The purpose of this study was to analyze the attachment of economic activity in social networks among entrepreneurs in Cirebon, West Java, Indonesia. This research was conducted in Cirebon Regency, for a period of 6 months, from May to October 2019. This research method uses a qualitative approach. The results of the study found that: first, local entrepreneurs (genuine) in the rattan business sector have been running for a very long time. Second, as a result of historical formation, there is a wide network both between entrepreneurs and between entrepreneurs with certain institutions and community structures. Thrid, the map of economic network attachment in social networks shows the diversity of attachments between economic networks and social networks.

The current article focuses on attachment style—an individual difference widely studied in the field of close relationships—and its application to the study of social networks. Specifically, we investigated whether attachment style predicts perception and management of social networks. In Study 1, we examined the associations of attachment style with perceptions of network tie strength and multiplexity. In Studies 2a and 2b, we investigated the association between attachment style and network management skills (initiating, maintaining, and dissolving ties) and whether network management skills mediated the associations of attachment style with network tie strength and multiplexity. In Study 3, experimentally enhancing attachment security made people more likely to initiate and less likely to dissolve social ties (for the latter, especially among those high on avoidance or anxiety). As for maintenance, security priming also increased maintenance; however, mainly among people high on attachment anxiety or low on attachment avoidance.

Abstract This study analyzes the network evolution, specifically that of the Brazilian film network. It examines two generative mechanisms that lie behind the network evolution: preferential attachment and fitness. The starting point is that preferential attachment and fitness may compete to shape the network evolution. We built a novel dataset with 974 Brazilian feature films released between 1995 and 2017 and used PAFit, a brand-new statistical method, to estimate the joint effects of preferential attachment and fitness on the evolution of the Brazilian film network. This study concludes that the network evolution is shaped by both preferential attachment and fitness. However, in the presence of fitness, the effects of preferential attachment on the network evolution become weaker. This means that the node ability to form ties in the Brazilian film network is mainly explained by its fitness. Besides, the preferential attachment assumes a sub-linear form. Costs, communication and managerial capabilities, and node age explain why nodes are unable to accumulate ties at rates proportional to their degree. Finally, preferential attachment and fitness manifest themselves heterogeneously, depending on either the type or the duration of the network. Preferential attachment drives the cast network evolution, whereas fitness is the main generative mechanism of the crew network. Actors and actresses rely on their status, privilege, and power to obtain future contracts (preferential attachment), whereas technical members are selected on the basis of their talent, skills, and knowledge (fitness). Due to node age or exit, preferential attachment becomes stronger in shorter networks.

Recent work investigating the development of the phonological lexicon, where edges between words represent phonological similarity, have suggested that phonological network growth may be partly driven by a process that favors the acquisition of new words that are phonologically similar to several existing words in the lexicon. To explore this growth mechanism, we conducted a simulation study to examine the properties of networks grown by inverse preferential attachment, where new nodes added to the network tend to connect to existing nodes with fewer edges. Specifically, we analyzed the network structure and degree distributions of artificial networks generated via either preferential attachment, an inverse variant of preferential attachment, or combinations of both network growth mechanisms. The simulations showed that network growth initially driven by preferential attachment followed by inverse preferential attachment led to densely-connected network structures (i.e., smaller diameters and average shortest path lengths), as well as degree distributions that could be characterized by non-power law distributions, analogous to the features of real-world phonological networks. These results provide converging evidence that inverse preferential attachment may play a role in the development of the phonological lexicon and reflect processing costs associated with a mature lexicon structure.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to ascertain the effects of structural and bonding attachment on brand loyalty. The authors identified network quality, network coverage and mobile number portability (MNP) as structural elements of attachment that affect brand loyalty. Similarly, the authors identify brand trust and social interaction ties as elements of bonding-based attachment that affects brand loyalty.Design/methodology/approachThe authors employed a survey as the research design. There were 500 respondents who were customers of telecommunication network brands in Ghana. Data collected were analyzed using the partial least square approach to structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) on SmartPLS 3.FindingsThe findings indicate that structural and bonding-based attachments affect the brand loyalty. Specifically, the authors found that network coverage, network quality, brand trust and social interaction ties have positive effects on brand loyalty while MNP has a negative effect on brand loyalty.Originality/valueThis study conceptualizes attachment from both structural and bonding perspectives, which are rare in the marketing literature. Thus, this study advances the conceptualization of attachment in the marketing literature.

