The urgency of the problem. Nowadays the topic of space exploration has proved to be very relevant for the world as a whole and for Ukraine. Almost all spheres of science are developing rather methodically and gradually. At the same time, space exploration is heterogeneous due to a number of factors, including economic, social and political factors. The sharp decline of Ukrainian space activity in the first years of independence and in times of crisis, of course, had a certain impact on the further progress of this field. However, our country is still a leader in space exploration. And our country provides space products, services and technologies in the world market. This year it has begun a development a plan of the integration of Ukraine into the European Space Agency. This work is mainly done on initiative of the scientists and not indifferent people who emphasize the importance of the development of astronautics and aviation, in particular by means of architecture. The problem is that the development of the Ukrainian space industry needs a constant focus on itself. Otherwise, the more "squat" problems of the domestic economy are pushing it out of the list of priority tasks. An important goal of our generation is to keep the space industry at a desirable level to develop it in the sequel. Unfortunately, this issue is not currently being promoted by potential specialists, and the interest in this field is gradually disappearing. In most cases, the people are not aware of the country's achievements in space and do not consider it important. It can be used an architectural environment to promote cosmonautics. Firstly, it involves all ages of citizens. Secondly, the information from the environment is unobtrusively delayed in the subconscious. Thirdly, it forms the correct and true idea of the cosmos. Every town or city of Uktaine that is connected with cosmonautics reflects the space theme in its own territory. These are 65 museums dedicated to space exploration, urban names (names of the streets, avenues and squares), small architectural forms, scenery and etc. . The goal of the work – to analyze the means that have been used (and continue to be used) in the territory of the town of Druzhkovka, Donetsk region, to promote the theme of Space.

The incomplete Temple of Didyma appeared in modern times as a constructed image, as an affirmation of the representative Greek temple. By the turn of the century the remains of the classical Didyma were rediscovered, the temple was redrawn and the site was literally and metaphorically "enframed." Reconstruction of the remains of classical antiquity provided beholders with the physical and aesthetic immediacy of a far distant past. Hence, the immediacy and tangibility of reconstructed images helped to differentiate between the world of the "original" configuration of the remains and that of their later existence. Given that the construction of architectural knowledge has rarely been questioned at Didyma, this study inquires into the codification of the remains of antiquity into the domain of the discipline of architecture, which ultimately differentiated the architectural product of a certain "golden age" from the historical processes in which it accumulated its meaning. The 1895-1896 "Beaux Arts" excavations and reconstruction seem to be the most representative example of such a codification. By the end of the 19th century reconstruction drawings represented the "unfinished" temple of Didyma in a complete form that has never been "achieved" in antiquity, while the excavations physically demolished the contemporary village surrounding the temple. Culminating with Hausoullier's and Pontremoli's representations, the reconstruction work metaphorically restarted the building at the point where it was interrupted in the late 4th century AD and transformed it into a finished, framed picture. Therefore, central to this study is a questioning of a 19th century scientific methodology in the uncovering and reassembling of architectural fragments which would ultimately take their place in the construction of an a priori image. But the study equally raises a more general question about the "framing" of the historical sites for "understanding" architecture and how this understanding might obscure the impetus of other historical and contextual concerns. In terms of historical interpretation, we have to clarify that the "modern" temple of Didyma exists today in the way it is represented. Just as the construction of the ideal image of Didyma has its historicity, the interpretation undertaken by this study is also bound by our own temporal world and takes a position vis-a.-vis the Beaux-Arts reconstruction. Beyond the aim of an "objective" reconstruction, this study intends to put the fragments of historical evidence together with later representations. Its aim, in other words, is to contribute to a "fusion" of discourses and interpretations in Western Anatolia. It is an attempt to claim the importance of site-specific concerns as opposed to all-encompassing, culture deterministic theories; an attempt for specificity without closure and inclusiveness without dispersion.

This thesis seeks to present, from a sociological standpoint, the unique characteristics of architectural work and, through them, to question both the modern notion of work and the mystifications that surround creative activities. In comparison with the social imaginary where work is associated with mechanical, repetitive practices, subject to a discipline distant to the individual and confused with employment, work in architecture is interpreted here in its qualitative dimension as a form of craftsmanship creation. Its craftsmanship characteristics are expressed in the collective processes of preparing an architectural design, passing by the modern society, containing a know-how that articulates both knowledge and practice, reflection and accomplishment. Adopting the methodological point of view of analytical approach to architecture in its actual conduct in order to identify who does the work and how the work is done , three architectural projects are presented based on the works of architect Luciano Margotto Soares. Further, indicating that the practices of project design and development of the architectural work imagined several creative acts emerge from repetitive movements that involve discipline and effort, therefore hard work, it brings elements that demystify the idealizations made around the architect, as bearer of hidden genius attributes.

