Анотація:

A nonlinear robust control-system design framework predicated on a hierarchical switching controller architecture parameterized over a set of moving nominal system equilibria is developed. Specifically, using equilibria-dependent Lyapunov functions, a hierarchical nonlinear robust control strategy is developed that robustly stabilizes a given nonlinear system over a prescribed range of system uncertainty by robustly stabilizing a collection of nonlinear controlled uncertain subsystems. The robust switching nonlinear controller architecture is designed based on a generalized (lower semicontinuous) Lyapunov function obtained by minimizing a potential function over a given switching set induced by the parameterized nominal system equilibria. The proposed framework robustly stabilizes a compact positively invariant set of a given nonlinear uncertain dynamical system with structured parametric uncertainty. Finally, the efficacy of the proposed approach is demonstrated on a jet engine propulsion control problem with uncertain pressure-flow map data.

La reciente intervención en el pabellón de Exposiciones, antiguo pabellón del Ministerio de la Vivienda realizado en 1959 para la IV Feria Internacional del Campo por Francisco de Asís Cabrero y Jaime Ruiz, es un interesante ejemplo de estrategias para recuperar arquitecturas, en este caso del siglo XX, ampliando su uso y su vida útil mediante la adaptación de sus espacios interiores y exteriores a nuevas necesidades ciudadanas, exigencias de accesibilidad y de acondicionamiento climático. La reha-bilitación, dentro de los “usos compatibles” previstos en el Plan Especial vigente, es parte de la iniciativa Campus Asociativo de Madrid formada por cuatro pabellones: Exposiciones, Valencia, Icona I e Icona II. En ese contexto, analizaremos las estrategias de intervención y las operaciones realizadas, a partir del estudio del edificio original y relacionándolo con otras arquitecturas de referencia, entre otros, los edificios que Mies van der Rohe realizó en el campus del IIT, también restaurados y que inspiraron a Cabrero y Ruiz. Alimentamos el debate de la recuperación de edificios, en el que lo realizado enriquece los criterios al uso. Conclui-remos evidenciando el equilibrio entre la recuperación de la espacialidad, su construcción experimental y la transformación del uso expositivo en el nuevo uso representativo y administrativo de carácter permanente, pero reversible, en lo que consideramos una “arquitectura ampliada”

We study the problem of selfish routing in the presence of incomplete network information. Our model consists of a number of users who wish to route their traffic on a network of m parallel links with the objective of minimizing their latency. However, in doing so, they face the challenge of lack of precise information on the capacity of the network links. This uncertainty is modeled via a set of probability distributions over all the possibilities, one for each user. The resulting model is an amalgamation of the KP-model of [14] and the congestion games with user-specific functions of [22]. We embark on a study of Nash equilibria and the price of anarchy in this new model. In particular, we propose polynomial-time algorithms (w.r.t. our model's parameters) for computing some special cases of pure Nash equilibria and we show that negative results of [22], for the non-existence of pure Nash equilibria in the case of three users, do not apply to our model. Consequently, we propose an interesting open problem, that of the existence of pure Nash equilibria in the general case of our model. Furthermore, we consider appropriate notions for the social cost and the price of anarchy and obtain upper bounds for the latter. With respect to fully mixed Nash equilibria, we show that when they exist, they are unique. Finally, we prove that the fully mixed Nash equilibrium is the worst equilibrium.

We focus on the problem of learning equilibria in a particular routing game similar to the Wardrop traffic model. We describe a routing game played by a large number of players and present a distributed learning algorithm that we prove to converge weakly to equilibria for the system. The proof of convergence is based on a differential equation governing the global evolution of the system that is inferred from all the local evolutions of the agents in play. We prove that the differential equation converges with the help of Lyapunov techniques.