Hazan and Zeifman were the first to explore Bowlby’s proposition that adults would organize their attachment relationships into a hierarchy and since then considerable research has explored both the structure and function of attachment hierarchies using different methodologies. In this study, previous findings establishing an association between attachment and networks were replicated and the associations between network members were explored. First, consistent with expectations, the findings provided additional evidence that romantic partners do not necessarily jump to the top of the hierarchy and young adults continue to place parents, in particular mothers, at the top of their hierarchy. Consistent with previous work, security was associated with placing others closer to the self and attachment avoidance was associated with placing others farther from the self on an electronic bull’s eye. Furthermore, to date, this is the first study to examine the association between attachment representations and the organization of network members. Interestingly, security was associated with placing network members closer to each other and attachment avoidance was associated with placing network members farther from each other. This finding suggests that individuals with high attachment security may be more motivated to allow members of their social networks to mingle whereas individuals with high attachment avoidance scores seemed to be motivated to keep their network members at a distance. The results of this study extend our understanding how attachment representations may influence the organization of our social networks.

Many networks generated by nature have two generic properties: they are formed in the process of preferential attachment and they are scale-free. Considering these features, by interfering with mechanism of the preferential attachment, we propose a generalisation of the Barabási–Albert model—the ’Fractional Preferential Attachment’ (FPA) scale-free network model—that generates networks with time-independent degree distributions p ( k ) ∼ k − γ with degree exponent 2 < γ ≤ 3 (where γ = 3 corresponds to the typical value of the BA model). In the FPA model, the element controlling the network properties is the f parameter, where f ∈ ( 0 , 1 ⟩ . Depending on the different values of f parameter, we study the statistical properties of the numerically generated networks. We investigate the topological properties of FPA networks such as degree distribution, degree correlation (network assortativity), clustering coefficient, average node degree, network diameter, average shortest path length and features of fractality. We compare the obtained values with the results for various synthetic and real-world networks. It is found that, depending on f, the FPA model generates networks with parameters similar to the real-world networks. Furthermore, it is shown that f parameter has a significant impact on, among others, degree distribution and degree correlation of generated networks. Therefore, the FPA scale-free network model can be an interesting alternative to existing network models. In addition, it turns out that, regardless of the value of f, FPA networks are not fractal.

We introduce a new model of competition on growing networks. This extends the preferential attachment model, with the key property that node choices evolve simultaneously with the network. When a new node joins the network, it chooses neighbours by preferential attachment, and selects its type based on the number of initial neighbours of each type. The model is analysed in detail, and in particular, we determine the possible proportions of the various types in the limit of large networks. An important qualitative feature we find is that, in contrast to many current theoretical models, often several competitors will coexist. This matches empirical observations in many real-world networks.

Here, we deal with a model of multitype network with nonpreferential attachment growth. The connection between two nodes depends asymmetrically on their types, reflecting the implication of time order in temporal networks. Based upon graph limit theory, we analytically determined the limit of the network model characterized by a kernel, in the sense that the number of copies of any fixed subgraph converges when network size tends to infinity. The results are confirmed by extensive simulations. Our work thus provides a theoretical framework for quantitatively understanding grown temporal complex networks as a whole.

In this article, we develop a child-centered network approach to attachment during middle childhood. Following monotropic ideas, current attachment research focuses on parental attachment figures despite the expansion of the children’s social environment during middle childhood, failing to generate a comprehensive and structured overview of all individuals who ensure the children’s feeling of safety. Relying on quantitative methods, these studies are also dominated by an adult perspective, limiting the children’s contributions. While there have been theoretical drafts of attachment networks during childhood, this article constitutes the first practical implementation. Using photo elicitation interviews and participant observations, we developed an innovative assessment strategy that allows children to exhaustively identify and characterize all their attachment figures on sociostructural and functional dimensions, thus positioning the children at the center of their comprehensive attachment networks that collectively contribute to their feeling of security. We combine qualitative and quantitative data to assess the children’s own understanding of their feeling of security and to locate the individual attachment figure on context-specific social dimensions, thus making the research setting, a clan in Cameroon, an inherent part of the methodological development. The data are translated into multidimensional network diagrams to visualize the children’s perception of their attachment environment and the emerging patterns of their selection. We present an exemplary network, supplementing it with observational data to discuss the ecological validity of our approach.

