In this work, VVER fuel assembly is calculated using two different codes - Serpent and SCALE. Multiplication factor and several two-group macroscopic parameters including scattering cross-section, fission cross-section, total cross-section and diffusion coefficient were studied. In addition to this, fuel isotopic composition dependency on burnup was calculated as a part of this study. Obtained data are compared and differences are discussed. Both codes provides similar results for all studied parameters.

The paper is focused on evaluation of the relation between mechanical properties of 3D printed stainless steel 316L-0407 and printing direction (i.e. the orientation of the part which is being printed in the manufacturing device) subjected to compressive loading at different strain-rates. In order to evaluate the strain rate dependency of the 3D printed material’s compressive characteristics, dynamic and quasi-static experiments were performed. Three sets of bulk specimens were produced, each having a different printing orientation with respect to the powder bed plane (vertical, horizontal and tilted). To assess the deformation behaviour of the 3D printed material, compressive stress-strain diagrams and compressive yield strength and tangent modulus were evaluated.

Trends in modern society have a significant impact on the way organizations operate. The use of mobile phones makes it possible to create completely new high-availability communication and business channels. Mobile phones are used in mobile marketing, which has come to the fore via SMS marketing. In this article, the focus is on the use of mobile phones in e-business. The introduction of a new mobile player app store was analyzed through research conducted in 2017. The aim of the research was to find out whether it is possible—in terms of the sustainability of the consumption of a marketing product—to introduce a single campaign with the same content but in different language mutations in selected markets, or whether it is necessary to use a completely different campaign and means of communication for each market. Overall, 287 respondents from the Philippines, Thailand, and India were examined. The dependency between the socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents (country, gender, and age) and site engagement was tested, and user experience was tested, too. The results of the research revealed that there was no dependency between belonging to the selected countries and site engagement. Furthermore, there was also no dependency between gender and site engagement. On the other hand, there was a statistically significant dependency between belonging to the country and the design of the website.

Software piracy is an act of illegal stealing and distributing commercial software either for revenue or identify theft. Pirated applications on Android app stores are harming developers and their users by clone scammers. The scammers usually generate pirated versions of the same applications and publish them in different open-source app stores. There is no centralized system between these app stores to prevent scammers from publishing pirated applications. As most of the app stores are hosted on cloud storage, therefore a cloud-based interaction system can prevent scammers from publishing pirated applications. In this paper, we proposed IoT-based cloud architecture for clone detection using program dependency analysis. First, the newly submitted APK and possible original files are selected from app stores. The APK Extractor and JDEX decompiler extract APK and DEX files for Java source code analysis. The dependency graphs of Java files are generated to extract a set of weighted features. The Stacked-Long Short-Term Memory (S-LSTM) deep learning model is designed to predict possible clones. Experimental results have shown that the proposed approach can achieve an average accuracy of 95.48% among clones from different application stores.

To what extent do colonial public investments continue to influence current regional inequalities in French-speaking West Africa? Using a new database and the spatial discontinuities of colonial investment policy, this paper gives evidence that early colonial investments had large and persistent effects on current outcomes. The nature of investments also matters. Current educational outcomes have been more specifically determined by colonial investments in education rather than health and infrastructures, and vice versa. I show that a major channel for this historical dependency is a strong persistence of investments; regions that got more at the early colonial times continued to get more. Functional technological applications have become an integral part of our lives changing our patterns of reasoning and behavior. The current study examines whether, how and why use of WAZE app, a popular GPS-based navigation application, demonstrate behaviors and patterns which resemble those of technological dependency. We conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with 50 WAZE users. The questions took inspiration from the model of IT addiction, which identifies six behavioral parameters: withdrawal, conflict, mood modification, relapse, tolerance, and saliency. The novelty of the study lies in the evidence of patterns and behaviors which resemble technological dependency on the WAZE app. The findings indicate that WAZE app satisfies users’ needs driven by functionality. Four behavioral characteristics associated with IT addiction are applicable to WAZE users: mood modification, conflict, relapse, and withdrawal. The study concludes that functional technological applications may trigger behavioral indicators of technological addiction.

