This paper examines the articulation of the letter <Ee> in Educated Nigerian English (ENE) against the psycho-sociolinguistic background of English as a Second Language (ESL), the concepts of interference and intraference. Examples were gathered from 2005 to 2013 through unstructured interviews, participant and non-participant observation, and the recording of spontaneous speech. Methods of data analysis are qualitative and quantitative. The ordinal data are presented in percentile and frequency tables and charts and the linguistic texts are described and explained. The study established that as a result of intraference, educated Nigerians mix up the various RP realizations of the letter <e>. As the articulations examined here are institutionalized in ENE and as they have both national and international intelligibility, it is proposed that they be treated as variations that typify ESL varieties.

Quantitative research is still dominant in public policy, but qualitative methods are being increasingly used as sources of primary data. In addition to their main practical purpose, qualitative applied policy research studies are used to legitimize public policy programs, social interventions, and initiatives. Compared to quantitative research, qualitative methods provide insight into the contextual and complex situational factors, which may be highly relevant for successful social interventions. Focus group interviews are commonly used in social interventions for data collection. Focus group interviews may contribute to a better articulation of implicit opinions and preferences, and enable triangulation based on multiple perspectives and information (beneficiaries, stakeholders). We argue that focus groups in public policy research and social interventions are based on the same methodological principles as focus groups in basic research, including sampling, facilitation, and ethical issues. Some modifications are necessary due to the main purpose of focus groups (the intervention), situational factors, and logistic fieldwork issues.

ABSTRACT Background Burnout continues to erode the physician workforce, and there are few effective intervention studies to guide educators. Objective We explored residents' experience in a model environment emphasizing resident wellness, safety, and interpersonal skills. Methods As 1 of 14 participants in the national Preparing the Personal Physician for Practice (P4) project, the family medicine residency at Lehigh Valley Health Network implemented a series of curricular changes designed to transform the culture of education. This mixed-methods case study utilizes the results from 3 quantitative self-report instruments for well-being, along with content analysis of transcripts from 20 focus groups and 33 resident advising sessions to describe experiences of the residents enrolled between July 2007 and June 2012. Results In the intervention, we found no statistically significant quantitative differences in the well-being of residents compared with the family medicine faculty and staff. Deductive (a priori and template) analysis and inductive thematic analysis of the residents' articulations of their experiences revealed 6 recurrent themes: naming/articulation of emotions, relationships, attitudes about self-care, self-reflection, delivery of learning experiences, and availability of resources. Conclusions Quantitative measures of well-being did not capture the experiential value of the curricular innovations implemented by the residency program, while qualitative analysis highlighted themes important to residents. While not all residents in the intervention expressed support for the changes, repeated references to the nurturing educational environment indicate recognition of, and favorable responses to, the creation of an emotionally intelligent learning community.

The growing popularity of contrastive phonology as a branch of linguis-tics is seen now, in particular, due to the spread of bilingualism and multilin-gualism. Globalization involves the ability to speak several languages, in the study of which the phonetic level is primarily considered. The purpose of this work is to examine and describe the most likely consequences arising from in-terference in the articulation of vowel sounds in the English-language speech of Germans who study English as a foreign language. The article deals with monophthongs, diphthongs, and triphthongs, dis-cusses possible variations in the articulation of sounds, as well as the processes of reduction, elision, and substitution. Descriptive and comparative methods are the leading ones in the work, however, the instrumental method is also used to determine deviations from the norm and the nature of changes in articulation. The paper identifies a number of trends in the articulation of English sounds by Germans and reveals the reasons of the main difficulties which stu-dents face while studying phonetic norms of RP and speaking German as their native language, i.e. the qualitative and quantitative mismatch of allophones. The achievement of this goal testifies to the theoretical significance of this work, namely, the possibility of further detailed research in the field of sociophonetics and phonostylistics.

Introduction. The wide variety of methods for recording occlusal contacts and the contradictory data on the interpretation of the obtained markings provoked us to make a comparative laboratory study between different occlusal indicators. Purpose. Evaluation of a qualitative and quantitative method for registration of occlusal contacts in static occlusion in laboratory conditions. Materials and Methods. In completion of the objective, we designed an apparatus for registration of the occlusal contacts (AROC) in static occlusion which is used, corresponding to the MIP in clinical conditions. The occlusal indicators that were included in the study were articulating paper 100 μ, articulating foil 12 μ, and T-Scan Novus system with a sensor thickness of 100 μ. The collected primary statistical information was entered and processed with the statistical package SPSS Statistics 19.0, and the graphs were prepared using Microsoft Office 2019. We performed descriptive statistical analysis in this study. Comparisons were performed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Student’s t -test, and Pearson coefficient method. For a significance level, p < 0.05 was chosen. Result and Discussion. With quality occlusal indicators, it is possible only to visually determine the size, number, and intensity of the marked contacts. After the statistical processing of the obtained data on the number of registered contacts, a significant difference is found in the number of contacts of certain teeth (18, 24, 25, 28, 38, 35, 34, 33, 44, 45, and 48) registered with articulating paper and articulating foil. The maximum force that is reported during the study with the T-Scan system is 93.72% and the forces in the right half of the dentition are 51.7% and in the left 48.9%. To visualize the location of the registered occlusal contacts with the system, it is intraoral to use a quality indicator and we recommend the use of articulating foil. Conclusion. Based on findings from the current in vitro simulation, we can conclude that the type of occlusal indicator influences the registration of contacts, and therefore, we propose as a method of choice to achieve a balanced occlusion in clinical practice to combine the use of one conventional and one quantitative method.