We study the peculiar dynamical features of a fractional derivative of complex-order network. The network is composed of two unidirectional rings of cells, coupled through a "buffer" cell. The network has a Z3 × Z5 cyclic symmetry group. The complex derivative Dα±jβ, with α, β ∈ R+ is a generalization of the concept of integer order derivative, where α = 1, β = 0. Each cell is modeled by the Chen oscillator. Numerical simulations of the coupled cell system associated with the network expose patterns such as equilibria, periodic orbits, relaxation oscillations, quasiperiodic motion, and chaos, in one or in two rings of cells. In addition, fixing β = 0.8, we perceive differences in the qualitative behavior of the system, as the parameter c ∈ [13, 24] of the Chen oscillator and/or the real part of the fractional derivative, α ∈ {0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0}, are varied. Some patterns produced by the coupled system are constrained by the network architecture, but other features are only understood in the light of the internal dynamics of each cell, in this case, the Chen oscillator. What is more important, architecture and/or internal dynamics?

For prediction of interacting agents' trajectories, we propose an end-to-end trainable architecture that hybridizes neural nets with game-theoretic reasoning, has interpretable intermediate representations, and transfers to downstream decision making. It uses a net that reveals preferences from the agents' past joint trajectory, and a differentiable implicit layer that maps these preferences to local Nash equilibria, forming the modes of the predicted future trajectory. Additionally, it learns an equilibrium refinement concept. For tractability, we introduce a new class of continuous potential games and an equilibrium-separating partition of the action space. We provide theoretical results for explicit gradients and soundness. In experiments, we evaluate our approach on two real-world data sets, where we predict highway drivers' merging trajectories, and on a simple decision-making transfer task.

En este artículo, se aborda la determinación de las condiciones de equilibrio de Superficies de Geometría Variable definidas por Estructuras Recíprocas mediante el estudio de un campo de fuerzas actuantes y del lugar geométrico que describen los elementos de tales estructuras a través de los diferentes estados de transformación. Se establecen las propiedades geométricas y estructurales de un Nodo Recíproco de estas estructuras con tres barras cilíndricas iguales, mediante el desarrollo de una formulación matemático-paramétrica, con el objetivo de deducir el proceso de equilibrio para la obtención analítica de sistemas de estabilización de Superficies de Geometría Variable conformadas por Estructuras Recíprocas Transformables. La finalidad de la investigación presentada aquí es la aplicación de dicho sistema de estabilización mediante un software geométrico-estructural de nueva creación, al diseño y cálculo de distintas tipologías de superficies en la configuración de arquitecturas de geometría transformable.

