Abstract Abstract 195 GEP analysis is a robust method to distinguish low- and high-risk multiple myeloma (MM), pertaining to 85% and 15% of newly diagnosed patients, respectively (Shaughnessy et al., Blood, 2007; 109:2276–84). As developed in TT2 and validated in TT3A and TT3B, we are now examining, similar to previous work in high-risk MM, whether we can define outliers among low-risk MM, i.e., patients not living up to the low-risk prediction model. Toward this end, we scrutinized early relapses in TT3A and TT3B within three years of protocol entry. Using logistic regression analysis, we identified baseline parameters including GEP, en route for distinguishing this high-risk subset among low-risk MM. Also examined was whether a new model could be built within low-risk disease that allowed for the identification of a high-risk subset. Our database was interrogated for patients known to have GEP-defined low-risk in the GEP-70 model. Table 1 summarizes the 3-year events among GEP-70 low-risk subjects per protocol. An optimal cut-point at +0.146 distinguished, among the combined TT2 and TT3 patients, inferior progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) (Figure 1a). Next, we examined outcomes among all TT2 and TT3 patients with GEP data, including those with traditionally-defined high-risk (>=0.66). Here, we were able to distinguish three subgroups with distinctly different PFS and OS (Figure 1b). Utilizing logistic regression analysis, limited to traditionally-defined GEP-70 low-risk MM (=<0.66), three-year progression events during the this period were adversely dominated by the following: GEP-70 scores >0.146 (HR=2.61, p=0.0005), the presence of cytogenetic abnormalities (CA) (HR=1.93, p=0.018), B2M >5.5mg/L (HR=1.95, p=0.04) and LDH >190U/L (HR=1.93, 0.02). These are all reported in Table 2. In conclusion, we have identified, within GEP-70 low-risk patients, a new cut-point. This allows a better categorization of patients having truly low risk disease. Also, above which a prognosis intermediate to the traditional high-risk prognostic group (>=0.66) could be identified. GEP >0.146 dominated a multivariate logistic regression model. Further efforts will be presented on unique genes characterizing this intermediate risk group in relationship to low and high-risk subsets. Table 1. El FMLN con mucha dificultad podía invertir este eslogan a su favor, sin cambiar las palabras de la expresión propagandística de ARENA. Pero es que, con seguridad, el FMLN no pretendía ganar con la denigración de otros, sino con la aclaración de su propuesta política. No así el partido de gobierno que, al establecer hacia dónde se dirigía, aprovechó para delinear el rumbo de "El cambio es hoy". AbstractObjectivePinterest (San Francisco, CA) and Instagram (Menlo Park, CA) are 2 popular photo-sharing social media platforms among young individuals. We assessed differences between Instagram and Pinterest in relaying photographic information regarding Zika virus. Specifically, we investigated whether the percentage of Zika-virus-related photos with Spanish or Portuguese texts embedded therein was higher for Instagram than for Pinterest and whether the contents of Zika-virus-related photos shared on Pinterest were different from those shared on Instagram.MethodsWe retrieved and manually coded 616 Pinterest (key words: “zika” AND “virus”) and 616 Instagram (hashtag: #zikavirus) photos.ResultsAmong the manually coded samples, 47% (290/616) of Pinterest photos and 23% (144/616) of Instagram photos were relevant to Zika virus. Words were embedded in 57% (164/290) of relevant Pinterest photos and all 144 relevant Instagram photos. Among the photos with embedded words, photos in Spanish or Portuguese were more prevalent on Instagram (77/144, 53%) than on Pinterest (14/164, 9%). There were more Zika-virus-related photos on Instagram than on Pinterest pertinent to Zika virus prevention (59/144, 41%, versus 41/290, 14%; P<0.0001), the effects of Zika virus on pregnancy (27/144, 19%, versus 32/290, 11%; P=0.04), and Zika-virus-associated deaths (4/144, 2%, versus 0/290, 0%; P=0.01).ConclusionsPinterest and Instagram are similar platforms for Zika virus prevention communication. Abstract. Black carbon (BC), from incomplete combustion of fuels and biomass, has been considered highly recalcitrant and a substantial sink for carbon dioxide. Recent studies have shown that BC can be degraded. We use soils sampled 100 years apart in a Russian steppe preserve to generate the first whole-profile estimate of BC stocks and turnover in the field. BC stocks (initially 2.5 kg m-2) decreased 25% with cessation of biomass burning. BC turnover in the soil was 293 y (best estimate; range 212–541 y), much faster than inert/passive carbon in soil models. Such results provide a new constraint on theories of soil carbon stabilization. Most importantly, BC cannot be assumed chemically recalcitrant in all soils; other explanations for very old soil carbon are needed.

290 Background: The study evaluated safety and efficacy of CBZ in Japanese patients (pts) with CRPC in real world settings. Methods: This prospective, observational study targeted all CRPC pts receiving CBZ in daily practice between September 2014 and June 2015. Observation period was 1 year after first dose of CBZ given. Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) were evaluated for safety by CTCAE 4.0. Overall survival (OS), time to treatment failure (TTF) and prostate specific antigen (PSA) response rate (≥30% PSA decrease) were the efficacy endpoints. Two groups, those given 25mg/m2 of CBZ as initial dose (C25) and those given 20mg/m2 of CBZ (C20), were comparatively analyzed. This study was supported by Sanofi. Results: Of 662 enrolled pts with CRPC treated with CBZ, 660 pts were analyzed. ADRs occurred in 511 pts (77.4%). Most frequent all grade ADRs were neutropenia (49.2%), febrile neutropenia (18.0%) and anemia (14.2%). Median OS and TTF were 319 and 116 days, respectively. Of 540 PSA evaluable pts, 158 (29.3%) achieved PSA response. Populations for post hoc analysis were 159 pts for C25 and 190 pts for C20. Patient characteristics were similar C25 and C20 groups. Statistical significant differences were observed between C25 and C20 groups for OS (Hazzard Ratio [HR] = 0.71) and TTF (HR = 0.78) in favor of C25 group. Initial dose of CBZ remained as the independent prognostic factor for OS and TTF in univariate and multivariate analysis. There was no significant difference for PSA response rate. ≥ Grade 3 ADRs with C25 and C20 occurred in 129 pts (81.1%) and 116 pts (61.1%), respectively. Conclusions: Safety profile of CBZ was generally consistent with clinical studies conducted before approval in Japan. Although there are some limitations of studies done in real world settings, there were significant differences for OS and TTF between C25 and C20. Less ADRs occurred with C20. [Table: see text]

Abstract Human protein S (HPS), a regulator of hemostasis, is a vitamin K- dependent plasma protein with potential clinical utility. We have obtained high-level expression of the cDNA for HPS in two mammalian cell lines. Both cell lines secreted single chain recombinant HPS (rHPS) in serum-free medium as determined by Western blot analysis. The ability of the rHPS from both cell lines to act as a cofactor for human protein C (HPC) was determined; the rHPS secreted from the human 293 cell line had an activity six times that of the rHPS from the AV12–664 Syrian hamster cell line. Furthermore, the relative specific cofactor activity of rHPS from the 293 cell line was actually 2.5-fold higher than that of single-chain human plasma-derived HPS. Essentially all of the rHPS secreted from the 293 cell line exhibited a calcium-dependent elution profile on anion exchange chromatography, whereas only 25% to 35% of the hamster cell-derived rHPS exhibited this profile. However, the calcium-eluted rHPS from the AV12 cell line had a high specific cofactor activity, equivalent to that of the 293-derived rHPS. A NaCl- elutable rHPS fraction (calcium nondependent) was isolated from the recombinant AV12–664 cell line, further purified, and found to have reduced activity, only 40% that of the calcium-dependent rHPS. The only observable difference in the calcium-dependent and nondependent rHPS molecules was in the content of gamma-carboxyglutamic acid (Gla); the calcium-dependent material contained approximately 10 mol Gla/mol protein whereas the calcium-nondependent material contained only approximately 8 mol Gla/mol of protein. In addition, the calcium- nondependent rHPS had reduced ability to interact with phospholipid vesicles as evidenced by an eightfold increase in the apparent kd. Our data demonstrate the isolation of rHPS with high specific activity, and show that a reduction in as few as two Gla residues dramatically decreases its functional cofactor activity for HPC, due to a reduction in ability to interact with the phospholipid bilayer.

