Ferroelectric materials are key to many modem technologies, in particular piezoelectric actuators and electro-optic modulators. BaTiO₃ is one of the most extensively studied ferroelectric materials. The use of BaTiO₃ for piezoelectric applications is, however, limited due to the small piezoelectric coefficient of the room temperature-stable tetragonal phase. Furthermore, research on BaTiO₃ for integrated optics applications remains sparse. In this work Zr-, Hf-, and KNb- doped BaTiO₃ materials were prepared in a composition range that stabilizes the rhombohedral phase. These materials were prepared as bulk polycrystals using a standard solid-state reaction technique in order to test the piezoelectric and dielectric properties. Some compositions were then chosen for thin film deposition. The films were deposited using pulsed laser deposition on MgO and SOI substrates. Growth orientation, remnant strain and optical properties were then measured. X-ray diffraction was used to confirm the existence of a stable rhombohedral phase. Dielectric measurements confirmed the expected phase transition temperatures. A piezoelectric coefficient of d₃₃=290-470pc/N was measured for Zr- and Hf- doped BaTiO₃, compared with d₃₃=75pC/N for pure BaTiO₃. The electrostrictive coefficient of the KNb-doped material, was measured as Q33=0.37m⁴/C², compared with Q33=0.11m⁴/C² for pure BaTiO₃. The maximum strain measured for the doped samples was 5-10 times higher then that of pure BaTiO₃. The effect of growth conditions on the orientation and strain of BaTiO₃ thin films was studied. As the substrate temperature and laser fluency were increased the film orientation varied from (111) to (110), then to (100). Zr- and Hf- doping helped lower the forming temperature for the
(cont.) orientations. The index of refraction for the thin films was measured and a model based on the Clausius-Mossotti relation was used to explain the data. The refractive index for BaTiO₃ films was extracted from the model, giving n=2.334 and n,=2.163.

Повний текст джерелаMagnetoelectric multiferroics are of particular interest in the field of spintronics, especially for the possible control of the magnetization using an electric field. The lack of intrinsic multiferroics can be circumvented by using artificial multiferroics, made with individual ferroelectric and magnetic phases. Although they may exhibit higher coupling values, the precise coupling mechanisms involved are still not well understood. Getting insights in the understanding of these phenomena requires studying well mastered and crystallized samples. The combination of BaTiO₃ thin films (3 to 20nm), the prototypical ferroelectric, and of CoFe₂O₄ ones, a highly magnetostrictive ferromagnet with a high Curie temperature, constitutes a suitable model system well suited for such a study. In this thesis, we realized CoFe₂O₄ / BaTiO₃ thin films of high crystalline quality by oxygen plasma assisted molecular beam epitaxy on a SrTiO₃ (001) substrates. First, we study independently for each phase the individual properties of chemistry, structure, magnetism and ferroelectricity, using in particular a range of synchrotron techniques. Based on those fundamental results, we set up direct and indirect magnetoelectric coupling experiments, where we apply an electric polarization to measure a change in magnetization, and vice versa. We manage to observe the magnetoelectric coupling, mainly through the strong interaction of the CoFe₂O₄ and BaTiO₃ films. The indirect mechanisms dominate however and involve structural as well as chemical modifications through ion displacement. Those ion displacements create reversible changes in resistance at room temperature. These results imply that, in addition to the evidenced multiferroic properties, the system makes also promise for resistive RAM devices applications

Повний текст джерелаPhoto(electro)catalysis, which can directly harvest energy from solar illumination and convert it into chemical energy, has brought light to the depletion of fossil fuels and concerns about environmental issues. Significant attention has been dedicated to promoting charge separation and transport dynamics to enhance solar energy conversion to reach the requirements for practical applications. Ferroelectric and piezoelectric polarization that can trigger spatial charge redistribution and promote bulk or surface charge-carrier separation has been demonstrated as a promising strategy for designing highly efficient photocatalytic systems. In this PhD project, BaTiO₃ (BTO) has been selected as a typical ferroelectric semiconductor, with its ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties being employed to enhance directional charge carrier transfer and lifetime, explored through PEC water oxidation and Rhodamine B (RhB) degradation, respectively. More specifically, the principles and applications of piezo/ferroelectric-assisted photo(electro)catalysis were thoroughly discussed. We then developed core-shell BTO/TiO₂ nanostructures, deposited with Ni(OH)₂ oxygen evolution cocatalysts (OEC), as photoanodes for photoelectrochemical water oxidation. The relationship between ferroelectric polarization and charge separation and transport of TiO₂ was investigated by BTO crystalline phases and external electric fields. In addition, the role of piezoelectric polarization delivered by BTO in charge transport dynamics during the photocatalytic process was explored through the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB), and was further discussed in detail based on the insights drawn from experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations

Повний текст джерелаThis work is concerned with the study of lead-free ferroelectric ceramics. The investigated materials are Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 - BaTiO3 (NBT-BT), Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 - SrTiO3 (NBT-ST) and Na0,5Bi0,5TiO3 - CaTiO3 (NBT-CT) solid solutions prepared by the conventional ceramic method. The room temperature solubility ranges were determined by XRD. From the results of dielectric measurements as a function temperature and frequency, several behaviours were obtained dependent on the composition. The main feature is the occurrence of a relaxor-type behaviour the origin of which being due to the cationic disorder provoked by the substitutions. A diagram of electrical states was proposed for the NBT-BTand NBT-ST systems. The values of the piezoelectric coefficients are likely to predict that some compositions would be used in electromechanical devices as lead-free components

Повний текст джерелаThe dispersibility of carbon nanotube (CNT) in polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is always a big challenge for the high dielectric property. Barium titanate (BT)-CNT hybrids with the special structure are proved to be effective for improving the dispersion of CNT in the polymer matrix and reduce the percolation threshold of the composite. This thesis aims to achieve high dielectric performance of composites via designing fillers with the favorable structure as well as comprehensively study the interaction between CNT and semi-crystalline polymer matrix.In chapter 1, we provide a general introduction about dielectric material's background knowledge. Meanwhile the development including recent breakthroughs and their applications for the dielectric field are also provided in this chapter.In chapter 2, we prepare two hybrids with different structures. The first hybrids are prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. It is with the structure of BT as a core and CNTs growing outsides (H-CNT-BT). The second hybrids are prepared by hydrothermal reaction where BT particles coats outside CNT (H-BT-CNT). Meanwhile, we fabricate hybrids reinforced PVDF matrix composites by solution casting plus extrusion-injection way. Additionally, methods for characterization involving morphology, thermal and dielectric properties as well as crystallization are also introduced in this chapter.In chapter 3, the dielectric behaviors of H-CNT-BT/PVDF are studied concretely. A dramatic increment on dielectric permittivity is observed after the thermal treatment. This change may result from the reformation of CNT's conductive network and the behavior of PVDF's re-crystallization. By modeling work and experimental characterization, the shrinkage of the neighboring CNT's distance in PVDF's amorphous layers and the induced β polymorph at the CNT-PVDF interface may cause the significant increment in dielectric permittivity after the thermal treatment.In chapter 4, the CNT's dispersibility in PVDF matrix composites is studied by designing different structures. Firstly, a comparison between calculated and experimental percolation threshold of H-CNT-BT/PVDF is conducted for studying the morphology parameters of H-CNT-BT. Afterwards, two comparisons are conducted: one is between H-CNT-BT/PVDF and CNT/PVDF. The processing factors for the CNT's dispersibility are discussed via measuring the different layer's AC conductivity. The other is among three hybrids reinforced PVDF composites. The hybrids structure's effect the CNT's dispersibility is discussed via comparing the dielectric property of the composites with the same volume fraction of CNT and BT but different structures.In chapter 5, a general conclusion is formed according to the works and the perspective is provided for the improvement of the future work

