ORIGINS OF THE IDAW ALIThe Idaw ‘Ali are one of the two most prominent and influentialzuwaya groups in Mauritania, the other being the Kunta, disseminatorsof the Qadiriyya tariqa in West Africa who claim to be descendants ofthe great Arab hero and conqueror of North Africa, Uqba b. Nafi. Thebasis of the prestige of the Idaw ‘Ali rested in part on their widelyrecognized sharifian origin. Another basis of their prestige was theirintroduction of the Tijaniyya tariqa in Mauritania As descendants ofProphet Muhammed, the Idaw ‘Ali occupied a noble and privilegedposition in the society that placed them above the other zawaya and laygroups in Mauritania. The Idaw ‘Ali traditions, as reported by Sidi Abd-allah b. al-HajjIbrahim al-‘Alawi (d. 1818) in his treatise, “Sahihat al-Naql fi AlawiyatIdaw ‘Ali wa Bakriyat Muhammed Ghull” (The Authenticity of theDescee Idaw ‘Ali from Caliph ‘Ali and that of Muhammed Ghull fromCaliph ‘Abu Bakr al-Siddiq), state unequivocally that the Idaw ‘Alidescended from ‘Ali b. ‘Abu Talib (d. 661), son-in-law of the Prophet andfourth Caliph, through an eponymous ancestor ‘Ali b. Yahya. SidiAbdallah maintains that:. . .the Idawa ‘Ali are the descendants of ‘Ali b. Yahya and to bereckoned the progeny of ‘Ali b. ‘Abu Talib (May God bepleased with him). We know of no disagreement between thosewho are learned in that which has been handed down, bothwritten and spoken, and those who have been favored withspiritual illumination regarding it.This genealogy is said to have been examined and declared sound by SidiMukhtar al-Kunti, the founding father of the Qadiriyya-Mukhtariyyabrotherhood in West Africa. Furthermore, the author of “Sahihat al-Naql” adduced numerous quotations which he related to genealogistsand scholars of Mauritania and the Orient to prove the validity of theIdaw ‘Ali’s claim to shar(fian ancestry.Sidi Abdallah relates in “Sahihat al-Naql” that he was informed bySidi Ahmed al-Daymani, the famed scholar of the Awlad Daymanzawaya group, that the Idaw ‘Ali descended from the house of theProphet. According to al-Daymani, the Idaw ‘Ali. . .are the progeny of ‘Ali and.. . both their young and their oldcontinue to trace their lineage to him in spite of the paucity ofthat which God has allotted to them in support of their claim.Sidi Abdallah also relates that a member of the Idaw ‘Ali made thepilgrimage to Mecca where he met Sidi Ahmed al-Habib of the Idaw‘Ali. Sidi Ahmed is said to have told the pilgrim:If you are in straightened circumstances, then say-ohforefather, oh Messenger of God-for in truth you are hisdescendant. The pilgrim asked Sidi Ahmed how he acquired this informationconcerning the lineage of the Idaw ‘Ali, and Sidi Ahmed replied:I saw that in a book in Cairo, but if you return there, askSheikh al-Murtada about the lineage of the people of Shinqit.Sheikh al-Murtada is the saint of Egypt and its sun . . .On the pilgrim’s return journey he passed through Cairo and asked ...

The aim of this paper is to rethink the metaphors of the cinema as window and frame. The first one addresses the cinema as a transparent, open window that faithfully reproduces the world, taking the spectator’s view beyond the screen guided by realism and indexicality. The second one takes the screen as a rectangular surface that focuses the audience’s eye on the images that are produced inside its borders. In these pages I will revisit both notions, adding a third one inspired by the passe-partout of Derrida: the cinema as veil, also theorized as backdrop and decor. Ultimately, this approach explores the idea of simulacrum by analizing two examples: Blue (Apichatpong Weerasethakul, 2018) and Decor (Ahmad Abdalla, 2014).

