Based on barcode PDF417 image’s characteristics, in order to improve the recognition of bar code, and reduce the bit error ratio, we proposed two methods. One way is to separate the calculation of the width of barcode’s unit from the extract codeword, another is the Recognition of bar blank sequence by using projection algorithm. Thereby, both methods reduce the impact of blurred images made by noisy pollution; the test proved that these two methods can deal with contaminated barcode image effectively.

Since their origin from China, firearms have gained popularity because of easy techniques and effectiveness. This has made them a popular choice of homicide and suicide. Here we present a case where the death is by shooting from a pistol from a point blank range. Bullet takes a crazy course once entered inside the body due to the variation in fluid flow, densities of various organs and air filled cavities. It becomes all the more difficult if there is surgical manipulation. Radiographs were done to have an idea about the place of lodgment of bullet in body. The advent of various radiographic methods like computer tomography and radiography have made the job of autopsy surgeon a little bit easier.

This paper proposes an optimal button arrangement of a percussion drill bit and its operating condition to improve drilling efficiency. A new evaluation method is introduced for the button arrangement that utilizes the superimposed impact area, blank area, and drilling deviation moment as the quantitative indices to evaluate the impact of buttons on the rock surface. To determine the optimal button arrangement and its operating conditions, a progressive metamodel-based design optimization was conducted using the new evaluation indices as the analysis response, and then the optimal solution was determined through iteration. Consequently, all the button evaluation indices were reduced significantly and the impact areas were distributed uniformly under a specific operating condition. Additionally, the drilling performances of the optimal button arrangement were investigated according to the operating conditions to obtain the maximum drilling performance in terms of the drilling machine operation.

More than 35 years and 11 000 publications after the discovery of quasicrystals by Dan Shechtman, quite a bit is known about their occurrence, formation, stability, structures and physical properties. It has also been discovered that quasiperiodic self-assembly is not restricted to intermetallics, but can take place in systems on the meso- and macroscales. However, there are some blank areas, even in the centre of the big picture. For instance, it has still not been fully clarified whether quasicrystals are just entropy-stabilized high-temperature phases or whether they can be thermodynamically stable at 0 K as well. More studies are needed for developing a generally accepted model of quasicrystal growth. The state of the art of quasicrystal research is briefly reviewed and the main as-yet unanswered questions are addressed, as well as the experimental limitations to finding answers to them. The focus of this discussion is on quasicrystal structure analysis as well as on quasicrystal stability and growth mechanisms.

One problem facing owners of high-end digital microscope cameras and scanners is dealing with 12-bit TIFF format images. Because of a vagueness in the TIFF specification [1], some prograins do not load 12-bit TIFF images at all, or do not handle them gracefully. Unfortunately, Adobe Photoshop is one such program.A common problem with 12-bit images that do load in Photoshop is that the image appears to be totally black once loaded. This occurs when the camera stores the most significant bits of the image in the lower 12-bits of a 16-bit data space. Photoshop, when converting to its internal 16-bit representation, does not scale these properly, resulting in a low contrast image. This can present problems with viewing the images, or performing any processing or measurement steps that you might desire.

