Анотація:
Dykes of calc-alkaline lamprophyre cutting granite of the Hercynian Jebilet Massif of the Moroccan Meseta (western Morocco) contain crustal xenoliths. The xenoliths range in composition from mafic (cognate cumulates) and upper crustal granitic rocks through gneisses to middle crustal felsic granulites. SHRIMP U–Th–Pb zircon analyses of these rocks indicate that the dykes were likely intruded during Middle Triassic times (∼235 Ma), whereas the xenoliths contain zircons with concordant Carboniferous–Early Permian, Neoproterozoic and Palaeoproterozoic ages (280–328 Ma, c. 540–615 Ma, 700 Ma and ∼2000 Ma). The 280–328 Ma ages appear to record synchronous intrusive and high-grade (up to granulite facies) Variscan metamorphic events, suggesting that high-grade metamorphism may have facilitated the S-type granitic magmatism. On the other hand, the ∼540–615 Ma, 700 Ma and 2000 Ma ages correspond with Pan-African and Eburnian orogenic events recorded in the West African Craton. In a Triassic reconstruction, Morocco is juxtaposed against Nova Scotia (Canada), and some have proposed that the basement of the easternmost terrane (Meguma terrane) is a piece of the West African craton. However, lower crustal xenoliths from Devonian dykes (∼370 Ma) cutting the Meguma terrane have yielded Late Devonian, Neo- and Mesoproterozoic ages (378 Ma, 575–629 Ma, ∼880–1050 Ma and ∼1530 Ma). The presence of ∼1 Ga ages suggests that the basement of the Meguma terrane is Avalonian rather than West African, implying that in a Pangean reconstruction, the Rheic Ocean suture between NW Africa and Maritime Canada coincides with the Atlantic Ocean.

BackgroundThe relationship between corticosteroid (GCs) treatment prior to temporal artery biopsy (TAB) and a negative result in giant cell arteritis (GCA) is controversial.ObjectivesTo assess whether cumulative GCs dose and time of steroid exposure influence in TAB result.MethodsObservational study of 191 patients diagnosed with GCA from a clinical practice of a referral center between January 2016 and December 2022 who underwent TAB. The diagnosis of GCA was made according toa) ACR criteria, and/orb) temporal artery biopsy, and/orc) EULAR/ACR2022 criteria, and/ord) imaging techniques. The biopsies were transversally sectioned into pieces and were cut from paraffin blocks and stained with hematoxilyn-eosin. A comparative study between patients with positive TAB and those with negative TAB was performed.ResultsThe 191 GCA patients were divided into 2 subgroups:a) patients with positive TAB (n=52), andb) patients with negative TAB (n=139)(Table 1) of whom 26 (13.6%) had not received prior corticosteroid therapy versus 165 (86.4%) patients who did. Patients with positive TAB had more frequently visual symptoms and/or jaw/lingual claudication, while polymyalgia rheumatica (PmR) was less frequent.The median dose [interquartile range (IQR) 25th-75th]in the negative TAB group was 40 [25-40] mg/day and also 40 [35-60] mg/day in the positive TAB group. The median duration [IQR] of treatment in the first group was 11 [4-24] days. while in the second group it was 7 [3-13] days. The percentage of positive TAB was higher the shorter the delay between GCs treatment onset and the TAB, decreasing after 15 days from GCs therapy onset(Figure 1). Finally, the cumulative pre-biopsy GCs dose was calculated with a median [IQR 25th-75th]of 484 [225-1295] mg for negative TAB patients while it was 760 [360-2185] mg in positive TAB cases.ConclusionMost patients with GCA were receiving GCs at the time of the TAB. Abstract Introduction Sodium oxybate (SXB) is a standard of care for the treatment of cataplexy and excessive daytime sleepiness in narcolepsy. JZP-258 is an oxybate product candidate with 92% less sodium. This analysis evaluated cataplexy-free days/week, as a measure of treatment impact, in a placebo-controlled randomized withdrawal study of JZP-258 treatment in patients with narcolepsy. Methods Treatment for cataplexy at study entry included 1) SXB (SXB-only); 2) SXB plus other anticataplectics (SXB+other); 3) anticataplectics other than SXB (other anticataplectics); or 4) cataplexy treatment-naive (anticataplectic-naive). Participants (aged 18-70 years with narcolepsy with cataplexy) began JZP-258 treatment during a 12-week, open-label, optimized treatment and titration period (OLOTTP), followed by a 2-week stable-dose period (SDP). Participants were randomized to receive placebo or continue JZP-258 treatment during a 2-week, double-blind, randomized withdrawal period (DBRWP). Results Of 201 enrolled participants, 134 comprised the efficacy population (placebo, n=65; JZP-258, n=69). Median (Q1, Q3) cataplexy-free days/week at first week of OLOTTP (while initiating JZP-258) by prior treatment were SXB-only, 5.8 (2.0, 7.0); SXB+other, 6.4 (5.0, 7.0); other anticataplectics, 4.0 (1.8, 6.0); anticataplectic-naive, 3.5 (0, 5.8). At end of SDP (on stable dose of JZP-258), median (Q1, Q3) cataplexy-free days/week were 6.0 (3.5, 7.0), 6.1 (1.4, 7.0), 6.0 (2.6, 7.0), and 6.2 (4.0, 7.0), respectively. Prior to randomization, there was no difference in median cataplexy-free days/week between participants to be randomized to placebo (6.0 [3.5, 7.0]) or JZP-258 treatment (6.0 [3.0, 7.0]); during DBRWP, median cataplexy-free days/week decreased in participants randomized to placebo (3.5 [0, 5.83]) but remained similar in participants randomized to continue JZP-258 treatment (5.6 [2.8, 7.0]). The overall safety profile of JZP-258 was similar to SXB. Conclusion Number of cataplexy-free days/week increased with JZP-258 treatment in participants previously naive to oxybate. Using polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) derived from the hydrolytic condensation of (3–methacryloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (MPMS), vinyltrimethoxysilane (VMS), and (3-glycidoxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPMS), three hybrid nanofilms, f-MP (film-MPMS-POSS), f-GP and f-VP, were prepared using sol-gel and crosslinking processes. The average transparency (AT) and absorption coefficents (AC) of the films were measured in the ranges of 280-2500 nm. Two film transparency applications are described in this work: 1) The AT values of the POSS films in the range of the ultraviolet B (UV-B) spectrum (280–320 nm) (a skin cancer-causing agent) and 2) the AT values in the visible light (VIS) region (400-750 nm) and the near infrared (NIR) region (750-2500 nm) (providing crops growth energy and the improvement of the photosynthetic process efficiency). The AT values of the POSS films in the UV-B range are only about 13%, indicating these films can provide a physical barrier to block UV-B absorption by the skin, and therefore are possible POSS materials for sunscreen ingredients. The AT values in the VIS region are 95.13%, 89.16% and 91.60%, respectively, and the AT values in the near infrared (NIR) region (750-2500 nm) are 95.39%, 93.11% and 90.50%, respectively. These high AT films are good candidates for greenhouse covers. The AT values among the three films in the 280-2500nm region are different and exhibit varied selectivity for absorbed spectra due to the dissimilar sizes of organic branches covalently bonded to the silica network in the film structure.

AbstractLLAMA (Large Latin America Millimeter/submillimeter Array) is a new radio observatory that is being constructed in a collaboration between Argentina and Brazil. It will consist of a 12 meters diameter antenna that is being installed in Alto Chorrillos at 4850 m of altitude, in the Salta province of Argentina. Alto Chorrillos is a high-quality astronomical site similar to Chajnantor (Chile), where ALMA observatory operates. When completed, LLAMA will allow line, continuum and linear polarization observations between 35 and 700 GHz, approximately. For the first light, LLAMA will be equipped with ALMA-like receivers at bands 5 (163 - 211 GHz), 6 (211 - 275 GHz) and 9 (602 - 720 GHz). LLAMA is being planned to be a versatile astronomical facility that will serve the scientific community for the exploration of scientific topics as diverse as the molecular evolution of the Universe, black holes and their accretion disks, astrophysical jets, stellar formation and evolution, the structure of our galaxy and the Sun, planetary atmospheres and extragalactic astronomy. In this work, I will present the LLAMA project and the perspectives for this new astronomical facility in the context of the investigation of galactic and extragalactic masers.

Cell-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) found in the circulation and body fluids contain biomolecules that could be used as biomarkers for lung and other diseases. EVs from bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) might be more informative of lung abnormalities than EVs from blood, where information might be diluted. To compare EVs’ characteristics in BAL and blood in smokers with and without COPD. Same-day BAL and blood samples were obtained in 9 nonsmokers (NS), 11 smokers w/o COPD (S), and 9 with COPD (SCOPD) (FEV1: 59 ± 3% pred). After differential centrifugation, EVs (200–500 nm diameter) were identified by flow cytometry and labeled with cell-type specific antigens: CD14 for macrophage-derived EVs, CD326 for epithelial-derived EVs, CD146 for endothelial-derived EVs, and CD62E for activated-endothelial-derived EVs. In BAL, CD14-EVs were increased in S compared to NS [384 (56–567) vs. 172 (115–282) events/μL; p = 0.007] and further increased in SCOPD [619 (224–888)] compared to both S (p = 0.04) and NS (p < 0.001). CD326-EVs were increased in S [760 (48–2856) events/μL, p < 0.001] and in SCOPD [1055 (194–11,491), p < 0.001] when compared to NS [15 (0–68)]. CD146-EVs and CD62E-EVs were similar in the three groups. In BAL, significant differences in macrophage and epithelial-derived EVs can be clearly detected between NS, S and SCOPD, while these differences were not found in plasma. This suggests that BAL is a better medium than blood to study EVs in lung diseases.