Fatimid intellectual production contains some remarkable personal memoirsthat deserve a joint study. The Kitab al-MunaJ?arat (The Book of Discussions)by lbn al-Haytham is one example of this kind ofliterature. Abu 'AbdAllah Ja·far ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Aswad ibn al-Haytham wasa Qayrawani scholar of Sh􀁹 i persuasion when the Fatimid caliphate wasestablished in North Africa. In this Ki tab, he recorded his meetings and conversationswith the leaders of the Isma·ili da·wah (mission) in the firstmonths after the conquest ofQayrawan, from Rajab 296/March 909 until theappearance of the Imam al-Mahdi in Rabi' II 297/January 910.Although the existence of this work had been known for some time, itis only now that we have at our disposal the complete Arabic text, togetherwith an English translation, an introductory study, a bibliography and anindex. Paul E. Walker is mainly responsible for having realized the importanceoflbn al-Haytham's text. Both he and W. Abstract Background: NUT carcinoma (NC) is a rare cancer affecting midline structures and involving the lung, bones, and lymph nodes. Data on NC are limited mostly to case reports and case series. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were systematically searched for original articles describing confirmed NC patients. A quantitative individual patient data meta-analysis (IPD-MA) analyzing overall survival and risk factors for progression was performed for all NC patients with a clear age at diagnosis. Relevant patient characteristics and clinical parameters were compared in a multivariate Cox regression model. Findings: Out of 4,701 studies screened, 175 studies met the inclusion criteria for the systematic review. 117 (66.9%) were case reports. 284 patients were included in the IPD-MA. 139 (48.9%) patients were male, 145 (51.1%) underwent surgery, 156 (54.9%) received radiotherapy, and 173 (60.9%) developed metastasis. The mean age at diagnosis was 35.82±18.33 and the median OS was 9 months. 77 (27.1%) patients received platinum-based agents, 39 (13.7%) received taxanes, and 15 (5.3%) received BET inhibitors as part of their first-line regiment. Age at diagnosis, gender, and the aforementioned drugs did not significantly influence OS. Presence of metastasis was an independent predictor of poor survival, while radiotherapy and surgery were significantly associated with better survival (table 1). Interpretation: NC is associated with poor survival. Surgery and radiotherapy appear to be more effective treatment strategies, while medical modalities may not play a major role in the treatment of NC. AbstractIn his 1951's monograph, Anadolu Illeri Ağizlarmdan Derlemeler; Van, Bitlis, Muš, Karaköse, Eskisehir, Bolu ve Zonguldak Illeri Ağizlan, the well-known turcologist Ahmet Caferoglu published along with the dialectological material two lists of special vocabulary. The first one contains 71 entries, which belong to the Secret Language of a group called Abdallar living in Eskišehir and Düzce (Bolu). The second, containing 68 items, originates from the village Alaçam (also in Bolu province), recorded from the so-called Elekçiler ("sieve makers"). The ethnonyms Abdal and Elekçi indicate a Gypsy background of both groups. Indeed, checking the language material just superficially, the Abdal-list already displays its Gypsy character clearly. This, however, is not the case with the Elekçi-list! The great majority of its entries represent, from the etymological point of view, Armenian lexemes, although the speakers can hardly be Armenians by origin, but are likely a kind of Gypsies too. The local population of Bolu province considers them, together with the above-mentioned Abdallar and an other group, the Demirçiler ("smiths"), as Bolu çingeneleri ("the Bolu Gypsies"). The conclusion hereof is: these Elekçiler must belong to the Armenian Gypsies, the so-called Boşa. The present article deals primarily with the etymological description of the Elekçz-vocabulary. Additionally, several terms are discussed much deeper, particularly within the scope of their semantical counterparts in the idioms of other Boşa, Abdal and Gypsy groups in order to illustrate their lexical correspondences and, respectively, differences. It is interesting to note, that nothing seems to be known about the historical past of the Elekçi-group in Bolu province. Moreover, the phonetical characteristics of the Armenian vocabulary attested in the mentioned list are not homogeneous, showing no connection with any specific Armenian dialect. Possibly, this mixed character of the language may be seen as an indication that this people originated from several ethnical groups decending from places they visited in the course of their wandering life.

