This study aims to develop an efficient planning concept for office space by a projected organisation of social space. The article shows a principle of developing the functional design of an architectural structure and methods of its subsequent assessment. The study was carried out using the example of a section under reconstruction in an industrial building for the functions of a co-working centre. The methods included analysis and acquisition of data on the design of co-working centres with the subse-quent topological analysis of references. This allowed the structure of connections between the ele-ments allocated in space and the functional content of the room to be determined. Based on the ob-tained data, the options for design solutions targeting an office building were formed. For their analy-sis, the tools of space syntax were applied. To visualise the efficiency of the "work" and "rest" pro-cesses, comparative graphs of their behaviour were built, as well as a scheme for evacuation proce-dures. These graphs were used to compile the most effective design concepts. Tracing user routes through human flow simulations revealed vulnerabilities in supply chains and the structure of the ongo-ing social process. The graphs exhibited multiple peak values, meaning that necessary functional zones are missing. After eliminating these vulnerabilities, the built graphs of the key process show an increase of 17% in the level of social efficiency. The evacuation procedures also showed the efficien-cy of the developed layout concepts in reducing the total time for evacuating users. The most effective solution was to locate recreation areas with high attendance in the most accessible places in the framework of an architectural structure.

Osiągnięcia architektury Ameryki Południowej początku XXI w. postawiły architektów tego kontynentu w światowej czołówce w zakresie innowacyjnych i nieortodoksyjnych rozwiązań projektowych. W zasadzie „przyrostowości” (ang. incrementality) wielu widzi podstawy nowych, społecznie zrównoważonych metod projektowania dla architektury przyszłości. Celem artykułu jest analiza przydatności i uniwersalności centralnej cechy niektórych najbardziej docenianych projektów „przyrostowych”, jaką jest umiejętne wprowadzenie procesów nieformalnych (m.in. partycypacji) w silnie sformalizowany i zinstytucjonalizowany proces projektowy. Do analizy projektów i ich szerokiego kontekstu zastosowany jest aparat pojęciowy zapożyczony z teorii postmodernizmu w architekturze i sztuce (szczególnie prac Christophera Alexandra i George’a Dickiego). Pozwala on wyróżnić podobieństwa i fundamentalne różnice między kulturami architektonicznymi oraz przybliżyć odpowiedź na pytanie o możliwość naśladownictwa projektów powstałych w zupełnie innych kulturach w kontekście polskim i europejskim. Incremental architecture and problems of the imitation of informal architectural solutions The achievements of South American architecture of the early twenty-first century have put the architects of this continent at the forefront in the field of innovative and unorthodox design solutions. Many see the basics of new, socially sustainable design methods for the architecture of the future in the principle of incrementality. The purpose of the paper is to analyse the usefulness and universality of the central feature of some of the most appreciated incremental projects, which is the skilful introduction of informal processes (including participation) into a highly formalised and institutionalised design environment. To analyse the projects and their broad context, a conceptual apparatus was used, as applied in the theory of Postmodernism in architecture and art (especially the works of Christopher Alexander and George Dickie). It allows to highlight similarities and fundamental differences between architectural cultures and to take a step closer to answer the question of the possibility of imitating designs created in completely different cultures in the Polish and European context.

Many architects and designers coincide that fabric structures have an imperative role to play in creating an ecofriendly future. In recent years, the use of smart textiles has been particularly popular in the construction practices. These are hailed as environmentally friendly, deliberated as architecturally aesthetic and are usually cost effective. There is a growing demand for hybrid textile materials that combine strength and functionality in a lightweight product at a competitive price. These materials are developed with advanced technical interventions. This paper aims to conceptualize the idea of using smart textiles in the interior architecture to ensure sustainability by replacing the conventional architectural finishes. The use of smart textiles that fetches the possibilities offered by both textile and interior design in the present world has been highlighted with examples. Studies illustrate that the use of smart textile materials have several benefits in the built environment in terms of weight, transparency, adaptability, indoor climate, atmosphere and acoustics. Examples are taken from the superlative case studies from all across the world. The research combines the versatile information and explores the diversity of smart textiles, presenting a framework of future prospects for the utilization of the materials in the modern interior design concepts.

