Повний текст джерелаMany authors have used stress fields to solve the equilibrium equation of continuum me- chanics. Airy (1863) solved the two-dimensional case, Maxwell (1870) and Morera (1892) solved the three-dimensional case. The above solutions are special cases of those of Beltrami (1892). Gurtin gave an example of solutions that do not have Beltrami’s S = CurlCurlA representation. He showed that if the domain Ω is regular, then this representation is complete in the class of regular stress fields which are self-equilibrated.My thesis title is ”Characterizations of matrix fields, potential matrices and applications to trace operators”. In this work, we are interested by showing many characterizations ofvector fields, of matrix fields and especially by generalizing the result of Gurtin in the case when the open set and the stress fields are not regular.This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter presents the research problem ad- dressed in this thesis. It also presents the origin of the subject of research.In the second chapter, we study the operator . In particular, the existence of potential vectors in different functional frameworks.In Chapters 3 and 4, we will show some versions of Beltrami’s completeness and we deduce some Helmholtz decomopsitions for symmetric matrix fields.The last chapter is devoted to the study of the image of different trace operators of functions W 2,p (Ω), W 3,p (Ω) when Ω is a bounded open of R 2 with Lipschitz boundary. The essential ingredient is given by the Airy’s function or by the Beltrami representation

Повний текст джерелаWith the technological advance of the last years it has been normal to see microprocessors with multiple cores. The expectation is that the growth of number of cores becomes greater than the growth of the speed of these cores. This way, besides worrying about optimizing sequential algorithms, developers started to give more attention to the possibilities of proting from all capacity offered by the cores. There exists a few programming models that allow a concurrent approach. In these days, the most adopted concurrent programming model is the one based on threads, which uses shared memory and is adopted in Java. Other model is based on message passing, on which the active computational entities are called actors. In this project, we studied Scala language and its model based on actors. Besides that, we implemented in Scala a parallel version of a classification algorithm that simules the immune system of the animals, parallel AIRS, and compared its performance with the Java version.

Повний текст джерелаThe world is facing worrisome declines in biodiversity. Species extinction rates have increased as a direct consequence of human activities. Protected areas have been implemented around the world in an effort to counter biodiversity loss. Although protected areas are part of the solution, they should be designed systematically in a way to maximize their effectiveness. Enhancing functional connectivity between protected areas is one way to increase their effectiveness. Climate change is disrupting environmental conditions globally. It is a threat to biodiversity that until recently was not often integrated into protected area design. Climate change has been shown to impact species movements, and therefore landscape functional connectivity. Some studies have suggested that enhancing functional connectivity between protected areas can also help species cope with climate change impacts. My thesis presents a methodology to design protected area networks while accounting for climate change and functional connectivity. My study area is located in the natural region of Gaspésie in Québec (Canada). The endangered Atlantic-Gaspésie population of woodland caribou (Rangifer tarandus caribou) was used as the focal species to define functional connectivity. This small population is in long-term decline due to predation and habitat change, but climate change may become an additional threat. First, I built a spatially explicit individual-based model to explain and simulate caribou movement. I used sparse VHF data available at the time of the study to select and parameterize a movement model using a pattern-oriented modeling strategy. My best model reproduced most of the movement patterns defined from the observed data. This model improved the understanding of the movement drivers for the Atlantic-Gaspésie caribou. It also provided spatial estimates of caribou landscape use in the Gaspésie region. I concluded that sparse data were sufficient to fit individual-based models when coupled with a pattern-oriented modeling strategy. Second, I estimated how climate change and conservation activities may impact caribou movement potential. I used the individual-based model to simulate caribou movements in hypothetical landscapes representing the impacts of various climate change scenarios and conservation activities. Conservation activities represented the implementation of new protected areas in Gaspésie, according to the scenario developed by the government of Québec, and the restoration of secondary roads inside protected areas. Climate change impacts on vegetation, as defined in my scenarios, reduced caribou movement potential. Road restoration was able to mitigate these negative effects whereas the implementation of the new protected areas did not improve caribou movement potential. Third, I presented a methodology to design effective protected area networks and proposed new protected areas to implement in Gaspésie to conserve biodiversity in the presence of climate change. I created a large sample of protected area networks expanding the existing network to reach an areal target of 12%. I then calculated an ecological representativeness index and two measures of functional connectivity over time for each network. Functional connectivity measures represented the overall access to the protected areas and the movement potential in them for the Atlantic-Gaspésie caribou. I used movement potential estimates for the current time period and for the future under different climate change scenarios to represent functional connectivity. The protected area network I proposed maximized the trade-off between the three network features I calculated. In this thesis I examined Atlantic-Gaspésie caribou movements under different environmental conditions, including climate change impacted landscapes. These results helped define new protected areas for the Gaspésie region that will protect the caribou population over time. I believe this thesis gives new insights on the Atlantic-Gaspésie caribou movement behavior, as well as on the management actions that could be taken in Gaspésie to improve conservation of caribou and of other species. I believe this methodology could be applied to other ecosystems with similar characteristics and needs.