La presente investigación se dirige a realizar una identificación detallada de las fuerzas externas (factores de deterioro naturales y humanos) e internas (materiales constructivos) que afectan a los aparejos en los edificios históricos. Desde este punto de vista, la estructura de un edificio puede definirse como una combinación estable de elementos que se conciben como una unidad, para soportar y transmitir al terreno las cargas correspondientes de forma segura y sin exceder los límites de resistencia de cada uno de estos elementos.En concordancia con este enfoque, se estudiarán las relaciones entre ambos tipos de fuerzas, tomando en cuenta que las fuerzas internas poseen la misión de contrarrestar las externas para conservar el equilibrio estructural de un edificio. La adecuada comprensión de estas relaciones permitirá elaborar una aproximación metodológica para intervenir sobre los aparejos en edificios históricos, desde el respeto a su autenticidad como elementos estructurales y formales del patrimonio arquitectónico. En este sentido, el respeto a la autenticidad solamente puede alcanzarse investigando las técnicas y los materiales constructivos que se utilizaron en la época a la que pertenece un edificio histórico determinado, lo cual facilita que el proceso de restauración y reestructuración del patrimonio arquitectónico se lleve a cabo preservando sus valores históricos y artísticos.Dado que la estructura distingue a la arquitectura del resto de las artes, toda intervención sobre el patrimonio arquitectónico debe partir de la idea de que los elementos estructurales desempeñan una función práctica, contribuyendo de manera decisiva a la conservación de un edificio a través del tiempo, pero también se les puede atribuir una función estética, expresando con ellos los valores artísticos de la época a la que pertenecen. Esta idea se ha reflejado en la historia de la arquitectura desde la Grecia clásica, de modo que los elementos estructurales de cada época se han convertido en símbolos de su arquitectura. En el desarrollo de esta actividad, siempre se puede resolver un problema de varias formas igualmente válidas, pues la atención y el esfuerzo que se dedican a los detalles formales, más allá de las exigencias del cálculo estructural, rebasan el ámbito meramente técnico y aportan valores artísticos de manera deliberada o fortuita.AbstractThis research is aimed to carry out a detailed identification of the external forces (natural and human factors of deterioration) and internal (building materials) which affect the bonding of walls in historical buildings. From this point of view, the structure of a building can be defined as a stable combination of elements which are conceived as a whole, in order to bear and transmit the pertinent loads to the ground in a safe manner and without exceeding the resistance limits of each one of these elements.According to this approach, relations between both types of forces will be studied, considering that internal forces have the purpose of counteracting the external ones in order to preserve the structural balance of a building. The appropriate understanding of these relations will allow to make up a methodological approach to operate on the bonding of walls in historical buildings, from the respect to its authenticity as structural and formal elements of architectural heritage. In this sense, respect to authenticity can only be achieved doing research on the building techniques and materials which were used in the time which a specific historical building belongs to, which facilitates to carry out the restoration and restructuration process of architectural heritage preserving its historical and artistic values.Given that structure differentiates architecture from the other arts, every operation on architectural heritage must start from the idea that structural elements accomplish a practical function, making a crucial contribution to preserve a building through ages, but they can also have an aesthetic function, expressing the artistic values of the time which they belong to. This idea has been reflected in history of architecture from the classical Greece, in a way that the structural elements of each time have become symbols of its architecture. In the development of this task, a problem can always be solved in different manners which are equally acceptable, because the attention and the effort which are invested in formal problems, beyond the requirements of structure calculation, overtake the sphere of mere technique and provide artistic values in an intentional or accidental way.

In various contexts of networking research, end-host path selection has recently regained momentum as a design principle. While such path selection has the potential to increase performance and security of networks, there is a prominent concern that it could also lead to network instability (i.e., flow-volume oscillation) if paths are selected in a greedy, load-adaptive fashion. However, the extent and the impact vectors of instability caused by path selection are rarely concretized or quantified, which is essential to discuss the merits and drawbacks of end-host path selection. In this work, we investigate the effect of end-host path selection on various metrics of networks both qualitatively and quantitatively. To achieve general and fundamental insights, we leverage the recently introduced axiomatic perspective on congestion control and adapt it to accommodate joint algorithms for path selection and congestion control, i.e., multi-path congestion-control protocols. Using this approach, we identify equilibria of the multi-path congestioncontrol dynamics and analytically characterize these equilibria with respect to important metrics of interest in networks (the "axioms") such as efficiency, fairness, and loss avoidance. We analyze how these axiomatic ratings for a general network change compared to a scenario without path selection, thereby obtaining an interpretable and quantititative formalization of the performance impact of end-host path-selection. Finally, we show that there is a fundamental trade-off in multi-path congestion-control protocol design between efficiency, stability, and loss avoidance on one side and fairness and responsiveness on the other side.

The unique role of the zinc (II) cation prompted us to cut a cross-section of the large and complex topic of the stimuli-responsive coordination polymers (CPs). Due to its flexible coordination environment and geometries, easiness of coordination–decoordination equilibria, “optically innocent” ability to “clip” the ligands in emissive architectures, non-toxicity and sustainability, the zinc (II) cation is a good candidate for building supramolecular smart tools. The review summarizes the recent achievements of zinc-based CPs as stimuli-responsive materials able to provide a chromic response. An overview of the past five years has been organised, encompassing 1, 2 and 3D responsive zinc-based CPs; specifically zinc-based metallorganic frameworks and zinc-based nanosized polymeric probes. The most relevant examples were collected following a consequential and progressive approach, referring to the structure–responsiveness relationship, the sensing mechanisms, the analytes and/or parameters detected. Finally, applications of highly bioengineered Zn-CPs for advanced imaging technique have been discussed.

