AbstractTwo new minerals shchurovskyite, ideally K2CaCu6O2(AsO4)4, and dmisokolovite, ideally K3Cu5AlO2(AsO4)4, are found in sublimates of the Arsenatnaya fumarole at the Second scoriacone of the Northern Breakthrough of the Great Tolbachik Fissure Eruption, Tolbachik volcano, Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. They are associated with one another and with johillerite, bradaczekite, tilasite, melanarsite, tenorite, hematite, aphthitalite, langbeinite, orthoclase, etc. Shchurovskyiteoccurs as coarse tabular or prismatic crystals up to 0.15 mm in size or anhedral grains forming parallel aggregates and crusts up to 1.5 cm × 2 cm across. Dmisokolovite forms tabular, prismatic or dipyramidal crystals up to 0.2 mm in size, commonly combined in clusters or crusts up to0.7 cm × 1.5 cm across. Both minerals are transparent with a vitreous lustre. They are brittle, with Mohs' hardness ≈3. Shchurovskyite is olive-green or olive drab. Dmisokolovite is bright emerald-green to light green. Dcalc = 4.28 (shchurovskyite) and 4.26 (dmisokolovite)g cm–3. Both are optically biaxial; shchurovskyite: (+), α = 1.795(5), β = 1.800(5), γ = 1.810(6), 2Vmeas = 70(15)°; dmisokolovite: (–), α = 1.758(7), β = 1.782(7), γ = 1.805(8), 2Vmeas = 85(5)°. The Ramanspectra are given. Chemical data (wt.%, electron-microprobe; first value is for shchurovskyite, second for dmisokolovite): Na2O 0.00, 0.83; K2O 8.85, 10.71; Rb2O 0.11, 0.00; MgO 0.00, 0.35; CaO 4.94, 0.21; CuO 43.19, 38.67; ZnO 0.42, 0.20; Al2O30.04, 4.68; Fe2O3 0.00, 0.36; P2O5 0.59, 0.78; V2O5 0.01, 0.04; As2O5 40.72, 43.01; SO3 0.35, 0.00; total 99.22, 99.84. The empirical formulae, based on 18 O a.p.f.u., are shchurovskyite: K2.05Rb0.01Ca0.96Cu5.92Zn0.06Al0.01P0.09S0.05As3.86O18;dmisokolovite: Na0.28K2.36Mg0.09Ca0.04Cu5.04Zn0.04 Al0.95Fe0.053+P0.11As3.88O18. The strongest reflections of X-ray powder patterns [d,Å(I)(hkl)]are shchurovskyite: 8.61(100)(200, 001), 5.400(32)(110), 2.974(32)(312, 510), 2.842(47)(003, 020), 2.757(63) (601, 511), 2.373(36)(512, 420) and 2.297(31)(421, 222, 313); dmisokolovite: 8.34(95)(002), 5.433(84)(110), 2.921(66)(510, 314), 2.853(58)(511, 020) and 2.733(100)(006, 512, 602). Shchurovskyiteis monoclinic, C2, a = 17.2856(9), b = 5.6705(4), c = 8.5734(6) Å, β = 92.953(6)°, V = 839.24(9) Å3 and Z = 2. Dmisokolovite is monoclinic, C2/c, a = 17.0848(12), b = 5.7188(4), c =16.5332(12) Å, β = 91.716(6)°, V = 1614.7(2) Å3 and Z = 4. Their crystal structures [single-crystal X-ray diffraction data, R = 0.0746 (shchurovskyite) and 0.1345 (dmisokolovite: model)] are closely related in the topology of the main buildingunits. They are based on a quasi-framework consisting of AsO4 tetrahedra and polyhedra centred by Cu in shchurovskyite or by Cu and Al in dmisokolovite. K and Ca are located in channels of the quasi-framework. The minerals are named in honour of outstanding Russian geologists andmineralogists Grigory Efimovich Shchurovsky (1803–1884) and Dmitry Ivanovich Sokolov (1788–1852).

Abstract Background: In AL amyloidosis, circulating free light chains (FLC) are not only a clonal marker, but they are the causal agent of the disease. The recently validated criteria of hematologic response are based solely on the measurement of FLC. Patients with a difference between involved and uninvolved FLC (dFLC) <50 mg/L do not have measurable disease and cannot be assessed for response. Hence, they are commonly excluded from clinical trials. Nevertheless, these subjects represent a significant proportion of the patients suffering from AL amyloidosis, and given the lower burden of the toxic amyloidogenic precursor we hypothesize that they have distinctive clinical features. Patients and methods: The study population is composed of 984 consecutive, newly diagnosed patients with AL amyloidosis evaluated between 2004 and 2013 at the Pavia Amyloidosis Center and prospectively followed for response and survival. We compared the 187 subjects (19%) who had a baseline dFLC <50 mg/L (low-dFLC group) with the remaining 797 patients (evaluable-dFLC group). Results: Patients' characteristics are reported in the table. Heart involvement was less common in the low-dFLC group, and cardiac and renal dysfunction was more advanced in the evaluable-dFLC group, whereas renal involvement was more frequent and severe in the low-dFLC group. The Mayo clinic staging system based on NT-proBNP and cardiac troponin was able to discriminate three groups with significantly different outcomes in both groups (P<0.001). Overall survival was significantly better in the low-dFLC group (median 90 vs. 48 months, P<0.001). Within each Mayo stage patients with low-dFLC had a longer survival (at 3 years, 88% vs. 78%, P=0.03 in stage I, 69% vs. 45%, P=0.001 in stage II, 36% vs. 22%, P=0.02 in stage III). Complete response was associated with a significant survival advantage in the low-dFLC group (median 122 months vs. 92 months, P=0.02). Conclusions: Nineteen percent of newly diagnosed patients with AL amyloidosis have very low dFLC burden. They represent a subgroup with a distinct and better outcome compared to other patients. Nevertheless, complete response can still significantly improve survival. Patients with low baseline dFLC can be included in clinical trials with appropriate stratification and are evaluable for complete response. Table 1. Patients' characteristics. ABSTRACT Daily progesterone profiles obtained from saliva specimens from 101 peri- and postmenarcheal girls showed episodic 'spikes' which reached up to 600 pmol/l from baselines of approximately 40 pmol/l. The authenticity of progesterone in the 'spike' specimens was established using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. 'Spikes' of progesterone occurred in 5·3% of premenarcheal saliva specimens but in only 1–2% of specimens from girls who were 4–6 years postmenarche. Two-hourly specimens from 53 pre-and postmenarcheal girls had 'spike' frequencies similar to those measured in daily specimens. J. Endocr. (1986) 111, 513–518