Organized after an almost complete term of office, but the end of which was marked by the resurgence of the community-linked problems and by the departure of the Ministers of the Volksunie, the parliamentary elections of 24th November 1991 will remain characterized by the punishment inflicted by apart of the voters, not only on the majority's parties, but also on the traditional parties as a whole.The opposition of the dissatisfied voters did not show itself either in a reduced participation to the vote, a rather normal phenomenon in a country where voting is compulsory, or in a rise of the blank and spoilt ba/lot papers. The 1991 figures are, in these respects, very similar to the average figures of the last thirty years.The opposition was first characterized by high variations in the choice of the voters, which dit not, however, exceed the size of the movements noticed at previous elections. The rate of external mobility, as computed by us, is ranked fifth among the 22 levels that have been counted since universal suffrage has been introduced in Belgium. In 1991, this rate was the highest in Brussels, which is traditional, but it was also considerably higher in Flanders than in the Walloon Region, which quite seldom happens.Then, the opposition found expression in a setback for the Jour ruling parties.This set back amounted to about 8% and even 10% if account is taken of the Volksunie which was part of the Government until the very last weeks before the dissolution of the Houses of Parliament. Such a setback for an outgoing majority is not exceptional; a more unusual phenomenon lies in the f act that this decline was not profitable, on the whole, to the third traditional "family", i.e. the Liberals. As a result of this simultaneous setback for the three traditional families, these total only about 70% of the valid votes, which is the worst result of the whole Belgian electoral history.The political formations that are progressing are the Ecologists, on the one hand, and the far-right lists, on the other hand. Ecolo improves its results considerably in the Walloon Region and in Brussels, without however reaching the level obtained at the 1989 European elections, while Agalev only registers a slight progress.On the contrary, the winner of the elections in the Flemish Region, is unquestionablythe Vlaams Blok, as well as the "Rossem" lists that draw some 5% of the angry voters.If the far-left trend has almost disappeared from the Belgian political scene, the far-right parties, on the contrary, are making a breakthrough on it. The current made up by the Vlaams Blok and the openly far-right lists wins a bit less than 8% of the votes in the whole country. It is likely, however, that those who voted for the Vlaams Blok do not all adhere to the far-right ideas, but that some of them are attracted by the Flemish autonomist stands. The real electoral power of the far-right parties can then be assessed at 6 to 7%, which is much more than in 1987, hut does not make a record in comparison with other European countries.The votes of opponents without any clear political orientation, the bulk of which is won by the "Rossem" lists, amount to some 3%, which is new for Belgium.In a country where voting is optional, many of these voters would probably have stayed at home.This being so, and as f ar as these concepts still remain meaningful, the Belgian electoral pendulum shifted some 5% towards the right, at the expense of the left for more than 3% and the centre for a bit less than 2%.As far as the Parliament is concerned, the situation is clear in the Walloon Region and in the French-speaking Community where the Socialist Party, by far the most important party, is almost inevitable. It is however much more vague on the Flemish side, where the CVP's setback and the dispersion of the polical farces make several types of coalitions possible.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to calibrate the surface emissivity of micro drill bit and to investigate the effect of different drilling parameters on the temperature of micro drill bit in printed circuit board (PCB) micro drilling process. Design/methodology/approach The surface emissivity of micro drill bit was obtained by experiments. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied in this study to analysis the effect of different drilling parameters on the temperature of micro drill bit in PCB micro hole drilling. The most significant influencing factor on micro drill bit temperature was achieved by ANOVA. Findings First, the surface emissivity of cemented carbide rod decreased from 0.4 to 0.32 slowly with temperature in the range of 50-220°C. Second, the most significant influencing factor on the micro drill bit temperature was spindle speed among the drilling parameters including spindle speed, retract rate and infeed rate. Research limitations/implications In this paper, the influence of roughness of black coating, carbide rod and micro drill bit on the surface emissivity calibration and the temperature measurement was not considered. Originality/value A new simple method has been presented to calibrate the surface emissivity of micro drill bit. Through calibrating the surface emissivity of micro drill bit, the temperature of micro drill bit can be measured accurately by infrared thermometry. Analyzing the influences of different drilling parameters on the temperature of micro drill bit, the mechanism of drilling parameters on drilling temperature is achieved. The basis for the selection of drilling parameters to improve the hole quality is enhanced.

Secret image sharing (SIS) scheme is a secret image encoding and decoding scheme that reconstructs the secret image only if the number of participants is sufficient. In contrast, inadequate participants gain no information about the secret image. Two-in-one secret image sharing (TiOSIS) scheme is a kind of SIS scheme with two decoding options, quick preview without computation and accurate recovery with computer. For higher decoding speed, Li et al. proposed an improved two-in-one secret image sharing scheme, utilizing Boolean operation for less computational complexity, where the visual quality of the previewed image is deteriorated. In this paper, we use q-bit gray visual cryptography to build a mathematical model for better visual quality of the previewed image based on Li et al.’s TiOSIS scheme. The black sub-pixels of shadows corresponding to a black secret pixel are replaced by a q-bit grayscale value rather than an 8-bit grayscale value where q is a positive integer smaller than 8. The theoretical analysis and experiments are exhibited to guarantee feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Abstract We present a novel deep neural network (DNN) training scheme and resistive RAM (RRAM) in-memory computing (IMC) hardware evaluation towards achieving high accuracy against RRAM device/array variations and enhanced robustness against adversarial input attacks. We present improved IMC inference accuracy results evaluated on state-of-the-art DNNs including ResNet-18, AlexNet, and VGG with binary, 2-bit, and 4-bit activation/weight precision for the CIFAR-10 dataset. These DNNs are evaluated with measured noise data obtained from three different RRAM-based IMC prototype chips. Across these various DNNs and IMC chip measurements, we show that our proposed hardware noise-aware DNN training consistently improves DNN inference accuracy for actual IMC hardware, up to 8% accuracy improvement for the CIFAR-10 dataset. We also analyze the impact of our proposed noise injection scheme on the adversarial robustness of ResNet-18 DNNs with 1-bit, 2-bit, and 4-bit activation/weight precision. Our results show up to 6% improvement in the robustness to black-box adversarial input attacks.