Laminated glass combines two remarkable materials: glass and a polymer ply. While glass is stiff and brittle, the polymer ply is a rate-dependent compliant material. Together, they form a material which keeps the aesthetic value of glass, and due to the polymer, no fragile collapse appears. The polymer ply exhibits time- and temperature-dependency, whereas glass suffers from brittle fracture, which makes the analysis difficult. In this article, a 2D sectional plane-stress model for the viscoelastic analysis of laminated glass is presented. This study presents one step in the development of a phase-field-based damage solver for laminated glass to select the optimal time-integration scheme for a quasistatic-analysis and later also for dynamics. The validation against experimental data is provided, and the model reduction is also discussed.

The effect of six different anions on the volume response of ouabain-resistant K transport was systematically studied at extracellular pH (pHo) = 7.4 in sheep red blood cells of both low and high K genotype before and after treatment with the sulfhydryl (SH) reagent N-ethylmaleimide (NEM). In methanesulfonate (CH3SO3), both the apparent Rb permeability (P(app)Rb), calculated from ouabain-resistant Rb influx), and K permeability (PK, calculated from the rate constants of ouabain-resistant zero-trans K efflux, 0k(OR)K) were volume independent and close to 10(-10) cm/s for both cell types, but in Cl, Br, I, SCN, and NO3 they were significantly different in low and high K cells with altered cell volumes. Thus, in 15% osmotically shrunken low K cells, P(app)Rb) and PK were similar regardless of the anions present, but upon 10-15% swelling, they increased to approximately 4-6 X 10(-9) cm/s in Br and 2 X 10(-9) cm/s in Cl and also increased with comparatively small increments in I, SCN, and NO3. Treatment with NEM enhanced both P(app)Rb) and PK, particularly in shrunken low K cells, to approximately 10(-8) cm/s in Br and Cl but not in I, SCN, and NO3. In shrunken or isotonic high K cells, P(app)Rb) and PK were close to 10(-10) cm/s in all anions except for SCN. Swelling and/or NEM increased PK and P(app)Rb) in Cl and Br only two- to threefold.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)

Neuronal activity has an impact on β cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP) by BACE1 to generate amyloid-β peptide (Aβ). However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this effect remain to be elucidated. Cholesterol dependency of β cleavage prompted us to analyze immunoisolated APP-containing detergent-resistant membranes from rodent brains. We found syntaxin 1 as a key molecule for activity-dependent regulation of APP processing in cholesterol-dependent microdomains. In living cells, APP associates with syntaxin 1–containing microdomains through X11–Munc18, which inhibits the APP–BACE1 interaction and β cleavage via microdomain segregation. Phosphorylation of Munc18 by cdk5 causes a shift of APP to BACE1-containing microdomains. Neuronal hyperactivity, implicated in Aβ overproduction, promotes the switching of APP microdomain association as well as β cleavage in a partially cdk5-dependent manner. We propose that microdomain switching is a mechanism of cholesterol- and activity-dependent regulation of APP processing in neurons.

To satisfy the increasing demand of energy efficient buildings, AAC manufacturers are nowadays encouraged to produce blocks with ever lower densities. However, a compromise between energy-saving requirements and mechanical performances is needed to ensure structural safety, as well as an adequate structural durability. This paper reports a comprehensive experimental study on AAC mechanical properties (compressive and tensile strengths, as well as fracture energy), and on their dependency from material density and moisture content. The collected data are compared with some well-known analytical relations taken from the literature, which are often used for the calibration of mechanical parameters required for mathematical and/or finite element modelling of AAC load-bearing masonry, as well as of AAC masonry-infilled framed structures. These comparisons highlight some critical issues in the formulation of analytical relations having a general applicability; however, it was found that RILEM suggestions are appropriate for the considered AAC productions, at least for densities greater than 400 kg/m3.