The Barabási–Albert (BA) model is extended here to include the concept of modifying the preferential attachment and combining the global preferential attachment with local preferential attachment. Our preferential attachment makes the nodes with higher degree increase less rapidly than the BA model after a long time. The maximum degree is introduced. We compare the time-evolution of the degree of the BA model and our model to illustrate that our model can control the degree of some nodes increasing dramatically with increasing time. Using the continuum theory and the rate equation method, we obtain the analytical expressions of the time-evolution of the degree and the power-law degree distribution.

Research has established that adverse experiences in childhood are far-reaching. Attachment persists into adulthood, impacted by internal structures that make sense of relational experience. Dunbar (1993) has estimated that humans maintain approximately 150 personal relationships, structured in concentric rings of decreasing intimacy within the active social network. However, no literature exists examining the relationship among adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), adult attachment dynamics, and social networks. Relational mission workers (N=84) completed a self-report questionnaire. Hierarchical multiple regressions revealed that, after controlling for Extraversion, ACEs and Global Anxiety attachment were significant predictors of the size of the innermost social network ring, and ACEs predicted the change in ratio between the innermost social network ring and the social network as a whole. Interpersonal, internal factors, such as attachment style, and experiential, external factors, such as ACEs, can impact the structure and size of an individual's social network.

The preferential attachment of the Barabási–Albert model has been playing an important role in modeling practical complex networks. The preferential attachment mechanism describes the role of many real systems, which follows the characteristic “the rich get richer.” However, there are some situations that are ignored by the preferential attachment mechanism, one of which is the existence of the limited resource. Vertices with the largest degree may not obtain new edges by the highest probability due to various factors, e.g., in social relationship networks, vertices with quite a lot of relationships may not connect to new vertices since their energy and resource are limited. Hence, the limit for degree growing is proposed in our new network model. We adjust the attachment rule in light of the population growth curve in biology, which considers both attraction and restriction of the degree. In addition, the unaware–aware–unaware opinion diffusion is studied on our proposed network. The celebrity effect is taken into consideration in the opinion diffusion process.

Many studies have considered the preferential attachment mechanism to cause scale-free networks. On the contrary, a network evolution model based on nonpreferential attachment is proposed to explain some non-scale-free network, and the existence of a stable degree distribution of the model is theoretically proven. Three methods are suggested to estimate the distribution. The model’s significance shows that preferential attachment is not the only mechanism of tail power-law distribution, which gives a reasonable explanation to non-scale-free phenomenon. Our results provide a new train of thought for understanding the degree distribution of network.

A new evolving network based on the scale-free network of Barabási and Albert (BA) is studied, and the accelerated attachment of new edges is considered in its evolving process. The accelerated attachment is different from the previous accelerated growth of edges and has two particular meanings in this paper. One is that a new vertex with the edges is inserted into the network with acceleration at each time step; the other is that, with a given probability, some additional edges are linked with the vertices in proportion to the number of their obtained edges in the latest evolving periods. The new model describes the cases of those complex networks with a few exceptional vertices. The attachment mechanism of the new adding edges for these vertices does not follow the preferential attachment rule. Comparing with the linear edge growth model, the characteristics of the accelerated growth model are studied theoretically and numerically. We show that the degree distributions of these models have a power law decay and the exponents are larger than that of the BA model. We point out that the characteristics of the exceptional vertices and the aging vertices in an aging network are not identical. The reasons for neglecting this attachment in most of evolving networks are also summarized.

As women commit to a conventional lifestyle, the bond of attachment becomes a fundamental component in sustaining the desistance process. If weak attachments in the community cannot be replaced or enhanced with the cultivation of strong conventional attachments while incarcerated, female offenders will leave prison without a supportive network. Strong social networks and a high level of social capital are essential for female offenders to reintegrate successfully; if social bonds are constructed before release, there is a greater chance of maintaining a crime-free lifestyle. One way to cultivate strong bonds of attachment during incarceration is through prison-based programming. This qualitative study, based on the narratives of 49 female offenders, examines the potential for inmates to form prosocial attachments with staff in two HIV prison-based peer programs in New York State. Strong attachments were formed between the inmates and civilian staff during incarceration, maintained upon release, and served to reinforce the establishment of bourgeoning conventional identities. The dedication and commitment of the civilian staff, and the support they provided to the inmates, was essential to achieving both rehabilitative and reintegrative goals.

In this paper, the evolution of infrastructure networks is modelled as a preferential attachment process. It is assumed that geographical distance and country borders provide barriers to link formation in infrastructure networks. The model is validated against empirical data on the European Internet infrastructure network covering 209 cities. The average path length and average clustering coefficient of the observed network are successfully simulated. Furthermore, the simulated network shows a significant correlation with the observed European Internet infrastructure network. The paper ends with a discussion on the future uses of preferential attachment models in the light of the literature on world cities and global cities.