Abstract The influences of mixing parameters on the carbon black dispersion can be characterized using the electrical conductivity online measured from internal mixer. As a measure for monitoring the development of carbon black dispersion, a normalized conductivity with regard to the conductivity measured at the BIT (black incorporation time) has been suggested. It is observed that in spite of different mixing parameters, the mixtures possessing the same normalized conductivity factor K/KBIT deliver the same carbon black dispersion and the same mechanical properties. Based on normalized conductivity, a deeper insight into the mixing kinetics can be provided to find an optimal mixing regime.

This research addresses the implementation of encryption and digital signature technique for electronic health record to prevent cybercrime such as robbery, modification and unauthorised access. In this research, RSA 2048-bit algorithm, AES 256-bit and SHA 256 will be implemented in Java programming language. Secure Electronic Health Record Information (SEHR) application design is intended to combine given services, such as confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and nonrepudiation. Cryptography is used to ensure the file records and electronic documents for detailed information on the medical past, present and future forecasts that have been given only to the intended patients. The document will be encrypted using an encryption algorithm based on NIST Standard. In the application, there are two schemes, namely the protection and verification scheme. This research uses black-box testing and whitebox testing to test the software input, output, and code without testing the process and design that occurs in the system.We demonstrated the implementation of cryptography in SEHR. The implementation of encryption and digital signature in this research can prevent archive thievery.

Coming-out stories are important cultural texts wherein individuals articulate and interpret experiences of identifying as sexual minorities. Yet, much of the extant literature on coming-out stories examines narratives by white, middle-class gay men and lesbians. Critical inquiry into coming-out stories told by privileged queer subjects points to the formulaic and normative characteristics of their narratives, where sexual difference is downplayed or challenged. The goal of this article, then, is to ask whether and how coming-out narratives told by queer Black women conform to or depart from the “coming-out formula story.” Using an intersectional approach to narrative analysis, this article investigates the performative and discursive strategies that 50 women use in telling their coming-out stories on YouTube. Findings show that queer Black women’s use of intimate candor—the performative and discursive strategy of publicly revealing interior, often sexually explicit, aspects of the self—is a means through which women center desire and queerness; articulate a vision of queer Black womanhood; and complicate the coming-out formula.

Bit-plane complexity segmentation (BPCS) steganography is advantageous in its capacity and imperceptibility. The important step of BPCS steganography is how to locate noisy regions in a cover image exactly. The regular method, black-and-white border complexity, is a simple and easy way, but it is not always useful, especially for periodical patterns. Run-length irregularity and border noisiness are introduced in this paper to work out this problem. Canonical Cray coding (CGC) is also used to replace pure binary coding (PBC), because CGC makes use of characteristic of human vision system. Conjugation operation is applied to convert simple blocks into complex ones. In order to contradict BPCS steganalysis, improved BPCS steganography algorithm adopted different bit-planes with different complexity. The higher the bit-plane is, the smaller the complexity is. It is proven that the improved BPCS steganography is superior to BPCS steganography by experiment.