Background: Arthroscopy may be utilized for treatment of septic arthritis of the pediatric knee, with success reported in ages from 3 months to 12 years. There is limited data on the ability to arthroscopically assess articular structures and ensure adequate evaluation without arthrotomy. Hypothesis/Purpose: The purpose of this study is: (1) utilize arthroscopy in small cadaveric knees to improve qualitative and quantitative knowledge of pediatric articular structures and (2) to obtain pilot data for common procedures performed in pediatric patients Methods: Five small pediatric cadaveric specimens (1-4 years) underwent arthroscopy (2.7 mm Stryker arthroscope). Medial and lateral compartments were assessed for meniscus size/mobility/height, compartmental joint space, ACL insertion, patellar chondral height and length, and position of the medial patellofemoral ligament were recorded. Utilizing standard anterior medial and lateral portals, the ability to visualize the structures of the posteromedial and posterolateral compartments was recorded. Procedures pertinent to immature ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair (unstable discoid) were critically evaluated to provide source data for future work. Results: Prior to arthroscopy, all specimens underwent volume-assessed knee insufflation (average 11.4 cc normal saline). Arthroscopic visualization of the menisco-capsular attachment was possible posteromedially in 4/6, and posterolaterally in 5/6 knees. Qualitative arthroscopic relationships were similar to adult references; including patellar-trochlear articulation and lateral meniscal positional relationship to the ACL insertion (see Figure 1). The ACL center was within 2 mm of the posterior aspect of the anterior horn of the lateral meniscus in all specimens. The average height of the medial compartment space under valgus load was 1.5 mm (1 – 2 mm), and lateral space under varus was 2.2 mm (2-3 mm); further emphasizing the need for small joint instruments. The width of the medial and lateral menisci are noted in Table 1. All-inside meniscal devices designed for skeletally mature specimens should be used with caution (Figure 1). Traditionally described inside-out technique for immature ACL reconstruction with an iliotibial band demonstrated significant proximity of the passing device to the neurovascular bundle (Figure 1). Conclusion: The entirety of the small knee is assessable via standard diagnostic arthroscopy, when a 2.7mm arthroscope is utilized. These findings suggest that intra-articular pathology can be reliably identified utilizing this surgical technique. However, the ability to work on the infant meniscus and cartilage with standard arthroscopic instruments is likely limited given the constraints of joint height. [Table: see text][Figure: see text]

AbstractBackground: Normal occlusal and articulation relations between the jaws ensure equal distribution of occlusal forces during mastication. A T-SCAN system allows these relations to be measured dynamically during the articulation cycle.Aim: To evaluate the T-SCAN III system in measuring and assessing the forces of occlusal contacts and their digital presentation.Patients and methods: Thirty students aged 19 - 22 years were examined. Of these only one matched the study criteria:- intact dentition;- without or with class I fillings in teeth 36 or 46;- Angle’s class I jaw relationWe used a computerized occlusal analysis system T-SCAN in the study. It comes with a registering sensor for the occlusal contacts, a module for transmitting the signals to a computer, and conversion software to generate images on a computer screen. Results: We evaluated the system’s capabilities in registering the occlusal contacts during mastication on an occlusion film and the occlusal forces using a digital display. Conclusion: The T-SCAN system provides the only accurate way to determine and evaluate the time sequence and force of occlusal contacts by converting the qualitative data into quantitative and displaying them digitally.

Purpose – Mixed methods research can provide a fruitful line of inquiry for educational leadership, program evaluation, and policy analysis; however, mixed methods research requires a metatheory that allows for mixing what have traditionally been considered incompatible qualitative and quantitative inquiry. The purpose of this paper is to apply Jürgen Habermas’s Theory of Communicative Action as that metatheoretical justification. Design/methodology/approach – After reviewing the traditional quantitative/qualitative divide based on incompatible ontologies, the author argues for a pragmatist stance toward educational leadership inquiry. Such a stance allows for mixing methods because it privileges methodology and epistemology in social inquiry, rather than ontological theories of reality. Using Habermas’s metatheory, the author shows how truth claims are linguistically mediated; how they make reference to objective, subjective, and normative formal worlds; and how they are always fallible and revisable. Findings – The author argues that Habermas’s metatheory allows (and requires) integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches to fully understand social phenomena. Such integration is possible if researchers attempt to make methodological decisions explicit by linking methodology (and thus methodical decisions) to all three formal worlds, and articulating the rationale for doing so. The author also argues that making the entire corpus of claims bound within a line of social inquiry subject to critical examination promotes the validity of inquiry. Originality/value – This paper contributes to the discussion on mixed methods research by applying a particular strand of pragmatism. This is an advance in the extant literature, which argues for a pragmatist stance on mixed methods research, but has not yet conceptualized a metatheoretical position supporting this stance.

This article analyzes the implementation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) I: Eradicate poverty. Despite the progress achieved, structural gaps persist and substantially limit the NFIS’s contribution to poverty reduction, especially among rural, indigenous, extreme poverty, and other vulnerable groups. The article employs a mixed methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. On the qualitative side, a hermeneutic documentary analysis of the NFIS and related regulations was carried out, with a critical textual interpretation supported by specialized software. Quantitatively, descriptive statistical techniques were applied to analyze official financial inclusion indicators—methodological integration was achieved through analytical triangulation under a concurrent mixed methods approach. The progress of initiatives under the NFIS was evaluated, identifying limitations such as the digital divide in rural areas, limited financing for Micro and Small Enterprises, gaps in financial education, and growing exposure to digital fraud. Although the NFIS promotes greater access to financial services, it does not explicitly focus on the poorest and most excluded populations. Therefore, it is recommended that the objectives and indicators of the NFIS be reformulated to focus on universal access and effective use of financial services by the population in extreme poverty and chronic exclusion. In addition, a strategic articulation with social protection policies is necessary, as well as promoting culturally relevant microfinance and inclusive finance models, strengthening consumer protection, and consolidating public–private alliances in high-poverty areas. Finally, strong monitoring and accountability are also key.

