Повний текст джерелаThe study of the static and dynamic behaviour of the architectural heritage of historical-artistic value made up of rigid stone blocks is a topic of particular interest in the field of modern Seismic Engineering. Such knowledge, in fact, is indispensable for the planning of correct maintenance for the conservation of this type of cultural heritage, especially in conditions of natural and human-induced risks. Among these types of artifacts, the Neptune Temple (also called Poseidònion) located inside the Archaeological Park of Paestum (southern Italy) and a case study of this research, is an emblem for the architectural, sculptural, constructional and structural aspects. It is also unique in the international panorama for its state of conservation, still complete of the whole trabeation and the two pediments. The work describes the study and the research in progress in this area, illustrating the main results obtained by in-depth theoretical studies of the static and dynamic behaviour of rigid block, from experimental investigations carried out both in the laboratory and on site. These last were conducted under the patronage of ICOMOS Italia and the Archaeological Park of Paestum. These studies and research have the objective of evaluating the static and dynamic behaviour of the main building blocks of the Temple and, also, evaluating their safety about seismic actions... Повний текст джерелаOccupants' safety in architectural spaces during an emergency is essentially connected to the evacuation process. Current strategies are influenced by a schematic and deterministic approach: it is supposed that building layout and wayfinding systems can directly induce individuals’ behaviors. Interventions on buildings could be enough for reducing people risk, because occupants would surely behave in “the correct way” (e.g.: using right paths). This approach seems to exclude behavioral aspects: experiments demonstrate enormous differences between theoretical and real behaviors in evacuation. Same problems are noticed at both small (building) and wide (urban) scale. Hence, this study focuses on a behavioral point of view and defines a “behavioral design” (BD) approach for increasing people’s safety in architectural spaces. BD is aimed at adapting architectural spaces depending on human behaviors! Hence, method phases include: understanding behaviors in emergency through experiments/real world events; defining and validating evacuation simulation model; analyzing emergency processes through simulator; proposing design solutions based on retrieved critical behaviors and verifying their impact by simulator or drills. The BD method effectiveness is shown by 2 cases. Firstly, an earthquake pedestrians’ evacuation simulator is developed. The model is able to represent man-environment interferences in damaged scenarios and can be used for evaluating vulnerability-reduction interventions on buildings, urban planning and rescuers’ management strategies. The second case concerns wayfinding systems definition in building heritage (theater). Systems are defined so as to address correct evacuation path choices, by reducing overall risks with no architectural modifications. This issue is considerably significant in these buildings because of preservation principles and minimum intervention criterion. This work was developed in accordance with “TAV-progetto SHELL-O.R.4.4” activities.

Повний текст джерелаThe doctoral dissertation concerns about architectural heritage represented by the so-called “Baraccato” houses. The most ancient Baraccato structural system was defined by the Bourbon Government in the late 18th century and it represented the anti-seismic model for the reconstruction of several italian cities between 1783 and 1908. In such constructions the load-bearing system, composed by a timber-framed masonry infill, is the result of a "seismic memory" based on a experience and pratical knowledge whose scientific validity has been mostly verified only from an empirical point of view. For this reason, the main scope of the thesis was to assess the seismic efficiency of the constructive system by defining a specific mechanical model. In addition, the research deals with the analysis and description of the typological and morphological aspects that characterize the Baraccato houses found in some examples still existing in Calabria, a region in the South of Italy. One of the most emblematic buildings of this construction technique, the Episcopal Palace of Mileto, was analyzed in detail and has been the object of analysis of the mechanical model proposed. With reference to the research areas of interest described above, the thesis consists of three main parts: Historical and constructive analysis The first part explores the genesis and spread of the Baraccato technique with regard to similar examples, widespread in the territories of high seismic risk of Italy and more generally in the world. The research shows the constructive characteristic of the Baraccato building, identifying the anti-seismic quality. In addition to the "historical reconstruction" of the Baraccato technique, the first part of the thesis contains the results of a survey on existing heritage aimed at evaluating the extent of Baraccato heritage in different centres of Calabria and its conservation status. Mechanical analysis In the central part of the thesis, the mechanical model proposed for the analysis of the most ancient Baraccato system is shown. The aim was to translate the empirical intuitions that characterize the structural configuration of the Baraccato buildings with a modern scientific language. Through a multiscale mechanical analysis, a simplified modeling methodology has been defined to describe the complex mechanical phenomena that characterize the seismic behaviour of mixed wood and masonry structures. As a matter of fact, in a first phase a micro-mechanical analysis was carried out on a single Baraccato wall, already undergoing experimental tests at the CNR-Ivalsa Laboratory of Trento in 2013, which allowed the calibration of the mechanical parameters that characterize the wall elements, like wooden frame, connections and masonry. Subsequently, the simplified analysis approach, called EFM (Equivalent Frame Method), widely used in the literature for the study of masonry structures, has been implemented for the seismic analysis of an entire Baraccato building. Case study The last part of the thesis concerns about the study of an emblematic case of eighteenth-century Baraccato house. In particular, the Bishop palace of Mileto (South Italy), because of its enormous historical, cultural and constructive value, was chosen as the subject of a specific study, aimed at application and validation of mechanical model defined. In addition, the poor state of conservation of the building has allowed to detect the original construction solutions, providing a rare testimony of the original Baraccato technique. As a matter of fact, in order to avoid the complete loss of the Bishop's Palace, affected by several collapses and acts of vandalism in the last few years, the thesis contains the results of a recovery activity, material and cultural life, promoted by the Architecture Department of Rome Tre University, which has recently led to the beginning of a procedure for affixing the architectural constraint on the Palace, which should guarantee its definitive preservation and enhancement.

