The article represents research and work-out results in the field of applied agent-based decision support system development for regional security management. General problem statement of the regional security management information support is carried out. Modeling and automation tools of security manager activities within the region safeguarding process, interacting in the unified information environment, are proposed. A multi-agent technology for network-centric control information support of regional security has been developed. The technology is based on agent-oriented and system dynamics methodologies integration and use hybrid smart agents with integrated simulation toolkit.

Business collaborations have gained prominence in many domains mediated by information technology platforms. These collaborations, normally referred to as virtual enterprises (VEs) consider varying core competencies of participants. The VEs' dynamic nature requires participants to be dynamically selected and engaged. This requires a flexible systematic approach, lacking in existing literature, to handle varying forms of VEs. This study aims to consider a VE from an enterprise integration viewpoint and to develop an agent-based model that supports the VE's formation and operation phases. This model will provide support to business managers in making decisions efficiently by delegating part of the processes to software agents. An agent-based VE (ABVE) model prototype is developed. Case studies from various domains are used in the demonstration of the model's applicability and possible generalization. After evaluation it is shown that users are motivated to use the model as an effective tool for VE formation and collaborations in diverse domains with an 88.86% acceptance rate.

Context. The article proposes a latent-semantic technology for extracting information from Internet resources, which allows processing information in natural language, as well as a multi-agent search algorithm based on it. The relevance of this approach to the search for subject-oriented information determined by the fact that currently a direct lexical comparison of queries with document indexes does not fully satisfy the developer. The object of the study is a multi-agent latent-semantic algorithm for searching for subject-oriented information. Objective. The work is to increase the efficiency of forming a knowledge model that is adequate for this subject area. Method. A latent semantic technology based on the weighted descriptor method developed by the authors is proposed. The main difference from the existing methods is that the analysis of words occurring in the text both in frequency and taking into account semantics carried out by selecting the appropriate descriptors, which improves the quality of the information found. Results. The developed latent-semantic technology of information search tested in the task of constructing a knowledge model of automated decision support systems for operational and dispatching control of urban engineering networks. The conducted modeling of the search for subject-oriented information in this subject area showed the effectiveness of the developed approach. Conclusions. Improving the efficiency of search and semantic content of subject-oriented information of the knowledge model of this subject area achieved by using the weighted descriptor method based on Zipf’s laws in this technology. The prospects for further research are to build evolutionary models of knowledge and improve the quality of updated information.

Purpose This paper aims to empirically investigate the influence of the intelligent agent technology (IAT) on hotels’ food procurement practices (FPPRs) and food procurement performance (FPP). The study also explores the influence of FPPR on FPP in hotels. Design/methodology/approach Data from a survey of managers at luxury hotels in Florida, which yielded an effective sample of 78, were subjected to partial least squares structural equation modeling analysis. Findings IAT usage has statistically significant positive effect on both FPPR and FPP. Additionally, the results indicated that PPR has a positive influence on FPP. Research limitations/implications The study provided academia with a comprehensive review of the prior research on IAT benefits in food supply chain management (FSCM) and a comprehensive explanation of how the hotel FPPR are being performed by IAT. It also offers industry and technology specific insights. Practical implications Hotel managers should pay more attention to IAT application regarding the FPPR, specifically gathering information, supplier contract, contacting, requisitioning and intelligence and analysis. Moreover, hotel managers should enhance their employees’ abilities to be technology-oriented to maximize IAT benefits in FPP. Originality/value The results represent an extension to the technological innovation literature of the hospitality industry to bridge the gap of IAT in hotel FP. The framework used in the study serves as a foundation for future research studies in the hospitality industry, in FSCM in particular.

A mobile agent is a representative that is often treated as moving object developed using any object oriented programming language. Using a WFMS is an emerging current trend in modeling, research methodologies and implementing the information/data flow and various related business processes within an organization. Work is often credited as a task, information, a document, data, announcements or a job that passes through different nodes within an organization. The integration of WFMS involves the automation of various processes such as tasks, documents, processed data, and information or rules to accomplish a task. This automation within the technology can be achieved by integration of agent based technology that makes use of Mobile Agent Paradigm. This paper briefs about various features, benefits and role mobile agents in Workflow management system. This also highlights how the implementation of MAWFMS can smoothen and simplifies the workflow managements in multifarious event based environments.