З метою оптимізації системи удобрення озимої пшениці були проведені польові дослідження на темно-сірому опідзоленому ґрунті в умовах Західного Лісостепу України. Ґрунт дослідної ділянки темно-сірий опідзолений легкосуглинковий з вмістом гумусу 2,5–2,6 %. Погодні умови в роки досліджень були досить контрастними і відрізнялися від середньобагаторічних даних як за сумою опадів, так і за рівнем температури. За рік у 2018 році випало 760 мм, у 2019 році – 818 мм, у 2020 році 710 мм за середньобагаторічного показника 615 мм. Кількість опадів у червні 2018 р. та у травні 2019 р. створювали умови надмірного зволоження, що призвело до зниження врожайності. Температура повітря в роки досліджень не була обмежувальним чинником росту врожайності. У 2018 році середньомісячна температура становила 8,8 С, у 2019 році 9,1 С, у 2020 році 9,4 С, за середньобагаторічного показника 7,8 С. Вивчали вплив азотних (N180), фосфорних (P60), калійних (K90), сірчаних (S30), магнієвих (Mg20) добрив та листкове внесення мікродобрива Інтермаг зернові (2 л/га). Під впливом добрив змінилися показники структури врожаю, зокрема кількість колосів зросла з 480 шт./м2 на контролі до 642 шт./м2 за найвищої норми добрив, маса зерна з колоса, відповідно, з 0,78 г до 1,48 г. Урожайність зерна озимої пшениці сорту Кубус зросла з 3,64 т/га у варіанті без добрив до 9,14 т/га за внесення N180P60K90S30Mg20 + Мікродобриво Інтермаг, тобто на 5,50 т/га, або на 151,1 %. Найбільший приріст зерна забезпечили азотні добрива – 2,94 т/га (80,8 %). Фосфорні добрива забезпечили передусім кращий розвиток кореневої системи та збільшили кількість зерен у колосі, внаслідок цього урожайність зросла до 7,41 т/га, або на 0,83 т/га. Приріст урожайності на 0,64 т/га під впливом калійних добрив відбувся також за рахунок кращої озерненості колоса. Від внесення калію, фосфору, сірки, магнію та мікродобрива урожайність зросла на 2,56 т/га (70,3 %).

Gagal Ginjal Kronis adalah kondisi ketidaknormalan penurunan fungsi ginjal. Laporan Kasus ini berfokus pada kondisi pasien yang mengalami gagal ginjal kronis dengan kondisi hiperkalemia. Pasien mengalami hipertensi dengan tekanan darah 180/ 90 mmHg, saturasi oksigen 92%. Pasien mengeluhkan lemas, nyeri ulu hati, mual, tidak mau makan, kulit gatal dan bengkak pada kedua kaki. Hasil laboratorium darah diketahui nilai Leukosit yaitu 6,2×103/µl, Ureum 255 mg/dL, Kreatinin 7,2 mg/dl , Natrium 138 mmol/L , Kalium 7,0 mmol/L, serta Hemoglobin 6,3 g/dl dan diagnosa adalah CKD stage V.

In laboratory experiments with larvae of the shredding caddisfly Clistoronia magnifica, toxicity of nickel chloride hexahydrate was highly pH dependent. Larvae were exposed from first instar until pupation to three nickel concentrations (55, 215, 700 μg Ni2+/L) in soft water adjusted to pH 4.1, 5.5, and 6.2. Nickel reduced the survival of larvae and pupae at all pH levels but toxicity decreased with increasing H+ concentration. In addition, Ni at 215 μg/L temporarily ameliorated H+ toxicity to early instar larvae at pH 4.1. Reduced toxicity with decreasing pH fits the hypothesis that free metal ions compete with H+ for the same binding–uptake sites. Available data suggest that this phenomenon is not restricted to a particular metal or organism but that it applies to pH–metal interactions in general.

The material for the research were publications of scientists, reporting documentation of ZHRSLSPS, RSLSPS, SLVSE of Zhytomyr and Zhytomyr region, food samples. Radiological studies were performed on the device USC Gamma-plus № 0502 BG. The content of radionuclides in mushrooms was determined on RUG-91. In 2020, 210183 samples were tested, including 90 in excess. As in previous years, the excess was found in 19 samples of milk from the Narodytsya district (103–180 Bq/kg). The gifts of the forest remain the most polluted. The specific activity of 3 samples of fresh mushrooms from Novohrad-Volynskyi district was 610 Bq/kg, 642 Bq/kg, and 819 Bq/kg (with DR 500 Bq/kg), 4 samples from Yemilchyn district – 531–761 Bq/kg, 2 samples from Luhyny district – 760 Bq/kg and 827 Bq/kg. The most significant number of exceedances in the level of contamination of fresh mushrooms was found in Narodytsky, Ovruch, Malyn, and Olevsk districts, slightly less – in Luhyny. In particular, of the 25 samples of fresh mushrooms from Narodytsya district, 23 (621–2000 Bq/kg, DR exceeded 1.2–4 times) were detected, 28 % of fresh mushroom samples in Ovruch district were exceeded at 530–916 Bq/kg, of the 48 samples from Olevsk district exceedances were in 3 samples and, accordingly, their specific activity was at the level of 983 Bq/kg, 1994 Bq/kg and 2125 Bq/kg, i.e., 1.1, 3.9 and 4 times higher for DR-2006. In Malyn district, 50 % of samples of fresh mushrooms showed an excess of 631–1450 Bq/kg (1.3–2.9 times). In the Luhyny district, the excess was found in 18 % of samples (760 Bq/kg – 827 Bq/kg). The specific activity of samples of dried mushrooms from Novohrad-Volynskyi district was 2725 and 3018 Bq/kg, respectively, Yemilchynsky – 2608–3080 Bq/kg, Ovruch – 2820 Bq/kg and 2850 Bq/kg, Narodytsky – 3425 Bq/kg. The specific activity of 2 samples of wild animal meat from Narodytskyi district was 800 and 1400 Bq/kg (exceeding 2–3.5 times), 1 sample from Ovruch – 433 Bq/kg. Of the 109 samples of beekeeping products studied during this period, exceedances were detected in 1.8 %, the specific activity was 264 Bq/kg (Narodytskyi district) and 1920 Bq/kg (Ovruch district), respectively. In 2020, no excesses were found in samples of other products. Given that the consumption of food, even with low specific activity, leads to an increase in internal exposure, the research results indicate a threat to the health of present and future generations and the need for decision-making at the state level.

The leakage and fatigue characteristics of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) are investigated for flexible electronics. The crystallization, frequency responses, leakage currents, current-voltage characteristics, and fatigue characteristics of PVDF film are measured using X-ray diffraction and an electrometer. Results show that a PVDF model with a resistive load exhibits high-pass filter characteristics. The frequency band of PVDF film increases with increasing resistive load and capacitance. The break frequencies for 100 kΩ, 300 kΩ, 700 kΩ, and 1 MΩ at the break frequency are 611, 207, 88, and 61 Hz, respectively. The hysteresis area of ΔH slightly increases with increasing input voltage. The leakage current of PVDF film is higher for a lower delay time under a given applied electric field. The average leakage currents for delay times of 10 and 1000 ms are 0.565 and 73.8 pA, respectively. The magnitude of the current values increases with decreasing delay time at a given drive voltage. PVDF film induced larger degradation when the number of stress cycles was increased to about 105 cumulative cycles.

The synthesis and characterization of a soluble metal-free polyethyleneoxide-capped phthalocyanine and the corresponding lead compound are described. This phthalocyanine was designed to allow the formation of dimers but to inhibit formation of higher aggregates. The monomer/dimer equilibrium constant in chloroform solutions is 750 ± 20 l mol -1. No evidence for higher aggregates was found. The molecular extinction coefficient of the metal-free polyethyleneoxide-capped phthalocyanine in chloroform is one of the lowest known (2.5 × 104 l mol -1 cm -1). The lead-substituted material was demonstrated to be a reverse saturable absorber from 532 nm to about 610 nm. It possesses a large nonlinear absorption coefficient in the visible and is a promising optical limiter material.