Doctors Jordan and Shaffer offer a “unified” draft statute to ensure users the right to connect devices and applications of their choice while ensuring providers the right to reasonable network management. Analyzing current attachment rules for telephony, cable, MVPDs, mobile services, and the Internet, they propose a single set of rules for operating in a converged broadband network environment. In the last decade, social network sites (SNS) have a major attendance in our everyday lives. Numerous studies have explored the antecedences and consequences of this novel phenomenon. The current study is yet another attempt in this direction. In this research we seek to explore the role of personality tendencies, namely the attachment system, in individuals' affect, cognitions, and behavior on what is presently considered as the most popular SNS - "Facebook". Over the years studies have continuously demonstrated that attachment theory is a relevant framework for understanding human behavior and has proven attachment tendencies to be significantly associated with quality of close relationships and daily social interactions. Since today virtual communication and social networks are capturing dominant aspects of social relationships, the linkage to attachment theory is evident. Hence, we approached 190 Israeli young adults, and asked them about their habits and daily routines on Facebook. We also measured their cognition and emotion concerning Facebook. Results show that attachment insecurity is associated with global orientations and emotions towards Facebook and that people develop attachment relationships with their Facebook network. We discuss the associations between attachment and virtual communication and its application for future theory and research.

With more attentions drawn to transportation, we find that it is available to analyze transportation system by using weighted networks. Distinguishing from traditional method, we introduce a dynamic weighted network model with evolutional size and weight. Additionally, the expected strength allocation vector of the model consists of a deterministic component reflecting preferential attachment and a random component, which can characterize the realistic network better. In this paper, we obtain the degree and strength distributions of the weighted network and we conclude that the network has scale-free characteristics.

We introduce a growing network model describing the cyclic topology of scale-free networks. In the model, we add new vertices and attach new edges between already existing vertices. The new edges are added by two different processes which is controlled by a parameter p. One is the neighbor attachment process which makes the network become cyclic, and the other is the preferential attachment process which results in the scale-free property of the network. We measure the cyclic coefficient R for various p and find that it linearly depend on p. Also by measuring the distribution of the local cyclic coefficient we survey the change of cyclic topology in the networks for varing p and compare it to the real networks.

Integrated circuit (IC) industry network has been built in Yangtze River Delta with the constant expansion of IC industry. The IC industry network grows exponentially with the establishment of new companies and the establishment of contacts with old firms. Based on preferential attachment and exponential growth, the paper presents the analytical results in which the vertices degree of scale-free network follows power-law distribution [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) and parameter [Formula: see text] satisfies [Formula: see text]. At the same time, we find that the preferential attachment takes place in a dynamic local world and the size of the dynamic local world is in direct proportion to the size of whole networks. The paper also gives the analytical results of no-preferential attachment and exponential growth on random networks. The computer simulated results of the model illustrate these analytical results. Through some investigations on the enterprises, this paper at first presents the distribution of IC industry, composition of industrial chain and service chain firstly. Then, the correlative network and its analysis of industrial chain and service chain are presented. The correlative analysis of the whole IC industry is also presented at the same time. Based on the theory of complex network, the analysis and comparison of industrial chain network and service chain network in Yangtze River Delta are provided in the paper.

The development of online social networking services provides a rich source of data of social networks including geospatial information. More and more research has shown that geographical space is an important factor in the interactions of users in social networks. In this paper, we construct the spatial interaction network from the city level, which is called the city interaction network, and study the evolution mechanism of the city interaction network formed in the process of information dissemination in social networks. A network evolution model for interactions among cities is established. The evolution model consists of two core processes: the edge arrival and the preferential attachment of the edge. The edge arrival model arranges the arrival time of each edge; the model of preferential attachment of the edge determines the source node and the target node of each arriving edge. Six preferential attachment models (Random-Random, Random-Degree, Degree-Random, Geographical distance, Degree-Degree, Degree-Degree-Geographical distance) are built, and the maximum likelihood approach is used to do the comparison. We find that the degree of the node and the geographic distance of the edge are the key factors affecting the evolution of the city interaction network. Finally, the evolution experiments using the optimal model DDG are conducted, and the experiment results are compared with the real city interaction network extracted from the information dissemination data of the WeChat web page. The results indicate that the model can not only capture the attributes of the real city interaction network, but also reflect the actual characteristics of the interactions among cities.

