reaction forces through an ankle moment. This is especially effective in the sagittal plane through ankle plantar- or dorsiflexion. If the ankle joints were to be physically blocked to make an ankle strategy ineffective, there would be no functional contribution of these muscles to balance during walking, nor would these muscles generate afferent output regarding ankle joint rotation. Consequently, ankle muscle activation for the purpose of balance control would be expected to disappear. We have performed an experiment in which subjects received anteroposterior pelvis perturbations during walking while their ankle joints could not contribute to the balance recovery. The latter was realized by physically blocking the ankle joints through a pair of modified ankle-foot orthoses. In this article we present the lower limb muscle activity responses in reaction to these perturbations. Of particular interest are the tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius medialis muscles, which could not contribute to the balance recovery through the ankle joint or encode muscle length changes caused by ankle joint rotation. Yet, these muscles showed long-latency responses, ~100 ms after perturbation onset. The response amplitudes were dependent on the perturbation magnitude and direction, as well as the state of the leg. The results imply that ankle muscle responses can be evoked without changes in proprioceptive information of those muscles through ankle rotation. This suggest a more centralized regulation of balance control, not strictly related to the ankle joint kinematics. NEW & NOTEWORTHY Walking human subjects received forward-backward perturbations at the pelvis while wearing “pin-shoes,” a pair of modified ankle-foot orthoses that physically blocked ankle joint movement and reduced the base of support of each foot to a single point. The lower leg muscles showed long-latency perturbation-dependent activity changes, despite having no functional contributions to balance control through the ankle joint and not having been subjected to muscle length changes through ankle joint rotation.

Objective. The article describes the features of works on coastal protection of territories subject to slope processes. The role of research of leading processes of destruction of coastal zones in the framework of the program “The Ecology of Safe Construction and Municipal Services” for forecasting and preventing risks, as well as providing information for further work on building reliable coastal protection, is emphasized. Despite the existing variety of ways to protect embankments from erosion, the search for new technical solutions at the moment continues to be an urgent task.Methods. Geotechnical monitoring of hydraulic structures was carried out. Visual assessments of cracks, slopes of individual structural blocks, and deformations were performed. A thermal imager device is used to search for abnormal temperatures and an electronic hardness meter that measures the strength of concrete.Results. It is determined that the water regime of the Astrakhan Region is characterized by an uneven distribution of runoff due to a direct dependence on the flow rate from the Volgograd hydropower plant. The predominant source of moisture is discharges in the form of a series of rain floods, which often cause flooding. One of the most effective solutions is to preserve the operational characteristics of the bank protection spur-pile of variable cross-section when changing the hydrological river regime. The bank protection spur runs partially movable horizontally and vertically and comprises a head spur in the form of piles of variable height; the body in the form of a floating garland of variable cross-section; the base in the form of a slider block. The design and technological solution allow blocking the coastal stream with the body of the spur at any water level and changing the angle of inclination of the spur with the protected shore.Conclusion. Prevention of emergencies, especially in urbanized areas that are subject to intense anthropogenic impact, is possible only when engineering protective structures are built, which have a positive effect both in protective and environmental aspects.

