Abstract Although in vitro observations indicate that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate innate immune responses, their effect upon immune tolerance in vivo has not been defined. We have identified a novel gene of unknown function for which sequence variation is associated with autoimmune diabetes in the nonobese diabetic (NOD) mouse strain. Bioinformatics and expression analyses indicate this gene encodes a lncRNA that is induced by Toll-like receptor (TLR) activation, localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm of dendritic cells, and binds to proteins within these cellular compartments. Moreover, sequence variation for this gene is associated with altered TLR-mediated cytokine production. Hence this gene was named Apics for Attenuator of Pattern recognition receptor-Induced Cytokine Secretion. To further investigate the function of this lncRNA, we established a C57BL/6 (B6) knockout mouse strain for Apics and discovered that Apics-deficient dendritic cells exhibit enhanced TLR-mediated cytokine production. Apics-deficient B6 mice also exhibit increased susceptibility to autoimmunity in two disease models: experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis and experimental anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis. Our study suggests that lncRNAs, such as Apics, can serve as TLR-inducible repressors that regulate the magnitude of innate immune responses to reduce the risk for developing autoimmune disease.

El Ejército Nacional de Colombia requiere mejorar de forma continua su función logística para responder al constante crecimiento de sus operaciones y superar los desafíos que enfrenta en el cumplimiento de sus funciones constitucionales. Con la intención de contribuir en esta misión, el objetivo de este estudio es identificar conceptualmente las competencias de los gestores de la cadena de suministros de la Escuela Militar de Cadetes “General José María Córdova” (ESMIC). Como metodología se aplicaron técnicas de revisión y análisis documental para comparar el modelo internacional de competencias APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) con la formación que el programa de Administración Logística le brinda al estudiante como gestor de la cadena de suministros del Ejército Nacional de Colombia. El resultado del análisis evidencia que la ESMIC cumple con el 92,3 % del total de las competencias que propone el modelo APICS y se concluye que el porcentaje restante se puede incluir dentro de los saberes específicos que oferta el programa de Administración Logística de la institución.

This paper proposes a nonisolated high voltage gain DC-DC converter. The active–passive inductor cells (APICs) makes the converter topology expandable, and it also helps in providing a high gain quality at lower duty cycles. The proposed converter is suitable for high gain applications mainly necessitating microgrid as well as integration of renewable energy sources into the existing grid infrastructure. The merits of the converter can be attributed to the ability to achieve high gain and low current stress and switching losses on power electronic switches. The proposed converter is analyzed in both continuous and discontinuous modes of operation, the efficiency is calculated and simulation results substantiate the operation of the converter.

Abstract. Reliable data on circumsolar radiation, which is caused by scattering of sun light by cloud or aerosol particles, is becoming more and more important for the resource assessment and design of concentrating solar technologies (CSTs). However, measuring circumsolar radiation is demanding and only very limited data sets are available. As a step to bridge this gap, we have developed a method to determine circumsolar radiation from cirrus cloud properties retrieved by the geostationary satellites of the Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) family. The method takes output from the COCS algorithm to generate a cirrus mask from MSG data, then uses the retrieval algorithm APICS to obtain the optical thickness and the effective radius of the detected cirrus, which in turn are used to determine the circumsolar radiation from a pre-calculated lookup table. The lookup table was generated from extensive calculations using a specifically adjusted version of the Monte Carlo radiative transfer model MYSTIC and by developing a fast yet precise parameterization. APICS was also improved such that it determines the surface albedo, which is needed for the cloud property retrieval, in a self-consistent way instead of using external data. Furthermore it was extended to consider new ice particle shapes to allow for an uncertainty analysis concerning this parameter. We found that the nescience of the ice particle shape leads to an uncertainty of up to 50%. A validation with ground based measurements of circumsolar radiation show good agreement with the new "Baum v3.5" ice particle shape parameterization. For the circumsolar ratio (CSR) the validation yields a mean absolute deviation (MAD) of 0.10, a bias of 11% and a Spearman rank correlation rrank, CSR of 0.54. If measurements with sub-scale cumulus clouds within the relevant satellite pixels are manually excluded, the results improve to MAD = 0.07, bias = −3% and rrank, CSR = 0.71.

Abstract. Validation of cloud properties retrieved from passive spaceborne imagers is essential for cloud and climate applications but complicated due to the large differences in scale and observation geometry between the satellite footprint and the independent ground based or airborne observations. Here we illustrate and demonstrate an alternative approach: starting from the output of the COSMO-EU weather model of the German Weather Service realistic three-dimensional cloud structures at a spatial scale of 2.33 km are produced by statistical downscaling and microphysical properties are associated to them. The resulting data sets are used as input to the one-dimensional radiative transfer model libRadtran to simulate radiance observations for all eleven low resolution channels of MET-8/SEVIRI. At this point, both cloud properties and satellite radiances are known such that cloud property retrieval results can be tested and tuned against the objective input "truth". As an example, we validate a cloud property retrieval of the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of DLR and that of EUMETSAT's Climate Monitoring Science Application Facility CMSAF. Cloud detection and cloud phase assignment perform well. By both retrievals 88% of the pixels are correctly classified as clear or cloudy. The DLR algorithm assigns the correct thermodynamic phase to 95% of the cloudy pixels and the CMSAF retrieval to 84%. Cloud top temperature is slightly overestimated by the DLR code (+3.1 K mean difference with a standard deviation of 10.6 K) and to a very low extent by the CMSAF code (−0.12 K with a standard deviation of 7.6 K). Both retrievals account reasonably well for the distribution of optical thickness for both water and ice clouds, with a tendency to underestimation. Cloud effective radii are most difficult to evaluate but the APICS algorithm shows that realistic histograms of occurrences can be derived (CMSAF was not evaluated in this context). Cloud water path, which is a combination of the last two quantities, is slightly underestimated by APICS, while CMSAF shows a larger scattering.