Twenty-eight lamb ewes (44 + 0.45 kg live weight) were used to study the effect of type and level of supplementation on voluntary intake of barley straw, treated with 30 g/kg of anhydrous ammonia (TS) or untreated (US) but given with urea to ensure the same nitrogen content as TS (18 g/kg DM). Each type of straw was offered ad libitum, supplemented with grass hay, rolled barley and sugar beet pulp at rates of 150, 300, 4 50 and 600 g/d, in 6 Latin Squares (4 x 4). In addition, another 2 sheep received each straw alone during the same periods. Supplements were totally consumed, except hay, which was refused in 10 - 13 and 28 - 34 per cent for US and TS, respectively.Daily dry matter intake (DMI) of US (OMD = 0.423) and TS (OMD = 0.515) offer as sole feed were 511 ± 29.1 and 858 ± 45.2 g. As show TABLE 1, US was consumed at rates of 527, 576 and 568 g DM when supplemented with 150 g of hay, barley and sugar beet pulp, and no significant differences were found with further levels of supplementation. DMI of TS decreased linearly from 850 to 618 g/d (r = 0.75) and from 717 to 518 g/d (r = 0.63) when the level of barley and sugar beet pulp increased from 150 to 600 g/d. Substitution rates were estimated to be 0.31 and 0.27 for barley and sugar beet pulp, respectively. Decrease in TS intake when supplemented since 150 to 600 g/d of hay (720 to 605 g, respectively) were found not significative.

Differences in performance of grafting seedling were estimated from effect of using the root-stock and scion clones. This research aimed to study the differences of performance of some root-stock and scion clones on grafting seedling. The study used split plot design. First factor was root-stock consisted of ICS 60, Sca 6, Sca 12 and KW 165 and the second factor were 12 scions clones consisted of ICCRI 01, ICCRI 04, ICCRI 05, DR 2, Sulawesi 1, Sulawesi 2, KW 516, KW 514, KW 617, KW 570, KEE 2, and KW 604. There were three replication in each treatment and each replication consisted of 15 samples. Viability, lingkage diameter, ratio of root-stock and scion, hight of shoot, number of leaves and shoot were observed. The study showed that differences of root-stock just affected viability, lingkage diameter, and high of shoot. Scion clones factor affected to all of the characters. Their interaction caused the differences of all characters except of the number of shoot. Root-stock Sca 6 showed the lowest viability and number of the shoot, however root-stock KW 165 and ICS 60 showed the best performance to all parameters. The cluster analysis was done based on growth parameters and viability on lingkage distance of 15. There were three clusters; cluster 1 (KW 570), cluster 2 (ICCRI 04, ICCRI 05, Sulawesi 1, Sulawesi 2, KW 514, KW 165) and cluster 3 (ICCRI 01, DR 2, KW 516, KW 617, KW 604). Correlation analysis showed that main factor which affected the high viability root-stock diameter and diameter ratio of root-stock and scion were used.

The effects of biochar and biochar combined with N-fertilizer on the content of soil organic matter in water-stable aggregates were investigated. A field experiment was conducted with different biochar application rates: B0 control (0 t ha-1), B10 (10 t ha-1) and B20 (20 t ha-1) and 0 (no N), 1st and 2nd levels of nitrogen fertilization on silt loam Haplic Luvisol (Dolna Malanta, Slovakia), in 2014. The N doses of level 1 were calculated on required average crop production using balance method. Level 2 included additional 100% of N in year 2014 and additional 50% of N in year 2016. The effects were investigated during the growing seasons of spring barley and spring wheat in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Results indicate that the B20N2 treatment significantly increased the proportion of water-stable macro-aggregates (WSAma) and reduced water-stable micro-aggregates (WSAmi). Aggregate stability increased only in the B20N1 treatment. The B20N2 treatment showed a robust decrease by 27% in the WSAma of 0.5-0.25 mm. On the other hand, an increase by 56% was observed in the content of WSAma with fractions 3-2 mm compared to the B0N0 treatment. The effect of N fertilizer on WSAma was confirmed only in the case of the B10N2 treatment. The proportion of WSAma with fractions 3-2 mm decreased by 42%, while the size fraction of 0.5-0.25 mm increased by 30% compared to the B10N0 treatment. The content of WSAma with fractions 1-0.5 mm decreased with time. On the contrary, the content of WSAma with particle sizes above 5 mm increased with time in all treatments except the B10N2 and B20N2 treatments. A statistically significant trend was identified in the proportion of WSA in the B10N2 and B20N2 treatments, which indicates that biochar with higher application levels of N fertilizer stabilizes the proportion of water-stable aggregates. In all treatments, the content of soil organic carbon (SOC) and labile carbon (CL) in WSAmi was lower than those in WSAma. A considerable decrease of SOC in the WSAma >5 mm and an increase of SOC in WSAmi were observed when biochar was applied at the rate of 10 t ha-1. Contents of SOC in WSAmi increased as a result of adding biochar combined with N fertilizer at first level. Abstract. We use multifractal analysis to estimate the Rényi dimensions of river basins by two different partition methods. These methods differ in the way that the Euclidian plane support of the measure is covered, partitioning it by using mutually exclusive boxes or by gliding a box over the plane. Images of two different drainage basins, for the Ebro and Tajo rivers, located in Spain, were digitalized with a resolution of 0.5 km, giving image sizes of 617×1059 pixels and 515×1059, respectively. Box sizes were chosen as powers of 2, ranging from 2×4 pixels to 512×1024 pixels located within the image, with the purpose of covering the entire network. The resulting measures were plotted versus the logarithmic value of the box area instead of the box size length. Multifractal Analysis (MFA) using a box counting algorithm was carried out according to the method of moments ranging from −5<q<5, and the Rényi dimensions were calculated from the log/log slope of the probability distribution for the respective moments over the box area. An optimal interval of box sizes was determined by estimating the characteristic length of the river networks and by taking the next higher power of 2 as the smallest box size. The optimized box size for both river networks ranges from 64×128 to 512×1024 pixels and illustrates the multiscaling behaviour of the Ebro and Tajo. By restricting the multifractal analysis to the box size range, good generalized dimension (Dq) spectra were obtained but with very few points and with a low number of boxes for each size due to image size restrictions. The gliding box method was applied to the same box size range, providing more consistent and representative Dq values. The numerical differences between the results, as well as the standard error values, are discussed.