Neste trabalho foram realizados cálculos mecânico-quânticos periódicos, efetuados em nível ab initio e utilizando-se a teoria do funcional da densidade, combinada com dois diferentes funcionais híbridos: B3LYP e B3PW para dois tipos de peroviskitas de grande interesse tecnológico: BaZrO.3 e BaTiO.3. A simulação de modelos periódicos foi empregada para fazer um estudo sistemático das propriedades estruturais, eletrônicas e mecânicas com a finalidade de validar a metodologia aplicada, assim como o modelo proposto que inclui o nível de teoria aplicado e o conjunto de funções de base que descrevem matematicamente através de funções os orbitais atômicos. Com o objetivo de confrontar os resultados obtidos a partir da implementação do modelo com outros estudos teóricos e experimentais, foram analisadas as densidades de estados, estrutura de bandas e diagrama de energia. Esse estudo teórico possibilitou a identificação dos átomos que mais contribuem para as bandas de energia e também as energias na região entre os limites superiores da banda de valência e inferiores da banda de condução.
We used quantum-mechanical calculations at the Density Functional Theory level, applying periodical models with the B3LYP and B3PW methods to study two systems of technological interest: BaZrO.3 e BaTiO.3. The simulation of periodical models was used to perform a systematical study of the structural, electronic and mechanical properties of those materials with the aim to validate the applied methodology, the proposed model, the level of theory and the base functions that described the atomic orbital mathematically. The objective was to compare the results obtained using the methodology of the present work with the others methodologies utilized in another experimental as theoretical studies. We analyzed the density of states and the band structures and compared with results of others methodologies of study. From the results obtained in the present work could identify whose atoms can make the major contribution to the energy bands near the Fermi level and close to conduction band.

Повний текст джерелаPlanar BaTi1-xZrxO3 ceramic composites had their functional properties investigated. These composites were obtained by the conventional ceramic processing technique and by tape casting technique. Furthermore, BaTi1-xZrxO3 x=0, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 were synthesized by the polymeric precursors method and by the hydrothermal synthesis to study the synthesis influences and to study the effect of Zr4+ on the functional properties of the composites. Structural characterization (X-Ray powder diffraction and Raman spectroscopy), compositional analysis (energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy), microestrutural evaluation (scanning electron microscopy, dilatometry measurements) and functional properties characterization (electrical permittivity, piezoelectric coefficient d33, pyroelectric coefficient and ferroelectric hysteresis) were performed. Furthermore, the composites electrical permittivity was predicted by the simple mixture and the internal mechanical stress distribution and it´s effects on both, electrical permittivity and Curie´s temperature (Tc) of BaTiO3 polycrystals, were simulated. The analyses and discussions were supported by 1- Devonshire´s phenomenological theory, 2- Forsbergh´s modification to Devonshire´s theory to include the two-dimensional stress effects on Tc and 3- Buessem´s BaTiO3 tetragonal polycrystal model. The results show that the sintered composites present two-dimensional residual stresses after cooling due to the constrained sintering of the layers and their thermal expansion coefficient mismatch. The methods of sample preparation led to differences in grain size and interface thickness, with the homogeneous ceramic tapes presenting smaller grain sizes and thinner thickness than the conventional homogeneous ceramics. On the other hand, the composites showed a Tc shift to higher temperatures, a more diffuse phase transition and residual mechanical stresses. Concluding, the Zr4+ substitution of Ti4+ modifies the layer´s sintering behavior and their thermal expansion coefficient. These changes lead to microstructure modifications that affect the functional properties of planar BaTi1-xZrxO3 composites. Thus, the design of ferroelectric composites should take into consideration the correlations between microstructure and residual stresses in order to optimize their functional properties.

Повний текст джерелаresultados en el primer sistema estudiado (BT) es el descubrimiento de un nuevo fenómeno en materiales dopados con iones aceptores relacionado con la respuesta no-óhmica de su resistencia al aplicar un pequeño voltaje dc, tanto de la frontera como del interior de grano, lo que los hace prometedores para aplicaciones tales como dispositivos de memoria (similares a los memristores), de protección o sensores. Respecto al segundo sistema estudiado (TTB), el principal resultado fue la inusual histéresis térmica en la transición ferroeléctrica y la gran diferencia entre la temperatura de transición y la temperatura de Curie-Weiss. En todos los materiales se ha analizado en detalle la relación
existente entre estructura, composición y propiedad.