This study combines historical and quantitative methods to determine the market response to a major nineteenth century American urban architectural form-the speculatively built row house. The paper estimates a hedonic price index which decomposes the original purchase price of the row house into a set of prices for the characteristics of the house, including detailed architectural features. In turn, the estimated prices for the architectural features reveal the market's response to the aesthetic design. With more than 3,500 row houses, its tree-lined streets, and scattered parks, Boston's South End is the largest Victorian residential district remaining in the United States. The homogeneity of the brick bowfront row house form, coupled with the variety of architectural features, provides an unusual opportunity to test the effect of architecture on market values. We find that variables for lot size, house size, and location within the neighborhood explain 74 percent of the price of a row house. Architectural style and features account for an additional 14 percent of the price of the house and are more highly valued when they differentiate a row house from its neighbors. These are significant results, for they provide systematic statistical evidence that architectural design matters in the marketplace. Paolo Tombesi sets out a very interesting thesis that Asia will become the ‘back office’ of Western design practice in, ‘A true south for design? The new international division of labour in architecture’ (arq 5/2, pp.171–180). There are many instances of this happening already, though mainly in engineering and in US style architectural practice where documentation consists of the application of rules-based methods and the work used to be done by ‘tracers’. Practices with computer-based standard detailing can have schematic drawings worked up overnight and corrections similarly serviced. UK architectural practice is largely done without back offices or standard solutions and drafting help must be closely supervised. Price competition from the South may well become a factor for change.

Este artículo persigue una amplificación de la comprensión de las técnicas de arquitectura, vinculándolas a una “ecología de lo invisible”: la atención prestada a variables cualitativas existentes en el contexto, apenas perceptibles y a menudo desestimadas por los regímenes de valor asentados. Este proceder –que podría ser rastreado en el diseño arquitectónico a lo largo de la historia– ha adquirido un valor nuevo, tras la crisis económico-financiera, como crítica a los modelos de desarrollo que dominaron en el cambio de siglo, lo cual también dificulta su comprensión. Para aclarar este punto, se analizan sus claves en tres proyectos fechados en los años precedentes a la crisis: la propuesta de Cedric Price para el concurso Design of Cities en Manhattan (1998), la remodelación de la plaza Léon Aucoc (1996) y la Escuela de Administración de Empresas (2006), ambas en Burdeos, de Lacaton & Vassal. Si los dos primeros han sido leídos como formas de “no intervención”, asociados a una renuncia a diseñar y construir, el tercero escapa a esta lectura, lo cual nos ayudará a reconsiderarlos en clave propositiva. La metodología de análisis se fija en los proyectos y en cómo han sido mediados en diversos canales y para diferentes públicos, desde las revistas especializadas a las “imágenes pobres” compartidas en las aplicaciones web de servidores de mapas. In this paper, a new methodology to compare the robustness of sensor structures employed in radiofrequency design for test (RF DFT) architectures for RF integrated circuits (ICs) is proposed. First, the yield loss and defect level of the test technique is evaluated using a statistical model of the Circuit under Test (obtained through non-parametric statistics and copula theory). Then, by carrying out the dispersion analysis of the sensor architecture, a figure of merit is established. This methodology reduces the number of iterations in the design flow of RF DFT sensors and makes it possible to evaluate process dispersion. The case study is a SiGe:C BiCMOS LNA tested by a single-probe measurement.

Houses are fascinating because they seem to occupy a pivotal position in the spectrum of human construction. They are, perhaps, located right on the watershed between what is generally understood as ‘architecture’ and what is considered as just ‘building’. They allow us to probe the very definition of what architecture is perceived to be. Using the typology of the dwelling - and three examples from three architectural practices - we examine differing responses to context, climate and the vernacular, documenting and evaluating commonalities and differentials in design approaches. The examples are a holiday home in Dungeness by NORD, an artists’ residence and studio on Loch Fyne by GMA and a house on the Isle of Lewis by studioKAP.

Family business (FB) in the food industry was very important. Capturing the Family Business Resilience in Traditional Food Sector in Surabaya was conducted from 2015 to 2016 by Petra Christian University, funded by UBCHEA. The purposes were to document the Family Business in traditional food sector in Surabaya and the types of business place of the family business. It was conducted with qualitative methods of: FB location mapping, students’ workshop, interview and photo documentation, video documentation, SWOT analysis, marketing and architectural design for traditional food vendors. FB in Traditional Food Sector in Surabaya were found interesting but less sustainable. The Business Principles, such as, hard work and humility were found central. They could be more sustainable with application of human resources development and professional management. Meanwhile attractive factors of the FBs were the food quality, human service and affordable food price. Several types of architecture typology were found: the restaurant, the legal eating place (warung) and the illegal street-hawker stall. The informal ones were found because of the behavior of Surabaya’s residents. Lastly, more business development strategies were needed, such as website marketing, collaboration with online marketing such as Go-Food and architectural rehabilitation.