Повний текст джерелаIl 1783 segna per la Calabria una data infausta, un terremoto dalle proporzioni inaudite colpisce la Calabria Ulteriore con repliche che continuarono incessantemente per circa tre anni. Le conseguenze furono catastrofiche intere città completamente rase al suolo, circa 30.000 morti a cui si aggiunsero ulteriori 5.000 per gli stenti successivi al terremoto, l’economia della regione completamente annientata. Ferdinando IV in maniera tempestiva attua una serie di iniziative tra le quali la promulgazione delle Istruzioni generali, il primo regolamento antisismico di Europa. Tale codice rappresenta la sintesi dei più avanzati principi della nascente ingegneria antisismica, come il perseguire la connessione delle pareti murarie e quindi l’”effetto scatolare”, la regolarità in pianta ed in alzato, la riduzione della massa sismica. L’attuazione delle Istruzioni Borboniche è rappresentata da un sistema costruttivo costituito da muratura rinforzata da telai; una tecnologia che si fonda su un sapere costruttivo intorno alle strutture di legno esistente in Calabria da tempo immemore. Infatti, già durante la civiltà italica, modellini fittili scoperti a nord di Sibari, testimoniano un utilizzo d’intelaiature irrigidite da croci di sant’andrea; altri esempi di edifici a struttura lignea, oltre a quelli di epoca romana caratterizzati dall’opus craticium presenti nel Regno di Napoli e a costruzioni relative alla prima conquista Normanna, sono descritti in alcune cronache d’epoca del XVII e XVIII secolo. La riedificazione successiva all’evento tellurico del 1783 previde una buona organizzazione degli interventi, vera e propria protezione civile ante-litteram e lo sviluppo di diverse tipologie di edifici “baraccati”, tra i quali, forse il più noto, quello incluso nel trattato di Vivenzio e indicato come “Case formate di legno”. I catastrofici terremoti del 1905 e 1908 “collaudarono” il sistema, che diede prova di una corretta risposta ad azioni di tipo dinamico mostrando, unico dissesto comune alle diverse costruzioni Borboniche analizzate, per apparecchi murari non eseguiti a regola d’arte, il ribaltamento di porzione di paramento murario esterno. La campagna sperimentale, che ha incluso prove cicliche quasi statiche su riproduzioni in scala 1 a 1 di parete Borbonica, ha mostrato un appropriato comportamento del campione sotto azioni cicliche, in cui la muratura, almeno per spostamenti di non importante entità, viene riportata al cessare dell’azione della forza orizzontale, nella posizione originaria o prossima grazie alla presenza del telaio ligneo caratterizzato da un’alta flessibilità. Il telaio di legno non ha mostrato alcuna deformazione non reversibile o lesione per tutta la durata della prova, mentre piccole lesioni nei giunti di malta ed espulsioni di pietra hanno caratterizzato il riempimento di muratura. La durabilità del sistema risulta limitata nonostante i diversi accorgimenti suggeriti dalle Istruzioni, a causa dell’alto tenore di umidità generato nell’apparecchio murario e quindi di condizioni favorevoli per attacchi di tipo biotico.