Articulation modeling, feature extraction, and classification are the important components of pedestrian segmentation. Usually, these components are modeled independently from each other and then combined in a sequential way. However, this approach is prone to poor segmentation if any individual component is weakly designed. To cope with this problem, we proposed a spatio-temporal convolutional neural network named PedNet which exploits temporal information for spatial segmentation. The backbone of the PedNet consists of an encoder–decoder network for downsampling and upsampling the feature maps, respectively. The input to the network is a set of three frames and the output is a binary mask of the segmented regions in the middle frame. Irrespective of classical deep models where the convolution layers are followed by a fully connected layer for classification, PedNet is a Fully Convolutional Network (FCN). It is trained end-to-end and the segmentation is achieved without the need of any pre- or post-processing. The main characteristic of PedNet is its unique design where it performs segmentation on a frame-by-frame basis but it uses the temporal information from the previous and the future frame for segmenting the pedestrian in the current frame. Moreover, to combine the low-level features with the high-level semantic information learned by the deeper layers, we used long-skip connections from the encoder to decoder network and concatenate the output of low-level layers with the higher level layers. This approach helps to get segmentation map with sharp boundaries. To show the potential benefits of temporal information, we also visualized different layers of the network. The visualization showed that the network learned different information from the consecutive frames and then combined the information optimally to segment the middle frame. We evaluated our approach on eight challenging datasets where humans are involved in different activities with severe articulation (football, road crossing, surveillance). The most common CamVid dataset which is used for calculating the performance of the segmentation algorithm is evaluated against seven state-of-the-art methods. The performance is shown on precision/recall, F 1 , F 2 , and mIoU. The qualitative and quantitative results show that PedNet achieves promising results against state-of-the-art methods with substantial improvement in terms of all the performance metrics.

Introduction A phoniatrist analyzes the professional's voice at the beginning of his vocal studies or career but also later, in cases of voice disorder. Phoniatric examination of professional singers must be done according to "all inclusive" protocols of examination. Such protocols must establish the status of basic elements of phonatory system: activator generator and resonator of voice and articulatory space. Anamnesis All patients requiring phoniatric examination no matter if they are candidates for professional singers, need to provide anamnestic data about their previous problems regarding voice or singing. Clinical examination This examination is necessary and it must include: examination of nose, cavum oris, pharynx, ears and larynx. Subjective acoustic analysis This analysis is based on evaluation of physiological and pathophysiological manifestations of voice. Musical voice range Determination of musical voice range during phoniatric examination does not intend to make any classification of voice, nor to suggest to vocal teacher what he should count upon from future singers. Musical range can be determined only by a phoniatrist skilled in music or with musical training, but first of all vocal teacher. Objective acoustic analysis These methods are used for examination of phonatory function, or laryngeal pathology. They are not invasive and give objective and quantitative information. They include laryngostroboscopy, spectral analysis of voice (sonography) and fundamental parameters of voice signal (computer program). Speech examination Articulation is very important for solo singers, because good articulation contributes to qualitative emission of sound and expression of emotions. Hearing tests Tonal-threshold audiometry is performed as a hearing test. Additional tests They include rhinomanometry, vital capacity measurements maximal phonation time and phonation quotient. Conclusion Phoniatric examination is a necessary proceeding which must be performed before admission to the academy of solo singing, and then during singers' education and career. The phoniatric protocol must include a minimal number of parameters, which can be increased if required. All parameters of phoniatric examination must be adequatly evaluated by experts.

IntroductionMental health services are stretched in the UK and are in need of support. One approach that could improve mental health symptoms is osteopathy. Research suggests that osteopathy influences psychophysiological factors, which could lead to improvements in mental health. The first objective of this protocol is to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of four osteopathic interventions. A secondary aim is to evaluate the interventions’ effectiveness for improving psychophysiological and mental health outcomes. Methods and analysisThis study will be an explanatory mixed-methods design. Participants will be 30 adults who have mild to moderate mental health symptoms and not experiencing any issues with pain. The feasibility and acceptability of the interventions will be the primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes will be physiological measures including heart rate variability, interoceptive accuracy and blood pressure. Psychological outcomes, collected preintervention and postintervention, will also be measured by five standardised questionnaires, which include: (1) the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS); (2) the International Positive and Negative Affect Schedule-Short-Form; (3) Acceptance and Action Questionnaire-II; (4) the Self as Context Scale and (5) and the Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness Version 2. Participants will be randomised to one of four intervention groups and receive a single intervention treatment session. These intervention groups are: (1) high-velocity and articulation techniques, (2) soft-tissue massage, (3) craniosacral techniques, and (4) a combination of these three approaches. Mixed design two (preintervention and postintervention) by the four interventions analysis of covariance models will be used to analyse the quantitative data for each quantitative measure. Participants will also be interviewed about their experiences of the study and interventions and a thematic analysis will be used to analyse this qualitative data. This will aid the assessment of the feasibility and acceptability of the study design.Ethics and disseminationThe protocol for this feasibility study has received ethical approval from the Department of Psychology Ethics Committee at Swansea University, ethical review reference number: 2022-5603-4810. Feasibility results from this protocol will be published in a peer review journal and presented at both national and international conferences.DiscussionThis study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of conducting osteopathic interventions for improving mental health outcomes. The results from this will help to inform the development of a future randomised controlled trial. The study will also produce original data which could provide preliminary evidence of whether osteopathic approaches are of benefit to individual’s mental health in the form of effect sizes, even if they are pain-free.Trial registration numberNCT05674071.

From all observations and methods that have been carried out by the author while conducting research, the results of the analysis show that the solo vocal technique in singing the song Be Still My Soul by Khatrina Von Schelegel for fifth semester students at the Tarutung IAKN Church Music Education Program really needs vocal technique training properly. and lead to difficulties in singing the song Be Still My Soul. The author chose one of the songs that had been sung by the fifth semester students of PMG IAKN Tarutung when studying Vocal III courses in the 2020/2021 academic year by singing the song "Be Still My Soul" using their own accompaniment either through digital media, such as karaoke or own accompaniment by playing the keyboard or piano. The song was sampled in the Solo Vocal Technique of the fifth semester students of PMG IAKN Tarutung which was performed by the author. Keywords: solo vocal technique, singing