The effects of β phase decomposition on recrystallization and texture variation in Zr-2.5% Nb alloy pressure tube material were investigated. Isothermal annealing was conducted at 350 to 550 <sup>o</sup>C for 240 hours, and isothermal annealing was performed at 500 <sup>o</sup>C for 240 to 3,000 hours. The recrystallization and texture variation were analyzed by inverse pole figure variation using the XRD and EBSD methods. Annealing in α-Zr region at below 610 <sup>o</sup>C induced recrystallization and texture variation in the α-Zr. These results differ from those from a previous annealing study of the α+β region at 750-830 <sup>o</sup>C. Annealing above 400 <sup>o</sup>C for 240 hours caused β-Zr decomposition into β-Nb. The decomposition of the β-phase by annealing above 475 <sup>o</sup>C caused a contraction of 7.5% in the d(110) spacing in the β-phase, and a reduction in the volume fraction of the β phase by about 80%. It seems that the stress internally formed by the lattice contraction of the β-phase provides the driving force for recrystallization. In addition, it suggests that the newly formed α-Zr produced by β phase decomposition provides new nucleation sites for recrystallization and causes texture variation in the α-Zr. The reason why the recrystallization and the texture variation occurs only in the α-Zr stable region at below 610 <sup>o</sup>C is discussed.

The composition of milk from early pouch life (0-40 days) to weaning (360 days) was determined in samples collected from a field population of red kangaroos, Macropus rufus (n = 150). Total milk solids increased from 11% at 0-40 days to 26% at permanent emergence from the pouch (235 days), then decreased towards weaning. Compared with other macropodids, milk from red kangaroos is relatively dilute. Carbohydrate concentrations increased from 2.0 to 6.2% at about Day 235 then declined while lipid concentrations increased from 3.9 to 10.3% over the course of lactation. Protein values increased from 5.0 to 7.0% prior to pouch emergence. Whey proteins were separated by means of SDS PAGE, identifying and confirming the presence of several phase-specific proteins. These results are similar to those reported for components of milk in captive red kangaroos and therefore confirm the general macropodid pattern of changing milk composition throughout lactation for a field population of red kangaroos.

Tuberculosis is caused by mycobacterium, a potentially fatal infectious bacterium. In recent years, TB cases increased in the whole world. WHO statistics data shows that the world’s annual tuberculosis incidence was 8~10 million with about 3 million deaths. Several studies have shown that susceptibility to tuberculosis may be associated with IFNGR1 gene polymorphisms. Here, we report the distribution frequency of IFNGR1 gene polymorphisms in 103 cases of IGA-negative patients and 100 cases of IGA-positive patients from China by sequencing the IFNGR1 proximal ~750 bp promoter region. We found a total of 5 types of site mutations: -611 (G/A), -56 (T/C), -255 (C/T), -359 (T/C), and -72 (C/T). The two main types of gene polymorphisms among the IGA-negative and IGA-positive groups were -611 (G/A), with mutation rates of 88.3% and 78.4%, respectively, and -56 (T/C), with mutation rates of 84.5% and 83.8%, respectively, which had no statistical significance, and there was no correlation with the incidence of tuberculosis.

Chip size distribution is important in kraft pulping, as it affects chemical use, quality, and yield in pulp production. Pinus taeda logs with two storage periods (0 and 2 weeks) and two log lengths (2.4 and 7.0 m) were processed with a disc chipper. Logs stored for two weeks produced chips with 7% less moisture than logs with no storage period. The storage period significantly influenced the quantities of overthick, accept, pin, and fines classes. Logs stored for two weeks produced 1.7% more overthick, 3.8% more pin, and 1.1% fines than logs with no stocking period. Consequently, the amount of accept produced was 6.2% higher for chips from processing freshly harvested logs. Log length influenced the produced quantities of oversize, overthick, and accept. Logs with a length of 2.4 m produced chips with 1.4% more oversize, 2.5% more overthick, and 4.6% less accept, compared to 7.0 m logs. Thus, it was concluded that Pinus taeda logs with shorter storage periods and longer lengths generate more chips in the “accept” class.

Background—Several methods to reduce radiation exposure in the setting of coronary procedures are available on the market, and we previously showed that additional radiation shields reduce operator exposure during radial interventions. We set out to examine the efficacy of real-time personal dosimetry monitoring in a real-world setting of radial artery catheterization. Methods and Results—In an all-comer prospective, parallel study, consecutive coronary diagnostic and intervention procedures were performed with the use of standard radiation shield alone (control group) or with the addition of a real-time dosimetry monitoring system (Raysafe, Billdal, Sweden, monitoring group). The primary outcome was the difference in exposure of the primary operator among groups. Additional endpoints included patient, nurse, second operator exposure and fluoroscopy time. A total of 700 procedures were included in the analysis (n = 369 in the monitoring group). There were no differences among groups in patients’ body mass index (p = 0.232), type of procedure (intervention vs. diagnostic, p = 0.172), and patient sex (p = 0.784). Fluoroscopy time was shorter in the monitoring group (5.6 (5.1–6.2) min vs. 7.0 (6.1–7.7) min, p = 0.023). Radiation exposure was significantly lower in the monitoring group for the patient (135 (115–151) µSv vs. 208 (176–245) µSv, p < 0.0001) but not for the first operator (9 (7–11) µSv vs. 10 (8–11), p = 0.70) and the assistant (2 (1–2) µSv vs. 2 (1–2) µSv, p = 0.121). Conclusions—In clinical daily practice, the use of a real-time dosimetry monitoring device reduces patient radiation exposure and fluoroscopy time without an effect on operator radiation exposure.

In order to understand the micro-interfacial relationship between environmental copper ions and loosely bound extracellular polymeric substances (LB-EPS), a fluorescence titration of LB-EPS from the Hongfeng lake sediment by Cu (Ⅱ) was studied. Results showed that Cu (Ⅱ) could debase the fluorescence intensity (FI) of LB-EPS. Titration of LB-EPS by Cu (Ⅱ) at pH values of 4.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 9.0 demonstrated an obvious variety of wavelength spectra. The FI of LB-EPS reacting with Cu (Ⅱ) (2.5×10-4M), with the increase of pH values, decreased, which was attributed to more conjunct capacity of the fluorophore with Cu (Ⅱ) in alkaline conditions. At low or middle pH, the quenching of LB-EPS by Cu (Ⅱ) was attributed to the complex quenching triggered by ligand processes; and in the high pH the cause of quenching was not only linked to complex quenching, but also related to collision quenching.

RESUMO Devido à carência de informações sobre tecnologia de aplicação na horticultura, objetivou-se com essa pesquisa avaliar o efeito de três técnicas de aplicação em diferentes partes do dossel do tomateiro cultivado em ambiente protegido. As técnicas avaliadas foram 1= Lança manual com duas pontas de jato cone vazio, JA-2 (700 kPa), taxa de aplicação de 618 L ha-1; 2= Barra vertical com seis pontas de jato cone vazio, ATR 0.5 (700 kPa), taxa de aplicação de 493 L ha-1; 3= Barra vertical com seis pontas de jato plano simples, AXI 11002 (400 kPa), taxa de aplicação de 1442 L ha-1. Como indicadores de qualidade da aplicação, foram mensurados o depósito relativo (quantitativo) e a cobertura (qualitativa) das folhas do tomateiro nas posições de coleta interna e externa das plantas, nos estratos superior, médio e inferior do dossel do tomateiro. Nos estratos inferior e médio do dossel, o depósito relativo foi respectivamente 21% e 34% menor na parte interna das plantas em relação à externa, porém no estrato superior não houve diferença. Em média a cobertura foi 2,5 vezes menor na superfície abaxial em relação a adaxial. A técnica de aplicação Lança manual (618 L ha-1), utilizada na lavoura comercial, proporcionou melhor qualidade da aplicação. No entanto, há necessidade de otimização das técnicas de aplicação no intuito de proporcionar melhor distribuição da pulverização, principalmente nas regiões críticas, como a parte interna das plantas nos estratos inferior e médio do dossel e a superfície abaxial das folhas.

The effect of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP, MW = 130,000) molar content, PVP/Lu = 1, 2.5, 4 and 5; on the photoluminescent and structural properties of sol-gel derived Lu2O3:Eu3+, Bi3+ has been analyzed. Thin hybrid films were deposited by means of the dip-coating technique on silica quartz substrates. Films deposited at 700 °C presented a cubic structure, with non-preferential orientation, even with the presence of PVP. The photoluminescence (PL) spectrum and Comission Internationale de l’Éclairage (CIE) chromaticity diagram of films revealed a reddish Eu3+ emission at 612 nm (5D0 →7F2) with an excitation at 320 nm of the Bi ions (6s2→6s6p), showing a highly-effective energy transfer process form Bi3+ to Eu3+ luminescent centers. On the other hand, the color temperature of the samples is strongly dependent on the PVP content, as a consequence of the observed difference on the branching ratios of 5D0 →7FJ transitions of europium ions. Lifetime studies present two different behaviors for the thin films: A non-exponential nature for the lower PVP contents, and a simple exponential nature for the highest PVP one, showing that the PVP tends to promote a better dissolution of segregates and, therefore, increases the lifetime of the Eu3+ emission.

