Abstract This article interrogates three manuscript inventories for Anna of Denmark’s collection at the Tudor palace of Oatlands in Surrey, written at yearly intervals in 1616, 1617 and 1618. It explores the changing display of her paintings there in lavishly furnished settings and the positioning of a new portrait, Paul van Somer’s Anne of Denmark. Van Somer locates his subject in the hunting park at Oatlands with a representation, in the background, of an Inigo Jones gateway. This article explores Anna’s agency as a collector and patron. It proposes new readings for the interplay between portraiture, architecture, and the decorative and performing arts at the early Stuart court. Through a study of particular occasions at which they were seen by foreign ambassadors, it proposes a political currency for the queen’s collection and for van Somer’s portraits and Jones’s architecture, as integral components in the elaborate ‘performances’ of the court.

The inventory of the jewels of Anne of Denmark, wife of James I of England, belongs to a group of catalogues of personal jewellery of Tudor and Stuart royalty of which one of the most important is that made after the death of Henry VIII in 1550. It is now in the National Library of Scotland (Adv. MS 31.1.10) and was compiled in 1606, the last entry being dated January 1607. It records over four hundred items giving the weight of gold or silver, and the number and nature of the gems in each. The text was written in a neat secretary hand on the recto of each folio, the verso being left blank for later notes. Most of these, together with the marginalia and corrections to the main text, are in the same hand; but two other writers can be distinguished. The presence of these corrections and annotations show it to have been the working copy kept in the Jewel House. The detailed descriptions make it possible to trace some of the jewels in the earlier inventories of Henry VIII, Mary Tudor and Queen Elizabeth, and, in the case of the latter, to donors such as her favourite, the Earl of Warwick. On his accession James I declared certain jewels to be ‘individually and inseparably for ever annexed to the kingdome of this realme,’ but this did not prevent either their use at Court of subsequent dispersal.

Increased Consumption of Pivmecillinam in Primary Care for Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infection (uUTI) Is Not Associated With Increased Resistance Rates." Abstract Background The evolution of antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli (E. coli) hampers the treatment of UTIs, mirroring the global public health concerns around antimicrobial resistance. Pivmecillinam, an oral prodrug of mecillinam (a β-lactam antibiotic), is used as first-line treatment for uUTIs in Denmark. Here, we examine the use of, and the prevalence of resistance to, mecillinam in Denmark in the primary care setting. Methods Nationwide data on the use of and resistance to pivmecillinam (reported as its active form, mecillinam) was extracted and examined from the Danish Integrated Antimicrobial Resistance Monitoring and Research Programme (DANMAP) 2019 report (www.danmap.org). Prevalence estimates of resistance reported by DANMAP 2019 were obtained from the Danish Microbiology Database (MiBA). Results In 2019, pivmecillinam accounted for about 27% of penicillins and 75% of penicillins with extended spectrum consumed in primary healthcare in Denmark. Pivmecillinam usage has increased primarily due to changes in recommendations for the treatment of uUTIs. Between 2010 and 2019, pivmecillinam usage in Denmark increased by 45% from 1.67 to 2.43, defined as daily doses per 1,000 inhabitants per day. In 2019, analysis of 83,850 urinary isolates from patients in the primary care setting with E. coli revealed a 5.3% resistance rate to mecillinam. Time-trend analysis using data from a 10-year period showed a small but significant decrease from the 5.5% resistance rate recorded in 2010 (p=0.001). In general, in spite of increasing use in Denmark, the development of resistance to pivmecillinam has remained low. In fact, a slight decline in pivmecillinam resistance was observed over the past decade. Conclusion Despite the rising number of UTIs and the increasing use of pivmecillinam for uUTI in Denmark, over the past decade, the development of resistance to pivmecillinam remains low. This article deals with transnational transfer of ideas about witchcraft at the end of the sixteenth century. The outset is alleged witchcraft performed against a royal Danish fleet that was to carry Princess Anne across the North Sea to her husband, King James VI of Scotland, autumn 1589, and following trials in Copenhagen. These include court records from witchcraft trials and diplomatic correspondence between Denmark, England and Scotland. By close-readings of these texts, a multi-layered narrative emerges. The article sheds light on the routes for transmission of witchcraft ideas, as well as the contemporary context for interpreting witchcraft notions.