Abstract Architectural detail represents an important part of architecture. Not only can it be used as an identifier of a specific building but at the same time enhances the experience of the realized project. Within it lie the signs of a great architect and clues to understanding his or her way of thinking. It is therefore the central topic of a seminar offered to architecture students at the Brno University of Technology. During the course of the semester-long class the students acquaint themselves with atypical architectural details of domestic and international architects by learning to read them, understand them and subsequently draw them by creating architectural blueprints. In other words, by general analysis of a detail the students learn theoretical thinking of its architect who, depending on the nature of the design, had to incorporate a variety of techniques and crafts. Students apply this analytical part to their own architectural detail design. The methodology of the seminar consists of experiential learning by project management and is complemented by a series of lectures discussing a diversity of details as well as materials and technologies required to implement it. The architectural detail design is also part of students’ bachelors thesis, therefore, the realistic nature of their blueprints can be verified in the production process of its physical counterpart. Based on their own documentation the students choose the most suitable manufacturing process whether it is supplied by a specific technology or a craftsman. Students actively participate in the production and correct their design proposals in real scale with the actual material. A student, as a future architect, stands somewhere between a client and an artisan, materializes his or her idea and adjusts the manufacturing process so that the final detail fulfills aesthetic consistency and is in harmony with its initial concept. One of the very important aspects of the design is its economic cost, an actual price of real implementation. The detail determines not only the physical expression, it becomes the characteristic feature from which the rest of the building is derived. This course motivates students to surpass mere technical calculations learned from books towards sophistication and refinement, pragmatism and experimentation, and encourages a shift from feasibility to perfection.

Individualism in creativity is one of foundation. Nevertheless that understanding of creativity neediness is deficient today. The category combine, as theory and practice by itself. For identifying individuality, we can use such architectural categories as style, boundary, norm, scale, and fundamental philosophical category as character, identity, method, phenomenon. The problem was researched theorist of architecture O. Rapparot in the context of individuality, creativity and identity. Individuality have multiply nature, that is necessary to fit it connection with , architectural fundamental categories. Temporal context and prevailing style is also worth to consideration. No less important factor influencing of economic to it nowadays. Economic, more precisely the price often acts as a determinant. Сonsidering the complexity of this concept, it is nesecity to define boundaries of individuality. We can divide the Individuality into deep and superficial. Deep individuality is always multiple and generated by many factors with complexity of their relationships. Superficial individuality rather easy to understand, often generated by artistic or compositional factors as usual. Individuality relates to design and architecture in different way. Individuality, as an architecture is generated by uniqueness. It is often the basis of identity, a fundamental category in philosophical discourse. Concept of typology can be a points of connection between architecture and individuality. Concept of individuality have phenomenological nature. We must know about it. Therefore, category of norm can often conflict with individuality, because they have very different foundation. The scale can determinate the borders of individuality. Technology, method and fashion can expand or straiten possibilities for individuality in architecture.

Purpose Mapping the intrinsic value of the art of architecture and the art of nature within the context of Kakunodate and the preservation of its samurai manors and Sakura heritage trees, this paper proposes that from the perception of tourists, the preservation of both items is important. Extending the psychology of pricing that is subject to consumers’ preference and expectation to the context of valuation of cultural heritage assets, the purpose of this paper is to suggest that including the art of nature and the aesthetic of Sakura to the art of architecture (Samurai manors) will add more value to the cultural heritage of Kakunodate than when only the art of architecture is mentioned. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses Contingency Valuation Method to solicit tourists willingness-to-pay to preserve the architecture and the nature in Kakunodate. The survey uses a double bounded dichotomous choice model to elicit the various levels of tourists preference in various scenarios. Response from more than 1,000 tourists in three scenarios were collected. Through a maximum likelihood method and a subsequent truncated calculation, results are reported. Findings The results support the conceptual argument that the art of nature adds value to the art of architecture only. Tourists are found to be willing to pay more to support both the architecture (samurai houses) and nature (cherry trees) than the samurai houses alone. Research limitations/implications The research findings add to the inventory of research on prior works in heritage trees, conservation of trees and heritage tourism, and cultural heritage assets in general. The empirical findings support prior theoretical works that examined the relationship of nature and art, art and architecture, and architecture as visual consumption. Practical implications The findings have managerial implications for policy makers relative to a possible increase of revenue by adding accompanying-nature component to focal architectural assets when soliciting funding support. Originality/value The originality and this piece stems from extending trees as an art form in nature and its added value to architecture within the context of cultural heritage assets. The empirical findings add to the much discussed relationships among art, nature, and architecture.