While architecture inherently makes sound when people and the environment interact with it, architects seldom orchestrate a building to produce sound. This thesis proposes a sonic facade that turns an existing building into a sound producing instrument. Sonic facade is a wind powered sound producing device that can be integrated into a wall structure. The facade is produced out of a series tubes, or more technically, a series of air column vibrators. While all the tubes may be the same length, the combination of three different types of tubes produces different sounds. This thesis proposes a seven rule shape grammar for users to determine the placement and implementation of the sonic facade on an existing building and site. The shape grammar allows for a range of simple to complex possibilities that could be applied to a variety of buildings. The sonic facade not only has an aural quality, but it is also an indicator and transmitter of the outside world. When the tubes pass from the outside to the inside of a building, the wind, the rain, and passersby bring sound inside the building.

This thesis proposes a framework to articulate certain criteria in creative spatial productions such as architecture. I discuss that a conformist and unquestioning adaptation to conventional space conceptions limits enhancement of spatial sensibility, and consequently creativity. I connect such adaptations to linear progress of continuous and one directional accumulation. Specifically, I call attention to a non-linear progress that surpasses the limitations of these mental constructs and brings in creativity. My discussions are formed around how this non-linear progress might be conceived and sustained in dynamic systems of fragments. The thesis connects this inquiry to the historical and contemporary critique of positivism in the classical sciences, mainly due to the relation of origins of space conceptions to sciences.

This thesis explores the extent to which untrained annotators can create annotated corpora of scientific texts. Currently the variety and quantity of annotated corpora are limited by the expense of hiring or training annotators. The expense for finding and hiring professionals increases as the task becomes more esoteric or requiring of a specialized skill set. Training annotators is an investment in itself, often difficult to justify. Undergraduate students or volunteers may not remain with a project for long enough after being trained and graduate students' time may already be prioritized for other research goals. As the demand increases for computer programs capable of interacting with users through natural language, producing annotated datasets with which to train these programs is becoming increasingly important. This thesis presents an approach combining crowdsourcing with Luis von Ahn's "games with a purpose " paradigm. Crowdsourcing combines contributions from many participants in an online community. Games with a purpose incentivize voluntary contributions by providing an avenue for a task people are already incentivized to do, and collect data in the background. Here the desired data are annotations and the target community people annotating text for professional or personal benefit, such as scientists, researchers or the general public with an interest in science. An annotation tool was designed in the form of a Google Chrome extension specifically built to work with articles from the open-access, online scientific journal Public Library of Science (PLOS) ONE. A study was designed where participants with no prior annotator training were given a brief introduction to the annotation tool and assigned to annotate three articles. The results of the study demonstrate considerable annotator agreement. The results of this thesis demonstrate that crowdsourcing annotations is feasible even for technically sophisticated texts and presents a model of a platform that continuously gathers annotated corpora.

Emergence and spread of telecommunication technologies throughout the world facilitated acceleration in the pace of innovationin multitude of domains. Having access to the ongoing stream of information, the way human live has changed, and with it evolved the appearance and function of firms, markets, and their constituents. In this thesis we explore the co-evolution of firms and markets and observe the creation of new organizational architecture that resultas from this co-evolution. In chapter 1 we explore the numerous branches of the theory of the firm lterature and confront it to the phenomenon of platformization of markets through the study of the eBay case. Following the detailed annalysis of this case study, chapter 1 concludes that the concept of firm has undergone metamorphosis and has been redefined beyond the traditional and contemporary definitions of the firm. To adress this, we hence propose the concept of film / market equivalency. This concept is thoroughly explained ans discussed in the three chapters that follow. What the economists call a market failure, the entrepreneurs call a market opportunity. Firms today are the intricate interlacing of interactons, which arise in response to market failures. In chapter 2 we describe how the market opportunities that emerge as a result are adressed by the firms through market support strategy, i.e through creation of platforms. Not only do the firms facilitate marketa ctivity by providing participants with basic ressources, firm also take up a leading role in the regulation of all of their creation's activities. The purpose of chapter 2 is to explore the phenomenon of concurrent double function of firm, market creation and market support, through the concept of film / market equivalency. We explain the role of firms that that choose to position themselves as intermediaries and take charge over platform construction, operation and support. In the literature, ssuch firms are referred to as central partners who form what the management calls business ecosystems. Chapter 3 discusses a different take on the platform creation strategy. Whereas in chapter 2 we focused on the types of firms that create and support the platforms,in the third chapter we take a closer look at the constituents of platforms : the small players. In text we adress these players as "firms-satellites" due to their tendency to gravitate toward creators and operators of platforms. We study the role of these firms-staellites in the platform-based ecosystems and identify that some of firms-satellites may potentially bear threats to the platform owners. We then discuss the issues of clustering and multi-homing as welle as how these issues affect central firms, their business ecosystems and whether or not these behaviors are a source of competitive pressure. Chapter 4 discusses the dynamics of firm / market equivalency. Ideally, firm / market equivalency has two dimensions : innovation and business development. In this model, the platfform is a central sociotechnical artefact that supports openness strategies in both dimensions. It facilitates sharing and exchanges among participants. Such systems are not static. They co-evolve with their constituents : the participants and the platform owner. This chapter explores the dynamics involved in firm / market equivalency models. For each stage of development (birth, expansion, leadership, renewal), we study the architecture of the platform, the behaviour of participants and the strategic responseof the platform owner. We conclude the thesis with discussion ofa ntitrust issues that do or may arise as the result of employment of amrket creation and support strategies

