Повний текст джерелаThis thesis examines three important issues in the air transport industry. The first chapter deals with the structural impacts and policy changes on the airline industry. A structural econometric model is used to analyse the extent to which the air traffic is affected by an increase in fuel prices and the proposal of the European Commission on the accession of air transport to the European Emission Trading Scheme (EU-ETS). An increase in energy costs implies an increase of air fares and a dec1ine in the levels of traffic. The EU-ETS could indeed significantly affect the level of aviation emissions while he should not radically change the competitiveness of European airlines. The second chapter analyzes the model of case of the airport in the framework of two-sided market. The airports of our database are not internalize externalities exist between the two parties. They use different price setting strategies for each side. We find the empirical evidence of profit maximization pricing for the passengers and the Ramsey prices for the airlines. The third chapter focuses on code sharing between airlines by a structural econometric model. The prices increase and the dec1ine in the consumer surplus after code sharing if it does not encourage the entry ofnew products. The parameter for the division of profits between partner airlines in a code-share agreement is estimated 91 percent mean that the operating carrier receives 91 percent of the profits of the sharing of the product code

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis examines economic and behavioral tools to reduce CO2 emissions from air transport. It is structured into three chapters, each addressing a specific aspect: the impact of taxes on airline tickets, the effect of framing CO2 emissions, and the influence of social signals on the choice between air and rail travel. The first chapter analyzes the effect of passenger taxes on airline tickets in Europe between 2001 and 2019, while accounting for the impact of high-speed rail (HSR). Using a difference-in-differences method applied to air routes between cities, the study estimates the effect of these taxes on air traffic. The results show that a one-euro increase in taxes leads to a 1% decrease in air traffic, while each kilometer of HSR reduces competing air traffic by 0.24%. Over the studied period, passenger taxes contributed to a 3% reduction in aviation-related CO2 emissions, while HSR contributed to a 0.4% reduction. This analysis highlights the combined effect of taxes and investments in rail infrastructure in reducing air traffic emissions. The second chapter explores how framing CO2 emissions can encourage more environmentally friendly transportation choices. A discrete choice experiment evaluates whether a gain-framed message (highlighting the positive impact of reducing emissions) or a loss framed information can steer behaviors toward lower-emissionchoices. The third chapter examines the impact of two incentives: descriptive information on the CO2 emissions of airplanes and a social signal regarding the share of train users compared to air travel. A discrete choice experiment analyzes how these tools influence the choice between flying and taking the train. The social signal, showing a high modal share of train users, has a significant impact, equivalent to a 20% reduction in the price of train tickets. Information on CO2 emissions has an effect equivalent to a 5% price reduction. When combined, these signals show a greater overall effect than their individual impacts. This work underlines the effectiveness of social signals in guiding transport behaviors. It offers concrete policy implications, suggesting the combined use of incentives to maximize their effectiveness without diminishing returns. Thus, this thesis provides empirical evidence on the impact of CO2 emission reduction policies in the air transport sector. It demonstrates that passenger taxes, investments in rail infrastructure, loss-framed information on CO2 emissions, and social signals can contribute to significant behavioral changes, offering insights for effective policy interventions that combine complementary instruments

Повний текст джерелаOver the past 30 years, there has been a significant increase in the air transportation demand and supply. While the fundamental importance of this mode of transport, for modern societies and economies, are generally recognized, it attracts increasing attention from the political class, because of the negative side effects to which it leads. Indeed, air transports cause also negative environmental externalities, in particular noise pollution, which should be evaluated in order to implement corrective policies (taxes, compensation, etc.).In this context, the depreciation of property values and the risk of social segregation caused by aircraft noise have a growing role in the discussions, which are among the major concerns with the health issues of local residents. For several years now, many studies have been conducted in these areas, abroad. Currently, however, studies are still rare in France. Therefore, this thesis aims to: a) analyze and measure the impact of airport platforms on property values and identify the influential variables (aircraft noise, distance to the airport, etc.), analyze possible social inequality in relation to exposure to aircraft noise, c) provide an operational and sustainable decision support tool by setting up an observatory. To address these objectives, a multidisciplinary methodology combining economic (hedonic price method) and geographic (GIS) expertise has been developed. The main originality of this thesis lies in its comparative approach on a national level, highlighting the specificities of the different territories studied. The territories studied cover all communes located in or close to the noise zones (noise exposure map “Plan d'Exposition au Bruit (PEB)”) of each airport concerned. The airports studied concern both Paris airports (Paris- CDG and Paris-Orly), as well as those of provinces (Lyon Saint-Exupery and Toulouse-Blagnac)