These results supplement previously obtained data, notably the protein sequence derived from cDNA sequencing of pro-C4 (Belt KT, Carroll MC & Porter RR (1984) Cell36, 907–914) and the N-terminal sequences of the three polypeptides (Gigli I, von Zabern I & Porter RR (1977) Biochem. J.165, 439–446), to define the complete primary structure of the plasma form of C4. The β (656 residues), α (748 residues), and γ (291 residues) chains are found in positions 1–656, 661–1408, and 1435–1725 in the pro-C4 molecule.

Las elecciones presidenciales de 2004 serán recordadas no solo por el aumento en la participación electoral o por la virulenta propaganda que llevaron a cabo los principales partidos contendientes, sino porque en este proceso electoral tomaron parte, de manera protagónica, además de los candidatos y partidos políticos, los medios de comunicación y las organizaciones que realizan encuestas. Una tríada que podría llegar a autoconcebirse como la santísima trinidad de la nueva forma de hacer política. Sin embargo, puede resultar altamente probable queel recuerdo se deba a las consecuencias no deseadas que el resultado electoral está provocando. La oleada de electores alcanzó el nivel de maremoto. El sistema de partidos ha recibido el impacto. La expansión sistémica de esta ola electoral comienza a percibirse en el desbordamiento institucional del descontento de los sectores sociales y políticos, que se sienten frustrados por el resultado de las elecciones. Si parte de la campaña propagandística de ARENA insistía en que un triunfo del FMLN podía significar inestabilidad, lo paradójico resulta que ha sido más bien el triunfo del primero el que está awnentando el déficit de gobernabilidad y las probabilidades de mayor inestabilidad. Aims: This study was done to find out the incidence and outcome of caesarean sections done at Kirtipur Hospital. Methods: This was a retrospective study conducted from 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2013. Case files of 660 patients who underwent caesarean section for various indications were analyzed for incidence, indication of caesarean section, booking status, parity, and maternal and fetal outcomes. Results: Out of 1295 deliveries, 50.9% (n=660) had caesarean section. Most of the caesarean section was done for fetal distress (40.2%; n=265) and on account of previous history of caesarean section (13.5%; n=89). Majority of caesarean section (44.4%, n=293) was done in age group of 25-29 years. Among them, 65.9% (n=435) were nulliparous. There were 35.3% (n=563) booked cases. Emergency caesarean sections were performed in 62.4% (n=412) cases. Maternal morbidity was less (7.2%, n=48). Conclusions: The study showed high rate of caesarean section. Tutkimuksella haluttiin selvittää liharotuisten nautojen kasvu- ja teurasominaisuuksia. Tutkimusaineistona oli teurastamoilta saatu naudan ruhojen teurasaineisto, johon yhdistettiin ProAgria Maatalouden Laskentakeskuksen kautta saadut rotutiedot. Teurastamoaineistoa oli käytössä HK Agri Oy:ltä ja Snellman Lihanjalostus Oy:ltä vuodesta 2007 lähtien, A-Tuottajat Oy:ltä vuodesta 2008 lähtien ja Saarioinen Lihanjalostus Oy:ltä vuodesta 2010 lähtien. Hiehojen osalta alle 300 ja yli 550 vrk:n ikäiset eläimet jätettiin datasta pois. Vastaavasti sonnien osalta alle 365 ja yli 660 vrk:n ikäiset eläimet jätettiin datasta pois. Tutkimuksessa vertailtavia rotuja olivat aberdeen angus (ab), hereford (hf), li-mousin (li), charolais (ch), simmental (si) ja blonde d’Aquitaine (ba). Eläimen katsottiin edustavan kyseistä rotua, jos sen molemmat vanhemmat olivat ProAgria Maatalouden Laskentakeskuksen aineis-tossa luokiteltu ao. rodun edustajiksi. Näiden rajausten jälkeen tutkimusaineisto sisälsi 21 643 teurastettua liharotuista sonnia ja 8 743 liharotuista teurashiehoa. Roduittain ja sukupuolittain lopullinen aineisto muodostui seuraavasti: ab 4 068 sonnia, 1 692 hiehoa; hf 6 323 sonnia, 2 385 hiehoa; li 4 335 sonnia, 1 951 hiehoa; ch 4 421 sonnia, 1 794 hiehoa; si 2 152 sonnia, 774 hiehoa; ba 344 sonnia, 147 hiehoa. Sonnien kasvatusaika (vrk) ja teuraspaino (kg) muodostuivat roduittain seuraaviksi: ab (571 vrk, 368 kg), hf (572 vrk, 368 kg), li (571 vrk, 391 kg), ch (552 vrk, 413 kg), si (565 vrk, 402 kg) ja ba (570 vrk, 393 kg). Teuraspainojen osalta ainoastaan ab- ja hf-rodun sonnit sekä li- ja ba-sonnit eivät eronneet keskenään tilastollisesti merkitsevästi toisistaan. Kaikkien muiden rotujen välillä ero teuraspainossa oli merkitsevä (p<0.001). Sonnien nettokasvu (g/pv), lihakkuusluokka (EUROP) ja rasvaisuusluokka (EUROP) olivat roduittain seuraavat: ab (619 g/pv, R-, 3,3), hf (618 g/pv, R-, 3,2), li (660 g/pv, U-, 2,2), ch (724 g/pv, R+, 2,2), si (686 g/pv, R, 2,3) ja ba (663 g/pv, U-, 1,8). Nettokasvuissa ab ja hf-rodun sonnit sekä li- ja ba-sonnit eivät eronneet keskenään tilastollisesti merkitsevästi toisistaan, mutta kaikkien muiden rotujen välillä ero oli merkitsevä (p<0.001). Ruhojen lihakkuudessa ei ollut tilastollista merkitsevyyttä ab- ja hf-rotujen välillä; kaikki muut erot olivat tilastollisesti merkitseviä. Ruhojen rasvaisuudessa kaikki rodut erosivat toisistaan tilastollisesti merkitsevästi. Hiehojen keskimääräinen kasvatusaika oli 462 vrk. The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), encoded by the gene mutated in cystic fibrosis patients, belongs to the family of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) proteins, but, unlike other members, functions as a chloride channel. CFTR is activated by protein kinase A (PKA)-mediated phosphorylation of multiple sites in its regulatory domain, and gated by binding and hydrolysis of ATP at its two nucleotide binding domains (NBD1, NBD2). The recent crystal structure of NBD1 from mouse CFTR (Lewis, H.A., S.G. Buchanan, S.K. Burley, K. Conners, M. Dickey, M. Dorwart, R. Fowler, X. Gao, W.B. Guggino, W.A. Hendrickson, et al. 2004. EMBO J. 23:282–293) identified two regions absent from structures of all other NBDs determined so far, a “regulatory insertion” (residues 404–435) and a “regulatory extension” (residues 639–670), both positioned to impede formation of the putative NBD1–NBD2 dimer anticipated to occur during channel gating; as both segments appeared highly mobile and both contained consensus PKA sites (serine 422, and serines 660 and 670, respectively), it was suggested that their phosphorylation-linked conformational changes might underlie CFTR channel regulation. To test that suggestion, we coexpressed in Xenopus oocytes CFTR residues 1–414 with residues 433–1480, or residues 1–633 with 668–1480, to yield split CFTR channels (called 414+433 and 633+668) that lack most of the insertion, or extension, respectively. In excised patches, regulation of the resulting CFTR channels by PKA and by ATP was largely normal. Both 414+433 channels and 633+668 channels, as well as 633(S422A)+668 channels (lacking both the extension and the sole PKA consensus site in the insertion), were all shut during exposure to MgATP before addition of PKA, but activated like wild type (WT) upon phosphorylation; this indicates that inhibitory regulation of nonphosphorylated WT channels depends upon neither segment. Detailed kinetic analysis of 414+433 channels revealed intact ATP dependence of single-channel gating kinetics, but slightly shortened open bursts and faster closing from the locked-open state (elicited by ATP plus pyrophosphate or ATP plus AMPPNP). In contrast, 633+668 channel function was indistinguishable from WT at both macroscopic and microscopic levels. We conclude that neither nonconserved segment is an essential element of PKA- or nucleotide-dependent regulation.