The Masque of Blacknesse was a carnival—cavalcade of colour, — it was brash, bold and performed with swaggering pomposity in 1605. The Masque was written by Ben Jonson and staged by Inigo Jones. In it, the Queen of England, Anne of Denmark and her noble friends were painted Black and pretended to be the daughters of the River Niger (personified as a God King). This article unpicks the ethnographic themes in King Niger's speech where he extols the beauty of blacknesse. The author suggests that whilst early modern fiction may echo themes present in that society, it needs to be decoded and in some cases decolonised to decipher early modern ethnography.

The European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) was set up on 20 July 1958, 16 months after the Treaty of Rome was signed. In 1962, the UEMS Section of Psychiatry was established. It was, however, relatively inactive until it was revitalised following a meeting of the European Societies in 1990 called by the Royal College of Psychiatrists and chaired by Dr (now Dame) Fiona Caldicott. The UEMS Board of Psychiatry was established in 1992 as a working group of the Section with a particular focus on training matters. The Section is currently chaired by Dr Anne Lindhardt (Denmark) and the Board is chaired by Professor Manuel Gomez-Beneyto (Spain). Both Section and Board meet twice a year.

Nye kulturstudier [New Cultural Studies] is the first introduction to cultural studies in Scandinavia and an impressive presentation of the subject. The book aims to explain how cultural studies emerged as an interdisciplinary field in humanities and social sciences. Other introductions to cultural research in ethnology and anthropology have been produced – but this one is different, since it is more comprehensive and ambitious. Nye kulturstudier is the result of interdisciplinary collaboration between four colleagues from Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Senior lecturer Anne Scott Sørensen and Professor Ole Martin Høystad are affiliated to the Institute for Literature, Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. Professor Erling Bjurström belongs to Tema Q at Linköping University, and Professor Halvard Vike works at the Institute for Social Anthropology at Oslo University. The authors comment that they are oriented towards different subjects and educational programmes at their respective universities. The book begins with a background to the theories and scientific traditions. This is followed by Cultural Analysis and Methodology, a chapter on Identity, Globalisation and Multiculturalism, one on Taste, Lifestyle and Consumption and, finally, by Nature, Body and Experience Landscapes.

While few surviving jewels can be identified with any certainty as English work of the sixteenth or early seventeenth centuries, much descriptive evidence exists in the form of inventories and lists of gifts of jewels and plate exchanged between the sovereign and the courtiers each year on New Year's Day. A further fruitful source of information lies in the many contemporary portraits, those of ladies usually showing them with a lavish display of jewellery. Such jewels cannot, however, be claimed as certainly of English make; jewellery was an article of international commerce and much was imported.

The European Society for the Study of Tourette syndrome (ESSTS) was established in Denmark in 2000 by Mary Robertson and Anne Korsgaard. The aims of the organisation are to foster research activity and raise awareness of Tourette syndrome throughout Europe. The organisation went into abeyance in 2002 but was resurrected in 2007 in Bari, Italy. Since that time ESSTS has grown and prospered. We have established elected officers and a constitution. We have successfully applied for three large scale European research grants and have members throughout the European Union. We have held yearly meetings across Europe including two training schools and we have developed successful alliances with patient support groups. ESSTS has developed and published the first European guidelines on assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Tourette syndrome.

ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Ida Wentzel Winther: Availability, Presence and Potential Absence – Young peoples’ Use of Mobile Phones Mobile phones have become public property. We communi-cate as never before, everywhere and always. Day and night we are accessible. This article is based on a field study in a youth club in Denmark, and focuses on how young people between 12 and 16 establish both a direct and a mediated presence simultaneously, which is at the same time a poten-tial absence. It also explores how our cultural notions of public and private change and are negotiated in different social spaces. Using cultural phenomenology, I investigate how mobile phones change sociality and existing manners. The article is based on the research project “Limits to access?“, which is part of a larger project “High-tension Aesthetics. Ethics and Aesthetics in Contemporary Media (2005-08)“, led by Anne Jerslev, Copenhagen University. Key words: Mobile phones, youth club, accessibility, relation between body, objects and media.