AbstractThe gamma-ray spectrometer on Yohkoh has detected the positron annihilation line at 511 keV produced during the 1991 November 15 flare (X1.0/3B). The 511 keV line fluence, integrated over the time interval of 22:37:50-22:38:14 UT, is (6.7 ± 2.2) photons cm−2 . The time profile of 511 keV line exhibited long decay time compared with the electron bremsstrahlung and prompt gamma-ray line components. From the analysis of time profile of the 511 keV line, we come to the following conclusions: (1) the main source of positrons is deexcitation of 16O *6.052 by e+ – e- pair emisson. (2) β+ −emitting nuclei of 31S, 29P, 27Si, 26mAl, 25Al,23Mg, 19Ne, and 21Na are also important sources of positrons in the decay phase. (3) The density of the positron annihilation region in the photosphere is 1016 cm−3 . Background: Motor phenotype (MP) can be associated with a different prognosis in Parkinson’s disease (PD), but it is not fixed and can change over time. Objective: Our aim was to analyze how the MP changed over time and to identify factors associated with the changes in PD patients from a multicenter Spanish PD cohort. Methods: PD patients who were recruited from January-2016 to November-2017 (baseline visit; V0) and evaluated again at a 2-year±30 days follow-up (V2) from 35 centers of Spain from the COPPADIS cohort, were included in this study.MP was calculated at both visits based on Jankovic classification in TD (tremor dominant), IND (indeterminate), or PIGD (postural instability and gait difficulty). Sociodemographic and clinical data were collected, including serum biomarkers. Results: Five hundred eleven patients (62.57±8.59 years old; 59.2%males) were included in the study. At V0, MP was: 47.4%(242/511) TD; 36.6%(187/511) PIGD; 16%(82/511) IND. Up to 38%(194/511) of the patients changed their phenotype from V0 to V2, being the most frequent from TD to IND (8.4%) and from TD to PIGD (6.7%). A worse cognitive status (OR = 0.966) and less autonomy for activities of daily living (OR = 0.937) at V0 and a greater increase in the globalNMS burden (OR = 1.011) from V0 to V2 were associated with changing from TD to another phenotype after 2-year follow-up. Conclusion: The MP in PD can change over time. With disease progression, the percentage of cases with non-tremoric MP increases. PD patients who changed from TD to postural instability and gait difficulty increased NMS burden significantly.

Conventional parallel detectors for Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) have been mainly based upon systems using linear photodiode arrays in a conjugate image plane of an electron spectrometer. We have developed a unique two dimensional charge coupled device (CCD) camera system which can be used as a detector for EEL spectroscopy and imaging, utilizing high sensitivity, high resolution CCD's, which are typically used in medial or astronomic imaging.The present detector system is based upon a Tektronics TK512M 512 x 512 pixel CCD array, (figure 1) which is optically coupled to a YAG:Ce single crystal scintillator. This CCD imaging system views an electron energy loss spectrum which is magnified by a quadrupole doublet lens attached to a Gatan 607 electron spectrometer on a Philips EM420 TEM as is illustrated in figure 2. The CCD controller, detector head electronics and electron optics were developed at Argonne specifically for high speed data acquisition and allow the recording of complete spectra in as short a time as 10 μsec or approximately 103 times faster than the typical 1024 pixel photodiode arrays’ thus allowing the potential for time resolved spectroscopy.

Adequate knowledge of the occurrence and seasonal variation in the distribution of parasitic and rickettsial diseases affecting dogs is required for formulation of effective disease control measures. Hence, this study assessed the prevalence of vector borne haemoparasites and rickettsial of dogs between 2009 and 2019. Clinical records of dogs presented for clinical examination and confirmed by microscopic screening of their blood were assessed and analysed statistically. Overall, 1483 dogs were presented to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). This included 641 (43.2%) male, 842 (56.8%) female, 967 (65.2%) young and 516 (34.8%) adult dogs. 33 (2.2%) and 1450 (97.8%) were mongrel and exotic breeds, respectively. 511 (34.5%) were infected with either haemoparasites or rickettsial. This comprised 34.0% (218/641) and 34.8% (293/842) male and female, 317 (32.8%) and 194 (37.6%) young and adult dogs, respectively. There was no significant (p =0.05) difference in the prevalence among sexes and age groups. Seasonal prevalence was 35.88% (315/878) and 32.40% (196/605) in wet and dry seasons, respectively. Six haemoparasites/rickettsials were reported from 511 dogs, these included single infections of Babesia species 477 (93.5%), Ehrlichia species 8 (1.6%), Hepatozoon canis 2(0.39%), Mycoplasma haemocanis 7 (1.4%), Trypanosoma species 16 (3.1%) and mixed infection of Babesia and Hepatozoon canis 1 (0.2%). The mean PCV values were significantly (t = 2.45; P = 0.014) different between infected and non-infected dogs. This study suggests that Babesia spp. isthe most prevalentin the dogs presented to the VTH in the study area and the detection of Trypanosoma spp. in some dogssuggeststhat dogs could be reservoir of trypanosomesfor both animals and human. This paper reports a newly achieved best result on the common emitter current gain of 4H-SiC high power bipolar junction transistors (BJTs). A fabricated 1600 V – 15 A 4H-SiC power BJT with an active area of 1.7 mm2 shows a high DC current gain (b) of 70, when it conducts 9.8 A collector current at a base current of only 140 mA. The maximum AC current gain (DIC/DIB) is up to 78. This high performance BJT has an open base collector-to-emitter blocking voltage (VCEO) of over 1674 V with a leakage current of 1.6 μA, and a specific on-resistance (RSP-ON) of 5.1 mW.cm2 when it conducts 7.0 A (412 A/cm2) at a forward voltage drop of VCE = 2.1 V. A large area 4H-SiC BJT with a footprint of 4.1 mm x 4.1 mm has also shown a DC current gain over 50. These high-gain, high-voltage and high-current 4H-SiC BJTs further support a promising future for 4H-SiC BJT applications.

Abstract. Ocean acidification is a predictable consequence of rising atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), and is highly likely to impact the entire marine ecosystem – from plankton at the base of the food chain to fish at the top. Factors which are expected to be impacted include reproductive health, organism growth and species composition and distribution. Predicting when critical threshold values will be reached is crucial for projecting the future health of marine ecosystems and for marine resources planning and management. The impacts of ocean acidification will be first felt at the seasonal scale, however our understanding how seasonal variability will influence rates of future ocean acidification remains poorly constrained due to current model and data limitations. To address this issue, we first quantified the seasonal cycle of aragonite saturation state utilizing new data-based estimates of global ocean-surface dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity. This seasonality was then combined with earth system model projections under different emissions scenarios (representative concentration pathways; RCPs 2.6, 4.5 and 8.5) to provide new insights into future aragonite undersaturation onset. Under a high emissions scenario (RCP 8.5), our results suggest accounting for seasonality will bring forward the initial onset of month-long undersaturation by 17 ± 10 years compared to annual-mean estimates, with differences extending up to 35 ± 16 years in the North Pacific due to strong regional seasonality. This earlier onset will result in large-scale undersaturation once atmospheric CO2 reaches 496 ppm in the North Pacific and 511 ppm in the Southern Ocean, independent of emission scenario. This work suggests accounting for seasonality is critical to projecting the future impacts of ocean acidification on the marine environment.