Abstract This paper reviews a number of specific features typical of analytic languages, in an attempt to investigate whether Creole languages can indeed be grouped, at least structurally, with other languages of the analytic (or isolating) type. Based on Sybesma et al. (forthcoming), a study of the nature of analyticity, we select eight features which constitute rather obvious structural parallels between two unrelated groups, namely Sinitic and Kwa. In terms of Creole languages, these eight features can be also clearly located within the APiCS (Michaelis et al. 2013). Contrary to works like Bakker et al. (2011) which argue for the existence of a “Creole Prototype”, our results show that Creole languages do not cluster with each other against other non-Creole languages. Instead, various Creoles clearly owe their grammatical profile to the languages that dominate the typological environment in which they are formed.

Furthermore, it was extended to consider new ice particle shapes to allow for an uncertainty analysis concerning this parameter. We found that the nescience of the ice particle shape leads to an uncertainty of up to 50%. A validation with 1 yr of ground-based measurements shows, however, that the frequency distribution of the circumsolar radiation can be well characterized with typical ice particle shape mixtures, which feature either smooth or severely roughened particle surfaces. However, when comparing instantaneous values, timing and amplitude errors become evident. For the circumsolar ratio (CSR) this is reflected in a mean absolute deviation (MAD) of 0.11 for both employed particle shape mixtures, and a bias of 4 and 11%, for the mixture with smooth and roughend particles, respectively. If measurements with sub-scale cumulus clouds within the relevant satellite pixels are manually excluded, the instantaneous agreement between satellite and ground measurements improves. For a 2-monthly time series, for which a manual screening of all-sky images was performed, MAD values of 0.08 and 0.07 were obtained for the two employed ice particle mixtures, respectively.

Seychelles Creole (SC) is one of the few creoles with a grammaticalized reciprocity marker. The grammaticalized use of kanmarad (< Fr. camarade ‘comrade, companion’) is mentioned in the grammars of SC (Bollée 1977; Corne 1977; Choppy 2009) but its evolution and distribution in modern SC have never been analyzed. This contribution first presents present-day data from spoken and written corpora of SC and compares them to data published in the Atlas of Pidgin and Creole Language Structures, APiCS (Michaelis & al. 2013). Appealing to several grammaticalization mechanisms discussed in the literature, it then traces back the grammaticalization process of kanmarad, a process that is not very advanced in the closely related Mauritian Creole (MC). In accordance with Michaelis & Haspelmath (2020), the evolution of kanmarad in SC can be considered to be an instance of accelerated functionalization which the authors consider to be typical of creole languages. Ultimately, the study’s findings are discussed in light of two complementary hypotheses that try to explain the acceleration of functionalization: the Extra-Transparency Hypothesis (Haspelmath & Michaelis 2017) and the Distinction during Codification Hypothesis which I suggest for SC. Both are considered to be possible factors favoring an ordinary language-internal grammaticalization process.

This document gives a simplified method of calculating gear micropitting. The method has been developed by EUROCOPTER. The objective was to provide a model that took into consideration the maximum number of parameters in order to model the different physical phenomena, particularly: an oil-film thickness calculation taking the influence of pressure into consideration a simplified modellization of roughness an estimation of the plastification effect on the roughness overpressure at the contact surface taking into account the combined effects of roughness and oil-film thickness. The elaborated model is presented in an Excel file form. The application program is called APICS (approche du pitting par calculs simplifiés). In order to validate this model, this program has been applied to: An epicyclic gear train of a helicopter. Tests on discs as part of the ASETT European program. Discs are in hardened M50NiL Duplex (surface treatment: carburized and nitrided). Different kinds of surface finishing were proposed. The reference case of discs in 16NCD13 without thermochemical treatment has been also treated. FZG gear benchtests, also as part of the ASETT program. Gears have been manufactured in hardened M50NiL Duplex, with different kinds of surface finishing proposed. The results of the calculations express quite exactly the experimental facts observed on discs and gears for a wide range of studied cases, covering different materials, different kinds of case hardening and different kinds of surface finishing.