The rate coefficients for hydrogen abstraction by hydroxyl radicals from methanol and ethanol have been determined in the temperature ranges 260-803 K and 255-459 K respectively. Flash photolysis combined with resonance absorption detection of OH was used to obtain results which may be described by the Arrhenius expressions: Methanol ��� k(T) = (8.0�1.9)×10-12 exp[-(664�88)K/T]cm3 s-1 ������� (1) Ethanol ���� k(T) = (1.25�0.24)×10-11 exp[-(360�52)K/T]cm3 s-1 (2) The results obtained for methanol are in excellent agreement with results obtained by other workers, but the Arrhenius parameters for ethanol are markedly different to those obtained in the only other study of the temperature dependence of this reaction. The rate constant for reaction with (D3)methanolhas been determined at 293 K: (D3)Methanol ����� k(293) = 5.0�0.2×10-13 cm3 s-1 (3) The presence of an isotope effect confirms that the predominant process is abstraction of hydrogen from the carbon rather than the oxygen. The results obtained for the reaction with ethanol were analysed by using a 21 reaction scheme to determine the effect of [OH]O and secondary reactions on k(T). The simulations indicate that secondary reactions involving OH are relatively unimportant in determining the bimolecular rate coefficients found in this study.

662 Background: Current therapy for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) consists of 6 months of perioperative therapy, either with pre-operative chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) and post operative adjuvant chemotherapy (PAC) or total neoadjuvant therapy (TNT) with induction chemotherapy (ICT) followed by CRT then surgery. The aim of our study was to report on the safety, efficacy and complete response rates comparing TNT to PAC in a larger series of LARC patients (pts) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). Methods: Pts treated at MSKCC (2009-15) were analyzed based on the intended treatment schedule (TNT or PAC). 730 LARC pts were treated with CRT, of these 320 received neoadjuvant CRT and 308 received TNT. Results: In the TNT group 205 pts (73%) underwent surgery within 26 weeks of completion of treatment, of which 38 (19%) had a pCR. Of the 78 pts who did not undergo surgery within 26 weeks, 68 (87%) had a complete clinical response (cCR). In the PAC group 293 pts (92%) underwent surgery within 26 weeks and 45 (15%) had a pCR. Of the 27 pts who did not undergo surgery within 26 weeks 22 (81%) had a cCR. The median follow up was 25 mo in the TNT group and 29 mo in the PAC group. There was no statistically significant difference in the distant metastasis free survival between the treatment regimens, despite a higher number of cT4 and cN + tumors in the TNT group. Fewer distant recurrences were seen in pts who had evidence of T downstaging (P < 0.001), N downstaging (P < 0.005), the presence of a cCR (P = 0.005) or a pCR (P < 0.005). Of the pts who received all treatment at MSKCC, comparison of dose of 5-FU and oxaliplatin between the preoperative (N = 249) and postoperative regimens (N = 101) was notable for a higher average dose received of both 5FU and oxaliplatin (p < 0.005 and p < 0.001) in the ICT group. Conclusions: These data add weight to the evidence already included in the NCCN guidelines that pre-operative chemotherapy as part of TNT is a viable treatment strategy with superior compliance and delivery of systemic therapy. Given the high complete response rate, TNT may be used as part of an organ preservation treatment strategy.

Motivated by earlier works (Wu and Zhu. Phys. Lett. B, 660, 293 (2008); Daouda et al. Eur. Phys. J. C, 72, 1893 (2012)), we extend them by considering a newly proposed model of (m, n)-type holographic dark energy in f(R) and f(T) gravity theories, where R and T represent Ricci scalar and torsion scalar respectively. Specifically, we reconstruct the two later gravity models and discuss their viability and cosmography. The obtained gravity models are free from ghosts, consistent with local solar system tests, and describe effective positive gravitational constant.

Pseudo static tests of 10 specimen made of 290 mm thick reinforced concrete masonry wall were finished, then test results were simulated by ABAQUS which use shell element, pamameters of the materials were defined by the comparison between the calculation results and that of the test. A 100 m high reinforced concrete masonry building in China was analyzed, elastic-plastic deformation check calculation under earthquake action by time-history analysis method were detailed. The story drift of the building is 1/666 for fortification intensity 6 and 1/326 for intensity 7 under strong earthquake, it is feasible.

2014 Background: Treatment of anaplastic oligodendroglial tumors is controversial. Early results of randomized trials suggest chemotherapy (CT) with procarbazine-lomustine-vincristine (PCV) before or after radiotherapy (RT) improves progression-free but not overall survival (OS) versus RT alone. It is unknown if CT alone affects outcome versus CT&RT, or if temozolomide (TMZ) compares favorably with PCV. Methods: We retrospectively identified adults with newly diagnosed anaplastic oligodendroglioma (AO) or oligo-astrocytoma (AOA) seen at 17 medical centers from 1981–2007 exclusive of phase III or bone marrow transplant trials. Data were updated January 1, 2009. Survivals were estimated by Kaplan-Meier method and compared with log-rank. Results: There were 1054 patients: 594 men, 460 women; median age 42 (18–88); 661 with AO, 443 with AOA. Treatment was: observation (82, 8%), RT alone (n = 210, 20%), RT then chemotherapy (283, 27%), RT + CT concurrently (118, 11%), CT alone (205, 19%), CT then RT (137, 13%), or other (19, 2%). Median time to progression (TTP) and OS were 2.8 and 6.5 years, respectively, with median follow up of 4.1 years (0.03–20.8) on surviving patients (n = 560, 53%). 1p19q co-deletion was observed in 292 (48%) and no deletion in 232 (38%) of 606 tested tumors. Co-deletion predicted longer median TTP (4.2 vs. 1.8 years for no deletion, p = 0.0002) and OS (8.4 vs. 3.3 years, p < 0.0001). Median TTP was longer following CT&RT (sequential or concurrent) than CT alone (3.7 vs. 2.6 years, p = 0.0007), but median OS did not differ (6.6 vs. 7.1 years, p = 0.8); co-deletion was more common with CT alone than CT&RT (p < 0.0001, χ2), although restricting analysis of CT&RT versus CT to the co-deletion cohort yielded analogous results (median TTP 7.2 vs. 3.8 years, p = 0.011; OS 7.9 vs. 10.4 years, p = 0.26). Median TTP was longer following PCV alone (7.6 years, n = 17) than TMZ alone (3.3 years, n = 65) with co-deletion (p < 0.02); median OS was also longer (not reached, vs. 7.1 years), but did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.07 log-rank). Conclusions: 1p19q co-deletion predicted improved outcome. Treatment strategies varied widely. CT alone did not appear to shorten OS versus CT&RT. PCV may be superior in efficacy to TMZ. In order to develop novel electrochromic materials, 2,3′:4′,2″-terthiophene (I3T), 5,5′-biformyl- 2,2′:5′,2″:5″,2″′-quaterthiophene (4T-2CHO), and 2,5-(5′-cyano)thienyl-3,4-thienyl-t- hiophene (XT-2CN) were synthesized, and their electrochromic properties were studied. It was found that I3T, 4T-2CHO and XT-2CN as solid films showed reversible, clear color changes on electrochemical doping and dedoping. These oligothiophene derivatives constitute a new class of potential electrochromic materials.

