By using Four-ball test machine, the anti-wear and extreme pressure performances of base oil that contain aluminum nitride (AlN) nanoparticles additive was investigated. The experimental results showed that nanoparticles additive can effectively improve extreme pressure and anti-wear performance of base oil, and the optimal concentration of it in the base oil is 3 wt%. AlN and T106 compatibility experiments showed that T106 can improve extreme pressure and anti-wear performance of AlN nanoparticles additive. Two additives have synergies to improve extreme pressure and anti-wear performance of base oil.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical profile and therapeutic potential of the essential oil and nanoemulsions of Citrus x sp (Tanja Lemon). Hydrodistillation was used to extract the essential oil. Gas Chromatography coupled to Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) was used for the analysis of chemical constituents. The phenolic content (CFT) was analyzed by the Folin-Ciocalteau assay, and flavonoids (CFLT) by complexation with aluminum. The nanoemulsions were formulated by the phase inversion method. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by a hydroxyl radical assay and the anti-inflammatory activity by protein denaturation, and antiarthritic activity by a cyclooxygenase inhibition assay in bovine albumin serum. By means of GC/MS, limonene was identified as the major component (70.25%). The determination of CFT and CFLT quantified 227.645 mg EAT g-1 and 86.57 mg EQ g-1. For antioxidant capacity, nanoemulsions have EC50 values of 9.10-11.28 mg L-1. In anti-inflammatory activity, synergies quantified 4.63-11.03 mg L-1. For the antiarthritic activity, it is noted that among the nine synergies formulated, some manifested excellent antiarthritic activity, with EC50 values of 1.9-1.98 mg L-1. It can be affirmed that the formulations produced from Citrus x sp presented satisfactory results, evidencing the efficacy of their properties.

The purpose of the research was to investigate effect of compatibility between AlN nanoparticles and borated bis-succinimide on tribological properties of base oil. The load-carrying capacity and anti-wear (AW) performance of base oil that contains aluminum nitride (AlN) nanoparticles or borated bis-succinimide (T152B) additive was examined; the tribological properties of the compatibility between AlN and T152B were also examined. The experimental results showed that AlN nanoparticles additive can effectively improve load-carrying capacity and anti-wear performance of base oil. AlN nanoparticles and T152B compatibility experiments showed that two additives have synergies to improve anti-wear performance of base oil. These findings indicate that AlN nanopaticles is an excellent load-carrying capacity and antiwear additive, and it can be used with T152B together in base oil.

Groundbreaking experiments, utilizing unmodified serum albumin, demonstrate a remarkable increase in lifespan and enhanced physical capabilities, highlighting the potential of an integrative approach. Gastric cancer (GC) is a common malignant tumor, and patients with GC have a low survival rate due to limited effective treatment methods. Angiogenesis and immune evasion are two key processes in GC progression, and they act synergistically to promote tumor progression. Tumor vascular normalization has been shown to improve the efficacy of cancer immunotherapy, which in turn may be improved through enhanced immune stimulation. Therefore, it may be interesting to identify synergies between immunomodulatory agents and anti-angiogenic therapies in GC. This strategy aims to normalize the tumor microenvironment through the action of the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor while stimulating the immune response through immunotherapy and prolonging the survival of GC patients.

The COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted anti-violence centers for women. This study aims to investigate how the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions affect: the assistance and protection functions of the anti-violence centers; the needs of women victims of violence; and the well-being of the professionals working with these women. Twenty-four Italian anti-violence centers were involved, and 29 women working there were interviewed. From the qualitative analysis of the texts, three main themes were identified regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the anti-violence centers service: 1) transformations and synergies to improve help-seeking, 2) consequences of the pandemic situation on women victims of violence, and 3) the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on professionals. The results show that anti-violence centers need to be restructured to respond to the changes caused by the pandemic and expand their remote support strategies. Their interventions were fundamental in enabling women to seek help during the COVID-19 pandemic. The professionals involved in providing support to victims encountered stressful difficulties specific to the pandemic.