The purpose of this paper is to raise the issue of urgency of supply chain management research in terms of developmental issues, trends and challenges, as well as research objects and methologies in the any industry, business sector, and public sector. This study is an exploratory research with the aim of finding trends, developments, and challenges of current and potential supply chain management research. Data were collected from previous studies and written interviews from supply chain management experts where domiciled in several institutions in Bandung City. The findings of this study show expert opinion on the issues of supply chain management research in terms of developments, trends, and challenges, as well as the urgency of supply chain research. While, the results of the literature review from previous study, the research objects and methodologies of supply chain management research categorized into several categories that need to be concentrated for further research. Research suggestions are aimed specifically at academic, private and public sector practitioners to update and upgrade capacity, information, and knowledge about the development of supply chain management study in a sustainable manner. This paper also suggests to establish a community of supply chain management which consist of academicians, practitioners, and government in Bandung City to share informations and experiences about research and issues related to supply chain management, such as Supply Chain Indonesia (SCI) and American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS). In this paper, a far reaching report on Supply Chain Management (SCM) is displayed. SCM is the administration of a system of interconnected organizations associated with the arrangement of item and administration bundles required by the end clients in a store network. Production network administration traverses all development and capacity of crude materials, work-in-process stock, and completed merchandise from purpose of cause to purpose of utilization. Budgetary Supply Chain Management at Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) is displayed. Another definition is given by the APICS Dictionary when it characterizes SCM as the &quot;structure, arranging, execution, control, and observing of inventory network exercises with the goal of making net esteem, constructing an aggressive foundation, utilizing overall coordination, synchronizing supply with interest and estimating execution all around.&quot; According to late investigations a gigantic measure of working capital is tied up in the Supply Chain. Process-arranged exercises in the Supply Chain, for example, capability, receipt and guarantee administration and back situated exercises, for example, administration of working capital, valorization and capital allocation and request discharge working capital packaged in the Supply Chain. The expanded Trend-to-Trend (T2T) cross-calibration technique has the potential to calibrate two sensors in much less time and provides trends on a daily assessment basis. The trend obtained from the expanded technique aids in evaluating the differences between satellite sensors. Therefore, this technique was validated with several trusted cross-calibration techniques to evaluate its accuracy. Initially, the expanded T2T technique was validated with three independent RadCaTS RRV, DIMITRI-PICS, and APICS models, and results show a 1% average difference with other models over all bands. Further, this technique was validated with other SDSU techniques to calibrate the newly launched satellite Landsat 9 with 8, demonstrating good agreement in all bands within 0.5%. This technique was also validated for Terra MODIS and ETM+, showing consistency within 1% for all bands compared to four PICS sites. Additionally, the T2T technique was applied to a global scale using EPICS Global sites. The expanded T2T cross-calibration gain result obtained for Landsat 8 versus Landsat 7/8, Sentinel 2A/2B, and Terra/Aqua MODIS presented that the difference between these pairs was within 0.5–1% for most of the spectral bands. Total uncertainty obtained for these pairs of sensors using Monte Carlo Simulation varies from 2.5–4% for all bands except for SWIR2 bands, which vary up to 5%. The difference between EPICS Global and EPICS North Africa was calculated using the ratio of trend gain; the difference among them was within 0.5–1% difference on average for all the sensors and bands within a 0.5% uncertainty level difference.

IntroductionAs short-term mortality declines for critically ill patients, a growing number of survivors face long-term physical, cognitive and/or mental health impairments. After hospital discharge, many critical illness survivors require an in-depth plan to address their healthcare needs. Early after hospital discharge, numerous survivors experience inadequate care or a mismatch between their healthcare needs and what is provided. Many patients are readmitted to the hospital, have substantial healthcare resource use and experience long-lasting morbidity. The objective of this study is to investigate the gap in healthcare needs occurring immediately after hospital discharge and its association with hospital readmissions or death for survivors of acute respiratory failure (ARF).Methods and analysisIn this multicentre prospective cohort study, we will enrol 200 survivors of ARF in the intensive care unit (ICU) who are discharged directly home from their acute care hospital stay. Unmet healthcare needs, the primary exposure of interest, will be evaluated as soon as possible within 1 to 4 weeks after hospital discharge, via a standardised telephone assessment. The primary outcome, death or hospital readmission, will be measured at 3 months after discharge. Secondary outcomes (eg, quality of life, cognitive impairment, depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder) will be measured as part of 3-month and 6-month telephone-based follow-up assessments. Apios chendezhaoana, a new combination derived from Sinolegumenea chendezhaoana, is recognized by both morphological and molecular evidence. It is a new member within Apios, and it is also an endemic and endangered species from East and South China. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that it could be sister to A. fortunei, but morphologically it differs from all its allies by its broad triangular leaflets with caudate apices, white corolla, pink markings on the lower part of the keel, and dilated style with tufted hairs beneath the stigma. We provide a detailed description, photographs, illustrations, and distribution map. We also estimate its conservation status according to IUCN criteria. A key to Apios is also provided, together with a brief revision.

Purpose The field of supply chain management (SCM) evolves dramatically due to factors of globalization, innovation, sustainability, and technology. These changes raise challenges not only to higher education institutions, but also to students, employing organizations, and third parties like SCM-related professional bodies. To understand the challenge, the purpose of this paper is to examine the gap between demand and supply of SCM-related knowledge areas, answer-related design questions, and make recommendations to close the gaps. Design/methodology/approach To compare the demand and supply of SCM-related knowledge areas, demand data is collected from a professional career website and supply data is gathered from operations management (OM) and SCM course syllabi from AACSB-accredited business schools in the USA. Cluster analysis identifies how supply and demand are matched on the data collected. Findings First, gaps exist between SCM talent requirements from industry and the knowledge/skill training by US business schools. This paper identifies matching, under-supplying, and over-supplying knowledge areas. Under-supply in emerging areas such as SCM information technology and certain logistics management topics are found. Some traditional OM topics are over-supplied due to out-of-date industry applications and should be revised to reflect the field’s transition from an OM to SCM view. Last, this paper makes recommendations to different stakeholders in this matching supply with demand process. Originality/value This study contributes to the literature in two ways. First, it provides an up-to-date understanding on demand and supply of SCM talent in USA. Second, it provides insights and recommendations not only to educators on curriculum design, but also to potential candidates interested in SCM careers, to companies’ job recruiters, and to professional organizations (such as APICS and Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) to reduce the gaps between demand and supply.