Tyrimo tikslas. Įvertinti pacientų, sergančių 2 tipo cukriniu diabetu, patiriamų išlaidų poveikį suvokiamoms vertėms, pasitenkinimui ir elgsenos ketinimams. Tyrimo metodai. Anoniminė pacientų, sergančių 2 tipo cukriniu diabetu ir besilankančių pas šeimos gydytoją, apklausa (n = 510) atlikta nuo 2017 m. spalio iki 2018 m. sausio mėn. Respondentai, prieš atsakydami į klausimyno klausimus, užpildė Asmens informavimo ir informuoto asmens sutikimo formą. Apklausa vykdyta po suteiktos šeimos gydytojo sveikatos paslaugos. Duomenų statistinė analizė atlikta naudojant „IBM SPSS 25“ statistinį paketą. Tiriamoji faktorinė analizė buvo taikyta norint išskirti analizuojamus požymius apibendrinančius faktorius. Norint nustatyti, ar yra ryšys tarp išskirtų faktorių ir kokybinių požymių, kiekybiniai faktorių įverčiai buvo sugrupuoti į dvi grupes: silpna išraiška (faktoriaus reikšmė žemiau arba lygi 0) ir stipri išraiška (faktoriaus reikšmė didesnė už 0). Duomenų analizės metu iškelta tyrimo hipotezė tikrinta naudojant tiesinės regresijos modelį, kuris leidžia vieno požymio reikšmes prognozuoti pagal kito požymio reikšmes. Modelio tinkamumas duomenims tikrintas taikant determinacijos koeficientą (R²). Rezultatai. Patiriamos išlaidos teigiamai ir statistiškai patikimai lemia pacientų, sergančių 2 tipo cukriniu diabetu, suvokiamas emocinę (regresijos modelio koeficientas b = 0,325, p = 0,001), socialinę (b = 0,665, p = 0,001), funkcinę (b = 0,493, p = 0,001) vertes, pacientų pasitenkinimą (b = 0,620, p = 0,001) ir jų elgsenos ketinimus (b = 0,590, p = 0,001). Regresijos koeficientai rodo, kad respondentų patiriamos išlaidos suvokiamoms vertėms daro gana didelį teigiamą poveikį, mažiausias poveikis – suvokiamoms emocinei ir funkcinei vertėms. Išvados. Sergančiųjų 2 tipo cukriniu diabetu patiriamos išlaidos teigiamai veikia pacientų pasitenkinimą, elgsenos ketinimus, suvokiamas vertes (emocinę, socialinę, funkcinę). Mažiausią poveikį patiriamos išlaidos turi emocinei ir funkcinei vertėms, o didžiausią – socialinei vertei.

512 Background: Pazopanib is a standard treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) and 800 mg/day is considered the optimal dose for mRCC patients (pts). However, some pts require a dose reduction due to toxicity. It remains unclear whether reduced-dose pazopanib is as effective as the standard dose in achieving a response. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated treatment duration, objective response rate (ORR), progression-free survival (PFS), and discontinuation rate in consecutive pts with mRCC treated with first-line pazopanib between 2011 and 2016 at the Istituto Nazionale Tumori of Milano, Italy. Three patient groups were compared: group 1 received the standard starting dose of 800 mg/day continously, group 2 received a dose reduced to 400 or 600 mg/day after starting with 800 mg/day, and group 3 received a reduced starting dose of 400 or 600 mg/day because of ECOG performance status = 2-3 and/or comorbidities. Results: We included 69 pts, with 34 in group 1, 19 in group 2, and 16 in group 3. Median age at diagnosis was 62 years, and 64% were male. Overall 13% and 87% of pts were classified as Heng good and intermediate-risk respectively. In 10 and 9 pts of the group 2, the dose was reduced to 600 and 400 mg/day respectively while 12 and 4 pts in the group 3 received a reduced initial dose of 400 and 600 mg/day respectively. After a median follow-up of 13.9 months (range 0.3-43.8), 27 (39.1%) pts showed progressive disease (PD) and 3 (4.3%) pts were dead. Incidence rate of PD or death was 2.5 (95% CI: 0.6-4.4; Hazard ratio [HR]:1) per 100 person-months in group 1; 4.0 (95% CI: 0-11.4; HR: 1.45) per 100 person-months in group 2 and 3.3 (95% CI: 0-6.8; HR: 1.19) per 100 person-months in group 3. Rates of discontinuation due to PD were 28% in group 1, 42% in group 2, and 44% in group 3. ORR was 44%, 11% and 19% in group 1, group 2, and group 3 respectively. Conclusions: Our results suggest that mRCC pts receiving a lower dose of first-line pazopanib might not have a meaningful PFS advantage compared with those receiving standard dose. These data highlight the importance of management of the treatment-related side effects that may eventually lead to optimal drug exposure.

A multiresidue method for the simultaneous determination of 22 organochlorine (OCs) and organophosphorus (Ops) pesticides (including isomers and metabolites), representing a wide range of physicochemical properties, was developed in fatty matrices extracted from meat. Pesticides were extracted from samples with acetonitrile/n-hexane (v :v, 1:1). The analytical screening was performed by gas chromatography coupled with electron-capture detection (ECD). The identification of compounds was based on their retention time and on comparison of the primary and secondary ions. The optimized method was validated by determining accuracy (recovery percentages), precision (repeatability and reproducibility), and sensitivity (detection and quantitation limits) from analyses of samples fortified at 38 to 300 ng/g levels. Correlation coefficients for the 22 extracted pesticide standard curves (linear regression analysis, n = 3) ranged from 0.998 to 1.000. Recovery studies from 2 g samples fortified at 3 levels demonstrated that the GC-ECD method provides 64.4-96.0% recovery for all pesticides except 2,4′-DDE (44.6-50.4%), 4,4′-DDE (51.1-57.5%) and 2,4′-DDT (50.0-51.2%). Both repeatability and reproducibility relative standard deviation values were < 20% for all residues. Detection limits ranged from 0.31 to 1.27 ng/g and quantification limits were between 1.04 and 4.25 ng/g. The proposed analytical method may be used as a simple procedure in routine determinations of OCs and Ops in meat. It can also be applied to the determination of pesticide multi-residues in other animal products such as butter and milk.

