In 2019, Dolby Atmos Music launched on Tidal HiFi and Amazon Prime Music HD, integrating 3D sound with music streaming services for the first time. This is one of several recent incursions by popular music into immersive and interactive mediums, which also includes technologies such as virtual reality and 360-degree video. As immersive productions become more normal in popular music, they are increasingly critical to examine. How are aesthetic features of pop compositions altered or maintained in these productions? And how do these different spatial mediums affect compositional design, subject positioning, artists’ performativity, and staging? This article aims to address these questions by presenting a model for 3D music analysis that relates various notions of music technology and production to musicological concepts on performance environment, staging, and subject position. This model is then demonstrated in a hermeneutic close reading of the song ‘Blinding Lights’ by R&B superstar The Weeknd, which was released in both stereo and Dolby Atmos mediums in 2019. The goal of the analysis is to demonstrate some of the ways different mediums impinge on various interpretive stances and the relationship between the performer and listener in immersive popular music.

From the inception of sync sound in the late 1920s to the modern day, sound in animation has assumed a variety of forms. This article proposes four principal modes that have developed in the commercial realm of American animation according to changing contingencies of convention, technology and funding. The various modes are termed syncretic, zip-crash, functional and poetic authentication. Each one is utilized to different aesthetic effect, with changing relationships to the image. The use of voice, music, sound effects and atmos are considered as well as the ways in which they are recorded, manipulated and mixed. Additionally, the ways in which conventions bleed from one period to the next are also illustrated. Collectively, these proposed categories aid in understanding the history and creative range of options available to animators beyond the visual realm.

Molecular dynamic (MD) simulation is proven to be an important tool to study the structure as well as the physical properties at atomic level in materials science. However, it requires a huge computing time and hence limits the ability to treat a large scale simulation. In this paper we present a solution to speed up the MD simulation using CUDA technology (Compute Unified Device Architecture). We used the GeForce GTS 250 card with Version 2.30. The simulation is implemented for Lennard-Jones systems with periodic boundary conditions which consist of 1024, 2048, 4096 and 8192 atoms. The calculation shows that the computing time depends on the size of system and could be decreased by 37 times. This result indicates a possibility of constructing a large MD model with up to 105 atoms on the usual PC.

This paper presents some results of rainfall forecast in the monsoon onset period in South Vietnam, with the use of ensemble Kalman filter to assimilate observation data into the initial field of the model. The study of rainfall forecasts are experimented at the time of Southern monsoon outbreaks for 3 years (2005, 2008 and 2009), corresponding to 18 cases. In each case, there are five trials, including satellite wind data assimilation, upper-air sounding data assimilation, mixed data (satellite wind+upper-air sounding data) assimilation and two controlled trials (one single predictive test and one multi-physical ensemble prediction), which is equivalent to 85 forecasts for one trial. Based on the statistical evaluation of 36 samples (18 meteorological stations and 18 trials), the results show that Kalman filter assimilates satellite wind data to forecast well rainfall at 48 hours and 72 hours ranges. With 24 hour forecasting period, upper-air sounding data assimilation and mixed data assimilation experiments predicted better rainfall than non-assimilation tests. The results of the assessment based on the phase prediction indicators also show that the ensemble Kalman filter assimilating satellite wind data and mixed data sets improve the rain forecasting capability of the model at 48 hours and 72 hour ranges, while the upper-air sounding data assimilation test produces satisfactory results at the 72 hour forecast range, and the multi-physical ensemble test predicted good rainfall at 24 hour and 48 hour forecasts. AbstractAdvanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) are a heterogeneous class of medicinal products that by offering the potential of cure represent a paradigm shift in the approach of many life-threatening diseases. Although a common regulatory framework for ATMPs has been established in the EU, the health technology assessment (HTA) and financing decisions remain local. The aim of this article is to present an integrated analysis of the current status of the value judgment of ATMPs and the integration of ethical evaluation in the HTA process. It has been identified that approaching the specificities of ATMPs in terms of market access will require a broadening of the definition of value to be able to systematically capture elements of value not traditionally considered. Outcomes modelling will play an important role in the pricing and reimbursement of ATMPs, providing a way to bridge the gap caused by the absence of data from clinical studies or real-world data. Given the nature and disruptive consequences of ATMPs the assessment and adoption of these medicinal products raises important ethical questions, both at a policy and at society level that should be properly addressed. HTA can be made more transparent and reliable, and simultaneously promote robust and accountable decision making, by turning explicit the value judgments implicit in HTA. Ultimately, there should be no core conflict between ethical requirements and HTA in a scenario where the goal is to promote equity and access of patients to truly innovative therapies such as ATMPs, while assuring the sustainability of healthcare systems.