Background As a result of an aging population, there has been an increasing incidence of hip fractures worldwide. In the Netherlands, in order to improve the quality of care for elderly patients with hip fractures, the multidisciplinary Centre for Geriatric Traumatology was established in 2008 at the Department of Trauma Surgery at Ziekenhuisgroep Twente hospital (located in Almelo and Hengelo in the Netherlands). Objective Though the Dutch Hip Fracture audit is used to monitor the quality of care for patients with fractures of the hip, only 30.7% of patients complete registration in the 3-month follow-up period. Mobile apps offer an opportunity for improvement in this area. The aim of this study was to investigate the usability and acceptance of a mobile app for gathering indicators of quality of care in a 3-month follow-up period after postoperative treatment of hip fracture. Methods From July 2017 to December 2017, patients who underwent surgical treatment for hip fracture were recruited. Patients and caregivers, who were collectively considered the participant cohort, were asked to download the app and answer a questionnaire. Participants were divided into two groups—those who downloaded the app and those who did not download the app. A telephone interview that was based upon the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology was conducted with a subset of participants from each group (1:1 ratio). This study was designated as not being subject to the Dutch Medical Research Involving Human Subjects Act according to the appropriate medical research ethics committees. Results Of the patients and caregivers who participated, 26.4% (29/110) downloaded the app, whereas 73.6% (81/110) did not. Telephone interviews with the subset of participants (n=24 per group) revealed that 54.0% (13/24) of the group of participants who did not download the app had forgotten the study. Among the group who downloaded the app, 95.8% (23/24) had the intention of completing the questionnaire, but only 4.2% (1/24) did so. The reasons for not completing the questionnaire included technical problems, cognitive disorders, or patient dependency on caregivers. Most participants in the group who downloaded the app self-reported a high level of expertise in using a smartphone (22/24, 91.7%), and sufficient facilitating conditions for using a smartphone were self-reported in both groups (downloaded the app: 23/24, 95.8%; did not download the app: 21/24, 87.5%), suggesting that these factors were not barriers to completion. Conclusions Despite self-reported intention to use the app, smartphone expertise, and sufficient facilitating conditions for smartphone use, implementation of the mobile app was infeasible for daily practice. This was due to a combination of technical problems, factors related to the implementation process, and the population of interest having cognitive disorders or a dependency on caregivers for mobile technology.

With the rapid advance of mobile computing technology and wireless networking, there is a significant increase of mobile applications (apps). This brings new business requirements and demands in mobile software testing, and causes new issues and challenges in mobile test automation. Existing mobile application testing approaches mostly concentrate on GUI-based testing, load and performance testing without considering large-scale concurrent mobile app test automation, and model-based test coverage analysis. In this paper, a mobile hierarchical GUI model is proposed to present mobile operation scenario flows and gesture features in a hierarchical manner, in order to facilitate test dependency analysis in test automation. Mobile app test coverage analysis is performed based on GUI ripping models. The paper also presents a developed system that provides a test automation solution using GUI models. Finally, the paper reports a case study to indicate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

How can we encourage people to make sustainable mobility choices, reducing car dependency and the related CO 2 emissions and energy consumption? Taking advantage of the wide availability of smartphone devices, we designed GoEco!, an application (app) exploiting automatic mobility tracking, eco-feedback, social comparison and gamification elements to persuade individuals to change their mode of transport. The app features and contents are grounded in the transtheoretical model for behaviour change and were designed to avoid over-reliance on “one-size-fits-all”, simplistic point-based systems. The GoEco! app was designed in a user centred approach and was field-tested in Switzerland in a three-month experiment involving around 150 voluntary users. In this paper, we present the app’s features and comment on their evaluation from the perspective of the field-testers. The insights we collected through an online questionnaire and individual interviews allowed us to develop recommendations for similar persuasive apps and to identify open challenges for the future. In particular, we recommend to endow such apps with multi-modal travel planning components and features evoking the feeling of belonging to a community, that provide support and helping relationships.