This study examined the moderating role of attachment anxiety on the relationship between intensity of social network site use and bridging, bonding, and maintained social capital. Data from 322 undergraduate Chinese students were collected. Hierarchical regression analyses showed positive relationships between online intensity of social network site use and the three types of social capital. Moreover, attachment anxiety moderated the effect of intensity of social network site use on social capital. Specifically, for students with lower attachment anxiety, the relationships between intensity of social network site use and bonding and bridging social capital were stronger than those with higher attachment anxiety. The result suggested that social network sites cannot improve highly anxiously attached individuals' social capital effectively; they may need more face-to-face communications.

Online social networks are very important in every-day life as they offer new possibilities for communication. Couples may benefit from new opportunities and thus achieve better levels of relationship satisfaction. Some psychological characteristics may interfere with online communication in predicting satisfaction. This study was designed to examine associations between attachment insecurity, communication on Social Network Sites (SNS), and relational satisfaction. SNS communication was postulated to be a moderator in the relationship between attachment and relational satisfaction among Romanian young couples. The participants were 73 couples (146 individuals). Structural equation modeling using the actor-partner interdependence moderated model demonstrated that attachment insecurities show strong associations with relational satisfaction (both actor and partner effects) and that both the quality and the frequency of the communication on social network sites shape in different ways these associations. The results emphasize the role of SNS communication and how it can determine different patterns of relational satisfaction based on the attachment orientation of partners.

We propose a simple network growth process where the preferential attachment contains two essential parameters: homophily, namely, the tendency of sites to link with similar ones, and the number of attaching neighbors. It jointly generalizes the Barabási–Albert model and the scale-free homophilic model with a control parameter which tunes the importance of the homophily on preferential attachment process. Our results support a detailed discussion about different kinds of correlation, in special a fitness correlation introduced in this paper, and comparisons between BA model, scale-free homophilic model, and our present model considering its topological properties: degree distribution, time dependence of the connectivity and clustering coefficient.

AbstractNumerous works have been proposed to generate random graphs preserving the same properties as real-life large-scale networks. However, many real networks are better represented by hypergraphs. Few models for generating random hypergraphs exist, and also, just a few models allow to both preserve a power-law degree distribution and a high modularity indicating the presence of communities. We present a dynamic preferential attachment hypergraph model which features partition into communities. We prove that its degree distribution follows a power-law, and we give theoretical lower bounds for its modularity. We compare its characteristics with a real-life co-authorship network and show that our model achieves good performances. We believe that our hypergraph model will be an interesting tool that may be used in many research domains in order to reflect better real-life phenomena.

Abstract Exactly what is meant by a ‘complex’ network is not clear; however, what is clear is that it is something other than a random graph. Complex networks arise in a wide range of real social, technological and physical systems. In all cases, the most basic categorization of these graphs is their node degree distribution. Particular groups of complex networks may exhibit additional interesting features, including the so-called small-world effect or being scale-free. There are many algorithms with which one may generate networks with particular degree distributions (perhaps the most famous of which is preferential attachment). In this paper, we address what it means to randomly choose a network from the class of networks with a particular degree distribution, and in doing so we show that the networks one gets from the preferential attachment process are actually highly pathological. Certain properties (including robustness and fragility) which have been attributed to the (scale-free) degree distribution are actually more intimately related to the preferential attachment growth mechanism. We focus here on scale-free networks with power-law degree sequences—but our methods and results are perfectly generic.

Partner enhancement is an important relational process that has been linked to better relationship outcomes in existing research. However, little is known about variables that might be associated with the practice of partner enhancement. In this study, we utilized an ecosystemic model with a sample of 1,432 couples and an actor/partner interdependence model to explore whether the family of origin, attachment avoidance and anxiety, and social network approval predicted partner enhancement scores. The results indicated that the family of origin was only indirectly associated with partner enhancement through attachment and social network approval. The best predictors of partner enhancement were attachment avoidance and social network approval. Higher scores on actor attachment avoidance were related to higher scores on partner enhancement contrary to expectations. Curiously, partner effects for attachment avoidance were the opposite in that higher scores were associated with lower levels of partner enhancement. Attachment anxiety was associated with lower scores on partner enhancement for both actor and partner effects, and social network approval was associated with higher scores on partner enhancement.