Dr Inge Lehmann was born on 13 May 1888 at Osterbro by the Lakes in Copenhagen. She grew up and lived much of her long life there, and for over 50 years, on Kastelvej, Copenhagen. The Lehmann family had its roots in Bohemia; the Danish branch had many influential members of high standing, including barristers, politicians and engineers. Inge Lehmann's paternal grandfather laid out the first Danish telegraph line (opened in 1854) and her great grandfather was Governor of the National Bank. Her mother's father, Hans Jakob T0rsleff, belonged to an old Danish family with a priest in every generation. A granddaughter, Anne Groes, was for a while Minister of Commerce. Inge's childhood was a happy one in the peaceful atmosphere of the 1890s. Her father, Alfred Lehmann, was a professor of psychology at the University of Copenhagen who pioneered the study of experimental psychology in Denmark. He was rarely seen except at mealtimes, though sometimes on Sunday he took the family for a walk. (A fund endowed by her estate makes a travel award each year alternatively to a psychologist and a geophysicist.) She had a sister, Harriet.

In an interview given during a lecture tour in Scandinavia organized by the universities of Copenhagen, Bergen, and Aarhus in October and November, 2012, Stanley Wells talks about his own career in Shakespeare studies and discusses past and present major changes and issues within the field, including his own Oxford Complete Works of 1986, co-edited with Gary Taylor et al., revision and collaboration theories, global Shakespeare, and new challenges for Shakespearean scholars. He shares thoughts on his own current and future research projects, which include a new monograph on Shakespearean actors through time, and he also comments on the relationship between academic scholars and theatre practitioners, and ways in which to understand the ever-shifting concept of a Shakespearean play in relation to performance, reading, and personal and critical responses. Following a long career of many publications and editions, Stanley Wells is now Professor Emeritus of the University of Birmingham, and Honorary President of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Anne Sophie Haahr Refskou is a Doctoral Fellow in English and Dramaturgy at Aarhus University, Denmark. She works with Shakespearean acting and dramaturgy, focusing on the relationship between text and performance, particularly in relation to the actor's body and physical expressions.

French Literature in Sweden 1830–1900. Translation, Reception and Circulation The article presents some results from an international project on the introduction of French literature in Scandinavia during the 19th century. A point of departure is the database BREFS (Bibliographie du Réalisme Français en Scandinavie), containing the translations of novels, short stories, poetic works and theatre plays that were published in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in book form from 1830 to 1900. The Swedish part of the bibliography is in focus, consisting of as many as 1 500 translations, and a list of the seemingly most popular French writers in Sweden during the period is presented. With some exceptions, these writers are probably unknown to most Swedes, and not even mentioned in historical surveys of Swedish literature: Eugène Scribe, Eugène Sue, Charles Perrault, Anne H. J. Duveyrier, Henri Meilhac, Olivier Gloux, Michel Carré, Alice Durand and Jean F. A. Bayard. In fact, when it comes to the number or translations published, these authors by far exceed the wellknown representations of the French realist period, Stendhal, Balzac, Flaubert and Maupassant. I try, briefly, to relate these results to research that has been done by others on translation in the nineteenth century, the working conditions of the translators, the reception of French authors and the role of French theatre in Sweden, which was so successful at the time.

It was revealed that the Masque is an important element of the culture of England of first half of XVII century. The structure of the royal court of James I is revealed. It is characterized by factionalism and the existence of centers of influence, the hostile relations of which were capable of starting the process of political instability in the country. The diversity of traditions of the cultural space of the royal court of the Stuarts is indicated, in which the royal court of Anne of Denmark was an alternative direction. It has been established that the main principle of the reign of James I is viewed through the prism of satisfying royal ambitions by manifesting «splendour and luxury» in the court Masque. The essence of the phenomenon of the Court Masque of King James I is revealed, which was expressed in constructively-international, aesthetically-educational, cultural and educational, advisory, pacifist-reconciliatory aspects, as well as in demonstrating to Europe the financial stability of the crown of England.