This electronic gate, approximately 240 atoms long by 5 atoms thick, permits precise control of the flow of electrons across the channel of the transistor. The work shown here was done by Greg Timp and his colleagues at Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies. In this case, it is the insulator that ultimately controls the performance of the transistor. The work represented on the cover is just one example of how the interests of the Dielectric Science and Technology Division of ECS are having some of the greatest impact in the field of microelectronics.

In order to produce new generation monolayer brazing CBN(cubic boron nitride) grinding wheels, an active filler alloys(Ag-Cu-Ti) were tested in vacuum furnace. The results show that Ag-Cu-Ti alloy exhibits good wetting and bonding toward as CBN grits. SEMEDS microanalyses have shown that during brazing Ti in Ag-Cu-Ti alloy segregated preferentially to the surface of the CBN to form a Ti-rich reaction produce. X-ray diffraction reveals that the wetting and bonding behaviour on CBN surface by Ag-Cu-Ti alloy melt is realized through TiN and TiB2 which is produced by interaction between Ti atoms of Ag-Cu-Ti alloy and N or B atoms of CBN surface.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to propose and investigate the dimensions of automated teller machine (ATM) service quality and their relationship with customer satisfaction in the retail banking sector. Design/methodology/approach – A structured questionnaire gleaned from the literature was used to collect data from 530 ATM customers of 15 banks in Ghana. Descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis were used to identify the dimensions of ATM service quality and their relationship with customer satisfaction. Findings – The study found convenience, reliability, ease of use, privacy and security, responsiveness and fulfillment to be the major dimensions of ATM service quality. Apart from security and privacy, these dimensions are significantly related to customer satisfaction. Practical implications – The ATM quality dimensions found in this study provide practical guidelines for bank managers to improve customer experience with ATMs. The relative importance of the factors identified in the study also provide managers with a sense of what issues to focus on in order to improve service delivery through the ATMs. Originality/value – The ATM service quality dimensions found in this study have enriched knowledge in electronic banking usage in developing countries such as Ghana. In addition, the study also provides bank managers with insights into how to improve customer satisfaction in retail banking through the usage of ATMs.

A combined strengthening of cutting tools for finishing has been carried out in glow discharge plasma filling a process vacuum chamber. At the first stage, reamers rotating around the axis distanced from the magnetron targets at 8 cm were bombarded by fast argon atoms produced due to charge exchange collisions of ions accelerated in space charge sheathes between the plasma and a negatively biased to 3 kV grid with a 25 cm radius of its concave surface curvature. The reamer bombardment by fast neutral atoms led to a reduction of its cutting-edge radius from ~7 μm to ~2 μm. At the second stage, the reamer surface was nitrided within 1 h at a temperature of 500 °C stabilized by regulation of the negative bias voltage accelerating the nitrogen ions. At the third stage, a 3 μm thick TiN coating has been synthesized on the reamer bombarded by pulsed beams of 3 keV neutral atoms at a 50 Hz repetition rate of 50 μs wide pulses. After the combined strengthening, the cutting edge radius of the coated reamer amounted to ~5 μm and the roughness of the area machined by the reamer holes in blanks made of structural steel reduced by about 1.5 times.

In the physics of the natural world, basic tasks of life, such as homeostasis and reproduction, are extremely complex operations, requiring the coordination of billions of atoms even in simple cases. By contrast, artificial living organisms can be implemented in computers using relatively few bits, and copying a data structure is trivial. Of course, the physical overheads of the computers themselves are huge, but since their programmability allows digital “laws of physics” to be tailored like a custom suit, deploying living technology atop an engineered computational substrate might be as or more effective than building directly on the natural laws of physics, for a substantial range of desirable purposes. This article suggests basic criteria and metrics for bespoke physics computing architectures, describes one such architecture, and offers data and illustrations of custom living technology competing to reproduce while collaborating on an externally useful computation.