Background Health apps for the screening and diagnosis of mental disorders have emerged in recent years on various levels (eg, patients, practitioners, and public health system). However, the diagnostic quality of these apps has not been (sufficiently) tested so far. Objective The objective of this pilot study was to investigate the diagnostic quality of a health app for a broad spectrum of mental disorders and its dependency on expert knowledge. Methods Two psychotherapists, two psychology students, and two laypersons each read 20 case vignettes with a broad spectrum of mental disorders. They used a health app (Ada—Your Health Guide) to get a diagnosis by entering the symptoms. Interrater reliabilities were computed between the diagnoses of the case vignettes and the results of the app for each user group. Results Overall, there was a moderate diagnostic agreement (kappa=0.64) between the results of the app and the case vignettes for mental disorders in adulthood and a low diagnostic agreement (kappa=0.40) for mental disorders in childhood and adolescence. When psychotherapists applied the app, there was a good diagnostic agreement (kappa=0.78) regarding mental disorders in adulthood. The diagnostic agreement was moderate (kappa=0.55/0.60) for students and laypersons. For mental disorders in childhood and adolescence, a moderate diagnostic quality was found when psychotherapists (kappa=0.53) and students (kappa=0.41) used the app, whereas the quality was low for laypersons (kappa=0.29). On average, the app required 34 questions to be answered and 7 min to complete. Conclusions The health app investigated here can represent an efficient diagnostic screening or help function for mental disorders in adulthood and has the potential to support especially diagnosticians in their work in various ways. The results of this pilot study provide a first indication that the diagnostic accuracy is user dependent and improvements in the app are needed especially for mental disorders in childhood and adolescence.

We explored the potential of asthma apps to support self-management and identified preferred features that enable users to live with asthma. We recruited patients from five UK practices and social media; observed their usage of our app, administered a questionnaire and interviewed a purposive sample of patients and professionals to explore preferred features. Thematic analysis of interview was synthesised with quantitative data. A total of 111 patients used our app for 3 months. We interviewed 15 patients and 16 professionals. Participants were interested in a broad range of self-management support strategies, including action plans, monitoring with feedback, allergy/weather warnings and tailor-made running coaching. Professionals wanted to integrate patients’ logs with practice records, though were concerned about data overload and risk of patient dependency. We propose a paradigm shift - from apps developed to provide features that are easy to implement technologically, to an approach in which apps are designed to deliver theoretically grounded preferred components.

Mobile apps are booming with the expansion of mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, smartwatches, and IoT devices. As the capabilities of mobile apps and the types of personal information required to run apps have diversified, the need for increased security has grown. In particular, Android apps are vulnerable to repackaging attacks, so various code protection techniques such as obfuscation and packing have been applied. However, apps protected with these techniques can also be disabled with static and dynamic analyses. In recent years, instead of using such application level protection techniques, a number of approaches have been adopted to monitor the behavior of apps at the platform level. However, in these cases, not only incompatibility of system software due to platform modification, but also self-control functionality cannot be provided at the user level and is very inconvenient. Therefore, in this paper we propose an app protection scheme that can split a part of the app code, store it in a separate IoT device, and self-control the split code through the partial app. In the proposed scheme, the partial app is executed only when it matches the split code stored in the IoT device. It does not require complicated encryption techniques to protect the code like the existing schemes. It also provides solutions to the parameter dependency and register reallocation issues that must be considered when implementing the proposed code splitting scheme. Finally, we present and analyze the results of experimenting the proposed scheme on real devices.