Purpose: This study examines temporary architecture as a phenomenon. Temporary architecture is ephemeral structures with varying sizes and shapes that takes city’s public spaces in possession during short periods of time. As a phenomenon, temporary architecture is relatively new, but begins to appear more often in larger cities. Some research has been made on the subject in matter, but few researches describes the process behind and how social sustainability can be linked to temporary architecture. The research questions are: (1) How can temporary architecture contribute to increased social sustainability? (2) What characterizes the temporary architecture implementation process today? Method: The study is of descriptive nature and aims to create further understanding of temporary architecture. Data gathering are based on a qualitative approach through targeted interviews with relevant respondents from public and private sectors. A literature review is also conducted with the intention to clarify current research situation surrounding the study phenomenon. Findings: Research question 1 indicates that temporary architecture affects social sustainability in several ways. Four core values that each reinforce each other have been identified. These are community, participation, trust and movement. The temporary architecture encourages community and participation between people by providing short-term events to gather around in public space. New meetings enable trust, which leads to increased mobility. Movement resolves the social constraint principles in society and contributes to an increased community. Research question 2 indicates that the implementation processes for temporary architecture can differ widely depending on the context in which the temporary architecture is to be implemented. The question also indicates that there are several difficulties in the implementation process today. Significantly, in many cases the challenges outweighs the possibilities, why initiatives can be omitted. Implications: Short-term space-creating initiatives like temporary architecture enhance social qualities to urban life beyond the qualities usually obtained by traditional urban planning processes. The strength of temporary architecture lies within its formative and spatial flexibility as well as its ability to create increased participation and better access to the city’s content for people. Limitations: The study focuses on a social sustainability perspective only and excludes the economic and ecological perspective of the phenomena. The interview study is limited to only take planning and municipal perspective in concern. Business and user perspectives are therefore not taken into account.

Richard Florida's argument about creative class as the most powerful engine for economic growth of cities is validity; however, this thesis argues it is not creative class or a certain group of individuals but creative spirit that can truly contribute to city's prosperity; therefore, creating environment that can motivate the creative spirit of any socioeconomic class is the true engine for economic growth. Based on the basic premise described above, this thesis constructs a market-sensitive planning tool that can efficiently engineer creative environment. Going on step further, this thesis argues that creative economy does not derive from the number of creative people but from environment balanced with civic attributes that motivate creative spirit become creative activities. Applying portfolio theory from finance discipline to socioeconomic data about cities, this thesis suggests ways to build creative environment and further investigates potential vehicles that can facilitate the process of making creative environment which takes place as a form of efficient urban portfolios.

