Повний текст джерелаRaw earth provides importantenvironmental benefits, such as low embodiedenergy, lower greenhouse gas emissions, andinfinite reversibility. Today, these already wellknownbenefits are boosting interest in rawearthconstruction to help overcome one of oursocieties’ most pressing challenges: the «climateemergency». Yet, earth can further contribute tobuilding interior comfort in many ways. The studyof these other advantages is where this thesisfinds its field of research. To do this, we inquire about atmospheres, inthe field of sound atmospheres in particular, which tends to receive little attention in scientificresearch on raw earth. Through the lens ofambiences, this study allows us to more faithfullycapture the complexity of the represented, perceived, and lived modes of raw earth spaces. It also contributes to deepening the yet-to-bestrengtheneddialogue among physical data andsensitive data. This is done with the ultimate goalof evaluating the physical and sensitive effectsthat a natural material like raw earth can bring tousers’ quality of life.To find answers to our questions, we studyphysical data, mainly acoustic data, and sensitivedata in two contexts at the same time. Being thefirst of them based on a case study on existingschools with various user profiles and a set of rawearth implementations. The second compares thesame environment with and without raw earth

Повний текст джерелаThe question of urban spaces accessibility for disabled persons and elderly is frequently asked with more and more of acuity. In a universal context of an aging population and an increasing attention for security problem of aged pedestrian movements in the city, we are interested in the altered perception of the urban sonic ambiances by older people affected by presbycusis during their walks in the city. This work with an operational view is composed by three parts. First of all we identify the urban configurations in which are situations of danger encountered by older presbycusis persons appearing for the acoustic register. This identification is based on the notion of scenario-types accidents. Then we are constructing an experimental protocol correlating quantitative data issues of commented walks, physiologic measures of stress level engendered by the crossing of configurations previously identified and signal processing. This treatment is declined under multiple graphic representations allowing detecting in two dimensions those situations of danger: the temporally evolution of sound, the sonograms, the “audio textures” and the segmented images resulting. The superposition of those different graphic levels of urban sonic ambiances translations as perceived by older presbycusis persons intends to reflect the complexity following this altered perception. Finally, in the third part of this research, our double objective is to enrich the graphic translation of the acoustic dimension downtown as seen by an older presbycusis person and to propose the sketch of specifications regrouping dispositions and devices palliative to the appearance of danger situations for this category of city dwellers in order to guarantee them a serene using of urban space

Повний текст джерелаThe perceptible pan of the experience is not the most explicit one. Within the sensitive approach, the sonic experience seems mostly tangible during the high points of the musical presence or during the noise exposure. Besides, various fields of individual or collective action are sonic related. They react to sonic environments and write meanwhile their complex score. Through an ethnographical approach, this research investigates some relatively stable models of the local feast, the pregnancy of some historically constituted systems on forms and contents of the sonic action. Like other systems, the expressions of Noise, Music, Voice and the whole sonic gestures have been rendered natural by the feast. It is necessary to investigate the sonic spaces where merge the dynamics of individual impulses assembled in connective moments, strong intersubjectivity and intercorporality, as well as physical and symbolic resistance of places and perceptive habits. The ever singular relationsl1ip between feast and local area must be examined through the sonic impulses of collective actions. Finally, it is within an always mysterious connection that the sonic paradigm, and more generally the sensorial one - mark out the furrow of the societal link. How do these various registers of the sonic action make link and how do they locate ? Here are the two fundamental questions of this research

Повний текст джерелаThe particularity and challenge of this research subject lie in the confrontation between the urbanistic vision of the public space, the physical approach to acoustic measurement and the consideration of how the sonic environment is perceived. Several types of public spaces were used to study the assessment of urban sonic ambiances. We problematize our study of the understanding and assessment of sound perception in order to highlight some of its relevant parameters. The methodology was designed to combine perceptive data and physical measurements. The first stage of in situ investigation thus provided a corpus of 174 questionnaires, 513 photographs and 18 non-directive group interviews. Acoustic measurements were then made at the same temporalities. Finally, a second stage of in-depth individual interviews conducted with the 29 participants was completed with the realization of 145 mental mind maps. This multifaceted methodology helped to determine the influence of several parameters such as human presence, nature, the mineral aspect, seasonality and urban forms on the spatial and sonic assessment in public spaces