Abstract Objective To develop an app for Android smartphones (named 3Ollin) that assess the fall risk through the automated analysis of three physical performance (PP) tests and the history of falls of the participant. Design Cross-sectional design. Setting Community-dwelling older adults studied at the Functional Evaluation Laboratory at the National Institute of Geriatrics in Mexico. Participants Older adults (n=223) living in Mexico City were included. The participants were recruited from groups of pensioners from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, church groups, and other community programs. Measurements Data were collected about demographics, comorbidities, cognitive status, nutritional status, dependency and PP variables. The 3Ollin app evaluates the PP of the participants through the history of falls, the Timed Up and Go, the 30-second chair stand, and the 4-stage balance tests. The app incorporates them into the CDC’s Algorithm for Fall Risk Screening, Assessment, and Intervention. Methods All participants were evaluated by trained staff. The app has a registration system for users and patients, allows to perform the PP tests, acquires the data from the sensors signals, and sends and stores the information in the server of the National Institute of Geriatrics in Mexico. Results The mean age of the studied population was 73.5±7.0 years, 77.6% were women, and 37.2% did not complete the 4-stage balance test. The mean percentage error (MPE) between the gait speed measured through the GAITRite walkway (ms=103.5±26.1 cm/s) and the 3Ollin app (ms=100.0±30.3 cm/s) was 10.7%. The MPE between the number of chair lifts in 30 s according to the evaluator's observations (mCL=15±6 repetitions), and the 3Ollin app (mCL=19±6 repetitions) was 23.4%. Additionally, 87% were correctly classified according to the 3Ollin app. Conclusions This design first step of the 3Ollin app probed to offer a valid, efficient, costless performance evaluation, without the need of a laboratory environment.

Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) and practices (MBPs) can promote better health outcomes. Although MBIs and MBPs were developed to be delivered in-person, mobile health (mHealth) tools such as apps have made these more accessible. Mindfulness apps (MAs) are popular among emerging adults (EAs) who have the highest ownership of smartphones and who are also at risk for distress. While adverse effects have been observed with MBIs/MBPs, this has not been examined when mindfulness is practiced using apps. We interviewed EAs (n = 22) to capture their motivations for using these apps and identified health-inhibiting and enhancing experiences. Data were thematically analyzed using the constant comparative method. Motivations for app use included accessibility, convenience, and stress/health management. EAs described health-enhancing outcomes (reduced distress, improved physical symptoms, increased focus) and health-inhibiting outcomes (worsened distress, performance uncertainty, dependency development, worsened physical health). They provided suggestions for improving apps (e.g., feedback option). These findings illustrate benefits and risks that EAs may encounter when practicing mindfulness using apps, which can inform the best practices for app design.

Caregivers remain the primary source of attachment, nurturing, and socialization for human beings in our current society. Family caregivers provide 11 to 100 h of care per week to their loved ones, including emotional and social support, assistance with transportation, home care, and so on. However, caregivers find the workload challenging due to fatigue, burnout, depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, and sometimes also from an excessive burden. Caregiver burden and stress ultimately negatively affect family members and caregivers. The caregiver is then at risk of developing deleterious physical, psychological, social, and emotional problems such as mood and anxiety disorders. Mobile health applications (mHealth applications) can be a solution to help family caregivers care for their loved ones and also for themselves. In this study, we present the development of an mHealth application for caregivers of persons with substance use and tested its usability. We used a user-centered design and intervention (UCDI) approach to develop the app by conducting a focus group with parents of individuals with addiction problems. Four key themes were identified during the focus group: (i) information section, (ii) self-care section, (iii) how-to: stress-reduction section, and (iv) chat section. The final app was developed with the software vendor and divided into several sections that were useful for managing psychological problems (such as stress or anxiety), informing about addiction and behavioral dependency problems, and helping users find a professional or services nearby. An analysis of the results of a usability test related to the app administered to a subsample of the focus group showed that the app provided ease of use, usefulness, and satisfaction.