Recently published experimental data on the presence of different types of angiotensin receptors in melanoma tissue and in breast cancer, for example, are undoubtedly alarming and indicative because Sartan therapy (in certain groups of patients) may be a risk factor for the patients themselves. The reason for this is the ability of the specific group of drugs to promote carcinogenesis by blocking certain types of receptors, presented in certain types of tumors. The available in vivo and in vitro data in the world literature on the influence of antihypertensive drugs (Sartans and Thiazide diuretics) on melanogenesis and development of other cancerous forms, although disputed, are numerous. Even more disturbing are the further data in the medical literature on the development of multiple tumors after administration of Sartans alone or in combination with hydrochlorothiazide. According to other literature data, even monotherapy with the already mentioned diuretic- hydrochlorothiazide, could be seen as a possible key or risk factor for the development of cutaneous melanoma. We present a clinical case of a 67-year-old patient with anamnestic data for systemic antihypertensive therapy with a combined preparation containing Valsartan / hydrochlorothiazide 160 mg / 12.5 mg for the period from the end of 2011 to March, 2020, came on occasion of a prophylactic dermatological examination. The examination found a pigmented lesion in the right torso, clinically and dermatoscopically suspected of thin cutaneous melanoma. According to the anamnesis and available documentation, it is clear that within this combined antihypertensive medication, the patient has developed two additional neoplasms in the recent past: choroidal melanoma and colorectal carcinoma successfully treated surgically. To what extent, the shared data (on the occurrence of multiple tumors after combination treatment with antihypertensives such as sartans and thiazide diuretics) would lead to the necessary and desirable rethinking of therapeutic strategies for the treatment of hypertension and clarification of the mechanisms at molecular level, at this moment - remains unclear. Анотація:
The subject of the article is the models of protection of official, commercial, confidential and other information, which is used by the officials of enterprises when making managerial decisions in terms of destabilizing informative influences. The aim of the study is to obtain an integral index, which characterizes the protection of necessary information, which is used by the officials of the enterprise when making managerial decisions in the presence of destabilizing information influences from the social networks, open sources and insiders. The task of this work are determinations of basic parameters, that characterize the system of defense of information of enterprise at the acceptance of administrative decisions a public servant in the conditions of destabilizing informative influences. The methods of researches are a probability theory and quality theory of differential equalizations. Results: on the basis of the observation and research of the activity of officials in the enterprises of different forms of ownership it was established that making managerial decisions by an official of the enterprise under conditions of destabilizing information influence is a relaxation fluctuation in the non-autonomous model of psychological arousal. An analysis of the dynamics of the sequence of influencing impulses on an official from existing information sources was conducted. An integral index, that determines a thresholding at that the system of informative defense of enterprise answers politicians of informative defense of enterprise at the acceptance of administrative decisions, is got. Conclusions: it was found that the threat of successful destabilizing information influence on management decision making by an official of the enterprise is determined by three parameters: the parameter, which determines the leakage of confidential information, the parameter, which determines the violation of the integrity of information and the parameter, which determines the blocking of access to information. It is noticed that the beginning of the emergence of a sequence of influencing destabilizing information influences on the enterprise determined by the content of the information at the initial moment of time (the effect of suggestion) and occurs over a period of time (lag effect).

Linemen are at high risk for knee cartilage injuries and osteoarthritis. High-intensity movements from squatting positions (eg, 3-point stance) may produce high joint loads, increasing the risk for cartilage damage. We hypothesized that knee moments and joint reaction forces during lineman-specific activities would be greater than during walking or jogging. Data were collected using standard motion analysis techniques. Fifteen NCAA linemen (mean ± SD: height = 1.86 ± 0.07 m, mass = 121.45 ± 12.78 kg) walked, jogged, and performed 3 unloaded lineman-specific blocking movements from a 3-point stance. External 3-dimensional knee moments and joint reaction forces were calculated using inverse dynamics equations. MANOVA with subsequent univariate ANOVA and post hoc Tukey comparisons were used to determine differences in peak kinetic variables and the flexion angles at which they occurred. All peak moments and joint reaction forces were significantly higher during jogging than during all blocking drills (all P < .001). Peak moments occurred at average knee flexion angles > 70° during blocking versus < 44° in walking or jogging. The magnitude of moments and joint reaction forces when initiating movement from a 3-point stance do not appear to increase risk for cartilage damage, but the high flexion angles at which they occur may increase risk on the posterior femoral condyles.

Introduction. The paper devotes to the features of hydration and hardening of polymineral composite binders. The authors carry out the complex research of the phase composition, hydration and structure formation processes of hardened composite binders with active mineral additives by X-ray phase analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and electron microscopy. The study using a Tescan MIRA 3 scanning electron microscope reveals differences in the microstructure of hardened binders and the authors confirm the results by microprobe studies. The authors study the hydration of the composite binder prepared on the basis of Portland cement and mineral components. Moreover, the paper demonstrates the dynamics of the system’s heat dissipation from the moment of mixing with water and hardening up to 24 hours and up to 72 hours by the expressed bond of dQ / dt = f (t) using a differential calorimeter.Methods and materials. The authors carried out experimental studies at Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov, at the Department of Building Materials, Products and Structures, at the High Technology Center and “BelGTASM-Certificate” Test Center. Therefore, the authors used the existing basic research methods, including modern physicochemical methods of analysis: X-ray phase, scanning electron microscopy, etc. The paper determined the main characteristics of raw materials, composite binders and foam concrete using standard methods and regulatory requirements.Results. The authors obtained the results that testified the peculiarities of hydration and hardening processes of polymineral composite binders on the basis of Portland cement and mineral additives: opoka marl and fly ash.Conclusion. The research establishes the hydration and hardening processes of polymineral composite binders. As a result, the authors demonstrate that the opoka marl introduced into the cement leads to the increased hydration in the induction and accelerated periods and also increases the hydration completeness of the main clinker minerals due to the manifestation of the pozzolanic reaction and the active binding of blocking Portlandite, as well as to the higher concentration of accumulated neoplasms, second generation calcium hydrosilicates.Financial transparency: the authors have no financial interest in the presented materials or methods.