Malgré le nombre croissant d'entreprises déployant plusieurs Business Models simultanément, peu de recherches se sont intéressées au lien entre la diversification des Business Models et la performance. L'objectif de cette thèse est d’appréhender cette relation en étudiant les mécanismes qui lui sont sous-jacents. En utilisant des données provenant de l'industrie mondiale du transport aérien, nous avons réalisé dix-huit analyses QCA et documenté les choix relatifs aux mécanismes d'exploitation des synergies et de réduction des anti-synergies au sein des compagnies aériennes qui exploitent simultanément un Business Model Low-Cost parallèlement à leur Business Model originel à service complet. La mobilisation d’une approche configurationnelle, nous a permis d’identifier les configurations de mécanismes expliquant la performance et la haute performance d’un portefeuille de Business Models. Nos résultats suggèrent que les mécanismes d'exploitation des synergies et de réduction des anti-synergies sont complémentaires et interdépendants. Contrairement à ce que suggèrent certaines recherches, il ressort que l'exploitation des synergies liées aux ressources n'est pas suffisante pour expliquer la performance des portefeuilles de Business Models. En outre, nos résultats montrent une divergence des combinaisons de mécanismes d'exploitation des synergies liées aux ressources. Cependant, ces derniers n'ont pas révélé de différence majeure entre les configurations de mécanismes à court et à moyen terme. Par ailleurs, l'analyse des cas typiques et déviants nous a permis d'identifier une nouvelle typologie de synergies et d'anti-synergies, qui tient compte des dimensions temporelle et interactionnelle de ces mécanismes. Les contributions de la thèse soulignent la nature équifinale, non linéaire et asymétrique des configurations de mécanismes expliquant la performance des portefeuilles de Business Models
Despite the growing number of companies deploying multiple Business Models simultaneously, few studies have explored the link between Business Model diversification and performance. The objective of this thesis is to study this relationship by examining the underlying mechanisms. Using data from the global airline industry, we conducted eighteen QCA analyses and documented the choices related to the mechanisms of exploiting synergies and reducing anti-synergies within airlines that simultaneously operate a low-cost Business Model and their original full-service Business Model. The deployment of a configurational approach allowed us to identify the configurations of mechanisms explaining both performance and high performance in a portfolio of Business Models. Our results suggest that the mechanisms for exploiting synergies and reducing anti-synergies are complementary and interdependent. Contrary to what some research suggests, it emerges that the exploitation of resource-related synergies alone is not sufficient to explain the performance of Business Model portfolios. Furthermore, our results reveal a divergence in the combinations of mechanisms for exploiting resource-related synergies. Meanwhile, our results did not reveal a significant difference between short-term and medium-term mechanism configurations. Additionally, the analysis of typical and deviant cases allowed us to identify a new typology of synergies and anti-synergies that considers the temporal and interactional dimensions of these mechanisms. The contributions of the thesis highlight the equifinal, non-linear and asymmetric nature of the configurations of mechanisms explaining the performance of Business Model portfolios

This chapter examines what it means to take a human rights approach to women’s poverty and economic status. Special attention is given to structural sources of women’s poverty, the challenges a right-based framework presents to neoliberal priorities and values, and low-income women’s resistance to these forces. Synergies among economic and political conditions; ideology (e.g., individualism, meritocracy); classist, racist, and sexist stereotypes about poverty and low-income women; and welfare policies that subordinate and regulate low-income women are discussed. Emphasis is placed on understanding welfare rights activism and other anti-poverty/inequality collectives, with the goal of illuminating the social psychological factors that contribute to collective action, economic justice, and the promotion of a rights-based approach to women’s poverty.

This chapter examines the question of how a nation can combat pervasive (‘systemic’) corruption and collusion and prevent these practices from plaguing and undermining public procurement processes. It focuses on Brazil where Operation Car Wash (Operação Lava Jato) exposed widespread corruption and collusion affecting public procurement, but also reflects on the academic and policy debate relating to the question of how a nation can escape from a ‘high-corruption’ equilibrium, especially one strengthened by its interaction with supplier collusion. The chapter notes that the Brazilian experience provides support for the hypothesis that where corruption is endemic, better laws, and law enforcement, may be insufficient on their own to break a cycle and to remove the incentives and opportunities for corruption and collusion that exist. It also recognizes that, for many jurisdictions, wholesale political, economic, and social reform is unlikely to be feasible. It thus proposes a multipronged, and self-reinforcing, set of reforms to trigger change, concentrated on weaknesses diagnosed in the system. In particular, it suggests that, where corruption affects public procurement, beyond specific adjustments to procurement, competition and anti-corruption laws, procurers, anti-corruption and competition enforcement agencies need to work closely together to coordinate policies and achieve synergies, and to combat incentives and opportunities for corruption and collusion within procurement processes. Such reforms must be combined with measures to tackle broader factors contributing to systemic corruption. Although inspired by the Brazilian case study, the diagnosis and proposed reform strategy provides a workable model for use in other jurisdictions.

Abstract In an era characterized by escalating emphasis on fuel economy and the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions within the aerospace industry, this paper presents an innovative paradigm including the hybrid electric engine with contra-rotating propellers. This article unveils a pioneering technological achievement, exemplified by our patented invention registered under the identifier IB/2021/060538, which received a gold medal at the ICAN 2022 International Invention competition in Toronto, Canada, represents a noteworthy advancement in the domain of hybrid engine technology. It is imperative to acknowledge that the concept is currently in the conceptual design phase, necessitating further refinement to attain its maximum potential. The engine, characterized as a contra-rotating propeller system, engenders an efficiency gain ranging from 6% to 16% relative to single-fuel engines, with one internal combustion engine providing half of the required power and the electric motor complementing the remaining share. This innovative system comprises two distinct configurations: a system with two electric motors and one fuel engine in which one of the electric engines is used as a backup engine. In case of user preference or fuel engine failure, the backup electric is engaged in place of the fuel engine. This paradigm-shifting innovation effectively changes the conventional internal combustion engine into a multi-engine anti-torque system, facilitating augmented thrust generation while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption by an impressive margin of 40% to 60% when compared with conventional engine models. Beyond its commendable fuel efficiency, the hybrid engine is characterized by a satisfactory level of reliability. This is related to the inclusion of a backup electric motor. In addition to the internal combustion engine, supporting the system with the ability to manage system failures and maintain power output even under emergency circumstances. Notably, the fundamental concept of the contra-rotating propeller system is not entirely novel, however, our innovative approach harmoniously synchronizes two electric motors, thereby containing the advantages inherent in the contra-rotating system with the reliability attributed to electric propulsion.