Diamond windows were heated at 700-900 °C in air for short times to better define the limits of application at high temperature. The infrared (IR) transmission of polished chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond windows was reduced after heating in a furnace at 800 °C for 75 s, while heating at 700 °C for 75 s produced little change. The 800 °C heating caused increased visible light scatter, and increased scatter appears to be mainly responsible for the reduced IR transmission. The forward scatter at 10.6 μm for the CVD diamond samples was 0.8% before heating, 2.8% after heating at 800 °C for 75 s, and 6.2% after heating at 800 °C for 255 s. Single crystal (110) type IIa diamond exhibited little change in IR transmission when heated at 800 °C in air for 255 s, while heating for 555 s at 800 °C caused a significant drop in IR transmittance (6-12%). A slight drop in IR transmittance (1-5%) occurred for a type IIa diamond when heated at 900 °C for 45 s. The etched surfaces were characterized by differential interference contrast optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Talystep surface profiles. Etched features are concentrated at grain boundaries (for the CVD samples) and at sites with residual damage from mechanical polishing that could not be seen before the heat treatment. Deep etch pits formed at grain boundaries that extend into the bulk of samples.

Abstract One drought mitigation strategy is transporting livestock to non-drought locations. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of prenatal stress and translocation on growing Bos indicus heifers. Twelve heifers born in spring 2019 at Overton, TX (1245 mm annual precipitation) were transported ~700 km to Sonora, TX (610 mm annual precipitation) in April 2020. Six heifers (283±10 kg) were born to dams subjected to transportation stress during mid-gestation (PNS) and 6 (279±17 kg) were born to non-stressed dams (CON). Heifers grazed a series of 24-ha native range pastures (aboveground forage biomass; 1508±390 kg/ha) and were sampled (non-shrunk BW/BCS score, feces) at 2-wk intervals from May through September. Fecal samples were collected from the ground or the rectum of each animal and stored at -20o C until processed for near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and prediction of diet crude protein (CP) and digestible organic matter (DOM). Inputs to a grazing animal nutrition model for prediction of BW included diet CP and DOM, age, and weather. Differences between groups for BW and nutritional parameters were determined by analysis of variance or paired t-test. Both groups gained BW (22±4 kg) throughout the study, there were no differences (P &gt; 0.1) due to treatment. Diet CP and DOM were affected by date (P &lt; 0.01) as diet quality declined from spring to fall. Percent diet CP was greater (P &lt; 0.05) in PNS than CON, especially during July and August (6.94±0.10 vs 6.23±0.17, respectively). Corresponding values for diet DOM were (59.53±0.55 vs 59.14±0.43, respectively; P = 0.09). Observed vs model-predicted weight was different (P &lt; 0.05) for both groups when using CP-based outputs, but not when using metabolizable protein-based outputs (P &gt; 0.1). In summary, PNS heifers selected a diet of greater CP than CON, and tended to select a diet greater in DOM.

Abstract Background: The MATISSE trials demonstrated that once-daily subcutaneous fondaparinux, a synthetic selective factor Xa inhibitor, was at least as effective and as safe as standard therapies in the initial treatment of deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). Since obesity is a risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE), we analyzed the MATISSE data from the subpopulation of obese patients (body-mass index, BMI ≥30 kg/m2). Methods: Fondaparinux was administered at a once-daily subcutaneous dose of 7.5 mg (5.0 mg and 10.0 mg in patients <50 kg and >100 kg, respectively). In the MATISSE-DVT trial, fondaparinux was compared with twice-daily subcutaneous enoxaparin (1 mg/kg) in patients with DVT. In the MATISSE-PE trial, it was compared with adjusted-dose intravenous unfractionated heparin (UFH) in patients with PE. All drugs were given for at least 5 days and until anticoagulation with oral anticoagulants was therapeutic. The primary efficacy and safety outcomes were recurrent VTE during 3 months’ follow-up and major bleeding (MB) and death during the initial treatment period. Results: The percentage of obese patients was 26.3% in MATISSE-DVT and 28.7% in MATISSE-PE (Tables). In both MATISSE-DVT and -PE, efficacy and safety data from obese patients were similar to those from non-obese patients (BMI <30kg/m2). The rates of recurrent VTE and MB in obese patients were not significantly different between fondaparinux and either enoxaparin (MATISSE-DVT) or UFH (MATISSE-PE). Conclusion: Once-daily fondaparinux is at least as effective and as safe as standard therapies in the initial treatment of DVT or PE in obese patients. Twenty novel pyrimidine derivatives were synthesized from 2,5-dichloro-3-acetylthienyl chalcones by reacting with guanidine HCl in presence of KOH and ethanol under reflux for 6 h. Their structural characterizations were evaluated by ATR-FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectroscopy. They were also screened for antifungal, antitubercular and cytotoxicity activities. They were displayed good antifungal activity (MIC = 32-125 μg/mL) against Aspergillus niger and Candida tropicalis fungal species except compound 15 with 4"-pyridinyl moiety (MIC = 8.00 μg/mL) being more potent. Compound 5 with 2",4"-dichlorophenyl moiety was shown with good antitubercular activity (MIC = 6.2 μg/mL) against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (MTB) stain. They have also tested for in vitro cytotoxicity activity against DU-145 prostate cancer cell lines. In which the compound 15 with 4"-pyridinyl moiety (IC50 = 2.0 ± 0.1 μg/mL) and compound 17 with 2"-pyrrolyl moiety (IC50 = 6.0 ± 0.1 μg/mL) possess highly potent antiprostate cancer properties. The molecular docking was done with the crystalline structure of mitochondrial 2-enoyl thioester reductase Etr1p/Etr2p heterodimer from Candida tropicalis fungal species with compound 15 (-7.80 kcal/mol) and shown greater binding affinity than fluconazole (-7.60 kcal/mol). Docking was performed with protein crystalline structure (PDB ID: 2WEE) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv (MTB) stain and among all, compound 5 was exhibited good binding affinity (-6.90 kcal/mol), compared to pyrazinamide (-4.10 kcal/mol). The protein crystalline structure of a mutant androgen receptor (AR) ligand-binding domain (LBD) (PDB file: 1GS4) was tested with compounds 15 and 17 (-7.60 and -8.20 kcal/mol). They were exhibited good binding properties compared to methotrexate (-5.10 kcal/mol). Hence, these novel pyrimidine compounds are as lead compounds as antifungal, antitubercular and cytotoxic agents.

Abstract Tissue factor–induced blood coagulation was studied in 20 individuals, for varying periods of time during 54 months, in contact pathway–inhibited whole blood at 37°C and evaluated in terms of the activation of various substrates. After quenching over time with inhibitors, the soluble phases were analyzed for thrombin–antithrombin III (TAT) complex formation, prothrombin fragments, platelet activation (osteonectin release), factor Va generation, fibrinopeptide (FP) A and FPB release, and factor XIII activation. TAT complex formation, for 35 experiments, showed an initiation phase (up to 4.6 ± 0.6 minutes) in which thrombin was generated at an average rate of 0.93 ± 0.3 nM/min catalyzed by about 1.3 pM prothrombinase yielding approximately 26 nM thrombin. During a subsequent propagation phase, thrombin was generated at a rate of 83.9 ± 3.8 nM/min by about 120 pM prothrombinase, reaching ultimate levels of 851 ± 53 nM. Clot time, determined subjectively, occurred at 4.7 ± 0.2 minutes and correlated with the inception of the propagation phase. The thrombin concentrations associated with the transitions to rapid product formation are 510 ± 180 pM for platelet activation (1.9 ± 0.2 minutes), 840 ± 280 pM for factor XIII activation and factor Va generation (2.2 ± 0.6 minutes), 1.3 ± 0.4 nM for FPA release (2.5 ± 0.7 minutes), 1.7 ± 0.5 nM for FPB release and prethrombin 2 (2.8 ± 0.8 minutes), 7.0 ± 2.2 nM for thrombin B chain (3.6 ± 0.2 minutes), and 26 ± 6.2 nM for the propagation phase of TAT formation (4.6 ± 0.6 minutes). These results illustrate that the initial activation of thrombin substrates occurs during the initiation phase at less than 2 nM thrombin (0.2%). Most thrombin (96%) is formed well after clotting occurs.

IntroductionIt has been hypothesized that lowered antioxidant capacity, which leads to increased oxidative stress, may be involved in the pathophysiology of major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety disorders and might be altered by antidepressant treatment.ObjectivesThis study investigated the association of plasma uric acid, the greatest contributor to blood antioxidant capacity, with MDD, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, panic disorder, agoraphobia and antidepressants in a large cohort.MethodsData was derived from the Netherlands Study of Depression and Anxiety including patients with current (n = 1648) or remitted (n = 609) MDD and/or anxiety disorder(s) (of which n = 710 antidepressant users) and 618 controls. Diagnoses were established with the Composite Interview Diagnostic Instrument. Symptom severity was ascertained in all participants with the Inventory of Depressive Symptoms and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. ANCOVA and regression analyses were adjusted for sociodemographic, health and lifestyle variables.ResultsPlasma uric acid was lower in those with current MDD and/or anxiety disorder(s) (adjusted mean 270 μmol/L) compared to those with remitted disorders (280 μmol/L, P < 0.001) or to controls (281 μmol/L, P < 0.001; Cohen's d 0.14). Within patients antidepressants were not associated with uric acid levels. Increasing symptom severity was associated with lower uric acid levels for both depression (β = –0.05, P = 0.001) and anxiety symptoms (β = –0.05, P = 0.004).ConclusionThis large scale study finds that the antioxidant uric acid is lower in current, but not remitted, MDD or anxiety disorders and in persons with higher symptom severity, suggesting disturbances in redox homeostasis play a role in the pathophysiology of depression and anxiety disorders.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