Preliminary results of the evaluation of the effectiveness of combined treatment of 116 patients with morphologically verified squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx II-IV (T2-4N0-2M0) stages of the tumor process for the period from 2006 to 2017 are presented in the article. Patients of the study group (n=20) underwent 2 courses neoadjuvant chemotherapy according to the scheme: docetaxel + cisplatin, followed by radiotherapy in the mode of multifraction of a dose of 1,3 Gy 2 times a day and surgical treatment (according to indications). Patients included in the comparison group (n=96) underwent 2 courses of neoadjuvant chemotherapy according to the scheme: paclitaxel + carboplatin, followed by radiotherapy in the mode of multifractionation of a dose of 1,3 Gy 2 times a day and surgical treatment (according to indications). The overall effectiveness of the treatment in the study group was 90,3 ± 3,1% (complete regression - 49,4 ± 4,0%, partial regression - 40,9 ± 5,2%), in the comparison group - 81,3 ± 4,0% (complete regression - 34,4 ± 4,8%, partial regression - 46,9 ± 5,1%). Differences between groups are statistically significant (p = 0,001).

Fused chromones are attracting increasing attention as novel therapeutic agents due to their wide distribution in nature, effective bioactivities and low toxicity. 6-Carbonyl-7-hydroxychromones proved to be versatile synthons for the synthesis of linear hetarenochromones by annulation of heterocycle to the chromone core. The present review is focused on the syntheses of furo[3,2-g]chromones, pyrano[3,2-g]chromones and some of their N-containing analogues, namely chromeno[6,7-d]isoxazoles, pyrano[3’,2’:6,7]chromeno[4,3-b]pyridine-5,11-diones and pyrano[3’,2’:6,7]chromeno[4,3-c]pyridine-5,11-diones based on the 7-hydroxy-6-formylchromones or 7-hydroxy-6-acetylchromones and shows the current state of research to date. This study suggests the use of standardized sewing terms for the construction of smart sewing systems. This study analyzed the use of stitches (ISO 4915) and seams (ISO 4916) for cut and sewn knit garment which are the basic elements of sewing on an ISO basis. The results of the analysis of sewing specifications of cut and sewn knit garments are as follows. First, the use of stitches and seams were analyzed. As a result, both stitches and seams were used as non-standard terms. Second, among 3,263 stitches, ISO 4915 No. 406 followed by 401, 504, 605 were the most frequently used; however, ISO 4915 No. 514 was anticipated the most because the ISO 4915 No. 514 used for joining was not recorded in the sewing specification. Finally, the use of stitch for each seam was analyzed. The most common stitch used for ISO 4916 No. 6.02.07 was ISO 4915 No. 406. In addition, when it was sewing ISO 4916 No. 4.04.01, ISO 4915 No. 504 was used in step 1, and ISO 4915 No. 406, 602, and 605 were used in step 2. It is important to use the international standard sewing terms for the production site based on the results. In addition, the construction of smart sewing systems and the work of international standardization through industryuniversity cooperation are important for securing global competitiveness. Therefore, the use of international standard terminology and practical training should be conducted with a focus on stitching and seams with high frequency of use.

Background:Limited data on early Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) are available1,2.Objectives:To describe baseline data of PsA patients naive to any DMARDs.Methods:SIRENA study is an Italian, prospective Registry of Spondyloarthritis patients diagnosed according to ASAS criteria and naïve to any DMARDs. Data on demographic and clinical characteristics of PsA cohort were collected and analysed, also by gender.Results:203/350 (58%) subjects included in SIRENA Registry had PsA (mean age 51.9 years) and in 190/203 (94%) CASPAR classification criteria were fulfilled. In 70% of patients the diagnosis was performed within 24 months from symptom onset. At baseline, 194/203 (95.6%) had mainly peripheral manifestations, 74.4% of patients had skin psoriasis, 40% nail psoriasis, 39.3% clinical enthesitis and 25.9% dactylitis. Mean SJC66 and TJC68 were, respectively, 3 and 7.2; mean PhGA was 46.3; 14.7% of patients were in MDA.The higher tender joint count in women (mean TJC68 9.3 in women vs 5.3 in men) resulted in a higher disease activity according to DAPSA (high disease activity: 11.5% women vs 4.1% men), a higher joint VAS score (mean score 47.1 women vs 39.8 men) and a lower prevalence of MDA (8.3% women vs 20% men). We observed a higher prevalence of moderate or severe psoriasis in men (BSA≥3%: 37% men vs 27.8% women) while all PROs collected (PtGA, pain VAS score, sleep VAS score, BASFI, BASDAI, HAQ-DI, WPAI) were worse in women.The most common comorbidities were cardiometabolic (35.5%), endocrine (9.4%), and gastrointestinal disorders (7.4%). Cardiometabolic disorders were more frequently reported by men, endocrine and gastrointestinal disorders by women; depression exclusively by women.Conclusion:This analysis provides real-life data in a cohort of early PsA subjects. Relevant gender differences were observed, with women showing a higher disease activity and more joint pain and men having more severe psoriasis. (E)-2-Chloro-3-(2-cyanovinyl)-9,10-dimethoxy-4-oxo-6,7-dihydro-4H-pyrido[2,1-a] isoquinoline- 1-carbonitrile (5) was obtained by treatment of the 2-chloro-3-formylpyrido[2,1-a]isoquinoline derivative 3 with 2-(triphenylphosphoranylidene)acetonitrile (4). Treatment of 5 with sodium azide afforded the corresponding azido compound 6 which could be reduced by sodium dithionite to compound 7. A novel isoquinolino[2,1-g][1,6]naphthyridine derivative 11 was obtained by the reaction of phenyl isothiocyanate with the phosphorane compound 8, which was prepared by the reaction of compound 6 with triphenylphosphine. Treatment of 5 with amines 12a-c and thiophenols 14a-c in refluxing ethanol afforded the corresponding substitution products 13a-c and 15a-c, respectively. Also, the reaction of 1 with a-oxo hydroxamoyl chlorides 16 was reinvestigated, and the synthesized pyrazoloisoquinolines 19a-f and pyridazinopyrazoloisoquinolines 20a, e were screened for their in vitro antitumor activities.

Microstructure and pore size of the composite papers with different density were investigated and thermal conductivities were measured by plane table thermo-conductivity meter at 600°C to 1200°C. Then the relationship between density ρ and thermal conductivity λ was studied, and the optimum density of Al2O3 fiber composite papers at different temperature was determined.