In the early years of the Second World War, Leslie Martin complied a photographic album to record the architectural work done in partnership with his wife Sadie Speight since 1934. It amounted to ‘quite a lot’, he wrote to Ben Nicholson. Thirty years later, Martin — by now Professor of Architecture at Cambridge and Head of the Land Use and Built Form Studies Centre — was to dismiss his pre-war work as ‘really insignificant in scale’. Martin’s own book, Buildings and Ideas, 1933–83, contains a highly selective account of this early period. This partial view has been further obscured by the persistent misdating and misidentification of the practice’s two most substantial pre-war houses — Brackenfell in Cumberland and Four Acres, North Ferriby, near Hull — in the literature of the Modern Movement in Britain. Of the two, Brackenfell is of particular interest, as the house of Alastair Morton, design director of a textile firm and novice painter. Martin’s own brief comments and the volume of drawings which survive for Brackenfell suggest that this was an important commission for Martin and Speight, and one which precipitated a significant shift in their approach to architecture. However, our inadequate knowledge of the work of the partnership means that the house has so far eluded full analysis. This article proposes to disconnect the evidence of this building from Martin’s subsequent career and architectural theories, and to view it instead in the context of its period. Using Brackenfell as its focus, the article aims to clarify Martin and Speight’s evolution as designers, and to probe the significance of their association with a distinguished group of artists during the late 1930s.

Does design contribute to real estate value? Practicing architects require evidence to justify both functional and aesthetic building needs within the financial ecosystem. Some buildings that become real estate assets are valued using models that consider some proxies for understanding value, but these features are abstract and may misidentify the sub-optimal differentiation that design brings. The lack of feedback between real estate valuation and building design often leads to poor design and economic outcomes. To address this miscommunication, we investigate the transaction price performance of four external architectural form features—diagonality, curvature, setbacks and podiums. Whilst controlling for drivers that are known to explain transaction price variation, we find that diagonality and podiums have a positive pricing differential of 12.4 and 9.7% more than rectilinear control buildings, respectively. Buildings with setbacks have a negative pricing differential of 10%. Furthermore, these results are also consistent for rental valuation. Results suggest that there is a significant economic impact of some architectural form interventions that differentiate commercial buildings and contribute to the role of form in design, planning and commercial real estate.

A theory that minimizes search, such as the probe-goal theory, provides a strong linguistic basis for the investigation of efficient parsing architecture. For parsing, two main design challenges are presented: (i) how to limit search while incrementally recovering structure from input without the benefit of a pre-determined lexical array, and (ii) how to come up with a system that not only correctly resolves parsing ambiguities, but does so with mechanisms that are architecturally justified. I take as the starting point an existing probe-goal parser with features that allow it to compute syntactic representation without recourse to derivation history search. I extend this parser to handle pre-nominal relative clauses of the sort found in SOV languages. I provide a unified computational account of facts on possessor (and non-possessor) relativization and processing preferences in Turkish, Japanese, and Korean.

This paper discusses experiences and architectural concepts developed and tested aimed at acquisition and processing of biomedical data in large scale system for elderly (patients) monitoring. Major assumptions for the research included utilisation of wearable and mobile technologies, supporting maximum number of inertial and biomedical data to support decision algorithms. Although medical diagnostics and decision algorithms have not been the main aim of the research, this preliminary phase was crucial to test capabilities of existing off-the-shelf technologies and functional responsibilities of system’s logic components. Architecture variants contained several schemes for data processing moving the responsibility for signal feature extraction, data classification and pattern recognition from wearable to mobile up to server facilities. Analysis of transmission and processing delays provided architecture variants pros and cons but most of all knowledge about applicability in medical, military and fitness domains. To evaluate and construct architecture, a set of alternative technology stacks and quantitative measures has been defined. The major architecture characteristics (high availability, scalability, reliability) have been defined imposing asynchronous processing of sensor data, efficient data representation, iterative reporting, event-driven processing, restricting pulling operations. Sensor data processing persist the original data on handhelds but is mainly aimed at extracting chosen set of signal features calculated for specific time windows – varying for analysed signals and the sensor data acquisition rates. Long term monitoring of patients requires also development of mechanisms, which probe the patient and in case of detecting anomalies or drastic characteristic changes tune the data acquisition process. This paper describes experiences connected with design of scalable decision support tool and evaluation techniques for architectural concepts implemented within the mobile and server software.