AbstractObservational studies have suggested that 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) levels are associated with inflammatory markers. Most trials reporting significant associations between vitamin D intake and inflammatory markers used specific patient groups. Thus, we aimed to determine the effect of supplementary vitamin D using secondary data from a population-based, randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind trial (Pilot D-Health trial 2010/0423). Participants were 60- to 84-year-old residents of one of the four eastern states of Australia. They were randomly selected from the electoral roll and were randomised to one of three trial arms: placebo (n 214), 750 μg (n 215) or 1500 μg (n 215) vitamin D3, each taken once per month for 12 months. Post-intervention blood samples for the analysis of C-reactive protein (CRP), IL-6, IL-10, leptin and adiponectin levels were available for 613 participants. Associations between intervention group and biomarker levels were evaluated using quantile regression. There were no statistically significant differences in distributions of CRP, leptin, adiponectin, leptin:adiponectin ratio or IL-10 levels between the placebo group and either supplemented group. The 75th percentile IL-6 level was 2·8 pg/ml higher (95 % CI 0·4, 5·8 pg/ml) in the 1500 μg group than in the placebo group (75th percentiles:11·0 v. 8·2 pg/ml), with a somewhat smaller, non-significant difference in 75th percentiles between the 750 μg and placebo groups. Despite large differences in serum 25(OH)D levels between the three groups after 12 months of supplementation, we found little evidence of an effect of vitamin D supplementation on cytokine or adipokine levels, with the possible exception of IL-6.

Abstract Excess risk for mortality in hospitalized adults with COVID-19 has been linked to extant chronic conditions, especially obesity (Obes), diabetes (DM) or combination (ObesDM). We investigated dose-response interactions between Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI) and comorbidity ensembles including Obes, DM, ObesDM or Control. Presentation demographics, putative COVID-19 severity markers, and administrative data including ICD-10 codes to measure ECI (AHRQ, v2022.1, 0-38 categories) were extracted under IRB exemption from electronic medical records. Youden's J statistic identified ECI35 prognostic of mortality. Bootstrap Forest (BF) estimated explained variance (EV%) in mortality provided by ECI and comorbidity ensembles including Obes, DM, or ObesDM. Continuous data summarized with median [IQR] were compared using Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA. Discrete data summarized as proportions were compared with chi-squared test. Confounders statistically balanced included age, sex, race, COVID-19 directed treatment and 4-surges of local pandemic. Significant p-value (.013) was Bonferroni corrected. Among 4,275 consecutive COVID-19 patients discharged between March 14, 2020 and September 30, 2021, there were 834 (Obes), 730 (DM), 610 (ObesDM) and 2,101 (Control). Intergroup results are reported using same sequence. Pooled age 69[56-79] years, among 45% females was distributed across Whites (78%), Blacks (10%) and other (12%) races. Additional chronic conditions exhibiting intergroup differences (p&lt;.013) included pooled hypertension (47%, 65%, 58%, 55%), pooled kidney disease (10%, 38%, 25%, 17%), deficiency anemias (19%, 27%, 29%, 23%), chronic pulmonary disease (20%, 19%, 25%, 24%), pooled neurological disorders (14%, 22%, 23%, 23%), heart failure (12%, 21%, 26%, 14%), pooled thyroid disease (16%, 18%, 16%, 17%), coagulopathy (14%, 15%, 14%, 18%) and depression (17%, 16%, 17%, 19%). ECI was 3[2-5], 4[3-6], 5[4-7], vs 3[2-5] (p&lt;.013). ECI accounted for 81% of EV in mortality versus comorbidity ensembles including Obes (11%), ObesDM (4%) or DM (4%). Obes, DM, ObesDM or Control patients with ECI35 vs not exhibited mortality of 25 vs 9% (p&lt;.001), 13 vs 7% (p=.01), 22 vs 7% (p&lt;.001) or 15 vs 6% (p=.01). Statistically equivalent inflammatory markers included CRP (8.2[4.2-13.5], 7.0[2.8-12.5], 9.6[4.8-15.2], 6.3[2.3-11.8] mg/dL, LDH (366[273-488], 322[246-429], 352[264-477], 295[222-392] U/L), ferritin (565[236-1150], 563[255-1166], 549[245-990], 435[200-931] ng/mL) and D-dimer (0.84 [0.53-1.67], 1.04[0.60-1.97], 0.89[0.50-1.78], 1.01[0.56-2.05] mg/mL. Metabolic markers exhibited intergroup differences (p&lt;.013) including cholesterol 151[104-173], 137[104-164], 142[113-179], 143[113-178] mg/dL, triglycerides (161[109-258], 146[100-217], 179[122-252], 120[85-182] mg/dL) and serum glucose 113[101-128], 156[119-229], 158[119-229], 172[126-239] mg/dL. ICU admission was 24%, 19%, 31%, 16% with ObesDM and Obes p&lt;.013 vs DM and control. In conclusion, we found dose of comorbidities in hospitalized COVID-19 patients was more strongly associated with mortality than confounder balanced Obes, DM, or ObesDM. Further investigation is warranted to characterize subgroups with varied response to increasing polymorbidity. Eu3+-doped GdAlO3 (Eu:GAP) and Gd0.5La0.5AlO3 (Eu:GLAP) perovskite single crystals were successfully grown using the optical floating zone (OFZ) method. The microstructure, optical, photoluminescence (PL) and radioluminescence (under X-ray excitation, XEL) were investigated. Under the PL excitation of 275 nm, obvious emission bands peaking at 556 nm, 592 nm, 617 nm, 625 nm, 655 nm, and 706 nm were demonstrated, which correspond to the 5D0 → 7Fj (j = 0–4) transitions of Eu3+. The grown Eu:GAP single crystal showed a stronger PL intensity compared with that of Eu:GLAP in the red light region. After annealing at 1000 °C for 4 h in weak reductive atmosphere (Ar + 5% H2), a slight redshift and dramatic enhancement of PL and XEL intensity occurred. In addition, Eu:GLAP show a more intense XEL emission than that of Eu:GAP. Considering their different densities, these two kinds of red luminescence phosphors are proposed to be promising in a wide field of X-ray imaging, warm white, or plant lighting, respectively.

BackgroundPatients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA) can experience a significant burden due to the pain, fatigue and impaired physical function resulting from the disease.[1]ObjectivesTo assess how achievement of increasingly stringent clinical response criteria and lower disease activity levels translates into improvements in physical function, sleep and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with axSpA.MethodsThis post hoc analysis reports results from the phase 3 studies, BE MOBILE 1 (NCT03928704; non-radiographic axSpA [nr-axSpA]) and BE MOBILE 2 (NCT03928743; radiographic axSpA [r-axSpA], i.e., ankylosing spondylitis[2]) at Week (Wk) 52. In BE MOBILE 1, patients met the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis international Society (ASAS) classification criteria for axSpA and had elevated C-reactive protein and/or MRI sacroiliitis. In BE MOBILE 2, patients had radiographic sacroiliitis, fulfilling modified New York criteria. All patients who completed Wk 52 and reached specified clinical response criteria (ASAS: ASAS20 not reached [<ASAS20], ASAS20 reached but not ASAS40 [ASAS20–<ASAS40], ASAS40 reached [ASAS40];ASAS-PR: Yes, No;BASDAI50: Yes, No),ASDAS(≥2.1, ≥1.3–<2.1, <1.3) orASDAS responses(major improvement [change from baseline ≥2.0], clinically important improvement [change ≥1.1 but <2.0], non-response [change <1.1]) were pooled regardless of their original treatment arm (placebo then BKZ from Wk 16 or continuous BKZ 160 mg Q4W; all subcutaneous BKZ), by study. Associations between achievement of these clinical responses and improvements in patient-reported measures of physical function (BASFI;SF-36 PCS), sleep (MOS Sleep-R Index;12 item measure, higher scores reflect more of the attribute implied by the scale) and HRQoL (ASQoL) were assessed. Observed case data are reported.ResultsMost patients completed Wk 52 (nr-axSpA: 220/254 [86.6%]; r-axSpA: 298/332 [89.8%]). Baseline demographics and disease characteristics were generally similar between nr-axSpA and r-axSpA patients, aside from gender, HLA-B27 status, symptom duration and time since first diagnosis, indicating similar burden of symptom severity, reduced physical function and HRQoL.Across studies, patients achieving increasingly stringent ASAS responses presented sequentially greater mean (95% confidence interval) improvements from baseline in BASFI (Figure 1) and SF-36 PCS score (nr-axSpA: <ASAS20: 5.1 [2.5, 7.7], ASAS20–<ASAS40: 9.5 [7.1, 11.8], ASAS40: 14.6 [13.1, 16.2]; r-axSpA: 5.9 [4.1, 7.7], 8.4 [6.6, 10.2], 14.6 [13.3, 15.9]). Achievement of higher ASAS response was also associated with sequentially greater mean improvements from baseline in MOS Sleep-R index scores (nr-axSpA: <ASAS20: 3.6 [1.3, 6.0], ASAS20–<ASAS40: 3.9 [1.6, 6.2], ASAS40: 9.0 [7.4, 10.6]; r-axSpA: 0.7 [−1.2, 2.6], 4.9 [2.5, 7.3], 8.2 [7.2, 9.3]) and ASQoL (nr-axSpA: <ASAS20: −2.2 [−3.7, −0.7], ASAS20–<ASAS40: −4.3 [−5.5, −3.2], ASAS40: −7.2 [−7.9, −6.5]; r-axSpA: −2.0 [−3.0, −1.1], −4.3 [−5.1, −3.4], −6.9 [−7.5, −6.3]). Similar sequential improvements from baseline in BASFI, SF-36 PCS, MOS-Sleep R index and ASQoL were observed with achievement of ASAS-PR, BASDAI50, and ASDAS-related outcome measures. Improvements in BASFI, SF-36 PCS, MOS Sleep-R index and ASQoL were of similar amplitude between nr-axSpA and r-axSpA patients.ConclusionPatients with nr-axSpA and r-axSpA who achieved increasingly stringent clinical response criteria and lower levels of disease activity at Wk 52 reported greater improvements in physical function, sleep function and HRQoL. Abstract Aim This study compared the effect of different resistance training (RT) frequencies on total, android, gynoid and trunk body fat in overweight/obese older women. Methods Fifty-seven overweight/obese older women (66.9±5.3 years and 39.9±4.9% body fat) were randomly assigned to one of three groups: a group performing RT twice a week (G2X), a group performing RT three times a week (G3X), or a non-exercise control group (CG). Both training groups performed the same 12-week RT program consisting of 8 exercises that trained all major muscle groups. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to assess body composition. Results After the intervention period, both G2X and G3X demonstrated significant (P<0.05) reductions in adiposity compared to the CG for total body fat (G2X=–1.7%, G3X=–2.7%, CG=+2.1%), android fat (G2X=–6.2%, G3X=–7.0%, CG=+8.6%), gynoid fat (G2X=–2.5%, G3X=–2.9%, CG=+1.0%), and trunk fat (G2X=–2.5%, G3X=–3.0%, CG=+2.9%), with no significant differences between training groups. Conclusion These results demonstrate that a low-volume 12-week RT program performed two or three times per week causes decreases in total and regional fat deposition with the greatest reductions occurring in the android region.