ZnO-TiO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by a reverse micelle and sol-gel process. The average particle size of the colloid was below 30 nm and well dispersed in the solution. ZnOTiO2 composite membranes were fabricated by using the dip-coating method on a porous alumina support. ZnO-TiO2 composite membranes showed a crack-free microstructure and narrow particle size distribution even after the heat treatment up to 600°C. The average particle size of the membrane was 30-40nm, and the pore size of ZnO-TiO2 composite membrane was below 10 nm.

Carbon coated N-doping of TiO2 nanotube films were successfully prepared by a two-step process of anodization and gas thermal penetration. The morphologies and structures of composites were characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS and Raman spectroscopy analyses, respectively. The results show that graphitized carbon deposited on the surface of TiO2NTs nanotubes under gas thermal penetration conditions, by which N atoms are incorporated into the lattice of TiO2NTs through substituting the site of oxygen atoms. Such Carbon coated N-doping of TiO2 nanotube films presents the enhance absorption in visible region. The photo catalytic tests show that the prepared films at 600°C reveal higher photocatalytic activity for splitting of water than other samples.

Nickel powders were prepared by the reduction of hydrazine of Ni(OH)2 reactant slurries from non-aqueous media. The morphological characteristics of nickel powders were investigated under various processing conditions. Nickel powders were characterized by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), thermal gravitational analysis (TGA) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The size of nickel powders was increased as the reaction temperature and time increased because of the thermal agglomeration of nuclei and/or increased growth rate. The surface of nickel powders composed of both Ni and Ni(OH)2 was oxidized in the temperature range of 400-600°C.

Hexagonal and cubic mesoporous TiO2 films were prepared by using triblock copolymer-templated sol-gel method via evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA) process. The mesophase of TiO2 film was controlled by spin-speed during the spin-coating process. The hexagonal mesoporous structure was formed at a high spin-speed around 2000 rpm, whereas the cubic mesostructure was formed at a low spin-speed around 600 rpm. XRD and TEM results indicate that those mesostructures are highly organized with a pore diameter of 7 nm. The prepared cubic and hexagonal mesoporous films were tested as photocatalysts for the decomposition of 2-propanol in gas phase. Both films presented considerably higher photocatalytic activity than a nonporous TiO2 films prepared by a typical sol-gel process without addition of triblock copolymer. Notably, we found that the cubic mesoporous films showed a relatively higher photocatalytic activity than the hexagonal mesostructured film. We believe this is due to the orientation of pore channels open on the surface of mesoporous films.

Ceramic compound with the formula BaLi2Ti6O14 was prepared by sol-gel method at basic conditions, using ammonium hydroxide as hydrolysis catalyst. Some portions of gel sample obtained were heat treated at 200, 400, 600, and 800°C. Samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal analysis (DTA-TGA), UV-Vis and FTIR. Crystalline phase was formed when a sample was treated at 800°C for 6h. This material has been previously synthesized by solid state reaction using temperatures as high as 900-1150°C for 2 to 10 days. The crystal structure of BaLi2Ti6O14 is similar to that corresponding strontium containing phase, SrLi2Ti6O14, which has been reported as catalyst for oxidative dehydrogenation of lower alkanes.

Congenital dermal melanocytosis (CDM) is a malformation of the dermis caused by antenatal impairment of melanogenesis. There are considered data on the epidemiology, history of the study, the characteristics of the pathogenesis and clinical picture of CDM. Data on the efficacy and side effects of treatment of CDM with ruby, alexandrite and neodymium laser in children and adults are compared. The effectiveness of laser treatment for CDM is closely related to the value of the integral absorption of radiation by targeted photothermophores of the epidermis and dermis: melanin, oxyhemoglobin and reduced hemoglobin. The safety of laser exposure is determined by its selectivity, which directly depends on the ratio between the absorption of radiation by the main target photothermophores and water. For the first time, integral indices of the absorption of laser radiation in the pathological focus area by the main photothermophores of the epidermis and dermis (oxyhemoglobin, reduced hemoglobin, as well as the melanin content and localization of ectopic melanocytes in the reticular layer of the dermis) and water are presented. In the CDM involved area, the integrated coefficients of absorption by the main target photothermophores of radiation with a wavelength of 511 nm and 578 nm were shown to be much higher, and the absorption by water is much lower than for radiation with a wavelength of more than 600 nm generated by a ruby, alexandrite or neodymium laser. The described pathogenetic features of laser skin biophotonics upon exposure of the CDM region to the radiation with a wavelength of more than 600 nm increases the risk of the development of such characteristic side effects as hyperpigmentation, deterioration of the collagen structure of the dermis with subsequent formation of scars in the postradiated area. To ensure the complete elimination of ectopic melanocytes and minimize the risk of side effects during laser surgical treatment of CMD area, it is advisable to use the two-wavelengths radiation generated by the copper vapor laser: with a wavelength that is maximally absorbed by melanin (511 nm) and with a wavelength with high absorption of both oxyhemoglobin and hemoglobin (578 nm), but with negligible absorption by water.

( The prognosis of aRCC which max SUVmax decreased more or 20% at 4W demonstrated good prognosis. BMC Cancer 2012) and progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) was exploratory evaluated. This study is multicenter-study using PET/CT systems which quality is ensured by previous phantom study. Results: Total 34 patients were enrolled. The median PFS were 9.7 months and mean OS were 35.8 months (survival curve did not reach 0.5). The median of max SUVmax (the highest standardized uptake value in each patients) at baseline was 5.1. The median PFS of patients with baseline max SUVmax ≤ 5.1 showed longer PFS and OS compared that with max SUVmax > 5.1 (median PFS 11.9months vs. 9.2 month P= 0.0354, median OS --- vs. 15.3 months P= 0.027 ). The median change ratio in max SUVmax at 4W was -9.5%. The change ratio did not affect the PFS and OS, analyzing the total patients. When the patients with max SUVmax > 4.0 at baseline were focused, the PFS of patients which max SUVmax decreased more or 20% at 4W demonstrated tendency to be longer than that of other patients (median PFS 15.6 months vs 9.2 months, P= 0.0727) Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated that the pretreatment max SUVmax predicted the PFS and OS of aRCC treated by sorafenib, but change of max SUV max at 4W did not. The change ratio could have potency as a predict marker for the PFS in the cases with high max SUVmax at baseline. It was speculated that the accurate assessment of change ratio in the cases with low max SUVmax at baseline was difficult. Clinical trial information: 000009812.