This study endeavors to evaluate the effectiveness of green distribution and green supply chain practices at PT Bio Farma (Persero) in relation to polio vaccine products. The ultimate objective is to establish and attain future green distribution targets. The research methodology utilizes the Green Supply Chain Operations Reference (Green SCOR) model and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to analyze the production and distribution data of polio vaccine (OPV) and inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) products from January to December 2023. The performance values for each key component of Green Distribution and Green Supply Chain are as follows: Plan = 22.9, Source = 16.60, Make = 21.53, Deliver = 11.24, and Return = 7.08. The total performance value for Green Distribution and Green Supply Chain is 79.41. According to APICS standards, the performance of Green Distribution and Green Supply Chain is rated as “Good”. Future performance improvements will focus on supply chain and collaborative planning, establishing long-term partnerships with suppliers and customers, optimizing environmentally friendly transportation, and developing the enterprise information system. Our study proposes that the distribution and logistics managers at PT Bio Farma should persistently monitor and assess their operations to enhance the efficiency of their green distribution and green supply chains. By doing so, they can ensure the successful attainment of performance objectives for disseminating the polio vaccine in Indonesia. This research presents a significant advancement by incorporating the Green SCOR framework into the specific domain of polio vaccines, emphasizing sustainability and environmental efficiency. This approach paves the way for new avenues of investigation in green supply chain research and offers a novel viewpoint on how the pharmaceutical industry, specifically vaccine distribution, can utilize sustainable practices to enhance their operations while mitigating environmental ramifications.

Recently, RESTful APIs are widely utilized in a variety of web applications; developers utilize Restful APIs as a blacked-out component in micro-services. Black box testing for Restful APIs is essential as neither of the API’s source code nor its compiled binary is always available for public access. A handful number of research studies were conducted for the automatic generation of test suite for RESTful APIs based on black box testing. However, to our knowledge, none of them considered the test coverage criteria or the test suite optimization. This paper proposed adapting the Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) swarm intelligence algorithm for the automatic generation of test suites for Restful APIs based on Open API Specification (OAS); whilst also maximizing the API test coverage (path, operation, parameter, input value and status code). Experiments were conducted on six APIs that differ from each other in the number of routes, operation types, input values, and how well the API is documented. The experiments showed that the ABC algorithm can generate test suites that achieve high coverage criteria.

Background: Endodontic Regenerative Procedures, especially pulp revascularization therapy, have become a real option for the treatment for immature permanent teeth with open apices. This sort of approach has saved many teeth that otherwise would have been extracted. The technique is simple and effective, and can be accomplished by any odontologist. Objective: This article aimed to make a literature review to give support for a case report of an Endodontic Regenerative Procedure of a twelve-year-old male patient with immature open apice of tooth 21. Methodology: Articles were researched concerning pulp revascularization to reach root end formation. On line searches were accomplished, whose database include BVS/BIREME, Web of Science, PUBMED Central, Science Direct, Higher Level Personnel Improvement Coordinator (CAPES), The Cochrane Library, and PROSPERO). Results: the articles researched showed that Endodontic Regenerative Procedures are efficient in stimulating root end formation. The case report described matched the results offered by the articles, showing an immature open apice tooth that had its root end completely formed after pulp revascularization therapy. Conclusion: Pulp revascularization therapy is an efficient and practical treatment for immature teeth with open apices.

Nowadays, not only purity profile but also impurity profile has become mandatory according to the various regulatory authorities. In the pharmaceutical world, an impurity is considered as an inorganic or organic material, or residual solvents other than the drug substances, or ingredients, arising out of synthesis or unwanted chemicals that remains with APIs. Impurity profiling includes identification, structure elucidation and quantitative determination of impurities and degradation products in bulk drug materials and pharmaceutical formulation. The control of impurities in Formulated products and API’s were regulated by various regulatory authorities like ICH, USFDA, Canadian Drug, and Health Agency. Impurity profiling is very important in the modern pharmaceutical analysis due to the fact that unidentified, potentially toxic impurities are hazardous to health and in order to increase the safety of drug therapy, impurities should be identified and determined by the selective method. Nowadays, it is a mandatory requirement in various pharmacopeias to know the impurities present in APIs and finished drug products. Thus, impurity profiling can act as a Quality Control tool. It can provide crucial data regarding the toxicity, safety, various limits of detection and limits of quantitation of several organic and inorganic impurities, usually accompany with APIs and finished products. There is a strong requirement to have unique specifications/standards with regard to impurities.