In times of land use changes towards more close-to-nature forestry, the application of bioindicators becomes an interesting tool for effective land-use management schemes. Forest managers are increasingly confronted by alien tree species. Therefore, this case study aimed to investigate the influence of the invasive black cherry (Prunus serotina) on bats (Chiroptera: Verpertilionidae) in pine (Pinus sylvestris) forest ecosystems, in order to identify the potential of bats as bioindicators for a black cherry invasion. In three pre-classified succession stages of the black cherry, the diversity and relative abundance of bats were bioacoustically monitored for a period of 60 nights. From the bat call recordings made during the study period, eight bat species could be identified to species level. Within the succession stages of pine monoculture and light black cherry forest, a comparable bat diversity of eight bat species and three sonotypes with a similar relative abundance were observed. In dense black cherry forest, only four species and one sonotype were detected. Compared to the pine monoculture and light black cherry forest, the overall abundance of the bat community was significantly lower in the dense black cherry forest. Upon evaluation, those bat species associated with the edge and narrow space forager guilds were found to have a high sensitivity to a dense black cherry understory within naturally monocultural pine stands. Their activity patterns indicate that the transition from light to dense black cherry understory can be considered as a potential threshold value for a close-to-nature black cherry understory density in high canopy pine forest stands.

Rather than tiling the black hole horizon by Planck area patches, we suggest that bits of information inhabit, universally and holographically, the entire black core interior, a bit per a light sheet unit interval of order Planck area difference. The number of distinguishable (tagged by a binary code) configurations, counted within the context of a discrete holographic shell model, is given by the Catalan series. The area entropy formula is recovered, including Cardy's universal logarithmic correction, and the equipartition of mass per degree of freedom is proven. The black hole information storage resembles, in the count procedure, the so-called stack data structure.

Abstract Thirty-seven plant organs, traditionally used as drugs, collected in Pakistan, were extracted with 70% acetone and analyzed for their total phenolics concentration and antioxidant potential. Seven extracts showed more than 85% inhibition of lipid peroxidation in vitro as compared with blank. Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) (IC50 = 233.6 μg / 1 ± 28.3) was the strongest antioxidant in our test system. The IC50 results indicate that the extracts of Nymphaea lotus L. flowers, Acacia nilotica (Linn.) Delile beans, Terminalia belerica Roxb. fruits, and Terminalia chebula Retz. (fruits, brown) were stronger antioxidants than a-tocopherol, while Terminalia chebula Retz. (fruit coat), Terminalia chebula Retz. (fruits, black) and Ricinus communis L. leaves were weaker antioxidant extracts than a-tocopherol and BHT. Total phenolics concentration, expressed as gallic acid equivalents, showed close correlation with the antioxidant activity. High performance liquid chromatographic analysis with diode array detection at 280 nm, of the seven extracts indicated the presence of hydroxybenzoic acid derivatives, hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, flavonol aglycones and their glycosides as main phenolics compounds. This information, based on quick screening methods, enables us to proceed towards more detailed chemical and pharmacological understanding of these plant materials.

Our theoretical and methodological approach offers a pathway for education and research communities to account for the expansive possibilities that black feminism has for theorizing the lives of black women.

It is interesting to note that the infiltration and dispersion processes take place sequentially in the blend phases, which can be well characterized by analyzing the online conductance-time characteristics. A method for the estimation of the phase specific CB distribution in the blend was proposed by taking into consideration the online conductance values measured at the black incorporation time (BIT) of the blend components.

The graph exploration problem is to visit all the nodes of a connected graph by a mobile entity, e.g., a robot. The robot has no a priori knowledge of the topology of the graph or of its size. Cohen et al. [3] introduced label guided graph exploration which allows the system designer to add short labels to the graph nodes in a preprocessing stage; these labels can guide the robot in the exploration of the graph. In this paper, we address the problem of adjustable 1-bit label guided graph exploration. We focus on the labeling schemes that not only enable a robot to explore the graph but also allow the system designer to adjust the ratio of the number of different labels. This flexibility is necessary when maintaining different labels may have different costs or when the ratio is pre-specified. We present 1-bit labeling (two colors, namely black and white) schemes for this problem along with a labeling algorithm for generating the required labels. Given an n-node graph and a rational number ρ, we can design a 1-bit labeling scheme such that n/b ≥ ρ where b is the number of nodes labeled black. The robot uses O(ρ log Δ) bits of memory for exploring all graphs of maximum degree Δ. The exploration is completed in time [Formula: see text]. Moreover, our labeling scheme can work on graphs containing loops and multiple edges, while that of Cohen et al. focuses on simple graphs.