Abstract Background: The impact of obesity on the survival of patients with epithelial gynecological tumors is not yet clear. We aim to elucidate the impact of body mass index (BMI) on epithelial gynecological tumors in a large tertiary center at Saudi Arabia. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical files of all patients with pathologically confirmed epithelial gynecological tumors at our center. Then, we assessed the difference in overall survival (OS) according to primary tumor location, BMI, stage at presentation, and performance status (PS) at presentation using log-rank tests. Results: 400 patients were included in the analysis. The mean age at diagnosis was 56.1±13 years. 242 (60.5%) patients were diagnosed with uterine carcinomas, 137 (34.3%) with ovarian carcinomas, and 21 (5.3%) with cervical carcinomas. 278 (69.5%) patients were obese at presentation, 74 (18.5%) were overweight, 43 (10.8%) were within normal range, and 7 (1.8%) were underweight. The PS at presentation was 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 in 351 (87.8%), 17 (4.3%), 10 (2.5%), 16 (4%), and 6 (1.5%) patients, respectively. Cervical cancer was associated with long OS, while ovarian cancers demonstrated poor prognosis (p=0.0159). There was no difference in OS between different BMI groups (p=0.072). Patients with stage 4 cancers had significantly shorter OS (p<0.0001). Patients with PS 4 at presentation was associated with the worst prognosis (p<0.0001). Interpretation: Shorter OS was associated with ovarian carcinomas, advanced staging, and poor PS at presentation. BMI classification had no impact on OS. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings. Citation Format: Ahmed Badran, Mahmoud Elshenawy, Waleed Fallatah, Abdullaah K. Hinkston, Saad S. Ali, Mohammed Ali Omar, Abdulaziz M. This article examines the formation of science and scientific knowledge in the Muslim East in the early Middle Ages. During this period, the Muslim world was a center of intensive cultural development. Rich libraries, universities, and research centers were established where research was conducted in various fields of knowledge, including mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, medicine, and literature. The works of ancient Greek and other ancient thinkers were translated into Arabic and circulated in the Islamic world. This combination of knowledge from different cultures contributed to scientific and cultural progress. The article also examines the role of scientific centers that existed in Baghdad, Cordoba, Damascus, Alexandria, Samarkand and other cities, which not only provided translations and preservation of knowledge from different cultures, but also created conditions for intellectual exchange, contributing to the development of scientific research and spread of knowledge in the medieval Muslim world. They became platforms for intellectual enlightenment and preservation of the heritage of past civilizations. Muslim scholars actively worked in various fields of science, such as mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, medicine, chemistry, history, philology and others. It was the era of such great encyclopedist scientists, titans of thought, poets as Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi, Ahmad al-Farghoni, Imam al-Bukhari, Abu Yakub al-Kindi, Abu Bakr al-Razi, Abu Nasr al-Farabi, Abu Rayhan al-Beruni, Abu Ali ibn Sina, Mahmud al-Kashgari, Abu Ala'a al-Maari, Abu Abdallah ar-Rudaki, and others. The medieval Muslim East left a significant mark on the modern world. Many achievements of that time find their application in modern sciences and technologies. It also influenced the formation of worldview and cultural heritage. His scientific and philosophical principles contributed to the development of critical thinking, the search for truth, and mental development. The unique combination of religious and scientific foundations created a special approach to understanding the world and human existence. The overall contribution of the Muslim East to the development of science and scientific knowledge is of great importance for understanding the history of scientific progress.