Salisbury House is but one example from a significant corpus of architectural patronage carried out by a single family. In two generations, the Cecils created three great ‘prodigy houses’ among a range of notable country houses including Cranborne Manor in Dorset, Pymmes in Hertfordshire, Wothorpe Lodge near Burghley House in Northamptonshire, and Snape Castle in Yorkshire. It was William Cecil, 1st Baron Burghley (1520/21-98), who from the early 1560s initiated this prolific campaign of building with Burghley House in Northamptonshire, Theobalds in Hertfordshire, and Burghley House in London. Both Thomas Cecil (1542-1623) and Robert Cecil (1563-1612) inherited their father’s passion for architecture. Even when Burghley House in the Strand was nearing completion, Thomas continued work on his remarkable Italianate villa in Wimbledon (begun 1588, demolished c. 1720), one of the most innovative houses of the period, with a three-sided plan, built on a steeply sloping hillside that prompted the composition of elaborate terraces. Like the family’s other properties, Wimbledon House was able to offer hospitality to Elizabeth I, while Hatfield House, built by Robert Cecil between 1607 and 1612, was specifically designed to entertain James I and his Queen, Anne of Denmark. In London, Robert Cecil’s architectural patronage started in about 1596 with the improvement and remodelling of Beaufort House in Chelsea, apparently in order to extend his influence into that area, although the scheme was quickly abandoned. Three years later, Robert began Salisbury House in the Strand, while in 1609 he built the first commercial centre in the West End, known as the ‘New Exchange’. From 1612, he also developed a strip of land along the west side of St Martin’s Lane as a new residential area, but did not live to see it completed.

Riddle’s Court, a former merchant’s house situated off the Royal Mile, Lawnmarket, Edinburgh, underwent major refurbishment and transformation into the Patrick Geddes Centre for Learning from 2015 to 2017. The results from historical research, building survey and architectural watching briefs are as yet unparalleled, as no other building on the Royal Mile has received the level of historical and archaeological research carried out at Riddle’s Court. In the late 16th century much of the Royal Mile was a plethora of mainly stone and timber-framed houses. However, Riddle’s Court was an amalgam of predominantly ashlar and rubble construction with tall thatched roofs with dormer windows. Slate was a later addition in the early 18th century. The interior of the complex was furnished with several turnpike staircases of which only one now survives. During the 17th and 18th centuries Riddle’s Court was bedecked with all the fine trappings of a country mansion house and was occupied by major and minor aristocracy until the late 18th century. The status of the building was further elevated by its earlier royal connections that led to its partial remodelling for ceremonial purposes. A legacy of a lavish royal banquet in honour of King James VI of Scotland (James I of England) and his bride Queen Anne of Denmark was a painted ceiling in the so-called ‘King’s Chamber’ which commemorated their royal union. This ornate and historically significant painted beam and board ceiling was discovered in the 1960s during a period of building renovation by Edinburgh City Council. The ceiling was restored and is a focal point among a large collection of ornate plaster and painted ceilings. Subsequent removal of more modern lined ceilings during the present refurbishment led to the discovery of three more painted beam and board ceilings, and a concealed fireplace and bread oven that are rare survivors within not only the Royal Mile but elsewhere in Scotland. The presence of so much hitherto unrecorded artwork has significantly raised the importance of the Court’s North Block.