Nowadays, the sound environment is no longer only considered as potential annoyance, but it is sometimes recognize for the qualities it can bear. The European directive 2002/45/CE, relative to the management of environmental noise, requires the european states to identify «quiet areas» for their preservation and valorization due to the resource they represent. It defines the «quiet areas» as areas preserved from the noise. In this context, numerous studies have shown that in the urban environments the parks and gardens are acclaimed by users for the quality of their soundscape, but those qualities have never been accurately identified. If the European directive seems to consider the sound quality according to a noise level and the ideas of agreement or disagreement, different fields of study on the sound environment, from the psychoacoustic to the atmosphere studies, have shown that the esthetic experience is way more complex. The sound environment is full of emotional values, semantic, functional and aesthetic values. The aim of our work is to accurately identify the sound qualities that seem specific to urban parks and gardens. The sound qualities are understood more from a descriptive than an hedonist point of view, through the study of the experience of users in six differents parks and gardens of the Parisan area. First, it present a description of the different aspects of the sound environment of the garden established from various kind of datas : observations, acoustic measurements, and interviews with users. The sound environment of the garden is presented through sound configurations, perceptual effects, representations it evokes, or through practices. To overcome the relationship between noise level and agreement, this work propose in a second time to highlight links between tangibles and intangibles aspects of the soundscape. Although the soundscape seems to fall within an immaterial dimension : sound and aesthetic experience of the users, we assume that it can be mastered by the designers, the acousticians or the urban planners if it is considered as an effect of material dimensions : landscape structures or acoustic indicators. This work approach the sound quality through the architectural diversity of the garden design. It propose to understand the relationships between the different sound qualities identified, the landscape structures and the acoustic measurments

Повний текст джерелаThe issue of this thesis is then to characterize more precisely the noise exposure in the case of the combined sources road and train, in order to improve the annoyance assessment in this particular situation. Our approach is based on the characterization of the events that make up the global soundscapes in those situations. This aspect, which is relevant in a perceptive point of view, is treated in two steps. This aspect, which is relevant in a perceptive point of view, is treated in two steps. First, we perform an analysis of the events repartition in a given time interval. The results show relevant differences between several train lines. Second, a laboratory experiment has been carried out on the perception of passing trains regularity. The results show that subjects perceive the regularity variation in the train traffic, even if they can't quantify or qualify this variation. The regularity has a relevant effect, even if it hasn't been linked to annoyance assessment yet

Повний текст джерелаWhile the bank sector will be the center of huge changes, during next years, due to a restructuration of its model. It seems relevant to understand whether the sensory marketing can create added value for the customer and companies in this context A scent and/or a music diffusion must nevertheless be the object of recommandations. Indeed, will a scent or/a music with high level of congruency with brand image have differents effects(and stronger or lower) than a scent (or a music) with a low level of congruency on the satisfaction and behavioral responses of consumer ? This doctoral research aims to investigate this issue. Two diffents stages have been realised. First of all, a qualitative study allowed to show brand's identity markers allowing the creation of two types of scents (high congruency vs.low congruency) and two types of musics (high congruency vs. low congruency). The second stage, quantitative, has been realised in situ. Results showed that diffusion of a perfume with low congruency with the brand image leads to more favorable responses of physical elements and in fine on the satisfaction and on the behavioral responses. Conversely,a music's diffusion overall leads to negatives effects

Повний текст джерелаThe soundscape is a new way of perceiving our environment which allows us to identify the sound elements of our daily life. This research project is based on a specific theme, sounds produced by the plants and their role in the sound ambiances in the landscape. This is the perspective that we have explored in situ by comparing different plant species. This data collection has enabled us to propose a typology of plants soundscapes. In the first part, concepts related to the world of sound such as soundscape, sound object, and sound effect are at the origin of a framework that considers different scales measuring perceptions of sound. A literature review has focused on three complementary subject matters: first, we gathered different pieces of information related to sound and plants, on such topics as morphology, development, and weather conditions; second, we realized a rapid venture through the history of gardens, paying attention, on the one hand, to sensorial, therapeutic and technological gardens, and on the other hand, to sound trails through the perspective which defines sound as a project; third, we examined a list of plants receiving the songs and cries of wildlife, thus introducing the concept of biodiversity in the study of sound. An empirical data collection was performed at the Montreal Botanical Garden. Two complementary research methods were used: the first consisted of a soundwalks with participants during an hour in the Arboretum; the second consisted in an investigation conducted with an expert. These two sources of information lead to the elaboration of a framework composed of many listening scales targeting aspects such as textures and sound effects. This phase was completed by two others: first, the identification of various criteria (morphology, organization, weather); second, the determination of different atmospheres linked to them. We were then able to identify associations formed between eleven types of plants, each including various sub- scales. These sub-scales take into account specific sound atmospheres, listening scales designed to measure these atmospheres and a list of species to consider. This research opens the path to the perception of specific sounds with a thematic angle and in our case, the sounds of plants. It offers a new design tool to professionals, based upon the measurement of user’s perceptions regarding sound and the organization of a site.
