Повний текст джерелаEsta tese de doutoramento apresenta trabalho desenvolvido no domínio de Ambient Assisted Living, mais especificamente no cuidado de pessoas acamadas. Numa visão global foram definidas as áreas dos cuidados requeridos pelos acamados que devem ser tidas em consideração, nomeadamente: higiene, conforto, segurança, mobilidade e assistência médica. Normalmente são necessários dois cuidadores, para executar o cuidado de um acamado. Nesta tese, apresenta-se uma solução para que um único cuidador seja capaz de realizar os cuidados de higiene de um acamado. Portanto, todo o estudo está direcionado à perspetiva do utilizador principal, o cuidador, que é o responsável pelas tarefas, sofrendo desgaste físico e psicológico ao longo do tempo. Tendo em conta o elevado espectro para possível atuação e desenvolvimento de uma tese de doutoramento em Ambient Assisted Living, houve necessidade de focar o trabalho numa área específica. Para isso, foram efetuados estudos que são apresentados neste documento, respeitantes a opiniões de vários cuidadores, que os próprios materializaram num questionário que lhes foi direcionado. Com base nos estudos efetuados, concluiu-se que a área mais importante para desenvolver uma solução de equipamento, para ser utilizado pelos cuidadores, é o banho. Sendo assim, esta tese de doutoramento tem como objetivo principal apresentar uma nova metodologia para auxiliar os cuidadores na atividade do banho em ambiente domiciliário. No contexto referido, procedeu-se assim ao projeto de um sistema de banho composto por dois módulos: um dos módulos serve para aquecimento e fornecimento de água à temperatura e caudal necessários para o banho e o outro, que consiste num colchão insuflável, serve para permitir dar o banho ao acamado utilizando a própria cama como suporte físico para esse efeito. Com base nos estudos sistemáticos que foram feitos – testes do protótipo construído em instituições que prestam serviços de cuidados domiciliares – procedeu-se ao desenvolvimento e proposta de uma metodologia para dar banho a acamados. Esta metodologia é sistemática, genérica e não depende do sistema de banho utilizado. É, por isso, um dos principais contributos desta tese de doutoramento.
This doctoral thesis presents the work developed in the field of Ambient Assisted Living, more specifically in the caregiving of bedridden people. From a global viewpoint caregiving of bedridden comprises the following areas: hygiene, comfort, safety, mobility and medical care. Usually two caregivers are required for nursing a bedridden patient. In the framework of this thesis it is aimed to develop applications, which enable one person to perform all care tasks of a bedridden. Therefore, the entire study takes the main user’s perspective into account, the caregiver, who is responsible for a wide range of tasks, suffering physical and psychological exhaustion over time. Considering the high spectrum of possible operational fields and the elaboration of a doctoral thesis in Ambient Assisted Living, it was necessary to focus the work in one specific area. Preliminary studies were carried out by means of questionnaires to collect caregiver’s opinions. Based on these studies, it was concluded that the most important area to develop a novel equipment solution being used solely by one caregiver is the bath. Thus, the main objective of this doctoral thesis is the development of a methodology to assist caregivers during bathing in a home environment. In this respect, the new design of a bathing system is made up of two modules: i) heating and water supply at a defined temperature and flowrate required for the bath, and ii) an inflatable mattress, which enables to bath a bedridden while using the patient’s bed as physical support. Based on subsequent systematic studies that have been conducted by to test the prototype in institutions that provide home care services, the development also provided a new procedure that intended to assist the bathing bedridden patients. This methodology is systematic, generic and does not depend on the bathing system used. It is therefore one of the main contributions of this doctoral thesis.