Micro- and nano-carrier formulations have been developed as drug delivery systems for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) that suffer from poor physico-chemical, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic properties. Encapsulating the APIs in such systems can help improve their stability by protecting them from harsh conditions such as light, oxygen, temperature, pH, enzymes, and others. Consequently, the API’s dissolution rate and bioavailability are tremendously improved. Conventional techniques used in the production of these drug carrier formulations have several drawbacks, including thermal and chemical stability of the APIs, excessive use of organic solvents, high residual solvent levels, difficult particle size control and distributions, drug loading-related challenges, and time and energy consumption. This review illustrates how supercritical fluid (SCF) technologies can be superior in controlling the morphology of API particles and in the production of drug carriers due to SCF’s non-toxic, inert, economical, and environmentally friendly properties. The SCF’s advantages, benefits, and various preparation methods are discussed. Drug carrier formulations discussed in this review include microparticles, nanoparticles, polymeric membranes, aerogels, microporous foams, solid lipid nanoparticles, and liposomes.

In Minas Gerais, green propolis is produced from the collection of resinous substance found in shoot apices of Baccharis dracunculifolia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the biological parameters associated with the interaction Apis mellifera x Baccharis dracunculifolia, to elucidate the supply of resin for green propolis production in Minas Gerais. We selected male and female individuals of two populations of Baccharis dracunculifolia located on São Judas Tadeu Farm - FSJT, in the municipality of Betim, MG and the Experimental Garden of the Ezequiel Dias Foundation - HORTO, located in an urban area in Belo Horizonte, MG. We made weekly observations, from June 2007 to June 2008, and evaluated in both populations: richness and abundance of insect visitors; resin collecting visits of Apis mellifera; presence of Baccharopelma dracunculifoliae galls; growth of individuals and phenological phases. Statistical analyses were made using R software. The rainy season showed the highest number of visitors. A. mellifera collected resin in shoot apices of Baccharis dracunculifolia from August to April, only in the FSJT population, where galls of B. dracunculifoliae were also present. Ovoposition of gall inductor on host plants occurs during the rainy season, when there is a peak of visitants and resin collecting visits of honeybees. This fact stimulates plant defense strategies against parasitoids and predators, which includes the production of several secondary metabolites, and ultimately reduces competition for food by inhibiting the attack of other phytophagous insects, not adapted to the chemical environment of plant tissues. Green propolis production in Minas Gerais is related to the abundant supply of resin by Baccharis dracunculifolia, when they are parasitised by B. dracunculifoliae galls. They induce plant production of defense exudates, which attract Apis mellifera bees to collect resin and consequently favour the production of green propolis.

With the ever-increasing prosperity of web Application Programming Interface (API) sharing platforms, it is becoming an economic and efficient way for software developers to design their interested mashups through web API re-use. Generally, a software developer can browse, evaluate, and select his or her preferred web APIs from the API's sharing platforms to create various mashups with rich functionality. The big volume of candidate APIs places a heavy burden on software developers’ API selection decisions. This, in turn, calls for the support of intelligent API recommender systems. However, existing API recommender systems often face two challenges. First, they focus more on the functional accuracy of APIs while neglecting the APIs’ actual compatibility. This then creates incompatible mashups. Second, they often require software developers to input a set of keywords that can accurately describe the expected functions of the mashup to be developed. This second challenge tests partial developers who have little background knowledge in the fields. To tackle the above-mentioned challenges, in this article we propose a compatibility-aware and text description-driven web API recommendation approach (named WAR text ). WAR text guarantees the compatibility among the recommended APIs by utilizing the APIs’ composition records produced by historical mashup creations. Besides, WAR text entitles a software developer to type a simple text document that describes the expected mashup functions as input. Then through textual description mining, WAR text can precisely capture the developers’ functional requirements and then return a set of APIs with the highest compatibility. Finally, through a real-world mashup dataset ProgrammableWeb, we validate the feasibility of our novel approach.

Creating modern software inevitably requires using application programming interfaces (APIs). While software developers can sometimes use APIs by simply copying and pasting code examples, a lack of robust knowledge of how an API works can lead to defects, complicate software maintenance, and limit what someone can express with an API. Prior work has uncovered the many ways that API documentation fails to be helpful, though rarely describes precisely why. We present a theory of robust API knowledge that attempts to explain why, arguing that effective understanding and use of APIs depends on three components of knowledge: (1) the domain concepts the API models along with terminology, (2) the usage patterns of APIs along with rationale, and (3) facts about an API’s execution to support reasoning about its runtime behavior. We derive five hypotheses from this theory and present a study to test them. Our study investigated the effect of having access to these components of knowledge, finding that while learners requested these three components of knowledge when they were not available, whether the knowledge helped the learner use or understand the API depended on the tasks and likely the relevance and quality of the specific information provided. The theory and our evidence in support of its claims have implications for what content API documentation, tutorials, and instruction should contain and the importance of giving the right information at the right time, as well as what information API tools should compute, and even how APIs should be designed. Future work is necessary to both further test and refine the theory, as well as exploit its ideas for better instructional design.