Projekt architektoniczny jest poddawany wielostopniowemu procesowi optymalizacji deweloperskiej, mającej na celu uzyskanie większego zysku ze sprzedaży mieszkań i zmniejszenia kosztów budowy ponoszonych przez dewelopera za cenę obniżenia standardów realizowanej architektury. Jedynym orężem w rękach architekta w walce o utrzymanie jakości projektu jest jego inwencja twórcza pozwalająca na znajdowanie ekonomicznych, lecz równoważnych jakościowo rozwiązań zamiennych. Przedstawiony przykład Osiedla Mieszkaniowego Centrum w Stargardzie ilustruje proces optymalizacji deweloperskiej projektu architektoniczno-urbanistycznego w kontekście jego realizacji wieloetapowej. Development optimization of a housing estate. Centrum Estate housing in Stargard as the case Architectural and urban design of a small, multi-family housing estate in a medium-size city seems not to be too complicated. However, in some cases of projects commissioned by developers, the architects proposal of a concept and functional and spatial programme becomes the subject of a relentless discourse on priorities in architectural and urban architecture during the entire process – from initial design to implementation. The architectural design undergoes a multi-phase process of development optimization, aimed at obtaining a greater profit on the sale of apartments and reducing the construction costs incurred by the developer at the cost of lowering the standards of the architectural and urban space being implemented. The only weapon in the hands of an architect in the fight to maintain the quality of the project is his creative invention that allows him to find economical, but qualitatively equivalent replacement solutions. The presented example of the living estate Centrum in Stargard illustrates the process of optimizing the development of an architectural and urban design in the context of its multiphase implementation. Although the significant design changes and replacement solutions introduced by the designer reduced the investment costs, but made it possible to maintain the basic architectural, functional and spatial values of the designed housing estate. The designer introduced significant design changes and solutions, errors lowering investment costs, technical solutions, developed by the designer of the value and technical-design functions with the designed values.

Contemporary architecture is more often thought about in the terms of self-sustainability and price efficiency. Choice of materials and the overall design including the building structure and the enclosures, its energy systems, the reuse of resources and the minimum waste production are discussed all over the world. Implementing buildings in natural sites or in sub-urban communities that are not connected to the usual urban facilities is always a challenge if we intend to use sustainable strategies. Our approach describes a case study of a design strategy based on a few general principles, crucial in optimizing material and energy consumption and waste and emissions reduction for a new construction. We will follow the interdisciplinary approach of the design process analyzing how each step taken to a certain direction affects the entire planning stage, influencing also the constructive systems. Also we will show how every used element influences the processes of the building with certain constraints for the architectural approach, especially in terms of functional and aesthetic valences.

The competence, commitment and attitudes of design consultants strongly influence the quality and costs of built facilities. However, in the selection of professional services it is often difficult to specify and assess non-price criteria related to both firms and individual consultants. Therefore, clients traditionally rely on long term relations or recommendations from clients or colleagues. Public procurement regulation, however, restricts the use of such informal data. This study seeks to understand how procurers act to reconcile these conflicting demands.An explorative questionnaire survey distributed to Swedish municipalities investigates which selection criteria and information sources are used, as well as perceived difficulties and shortcomings related to consultancy procurement. Results show a high focus on price or more easily measured non-price criteria. This might limit the ability of municipal officials to evaluate consultant competence, especially aspects related to design and execution of projects. Furthermore, personal information sources are widely used, indicating a conflict between procurement practice and existing regulation. Unexpectedly, procurement officials were generally satisfied with their procurement practice. However, managers and more experienced procurers tend to be more satisfied than other officials. Satisfaction also appears to be connected to the existence of a procurement policy and more advanced selection methods. Keywords: public procurement, selection, consultants, Sweden