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is a practical alternative to dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) for determining body composition in children. Currently, there are no population specific equations available for predicting fat-free mass (FFM) in South African populations. We determined agreement between fat-free mass measured by DXA (FFMDXA) and FFM calculated from published multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance prediction equations (FFMBIA); and developed a new equation for predicting FFM for preadolescent black South African children. Cross-sectional data on a convenience sample of 84 children (mean age 8.5 ± 1.4 years; 44 {52%} girls) included body composition assessed using Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (FFMDXA) and impedance values obtained from the Seca mBCA 514 Medical Body Composition analyzer used to calculate FFM using 17 published prediction equations (FFMBIA). Only two equations yielded FFM estimates that were similar to the DXA readings (p > 0.05). According to the Bland–Altman analysis, the mean differences in FFM (kg) were 0.15 (LOA: −2.68; 2.37) and 0.01 (LOA: −2.68; 2.66). Our new prediction equation, F F M = 105.20 + 0.807 × S e x + 0.174 × W e i g h t + 0.01 × R e a c t a n c e + 15.71 × log ( R I ) , yielded an adjusted R2 = 0.9544. No statistical shrinkage was observed during cross-validation. A new equation enables the BIA-based prediction of FFM in the assessment of preadolescent black South African children.

Abstract The effects of size on the performance of three-cone bits were measured during laboratory drilling tests in shale at simulated downhole conditions. Four Reed HP-SM three-cone bits with diameters of 6, 7 7/8, 9, and 11 in. [165, 200, 241, and 279 mm] were used to drill Mancos shale with water-based mud. The tests were conducted at constant borehole pressure, two conditions of hydraulic horsepower per square inch of bit area, three conditions of rotary speed, and four conditions of weight-on-bit (WOB) per inch of bit diameter. The resulting rates of penetration (ROP's) and torques were measured. penetration (ROP's) and torques were measured. Statistical techniques were used to analyze the data. Introduction Drill bit manufacturers generally recommend WOB operating ranges for their bits in terms of pounds-force per inch of bit diameter. A better understanding of the effects of size on bit performance and the validity of the WOB per inch of bit performance and the validity of the WOB per inch of bit diameter rule of thumb was sought by performing drilling tests with various-size bits under controlled laboratory conditions. Drilling tests were performed with four Reed HP-SM three-cone bits with diameters of 6, 7 7/8, 9, and 11 in. [165, 200, 241, and 279 mm]. As many variables as possible were held constant during the drilling tests, including rock type; confining pressure and overburden stress on the rock; mud type, properties, and temperature; and borehole pressure. Nozzle sizes and flow rates were selected so that each bit was tested at approximately the same conditions of hydraulic horsepower per square inch of bit area. Three rotary-speed conditions per square inch of bit area. Three rotary-speed conditions and four WOB per inch of diameter conditions were run. The resulting ROP's and torques were measured at each condition. A detailed statistical analysis was performed on me dam to determine the relationship between the independent variables of bit size, WOB, rotary speed, and hydraulic horsepower per square inch of bit area and the dependent variables of ROP, torque, and mechanical horsepower expended at the bit. Drill Bit, Rock, Mud, and Nozzle Selection Four new Reed HP-SM bits with diameters of 6, 7 7/8, 9, and 11 in. [165, 200, 241, and 279 mm] were provided by Reed Rock Bit Co. for the tests. The manufacturer's recommended operating ranges for WOB per inch of bit diameter and rotary speed are 3,000 to 6,000 lbf [525 to 1051 N/mm] per inch of bit diameter and 45 to 140 rev/min, respectively. Fig. 1 is a photograph of the HP-SM bits. The number of inserts, average insert diameter, and average insert length were measured and are listed in Table 1. The rock formation samples drilled were Mancos shale. Mancos shale is a Cretaceous, gray to black, shale/siltstone formation containing 10% clay composed of illite and chlorite. Samples 15 in. [394 mm] in diameter by 36 in. [914 mm] long were used for the 6–, 7 7/8–, and 9-in.- [165–, 200–, and 241-mm]-diameter bit tests. A sample 17 in. [445 mm] in diameter by 36 in. [914 mm] long was used for the 11-in.–[279-mm]-diameter bit test. All samples were originally cored from a massive surface outcropping located in central Utah and preserved for the drilling tests. Mancos shale has an unconfined compressive strength of 9,000 psi [62 053 kPa] and a permeability less than 1 d. Detailed rock properties permeability less than 1 d. Detailed rock properties and a comparison of laboratory and field shale drilling have been given previously. A "standard" water-based mud with properties listed in Table 2 was selected for the tests. To compare the performance of different-size bits, it was felt that hydraulic horsepower per square inch of bit area (HSI) should be held constant during the tests. It was also felt that similar pressure drops across the bit should be run if possible. ContextMangroves and intertidal habitats have been identified as particularly challenging environments for bait application within both tropical and temperate environments, because bait applied to areas that are tidally inundated could degrade rapidly or become inaccessible to rats. AimsTo determine rat density, ranging behaviour and probability of detection using different monitoring devices; additionally, to determine the availability (persistence, durability and uptake) of rodenticide baits within tidally inundated mangrove habitats. MethodsThe population biology of black rats (Rattus rattus) was studied in two contrasting mangrove habitats on Europa Island, and spatially explicit mark–recapture studies were performed to estimate densities and activity of rats. A series of bait availability trials was conducted to determine the durability of rodenticide baits on the ground and uptake in the canopy (‘bait bolas’). Key resultsBlack rats were found to be abundant in mangrove, and despite daily tidal inundation, still maintained ranging behaviour consistent with rats in adjacent terrestrial habitats. Larger rodenticide bait blocks remained within tidally inundated habitat throughout tidal cycles and were available and remained palatable to rats for at least three consecutive nights, although strong bait competition occurred with crabs. Bait bolas were available in mangrove canopy exclusively to rats and consumption commenced on the first night. ConclusionsThe results provide evidence that mangrove habitats are an important habitat for rats, but the biology of rats in these habitats does not meaningfully differ from adjacent terrestrial habitats. With the use of larger rodenticide blocks, tidal inundation does not affect bait availability, but crabs remain a major competitor for these baits. Alternatively, the present study revealed that bait bolas limit bait access to rats alone. Development as an aerial eradication technology should be also recommended. ImplicationsThese results provide a proof of concept that eradication of rats from tidally inundated habitats such as mangrove should be possible with only small modifications to current best practice.

