Повний текст джерелаConsidering climate issues in an early phase of urban design requires design tools that are easy to use, quick to execute, and in line with the iterative process of designing. This thesis aims to create a simple tool to be used during the urban design phase to predict wind flows on a local scale and at the pedestrian level, based on urban morphological characteristics. This reading occurs through the construction of an urban vacuum skeleton. The skeleton then carries information to document the different urban components and their morphological characteristics at different levels. The dynamic approach to cross the urban vacuum is also a field-oriented analytical approach to capture and measure the urban space at the level of a set of punctual virtual sensors whose skeleton is sampled. Demonstrating the efficiency of the tools and methods proposed was adapted to three types of applications. The first is a production of profiles of morphological signatures of neighborhoods. The second is a detection of the different areas of the urban void (streets, crossroads, squares...). The third shows the skeleton’s ability to provide information to learn about wind distribution in the city

The objective of this thesis was to develop a method to measure on site, the speed of indoor air flows over large areas of observation (greater than a square meter). To this end, we turned to image-based techniques that consist in following the movement of passive tracers introduced into the air to infer an estimate of its velocity. This kind of method is already widely used in research laboratories to study flows in well-controlled contexts. However, the transition to on-site measurement and wide field of interest requires some adaptations. These adaptations concern, in particular, the choice of new tracers, the lighting system as well as the motion estimation method from image sequences. First, we developed a motion estimation algorithm that allows the estimation of large-scale velocities from particle images and scalar images. We then tested in our wind tunnel, on mixing layer and cylinder wake flows, a large-scale image-based measurement method using only one camera, a LED lighting system, bubbles or smoke tracers as well as the algorithm mentioned above. We compared the obtained measurement with a measurement carried out by hot-wire anemometry. The results of this measurement campaign showed the ability of the method to measure the main characteristics of the considered flows. Finally, we applied the developed method to an on-site measurement of the suction flow of a laboratory fume hood under real operating conditions. This measure has made it possible to highlight areas of high turbulence and recirculation, causing potential leakages

Повний текст джерелаThis thesis presents the CFD modelling of human cutaneous thermal behaviour in whole-body cryotherapy (WBC), a cold treatment that involves exposing the entire body to very low temperatures (-110°C) for 3 to 4 minutes. The objective is to optimize cryotherapy protocols that are specific and tailored to everyone. Experimental approaches (cutaneoustemperature mapping by infrared thermography) and measurements of actual temperatures in the main cryotherapy chamber are carried out to provide input boundary conditions for simulations, on the one hand, and to validate numerical results on the other hand. A mathematical model has been developed to predict the cooling of skin temperature in different body areas during a whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) session for various populations and morphotypes.Numerical simulations were conducted to determine the thermo-aerodynamic behaviour of both the empty and occupied cryotherapy chamber. These simulations revealed that the presence of a person disrupts the thermal and airflow fields within the chamber during the WBC session, leading to an increase in chamber temperature due to heat dissipation bythe person. This phenomenon becomes more pronounced as the number of subjects increases. Further simulations were carried out to investigate the cutaneous cooling kinetics for different morphotypes during WBC sessions. The numericalmodels were validated against experimental results, demonstrating a good agreement between the two results

Повний текст джерелаThe dispersion of highly pathogenic biological agents in an urbanized area following a terrorist act is one of the situations that national security agencies need to evaluate in terms of risk assessment and decision-making. The numerical simulation of turbulent flows in urban areas, including monitoring the dispersion of pollutants, has reached a sufficient level of maturity to make predictions on realistic urban zones up to 4 square kilometers. However, the existing simulations are deterministic in the sense that all the parameters that define the case studied (intensity and wind direction, atmospheric stratification, source of emissions location, quantity of injected toxic agent, etc.) should be well known. Such precision cannot be achieved in practice due to a lack of knowledge about the source of emission and the intrinsic aleatoric uncertainty of the meteorological conditions. To significantly increase the contribution of numerical simulation for risk assessment and decision-making, it is essential to quantitatively measure the impact of a lack of knowledge especially in terms of spatial and temporal resolution of the danger zones. The object of this thesis is to apply uncertainty quantification methods to quantify the impact of these uncertainties in the evaluation of the danger zones in medium range toxic gas dispersion scenarios. A hybrid method merging c-ANOVA and POD/Kriging allows to consider up to 5 uncertain parameters in a high-fidelity unsteady 3D-CFD simulation of the dispersion of a toxic gas from a pond-like source in an urban area of 1km2