A major problem with magnetogels is the encapsulation of hydrophobic drugs. Magnetoliposomes not only provide these domains but also improve drug stability and avert the aggregation of the magnetic nanoparticles. In this work, two magnetoliposome architectures, solid and aqueous, were combined with supramolecular peptide-based hydrogels, which are of biomedical interest owing to their biocompatibility, easy tunability, and wide array of applications. This proof-of-concept was carried out through combination of magnetoliposomes (loaded with the model drug curcumin and the lipid probe Nile Red) with the hydrogels prior to pH triggered gelation, and fluorescence spectroscopy was used to assess the dynamics of the encapsulated molecules. These systems allow for the encapsulation of a wider array of drugs. Further, the local environment of the encapsulated molecules after gelation is unaffected by the used magnetoliposome architecture. This system design is promising for future developments on drug delivery as it provides a means to independently modify the components and adapt and optimize the design according to the required conditions.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 with Web Application Microsoft SharePoint platform provide a solution for process control of business processes in company that is primarily offered like as the best solution. On the other hand, we found the possibility of open source content management system DotNetNuke, which meets customer's requirements and therefore, there is a possibility to reduce financial costs when selecting this system. Finally, we evaluated considered technologies, prepared more price variations of architecture and compared advantages and disadvantages of these variations.

Al-Awwabin Mosque is a mosque built in 1967. Currently the condition of the building is no longer able to accommodate pilgrims. Based on this, the mosque administrator took the initiative to build a new mosque, with a more adequate capacity. However, the mosque administrator experienced some obstacles in planning process of the mosque, including 1. Complexity of land topography problems, 2. Form of architectural design, structure, and preparation of the necessary budget plan, 3. The absence of human resources that have adequate competence in building planning. Based on this, the PKM team from the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Borneo Tarakan strives to make a scientific contribution in the planning of the mosque building, which aims to produce a mosque design with adequate capacity and has architectural value and structural strength in accordance with applicable standardization. The method is initiated by mapping the land, soil investigation (CPT), making preliminary architectural designs, analyzing building structures, making detailed drawings of building construction, and finally calculating the value of the required cost budget plan. The results of this activity is to provide an alternative design with a capacity of 659 worshippers, greater than the capacity of the mosque today. The resulting design of the new mosque consists of 3 floors of the building, where the 1st floor serves as a vehicle parking area and secretariat office, the 2nd and 3rd floors function as the main worship space. The construction of the mosque uses reinforced concrete material with a deep foundation that is Strouss Pile at a depth of 13,00 meters. The estimated value of the cost budget plan is Rp. 10.735.848.000,- based on the basic price of employment and material wages in the Tarakan City area. All design documents consisting of detail drawings, structure design, and DED are submitted to the mosque administrator, which will further serve for the management of building permits as well as references in the implementation of mosque construction. As most controllers of the carton samplemaker using Industrial Personal Computer (IPC) architecture, its price is relatively expensive. Aiming at the actual situation of the high cost, low openness and big demand of the carton samplemaker, through the analysis of the control characteristics of it, the embedded Numerical Control (NC) platform based on the Advanced RISC Machines (ARM) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP) hardware architecture for carton samplemaker is designed. The overall framework of the platform and steps of the design are given in this paper. Windows CE embedded real-time operating system is adopted in the software design, and on this basis, the carton samplemaker applications is developed, which is mainly in charge of the motion control of the equipment and tasks management. The platform not only achieves the goals on real-time control, good speed and accuracy, but also has friendly operability. Finally, the introduction of the new dual-core chips gives a revelation on the future development in carton samplemaker.

To encourage more talented researchers to enter this field and thereby advance this technology, this paper first introduces approaches to induce the phase transformation of chalcogenide alloy by probe tip, considered as the root of phase-change electrical probe memory. Subsequently the design rule of an optimized architecture of phase-change electrical probe memory is proposed based on a previously developed electrothermal and phase kinetic model, followed by a summary of the state-of-the-art phase-change electrical probe memory and an outlook for its future prospects.

Radioisotope imaging is a powerful tool to understand the biological mechanisms in-vivo, especially in the brain of small animals, providing a significant model to study the human brain. In this context, we have developed and built a pixelated intracerebral positron probe to be embedded on awake and freely moving small animals, typically rats. This pixelated probe will represent a key instrument for neuroscientists to study neural mechanisms and correlate them to behavioral experiments. We describe in this paper the simulations carried out to design the intracerebral sensor, its architecture, and the detection of positrons in a volume with a couple of sensors assembled back-to-back. We also depict the architecture of the wireless acquisition system. Finally, we present the first measurements performed in real-time by this miniaturized probe with sealed radioactive sources and a 18F solution.