Teachers' professional development plays a key role in imparting quality education. However, the design and delivery of quality professional development programs is a challenging problem due to numerous issues such as inadequate policies, lack of skilled personnel and training, politically influenced appointments, and dependency on the traditional modes of training. The COVID-19 pandemic has further escalated the situation and severely affected trainers’ and trainees' interest, motivation, and engagement. Due to its ubiquitous, flexible, and cost-effective nature, technology has played a key role in carrying out educational activities even in the pandemic situation. However, little emphasis has been provided on the use of technology for the professional development of teachers. This study investigates the effects of mobile-based training app on teachers learning outcomes and attitudes towards its usage. The training app is based on our enhanced CPD model for teachers' professional development. For the study, 308 in-service elementary school teachers of division shaheed Benazirabad are selected for the training and assessment purposes. To perform the experiments, teachers were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The experimental group contained 158 teachers which were provided training through the mobile app. The remaining 150 teachers of the control group were provided training using the traditional physical appearance. Pre and post-test were designed to examine the effects of mobile-based training on the teachers’ learning outcomes before and after the training intervention. Besides assessing the learning outcomes, the attitude towards the use of the training app was also assessed using the attitude scale. The analysis of results determined that the training through a mobile app has a significant effect on teachers learning outcomes in terms of knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Furthermore, teachers showed a positive attitude towards the use of training app. The experimental group had significantly high attitude scores in post-test toward mobile-based training systems. Teachers’ experience using the mobile app has been perceived as an approach that has significantly increased teaching proficiency. Experimental results suggest that mobile-based professional development modes positively impact teachers' professional and academic achievement and performance to produce a rising number of certified teachers irrespective of time, space, and financial constraints.

During the last decade, orthopedic oncology has experienced the benefits of computerized medical imaging to reduce human dependency, improving accuracy and clinical outcomes. However, traditional surgical navigation systems do not always adapt properly to this kind of interventions. Augmented reality (AR) and three-dimensional (3D) printing are technologies lately introduced in the surgical environment with promising results. Here we present an innovative solution combining 3D printing and AR in orthopedic oncological surgery. A new surgical workflow is proposed, including 3D printed models and a novel AR-based smartphone application (app). This app can display the patient’s anatomy and the tumor’s location. A 3D-printed reference marker, designed to fit in a unique position of the affected bone tissue, enables automatic registration. The system has been evaluated in terms of visualization accuracy and usability during the whole surgical workflow. Experiments on six realistic phantoms provided a visualization error below 3 mm. The AR system was tested in two clinical cases during surgical planning, patient communication, and surgical intervention. These results and the positive feedback obtained from surgeons and patients suggest that the combination of AR and 3D printing can improve efficacy, accuracy, and patients’ experience.

Purpose The overall tourist experience is changing because of the development of mobile devices, ubiquitous internet access and applications (apps) designed specifically for tourism. The aim of this study is to identify the determinants of continued use and recommendation of such apps (loyalty), framed within the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) model, considering innate user traits (innovativeness) and one of the principal attributes of mobile phones (portability). Design/methodology/approach The sample comprised 285 Spanish tourists who owned a smartphone and were using some kind of mobile app in connection with their stay. Findings The results show that the UTAUT2 model is effective in explaining loyalty toward tourism apps and that its variables mediate the effect of user and mobile device characteristics. Research limitations/implications To ensure continued use of a tourism app, it should possess the following core attributes: deliver a positive cost–benefit trade-off, be fun to use, provide up-to-date and useful information and generate a degree of dependency in the user. Originality/value The present research is particularly relevant because of its focus on the use of apps during the stay, given that most of the extant literature centers on previous stages (such as service booking).

The present urban transportation system, mostly tailored for cars, has long shown its limitations. In many urban areas, public transportation and soft mobility would be able to effectively satisfy many travel needs. However, they tend to be neglected, due to a deep-rooted car dependency. How can we encourage people to make sustainable mobility choices, reducing car use and the related CO 2 emissions and energy consumption? Taking advantage of the wide availability of smartphone devices, we designed GoEco!, a smartphone application exploiting automatic mobility tracking, eco-feedback, social comparison and gamification elements to persuade individual modal change. We tested the effectiveness of GoEco! in two regions of Switzerland (Cantons Ticino and Zurich), in a large-scale, one year long randomized controlled trial. Notwithstanding a large drop-out rate experienced throughout the experiment, GoEco! was observed to produce a statistically significant impact (a decrease in CO 2 emissions and energy consumption per kilometer) for systematic routes in highly car-dependent urban areas, such as the Canton Ticino. In Zurich, instead, where high quality public transport is already available, no statistically significant effects were found. In this paper we present the GoEco! experiment and discuss its results and the lessons learnt, highlighting practical difficulties in performing randomized controlled trials in the field of mobility and providing recommendations for future research.