B2O3-doped ZnO-Pr6O11 based varistor ceramics were fabricated by sintering samples at 1350 °Cfor 2h with conventional ceramic processing method. The microstructure and electrical properties of the as-prepared samples were investigated. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that after the addition of B2O3 with the amount designed in this study, no new phase was examined in the detection limit. Through scanning electron microscopy it was found that the doping of B2O3 can promote the growth of ZnO grains, and the sintering of the samples. The result of electrical properties indicated that the nonlinear coefficient and varistor voltage of the samples could be improved to some extent with appropriate doping amount of B2O3, resulting in the highest nonlinear coefficient 6.7, lowest leakage current 329 μA/cm2, and highest varistor voltage 92.4 V/mm, respectively.

La2CuO4 crystallites were prepared via a sol-gel process using lanthanum nitrate and cupric nitrate as raw materials, distilled water as solvent, citric acid as complexing agent and ammonia to control the pH value. The as-prepared La2CuO4 crystallites were characterized by XRD, FESEM, TEM and UV-Vis spectra. Results show that the crystallization property of La2CuO4 crystallites increases firstly and then decreases with increasing of the solution pH value from 1.0 to 2.5, but all of the samples exhibit single sphere-like morphology. It is found that when the solution pH value is controlled at 2.0, the grains display uniform distribution and the size ranges from 100nm to120nm after sintering at 600°C for 2 hours. The optical band gap of the as-prepared La2CuO4 crystallites is calculated to be 1.38eV.

Sialon powder was synthesized using low grade bauxite as raw materials by carbothermal reduction-nitridation reaction. The influence of synthesizing temperatures (1300°C, 1350°C, 1400°C, 1450°C, 1500°C and 1550°C) on the phases of the final products was studied by XRD technique. β-Sialon (Z=3) formed at 1350°C and decreased when the temperature was higher than 1450°C. The optimizing reaction temperature for preparing Sialon was 1450°C. The Al2O3-SiC/Sialon composite refractories were prepared at 200°C, 400°C and 600°C for 24h with white corundum, brown corundum, SiC, Sialon powders prepared at 1450°C and calcium aluminate cement. The bulk density, apparent porosity, water absorption and bending strength of the Al2O3-SiC/Sialon composite refractories at room temperature were studied. The results show that the bulk density decreased and then increased with the enhancing of the temperature and reached the highest value of 2.43g/cm3 at 200°C. The apparent porosity and water absorption reached the lowest values of 26.68% and 10.99% at 200°C respectively. The bending strength decreased as the temperature increased, reached the highest value of 0.73MPa at 200°C.

The fretting wear behavior of Inconel 690 for steam generator tube in a nuclear power plant against Inconel 600 (Cr plating) for anti-vibration bar was investigated in a plain cylinder/plane contact configuration under ambient conditions. The fretting wear tests were conducted under various applied normal loads of 20-100 N, slip amplitudes of 20-100 μm and frequency of 2 Hz. Observation of worn surface and corresponding chemical composition analysis were performed to clarify the fretting wear mechanism. It is found that the friction coefficient value increases firstly and then tends to stabilize with decrease in normal loads and increase in slip amplitudes. In addition, the fretting regime is identified to be gross slip regime, indicating that the fretting damage mechanism of Inconel 690 tube against Inconel 600 (Cr plating) bar is wear. The corresponding fretting wear mechanisms are dominant by delamination wear, abrasive wear and friction oxidation.

Fully dense (ZrB2+ZrC)/Zr3[Al (Si)]4C6 composites with ZrB2 content varying from 0 to 15 vol.% and fixed ZrC content of 10 vol.% were successfully prepared by in situ hot-pressing in Ar atmosphere using ZrH2, Al, Si, C and B4C as raw materials. With the increase of ZrB2 content, both the bending strength and fracture toughness of the composites increase and then decrease. The synergistic action of ZrB2 and ZrC as reinforcements shows significant strengthening and toughing effect to the Zr3[Al (Si)]4C6 matrix. The composite with 10 vol.% ZrB2 shows the optimal mechanical properties: 516 MPa for bending strength and 6.52 MPa·m1/2 for fracture toughness. With the increase of ZrB2 content, the Vickers hardness of the composites shows a near-linear increase from 15.3 GPa to 16.7 GPa. The strengthening and toughening effect can be ascribed to the unique mechanical properties of ZrB2 and ZrC reinforcements, the differences in coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus between them and Zr3[Al (Si)]4C6 matrix, fine grain strengthening and uniform microstructure derived by the in situ synthesis reaction.

Enhanced bioactivity has been observed for amorphous CaO-SiO2 sol-gels with 30mol% CaO, and several structural techniques have recently been used to investigate the structural basis for this bioactivity. The current work presents the first detailed atomic model of (CaO)0.3(SiO2)0.7 solgel after heat treatment at 600°C, produced using molecular dynamics. The model contains 1056 atoms in cubic box with length 24.1Å, and specifically incorporates hydroxyl groups which are characteristic of the sol-gel. The model is in good agreement with experimental X-ray and neutron diffraction results. Inspection of the model shows a network of SiO4 tetrahedra with an average connectivity of approximately 3. Ca have coordination of NCaO=5.3, in agreement with experimental results. On average, each Ca is surrounded by 4 other Ca, and visual inspection shows several large clusters of Ca. These clusters should influence the dissolution of Ca, and hence the bioactivity of (CaO)0.3(SiO2)0.7 sol-gel.

Abstract Levels of human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) and of its free α and β subunits were measured using specific immunoradiometric assays in exocoelomic fluid (ECF) and maternal serum (MS) collected from five pregnant women at 6·6-8 weeks of gestation. Mean levels of hCG and its free subunits were significantly (P<0·001) higher in ECF than in MS: 3·5-fold for hCG, 600-fold for free αhCG and 38-fold for βhCG. There was no correlation between either hCG levels or levels of its free subunits in ECF and MS. On a molar basis, the quantity of free αhCG subunit expressed as a percentage of the total (free+combined) amount was 83% in ECF and 2·7% in MS (P<0·001). The amount of free βhCG subunit as a percentage of the total was 22% in ECF and 3·5% in MS (P<0·001). The ratio of the total amounts of α- and βhCG subunits amounted to 4·6 in ECF and 0·99 in MS (P<0·001). The heterogeneity of hCG was further investigated by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis followed by immunoblotting. Several bands with molecular mass ranging from 42 to 57 kDa, corresponding to hCG dimers, were immunodetected in ECF and MS with anti-αhCG and anti-βhCG monoclonal antibodies. A free 35 kDa βhCG immunoreactive band was found in ECF and MS. A free αhCG immunoreactive band was observed at 23 kDa in ECF and at 21 kDa in MS. These findings suggest that the exocoelomic cavity is a reservoir where hCG and its subunits produced by trophoblast accumulate directly. The excess of a free heavy αhCG subunit in ECF supports the hypothesis that, during early pregnancy, there is an excess of αhCG over βhCG subunit secretion by the trophoblast. Wind tunnel measurements of performance, loads, and vibration of a full-scale UH-60A Black Hawk main rotor with an individual blade control (IBC) system are compared with calculations obtained using the comprehensive helicopter analysis CAMRAD II and a coupled CAMRAD II/OVERFLOW 2 analysis. Measured data show a 5.1% rotor power reduction (8.6% rotor lift to effective-drag ratio increase) using 2/rev IBC actuation with 2.0° amplitude at μ = 0.4. At the optimum IBC phase for rotor performance, IBC actuator force (pitch link force) decreased, and neither flap nor chord bending moments changed significantly. CAMRAD II predicts the rotor power variations with the IBC phase reasonably well at μ = 0.35. However, the correlation degrades at μ = 0.4. Coupled CAMRAD II/OVERFLOW 2 shows excellent correlation with the measured rotor power variations with the IBC phase at both μ = 0.35 and μ = 0.4. Maximum reduction of IBC actuator force is better predicted with CAMRAD II, but general trends are better captured with the coupled analysis. The correlation of vibratory hub loads is generally poor by both methods, although the coupled analysis somewhat captures general trends.