In atomic physics experiments, a frequency-stabilized or ‘locked’ laser source is commonly required. Many established techniques are available for locking close to an atomic resonance. However, in many instances, such as atomic magnetometer and magic wavelength optical lattices in ultra-cold atoms, it is desirable to lock the frequency of the laser far away from the resonance. This review presents several far off-resonance laser frequency stabilization methods, by which the frequency of the probe beam can be locked on the detuning as far as several tens of gigahertz (GHz) away from atomic resonance line, and discusses existing challenges and possible future directions in this field.

A scheme is proposed to generate maximally entangled states of two Λ -type atoms trapped in separate overdamped optical cavities using quantum-jump-based feedback. This proposal can stabilize not only the singlet state, but also the other three triplet states by alternating the detuning parameter and relative phase of the classical fields. Meanwhile it is convenient to manipulate atoms, and much more robust against spontaneous emission of atoms. The parameters related to the potential experiment are analyzed comprehensively and it is confirmed that the quantum feedback technology is a significant tool for entanglement production with a high fidelity.

INTRODUCTION:There is considerable excitement around the development of regenerative medicines (or advanced therapy medicinal products, ATMPs), with the expectation that they may bring substantial clinical gains and offer cures for previous debilitating and fatal diseases. However, high costs mean that Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and reimbursement decisions are challenging for payers and manufacturers, even when the therapies are expected to offer good value for money.In Europe, seven ATMPs have market authorization, yet only one has achieved national level reimbursement. Statistics such as these put HTA bodies under pressure to review their methods and consider how these can apply to regenerative medicines.METHODS:We present a review of one example, from the United Kingdom's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), who commissioned an external organization to undertake a mock appraisal of a hypothetical ATMP using standard methods. The therapeutic area chosen for the mock appraisal was chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy for treating relapsed or refractory B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.RESULTS:The role of uncertainty was a key consideration within the report, yet we found that the presentation of uncertainty within the mock appraisal was misleading for decision makers.We found that the exercise represents a thorough mock HTA of CAR T-cell therapy. However, it focused on testing whether ATMPs could fit into the existing HTA pathway for conventional medicines, rather than seeking to identify the most suitable approach for assessing regenerative medicines. We suggest the latter would have been a more relevant question for the mock appraisal.CONCLUSIONS:Any significant departures from the usual HTA process must be based on solid economic rationale if we are to ensure efficient allocation of resources. Thus, in order for regenerative medicines to be given ‘special treatment,’ it must be demonstrated that societal preferences, or the full extent of health (or non-health) benefits, are not being realised for this group of treatments through existing HTA methods.

The results show that the O and N atoms interact with Zn atoms through coordination bonds. As a potential organic light-emitting material ( OLEDs), the surface electron state of zinc (II) complex material has been investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) technology.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to understand technology diffusion in the banking sector in India by analyzing ATM (automatic teller machine) technology and its replacement of the teller (labor). ATMs are fast emerging as an important IT investment for a bank in India. Hence, in this paper the authors use the ATM as a proxy for capital and the teller as a proxy for labor.Design/methodology/approachThe debate on the “IT paradox” is the motivation for this paper. The constant elasticity of substitution (CES) model is used, as the degree of substitution can be estimated. The degree of substitutability of one form of input for another namely, ATM (capital) for teller (labor), is discussed by developing an appropriate model to understand the same.FindingsThe rapid diffusion of the ATM was clearly large from 1998, nine years after it was first adopted. This was also a time when the number of tellers was falling and the wage bill for tellers increasing. The CES production function model used in this paper is clearly a good predictor of the data compared with the other cases. The estimate shows that the degree of substitutability of the teller by the ATM is high. However, the ATM is not a perfect substitute. By running counterfactual experiments, it can be concluded that both a fall in the price of ATMs and an increase in the wage bill for tellers contributed to the diffusion of the ATM.Practical implicationsThe excess labor in public sector banks needs to be redeployed rapidly, or staff need to be trained in other functions as do private banks, so that they do not become redundant as technology diffuses.Originality/valueThe paper is original in its data, its model building and testing in the banking sector.