Abstract There is no scientific evidence in the literature indicating that maximal isometric strength measures can be assessed within 3 trials. We questioned whether the results of isometric squat-related studies in which maximal isometric squat strength (MISS) testing was performed using limited numbers of trials without pre-familiarization might have included systematic errors, especially those resulting from acute learning effects. Forty resistance-trained male participants performed 8 isometric squat trials without pre-familiarization. The highest measures in the first “n” trials (3 ≤ n ≤ 8) of these 8 squats were regarded as MISS obtained using 6 different MISS test methods featuring different numbers of trials (The Best of n Trials Method [BnT]). When B3T and B8T were paired with other methods, high reliability was found between the paired methods in terms of intraclass correlation coefficients (0.93-0.98) and coefficients of variation (3.4-7.0%). The Wilcoxon’s signed rank test indicated that MISS obtained using B3T and B8T were lower (p < 0.001) and higher (p < 0.001), respectively, than those obtained using other methods. The Bland- Altman method revealed a lack of agreement between any of the paired methods. Simulation studies illustrated that increasing the number of trials to 9-10 using a relatively large sample size (i.e., ≥ 24) could be an effective means of obtaining the actual MISS values of the participants. The common use of a limited number of trials in MISS tests without pre-familiarization appears to have no solid scientific base. Our findings suggest that the number of trials should be increased in commonly used MISS tests to avoid learning effect-related systematic errors

This essay argues for a productive alliance between trans feminism, trans studies, and black feminist thought (BFT) to articulate a black feminist mode of activism that takes seriously the epistemologies of black trans women. Ultimately this essay critiques BFT's cisgender normativity and offers a more inclusive imagining of BFT, referred to as blacktransfeminist thought (BTFT). To illustrate the scholarly significance of BTFT, I draw upon the ontological invalidation of black trans lives in the #BlackLivesMatter movement. #BlackLivesMatter is situated as (1) an exemplar of how black transgender women are commonly excluded from activist discourses, and (2) an opportunity to theorize the utility of BTFT as it relates to racialized gender variant lives and deaths.