Serrated flow behavior of an 11Cr ferritic/martensitic steel was investigated through tensile tests at initial strain rates of 2×10-510-3 s-1 at temperatures ranging from room temperature to 973 K. Serrated flow occurred at three temperature regions of room temperature, 573 K and 773973 K when tensile tests were conducted at a strain rate of 2×10-4 s-1. Serrations are also observed in the steel during tension at temperatures of 573 K and 773973 K at a strain rate of 2×10-5 s-1. With increasing tensile temperature, the yield stress and ultimate tensile stress of the steel were gradually decreased and quickly dropped at temperatures higher than 773 K, while the elongation of the steel was decreased to a minimum at 600 K, and then dramatically increased at temperatures higher than 600 K.

The impact of stitch density and seam class on the moisture management properties of seams was investigated in this study. A lapped seam (Class 2) using a Flat Lock Stitch class ASTM 607 and a super imposed seam (Class 1) using an Overlock Stitch Class ASTM 514 were constructed with four different stitch densities – SPI 10, SPI 14, SPI 18 and SPI 22, and the moisture management properties of seamed fabric in terms of the spreading speed, area of spreading, absorption time, wetting time, one-way transport index and overall moisture management capability (OMMC) on the seam line were investigated. It was observed from the results that the seams made with low stitch density show better moisture management capability, and the lapped seam exhibits better moisture management capability when compared to the superimposed seam.

5151 Background: Inecalcitol is a novel synthetic vitamin D3 analogue with potent antiproliferative effects in human cancer cell lines and a 100-fold lower hypercalcemic activity than calcitriol in animal models. Methods: Escalating dosages of inecalcitol were combined to chemotherapy in naive HRPC patients (pts). Safety and efficacy were evaluated in groups of 3–6 patients receiving oral inecalcitol daily or every other day on a 21-day cycle in combination with docetaxel (75mg/m2 q3w) and oral prednisone (5mg bid). Biphosphonates were prohibited during the first cycle. Patients received up to six cycles unless unacceptable toxicity or disease progression. Primary endpoint was dose limiting toxicity (DLT) defined as grade 3 hypercalcemia within the first cycle. Calcemia, creatininemia and CBC were assessed weekly; biochemistry, ECG and PSA every 3 weeks. Efficacy endpoint was PSA response defined as ≥30% decline within 3 months. Results: Five dose levels: 40, 80, 160, 300, 600 μg have been evaluated in 34 pts; 9 pts are still being treated at 600 μg; 25 pts have completed 6 cycles (13 bone metastases; 3 extrasqueletic metastasis, 8 bone and extrasqueletic metastases; 1 PSA-only disease). Median age was 72 years (range, 53–87), median Gleason score (Gs) 7 (36% Gs 10–8, 64% Gs 7–6) and median PSA 41.5 ng/mL (range, 0.9–962.4). No increased calcemia was reported. Most adverse events (AE) were G1–2, asthenia (19pts), constipation (14pts), diarrhea (13pts). G3–4 AEs were neutropenia (11pts) lymphopenia (9pts), asthenia (3pts), arrhythmia (2 pts), general health deterioration (2pts) and diarrhea (1pt). None of these AEs was considered related to inecalcitol. Of the 23 evaluable pts for PSA response, 20 (87%) had ≥30% PSA decline. Conclusions: Results from this ongoing study show the safe profile of inecalcitol when given daily in in HRPC pts. PSA responses with this combination are encouraging. As DLT was not reached, a higher dose of inecalcitol (1000 μg/day) will be further tested. [Table: see text]

One of the potential applications of TiO2 is its use in gas sensor technology. The aim of this work was to study the gas sensing properties of TiO2 thin films in combination with the effect of post-deposition annealing treatment. Titanium dioxide thin films with thickness 100 nm were prepared by the reactive dc magnetron sputtering. The thin films were deposited on sapphire substrate from a titanium target in an oxygen atmosphere. The samples were then post-annealed in air in the temperature range 600 °C 1000 °C. Crystal structure, surface topography and absorption edge of the thin films have been studied by X-ray Diffraction technique, Atomic Force Microscopy and UV-VIS Spectroscopy. It was found that the phase gradually changed from anatase to rutile, the grain size and roughness tended to increase with increasing post-annealing temperature. The effect of these factors on gas sensing properties was discussed. For electrical measurements comb-like Pt electrodes were prepared by standard photolithography and the films were exposed to different concentrations of H2 gas up to 10000 ppm in synthetic air at various operating temperatures from 200 °C to 350 °C.

Li1-xNi1+xO2 powder was prepared by using tartaric acid as a complexing agent. A 1 : 1 : 2 mole ratio of Li : Ni : tartaric acid was used to form carboxylate precursors which were calcined at 650–800 oC for 14–48 h. TGA of the precursors showed that formation of Li1-xNi1+xO2 initiates at 600 oC and above. By using XRD, Li1-xNi1+xO2 with 650–800 oC calcination was detected. Calculated intensity ratios of I(003)/I(104) and I(006+102)/I(101) showed that the best condition is at 750 oC for 34 h. The crystallite size was estimated using the Scherrer equation. AAS and titration techniques showed that Ni3+/(Ni3+ + Ni2+) and mean oxidation state of nickel are 66.50 wt% and 2.67 respectively. EDX showed that the powder was comprised by Ni and O. The faceted particles are shown by SEM. TEM and electron diffraction showed the results that are in accordance with the above.