The article describes the experience of using laser puncturing methods for dysarthria in children with all forms of cerebral palsy. Statistical data of treated children with dysarthria by age, types of dysarthria and the results of course treatment with laser punctures on the s calp zones and acupuncture points of the corporeal meridians were analyzed and points of the auricle depending on the form of cerebral palsy and the type of dysarthria according to the pathogenetic criterion in 334 children for the period from 2017 to 2019. Based on the visual study of the volume of active movements of articulatory muscles, qualitative and quantitative dynamics of speech activity, a conclusion was made about the positive effectiveness in 200 (63 %) children. The greatest effectiveness was observed among children over 7 years of age – 60 % (200 children) and in pseudobulbar 79 % (197 children), cerebellar 77 % (31 children), subcortical 52 % (13 children) dysarthria. The lowest effectiveness was observed in children with severe forms of dysarthria by the degree of intelligibility to others (classification of J. Tardieu) 40 % (134 children) and in children under 7 years of age (32 %), with mixed dysarthria 45 % (9 children). The results of treatment allow us to conclude that the laser puncturing it is effective and should be systematically (1 time in 3 months if possible) included in the complex of sanatorium-resort rehabilitation for dysarthria in children with cerebral palsy, which will speed up the recovery time of articulation.

Nowadays, technologies play a key role in educational research processes, especially in the context of complex designs or integrative perspectives (qualitative and quantitative). Affordances provided by new tools and technological devices are constantly impacting the way educational research is carried out. Consequently, this growing importance (and dependence on) technology for educational research calls for a deeper reflection, not only about its clear benefits, but also about its potential drawbacks and limitations. This paper explores this tension in a specific mixed-methods research design aimed at understanding the barriers preventing the adoption of Learning Design (LD) tools/methods, a significant problem in the research field of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). Different actors (teachers and researchers) were involved in the research design, which included a systematic literature review, a Delphi study and a case study. Such an articulated design required the adoption of technologies to support the process in all its phases. The paper describes the main methodological implications of the employed technologies in the different methods applied and in the overall research. The conclusions of the paper highlight that while technologies definitely support a higher level of complexity and articulation of the research design, they might also lead to superficial or biased results.

The aim of the research. Analysis of the ways, forms and methods of applying the conjugate method of technical training of kyokushin athletes. Research methods and organization. Analysis and compilation of the existing scientific and coaching experience in applying the conjugate method in martial arts and kyokushinkai. Research results and discussion. The conjugate method of technical training of a kyokushin athlete should not be limited to conjugation with elements of general or special physical training. It should involve conjugation of technical elements with training exercises of almost all training components, including tactics. This contributes to the interconnected improvement of elements of technics and tactics, physical qualities and special physical conditions, tactical and technical skills, as it establishes optimal quantitative and qualitative relations between them that corresponds to the specifics of kyokushinkai. The conjugate method also adds emotional dimension to training sessions, and most importantly, it can significantly save and optimally use the training time. The article proposes two forms and three ways to implement the conjugation of technical training in kyokushinkai. The authors have systematized and structured each conjugate form and method, and they give specific application examples for each method. Conclusion The research resulted in the articulation, compilation and structuring of principles, forms and ways of utilizing the conjugate method of technical training of kyokushin athletes, with case studies of its application. Coaches and instructors can use the described principles to develop tasks and exercises associated with approaches of the conjugate training method depending on the goals and objectives of the training process, available equipment and simulators, the training stage / block, athlete's traits, etc.

This article combines qualitative and quantitative methods to examine affectivity in discussions on Twitter about the first years of a pilot programme for medicinal cannabis in Denmark. Starting in 2018, the pilot programme has been the object of much public discussion, including on social media. Drawing on data from the platform Twitter and affect theory from Sara Ahmed (2010 , 2014 ), the article uses a combination of computational methods and close readings to locate and analyse which topics in the debate are particularly affectively charged and what the implications of this affectivity are. The article argues that the circulation of affect here is rooted in wider negotiations and hierarchies of knowledge as this relates to medicine and bodies. In particular, ideas and discourses relating to evidence are circulated in the debate as an object of varying articulations of hopes, dreams, and frustration.

Background Police officers are often the first responders to mental health-related incidents and, consequently, can become a common gateway to care. The volume of such calls is an increasing challenge. Objective What is the evidence base for models of police-related mental health triage (often referred to as ‘street triage’) interventions? Design Rapid evidence synthesis. Participants Individuals perceived to be experiencing mental ill health or in a mental health crisis. Interventions Police officers responding to calls involving individuals experiencing perceived mental ill health or a mental health crisis, in the absence of suspected criminality or a criminal charge. Main outcome measures Inclusion was not restricted by outcome. Data sources Eleven bibliographic databases (i.e. Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts, Criminal Justice Abstracts, EMBASE, MEDLINE, PAIS® Index, PsycINFO, Scopus, Social Care Online, Social Policy & Practice, Social Sciences Citation Index and Social Services Abstracts) and multiple online sources were searched for relevant systematic reviews and qualitative studies from inception to November 2017. Additional primary studies reporting quantitative data published from January 2016 were also sought. Review methods The three-part rapid evidence synthesis incorporated metasynthesis of the effects of street triage-type intervention models, rapid synthesis of UK-relevant qualitative evidence on implementation and the overall synthesis. Results Five systematic reviews, eight primary studies reporting quantitative data and eight primary studies reporting qualitative data were included. Most interventions involved police officers working in partnership with mental health professionals. These interventions were generally valued by staff and showed some positive effects on procedures (such as rates of detention) and resources, although these results were not entirely consistent and not all important outcomes were measured. Most of the evidence was at risk of multiple biases caused by design flaws and/or a lack of reporting of methods, which might affect the results. Limitations All primary research was conducted in England, so may not be generalisable to the whole of the UK. Discussion of health equity issues was largely absent from the evidence. Conclusions Most published evidence that aims to describe and evaluate various models of street triage interventions is limited in scope and methodologically weak. Several systematic reviews and recent studies have called for a prospective, comprehensive and streamlined collection of a wider variety of data to evaluate the impact of these interventions. This rapid evidence synthesis expands on these recommendations to outline detailed implications for research, which includes clearer articulation of the intervention’s objectives, measurement of quantitative outcomes beyond section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983 [Great Britain. Mental Health Act 1983. Section 136. London: The Stationery Office; 1983 URL: www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1983/20/section/136 (accessed October 2017)] (i.e. rates, places of safety and processing data) and outcomes that are most important to the police, mental health and social care services and service users. Evaluations should take into consideration shorter-, medium- and longer-term effects. Whenever possible, study designs should have an appropriate concurrent comparator, for example by comparing the pragmatic implementation of collaborative street triage models with models that emphasise specialist training of police officers. The collection of qualitative data should capture dissenting views as well as the views of advocates. Any future cost-effectiveness analysis of these interventions should evaluate the impact across police, health and social services. Funding The National Institute for Health Research Health Services and Delivery Research programme.