Entre los distritos de panamá y san miguelito existe una población de aproximadamente 140,000 personas que cuentan con muy pocas alternativas para divertirse y compartir en familia. En estas mismas áreas existen alrededor de 7 ligas de béisbol infantil (aproximadamente 2,800 peloteros) quienes entrenan en condiciones limitadas (iluminación, lluvia, estado del terreno) y bajo técnicas de entrenamiento no acorde con las que se practican en los países de alta competición internacional como EEUU, México entre otros. De acuerdo a una entrevista “in situ” luego de una prueba piloto realizada en la ciudad de Panamá, el 96% de los encuestados estuvieron de acuerdo que en la ciudad no existen suficientes centros de entretenimiento deportivo donde compartir con la familia. Salas de cine, bolos y salas de video juegos son las principales opciones que tienen los panameños de este sector, mientras que los competidores ofrecen para los deportistas un servicio estándar y en muchos casos deficiente. De esta manera nace la idea de La Jaula de Bateo, que busca ofrecer una propuesta de valor ofreciendo diversión para toda la familia, en un ambiente único por la pasión del béisbol. La Jaula de Bateo busca integrarse con ligas y academias de Béisbol a fin de generar alianzas a largo plazo que garanticen ingresos recurrentes dentro de este segmento. El conocimiento del mercado se basó en entrevistas a personalidades referentes al deporte, prueba piloto realizadas en centro comercial y encuestas realizadas en situ, con el objetivo de identificar las necesidades que cuenta este mercado deportivo lo cual nos ayudó a formalizar la propuesta. Como objetivo principal La Jaula de Bateo busca posicionarse como marca referente al Béisbol, y como pioneros en el mercado. Para lograr esto la Jaula de Bateo se ha propuesto una estrategia competitiva ofrecer un servicio personalizado; especialmente para el segmento Deportivo a fin de crear un vínculo de largo plazo, y un ambiente familiar, donde todo el grupo pueda compartir y pasar un rato único y divertido.

Повний текст джерелаThe present research work was developed in order to validate the viability of the outsourcing manufacture and marketing of healthy shakes with the Wawa Shake brand, wich is an alternative of healthy food to prevent obesity in kids and adults, as well as for people who have celiac disease and is intolerant to lactose. It should be noted that this project is based on research carried out in the market segment, where it is identified a target of 38, 527 consumers willing to buy Wawa Shake healthy shakes with a frequency of 1 to 3 times per month. Therefore, to meet market demand, distribution is planned through the direct and indirect channel. Likewise, the production process of the shakes will be carried out according to the guidelines of the Food Safety Norm ISO 22000 to guarantee the quality of the product. On the other hand, the viability and profitability of the five-year project is based on the result of the net present value which is 148,636 soles, which indicates that the future projected financial flows that have been discounted with the COK rate, brought to the present year, they generate a profitability of S /. 148, 636 soles for shareholders and a 50% internal rate of return that is greater than 12.62%, which is the opportunity cost for shareholder.

Повний текст джерелаBaTiO3 is a lead-free ferroelectric oxide material. BaTiO3 thin films have been widely studied for memory applications due to its charge memory effect resulting from its ferroelectric nature. Nowadays, the scientific community has renewed its interest on BaTiO3, because it holds characteristics that is interesting for rapidly developing areas such as photovoltaics, photoelectric sensing and photocatalysis. The main goal of the present thesis is to study the photoelectric effects on BaTiO3 thin films and to give light on the relevant mechanisms that control them. Ferroelectric materials show intrinsic, unavoidable and exclusive internal electric fields: imprint electric field (Eimp) and depolarization electric field (Edep). Thus distinct photoelectric effects can be obtained due to Eimp and Edep. In the present thesis we have studied in detail the role of Eimp and Edep on photoelectric effects of BaTiO3 films. In particular, it is shown that appropriate measurement configuration can be used to disclose and isolate their contribution. As a result, different transient and constant photoresponses can be obtained as wish. By the same token, their contribution to the ferroelectric switching dynamics are also analyzed. The transient photoresponse finds its origin on the screening of surface charge (photoscreening). In order to modulate its magnitude detailed characterization has been performed. It is concluded that the polarization photoscreening is governed by the presence of water adsorbed at the surface, allowing it to be controlled. However, the photoelectric efficiency has been found to be limited by the low generation of carriers by light, that is the reason why the effect of O substituted by N in BaTiO3 lattice, which should result in band-gap narrowing, hence improving the photoelectric efficiency, has been studied. Interestingly, it is found that ammonia treatments are efficient to improve photoelectric responses, without having any clear evidence of N substitution.