In this paper, we have proposed and implemented a Hybrid Integration Model (HIM) in Industry 4.0 for Lean Management. This research was implemented in an Airline Travel Company (ATC) in which an In-house ERP system is real-time-integrated (In-bound) with Global Distribution System (GDS) through API’s i-e, soap &rest-based web services for online ticketing as well other Miscellaneous facilities i-e (Auto SMS Email) using Horizontal Integration Model in Industry 4.0 and also integrated (Outbound) with 3rd party General Ledger (GL) system. Integrating an ERP system with GL is an automated business process that requires implementing API’s and developing automatic routines to move the data between ERP & GL Systems as per user requirements. Our proposed model is fully automated where no human intervention is involved while transferring data from ERP to GL and following all standards recommended by industry 4.0 for Lean Management.

Most of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) are typically formulated and administered to patients in oral solid dosage forms due to ease of administration, patient compliance and cost effectiveness. Poor water solubility, low permeability and low bioavailability of APIs are major hurdles in development of oral solid dosage forms. In recent years, cocrystal development has evolved as a feasible approach for enhancing the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs. Crystal engineering strategies have been asserted to enhance the likelihood of discovering new solid forms of an API. A pharmaceutical cocrystal is made up of two basic components, an API and a harmless material known as a coformer in stoichiometric ratio. Cocrystallization of an API with a pharmaceutically acceptable coformer can improve the physical characteristics of the API, such as solubility, hygroscopicity, and compaction behavior, without affecting the API's pharmacological efficacy. This review article offers a comprehensive overview of pharmaceutical cocrystals, their physiochemical characteristics, and methods of preparation, with an emphasis on cocrystal screening and cocrystal characterization. The review also included recent FDA and EMA guidance on pharmaceutical cocrystals as well as an outline of multidrug cocrystals. Ageism in mass media is of great concern with older individuals often being stereotyped or simply rendered invisible. Yet research is largely silent on ageism in English language teaching (ELT) materials. Given the power of English education, the impact of visual media, and the tendency for English teaching materials to include visual depictions of people, such research is warranted. In response, a content analysis of 7350 visuals of people from Japanese ELT resources was conducted in the study described here. The goal was to understand four issues. First, how visible were the elderly overall? Second, given intergenerational friction as one outgrowth of ageism, did these materials normalize intergenerational interactions including the elderly? Third, to what extent did these materials exhibit ageism of women since ‘gendered ageism’ is an especially important issue? Fourth, to what extent did these materials either reproduce or subvert stereotypes of the elderly? Findings indicated that the amount of representation was biased against the elderly, that intergenerational interactions involving the elderly were scant, and that older women were especially underrepresented. While some of the elderly depictions were stereotypical, others did portray elderly people positively, as socially-involved and vigorous. These findings demonstrate the need for greater sensitivity to an ageist hidden curriculum in ELT.

This descriptive quantitative study discusses the instructors’ implementation of the flexible learning guidelines during the pandemic as perceived in their self-assessment results. Assessing how the instructors dealt with the flexible learning modality will lead to better curricular planning and implementation in higher education in the new normal. Using a survey rating scale and checklist, the respondents rated their own implementation of the flexible guidelines. A self-assessment process can facilitate curricular and instructional improvements on the part of the instructor, upgrading the professional stance of these teachers and achieving the standard guidelines set along the way. Results showed that the instructors are Always implementing the flexible learning guidelines specifically on the general guidelines, requirements and qualifications for flexible learning, implementing policies and procedures on facilitating online teaching, social-emotional learning, rules and discipline, teacher organization and communication, assessment, support services, and adherence to data privacy. Yet, the instructors had a lower rating on assessment which means a need for support on online assessment. Also, the instructors expressed their concerns on the LMS, virtual synchronous platform, access and connectivity, students’ concerns, and general concerns on teachers’ coursework and online learning. It is recommended to conduct impact studies on flexible learning and to provide further professional development sessions to enrich the curriculum and instruction needs of instructors.

Furthermore, the paper defines what qualifies as innovations in program evaluation and the criteria that should be met to be considered innovative. The article ends with a detailed discussion on some of the program evaluation innovations and how to apply program evaluation innovations.

Parents are part of the school community. However, schools have neglected to tap parents’ opinions and perceptions of new programs for implementation (Ornstein & Hunkins, 2009). Upon this background, Dodd (1988) conducted her research to gain a better understanding of the curriculum and practices parents favored, including their underlying beliefs about teaching and learning high school English. This study replicated Dodd’s (1998) research to explore the understanding of educational practices that Filipino parents prefer in the light of curriculum innovations, particularly the K to 12 Junior High School English subject. Key informant interview (KII) was used as the main data-gathering technique following Dodd’s (1988) interview protocol. The KII information was subjected to thematic analysis to gather the major ideas that are essential in answering the research questions. The findings revealed that parents’ beliefs are based on their own and their children’s experiences and their children’s well-being. Thus, their approval of the curriculum and educational practices are largely dependent on how these will affect and benefit their children based on their understanding of policies and practices. They further place a significant value on teachers’ role in the implementation of the curriculum as facilitators of learning and academic leaders who could help their children maximize their potential. Parents can also help identify problems concerning curriculum implementation, teachers’ roles and duties, teacher-parent and teacher-student relationships, and school environment. In this regard, home-school partnerships can be strengthened to gain parents’ support and obtain valuable insights on how curriculum and educational practices affect their children. Therefore, cultivating parent involvement is ultimately beneficial for schools as this provides essential feedback on the introduction and implementation of curricular reforms and the improvement of practices.