In this paper, we consider Klein–Gordon particle near Reissner–Nordström black hole. The symmetry of such a background led us to compare the corresponding Laplace equation with the generalized Heun functions. Such relations help us achieve the generalized [Formula: see text] algebra and some suitable results for describing the above-mentioned symmetry. On the other hand, in case of [Formula: see text], which is near the proximity black hole, we obtain the energy spectrum. When we compare the equation of RN background with Laguerre differential equation, we show that the obtained energy spectrum is same as the three-dimensional harmonic oscillator. So, finally we take advantage of harmonic oscillator energy and make suitable partition function. Such function help us to obtain all thermodynamical properties of black hole. Also, the structure of obtained entropy lead us to have some bit and information theory in the RN black hole.

As an attempt to realize Wheeler’s “it-from-bit proposal” that physics should be reduced to simple yes–no questions, we consider a model of loop quantum gravity, where the only allowed values of the quantum numbers [Formula: see text] at the punctures [Formula: see text] of the spin network on the spacelike two surfaces of spacetime are [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text], the puncture is in the vacuum, and it does not contribute to the area of the two surface, whereas when [Formula: see text], the puncture is in an excited state, and the allowed values of the associated quantum number [Formula: see text] are [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text]. As a consequence, the spin network used as a model of spacetime is analogous to a system of particles with spin [Formula: see text], and every puncture carries exactly one bit of information. When applied to spacetimes with horizon, our model enables us to find an explicit expression for the partition function of spacetime. Using this partition function we may, among other things, obtain the Bekenstein–Hawking entropy law for black holes. When applied to cosmological models with horizon, the partition function predicts a cosmic phase transition in the early universe, where the cosmological constant went through a dramatic decrease and the matter of the universe was created out of the vacuum.

Abstract Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) have been prepared from liquefied wood (Wliq) by chemical activation with KOH, with a particular focus on the effect of KOH/fiber ratio in term of porous texture and surface chemistry. ACFs based on steam activation served as a blank for comparison. The properties of the ACFs were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption/desorption, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results show that the KOH-activated ACFs have rougher surfaces and more amorphous structure compared with the blank. The pore development was significant when the KOH/fiber ratio reached 3, and achieved a maximum Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area of 1371 m2 g-1 and total pore volume (Vtot) of 0.777 cm3 g-1, of which 45.3% belong to mesopores with diameters of 2–4 nm, while the blank activated at the same temperature had a BET surface of 1250 m2 g-1 and Vtot of 0.644 cm3 g-1, which are mainly micropores. The surface functional groups are closely associated with the KOH/fiber ratios. KOH-activated ACFs with KOH/fiber ratio of 3 have more oxygenated surface functional groups (C-O, C=O, -COOH) than the blank.

The distribution and population size of Hieracium stenolepiforme (Pugsley) P. D. Sell & C. West, Cheddar Hawkweed (Asteraceae) has been assessed. It is endemic to Cheddar Gorge and the adjacent Black Rock Nature Reserve, Somerset, England (vice-county 6, North Somerset). Historical records show that it has been recorded in Cheddar Gorge and at Black Rock but has declined. On 11 June 2000, 52 plants were counted in the main gorge and 5 plants at Black Rock; on 14 June 2016, 59 plants were recorded in Cheddar Gorge but none at Black Rock. Hieracium stenolepiforme is IUCN (2001) threat status ‘Critically Endangered’.

Fluorometric detection of analytes using batch injection analysis (BIA) has been investigated. BIA involves the injection of microliter samples toward a nearby detector which is immersed in a large-volume, nonflowing, blank solution. The characteristics and advantages of employing fiber-optic fluorometric detection for BIA are described. Similar to analogous flow injection measurements, batch injection fluorometric analysis offers high speed, reproducibility and simplicity, while eliminating the need for pumps, valves, and associated tubings. With injection rates at 120–500 samples/h, there is no observable carryover, and the precision is typically 2–3% (RSD).