Los deltas fluviales son uno de los ecosistemas más prósperos y a la vez amenazados de la Tierra. Los efectos del cambio climático comprometen el frágil equilibrio ambiental de las llanuras deltaicas y a la vez, la seguridad de la población que reside en ellas. El objetivo principal de este artículo es exponer el cambio de paradigma en materia de protección frente al riesgo de inundación que ha tenido lugar en la planificación espacial de los deltas en las últimas décadas. El caso del delta del Rijn-Maas-Schelde, en los Países Bajos, expresa el tránsito conceptual desde una visión resistente, basada en la construcción de grandes obras de ingeniería con el objetivo de proteger las áreas habitadas, a una aproximación más resiliente en la que las dinámicas ecosistémicas y urbanas se integran en las políticas de seguridad frente a las inundaciones. Dos proyectos icónicos de la planificación hidráulica neerlandesa ilustran esta transición, los “Deltawerken” o Plan Delta (1955-1997), en el sector suroeste, y el Programa “Ruimte voor de rivieren” o Espacio para los ríos (2006-2019) que comprende el cauce de los ríos Rijn y Maas hasta su desembocadura. La introducción del principio de “calidad espacial” será un aspecto clave en la formulación de los nuevos planes de ordenación territorial y permitirá tejer alianzas entre los agentes sociales, ambientales y económicos en favor, no sólo de la preservación, sino también del desarrollo natural del delta.