Abstract The paper is focused on reducing machining time by using 3D optical scanner of ATOS Triplescan II. Workpiece was a forging die, which was renovated by hard facing. The contribution deals with comparing the CAM simulation of roughing process according to the STL model imported from ATOS, and simulation without thus-defined workpiece. The results indicate a significant improvement of machining time based on CAQ technology and usage of the ATOS device for measuring the errors of weld deposit.

One of the limitations in using spaceborne, microwave radiometer data for atmospheric remote sensing is the nonuniform spatial resolution. Remapping algorithms can be applied to the data to ameliorate this limitation. In this paper, two remapping algorithms, the Backus–Gilbert inversion (BGI) technique and the filter algorithm (AFA), widely used in the operational data preprocessing of the Advanced Technology Microwave Sounder (ATMS), are investigated. The algorithms are compared using simulations and actual ATMS data. Results show that both algorithms can effectively enhance or degrade the resolution of the data. The BGI has a higher remapping accuracy than the AFA. It outperforms the AFA by producing less bias around coastlines and hurricane centers where the signal changes sharply. It shows no obvious bias around the scan ends where the AFA has a noticeable positive bias in the resolution-enhanced image. However, the BGI achieves the resolution enhancement at the expense of increasing the noise by 0.5 K. The use of the antenna pattern instead of the point spread function in the algorithm causes the persistent bias found in the AFA-remapped image, leading not only to an inaccurate antenna temperature expression but also to the neglect of the geometric deformation of the along-scan field-of-views.

Neste texto nos dedicamos às performatividades discursivas midiáticas que narram as lutas de corpos marginalizados, excluídos e desumanizados. Nos atemos à novela “A Força do Querer”, da Rede Globo de Televisão, enquanto produção midiática que impulsiona a circulação de discursos sobre a transexualidade. O ângulo de observação pretendido contempla semioses direcionadas a situações de violência e performatividades de afeto decorrentes de tais situações. Através de índices que entremeiam significações de violência pretendemos observar como a precariedade está entextualizada. Os afetos, neste caso, são significativos do reconhecimento da humanidade presente nestas vidas, de modo que através deles é possível observar se essas vidas são consideradas vivíveis ou visíveis. São perguntas a serem respondidas aqui: De que forma a transfobia é entextualizada? Quais discursos são utilizados para justificar, motivar ou endossar atos de violência? Quais afetos são levados em conta? As noções de vergonha, medo, melancolia, solidão e trauma estão envolvidas? São conceitos operacionalizantes da análise de texto aplicados a este trabalho: entextualização e indexicalidade. Precariedade, violência, reconhecimento, afeto, soberania e estado de exceção são temas transdisciplinares que nortearam também este texto. A visibilidade midiática da violência contra o corpo trans confere a este subgrupo de vidas, marginalizado pelo biopoder, o reconhecimento da precariedade. A vida em si é representativa de um coletivo numérico que morre todos dias, que é assediada, violentada, ferida, desumanizada. O afeto, neste caso, torna o corpo trans reconhecível, dá vida a este corpo, humaniza-o, torna-o enlutado. Os afetos tornam dicotomicamente reconhecíveis tanto a precariedade, violência e morte quanto a vida vivível.

Deposition of films by sputtering was observed first in 1852 by Grove. The technique was in general use through the 1920s for preparing reflective coatings and other thin film samples. Western Electric deposited gold on wax masters for phonograph recordings. The improvement in diffusion pump technology at that time caused thermal evaporation deposition to replace sputtering.Not till the 1950s did sputter deposition reappear… Bell Laboratories developed tantalum hybrid circuit technology using sputter deposition. Besides depositing Ta, they created a new material, Ta2N, by reactively sputtering tantalum in gas mixtures of argon and N2. Since then, these two methods, sputtering of metals and alloys and reactive sputtering of compounds, have been investigated for many applications of thin film materials.Although the general aspects of the methods have changed little in the past 30 years, the implementations have changed significantly, particularly since the introduction of magnetron systems in the 1970s. This review will concentrate mainly on these flexible, high rate magnetron deposition systems.The term sputtering actually applies to the physical processes by which atoms are removed from a material. Momentum is transferred from an incident, energetic particle, usually in the form of an ion, to atoms of the target material. A large number of these atoms are displaced from their normal sites in the crystal lattice, producing a disordered structure that also contains some of the incident particles, which are implanted. Some of the target atoms are displaced from the surface; if they have enough energy, they escape from the target as sputtered atoms.