Present accounting data models such as the Resource-Event-Agent (REA) model merely focus on the modeling of static accounting phenomena. In this paper, it is argued that these models are not able to provide relevant ex ante accounting data for operations management decisions. These decisions require dynamic descriptions of the consequences of alternative future courses of actions and the resulting events. Therefore, a new object-oriented model is presented that enables the use of ex ante accounting data for this purpose. In comparison to the REA model, the object-oriented model presented in this paper includes new static aspects as “recipes,” “potential contracts,” and “reservations,” together with behavioral aspects expressed as theoretical scripts for the retrieval of relevant accounting data.

ABSTRACTArchaeologists are using spatial data in increasingly sophisticated analyses and invoking more explicit considerations of space in their interpretations. Geographic information systems (GIS) have become standard technology for professional archaeologists in the collection and management of spatial data. Many calls have been made to develop and adapt digital geospatial technologies for interpretation and understanding past social dynamics, but this has been limited to some extent by the static nature of map-oriented GIS approaches. Here, we illustrate how coupling GIS with agent-based modeling (ABM) can assist with more dynamic explorations of past uses of space and geospatial phenomena.

У дисертаційній роботі розв’язана актуальна науково-прикладна задача автоматизації оцінювання початкових етапів життєвого циклу програмного забезпечення шляхом розроблення агентно-орієнтованої інформаційної технології (АОІТ) на основі онтологічного підходу, яка забезпечує: автоматизацію трудомісткого, рутинного та схильного до помилок завдання розбору специфікацій вимог та майже миттєве його виконання; підказку, де потрібна повторна робота над специфікацією вимог (користувач може переглядати відсутні атрибути та бачити області специфікації, яким потрібна додаткова увага, а також які вимоги потребують переробки); забезпечення навчання для нових розробників специфікацій, системних інженерів та менеджерів проєктів (використання цієї AOIT допомагає їм побачити помилки, які вони можуть допускати, та допомагає їм розпізнати ці помилки в роботі інших); допомогу в розробці вимог високої якості; допомогу у виправленні та усуненні помилок у вимогах там, де вони виникають – на ранніх етапах життєвого циклу програмного забезпечення – до того, як вони стануть дорожчими для виправлення; надання інструменту для вибору більш якісних специфікацій програмних вимог; безкоштовний доступ через Інтернет в будь-який час без будь-якої реєстрації.
The dissertation solves the current scientific and applied problem of automating the assessment of the initial stages of the software life cycle by developing agentoriented information technology based on an ontological approach, which provides: automation of time-consuming, routine and error-prone task analysis requirements and its almost instantaneous implementation; a hint where the requirements specification needs rework (the user can view the missing attributes and see the areas of the specification that need extra attention, as well as which requirements need to be reworked); providing training for new specification developers, systems engineers, and project managers (using this AOIT helps them to see the mistakes they may make and helps them to recognize these mistakes in the work of others); assistance in developing high quality requirements; assistance in correcting requirements errors where they occur – in the early stages of the software life cycle - before they become more expensive to correct; providing a tool for selecting better specifications of software requirements; free internet access at any time without any registration.

Since the AAAI (http://www.aaai.org) Spring Symposium in 1994, intelligent software agents and agentbased systems became one of the most significant and exciting areas of research and development (R&D) that inspired many scientific and commercial projects. In a nutshell, an agent is a computer program that is capable of performing a flexible, autonomous action in typically dynamic and unpredictable domains (Luck, McBurney, Shehory, & Willmott, 2005). Agents emerged as a response of the IT research community to the new data-processing requirements that traditional computing models and paradigms were increasingly incapable to deal with (e.g., the huge and ever-increasing quantities of available data). Agent-oriented R&D has its roots in different disciplines. Undoubtedly, the main contribution to the field of autonomous agents came from artificial intelligence (AI) which is focused on building intelligent artifacts; and if these artifacts sense and act in some environment, then they can be considered agents (Russell & Norvig, 1995). Also, object-oriented programming (Booch, 2004), concurrent object-based systems (Agha, Wegner, & Yonezawa, 1993), and human-computer interaction (Maes, 1994) are fields that have constantly driven forward the agent R&D in the last few decades.