Abstract Insects are the largest group of animals on the planet and have a huge impact on human life by providing resources, transmitting diseases, and damaging agricultural crop production. Recently, a large amount of insect genome and gene data has been generated. A comprehensive database is highly desirable for managing, sharing, and mining these resources. Here, we present an updated database, InsectBase 2.0 (http://v2.insect-genome.com/), covering 815 insect genomes, 25 805 transcriptomes and &gt;16 million genes, including 15 045 111 coding sequences, 3 436 022 3′UTRs, 4 345 664 5′UTRs, 112 162 miRNAs and 1 293 430 lncRNAs. In addition, we used an in-house standard pipeline to annotate 1 434 653 genes belonging to 164 gene families; 215 986 potential horizontally transferred genes; and 419 KEGG pathways. Web services such as BLAST, JBrowse2 and Synteny Viewer are provided for searching and visualization. InsectBase 2.0 serves as a valuable platform for entomologists and researchers in the related communities of animal evolution and invertebrate comparative genomics.

SummaryThe effect of desmopressin on platelet function in patients with continued antiplatelet therapy undergoing cardiac surgery is discussed controversially. We assessed platelet reactivity in 86 patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) under extracorporeal circulation. Twenty-nine of these patients were without preoperative antiplatelet therapy (group A), while 57 were treated with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) 100 mg qd up to the day of surgery. Out of this cohort, 24 patients received no desmopressin perioperatively (group B), whereas 33 patients were treated with desmopressin 0.4 μg/kg after administration of protamine due to increased bleeding tendency (group C). Multiple electrode platelet aggregometry with arachidonic acid as agonist showed a marked decrease of platelet reactivity in patients without antiplatelet therapy immediately after extracorporeal circulation compared to preoperative control (375 ± 227 vs. 749 ± 330 AU*min, p<0.001). Platelet reactivity recovered to preoperative controls in group A at 24 hours after protamine administration (662 ± 295 AU*min). Platelet reactivity in patients on ASA was not decreased further after extracorporeal circulation (group B: 197 ± 126 vs. 251 ± 203 AU*min, p=0.14; group C: 212 ± 100 vs. 245 ± 248 AU*min, p=0.43) and improved significantly within 24 hours. A statistically significant effect of desmopressin, however, could not be determined (group B: 392 ± 223 AU*min; group C: 439 ± 324 AU*min at 24 hours after protamine, p=0.63 for between-subjects contrast). Our data suggest that desmopressin does not affect platelet reactivity in patients on ASA undergoing CABG and is, therefore, not useful in this clinical setting.

Objectives. Studies have shown the existence of a significant home ground advantage in a range of sports. The aim of this study was to determine whether home performances of the South African teams during the 1996 - 2005 seasons were different before touring to Australia and New Zealand, compared with the home matches played after the 4 - 5-week tour. The question was relevant because this competition places unusual demands on the players. For example, the duration of the tournament is 12 weeks, during which time the South African teams travel across 37.3 ± 2.5 time zones as they play 11 matches. Therefore, any home ground advantage may be negated by travel fatigue. Outcome measures. The mean points difference was calculated for home fixtures for four South African teams both prior to and following touring during the competitions from 1996 to 2005. Play‑off matches were excluded from analysis. Performance was defined as a positive points difference (points difference = points ‘for' minus points ‘against'). Results. The first finding of the study was that a home ground advantage did indeed exist for all the teams during the tournament (points difference of 6.6 ± 17.4 (N = 664 matches) home vs. -6.8 ± 17.3 points away (N = 656 matches) (p < 0.05). There was no difference between the mean ‘home' points difference for all the South African rugby teams either before (1.9 points, N = 96 matches) or after (2.3 points, N = 107 matches) touring overseas in the Super 12 competition. As técnicas espectrofotométricas na região do UV-VIS, atualmente, são as principais formas indiretas de determinação dos parâmetros de matéria orgânica em corpos hídricos por apresentarem resultados satisfatórios. Nesse contexto, o presente estudo visa comparar alguns métodos que empregam as Absorbâncias únicas (UV230, UV235, UV250, UV254, UV270, UV275, UV280, UV285, UV365, UV465, UV665), tendo como proposta de trabalho a integração da área de absorbância nos espectros de onda de 230 a 290 nm (A230~290) em relação a carbono orgânico dissolvido (COD), demanda química de oxigênio filtrada (DQOf) e demanda bioquímica de oxigênio (DBO). Para tanto, as análises foram realizadas em três corpos hídricos com características distintas. A fim de verificar possíveis interações, foram determinadas as razões entre as absorbâncias nos comprimentos de onda; 250 e 365 nm (E2/E3), e para 465 e 665 nm (E4/E6), Absortividade Específica a 254 nm (SUVA254) e 285 (SUVA285). De acordo com os resultados (p<0,001 e n=90), a correlação para COD apresentou uma forte relação (R=0,965), e para DQOf (R=0,8780) para A230~290, seguida em ordem decrescente; UV275>UV280> UV270>UV250>UV254, para COD e UV235>UV270> UV280>UV254>UV250> UV275> UV285, para DQO. E não houve relações de caracterização possíveis para SUVA285, e E2/E3 e E4/E6, para possíveis interações e ou comparações. Além disso, de acordo com as condições e resultados apresentados, A230-290 demonstrou ser um parâmetro promissor (p<0,001) no sentido de atuar nas estimativas de concentração de COD (R=0,98547) e DQO (R=0,9203). Abstract The structural stability of Rb2Zn(Cl1 - xBrx)4 (x = 1% and 3%) is investigated using the 35Cl quadrupole resonance frequency and spin lattice relaxation time (T1Q) in the paraelectric (PE) phase. The PE to incommensurate (IC) phase transition temperature T1, observed at 302 K in the pure compound, is lowered to 300 K for x = 1 % and to 293 K for x = 3%. These effects are smaller than in the earlier reported case of 3% Cs substitution in Rb2ZnCl4 , which reduces T1 by 25 K. While bigger cation substitution affects only the barrier for anion dynamics about directions perpendicular to the a-axis (direction of low temperature IC modulation wave), bigger anion substitution is found to affect the barrier for anion dynamics about the a-axis as well. The present study also indicates that the cusp like dip in T1Q observed while approaching T1 from above (characterizing the soft mode condensation associated with the structural phase transition) is essentially unaffected by anion impurity substitution, in contrast to the case where bigger cation substitution tends to smear the transitional effects. These results seem to suggest the dominant role played by cations in stabilizing the PE phase of these A2BX4 systems, in comparison to anions.