The publication offers research and the obtained results on an alternative way of organizing the study process – an out-of-practice internship, within the framework of which the spiritual well-being of the students of the Faculty of Theology (TF) is improved. Spirituality is one of the components that ensures the sustainability of interfaith / intercultural dialogue. Further components include an inclusive learning environment that promotes the development of individual spirituality and spiritual well-being; the dialogical practice of participating in interfaith dialogue, which allows the articulation of the “core identities” of different (non)religious traditions and the acceptance of “dignified disagreements” between different worldviews, is spiritually transformative. The focus of dialogue is based on such principles. It is not founded in the formation of common views, but instead – on the mutual enrichment of each other’s experience, which promotes the individual spiritual growth of each participant in the study process. A set of spiritually transforming and otherness-promoting pedagogical methods was tested in August 2019 at the University of Latvia (UL) TF field trip – an applied theology training practice “Sandbija 2019”, Sweden. During the approbation process, a quasi-pedagogical experiment was performed with a mixed research methodology – two measurements of the spiritual well-being of the research participants (before and after the pedagogical intervention) were performed, supplemented with qualitative data (participants’ diary entries) to explain the quantitative data. The results of the study reveal that the internship programme, which was developed according to E. J. Tisdella’s principles, improves participants’ spiritual well-being and is positively assessed by students.

The urgency to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the face of climate change has increased interest in studies on innovation niches in food systems. Strategic Niche Management in the framework of the Multi-Level Perspective considers that deep learning must be achieved in experimenting with innovations and demands greater understanding of instrumental aspects to guide the evolution of a niche. This study proposes to assess the progress of innovative performance towards sustainability of small and medium livestock enterprises in the Southwest of Buenos Aires, a fragile region of the Pampas biome of Argentina, as a result of learning generated in rural extension activities of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) in order to identify leverage points in the process of technological change towards more sustainable systems. An exploratory-descriptive study was carried out using qualitative-quantitative methods. Ten producers were interviewed and the MESMIS method was proposed for the construction of indicators and assessment of learning goals towards sustainability. A rapprochement of producers from modal practices to more innovative ones was observed, reflecting conditions for the progress and consolidation of the niche. However, they need for greater professionalization and institutional articulation. The study generated a measurement instrument for the self-assessment of the niche enterprises and the planning of INTA's intervention strategies. It sought to broaden empirical research in Latin America, which is still scarce in approaches to socio-technical transitions, and to advance in the evaluation of experiments in transformative innovations on the agenda for the literature.

The constructs of servant leadership (SL) and emotional intelligence (EI) have gained considerable interest in the discipline of managerial leadership, both within academic discourse and in the human capital management and development arena. However, empirical evidence showed the need for further research on both constructs using the mixed methods approach. The purpose of this research was to explore the role of an integrated servant leadership and emotional intelligence leadership skills program in enhancing leadership performance in Zimbabwe’s commercial banking sector. A mixed methods research triangulation concurrent design was adopted for the research study conducted from 2014 to 2015. A survey questionnaire was used to collect quantitative data from 211 middle, senior and executive managerial staff in the commercial banking sector. SPSS version 22.0 was used to analyze the quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected from a purposive sample of eight senior to executive managers using a structured interview guide and multimedia recording equipment. The qualitative data were analyzed using NVIVO version 10 software package to create themes. The findings showed that servant leadership and emotional intelligence characteristics complement each other and both constructs can be integrated into a managerial leadership program used to develop leadership soft skills or competencies. The findings also showed that both SL and EI skills had a positive influence in enhancing the managers’ effectiveness in undertaking leadership responsibilities and on leadership qualitative performance measures such as articulating vision and strategy, building and sustaining productive organizational culture, development and retention of talent, enhancing employee engagement, improving stakeholder relationship management, retaining bank customers, promotion of diversity, value creation and community involvement. The study led to the development of an integrated SL and EI soft skills leadership program and model which, if implemented, could lead to leadership skills development and performance enhancement. Intermodal practices are related to the use of several distinct modes of transport during the same displacement. This study analyses the articulation between institutional transport insured by motorbike taxis and the Lomé Transport Company (Sotral) in Grand Lomé. In particular, it explores two intermodal practices between both actors, mainly the drawdown and broadcasting of Sotral users on/and from bus stopping, the main intermodality points after the bus stations in Grand Lomé. The methodology relies on a mixed approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods for data collection and analysis. The first descriptive approach has allowed us to observe the phenomenon, to reinforce knowledge through the analysis of documents, and to obtain actors’ opinions. The second quantitative approach is based on the interviews carried out with drivers and motorbike taxi and bus users, the counting of broadcasting and drawdown modes at the stopping points, and the mapping of the study area as well as the Sotral network. The results show that the current facilities of Sotral bus stopping points do not encourage/promote the interaction and/or cohabitation between different modes of transport, such as motorbike taxis. These infrastructures are out of phase with the intermodal practices of the population of Grand Lomé, who use artisanal and structured public transport in their daily movements. In fact, motorbike taxis do not have a dedicated facility for drop-off/pick-up of passengers at the Sotral bus stopping points. The drawdown and broadcasting by these means of artisanal transport at bus stops are generally made on sidewalks and sometimes on roadways, which is a source of road insecurity. This failure leads to friction between Sotral and motorbike taxis on the use of facilities dedicated to Sotral buses, creating an absence of cohabitation between two main actors of mobility in Grand Lomé. An approach focused on the flexibility and efficiency of intermodal points or the connection between motorbike taxis and Sotral allows good coexistence and constitutes a component of a sustainable mobility strategy.