SUMMARYThis paper introduces the design and the optimization of a probe holder robot for tele-echography applications. To define its kinematic architecture, an approach based on motion capture of an expert's gestures during ultrasound examinations was proposed. The medical gestures analyzed consisted of ultrasound probe movements and were used to characterize the kinematic specifications of the proposed manipulator. The selected architecture was a Spherical Parallel Mechanism (SPM) with 3 degrees of freedom (DoF) and its optimal synthesis was performed using real-coded Genetic Algorithms (GA). The optimization criteria and constraints were established thanks to the collaboration of medical experts and were successively formulated and solved using mono-objective and multi-objective functions.

The construction of the Bias Munjul Port in Nusa Ceningan went through re-design due to a request from the Minister of Transportation and the Governor of Bali because the design did not meet the Bali Provincial Regulation Number 5 of 2005 about Architectural Requirements for Buildings. It cost IDR 110,837,794,000.00 or more than 11.32% of the contract price IDR 98,292,823,000.00. It means that the price of construction has increased which exceeds the maximum limit for adding to the contract price based on Presidential Regulation Number 16 of 2018 which is 10% of the initial contract price. Therefore, it is necessary to do cost-effectiveness; a method that can be used to make costs efficient without reducing the value of the function is the Value Engineering method, a quantitive method. The steps taken in this research are: Information Phase, Functional Analysis Phase, Creative Phase, Evaluation Phase, Presentation Stage. In the first phase, the cost of the works is included in the budget plan using Pareto diagram. The results showed that the savings cost on the ro-ro dock was 6% of the initial plan using a pile foundation with a depth of 47 m. The dredging works obtained a 17% savings from the original plan using a dredging width of 100 m and a depth of -3.7 m. On architectural work, 81% savings from the original plan were obtained using batu candi. The total saving for all of these works was IDR 5,944,671,890.80 or 5.89% from the initial plan.

Radio frequency (RF) circuit elements that are traditionally considered to be linear frequently exhibit nonlinear properties that affect the intended operation of many other RF systems. Devices such as RF connectors, antennas, attenuators, resistors, and dissimilar metal junctions generate nonlinear distortion that degrades primary RF system performance. The communications industry is greatly affected by these unintended and unexpected nonlinear distortions. The high transmit power and tight channel spacing of the communication channel makes communications very susceptible to nonlinear distortion. To minimize nonlinear distortion in RF systems, specialized circuits are required to measure the low level nonlinear distortions created from traditionally linear devices, i.e., connectors, cables, antennas, etc. Measuring the low-level nonlinear distortion is a difficult problem. The measurement system requires the use of high power probe signals and the capability to measure very weak nonlinear distortions. Measuring the weak nonlinear distortion becomes increasingly difficult in the presence of higher power probe signals, as the high power probe signal generates distortion products in the measurement system. This paper describes a circuit design architecture that achieves 175 dB of dynamic range which can be used to measure low level harmonic distortion from various passive RF circuit elements.

<p>Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) represents a critical appurtenance to modern engineering that amalgamates the skills and techniques from various disciplines of engineering and computational science. Modern civil architectures, involving high-rise buildings, complex structural designs, and innovative shapes, on one hand represent the urban development, but at the same time is a challenge from sustainability perspective. In order to ensure the tenability of such structures, advanced SHM procedures need to be developed. The presented work in this paper is an effort on these lines. The wear and tear in the buildings related to weather, as well as other natural disasters, needs to be monitored regularly and systematically in order to prevent any serious structural damage. In current SHM practices, human experts are deployed at various structurally critical places on these buildings to perform specific measurements and analyze them to decide on the structural health condition. This simple approach is becoming more and more complicated as well as perilous for the human personnel involved, due to the modern architecture that involves greater heights, and complex structures. The proposed system utilizes flying and crawling/roving robots for this purpose. The flying robots, first, scan the surface of the building to any height needed, and then the custom-designed algorithms analyze the images from these scans in order to discern the possible defects/anomalies in the structure. Using these defect pointers, the custom-designed rover robot on top of the structure lowers a robotic probe that scans only those areas for substantiating the anomalies and the degree of defects present.</p>