The stability of a country’s economy is the aspiration of politicians as opposed to equipping individuals with survival skills to live in a sustainable world as human beings capable of solving problems. What are the essential ingredients for our future generation? The curriculum should produce individuals who can solve problems in the future regardless of the circumstances or a generation equipped with knowledge for future jobs, which are non-existent now. The targeted product should be a human being who is able to balance the demands of modernization through knowledge of artificial intelligence or a holistic individual who can balance mind and matter to thrive in a sustainable world for the common good of our planet and its citizens. This paper attempts to study the right ingredients needed for a future curriculum design by examining what is lacking now and recommending a design suited for sustainable economic and ecological living.

Student engagement is an important contributor to academic success. In the learning arrangement in a pre-school in Quezon city, students attended the online class and answered workbooks and worksheets as offline learning activities. These paper-and-pen activities did not motivate the students as they delayed doing the task. The present study aimed at incorporating play-based activities to increase the pre-school students' engagement in their offline learning activities. The study was conducted among 20 preschool students with the help of the parents in implementing the play-based offline activities. Responses regarding students’ engagement were documented using the student engagement tool that parents accomplished every after offline activity, reflections notes, and survey questionnaires. A focus group discussion was also organized at the end of the study. The findings in this study show that the use of offline play-based activities improved student engagement in three dimensions - cognitive, emotion, and behavior. Students who previously expressed disinterest towards offline activities demonstrated self-motivation, conceptual understanding, engagement in physical activities, and have nurtured positive relationships among the students, their parents, and their siblings throughout the study. Considering the parents’ feedback, the researchers further modified the design of the instructional activities to address prior poor student engagement by incorporating music and movement, balancing play and work in the activities, and by sending the guides earlier for the convenience of the parents. It is recommended that future research delve into the difference in engagement among different class hours, given that more students in the late morning and early afternoon sessions showed poorer engagement in offline paper-and-pencil activities prior to the intervention being made. Future research can also focus on the influence of fathers on their child’s engagement, implementation of play-based activities in public schools adopting the modular approach, and parent-teacher relationship in managing and handling students' mental wellness.

Uplifting the quality of education, the Department of Education pushed for the full implementation of the Enhanced Basic Education Program. The purpose of this study is to examine the status of implementation of the Junior High School Mathematics Curriculum in Ilocos Sur division during the school year 2017-2018. A questionnaire was used to gather the data from selected secondary schools in Ilocos Sur division. The data gathered were treated using mean, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The overall rating of the status of the implementation of the Junior High School Mathematics Curriculum was perceived high. However, it was noted that some students were found weak in some content areas. Furthermore, the result revealed that the respondents considered the teachers’ teaching methodologies and strategies significantly influenced the status of implementation of the Junior High School Mathematics Curriculum. Nevertheless, students found satisfactory in their levels of critical thinking and problem solving skills as they were not significantly influenced by the teachers’ teaching methodologies and strategies. The findings of this study must be the basis of the school administrators and teachers to improve the levels of performances of the students.

As of January 26, 2021, around 18.8 percent of confirmed COVID-19 patients in the Republic of Korea were in their 50’s and only 3.75% were children below 10 years old. This figure may just be a drop in the bucket, yet the profound effects of this global pandemic on young children’s development cannot be overlooked. COVID-19 has not yet been considered a “children’s disease” because of very few confirmed cases and for those who have contracted it, the fatality rate has been very low. Relying on an aggressive trace-test-and-quarantine program, South Korea has so far weathered this crisis without major lockdowns. It has been hailed by various countries for “flattening the curve” in a short period of time. This paper investigates how the education sector in South Korea responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. It documents the educational experiences in making the Nuri Curriculum more relevant and effective as significant educational adjustments were put into action to deal with the new policies related to South Korea’s COVID-19 response. A description of the innovative alternative practices in terms of the physical and temporal environments as well as curricular strategies implemented in Kindergarten schools and child care centers are elaborated in this paper. This is supplemented with feedback gathered from interviews with early childhood educators, which reveal both the difficulties and psychological rewards that they have experienced.

The paradigm shift to evidence-based medical education was introduced many years back, driven mainly by the voluminous amount of medical literature available to both the medical student and practitioner as well. In essence, it provided a process for critically appraising available information for the purpose of obtaining the “best available evidence.” Presently, as we continue to teach evidence-based medicine (EBM), we find it most useful to evaluate its effectiveness by devising ways to evaluate the performance not only of the students but, of medical practitioners and teachers of EBM as well. Performance evaluation of students involve evaluating the ability to ask answerable questions, perform a systematic search of literature, critically appraise the evidence and, integrate evidence and patient’s values. A step further is to ask whether what we have learned has been translated into better clinical outcomes. Finally, we evaluate the teaching of EBM. This would necessitate much introspection as teachers ask themselves whether they have taught EBM effectively. Several evaluation instruments have already been developed over the years, but studies have shown that better tools still need to be developed.