A double-distribution-function based lattice Boltzmann method (DDF-LBM) is proposed for the simulation of polyatomic gases in the supersonic regime. The model relies on a numerical equilibrium that has been extensively used by discrete velocity methods since the late 1990s. Here, it is extended to reproduce an arbitrary number of moments of the Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution. These extensions to the standard 5-constraint (mass, momentum and energy) approach lead to the correct simulation of thermal, compressible flows with only 39 discrete velocities in 3D. The stability of this BGK-LBM is reinforced by relying on Knudsen-number-dependent relaxation times that are computed analytically. Hence, high Reynolds-number, supersonic flows can be simulated in an efficient and elegant manner. While the 1D Riemann problem shows the ability of the proposed approach to handle discontinuities in the zero-viscosity limit, the simulation of the supersonic flow past a NACA0012 aerofoil confirms the excellent behaviour of this model in a low-viscosity and supersonic regime. The flow past a sphere is further simulated to investigate the 3D behaviour of our model in the low-viscosity supersonic regime. The proposed model is shown to be substantially more efficient than the previous 5-moment D3Q343 DDF-LBM for both CPU and GPU architectures. It then opens up a whole new world of compressible flow applications that can be realistically tackled with a purely LB approach. En el paciente críticamente enfermo, las alteraciones de los líquidos corporales hacia la depleción como hacia la sobrecarga es una condición frecuente y que se asocia con incremento de la mortalidad, el manejo de esta condición exige un conocimiento holístico de la fisiología y fisiopatología de la homeostasis corporal por parte del personal médico y de enfermería. Objetivo: describir una visión fisiológica, fisiopatológica de las pérdidas insensibles, con el fin de homogenizar y mejorar el manejo por parte del personal de enfermería. Métodos: investigación de diseño documental con revisión bibliográfica en las bases de datos: PubMed, Scielo, Latindex, Lilacs y Google académico, con los descriptores de ciencias de la salud (DeCS) de Bireme: pérdidas insensibles, balance hídrico, paciente crítico. Desarrollo: En condiciones no patológicas nuestro organismo es capaz de mantener un equilibrio hidroelectrolítico y ácido-base gracias a los mecanismos adaptativos del mismo, el paciente en estado crítico pierde dicho equilibrio, y las pérdidas insensibles se maximizan por situaciones como la taquipnea, la cirugía abdominal abiera, entre otros. Es por este motivo que uno de los roles fundamentales de enfermería en la Unidad de Terapia Intensiva es tener el conocimiento de la importancia del cálculo de las perdidas insensibles, así como de su impacto en la evolución del paciente críticamente enfermo. Conclusiones: El conocimiento de las perdidas insensibles en situaciones especiales, se convierte en un recurso de buena práctica clínica y su conocimiento profundo permite el manejo adecuado del paciente en estado crítico Palabras clave: pérdida insensible de agua, medio interno, paciente crítico ABSTRACT Background: The balance of the internal environment is essential to maintain an adequate state of health. In the critically ill patient, alterations of body fluids towards depletion as well as towards overload is a frequent condition and is associated with increased mortality, the management of this condition requires a holistic understanding of the physiology and pathophysiology of homeostasis by medical and nursing staff. Objective: give a physiological, pathophysiological and compensation vision of insensible losses, in order to homogenize and improve their management by nursing staff. Methods: documentary design research with bibliographic review in the databases: PubMed, Scielo, Latindex, Lilacs and academic Google, with Bireme's health sciences (DeCS) descriptors: insensible losses, water balance, critical patient. Development: In non-pathological conditions, our body is capable of maintaining a hydroelectrolytic and acid-base balance thanks to its adaptive mechanisms. The critically ill patient loses said balance, and insensible losses are maximized by situations such as tachypnea, surgery abdominal open, among others. It is for this reason that one of the fundamental roles of nursing in the Intensive Care Unit is to be aware of the importance of calculating insensible losses, as well as their impact on the evolution of critically ill patients. Conclusions: The knowledge of insensible losses in special situations becomes a resource of good clinical practice and its deep knowledge allows the adequate management of the patient in critical condition. In a companion study [Layton AT. A mathematical model of the urine concentrating mechanism in the rat renal medulla. I. Formulation and base-case results. Am J Physiol Renal Physiol. (First published November 10, 2010). 10.1152/ajprenal.00203.2010] a region-based mathematical model was formulated for the urine concentrating mechanism in the renal medulla of the rat kidney. In the present study, we investigated model sensitivity to some of the fundamental structural assumptions. An unexpected finding is that the concentrating capability of this region-based model falls short of the capability of models that have radially homogeneous interstitial fluid at each level of only the inner medulla (IM) or of both the outer medulla and IM, but are otherwise analogous to the region-based model. Nonetheless, model results reveal the functional significance of several aspects of tubular segmentation and heterogeneity: 1) the exclusion of ascending thin limbs that reach into the deep IM from the collecting duct clusters in the upper IM promotes urea cycling within the IM; 2) the high urea permeability of the lower IM thin limb segments allows their tubular fluid urea content to equilibrate with the surrounding interstitium; 3) the aquaporin-1-null terminal descending limb segments prevent water entry and maintain the transepithelial NaCl concentration gradient; 4) a higher thick ascending limb Na+ active transport rate in the inner stripe augments concentrating capability without a corresponding increase in energy expenditure for transport; 5) active Na+ reabsorption from the collecting duct elevates its tubular fluid urea concentration. Model calculations predict that these aspects of tubular segmentation and heterogeneity promote effective urine concentrating functions.

Los denominados procesos psicológicos (e.g., atención, memoria, pensamiento) han sido estudiados a través de diferentes propuestas teóricas. En cada una de estas aproximaciones se utilizan metáforas para describir al fenómeno psicológico como un proceso que tiene un inicio y un fin (i.e., la metáfora del procesamiento de la información en términos de input-output y su analogía con los sistemas computacionales). Una propuesta para el estudio del desarrollo de los procesos cognoscitivos, que hasta la fecha ha recibido bastante aceptación y criticas también, es la obra realizada por Jean Piaget. En este ensayo se describen los conceptos propuestos por Piaget para analizar un proceso entendido como el cambio en los estados de equilibrio. Se discuten estos conceptos y su pertinencia para la descripción del proceso entendido como estados y transiciones en el comportamiento de un individuo.