This descriptive study aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities of the local government of Digos in its endeavor for the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and the Performance Challenge Fund (PCF). Mixed methods research design was employed, particularly the convergent parallel approach. The qualitative part constructed the enabling factors and areas for improvement in the implementation of the SGLG and PCF based on accounts of personnel of the City Government who were directly involved in the assessment and preparations, representatives of oversight government agencies relevant to the seven SGLG criteria and PCF project beneficiaries. The quantitative part described the level of perceptions on the contribution of the SGLG and PCF to improved local governance in the City based on a survey to the constituents. Thematic analysis and descriptive statistics were used to process the data. It was found that the enabling factors in the accomplishment of the SGLG award of Digos City were anticipation, articulation and delegation, while areas for improvement were risk aversion, information and data management, participation and devolution. The perception of the people of Digos City also revealed a high level of agreement (x=3.98, n=399) that the SGLG and PCF elicited improved local governance. Considering each criteria of the SGLG, it was found that the areas on financial administration and business friendliness and competitiveness have garnered very high levels of perception. Based on these findings, it was inferred that the challenges for Digos City for better implementation of the SGLG law in the future are risk management and increasing spaces for participation while the opportunities are implementation of e-governance and increasing capacity for decentralization.

Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects, which include teacher competencies, knowledge, self-image, motivation, and personality traits, distinguishes high-performing teachers from average teachers in school education. The Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects model is the sum of the competency characteristics required for the specific role of a teacher, and it is a set of characteristics developed in response to the professional performance and task requirements of the teacher. This paper adopts a systematic literature review method to analyze the research results on teachers' research competency in China since the 21st century. Horizontally, the number of literature types first increases and then stabilizes, the publishing journals are concentrated, and the research topics are diverse; vertically, the definition of teacher research competency includes hybrid, behavioral, and trait theory; the cultivation goals of teacher research competency range from breakpoint separation to articulation and integration, the cultivation process ranges from theory acquisition to participation in creation, and the cultivation methods range from primary and secondary schools based to demand-based. The construction of a teacher research competency model helps in teacher recruitment, research competency development, and assessment; the construction methods include qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research; specific strategies involve sample selection, competency indicator determination, and subjective influence control. This study selected high-performing primary and secondary school outstanding teachers as a valid sample, used the event interview method, adopted the classical BEI competency modeling method, analyzed key behavioral events that occurred in teachers’ past teaching work, examined performance behaviors, explored identifying and conceptualizing Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects characteristics, determined outstanding Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects criteria through retrospective interview evaluations of graduates, explored key elements of teachers’ long-term impact on students, compared outstanding teachers with ordinary teachers, and constructed a model of primary and secondary school Competence of Teaching or Scientific Projects to provide an effective basis for teacher selection, training, and assessment. Future research needs to increase research perspectives, broaden research themes, and innovate research methods.

Abstract. Despite having a suicide rate that is consistently higher than the national Canadian average, our understanding of suicide within First-Nation Canadians is limited. Furthermore, our historical research endeavors in this area have tended to focus on clarifying characteristic symptoms, symptom clusters, and risk factors; establishing causal links; and identifying clinical phenomena associated with the presence of increased risk and have tended to use quantitative methods. The “voice” of the suicidal First-Nation person is largely “silent” within this literature and, as a result, any understanding we have of this issue is unbalanced and incomplete. Accordingly, this paper makes the case for adding a complementary (or shifting the existing) research emphasis for studying suicide within First-Nation Canadian communities. It suggests a complimentary strategic research activity that is more concerned with qualitative methods: A model that augments the current understanding of the “developmental-existential” model of suicide by accessing and articulating the “voices” of the First-Nation people themselves.

The paper proposes a technology transfer system for Latin American countries based on the Latin American model of technology transfer and the digital information obtained. Theoretical methods are used taking into account the analysis of qualitative information, quantitative data is required from the number of specific digital access documents. The Latin American model of technology transfer shows the need to establish technology transfer projects and offices, to which is added a monitoring of the transferred results. It was confirmed that Higher Education Institutions need technological surveillance observatories to evaluate changes, trends and possible transformations in the implementation of technology transfer processes and systems. In conclusion, Latin American countries could develop new models or systems of technology transfer emphasizing changes in the relationship system between the key elements, in particular the University and the business sector, and include the technology transfer offices as an articulating entity between the two.

The purpose of this study is to develop research instruments that enable analysis of the contribution of co-operatives to sustainable development. We achieve this by posing three research questions that explore the links between co-operative principles (CPs) and sustainable development goals (SDGs). Data obtained using qualitative methods guided the development of a quantitative survey tool designed to systematically measure the contribution of co-operatives to sustainable development (RQ1). This study also provides empirical evidence of a strong alignment between CPs and SDGs (RQ2). Whereas earlier studies began with forms of wealth and/or SDGs and connected them to CPs, this study contributes to the knowledge by articulating how co-operatives, as a movement, contribute to all SDGs by operationalising CPs 1-3 and 5-7 agreed by the International Cooperative Alliance. Finally, this study found a high level of support within the co-operative movement for the SDG framework (RQ3).