Abstract Background: A striking heterogeneity combined with an absence of highly efficient targeted treatments necessitates a continued effort to optimize the choice of chemotherapy for patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Neoadjuvant therapy has become the standard of care for high risk TNBC in order to potentially reduce breast and axillary surgery, start medical treatment early, allow genomic screening and guide post neoadjuvant therapy. Much attention is drawn to the use of immunotherapy in early TNBC, but there is also interesting data suggesting a potential to optimize the use of conventional chemotherapy. According to one meta-analysis including data from nine randomized controlled trials, the addition of platinum salts in the preoperative setting increases the pathologic complete response (pCR) rate in TNBC (Poggio 2018). A second meta-analysis, evaluating the effect of capecitabine in early breast cancer indicates an additional benefit from adding capecitabine to conventional chemotherapy in terms of an increased recurrence-free survival in the subset of TNBC (Mackelenbergh SABCS 2019). An adjuvant trial in TNBC suggests that the beneficial effect of capecitabine may be confined to patients with a non-basal like phenotype of TNBC (Lluch 2020), a subset that correlates with the homologous repair non-deficient subset which constitutes 41 % of TNBC in a mainly south Swedish population based cohort (Staaf 2019). The effect of capecitabine in platinum treated early TNBC is unknown. Objectives: We are conducting a multi-center randomized controlled trial evaluating the effect on the pCR rate by the addition of capecitabine to optimal platinum based and dose dense preoperative chemotherapy in early TNBC. Method: 820 patients (pts) with early TNBC stage 1 (≥20 mm) - 3 will be randomized 1:1 between two treatment arms A and B. A: Epirubicine Cyclophosphamide (EC) q2w x 4 followed by Carboplatin AUC 5 q3w with weekly paclitaxel x 12. B: Epirubicine Cyclophosphamide with capecitabine daily for two weeks (CEX) q3w x 4 followed by Carboplatin AUC 5 q3w with weekly paclitaxel x 12 The primary endpoint is pCR rate in the different treatment strata, and the primary translational endpoint will be the potential difference of treatment effect stratified for HRD-status in the primary tumor. Secondary endpoints include IDFS in subsets of TNBC, eg according to gene-expression-based subtypes of TNBC (Lehmann 2011, Burstein 2015), and germline mutation status of hereditary breast cancer genes. Tumor material for genotypig is collected at baseline, at surgery and optionally after two treatment cycles. Sequential blood samples are collected for tsDNA analysis during and after treatment termination. Results: The trial, which is a collaborative effort between the national breast cancer groups in the participating countries, has been postponed by the pandemic but is now recruiting according to plan. So far 56 patients out of 820 have been recruited at 15 sites in Sweden and Denmark. Additional Sites in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland are preparing to join the study. Background:Women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes, especially preterm birth (PTB) and small for gestational age (SGA). However, the link between RA disease activity, type and timing of anti-rheumatic treatment, and the risk of these outcomes remains unclear. Objectives:To explore the associations between maternal RA and PTB/SGA in relation to disease activity and use of anti-rheumatic treatment before and during pregnancy. Methods:By linking national medical birth registers to prospective clinical rheumatology registers (CRRs) in Sweden (SRQ) and Denmark (DANBIO), we identified 1739 RA-pregnancies and 17390 control-pregnancies (matched 1:10 on maternal age, birth year, and parity) with delivery 2006-2018. From CRRs and prescribed drug registers, we collected information on RA disease activity (DAS28, CRP and HAQ-score) and anti-rheumatic drugs (biologics, conventional synthetic (cs)DMARDs and oral steroids) nine months before and during pregnancy. Using logistic regression, we estimated adjusted odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for PTB and SGA in RA-pregnancies vs. control-pregnancies overall, and stratified by disease activity and type of anti-rheumatic treatment before and during pregnancy. Apart from the matching variables we adjusted for body mass index, smoking, educational level and country. Results:Overall, RA-pregnancies were associated with increased ORs of PTB (1.92, 95% CI 1.56-2.35) and SGA (1.93, 95% CI 1.45-2.57). High maternal disease activity during pregnancy strengthened the associations with both PTB and SGA, whereas the ORs approached 1 for low disease activity (control-pregnancies constituting the reference), Table 1. Among RA-pregnancies with available information on DAS28-CRP (n=686, 39%), OR was 2.69 (95% CI 1.37-5.26) for PTB, and 3.39 (95% CI 1.43-8.06) for SGA, comparing DAS28-CRP >=3.2 vs.