This study examines a three-dimensional, anisotropic multistability of a mechanical meta material based on a stacked Miura-ori architecture, and investigates how such a unique stability property can impart stiffness and effective modulus programming functions. The unit cell of this metamaterial can be bistable due to the nonlinear relationship between rigid-folding and crease material bending. Such bistability possesses an unorthodox property: the arrangement of elastically stable and unstable equilibria are different along different principal axes of the unit cell, so that along certain axes the unit cell exhibits two force–deformation relationships concurrently within the same range of deformation. Therefore, one can achieve a notable stiffness adaptation via switching between the two stable states. As multiple unit cells are assembled into a metamaterial, the stiffness adaptation can be aggregated into an on-demand modulus programming capability. That is, via strategically switching different unit cells between stable states, one can control the overall effective modulus. This research examines the underlying principles of anisotropic multistability, experimentally validates the feasibility of stiffness adaptation, and conducts parametric analyses to reveal the correlations between the effective modulus programming and Miura-ori designs. The results can advance many adaptive systems such as morphing structures and soft robotics.

El objetivo del presente trabajo consiste en evidenciar como a partir de los años 50 Félix Candela consiguió diseñar y calcular estructuralmente cáscaras cilíndricas largas de cubierta de hormigón armado mediante análisis basados simplemente en ecuaciones de equilibrio, con un claro objetivo: conseguir un método de cálculo sencillo y seguro, respetando la característica de cedencia del hormigón armado y, por tanto, obviando las consideraciones de compatibilidad y deformación que pudiera sufrir la estructura. Y lo hizo en un momento donde la teoría elástica de cáscaras resultaba prácticamente inaplicable al implicar la resolución de ecuaciones diferenciales de octavo orden. Se justifica analíticamente la teoría escogiendo un ejemplo de la obra de Félix Candela, ejecutada por medio de cáscaras cilíndricas largas de cubierta, y elaborando el proceso de cálculo necesario propuesto.

Las exigencias normativas relativas a la comprobación de los estados límites de servicio en estructuras de hormigón armado requieren del conocimiento de la tensión de tracción de la armadura en las secciones características. En situaciones de compresión o flexión compuesta esviada, la obtención de las coordenadas del plano de equilibrio con las que determinar deformación y tensión de cada punto de la sección transversal bajo solicitaciones no necesariamente de agotamiento, requiere de algún procedimiento numérico. Este trabajo presenta un método de búsqueda de la solución basado en la determinación de familias de diagramas momento-curvatura para la sección analizada y el axil de diseño exterior, y presenta la evaluación del mismo de manera experimental. El modelo es universal en cuanto a la geometría de la sección transversal, las solicitaciones exteriores, y los modelos constitutivos empleados para hormigón y acero.

En las vanguardias artísticas del s.XX, la abstracción propició la visión oblicua y asimétrica gracias a una mirada ajena a frontalidades que relegaran la importancia del binomio espacio - tiempo. El equilibrio entre peso e ingravidez, o estatismo e inestabilidad, protagonizó movimientos como el Constructivismo Ruso, el Neoplasticismo, el Elementalismo o el Suprematismo. Ciertas utopías espaciales posteriores, como la desarrollada por el grupo francés Architecture Principe, en el contexto cultural del Mayo del 68 francés, heredaron aquel legado teórico proponiendo desafiar el orden espacial establecido a través de su Teoría de la “Fonction Oblique”. Su ámbito dimensional, reflejado en su ambicioso grafismo, abarcaba desde lo territorial hasta lo doméstico. Sin embargo, su fundamento conceptual quedó materializado de manera más literal en experimentos de escala reducida, como el Pabellón Francés de la 35 Bienal de Venecia de 1970. Este artículo identificará los precedentes teóricos de la experiencia sensorial ofrecida por aquel espacio efímero, cuyo fundamento principal era el cuestionamiento de las directrices cartesianas de sus envolventes arquitectónicas -suelo, pared y techo- y su fusión indiscriminada. El análisis crítico de este Pabellón, realizado por Claude Parent integrando arquitectura y arte bajo el paradigma de lo oblicuo, permitirá cuestionar si arquitecturas contemporáneas siguen desarrollando aquel legado conceptual, y si a otras escalas ha dejado de ser tan utópico como entonces, y si tiene incluso más sentido.