AbstractDeaf sign language users oftentimes claim to be able to recognise straight away whether their interlocutors are native signers. To date it is unclear, however, what exactly such judgement calls might be based on. The aim of the research presented was to explore whether specific articulatory features are being associated with signers that have (allegedly) acquired German Sign Language (Deutsche Gebärdensprache, DGS) as their first language. The study is based on the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were generated in ten focus group settings. Each group was made up of three participants and one facilitator. Deaf participants’ meta-linguistic claims concerning linguistic features of ‘native signing’ (i. e. what native signing looks like) were qualitatively analysed using grounded theory methods. Quantitative data were generated via a language assessment experiment designed around stimulus material extracted from DGS corpus data. Participants were asked to judge whether or not individual clips extracted from a DGS corpus had been produced by a native signer. Against the backdrop of the findings identified in the focus group data, the stimulus material was subsequently linguistically analysed in order to identify specific linguistic features that might account for some clips to be judged as ‘produced by a native signer’ as opposed to others that were claimed to have been ‘articulated by a non-native signer’. Through juxtaposing meta-linguistic perspectives, the results of a language perception experiment and the linguistic analysis of the stimulus material, the study brings to the fore specific crystallisation points of linguistic and social features indexing linguistic authenticity. The findings break new ground in that they suggest that the face as articulator in general, and micro-prosodic features expressed in the movement of eyes, eyebrows and mouth in particular, play a significant role in the perception of others as (non-)native signers.

Political parties have a strategic function in actualize of good governance through representation and recruitment functions. The function of representation is a form of accountability of political parties to the public by absorbing aspirations, articulating and aggregating society's interests into laws, regulations, and policies, as well as overseeing the implementation of public policies. The function representation of political parties also includes forming and running an accountable and effective government, controlling corruption, and strengthening political stability. This study aims to analyze the causes of the governance function of representation and recruitment of the Golkar Party as a political party institution that has not optimally actualize good governance in the reform era. This study also formulates a governance model for the representation and recruitment functions of the Golkar Party, which can promote good governance. The research method uses mixed methods or mixed methods research (MMR), combining quantitative and qualitative approaches with exploratory sequential mixed methods models. The theoretical approach used is the political party representation theory of Bartolini Mair (2001), and Szymanek (2015), and the political party recruitment theory approach put forward by Pippa Norris (2006). The results showed that the governance of the function representation of the Golkar Party in the reform era did not function optimally because the function representation was still electoral, and the strong interests and presence of rent-seekers made the Golkar Party not autonomous, not free from oligarchy and corruption. This study recommends an excellent political party governance model with a functional aspirational house model and a model of educational institutions, regeneration, and recruitment.

Background Current Canadian Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) legislation requires individuals to have the mental capacity to consent at the time of the procedure. Advance requests for MAiD (ARs for MAiD) could allow individuals to document conditions where MAiD would be desired in the setting of progressive dementia. Methods Greater Vancouver area dementia care clinicians from family practice, geriatric medicine, geriatric psychiatry, and palliative care were approached to participate in an online survey to assess attitudes around the appropriateness of ARs for MAiD. Quantitative analysis of survey questions and qualitative analysis of open-ended response questions were performed. Results Of 630 clinicians approached, 80 were included in the data analysis. 64% of respondents supported legislation allowing ARs for MAiD in dementia. 96% of respondents articulated barriers and concerns, including determination of capacity, protecting the interests of the future individual, navigating conflict among stakeholders, and identifying coercion. 78% of respondents agreed with a mandatory capacity assessment to create an AR, and 59% agreed that consensus between clinicians and substitute decision-makers was required to enact an AR. Conclusion The majority of Vancouver dementia care clinicians participating in this study support legislation allowing ARs for MAiD in dementia, while also articulating ethical and logistical concerns with its application.

Relevance. Suture fixation of dislocated IOL capsule-sac complexes to the iris is widely used at present. Violation of the correct position of the IOL affects the decrease in contrast sensitivity, the appearance of dysphotopsias and aberrations. Determining the dependence of the parameters of the IOL position on the quantitative characteristics of wave front aberrations in the delayed period will allow us to consider the applied methods of surgical treatment from the position of influencing the quality of vision.Purpose: to conduct a comparative assessment of the effect of IOL tilt and decentration on aberrometry indicators in the delayed postoperative period in patients with suture fixation of the IOL capsular-bag complex to the iris.Patients and methods. The main group consisted of 46 eyes operated on in 2014–2016 for the dislocation of capsule-bag complex by suture fixation to the iris for 2 arches. Comparison group — 30 eyes with articulation without suture fixation, having high uncorrected visual acuity (0.8–1.0). According to the study design, the indicators of both groups were determined at least 5 years after the operation. All patients had spherical IOLs. The determination of the IOL position (tilt and decentration) was carried out on RTVue OCT (Optovue, USA). Aberrometry was carried out on the OPD-Scan III, a comparative assessment of the wavefront indicators was performed: the mean square error of the total wavefront (Total RMS), general internal aberrations, tilt aberrations — “tilt”, total high-order aberrations “high”, oblique ray aberrations “Coma”.Results. Indicators of the IOL position. The main group. The average value of the angle of inclination in the horizontal meridian of the IOL was 3.07 ± 0.35°, in the vertical meridian 2.35 ± 0.25°. The decentration relative to the center of the pupil was 387.0 ± 3.4 mkm in the horizontal meridian, 443.0 ± 4.3 mkm in the vertical meridian. The comparison group. The average value of the angle of inclination in the horizontal meridian of the IOL was 3.04 ± 0.35°, in the vertical meridian 1.43 ± 0.13°. The decentration relative to the center of the pupil was 190.0 ± 2.8 mkm in the horizontal meridian, 259.0 ± 3.4 mkm in the vertical meridian. Aberrometry indicators. The main group: total RMS 0.52 ± 0.04, total internal aberrations 0.96 ± 0.04, tilt aberrations — “tilt” 0.31 ± 0.02, total high-order aberrations “high” 0.29 ± 0.01, oblique ray aberrations “Coma” 0.201 ± 0.010. The comparison group: total RMS 0.29 ± 0.03, total internal aberrations 0.66 ± 0.08, tilt aberrations — ““tilt” 0.202 ± 0.02, total high-order aberrations “high” 0.19 ± 0.07, oblique ray aberrations “Coma” 0.088 ± 0.010.The differences in the compared groups were significant (p < 0.05).The calculation of the correlation coefficient, when comparing the parameters of IOL decentration and the quantitative characteristics of aberrations, revealed a weak positive dependence, which indicates a slight influence of the obtained IOL decentration parameters on both internal aberrations and the RMS integral indicator.Conclusion. Thus, a comparative assessment of the indicators of the IOL position (tilt / decentration) and the number of wave front aberrations did not reveal a significant correlation. The correct central position of the IOL reduces wavefront aberrations and ensures high quality of vision. The method of suture fixation of the capsule-bag complexes to the iris provides a high functional and qualitative result in a delayed period.