Abstract The objective was to determine if a 3-phase feed program (CON) without spray-dried bovine plasma (SDP) using a budgeted amount of phase 1 diet (2.3 kg/pig), followed by phase 2 diet offered to d 21 post-weaning results in similar pig performance and economics compared to a 3-phase program (SDP) using 5% SDP in phase 1 diet provided d 0-14, 1.25% SDP in phase 2 diet offered d 14-21 post-weaning, with both programs using a common phase 3 diet without SDP offered d 21-48 post-weaning. Female weaned pigs (18–21 d of age; 5.02 ± 0.07 kg initial BW) were randomly allotted by BW to pens in 2 rooms to provide 23–24 pigs/pen (666 total pigs) and 14 pens/feed program. Pen data was analyzed using a randomized complete block design for effects of room and feed program using the covariance of initial BW. By d 14 pigs fed program SDP had higher (P < 0.01) ADG (159 vs 111 g/d), GF (0.85 vs 0.54), BW (7.3 vs 6.6 kg) and tended (P = 0.06) to have lower ADFI (191 vs 205 g/d) compared to CON program. By d 48 pigs fed SDP program had higher (P < 0.05) final BW (25.2 vs 24.2 kg), GF (0.60 vs 0.57) and tended (P = 0.09) to have higher ADG than CON program. Pig mortality and culls did not differ (P > 0.10) between feed programs. Assuming $4.40 kg BW, income and feed cost/pig was higher (P < 0.05) for SDP vs CON program with a value over cost advantage (P = 0.12) of $2.95/pig fed SDP. In conclusion lower cost feed programs without SDP can result in less income due to reduced final BW and GF by the end of the nursery.

293 Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a deadly cancer with ~20% five year survival. Obtaining tissue to confirm diagnosis of CCA is often challenging. This also limits the use of tumor genotyping that could guide potential molecularly targeted treatment (such as FGFR inhibitors for a subset of cases). We investigated whether circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis in plasma is feasible for noninvasive tumor genotyping in patients with advanced CCA. Methods: We collected and processed plasma samples for ctDNA analysis from 17 patients with CCA at presentation and from 11 healthy volunteers. Following cell-free DNA extraction and quality assessment using digital PCR, we performed low-pass, shallow whole genome sequencing (sWGS). We analyzed sequencing data to identify copy number aberrations and quantify tumor fraction in plasma using recently published computational approaches. Results: Median total cfDNA concentration in patients with CCA was 7,003 genome equivalents (GEs)/mL plasma (range: 1,512- 107,707 GEs/mL) and significantly higher than healthy volunteers (two tailed t-test p < 0.04, median: 1,658 GEs/mL, range: 661-4,938 GEs/mL). We successfully sequenced all tumor libraries, generating a median of 173 million paired-end reads. ctDNA was detectable in 10/17 samples using sWGS. In these 10 samples, median tumor fraction in plasma DNA was 7.1% (range: 3.9%-44.6%). We found recurrent copy number aberrations expected in CCA including 1q gain in 80%, 7p gain in 50%, 1p loss in 70% and 3p loss in 50% of cases. Conclusions: ctDNA analysis for noninvasive tumor genotyping is feasible in patients with advanced cholangiocarcinoma. On-going work is focused on expanding these results using targeted and whole-exome sequencing.

Abstract Introduction The potential consequences of vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency (I/D) in critically ill patients include: increased ICU length of stay, organ dysfunction, infectious complications, and mortality. Burn patients, in particular, may be at increased risk of vitamin D I/D due to bleeding, systemic inflammatory response syndrome, increased utilization of vitamin D by injured tissues, compromised vascular integrity, fluid shifts, and leakage of vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) and albumin. The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence of vitamin D I/D and evaluate the institutional vitamin D dosing regimen. Methods A retrospective chart review was performed on all adult patients from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2019 who received cholecalciferol and had at least one 25-hydroxy vitamin D level during their hospitalization. Vitamin D level was drawn on admission, then weekly thereafter. Patients found to be I/D were initiated on high dose vitamin D supplementation and then adjusted based on the weekly levels. The therapeutic goal for vitamin D supplementation was set at 50 ng/ml. Results Three hundred and sixteen patients met criteria for review. Of those patients, 293 patients (93%) were vitamin D I/D. The magnitude of vitamin D deficiency was strongly negatively correlated with increasing % total body surface area (TBSA) burn size (p&lt; 0.001). Mean time to reach therapeutic vitamin D levels following initiation of supplementation was 19 days, requiring an average of 116,125 units cholecalciferol weekly. Time to reach therapeutic levels was also positively correlated with increasing burn size (p&lt; 0.05). Many patients, however, were discharged prior to reaching therapeutic levels. Conclusions Vitamin D I/D is present in over 90% of burn center patients and the degree of I/D was profound. Additionally, vitamin D I/D was not easily corrected, taking almost 3 weeks to reach therapeutic levels using an aggressive supplementation regimen. Further studies documenting the consequences of vitamin D I/D and development of evidence-based supplementation dosing regimens are warranted. Applicability of Research to Practice This study documents common and severe vitamin D deficiency in burn patients, and difficulty in correcting this deficiency.

Objective Papillary thyroid microcarcinomas (microPTC) may be ’incidental’ (Inc-microPTC), occasionally found at histology after surgery for benign disease or ‘non-incidental’ (Non-Inc-microPTC), diagnosed on clinical grounds. It is unclear whether these different microPTC reflect the same disease. The aim of the study was to compare Inc-microPTC and Non-Inc-microPTC for clinical and histological features as well as for serum TSH, a known factor involved in PTC development. Design We evaluated histology and serum TSH levels of consecutive patients submitted to thyroidectomy for goiter with compressive symptoms or for cytological diagnosis suspicious/indicative of PTC. Methods In total, 665 consecutive patients (259 with a single thyroid nodule, SN and 406 with a multinodular gland, MN) were included in the study. According to histology, patients were classified as: benign nodular goiter (Benign, n=291); Inc-microPTC (n=92); Non-Inc-microPTC (n=67) and PTC≥1cm (macroPTC, n=215). Results Inc-microPTC were significantly more frequent in MN than in SN (66/406, 16.2% vs 26/259, 10.0%, P=0.02). Patients with Inc-microPTC compared with Non-Inc-microPTC were older (mean age±s.d. 53.3±13.2 years vs 44.9±14.8 years, P=0.0002), had a smaller tumor size (median 4mm vs 9mm, P<0.0001), a higher frequency of multifocality (70/92, 76.1% vs 35/67, 52.2% P=0.001) and lower levels of TSH (median 0.6mIU/L, IR: 0.4–1.0mIU/L vs value 1. mIU/L, IR: 0.6–1.4mIU/L vs P=0.0001). Conclusion Incidental and non-incidental papillary thyroid microcarcinomas appear to be two different entities.