Mechanical, materials, and biological causes of intracortical probe failure have hampered their utility in basic science and clinical applications. By anticipating causes of failure, we can design a system that will prevent the known causes of failure. The neural probe design was centered around a bio-inspired, mechanically-softening polymer nanocomposite. The polymer nanocomposite was functionalized with recording microelectrodes using a microfabrication process designed for chemical and thermal process compatibility. A custom package based upon a ribbon cable, printed circuit board, and a 3D-printed housing was designed to enable connection to external electronics. Probes were implanted into the primary motor cortex of Sprague-Dawley rats for 16 weeks, during which regular recording and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurement sessions took place. The implanted mechanically-softening probes had stable electrochemical impedance spectra across the 16 weeks and single units were recorded out to 16 weeks. The demonstration of chronic neural recording with the mechanically-softening probe suggests that probe architecture, custom package, and general design strategy are appropriate for long-term studies in rodents.

In this paper, a novel stock trading framework based on a neuro-fuzzy associative memory (FAM) architecture is proposed. The architecture incorporates the approximate analogical reasoning schema (AARS) to resolve the problem of discontinuous (staircase) response and inefficient memory utilization with uniform quantization in the associative memory structure. The resultant structure is conceptually clearer and more computationally efficient than the Compositional Rule Inference (CRI) and Truth Value Restriction (TVR) fuzzy inference schemes. The local generalization characteristic of the associative memory structure is preserved by the FAM-AARS architecture. The prediction and trading framework exploits the price percentage oscillator (PPO) for input preprocessing and trading decision making. Numerical experiments conducted on real-life stock data confirm the validity of the design and the performance of the proposed architecture.

It is reassuring to know that computers will only be as smart as we can program them. We can even control if they learn and how they learn. Design capabilities using generative methods agreeably are a product of both how smart we make the generative algorithms and how intelligently designers can make use of them. A human designer alone probably would not have come up with the canopy design built and a computer alone could not have.

The neural network is popular and used in many areas within the financial field, such as credit authorization screenings, regularities in security price movements, simulations of market behaviour, and so forth. In this research, the authors use a neural network technique for stock price forecasting of Great West Life, an insurance company based in Winnipeg, Canada. The Backpropagation algorithm is a popular algorithm to train a neural network. However, one drawback of traditional Backpropagation algorithm is that it takes a substantial amount of training time. To expedite the training process, the authors design and develop different parallel and multithreaded neural network algorithms. The authors implement parallel neural network algorithms on both shared memory architecture using OpenMP and distributed memory architecture using MPI and analyze the performance of those algorithms. They also compare the results with traditional auto-regression model to establish accuracy.

The lighting system allows you to add dynamics into the space, expressiveness or isolation. Created an environment which would be change for human need. Authors idea is to place all placemant in a room with area of 50 square meters (smart technology) - where you can move not only partitions, but also furniture, which can suit specific human needs. The curtains were expertly fitted into the interior of the Samt & Seide cafe by architects Mies van der Roet Lilly Reich, which was designed for Die Modeder Dame exhibition in Berlin. A space with 300 square meters was zoned with using silk and velvet curtains, which were divided according to their color and height. Examples of flexible space are WAarchi's architectural project: architects have successfully rethought the space of the first building of Taiwan's Chiao Tung University construction school. Also, the article outlines prospect development of adaptive design on architecture and historical background, show the results of the analysis of questions adaptive spaces in the context modern development of society. The paper is focused on design of time-to-digital converters based on successive approximation (SA-TDCs—Successive Approximation TDCs) using binary-scaled delay lines in the feedforward architecture. The aim of the paper is to provide a tutorial on successive approximation TDCs (SA-TDCs) on the one hand, and to make the contribution to optimization of SA-TDC design on the other. The proposed design optimization consists essentially in reduction of circuit complexity and die area, as well as in improving converter performance. The main paper contribution is the concept of reducing SA-TDC complexity by removing one of two sets of delay lines in the feedforward architecture at the price of simple output decoding. For 12 bits of resolution, the complexity reduction is close to 50%. Furthermore, the paper presents the implementation of 8-bit SA-TDC in 180 nm CMOS technology with a quantization step 25 ps obtained by asymmetrical design of pair of inverters and symmetrized multiplexer control.