Subject. Considering the existing environmental situation, it becomes especially important for the State to regulate the anthropogenic footprint on the environment in the Russian Federation. Current amendments to the legislative framework for environmental security are intended to ensure the innovative development of regions concurrently with a reduction in adverse environmental effects and more active environmental policy. Objectives. The research is to devise methodological tools to evaluate the efficiency of environmental policy in regions. Methods. The research employs qualitative and quantitative methods of economic analysis, including statistical and content analysis, rating, matrix zoning. The dataset proceeds from the Federal State Statistics Service, governmental reports on the current environmental situation and environmental protection in the Russian Federation. Results. We propose our own approach to evaluating the efficiency of environmental policy. It may help trace the correlation between the quality of strategic documents and changes in environmental indicators for a certain period, flag the challenging areas in terms of the environmental policy implementation and outline possible development paths. The approach extends the list of quantification indicators in line with those ones adopted internationally and presented in the Environmental Security Strategy of the Russian Federation up to 2025. We evaluated the efficiency of the environmental policy referring to the regions of the Northwestern Federal District for the period from 2012–2016. Conclusions. Having analyzed the evaluation results, most of the Northwestern regions tend to be controversial and ambivalent in setting environmental goals and achieving them. The findings may prove useful as the analytical and data basis for articulating the environmental and economic policy of the regions.

BACKGROUND: The study is of practical importance for policy makers and family planning (FP) program managers as the profile of FP method-mix with a shift from a mechanical method as intrauterine devices (IUD) to hormonal methods such as oral contraceptives (OCs) and injectables predicts a critical situation for maternal and child health and reflects shortcomings in FP service delivery program. AIM: The purpose of the current study was to identify reasons for the progressive shift from IUD to OCs in Egypt. METHODS: The study is an-operations research conducted at four levels of the Ministry of Health and Population/FP (MOHP/FP) service delivery: Central (headquarter, HQ), governorate, district, and service delivery points. It included five of MOHP/United Nations Fund for Population Activities-Contraceptive Security Project governorates that represent, urban governorates, Lower Egypt, and Upper Egypt. Both qualitative data in-depth interviews with MOHP/HQ staff, Two Focus Group Discussions with FP Health Directorates staff and nurses in the five governorates, and quantitative data through a self-administered questionnaire for 607 service providers (SP). RESULTS: There was a consensus on the actual shift from IUD to OCs use. Reasons were the absence of incentives for healthcare providers for IUD insertion services (64%) and improper training of physicians (45%), and the availability of OCs all time. CONCLUSION: The three articulating issues that lead to shifting from IUD to OCs are: Unsatisfactory training and incentive systems for SPs and the clients’ choice of OCs for independent use/autonomy, and availability of OCs all the times at a reasonable cost in both the public and private sectors.

Understanding the roots of a sense of place in farmlands is crucial for stopping rural exodus to urban areas. Farmers’ experiences related to their way of life, peace and quiet, rootedness, pleasure, and inspiration are fundamental components of a sense of place in farmlands. Here, we used the city of Pereira located in the Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia (CCLC) to examine the role of nature’s contributions to people (NCP) in forming meanings and attachments that shape their sense of place to this region. This region has experienced intense agricultural lands abandonment due to rapid urbanization over the last decades. To do so, a mixture of qualitative and quantitative methods was used, including semi-structured interviews, observation, and dialogue, to capture farmers’ perceptions and emotions associated with farmlands, reasons for remaining, and the diversity of NCPs. Results indicated that farmers recognized farmlands as a quiet and safe space that support family cohesion. Results also showed that the characteristics of the farms (e.g., agricultural practices, distance to cities, and gender) play an important role in articulating a farmer’s attachment to farmlands. Finally, farmers identified nonmaterial NCP (e.g., physical and psychological experiences and supportive identities) to be the most important contributions for shaping their sense of place. We call for the need to include robust and transparent deliberative and negotiation mechanisms that are inclusive of all relevant stakeholders, to aim to address unequal power, and to recognize and strengthen communities’ mechanisms of action on the CCLC.

Purpose: vascularized fibular grafting has been used to treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head in younger patients. Although the results described in the literature are promising, the failure rate is still significant, especially in steroid users. This study was undertaken to learn more, on a histopathological level, about the mechanism of vascularized fibular graft failure. Methods: fifteen femoral heads removed at conversion to total hip arthroplasty were analyzed. The case load comprised 10 men and 5 women. They ranged in age from 28 to 39 years and had a median age of 35 years. The interval between the vascularized fibular implant procedure and the conversion to total hip arthroplasty ranged from 22 months to 30 months; the median interval was 26 months. All the patients were steroid users. The heads were sectioned and axial and coronal sections were taken and stained using the WHO method (hematoxylin, phloxine, saffron and Alcian green). A quantitative and qualitative analysis of graft-host interaction at the head (zone 1), neck (zone 2) and epiphysis (zone 3) was performed. Results: all the specimens showed recognizable collapse of the articular surface over the area of necrosis. Thirteen femoral heads showed the presence of an osteochondral flap attached only at the margins of the area of avascular necrosis, and 10 of these 13 femoral heads also showed loss of the articulating surface with an ulcer crater corresponding to the exposed area of avascular necrosis. Conclusions: vascularized fibular graft failure seems to be related to a negative effect of creeping substitution: the revascularization becomes a negative force as it supports unbalanced bone resorption, which, as is well known, is enhanced by corticosteroids. Clinical relevance: creeping substitution is an undermining force in the repair and revascularization of the necrotic area in the femoral head.