Pääasiassa maatalouden tuottama ammoniakki on happamoittava yhdiste, joka aiheuttaa myös epäsuoria kasvihuonekaasupäästöjä. Maailmalla laajalti tutkituista ammoniakin ja kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen vähentämiskeinoista on vähän tietoa Suomen olosuhteissa, vaikka lannan ja väkilannoitteen levitystekniikoilla on todettu olevan vaikutusta kasvihuonekaasupäästöihin.Lietelannan ja väkilannoitteen levitystekniikan vaikutusta ohrapellon (Inari) satoon ja sen laatuunsekä dityppioksidi- ja metaanipäästöihin tutkittiin Vihdissä vuonna 2001 hiesusavella. Koemuoto oli satunnaistettu lohkokoe 5 käsittelyllä, väkilannoitetyppiportailla ja 4 kerranteella, josta mitattiin maankosteus gravimetrisesti ja mineraalitypen pitoisuudet sekä metaanin ja dityppioksidin päästöt suljetulla kammiomenetelmällä 4 käsittelystä ja 3 kerranteesta viiden kuukauden ajan. Viiden kuukauden mittausjaksolla suurimmat kumulatiiviset N2O-päästöt, 1100±293 g ha-1, tuotti levitystekniikka, jossa koko lannoitus annettiin lietelantana sijoittamalla kylvön yhteydessä (Sinj). N2Opäästöt olivat paljon pienemmät (660±122 g ha-1), kun lannoitus annettiin sijoituslannoituksena sekä lietelantana että väkilannoitteena yhtä aikaa kylvön yhteydessä (Sinj+ F) pelkän lietelannoituksen sijaan. Jaetun lannoituksen (liete letkulevityksenä pintaan, multaus tunnin kuluttua levityksestä ja väkilannoitus kylvön yhteydessä, Sinc + F) N2O-päästöt olivat 400±64 g ha-1 ja kylvön yhteydessä pelkällä väkilannoitteella lannoitetun (Fplac) N2O-päästöt 290±47 g ha-1. Vaikutukset metaanipäästöihin eivät olleet selkeästi havaittavissa, sillä käsittelyiden välillä ei ollut tilastollisesti merkitseviä eroja. N2O-päästöt keskittyivät lannoituksen jälkeisiin kahteen viikkoon ja kuukauden kuluessa sattuneiden runsaiden sateiden jälkeisiin päiviin. Kasvuston käytettyä lähes kaiken annetun typen kuukauden kuluessa päästöt olivat suhteellisen pienet.Lietelannan sijoittamisen on todettu vähentävän tehokkaasti ammoniakkiemissiota mutta voivan lisätä dityppioksidipäästöjä denitrifikaatiolle suotuisissa olosuhteissa (sijoitettu lannoite suuressa kosteudessa). Letkulevityksen mahdollinen suuri ammoniakkitappio voi puolestaan pienentää dityppioksidipäästöjä. Levitystekniikoiden kehittäminen ravinteet tehokkaasti kasvien käyttöön saattaviksi ja ammoniakki- sekä dityppioksidipäästöt minivoiviksi olisi tarpeen.Nykyisten kasvihuonekaasuinventaarioiden päästökertoimet eivät ota huomioon levitystapaa tai lannoitetta, vaikka tuloksemme viittaavat eri lannoille, lannoitteille ja levitysmenetelmille erilaisten päästökertoimien määritystarpeeseen. Niiden avulla päästöjä vähentävien menetelmien käyttö näkyisi myös kasvihuonekaasuinventaariossa.

A prohibition for persons holding government (municipal) positions, for government (municipal) employees, and some other employees of the public sphere who are public officials to receive remuneration (gifts) is aimed at preventing bribery (Art. 290, 291, 291.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), and could be viewed as a measure of anti-corruption criminological security. However, the existing collisions of civil, administrative and criminal law norms that regulate this prohibition lead to an ongoing discussion in research publications and complexities in practice. The goal of this research is to study the conditions and identify the problems of the legal regulation of receiving remuneration (gifts) in connection with the performance of official duties that prevent the implementation of anti-corruption criminological security. The authors use the legal theory of security measures to analyze the provisions of Clause 3, Part 1, Art. 575 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation and Clause 6, Part 1, Art. 17 of the Federal Law «About the Public Civil Service in the Russian Federation», examine the doctrinal approaches to defining the priority of enforcing the above-mentioned norms, study the significant features of the category «ordinary gift» and conduct its evaluation from the standpoint of differentiating between gifts and bribes, also in connection with the criteria of the insignificance of the corruption deed. The empirical basis of the study is the decisions of courts of general jurisdiction. The authors also used their experience of working in Commissions on the observance of professional behavior and the resolution of conflicts of interests at different levels. The conducted research allowed the authors to come to the following fundamental conclusions: 1) the special security rule under Clause 6, Part 1, Art. 17 of the Federal Law «About the Public Civil Service in the Russian Federation», which sets a full prohibition for government employees to receive remuneration (gifts) in connection with the performance of official duties, contradicts Clause 3, Part 1, Art. 575 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation (the existing legal-linguistic vagueness of categories in Art. 575 of the CC of the RF leads to problems in law enforcement and makes a negative impact on the anti-corruption mentality of people); 2) as the concepts «gift» and «bribe» do not logically intersect, the development of additional normative legal criteria for their delineation seems to be unpromising and will lead to a new wave of scholastic and practical disagreements; 3) the introduction of a uniform and blanket ban on receiving remuneration (gifts) in the public sphere by eliminating Clause 3, Part 1, Art. 575 of the CC of the RF seems to be an effective measure of preventing bribery, and its application is justified until Russian society develops sustainable anti-corruption mentality.

ABSTRACT The tra genes orf1 to orf11 of pIP501 were shown to be transcribed as a single operon of 11.3 kb in Enterococcus faecalis by reverse transcription-PCR. The transcriptional start site of the tra mRNA was mapped at 110 bp upstream from the predicted TTG start codon of the first gene of the operon, the traA relaxase. The TraA protein (660 amino acids) and a C-terminally truncated version of the TraA protein (293 amino acids) were purified as fusions with glutathione S-transferase. oriT cleavage activity of both TraA proteins was demonstrated in vitro on supercoiled plasmid pVA2241 DNA containing oriTpIP501 . The activity of the DNA relaxase TraA is strictly dependent on the presence of Mg2+ or Mn2+ and is highest at temperatures of between 42 and 45°C.

Abstrak Traditional products derived from the local wisdom of the Tarakan City coastal communities, namely in the form of cold protective skin powder from the sun which is made from mangrove raw Sonneratia alba. This product has potential to be developed to improve the economic value of local communities. They can compete with products other sunscreen products produced by industry (commercial) through cream preparation technology (sunscreen).This research was carried out for seven months (February-August 2018) in the Environmental Laboratory of FPIK UBT, Samarinda Pharmacy laboratory (AKFARSAM), and the UNMUL Mathematics and Biochemistry laboratory. The research procedure used maserasi method with 70% ethanol solvent followed by concentrating the extract using a rotary evaporator to obtain extracts of active ingredients and carried out qualitative phytochemical testing. The obtained active ingredient was is then formulated into a sunscreen cream preparation. The level of protection of mixed sunscreen cold powder and commercial cream were tested by using UV-VIS spectrophotometer to see the value of Sun Protection Factor (SPF) at absorbance of 290-320 nm. Qualitative phytochemical test showed that on S.alba contains of positive alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, steroids, and tannins, and negative saponins. ANOVA statistical analysis (95%) based on the calculated F value <F table so that H1 is rejected and H0 is accepted, ie there is no difference in SPF values among sunscreen products tested in this study. Based on the category of sunscreen ability, it is known that the SPF value of the three different products tested in this study ranged from maximum to ultra categories with pH values ranging from 6.5-7.5.

660 Background: Adverse toxicities to chemotherapy remain a limiting factor for patients receiving treatment for malignancies. In gastrointestinal cancers, particularly metastatic colorectal cancer, the majority of front line treatment remains chemotherapy containing 5-fluorouracil and/or irinotecan. One particular cause that can predispose a patient to increased toxicity from 5-fluorouracil is genetic variation in the DPYD gene, as well as TYMS gene. Similarly, genetic variation in the UGT1A1 gene can increase the risk of irinotecan toxicity. These gene variations may have major implications when deciding on treatment regimens for these types of patients; however, they are not routinely checked. Methods: In Mayo Clinic Florida, patients with metastatic colorectal cancer receiving 5-fluorouracil and/or irinotecan chemotherapy during the period of July 2017-July 2018 were tested for genetic variants in DPYD/TYMS and UGT1A1. This testing was done during routine clinic visit either by buccal swab or blood test. The DPYD/TYMS and UGT1A1 variant results were evaluated together with a pharmacist for recommendations regarding dose reductions on 5-fluorouracil and irinotecan respectively. Results: A total of 292 patients were tested. Total number of patients who had a variation in the DPYD/ TYMS and/or UGT1A1 gene was 169 (57.9%). The UGT1A1 variation was the most prevalent with 154 (52.7%) patients having a variant (115 heterozygous variant, 34 homozygous variant and 5 double heterozygous variant). Specifically there were 3 patients with both UGT1A1 and DPYD variants and 3 patients with both UGT1A1 and TYMS variants. One patient had both DPYD and TYMS variations. Conclusions: Routine pharmacogenomic testing for UGT1A1 and DPYD/TYMS genetic variants should be done in all patients receiving irinotecan and 5-fluorouracil chemotherapy respectively. Avoiding or preemptively dose reducing these agents in patients with gene variations may help prevent toxic adverse events and make treatment more tolerable.