Cloud computing has recently received considerable attention, as a promising approach for delivering Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) services as a utility. In the process of providing these services it is necessary to improve the utilization of data centre resources which are operating in most dynamic workload environments. Datacenters are integral parts of cloud computing. In the datacenter generally hundreds and thousands of virtual servers run at any instance of time, hosting many tasks and at the same time the cloud system keeps receiving the batches of task requests. It provides services and computing through the networks. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and agent frameworks renders tools for developing distributed and multi agent systems which can be used for the administration of cloud computing environments which supports the above characteristics. This paper presents a SOQM (Service Oriented QoS Assured and Multi Agent Cloud Computing) architecture which supports QoS assured cloud service provision and request. Biomedical and geospatial data on cloud can be analyzed through SOQM and has allowed the efficient management of the allocation of resources to the different system agents. It has proposed a finite heterogeneous multiple vm model which are dynamically allocated depending on the request from biomedical and geospatial stakeholders.

The main purpose of this study is to describe and analyze an agent from a distributed multi-agent based system (ABS) according to the BDI architecture. This agent is capable of autonomous action to propose general technology strategies (TSs) in renewable energy SMEs based on a set of rules and interacts with a core agent in multi ABS. The recognition of internal strengths and weaknesses as well as external opportunities and threats takes place on the basis of technological SWOT-analysis. Proposed TSs are categorized into four types: aggressive strategy, turnaround oriented strategy, diversification strategy, and defensive strategy. Agent architecture in terms of three abstraction layers called psychological, theoretical, and implementation is explained. And after system validation by experts, some program codes and output results of this agent are presented. This system provides information to facilitate the TS planning process to be carried out effectively.

The aim of this chapter is to showcase the potential of new, Cloud-based, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platforms for transport logistics chain management. The related literature is analysed from five perspectives. First, by examining supply chain issues relating to integration of core processes across organizational boundaries, through improved communication, partnerships, and cooperation. Second, from a strategy and planning perspective, by examining supply chain management as an IT platform dependent business practice. Third, by considering implementation issues using agent, as well as Web service technologies. Fourth, by considering the impact of new trends in service computing built around technologies, such as Semantic Web services and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), on transport logistics. Finally, the chapter proposes a Cloud-based SOA software platform as an enabler for lowering transaction costs and enhancing business opportunities through service virtualization in shipping transport logistics. The operational aspects of shipping transport logistics management are illustrated using a business case that shows the opportunities for increased collaboration through Cloud-based virtualized services.

This paper focuses on simulating environmental impacts on grapevine behavioral dynamics and vineyard management strategies. The methodology presented uses technology from geomatics object oriented databases and spatio-temporal data models. Our approach has two principle objectives, first, to simulate grapevine phenology and grape ripening under spatial and temporal environmental conditions and constraints and secondly, to simulate viticultural practices and adaptation strategies under various constraints (environmental, economical, socio-technical). The approach is based on a responsive agent-based structure where environmental conditions and constraints are considered as a set of forcing data (biophysical, socio-economic and regulatory data) that influences the modelled activities. The experiment was conducted in the regulated wine producing appellation Grand Cru “Quarts de Chaume”, situated in the middle Loire Valley, France. All of the methodology, from the implementation of the knowledge database to the analysis of the first simulation, is presented in this paper.

As software becomes more and more entrenched in everyday life in today’s society, security looms large as an unsolved problem. Despite advances in security mecha-nisms and technologies, most software systems in the world remain precarious and vulnerable. There is now widespread recognition that security cannot be achieved by technology alone. All software systems are ultimately embedded in some human social environment. The effectiveness of the system depends very much on the forces in that environment. Yet there are few systematic techniques for treating the social context of security together with technical system design in an integral way. In this chapter, we argue that a social ontology at the core of a requirements engineering process can be the basis for integrating security into a requirements driven software engineering process. We describe the i* agent-oriented modelling framework and show how it can be used to model and reason about security concerns and responses. A smart card example is used to illustrate. Future directions for a social paradigm for security and software engineering are discussed.