<3.2 during pregnancy. Stratifying on type of anti-rheumatic treatment did not substantially change the results. Combination therapy with biologics together with oral steroids and/or csDMARDs in the nine months before pregnancy was associated with PTB (ORs spanning 2.57-3.45) and SGA (ORs spanning 2.40-3.81).Table 1.Adjusted odds ratios (ORs)1 for PTB and SGA in RA-pregnancies in relation to disease activity and functional status during pregnancy vs. control pregnanciesPreterm birthSmall for gestational age1Pregnancies, nEvents,n (%)Adjusted OR(95% CI)Pregnancies, nEvents,n (%)Adjusted OR(95% CI)Control-pregnancies217312794 (5)1 (REF)17184418 (2)1(REF)All RA pregnancies21734144 (8)1.92 (1.56-2.35)172275 (4)1.93 (1.45-2.57)DAS28-CRP3,4<3.245926 (6)1.05 (0.64-1.72)45613 (3)0.96 (0.49-1.91)3.2-5.118217 (9)2.40 (1.40-4.11)18113 (7)3.13 (1.64-5.97)>5.1435 (12)2.77 (0.86-8.87)434 (9)4.59 (1.59-13.2)No information105096 (9)2.18 (1.71-2.78)104245 (4)2.06 (1.46-2.90)HAQ-score3<0.533819 (6)1.31 (0.79-2.16)3358 (2)0.93 (0.41-2.12)0.5-0.916615 (9)2.37 (1.34-4.19)1655 (3)1.50 (0.60-3.74)≥119619 (10)1.85 (1.06-3.24)19518 (9)3.70 (2.05-6.67)No information103491 (9)2.06 (1.60-2.64)102744 (4)1.98 (1.39-2.82)CRP, mg/L3<1045521 (5)0.91 (0.55-1.51)45214 (3)1.09 (0.57-2.07)10-2919122 (11)2.58 (1.52-4.38)19012 (6)2.68 (1.38-5.22)≥30579 (16)4.59 (2.28-9.22)575 (9)4.12 (1.68-10.1)No information103192 (9)2.10 (1.64-2.70)102344 (4)2.05 (1.44-2.90)1Missingness on small for gestational age in 12 RA-pregnancies and 128 control-pregnancies 2Only among live births, i.e. stillbirths excluded. 3Maximum value any time during pregnancy 4Defined as DAS28-CRP without patient’s global health VASConclusion:During pregnancy, disease activity rather than treatment, appears to be the most important risk factor for PTB and SGA in RA. The findings highlight the importance of monitoring RA during pregnancy, especially in women receiving extensive anti-rheumatic treatment or with residual disease activity.Acknowledgements:The Nordic clinical rheumatology registers for allowing us to use their clinical data. In Denmark several factors like the national pesticide action plan, ethical questions, national research strategy, increasing share of organic farming and fees are affecting the policy regarding regulatory agencies approach for products supporting sustainable pest management. The use of microbial pesticides in Denmark are limited, with the relatively largest share used in the greenhouse sector. Approval of a product not sold in Denmark before July 26, 1993 consists of two parts: An EU approval of the active micro-organism, and a national approval of the product containing the active micro-organism. An EU approval of an active micro-organism is only granted if the active micro-organism is included in Annex I of the directive of authorized active organisms. As a main principle, an active micro-organism shall be entered on the list of authorized active organisms before the Danish EPA may grant an approval for sale or import of products containing active micro-organisms. Until now five new organisms have been recommended for EU approval and inclusion in Annex I of the Directive, but so far none have been included. For products sold in Denmark before July 26, 1993 a transitional scheme specified in the Order is applied. Under this procedure application for approval of such products should be submitted to the Danish EPA before July 26, 1994 if the products were intended for sale in Denmark after this date. The application is considered at a national level only by the Danish EPA. The Danish EPA has received applications concerning nine different active micro-organisms. Both GMO's and biocides are covered by specifie legislation. If the GMO's are also pesticides, they must also comply with the Danish pesticides legislation. As no transgenic microbial pesticides or microbial biocides have yet been registered in Denmark, there is no legal practice on this issue.

There has long been speculation about Anna of Denmark's faith. How and when the consort of King James VI and I came first to use the Catholic liturgy and then to convert from Lutheranism is explained here in detail. Powerful women within the queen's household were crucial to this change of faith, which gave hope to Catholics that Anna might convert her children and persuade the king to be more tolerant towards them in his multiple kingdoms. Even though these hopes were unrealised, the possibility is explored that she sought to found a monastery in France. That she had remained Catholic during such a turbulent era in British religious history is remarkable.