We have incorporated CYP3A4 (cytochrome P450 3A4) and CPR (NADPH-cytochrome P450 reductase) into liposomes with a high lipid/protein ratio by an improved method. In the purified proteoliposomes, CYP3A4 binds testosterone with Kd (app)=36±6 μM and Hill coefficient=1.5±0.3, and 75±4% of the CYP3A4 can be reduced by NADPH in the presence of testosterone. Transfer of the first electron from CPR to CYP3A4 was measured by stopped-flow, trapping the reduced CYP3A4 as its Fe(II)–CO complex and measuring the characteristic absorbance change. Rapid electron transfer is observed in the presence of testosterone, with the fast phase, representing 90% of the total absorbance change, having a rate of 14±2 s−1. Measurements of the first electron transfer were performed at various molar ratios of CPR/CYP3A4 in proteoliposomes; the rate was unaffected, consistent with a model in which first electron transfer takes place within a relatively stable CPR–CYP3A4 complex. Steady-state rates of NADPH oxidation and of 6β-hydroxytestosterone formation were also measured as a function of the molar ratio of CPR/CYP3A4 in the proteoliposomes. These rates increased with increasing CPR/CYP3A4 ratio, showing a hyperbolic dependency indicating a Kd (app) of ~0.4 μM. This suggests that the CPR–CYP3A4 complex can dissociate and reform between the first and second electron transfers.

The correct classifying and filtering of common libraries in Android applications can effectively improve the accuracy of repackaged application detection. However, the existing common library detection methods barely meet the requirement of large-scale app markets due to the low detection speed caused by their classification rules. Aiming at this problem, a structural similarity based common library detection method for Android is presented. The sub-packages with weak association to main package are extracted as common library candidates from the decompiled APK (Android application package) by using PDG (program dependency graph) method. With package structures and API calls being used as features, the classifying of those candidates is accomplished through coarse and fine-grained filtering. The experimental results by using real-world applications as dataset show that the detection speed of the present method is higher while the accuracy and false positive rate are both ensured. The method is proved to be efficient and precise.

Efforts to infer personality from digital footprints have focused on behavioral stability at the trait level without considering situational dependency. We repeated a classic study of intraindividual consistency with secondary data (five data sets) containing 28,692 days of smartphone usage from 780 people. Using per-app measures of pickup frequency and usage duration, we found that profiles of daily smartphone usage were significantly more consistent when taken from the same user than from different users ( d > 1.46). Random-forest models trained on 6 days of behavior identified each of the 780 users in test data with 35.8% accuracy for pickup frequency and 38.5% accuracy for duration frequency. This increased to 73.5% and 75.3%, respectively, when success was taken as the user appearing in the top 10 predictions (i.e., top 1%). Thus, situation-dependent stability in behavior is present in our digital lives, and its uniqueness provides both opportunities and risks to privacy.

Cruising for parking in city centers is a problem for many motorists and for communities that need to reduce emissions. A widespread provision of parking assistance to address this problem requires a scalable system to generate availability information. Existing approaches to estimate the availability of parking spaces use supervised learning and depend on ground-truth labeling processes involving sensors or manual data collection. This dependency constraints the widespread roll-out and operation of such systems as the ground-truth data collection for model training, monitoring and retraining is prohibitively expensive. We describe a parking availability prediction system for paid on-street parking zones that does not depend on costly ground-truth labeling. The new approach uses solely data from parking ticket bookings via a mobile phone app. Every parking transaction serves as an implicit signal for the availability of one parking spot shortly before the booking. The system leverages this weak supervision signal by applying algorithms and metrics for positive-unlabeled learning (PU-learning). This approach enables the deployment in diverse regions, as well as the scalable monitoring and retraining of models. We evaluate our framework on a public dataset from Seattle.