Examination of the architecture of a semiconductor-based microelectronics device shows that metallic, highly conductive components are an integral part of the miniature circuits. As geometries become increasingly small (e.g. at the sub-micron level) the structure at critical interfaces influences the electrical performance to a greater extent. Accordingly metal-semiconductor junctions have significant technological importance, in addition to any natural scientific interest associated with the bonding of two unlike materials. This article reviews some of our recent work on this topic, with particular emphasis on the reactions which can occur either during fabrication of the interface or upon heating in conjunction with device processing or prolonged service.The simplest system consists of an elemental metal and an elemental semiconductor, silicon being the most important example of the latter. Consideration of phase equilibria indicates that such an interface is thermodynamically unstable: upon heating either a reaction can occur to produce a compound phase (i.e. a silicide), or mutual dissolution of the elements within each other takes place to achieve saturated solid solution compositions. Reference to the appropriate binary phase diagram allows prediction of the result if local equilibrium is achieved. Thus although an atomically abrupt metal-semiconductor interface might be grown under specialized circumstances, this situation can be expected to be unusual and moreover it is not stable to elevated temperatures when atomic mobility and diffusion are rapid.

Solution and crystal data are reported for DNA 18-mers with sequences related to those of bacterial noncoding single-stranded DNA segments called repetitive extragenic palindromes (REPs). Solution CD and melting data showed that the CG-rich, near-palindromic REPs from various bacterial species exhibit dynamic temperature-dependent and concentration-dependent equilibria, including architectures compatible with not only hairpins, which are expected to be biologically relevant, but also antiparallel duplexes and bimolecular tetraplexes. Three 18-mer oligonucleotides named Hpar-18 (PDB entry 6rou), Chom-18 (PDB entry 6ros) and its brominated variant Chom-18Br (PDB entry 6ror) crystallized as isomorphic right-handed A-like duplexes. The low-resolution crystal structures were solved with the help of experimental phases for Chom-18Br. The center of the duplexes is formed by two successive T–T noncanonical base pairs (mismatches). They do not deform the double-helical geometry. The presence of T–T mismatches prompted an analysis of the geometries of these and other noncanonical pairs in other DNA crystals in terms of their fit to the experimental electron densities (RSCC) and their geometric fit to the NtC (dinucleotide conformational) classes (https://dnatco.datmos.org/). Throughout this work, knowledge of the NtC classes was used to refine and validate the crystal structures, and to analyze the mismatches.

El objetivo de esta investigación ha sido analizar la esclusa de émbolo buzo diseñada por Agustín de Betancourt y Molina en 1807. Para ello, se ha realizado un estudio de ingeniería asistida por ordenador, concretamente un análisis estático por elementos finitos basado en el modelo tridimensional obtenido con técnicas de diseño asistido por ordenador mediante el software paramétrico Autodesk Inventor Professional, a partir de la planimetría original del expediente. Los resultados muestran que la posición más desfavorable ocurre cuando el émbolo buzo está completamente levantado, sobrepasándose los límites de elasticidad de los materiales. Por tanto, la conclusión principal es que la esclusa está mal dimensionada, aunque esto se debe a que las láminas sólo tenían un valor funcional o descriptivo, no habiendo sido llevada nunca a la práctica dicha esclusa. Sin embargo, el ingeniero español diseña un novedoso sistema de equilibrio émbolo buzo-contrapeso.