In this article, the authors present a new novel energy-efficient and fault-tolerant evolution model for large-scale wireless sensor networks based on complex network theory. In the evolution model, not only is the residual energy of each node considered, but also the constraint of links is introduced, which makes the energy consumption of the whole network more balanced. Furthermore, both preferential attachment and random attachment to the evolution model are introduced, which reduces the proportion of the nodes with high degree while keeping scale-free network characteristics to some extent. Theoretical analysis shows that the new model is an extension of the BA model, which is a mixed model between a BA model and a stochastic model. Simulation results show that EFEM has better stochastic network characteristics while keeping scale-free network characteristics if the value of random probability is near 0.2 and it can help to construct a high survivability network for large-scale WSNs.

Abstract What is the future of “Carterfone” style device attachment rules for a converged broadband network? The authors predict that American rules governing device attachment will become unsustainable as network technologies converge, and that a unified statute regarding device attachment will become necessary. They posit that end users will increasingly expect the functionality of the mobile Internet to resemble that of the fixed Internet. Current telecommunications law results in very different requirements depending on the type of network over which service is provided. This article explores the application of a previously proposed set of statutory provisions regarding device attachment to multiple scenarios. The authors find that a combination of an “any device” rule with provisions on device interconnection, device subsidies, and reasonable network management can effectively address the range of likely scenarios.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the evolving mechanism of urban roadway network. With the consideration of self-organization effect and planning effect during evolution, the authors try to demonstrate the impact of preferential attachment, module scale and module structure on the evolving network model. Design/methodology/approach – The roadway network is built in the form of abstract network by dual approach. By using the evolving model of modular growth, the authors analyze the effects and mechanism of the evolving process. Then through numerical analysis, the impact of evolving effects on urban roadway network topology structure is discussed from the aspects of preferential attachment, module scale and module structure. Findings – The module structure property, small-world property and scale-free property of roadway network can be affected with various degrees by the change of preferential attachment and module scale. However, the impact of module structure on network properties is small, which can be ignored. Therefore, in practice, the self-organization effect and planning effect of evolving network can be reached by changing the preferential attachment and module scale, so as to generate the network structure with specific properties. Research limitations/implications – Some local events, such as road extensions, road demolition and intersection rebuilding, exist during the evolving process under real-world situation. While those cases have not been considered in preferential attachment. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to take these factors into consideration in further research. Practical implications – The paper has implications for practice in urban transportation planning and roadway constructions, which can help to guide the planning of urban roadway and to adjust or restore partial network when broken down according to the evolving law. Originality/value – The impact of preferential attachment, module scale and module structure on the evolving network model is measured. And the relationship between different network properties can be used to build some patterns of network. From this point of view, the development of urban roadway network can be predicted and intervened.

In this paper, we present results concerning a natural extension of the class of heterogeneous preferential attachment models, a generalization of the Barabási–Albert model to heterogeneous networks. In this extended class, the network nodes enjoy a nonzero attractiveness even when their connectivity degrees are zero. We analytically show that the degree densities of models in the extended class exhibit a richer scaling behavior than their homogeneous counterparts, and that power-law scaling in their degree distribution is robust in the presence of the offset in the attachment kernel.

Homelessness in young people is partially explained within the framework of attachment theory. The relationship between family background, parenting style, experiences of separation and loss, and quality of the attachment relationship was examined in a group of homeless youths (n=108) and two comparison groups, i.e. residential youths ( n=85) and a large control group of youths from the ‘standard’ population (n=1228). Also, data regarding the influence of social support were obtained. Results indicate that growing up in a family with divorced parents, and especially a lack of parental responsiveness and emotional support are significant factors in the genesis of homelessness. Social support systems can, however, act as a protective factor and thus prevent the development of homelessness.

The evolving rule includes random attachment and preferential attachment and so on. It forms different network formation by different attachment. In order to analyze this character, this paper put forward an evolving model. It contains two kinds of attachment: some are connected at random, and others are connected based on current structure of the network, and in the model the deleted links are considered. The degree distribution and degree exponent are obtained by mean-field approach. Then it discusses the influence of randomness on the average path length.

In the present work, algorithms based on complex network theory are applied to Recommendation Systems in order to improve their quality of predictions. We show how some networks are grown under the influence of trendy forces, and how this can be used to enhance the results of a recommendation system, i.e. increase their percentage of right predictions. After defining a base algorithm, we create recommendation networks which are based on a histogram of user ratings, using therefore an underlying principle of preferential attachment. We show the influence of data aging in the prediction of user habits and how the exact moment of the prediction influences the recommendation. Finally, we design weighted networks that take into account the age of the information used to generate the links. In this way, we obtain a better approximation to evaluate the users' tastes.