The basic theory of molecular dynamics and interface diffusion theory are used to simulate metal Ni/Al interface diffusion. The position image of the interface diffusion atoms and radial distribution function curve of Ni/Al interface reaction at initial time at a high temperature can be got. Through these images of diffusion atoms position, it is observed that there is a lot of change during the simulation process. The Al atoms layer of the matrix begins to melt at first. Ni atoms in the matrix begin to diffuse outward rapidly in large quantities. Al atoms overall diffuse to one side of the matrix at a relatively low speed, inter-diffusion layer thickness increases continuously and inter-diffusion atoms are solidified gradually from one side of the matrix to the surface. The process of change has been further verified in the corresponding radial distribution function curves. These conclusions can provide a theoretical reference for the technology of new materials preparation and the expansion of the environment of Ni/Al use.

There is growing demand to perform dynamic, atomistic computer-simulation of nano-scaled interfaces. For dynamic simulation of interesting processes at the nano-interfaces, we have been developing the hybrid simulation schemes by concurrently coupling the quantum description as the electronic density-functional theory and the classical description as the classical molecular dynamics. A quantum (QM) region composed of a relatively small number of atoms, is embedded with the novel buffered-cluster method in a classical (CL) region of atoms interacting through an empirical inter-atomic potential. The hybrid QM-CL simulation scheme is applied to various kinds of nano-processes including implantation of oxygen atoms to a Si slab relating to SIMOX technology.

Maintenance performs a vital role in assuring safety operation, enhancing the quality and accumulating the durability of the system. In this paper a method has been evolved to solve the different kinds of issues like new software installation, upgradation of current software, fixing of required equipment, raw water supply problem etc. To continue the service of water ATMs we cannot start maintenance of all the water ATMs together in any particular site, so authors require a proper network planning. Authors have a developed an algorithm to select the best site for fixing of Water ATMs. So individual can use this algorithm and find out the best sites for setting up of Water ATMs such that maximum numbers of persons gain the advantage of Water ATMs. In addition authors have planned an IoT enable Water ATMs. The IoT enabled technology put in the various function of Water ATMs, safeguarding the quality of water.

A reverse engineering based point cloud data acquisition method is addressed. The most critical part of reverse engineering (RE) is data acquisition of the digital model, the quality of design is determined by point cloud data acquisition, which is related to the accuracy of design. The measurement of relative position of different parts has been a difficulty of data acquisition. In this paper, the ATOS optical scanner was used as an example to illustrate the principle of three-dimensional scanner, the positioning methods and procedure of point cloud processing. A case study of point cloud data acquisition of car body was used to illustrate three-point positioning principle, which improves the accuracy of measurement compare with traditional method.

By exploiting the fast-growing Internet technology, the interactive computing serverWater Analysis Package(WAP, version 2.0) has been updated with more flexible options to better understand the role of the water O atoms present in three-dimensional macromolecular (protein or nucleic acid) structures. The updated robust server facilitates the computation and visualization of water molecules from various hydration shells, interfacial water molecules and those water molecules that stabilize various secondary structural elements. It is also possible to detect the interactions of water molecules with various parts (polar atoms, nonpolar atoms, main-chain and side-chain atoms) of the protein molecule. Furthermore, a molecular graphics visualization program is interfaced to display the nature of the interactions of the water molecules. The Protein Data Bank archive interfaced with the server is updated every week; hence users get to analyse the latest structures. The computing server can be obtained from http://dicsoft2.physics.iisc.ernet.in/wap/.

The results of experimental studies in the field of radiation materials science, in particular, the phenomenon of chemical bond transformation in metal powders subjected to ionizing radiation in producing tungsten wire are presented. The phenomenon of energy conversion of an intracrystalline chemical bond between a material and a complex, including point defects and impurity atoms, leading to a change in the structure of sinter powder crystals, has been established experimentally.