Abstract. Abundance variations of six Pliocene species of the nannofossil genus Discoaster were analyzed over the time interval 1.89–2.95 Ma at five sites in the North Atlantic; DSDP 552 (56°N), DSDP 607 (41°N), ODP 659 (18°N), ODP 658 (20°N) and ODP 662 (1°S). Individual species are compared between the five sites as a percentage of the total Discoaster assemblage, using age models based mainly on Discoaster datums (3 control points used at each site). The sampling interval is approximately 3 kyrs.Discoaster brouweri, the only species covering the complete time interval became a less significant component of the assemblages with increasing latitude during the interval prior to 2.3 Ma. Discoaster triradiatus shows a distinct abundance acme at all sites between 1.89–2.7 Ma. Discoaster surculus increased in relative abundance with higher latitudes and upwelling conditions (ODP Site 658).Discoaster pentaradiatus is an important component of the assemblages at all sites, but displays an inverse abundance relationship with D. surculus as a function of increasing latitude and upwelling conditions. Discoaster tamalis and Discoaster asymmetricus are reduced at low latitudes and in upwelling conditions and increase relative to D. brouweri at higher latitudes, where there is strong evidence for taxonomic affinity.

664 Background: Cumulative sensory neurotoxicity of l-OHP used in standard 1st-line FOLFOX / CapeOX +/− BV therapies in mCRC results in impairment of patient's quality of life (QoL) and discontinuation of the treatment. CONcePT trial revealed that intermittent l-OHP use in BV plus FOLFOX7 is safe, keeping efficacy comparing with BV plus FOLFOX7 in which l-OHP is administered until time to treatment failure. But it is unknown that intermittent l-OHP administration is also safe and effective in Japanese pts with mCRC Methods: This trial aims to enroll 65 of Japanese pts with mCRC. Either BV+FOLFOX or BV+CapeOX is selected by decision of physician in charge. In BV+FOLFOX arm, pts receive 6 cycles of BV plus mFOLFOX6 (5 mg/kg of BV, 85 mg/m2 of l-OHP, 200 mg/m2 of I-LV, 400 mg/m2 of 5-FU by rapid IV infusion on day1, and 2,400 mg/m2 of 5-FU 46 hr by continuous IV infusion as a 2 weeks course) and 6 cycles of BV plus sLV5FU2. In BV+CapeOX arm, pts recieve 4 cycles of BV plus CapeOX (7.5 mg/kg of BV, 120 mg/m2 of l-OHP and capecitabine 1,000mg/m2 twice daily, day1 to 14 as a 3weeks course) and 4 cycles of BV+capecitabine. The primary endpoint is progression free survival (PFS) and secondary endpoints are tumor response (RR), overall survival (OS), time to treatment failure (TTF) and frequency of neurotoxicity. Results: According the protocol, interim analysis about efficacy and safety was performed at the time the 13th pts was received the treatment for 7 months. Median progression free survival is 290+ days (95% CI 119 - 558 days) and PFS of 9 cases were more than 7 months, which is threshold value. No serious adverse effects were observed in 13 cases. The efficacy and safety evaluation committee recommended continuing the study and the current accrual is 47 cases. Conclusions: This is the interim report of T-CORE0901 trial and the study remains open to accrual with projected enrollment completion in 2012.

The Ni92.8Mo7.2 alloy powder was obtained by electrochemical codeposition from an ammonium solution of NiSO4 and (NH4)6 Mo7O24 at j = 100 mA m-2, on a titanium cathode. DSC measurements and determination of the dependence of electrical resistivity on temperature did not reveal any changes in powder structure in the temperature range from 293 to 460 K. Therefore, in this range, there was no significant change in magnetic susceptibility either. Structural relaxation took place in the temperature interval from 460 to 560 K causing an increase in magnetic susceptibility. At temperatures higher than 570 K, magnetic susceptibility rapidly decreased. The Curie temperature of the powder was 660 K. With the increasing powder pressing pressure the magnetic susceptibility increased while the electric resistivity decreased. With the pressing pressure increase, the pore size was decreased and a better contact between powder particles was established. This caused electrical resistivity decrease and magnetic susceptibility increase.

Collapse of a weakly-spherical cavitation bubble in acetone and tetradecane is studied. The bubble radius is 500 μm, the temperature and pressure of the liquid are 293 K and 15 bar in the case of acetone and 663 K and 50 bar in the case of tetradecane. A hydrodynamic model is used in which the compressibility of the liquid, the nonstationary thermal conduction of the vapor and the liquid, and nonequilibrium heat and mass transfer on the bubble surface, as well as imperfection of the vapor, are considered. Realistic wide-range equations of state are used. It has been found that converging shock waves appear in the bubbles during its collapses in acetone and tetradecane. The maximum values of the thermodynamic parameters are comparable. A comparison of the evolution of the bubble sphericity perturbation and motion of the shock wave in the bubble allows suggesting that tetradecane is a more favorable medium for the realization of a near-spherical cumulation in a bubble than acetone.

Objective: To compare the patient outcome in severe COVID-19 pneumonia between the non-invasive ventilation and invasive mechanical ventilation. Study design: Prospective, observational study Study Setting and Duration: Department of Pulmonology, Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur from January 2021 to June 2021. Methodology: We analyzed 660 patients of severe covid pneumonia. Conscious proning was done in those requiring ≥ 21 L oxygen and oxygen saturation < 90%. We defined typical ARDS according to Berlin criteria. Atypical ARDS did not fulfill set criteria. We divided ARDS into 2 types i-e H and L type. We managed ARDS with either NIV, invasive mechanical ventilation or both. We used multiple regression analysis to predict ICU stay. Results: Out of 660 patients, 285 (43.18%) developed biPAP failure and were subsequently intubated. We observed 273 (41.4%) overall mortality, 175 (64.1%) in IMV and 98 (35.9%) in the NIV group (p<0.0001). invasive mechanical ventilation had statistically significant correlation with mortality and also predicted ICU stay. (p=< 0.001, OR 3.2, p=0.001). Conclusion: NIV therapy is superior to invasive mechanical ventilation in terms of ICU stay and outcome. Abstract. Atmospheric methane from episodic gas hydrate (GH) destabilization, the "clathrate gun" hypothesis, is proposed to affect past climates, possibly since the Phanerozoic began or earlier. In the terrestrial Beaufort-Mackenzie Basin (BMB), GHs occur commonly below thick ice-bearing permafrost (IBP), but they are rare within it. Two end-member GH models, where gas is either trapped conventionally (Case 1) or where it is trapped dynamically by GH formation (Case 2), were simulated using profile (1-D) models and a 14 Myr ground surface temperature (GST) history based on marine isotopic data, adjusted to the study setting, constrained by deep heat flow, sedimentary succession conductivity, and observed IBP and Type I GH contacts in Mallik wells. Models consider latent heat effects throughout the IBP and GH intervals. Case 1 GHs formed at ~0.9 km depth only ~1 Myr ago by in situ transformation of conventionally trapped natural gas. Case 2 GHs begin to form at ~290–300 m ~6 Myr ago in the absence of lithological migration barriers. During glacial intervals Case 2 GH layers expand both downward and upward as the permafrost grows downward through and intercalated with GHs. The distinctive model results suggest that most BMB GHs resemble Case 1 models, based on the observed distinct and separate occurrences of GHs and IBP and the lack of observed GH intercalations in IBP. Case 2 GHs formed >255 m, below a persistent ice-filled permafrost layer that is as effective a seal to upward methane migration as are Case 1 lithological seals. All models respond to GST variations, but in a delayed and muted manner such that GH layers continue to grow even as the GST begins to increase. The models show that the GH stability zone history is buffered strongly by IBP during the interglacials. Thick IBP and GHs could have persisted since ~1.0 Myr ago and ~4.0 Myr ago for Cases 1 and 2, respectively. Offshore BMB IBP and GHs formed terrestrially during Pleistocene sea level low stands. Where IBP is sufficiently thick, both IBP and GHs persist even where inundated by a Holocene sea level rise and both are also expected to persist into the next glacial even if atmospheric CO2 doubles. We do not address the "clathrate gun" hypothesis directly, but our models show that sub-IBP GHs respond to, rather than cause GST changes, due to both how GST changes propagates with depth and latent heat effects. Models show that many thick GH accumulations are prevented from contributing methane to the atmosphere, because they are almost certainly trapped below either ice-filled IBP or lithological barriers. Where permafrost is sufficiently thick, combinations of geological structure, thermal processes and material properties make sub-IBP GHs unlikely sources for significant atmospheric methane fluxes. Our sub-IBP GH model histories suggest that similar models applied to other GH settings could improve the understanding of GHs and their potential to affect climate.

For cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) in goat, there are conflicting reports about the proper time of enucleation after IVM of oocytes, which varied from 20 to 27 h (Das SK et al. 2003 Small Rumin. Res. 48, 217–225; Keefer CL et al. 2002 Biol. Reprod. 66, 199–203; Daniel SM et al. 2007 Small Rumin. Res. 77, 45–50). The present investigation has been undertaken to standardize the optimum time of enucleation after IVM of oocytes. The hypothesis behind the study was that enucleation performed during early stages of maturation maintains the MII plate and polar body (PB) in a closer position and therefore makes it easy to enucleate. To test this hypothesis, caprine COCs were aspirated from slaughterhouse ovaries of goats and good quality oocytes were matured in TCM 199 containing 7.5% FBS supplemented with FSH, LH, and estradiol. Enucleation was performed in four different interval groups after IVM (20–23 h, 23–26 h, 26–29 h and 29–32 h). The enucleation of oocytes was conducted as per method described by (Du F et al. 2006 Theriogenology 65, 642–665). Briefly, IVM oocytes were enucleated by squashing and compressing out the first PB along with 10 to 15% of its surrounding cytoplasm with an enucleation needle through a slit made on the zona pellucida. Successful enucleation was confirmed by fluorescent microscopy of removed ooplasm after staining with Hoechst 33342. The enucleation percentage values after arcsine transformation was analyzed by completely randomized design ANOVA. The result of enucleation at different intervals has been summarized in Table 1. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) in number of PB observed among the four enucleation groups, however the enucleation percentage decreased significantly (P < 0.05) with increase in enucleation time (70.29% and 70.51% in G1 and G2 v. 59.52% and 55.61% in G3 and G4 respectively). With increase in time of enucleation after maturation the size of perivitelline space increases, causing deviation of PB from spindle, thus the success rate of enucleation is reduced (Song K et al. 2007 Repro. Fertil. Dev. 19, 293–294). In G1 and G2 groups the PB and MII chromosomes are located close together with stronger spindle force that requires minimum ooplasm to be removed with higher percentage of successful enucleation. Hence, it was concluded that G1 and G2 groups may be considered as most efficient for enucleation but the developmental potential of reconstructed oocytes after nuclear transfer in each group needs to be tested (study under progress). This article focuses on the impact of COVID-19 on smoking and smoking cessation behaviours and support for smoke-free zones in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A pre-tested structured survey was distributed by email in October–November 2020 to students and staff at the University of Jeddah. Responses were analysed using descriptive statistics with summative content analysis of open text. Participants providing open text comments (n = 374/666; 56.4%) were non-smokers (n = 293; 78.3%), former smokers (n = 26; 7.0%) and current smokers (n = 55; 14.7%). Some had household members (n = 220; 58.8%) and friends who smoke (n = 198; 52.9%) plus daily exposure to secondhand smoke at home (n = 125; 33.4%). There was an awareness during COVID-19 of: smoking inside cafes/restaurants and other indoor and outdoor public places; exposure to warnings in the media both against and promoting smoking; widespread support for smoke-free zones. Smokers plans for accessing smoking cessation support are inconsistent with retrospective reports. Many express positivity highlighting reductions in smoking but there were also negative reports of increased smoking. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected every aspect of society worldwide. People have been at home more with restricted freedom of movement and limitations on social liberty. These individual accounts can help to focus evidence-based smoking prevention and cessation programmes during and post-COVID-19.

Inadequate pain management affects the patient outcome. Pain assessment and management are fundamental in nursing care, and nurses must be equipped with adequate knowledge and a positive attitude toward pain assessment and management. This study aims to evaluate nurses’ knowledge and attitudes regarding pain assessment and management at King Fahad Hospital, Al-Madinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. A quantitative, cross-sectional survey, using a self-administered questionnaire, was conducted from January to February 2020 with 660 registered nurses working in the Emergency Department, critical care units, inpatient and outpatient departments at King Fahad Hospital in Al-Medinah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Of the 660 nurses, 291 responded, resulting in a response rate of 44.09%. The participants’ scores ranged from 17.7% to 100%, with a mean score 45.29%. The majority of the participants (70.1%) had a poor level of knowledge and attitudes (score < 50%). Nurses working in the outpatient department scored significantly higher than the group working in the Emergency Department and inpatient wards. Deficient knowledge and negative attitudes were found and nurses continue to underassess and undertreat pain. Nursing school curricula and in-service continuous education must equip nurses with the required knowledge and attitudes to enable them to manage pain effectively.

292 Background: Advanced lung cancer involves severe and distressing symptoms, especially anxiety, breathlessness, insomnia, and pain. Progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) is an empirically supported treatment for reducing stress and the emotional, cognitive, and physiological concomitants of anxiety. Methods: A quality improvement effort involved enhancing standard of care (SOC) by offering patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer one brief (20-minute) PMR session during a clinic visit for treatment determination. A static group comparison design was used. The PMR group ( n= 40) received PMR with pre (initial visit) and post (3-4 week follow-up) assessments of anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Scale), breathlessness (American Thoracic Society for the Division of Lung Diseases Questionnaire), insomnia (Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale), and pain (Brief Pain Inventory). The static group ( n= 32) was assessed on one occasion only, during the 3-4 week follow-up visit. Pre/post analyses for the PMR group used paired samples t-tests. Linear regressions compared post data between the two groups. An alpha of .10 determined significance. Results: Analyses showed pre- to post-PMR differences in pain ( p= .036, d= .309) and breathlessness ( p= .084, d= .663), with null effects for anxiety ( p= .149, d= .178) and insomnia ( p= .811, d= .067). Controlling for performance status, smoking history, and toxicities, regression showed that the PMR group reported significantly less pain ( p= .046, b= 2.48). Conclusions: PMR effectively reduced symptoms of breathlessness and pain among patients with advanced lung cancer. Interventions based on the education and training of PMR may provide an improvement to SOC lung cancer treatment.