In a test-driven instructional development such as that in Indonesia, teachers spend most of his time, energy, and thoughts to strive for his students’ excellent performance in the final test. This is due to the indicator used to judge the success of a school. One particular teacher of English is, however, different. I have collected data on his class and conducted an in-depth interview with him. The results of data analysis revealed that the teacher is creative and innovative as he strives to help his students of different levels and types of abilities to make as high achievements as they can. In other words, he strives to enable their students to reach their full potential development. He is also very productive, with more than 180 books as his works and creative and innovative in his teaching, enabling his students to speak English fluently in communicative situations evidenced in their performance in the final test of speaking witnessed by the students’ parents. This particular teacher is a rare asset in the development of English language teaching. More importantly, he confessed that his strong beliefs in students have driven him to do his best to facilitate his students’ learning. This is in line with the findings of numerous research studies. This implies the importance of developing and strengthening the teachers’ beliefs through redesigning the English language teacher education curriculum, both pre-service and in-service.

To date, the vast majority of developmental programs have had to be satisfied with assessing students’ learning within the confines of their programs. Although there were opportunities for indirect assessments, with graduate surveys or surveys of supervisors/employers, response rates tended to be low. Even when responses were received, they often came from people with little expertise in learning, making it difficult for educators to translate the feedback into actionable program improvements. The United States (US) Air Force has, however, decided to attempt what other learning institutions have not – arguably cannot. It is attempting to leverage its competency-based approach to performance assessment to enhance program evaluation. Because of the closed nature of this learning environment, where students graduate from US Air Force programs and go on to work in US Air Force jobs, there is a unique opportunity to assess learning as it is actually being applied in the workplace. Leveraging a competency-based force-development paradigm, the US Air Force has constructed a “foundational competencies” model for common knowledge, skills and abilities, complemented by occupational competencies specific to individual jobs, positions and specialties. These competencies are mapped to performance descriptions that determine levels of mastery. These performance descriptions are, in turn, mapped to rubrics that guide performance evaluations. Shortcomings in performance can be identified, quantified, and fed back to the developmental program for potential program modification or, for special updates to the force, to ensure Airmen perform their duties properly and achieve desired levels of mastery. This approach has been approved but is not yet fully implemented. The new Foundational Competencies Model has been developed and validated through a criterion-sampling methodology. In addition, many technical careers have created “occupational competencies” models delineated the specific knowledge, skills and abilities specific to their jobs. The full range of supporting assessment mechanisms, however, are still in the process of being designed and dispatched to facilitate ease of use and centralize data-gathering. This article overviews the US Air Force’s approach and its progress to date.

This paper provides a report on a curriculum design procedure developed by the authors from an understanding of the prescriptions of Outcome-Based Education, particularly as discussed by William Spady (1994). The procedure was applied to the revision of an undergraduate architecture program in the Philippines. The procedure is described and insights on the OBE procedure that arose from faculty discussions during its implementation were identified. The insights centered on the quality of appropriateness of OBE to an architecture curriculum and to the curricula of arts-based disciplines in general.

This paper presents proposed changes in the pre-service teacher education program for the development of skills for indigenization of elementary school science. The proposal emphasizes the need for the development of more specific competence for teaching science to indigenous people or diverse culture. There should be conscious effort to develop awareness of one’s attitude towards ethnocultural groups in the foundation courses (sociology, philosophy and psychology). Moreover, there’s also a need to develop skills in designing instruction, developing instructional materials using local materials to make science teaching relevant to the indigenous people and learners of diverse culture. It is also important that field experience in schools with indigenous people and diverse culture be integrated in the program.

Aim. To analyze and systematize approaches to scaling and transferring active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) from the laboratory to industrial production in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in the pharmaceutical industry in Ukraine and worldwide; to determine the relevance of developing a single standardized algorithm of actions for approaches to scaling and transferring substances. Materials and methods. During the research, various methods, including a systemic approach, comparison, analogy and generalization of information about scaling and transferring APIs were used. Methods of scientific analysis were used to analyze recent publications in scientific and practical journals. Tabular and schematic tools for visual presentation of the data obtained were also applied. Results. Based on the analysis and research results, the largest global suppliers of synthetic APIs were identified, and the state of the domestic market for synthetic APIs was analyzed. The leading producer of substances of synthetic origin in Ukraine was determined. The analysis of literature, scientific data, and regulatory acts and recommendations on the requirements for transferring (implementing) new APIs to production highlighted: groups of substances by origin; GMP requirements for API production, according to their method of obtaining and stage; the main stages of the API’s life cycle, as well as the fundamental scheme of technology transfer from the laboratory development to industrial production. Approaches to the development and implementation of new products in production, as reflected in approved international documents, such as the Guideline on Good Manufacturing Practices for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, WHO TRS Technical Report, Annex 7, and ICH Q11, were analyzed and developed. It was determined that for the successful transfer of technologies between the sending unit (SU) and receiving unit (RU), it was necessary to have a Technology Transfer Specialist (TTS) – a SU expert responsible for organizing and coordinating the technology transfer process between SU and RU. The role and key areas of responsibility of this expert in the process of scaling up the technology for obtaining APIs from laboratory conditions to industrial production were identified. Conclusions. According to the results of the analysis, there is a lack of a clearly defined standardized algorithm for approaches to scaling and transferring technology for obtaining APIs in the pharmaceutical industry in Ukraine and worldwide. In the course of the research, the relevance of forming a single standardized algorithm for approaches to scaling and transferring substances from the laboratory to industrial production in accordance with the principles of GMP has been determined.