Altogether twenty-six elderly subjects (aged 65–74 years) with persistent impaired glucose tolerance (World Health Organization (1985) criteria) identified in a population-based study, were randomly treated either with chromium-rich yeast (160 μg Cr/d) or with placebo for 6 months. The 24 h urinary Cr increased from 0.13 (se 0.03) to 0.40 (se 0.06) μg/d in the Cr group (n13) but no change was found in the placebo group (n11) (0.13 (se 0.02)v.0.11 (se 0.02) μg/d). No significant change was observed in the oral glucose tolerance test (glucose dose 75 g; 0, 1 and 2 h blood glucose respectively): 5.3 (se 0.1), 9.3 (se 0.3), 8.2 (se 0.3) mmol/lv.5.0 (se 0.1), 8.5 (se 0.4), 7.3 (se 0.5) mmol/l in the Cr group; 4.9 (se 0.2), 9.2 (se 0.6), 8.1 (se 0.3) mmol/lv.4.8 (se 0.2), 8.5 (se 0.5), 7.0 (se 0.6) mmol/l in the placebo group (baselinev.6 months). The bias and precision of four different methods for determining O2 saturation (SO2) were evaluated during a study of hypobaric hypoxia conducted with seven male subjects exposed progressively over a 40-day period to simulated altitudes from sea level (760 Torr) to 8,840 m (240 Torr). SO2 of arterial and mixed venous blood samples were measured with the Instrumentation Laboratory 282 CO-oximeter (CO-OX), the Radiometer ABL-300 (ABL), and the Lex-O2-Con-K (LEX). Noninvasive measurements of arterial SO2 were made with a Hewlett-Packard 47201A ear oximeter (EAR-OX). The CO-OX method was used as a secondary standard for comparison with the other methods because it has been validated against the classical Van Slyke method over a wide physiological range (Maas et al., Clin. Chim. Acta 29: 303-309, 1970). The LEX results most closely approximated but consistently underestimated those of the CO-OX: LEX = 0.93 CO-OX -0.86, standard error of the estimate (SEE) = 5.17, r = 0.98, n = 670. The ABL method appeared to combine two linear trends: for SO2 greater than 75%, ABL = 0.84 CO-OX +14.4, SEE = 1.77, r = 0.97, n = 369; less than 75%, ABL = 0.98 CO-OX +5.9, SEE = 4.44, r = 0.97, n = 486. Background Pain and dyspnea frequently coexist in many clinical situations. However, whether the two different symptoms interact with each other has not been elucidated. To elucidate the interaction between pain and dyspneic sensations, the authors investigated separately the effects of pain on dyspnea and the effects of dyspnea on pain in 15 healthy subjects. Methods Subjects were asked to rate their sensation of pain or dyspnea using a visual analog scale (VAS) during pain stimulation produced by tourniquet inflation (inflation cuff pressure: 350 mmHg) around the calf, and/or the respiratory loading consisted of a combination of resistive load (77 cm H2O x l(-1) x s(-1)) and hypercapnia induced by extra mechanical dead space (255 ml). In addition to changes in VAS scores, changes in ventilatory airflow and airway pressure were continuously measured. Results Pain stimulation and loaded breathing increased VAS scores, ventilation, and occlusion pressure (P0.1). The addition of a pain stimulus during loaded breathing increased the dyspneic VAS score (median 56 [interquartile range 50-62] vs. 64 [55-77]: before vs. after addition of pain stimulus, P &lt; 0.05) with concomitant increases in minute ventilation (10.8 [10.1-13.3] vs. 12.4 [11.0-14.8] l/min, P &lt; 0.05) and P0.1 (5.5 [4.9-7.2] vs. 6.8 [5.8-9.0] cm H2O, P &lt; 0.05). The addition of respiratory loading during pain stimulation did not cause a significant change in pain VAS score (40 [33-55] vs. 31 [30-44]: before vs. after addition of respiratory loading), although both additional burdens increased further minute ventilation (10.0 [8.8-10.9] vs. 12.0 [10.6-13.2] l/min, P &lt; 0.05) and P0.1 (2.5 [2.0-3.0] vs. 6.2 [4.9-7.0] cm H2O, P &lt; 0.05). Conclusion The authors' findings suggest that pain intensifies the dyspneic sensation, presumably by increasing the respiratory drive, whereas dyspnea may not intensify the pain sensation.

The GG genotype of the Patatin-like phosphatase domain-containing 3 (PNPLA3), dietary fat, short-chain fatty acids (SCFA) and branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are linked with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. We studied the impact of the quality of dietary fat on plasma (p) and fecal (f) SCFA and p-BCAA in men homozygous for the PNPLA3 rs738409 variant (I148M). Eighty-eight randomly assigned men (age 67.8 ± 4.3 years, body mass index 27.1 ± 2.5 kg/m2) participated in a 12-week diet intervention. The recommended diet (RD) group followed the National and Nordic nutrition recommendations for fat intake. The average diet (AD) group followed the average fat intake in Finland. The intervention resulted in a decrease in total p-SCFAs and iso-butyric acid in the RD group (p = 0.041 and p = 0.002). Valeric acid (p-VA) increased in participants with the GG genotype regardless of the diet (RD, 3.6 ± 0.6 to 7.0 ± 0.6 µmol/g, p = 0.005 and AD, 3.8 ± 0.3 to 9.7 ± 8.5 µmol/g, p = 0.015). Also, genotype relation to p-VA was seen statistically significantly in the RD group (CC: 3.7 ± 0.4 to 4.2 ± 1.7 µmol/g and GG: 3.6 ± 0.6 to 7.0 ± 0.6 µmol/g, p = 0.0026 for time and p = 0.004 for time and genotype). P-VA, unlike any other SCFA, correlated positively with plasma gamma-glutamyl transferase (r = 0.240, p = 0.025). Total p-BCAAs concentration changed in the AD group comparing PNPLA3 CC and GG genotypes (CC: 612 ± 184 to 532 ± 149 µmol/g and GG: 587 ± 182 to 590 ± 130 µmol/g, p = 0.015 for time). Valine decreased in the RD group (p = 0.009), and leucine decreased in the AD group (p = 0.043). RD decreased total fecal SCFA, acetic acid (f-AA), and butyric acid (f-BA) in those with CC genotype (p = 0.006, 0.013 and 0.005, respectively). Our results suggest that the PNPLA3 genotype modifies the effect of dietary fat modification for p-VA, total f-SCFA, f-AA and f-BA, and total p-BCAA.