Повний текст джерелаCombinatorial optimization problems have become the target of many scientific researches for their importance in solving academic problems and real problems encountered in the field of engineering and industry. Solving these problems by exact methods is often intractable because of the exorbitant time processing that these methods would require to reach the optimal solution(s). In this thesis, we were interested in the algorithmic context of solving combinatorial problems, and the modeling context of these problems. At the algorithmic level, we have explored the hybrid methods which excel in their ability to cooperate exact methods and approximate methods in order to produce rapidly solutions of best quality. At the modeling level, we worked on the specification and the exact resolution of complex problems in pattern set mining, in particular, by studying scaling issues in large databases. On the one hand, we proposed a first parallelization of the DGVNS algorithm, called CPDGVNS, which explores in parallel the different clusters of the tree decomposition by sharing the best overall solution on a master-worker model. Two other strategies, called RADGVNS and RSDGVNS, have been proposed which improve the frequency of exchanging intermediate solutions between the different processes. Experiments carried out on difficult combinatorial problems show the effectiveness of our parallel methods. On the other hand, we proposed a hybrid approach combining techniques of both Integer Linear Programming (ILP) and pattern mining. Our approach is comprehensive and takes advantage of the general ILP framework (by providing a high level of flexibility and expressiveness) and specialized heuristics for data mining (to improve computing time). In addition to the general framework for the pattern set mining, two problems were studied: conceptual clustering and the tiling problem. The experiments carried out showed the contribution of our proposition in relation to constraint-based approaches and specialized heuristics

Повний текст джерелаΣτόχος της παρούσας εργασίας είναι η θεωρητική και υπολογιστική μοντελοποίηση της αλληλεπίδρασης μεταξύ ενός Νευτώνειου ρευστού και ενός κυτταρικού βιολογικού υλικού το οποίο βρίσκεται προσκολημμένο στην επιφάνεια ενός αγγείου. Αρχικά παρουσιάζεται μια εκτεταμένη και περιεκτική ανασκόπηση των διαθέσιμων προσεγγίσεων για τη μοντελοποίηση της μεταφοράς ορμής σε κυτταρικά βιολογικά υλικά, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των προσεγγίσεων μιας κλίμακας και μιας φάσης, της θεωρίας ποροελαστικότητας του Biot, της θεωρίας αλληλεπιδρώντων συνεχών, των τεχνικών αλλαγής κλίμακας προς τα άνω, και τέλος, των υπολογιστικών τεχνικών πολλαπλών κλιμάκων χωρις τον ορισμό καταστατικών εξισώσεων. Στην συνέχεια, στο επίπεδο του κυτταρικού βιολογικού υλικού, αναπτύσεται ένα θεωρητικό μοντέλο για την περιγραφή της μεταφοράς ορμής εντός ενός ποροελαστικού υλικού, λαμβάνοντας υπόψη την αλληλεπίδραση μεταξύ του εξωκυτταρικού ρευστού και της στερεής μήτρας που αποτελείται από τα κύτταρα και το δίκτυο εξωκυτταρικών πολυμερών. Ως σημείο εκκίνησης στην μικρότερη κλίμακα παρατήρησης, χρησιμοποιείται μια περιγραφή