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to examine macroeconomic factors such as economic growth, inflation, money supply, unemployment rate, and world oil prices as moderating variables on the growth of corporate Islamic bonds (sukuk) in Indonesia. The method of analysis in this research was quantitative causality with an analytical approach. The analysis technique used was a moderation regression model. The sample in this study was the growth of corporate Islamic bonds (sukuk) for the last ten years, from 2013 to 2022, in monthly data. The results showed that the growth of Sukuk was partially affected by the variables of inflation, money supply, and unemployment. However, the GDP variable does not affect the growth of Sukuk. The moderating variable of world oil prices can moderate the variables of GDP, money supply, and unemployment rate on the growth of Sukuk, but does not moderate the variable of inflation on the growth of Sukuk. The results of this study can be used as an academic reference and information for issuers and potential investors in making investment decisions from macroeconomic factors that have been studied such as inflation, money supply, unemployment rate, and world oil prices. The study bears the title “Abdullah Muhammad Ahmad, the poet of contemporary writers, and the writer of poets of his time This paper aims to reveal the works of an eminent Sudanese literary figure and a scholar, namely Abdallah Muhammad Ahmad- may Allah bestow upon him everlasting health-” Abdallah is one of those writers who preferred to keep low profile and avoid publicity. The main goal of this paper is to unveil the unknown works of this well-read writer who drew upon Sudanese and Arabic literary and social heritage in his poetry and prose. Abdallah has a thorough knowledge and deep understanding about Arabic prosody. He proved to be talented since his early boyhood for he was famous for his great passion for Arabic literature and that enabled him to have an excellent command of Arabic language. He contributed enormously to Arabic literature in prose and poetry and his distinguished literary contributions put him in the vanguard of his peers. He composed exceptionally beautiful poems included in his anthology ‘The scent of memories” He also used literature as a tool to explore and combat difficult social issues in his book (insights on life and people.)” which is written in a figurative and impressive language. He drew upon the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophetic Tradition that influenced him greatly and enriched his writings with beautiful images and sublime language, simulating beautiful scenery paintings that captivate hearts and minds. Key words: contemporary – pioneers – Abdallah –literature – thought – culture.

Morphology, “sarf” as an Arabic term, is the science of generating another structure in a new or the same form with affixes and affixes that are suitable for the root, context of meaning, and targeted expression, and examining the formed structures. Since the Qurʾān is a book sent in Arabic for understanding, it is also within the scope of the study of Arabic linguistics and morphology. Exegetes and linguistics scholars mention morphology issues in their studies to understand and explain the Qurʾān. For this purpose, Abū Abdallah Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Qurtubī (d. 671/1273) wrote the interpretation " al-Jamī' li-'Aḥkām al-Qurʾān". One of the general features of the tafsīr is that there are primarily philological explanations when explaining almost every ayah. Like other commentators, he also includes morphology in his tafsīr to understand/explain the Qurʾān. While making morphological analyzes of the words, he states their features. In addition, it sometimes explains some details and exceptional situations. He tries to explain the morphological characteristics and the meanings of the words. The remarkable point is that the exegete also uses the rules of morphology to reach or explain the meanings, even though those rules can not give the meaning within a superficial level. Qurtubī's effort is based on the characteristics of the wording, the differences in the recitation, the context, excessiveness (zaeed), reduction, etc., shown by reasons. This study is based on his evaluations of some subjects of morphology by scanning the information he gave to understand. Considering that the study is a presentation and has a time limitation, topics are limited to singular-dual-plural, masculinity-femininity, and definite-indefinite. Interpretations were scanned about the mentioned issues. By choosing some examples, the subject was explained, and comparisons were made with the evaluation. The samples were examined in depth, and the matter was conveyed on a meaning-oriented base. * This study was produced from the Ph.D. dissertation: Philological analysis of Al-Jamī li Ahkam al-Qurʾān (İzmir: Dokuz Eylul University, Ph.D. Thesis, 2020)