This thesis presents the design and creation of a 3D virtual world of Petra, Jordan, based on the digital spatial documentation of this UNESCO World Heritage Site by the Zamani project. Creating digital records of the spatial domain of heritage sites is a well-established practice that employs the technologies of laser scanning, GPS and traditional surveys, aerial and close range photogrammetry, and 360-degree panorama photography to capture spatial data of a site. Processing this data to produce textured 3D models, sections elevations, GISs, and panorama tours to has led to the establishment of the field of virtual heritage. Applications to view this spatial data are considered too specialised to be used by the general public with only trained heritage practitioners being able to use the data. Additionally, data viewing platforms have not been designed to allow for the viewing of combinations of 3D data in an intuitive and engaging manner as currently each spatial data type must be viewed by independent software. Therefore a fully integrated software platform is needed which would allow any interested person, without prior training, easy access to a combination of spatial data, from anywhere in the world. This study seeks to provide a solution to the above requirement by using a game engine to assimilate spatial data of heritage sites in a 3D virtual environment where a virtual visitor is able to interactively engage with combinations of spatial data. The study first begins with an analysis of what virtual heritage applications, in the form of virtual environments, have been created, and the elements that were used in their creation. These elements are then applied to the design and creation of the virtual world of Petra.

A digital paint package has been developed which places attention on the design of personal "brush " patterns. The user generates an image by iterating these pattern modules on the raster display. During the application of a pattern, it can grow, shrink, and change in opacity level under the user's control. This method of digitally creating images was developed in light of the problem of representing visual characteristics effectively while "painting" with a computer graphics system . Allowing the user to design personal brush patterns, which can be stored in a library of patterns, and to make marks by repeating them, expands the potential visual qualities of the image as demonstrated by sample images included in this thesis. Software functions are provided for creating and editing patterns through a menu of selections. These functions treat individual shapes and colors in a pattern as separate entities that can be manipulated. Shapes can be manipulated individually, or as a selected group. The manipulation functions include the following: move, copy, scale, and delete. Software functions are also provided for the editing of color components. One method allows a color's red, green, and blue components to be adjusted. And the other allows its hue, lightness, and saturation levels to be adjusted.

Inspired by my final Studio IV project in 2010, the Capsule Hotel, and the growing demand for efficient housing due to overcrowding in developing cities, this thesis explores, examines and realizes the need for compact homes. The need of reducing a small living space to the bare necessities, whilst allowing consumers to quickly transform and personalize the function requires great understanding of space efficiency and construction methods. Realizing a carefully designed space is one thing, but actually understanding how or why it is put together in a particular way is another. In this day and age, architects tend to create with the intention of purely design and often forget to consider and fully understand how the pieces actually come together, often leaving such tasks to contractors to "work out". What would happen to the design industry if consumers were not only able to customize and assemble their own apartment furniture, but at the same time get involved in the design of their furniture units? How would this impact consumers as well as the industry? The driving force behind Capsule Homes is to design a product that will provide users with the everyday amenities that can be transformed and customized, whilst involving the consumers in the affordable construction process. My thesis acts as a design proposal for introducing a new method of designing and customizing living spaces, whilst involving the consumer in the process from ordering units to understanding the construction methods, to ultimately living in a customizable quarters. Based on my research and analysis, I will construct a 1/4-scale prototype of thoroughly designed, flat-pack, customizable furniture.

[EN] Since the appearance of the studio figure at the beginning of the 20th century in Vienna and the consolidation of the Bauhaus proposals as the ideal teaching model, a variety of strategies to approach the architectural project have appeared trying to respond to contextual, political, and cultural problems. However, many strategies remain attached to logics that demand an update that includes transdisciplinary proposals focused on students. This research, concerned with the pedagogy of the project, suggests that to propose more efficient and up-to-date project didactics, these must be approached not only from the logics of project research but also must intersect with the studies of creativity, and the voice of the students, their concerns and their ways of learning, since it is considered that teaching is a complex gear that is built in the relationships between actors and their contextual variables. Consequently, and to address the aforementioned fronts, the research was structured on three pillars whose hypotheses emerged as both the State of the Art and the Study Case were developed. First, an exploration of creativity studies was made to define where the architectural production is framed concluding that it lyes on an interdependent system, and that problem construction is needed to guarantee original and quality proposals. Second, in the light of project research, some models and process typologies were analyzed, concluding that the models linked to the Scientific Paradigm are contraindicated for project disciplines and, that the studio teaching needs a fundamental change. Third and to support these findings, a Stuy Case was developed at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Bogota) with the participation of about 2000 students of the Architecture Program. They were interviewed, surveyed, tested, and observed for a year. All sources were analyzed according to the Grounded Theory guidelines and after three cycles of analysis and conceptualization, it is concluded that there are five factors that suggest relevant changes in the pedagogy of the project and that, consistent with the initial proposal. These factors synthesize all the findings resulting from the analysis and their interpretation and suggest changes that will promote deeper and motivated learning from: the dimensions of teaching planning, the school climate, the Conjecture-Analysis models, the construction of problems, and the differentiation of teaching strategies.