της μεταφοράς ορμής που βασίζεται σε ένα συνεχές μοντέλο και έπειτα εφαρμόζεται η μέθοδος χωρικής στάθμισης μέσω συνάρτησης βάρους προκειμένου να εξαχθούν οι μερικές διαφορικές εξισώσεις που περιγράφουν την δυναμική της ροής του εξωκυτταρικού ρευστού και της παραμόρφωσης της στερεής μήτρας στην μακροσκοπική κλίμακα. Για την ειδική περίπτωση ενός ομογενούς μέσου και υπό την ισχύ ορισμένων πρόσθετων συνθηκών, οι εξαχθείσες εξισώσεις λαμβάνουν μορφή παρόμοια με αυτή των αντίστοιχων εξισώσεων οι οποίες ισχύουν στην θεωρία αλληλεπιδρώντων συνεχών καθώς και στην θεωρία ποροελαστικότητας του Biot. Στο επίπεδο του αγγείου, η συνεισφορά της παρούσας εργασίας λαμβάνει χώρα σε δύο άξονες. Κατά πρώτον, αναπτύσσεται ένα πρότυπο πρόβλημα το οποίο μπορεί να χρησιμεύσει για την επαλήθευση αριθμητικών μεθόδων που χρησιμοποιούνται για την επίλυση προβλημάτων στα οποία ενέχεται η αλληλεπίδραση ενός ρευστού με ένα ποροελαστικό υλικό. Συγκεκριμένα, εξάγεται μια αναλυτική λύση σε κλειστή μορφή για το πρόβλημα της επίπεδης ροής Couette-Poiseuille μέσα και γύρω από ένα ποροελαστικό στρώμα. Κατά δεύτερον, διεξάγεται μια υπολογιστική μελέτη της επίπεδης ροής Poiseuille μέσα και γύρω από ένα ημιελλειπτικό ποροελαστικό βιολογικό υλικό, το οποίο βρίσκεται προσκολημμένο στην επιφάνεια ενός ευθύγραμμου αγγείου. Στην περιοχή καθαρού ρευστού, η ροή περιγράφεται από τις εξισώσεις Navier-Stokes , ενώ η μεταφορά ορμής εντός του βιολογικού υλικού περιγράφεται με τις εξισώσεις που εξήχθησαν σε αυτή την εργασία μέσω της μεθόδου χωρικής στάθμισης. Η επίδραση των αριθμών Reynolds και Darcy, οι οποίοι χαρακτηρίζουν τη ροή γύρω και μέσα από το βιολογικό υλικό αντίστοιχα, διερευνάται για εμπόδια με διάφορες γωμετρικές διαμορφώσεις (ημικύκλιο, και ημιέλλειψη). Повний текст джерелаThis study aimed to determine whether a small suburban park, namely the Mont-Saint-Bruno National Park, managed to maintain the integrity of its flora over the last thirty years despite increasing human pressures and past natural disturbances, in addition to identify the main floristic changes during this period and the drivers of observed changes. To do so, a historical study was conducted by comparing past (1977) and recent (2013) floristic surveys. First, a striking increase in alpha diversity, driven mostly by native species and associated with a significant decline (30%) in the beta diversity over the last 35 years was found. Despite this taxonomic homogenization, the functional diversity of forest flora has increased, probably increasing its resistance to disruptive events. Furthermore, analyses revealed the progression of functional traits associated with overbrowsed forest habitats, revealing some influence of white-tailed deer on the composition and structure of the forest flora. Finally, my study also showed that herbarium specimens can be used as a reliable alternative to traditional methods to document and assess the impact of large herbivores on browsed plants morphology. In conclusion, this study showed that small suburban protected areas can play a major role in the preservation of the floristic diversity of rich forest habitats, particularly when their status strictly frames human activities.