Background The use of health and fitness apps has been on the rise to monitor personal fitness and health parameters. However, recent research discovered that many users discontinue using these apps after only a few months. Gamification has been suggested as a technique to increase users’ interactions with apps. Nevertheless, it is still not clear how gamification mechanisms encourage continued use and inspire user self-management. Objective The main objective of this study was to articulate how gamification mechanisms in studies of designing and using health and fitness apps can contribute to the realization of information technology (IT) identity and positive behavioral outcomes. The broader goal was to shed light on how gamification mechanisms will translate into positive use behaviors in the context of mobile health apps. Methods Data were collected from 364 users of health and fitness apps through an online survey to empirically examine the proposed model. Results Based on identity theories, this study suggests the fully mediating role of IT identity to describe how gamification elements can lead to continued intention to use health and fitness apps, and increase users’ tendency for information sharing through the apps. The findings indicate that perceived gamification can increase users’ IT identity. In turn, a higher IT identity would encourage users to continue using the apps and share more personal health information with others through the apps. Conclusions The results of this study can have practical implications for app designers to use gamification elements to increase users’ dependency, relatedness, and emotional energy associated with health apps. Moreover, the findings can have theoretical contributions for researchers to help better articulate the process in which gamification can be translated into positive use behaviors.

Smartphones have evolved to become frequent companions to humans. The common problem shared by Android users of smartphones was, and continues to be, about saving their batteries and preventing the need to use any recharging tools. A significant number of studies have been performed in the general field of "saving energy in smartphones". During a state of global lockdown, the use of smartphone devices has skyrocketed, and many governments have implemented location-tracking applications for their citizens as means of ensuring that the imposed governmental restrictions are being adhered to. Since smartphones are battery-powered, the opportunity to conserve electricity and ensure that the handset does not have to be charged so much or that it does not die and impede location-tracking during this period of crisis is of vital significance, impacting not only the reliability of tracking, but also the usability of the mobile itself. While there are methods to reduce the battery’s drain from mobile app use, they are not fully utilized by users. Simultaneously, the following the manuscript demonstrates the growing prevalence of mobile applications in daily lives, as well as the disproportionally increasing phone functionality, which results in the creation of a dependency towards smartphone use and the need of energy to recharge and operate theses smartphones.

The Maxi-Cl phenotype accounts for the majority (app. 60%) of reports on the large-conductance maxi-anion channels (MACs) and has been detected in almost every type of cell, including placenta, endothelium, lymphocyte, cardiac myocyte, neuron, and glial cells, and in cells originating from humans to frogs. A unitary conductance of 300–400 pS, linear current-to-voltage relationship, relatively high anion-to-cation selectivity, bell-shaped voltage dependency, and sensitivity to extracellular gadolinium are biophysical and pharmacological hallmarks of the Maxi-Cl channel. Its identification as a complex with SLCO2A1 as a core pore-forming component and two auxiliary regulatory proteins, annexin A2 and S100A10 (p11), explains the activation mechanism as Tyr23 dephosphorylation at ANXA2 in parallel with calcium binding at S100A10. In the resting state, SLCO2A1 functions as a prostaglandin transporter whereas upon activation it turns to an anion channel. As an efficient pathway for chloride, Maxi-Cl is implicated in a number of physiologically and pathophysiologically important processes, such as cell volume regulation, fluid secretion, apoptosis, and charge transfer. Maxi-Cl is permeable for ATP and other small signaling molecules serving as an electrogenic pathway in cell-to-cell signal transduction. Mutations at the SLCO2A1 gene cause inherited bone and gut pathologies and malignancies, signifying the Maxi-Cl channel as a perspective pharmacological target.