Abstract. A database containing 10 min means of solar irradiance measured on a horizontal plane in several ultraviolet and visible bands from July 2014 to December 2016 at three stations in the area of the city of Ostrava (Czech Republic) is presented. The database contains time series of 10 min average irradiances or photosynthetic photon flux densities measured in the following spectral bands: 280–315 nm (UVB); 315–380 nm (UVA); and 400–700 nm (photosynthetically active radiation, PAR); 510–700 nm; 600–700 nm; 610–680 nm; 690–780 nm; 400–1100 nm. A series of meteorological variables including relative air humidity and air temperature at surface is also provided at the same 10 min time step at all three stations, and precipitation is provided for two stations. Air pressure, wind speed, wind direction, and concentrations of air pollutants PM10, SO2, NOx, NO, NO2 were measured at the 1 h time step at the fourth station owned by the Public Health Institute of Ostrava. The details of the experimental sites and instruments used for the measurements are given. Special attention is given to the data quality, and the original approach to the data quality which was established is described in detail. About 130 000 records for each of the three stations are available in the database. This database offers a unique ensemble of variables having a high temporal resolution and it is a reliable source for radiation in relation to environment and vegetation in highly polluted areas of industrial cities in the of northern mid-latitudes. The database has been placed on the PANGAEA repository (https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.879722) and contains individual data files for each station.

740 Background: The International Duration Evaluation of Adjuvant (IDEA) collaboration was established to prospectively analyze data from six randomized trials to assess whether a 3-month course of oxaliplatin/fluoropyrimidines (FU)-based adjuvant chemotherapy (CT) is non-inferior to the 6-month current standard treatment in stage III colon cancer (CC). The primary endpoint of IDEA was 3-year disease-free survival. The accrual goal for the Greek IDEA study was 1.000 patients. Methods: Greek IDEA randomized patients with stage III colon cancer between 3 months (arm A) and 6 months (arm B) of adjuvant CT with modified (m) FOLFOX6 or XELOX (depending on physician/patient choice). Toxicity was graded during treatment and follow-up using NCI-CTCAE v3.0. Results: From May 2009 to October 2015, 708 patients were randomized in Greek centers either to arm A (n = 354, 50%) or to arm B (n = 354, 50.%). 297 (41.9%) patients received mFOLFOX6 and 411 (58.%) XELOX. The median age was 67 years (20-75) and 579 (81.8%) of them had PS 0. The patients’ population was balanced for the major risk factor between the two arms: N1/N2 disease (68.1/31.9% vs. 68.9/31.1 for ARM A and B, respectively), obstruction (4.5% vs. 2.5 for ARM A and B, respectively) and perforation (5.1% vs. 6.2 for ARM A and B, respectively). Overall, 96.9% and 89.5% of patients completed 3 months (arm A) and 6 months (arm B) of CT, respectively. Median oxaliplatin dose was 505 mg/m2 in arm A and 738 mg/m2 in arm B. Toxicity profiles were comparable between the two arm and the two fluoropyrimidines backbones with a total incidence of Grade 3/4 adverse events 18.9/4.4% and 19.7/5.1% for mFOLFOX6 and XELOX, respectively. Grade 2/3-4 peripheral neuropathy during the study was similar between arm A (33.9/4%) and B (38.7/3.7%). Conclusions: Both mFOLFOX6 and XELOX were safe. More patients completed the scheduled treatment in the 3-arm schedule.

Preclinical investigation of the biomechanical properties of tissues and their treatment-induced changes are essential to support drug-discovery, clinical translation of biomarkers of treatment response, and studies of mechanobiology. Here we describe the first use of preclinical 3D elastography to map the shear wave speed (cs), which is related to tissue stiffness, in vivo and demonstrate the ability of our novel 3D vibrational shear wave elastography (3D-VSWE) system to detect tumour response to a therapeutic challenge. We investigate the use of one or two vibrational sources at vibrational frequencies of 700, 1000 and 1200 Hz. The within-subject coefficients of variation of our system were found to be excellent for 700 and 1000 Hz and 5.4 and 6.2%, respectively. The relative change in cs measured with our 3D-VSWE upon treatment with an anti-vascular therapy ZD6126 in two tumour xenografts reflected changes in tumour necrosis. U-87 MG drug vs vehicle: Δcs = −24.7 ± 2.5 % vs 7.5 ± 7.1%, (p = 0.002) and MDA-MB-231 drug vs vehicle: Δcs = −12.3 ± 2.7 % vs 4.5 ± 4.7%, (p = 0.02). Our system enables rapid (<5 min were required for a scan length of 15 mm and three vibrational frequencies) 3D mapping of quantitative tumour viscoelastic properties in vivo, allowing exploration of regional heterogeneity within tumours and speedy recovery of animals from anaesthesia so that longitudinal studies (e.g., during tumour growth or following treatment) may be conducted frequently.

706 Background: Patients with T4 colon adenocarcinoma have an increased risk of peritoneal recurrence due to direct seeding malignant cells. It has been theorized that adjuvant chemotherapy may not sterilize the peritoneal surface due to inadequate intraperitoneal concentration. We seek to further define the metastatic pattern, predictors of recurrence, and efficacy of adjuvant treatment in T4 colon cancer. Methods: We reviewed records of 181 adults [median age 71 (22-97)] with T4 N0-3 colon adenocarcinoma at Beaumont Hospital, Michigan from May 2005 –Nov 2015. Baseline factors and data on follow up, metastasis, and survival were collected and analyzed. Results: Overall recurrence rates for N0, N1, and N2 were 27/85 (32%), 17/50 (34%), and 29/46 (63%) (p = 0.001). Locoregional recurrence (LR) rates for N0, N1, and N2 were 21/85 (24.7%), 14/50 (28%), and 21/46 (45.7%) (p = 0.014). Multivariate analysis for distant recurrence was significant only for positive nodes with hazard ratio (HR) 3.3, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.1-9.9. Multivariate analysis for increased risk of LR was significant for the following variables: perforation (HR 2.7, 95% CI 1.2 – 6.2), lymphovascular invasion (HR 2.7, 95% CI 1.1 – 6.7), positive nodes (HR 2.8, 95% CI 1.2 – 6.9), and positive margins (HR 5.0, 95% CI 2.1 – 12.1). Adjuvant chemotherapy did not decrease risk of LR (HR 0.6, 95% CI 0.3-1.2) or distant recurrence (HR 0.9, 95% CI 0.3-2.8). Multivariate analysis for overall survival revealed the following to be associated with increased risk of mortality: signet ring (HR 2.5, 95% CI 1.2-5.8), positive nodes (HR 2.3, 95% CI 1.2-4.4), positive margin (HR 2.8, 95% CI 1.4-5.8). Adjuvant chemotherapy was not associated with improved survival (HR 0.8, 95% CI 0.4-1.7). Recurrence was strongly associated with colon cancer-specific death with a p < 0.001. Conclusions: Adjuvant chemotherapy is standard of care for most T4 colon cancer patients, however, this data suggests there is no improvement in survival or other significant outcomes. We have identified several risk factors which predict increased risk of LR. This data suggests LR is frequent and not affected by systemic chemotherapy. Prospective trials are needed to reduce the substantial risk of LR in T4 colon cancer.

It is known that in Kazakhstan, 70 ... 80 percent of peasant farms have no more than 100 head of cattle and 500 head of sheep. To fatten these farms and to prepare a complete ration with combined feed in dairy farms, a distributer-mixer with a box with a capacity of 3 ... 5 m3 is needed. Since the equipment of these distributer-mixer machines with stalk and grain crushers ensures that it chops fodder itself and loads them onto a hay rye and grain warehouse of a mobile fodder shop, in the process of preparing a full ration of a combined feed, the number of operations will be reduced by 1.67 times, and the operating costs of the unit will be reduced by 1.5 times. In addition, if the stalk fodder is crushed by zootechnical requirements, i.e. 30 to 50 mm, then the uniformity of the mixing process increases. Here you can mix with the addition of nutrient feed in the preparation of the combined feed, that is, the use of a mobile fodder shop in the household allows you to carry out the process of preparing a combined feed using new and inexpensive technologies, i.e. the use of a mobile fodder shop equipped with special crushers is a technological innovation. At present, the “Scientific Production Center of Agroengineering” on small farms is developing a mobile fodder shop for the preparation and distribution of compound feeds with a capacity of 5.0 m3, equipped with crushers for stalk and croup. In addition, in order to simplify the drive to the crusher and to make the design simple, the crusher of the stalk and grain are equipped with one bucket, that is, this is a technical novelty of the mobile fodder shop. Stalk and grain crushers of mobile fodder shops were made and tested. During the tests, the productivity of the stalk chopper is 2.5 ... 3.0 t/h, the power consumption is 6.2...7.0 kW, and the productivity of the grain crusher is 750 - 900 kg/h, and it was found that the power consumption in the performance range will be between 5.1 ... 7.2 kW. It was proved that the size of the crushed stalk and grain meets zootechnical requirements.

Abstract Background. OM is a common toxicity of conditioning regimens for HSCT that has been associated with adverse clinical and economic outcomes. Methods. A retrospective chart review study of ~400 consecutive HSCT recipients with hematologic malignancies was undertaken at a single academic center. OM severity was assessed across eight oropharyngeal sites using a validated scale which was scored as follows: no erythema/ulceration = 0; erythema only = I; ulceration one site = II; two sites = III; three sites= IV; and four or more sites = V. OM assessments began on the day of conditioning and continued bi-weekly until hospital discharge. Outcomes of interest included number of days of fever, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), and parenteral narcotic therapy, incidence of Grade III or IV (Common Toxicity Criteria) infection, and inpatient days and charges. We report data here for the 281 AL HSCT recipients in the study cohort. Results. Mean age was 41 yrs. Most common diagnoses were acute (33%) and chronic (19%) myeloid leukemia. Most patients (96%) received total body irradiation. Fifty-one percent of grafts were from unrelated donors. Seventy-six percent of patients experienced OM ≥ grade II. The relationship between worst recorded grade of OM and each of the outcomes of interest is reported below. Conclusions. OM is associated with worse clinical and economic outcomes in patients with hematologic malignancies undergoing AL HSCT. The influence of thermo-mechanical treatment consisting of cold rolling followed by recrystallization annealing on the grain size and mechanical properties of a high-Mn TWIP steel was studied. An Fe-23Mn-0.3C-1.5Al TWIP steel (wt. %) was subjected to extensive cold rolling with a reduction of 80% (true strain of ∼1.6) and then annealed in the temperature interval ranging from 400 to 900 °C during 20 minutes. Recovery processes took place below 500 °C, partial recrystallization was evident at ~550°C and fully recrystallized structure evolved after annealing at 600 °C and higher. The static recovery resulted in a slight decrease in the yield strength from 1400 MPa to 1250 MPa and the ultimate tensile strength from 1540 MPa to 1400 MPa whereas the total elongation of 4% did not changed. The recrystallization development led to a drastic drop of strength and an increase in ductility. The yield strength of 225 MPa, the ultimate tensile strength of 700 MPa and the total elongation of 79% was obtained after annealing at 900 °C. Correspondingly, the grain size increased from 0.2 μm to 6.2 μm with increase in anneal temperature from 550 to 900°C.

Abstract The field plot consisted primarily of Kentucky bluegrass. Treatment plots were 9 X 6 ft, arranged in a randomized complete block design, replicated 3 times. Liquid formulations were applied in 2.0 gal water with a hand-held 2.5 gal sprinkling can. Granular formulations (G) were applied with a hand-held shaker and mixed with a fine grade top-dressing sand to facilitate product distribution. At treatment time (26 Jun), the following soil and environmental conditions existed: air temperature, 78°F; soil temperature at 1 inch depth, 78°F; RH, 58%; amount of thatch, 0.25-0.75 inch; soil type, silt loam; soil particle size analysis: 23.3% sand, 58.1% silt, 18.6% clay; organic matter, 2.9%; soil moisture (oven baked), 8.1%; water pH, 7.0; and soil pH, 6.2. Immediately after treatment the experimental area was irrigated with 0.25 inch of water. Posttreatment counts were made 14 d later (10 Jul). Bluegrass billbug control was evaluated by removing four 0.087 ft2 sod samples from each replicate. The total number of bluegrass billbug life stages (larvae, pupae, adults) were recorded from each sample and converted to a ft2 count. Sod samples were removed with a 4-inch cup cutter.

Abstract Background We aimed to forecast the number of unidentified and newly acquired HIV-infected individuals each year and to estimate the effectiveness of government prevention and control programs in China. Methods Dynamic and stochastic models were established based on officially published data regarding the four main modes of transmission: male homosexual sexual behavior, heterosexual sexual behavior, injection drug use (IDU) and plasma donation. Finally, we performed sensitivity analyses on model parameters. Results Nationally, by December 2016, approximately 280 790 individuals were estimated to have an unidentified HIV infection, with transmission via male homosexual sexual behavior (n = 100 710), heterosexual sexual behavior (n = 174 310), IDU (n = 5 620) and plasma donation (n = 150). Moreover, 196 970 newly acquired HIV-infected individuals were expected in 2016, via male homosexual sexual behavior (n = 78 610), heterosexual sexual behavior (n = 116,540), IDU (n = 1820), and plasma donation (n &lt; 2). Conclusions Our results show that HIV transmission via IDU and plasma donation has been effectively controlled; transmission via heterosexual sexual contact is being somewhat controlled; however, transmission via male homosexual sexual contact is not controlled. Hence, China should strengthen efforts aimed at control of unsafe sexual behaviors.

Анотація:
The chemical compositions and antimicrobial activity of the fresh rhizome and flower oils of Hornstedtia havilandii were studied. The components present were analyzed using GC and GC-MS. A total of forty-eight constituents were successfully identified from the flower and rhizome oils, representing 93.4% and 89.6%, respectively. The most abundant components of the flower oil were β-pinene, (19.5%), β-elemene, (10.0%), β-cubebene, (6.2%), α-pinene, (5.6%), γ-cadinene, (4.3%) and germacrene D, (3.3%), while α-copaene, (10.2%), β-selinene, (8.4%), β-elemene, (7.0%), γ-cadinene, (6.9%), β-cubebene, (5.3%) and germacrene D, (5.3%) were found as the main components of the rhizome oil. The essential oils were tested for antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria and yeasts. Both oils showed activity against the Gram-positive bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus, with moderate MIC values of 112.5 μg/mL, however, for Gram-negative bacteria, the flower oil showed weak antimicrobial activity with a MIC value of 225 μg/mL. Only very weak activity was shown against the yeasts Candida albicans and C. glabrata, with MIC values of 900–1800 μg/mL.

The effect of a cholinergic agonist and antagonist on finger blood flow (FBF) was studied in 10 normal subjects. Total finger blood flow was measured by venous occlusion, air plethysmography, and capillary blood flow (FCF) by the disappearance rate of a radioisotope from a fingertip injection. Methacholine in doses of 10-80 micrograms/min was given by constant infusion via a brachial artery catheter. Average FBF (7.4 +/- 2.5 to 10.9 +/- 4.3 ml X min-1 X 100 ml tissue-1) and vascular resistance (22.4 +/- 4.7 to 21.3 +/- 7.0 mmHg X ml-1 X min X 100 ml tissue) were not significantly affected. However, the half time (t1/2) of the disappearance rate decreased from 50.8 +/- 13.4 to 11.1 +/- 1.5 min (P less than 0.01); a decrease occurred in all subjects. In seven subjects, atropine (0.2 mg) had no affect alone but inhibited the effect of methacholine on FCF (t1/2 47.6 +/- 6.2 to 50.2 +/- 6.7 min) and prevented the redness and sweating of the forearm and hand that occurs with this agent. This study demonstrates a muscarinic cholinergic vasodilator mechanism in the fingertip that uniquely increases capillary blood flow.

The experiment is carried out on 3 groups of cows (1 - with productivity up to 7500 kg, 2 – from 7500 to 9000 kg and the 3rd group-9000 and above kg of milk for the previous lactation). Milk yield for 305 days of lactation of cows of group 3 averaged 9068 kg (P≤ 0,01), group 2-8682 (P≤ 0,05) and group 1 – 7940 kg of milk. Milk fat production in cows of group 3 - 369 kg (P≤ 0,05), group 2-351 and group 1 – 326 kg. The yield of milk protein from cows of group 3 is 285 kg (P≤ 0,01), group 2-270 (P≤ 0,05) and group 1-248 kg. A comparative analysis of the growth and development of heifers with mothers with different levels of productivity was carried out. At the 2nd month of growing, the weight of heifers of the 3rd group is 76 kg (P≤0,10), the 2nd - 72 kg (P≤0,10). The average daily growth of group 3 heifers at 6 months was 1244 g (P≤0,10), group 2 - 1127 and group 1-617 g.Group 3 Heifers at 9 months weighed 301,2 kg (P≤0,05), group 2 – 299,3 kg (P≤0,05). Heifers of group 3 at 12 months reached 380,6 kg (P≤0,05), group 2–378,5 (P≤0,05) and group 1 – 353,7 kg. The growth of experimental heifers of group 2 was 887,6 g (P≤0,05), group 3–829,6 and group 1 – 710 g per day. Monitoring of growth and development of heifers continues.

The article studied yeast composition isolated from the separation of the mash, bran separated in the grinding step, as well as a protein supplement obtained by mixing these two products. Crude fat content ranges from 4,7 to 6,2%, crude protein content is 38%, which is 20% lower than in the fodder yeast, but 14% higher than that of the bran. It is also found that the resulting protein product enriched in micro- and macro-elements, as well as readily hydrolyzable and water soluble carbohydrates. crude fiber content is 5,5%, which is almost 2,5 times lower than in the bran. The composition of the feed protein supplement obtained with the introduction at the stage of aqueous suspension of wheat powdery cellulolytic enzyme preparation Viskolaza 150 L and without it. The enzyme preparation was added in the step of preparing aqueous suspensions and wheat powdery dosage of 0,01% by weight of the feedstock. protein feed additives obtained with and without addition of cellulolytic enzyme preparation of high quality crude protein content and protein. Thus, the content of crude protein in the protein with the introduction of an additive in an aqueous suspension of powdery Viskolazy 150 L was 37% whereas 34% without the enzyme preparation. The amount of soluble polysaccharides and the mass fraction of ash were practically at the same level of from 2,4 to 5% and from 5,5 to 7,0%, respectively. fiber content of the protein supplement using Viskolazy 150 L was 4,2-6,1%, which is 2,5 times lower than in the protein supplement obtained without enzyme preparation.
