AbstractSurvival, size and development time were measured for larvae of Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann) reared in artificially induced strikes on sheep. Between 477 and 18 000 eggs or larvae were implanted in the fleece of 42 sheep. Survival was found not to depend significantly on implant numbers. Size and development time were significantly but only weakly dependent on implant numbers. These results contrast markedly with L. cuprina's performance on carrion.

Изученные (U-Pb-метод, SHRIMP II) цирконы из рутиловых эклогитов максютовского комп- лекса (д. Шубино) образуют три возрастных кластера. Цирконы неопротерозойские (561 ± 10 млн лет), фиксируют образование эклогитов, субстратом для них были диабазовые, габбро-диабазовые тела. Древние цирконы неоархейские (2884 ± 36 млн лет), отвечают мантийному субстрату, который был неоднократно (2303 ± 12; 2008 ±18; 1626 ± 59 млн лет) преобразован. Цирконы раннего ордовика-раннего карбона (433-477 ± 6; 340 ± 40 млн лет) отражают наложенные процессы, соответствующие высокобарическому метаморфизму.

Abstract. On 18 September 2004, an earthquake of magnitude mbLg = 4.6 was recorded near the Itoiz dam (Northern Spain). It occurred after the first impoundment of the reservoir and has been catalogued by some authors as induced seismicity. We analyzed the seismicity in the region as weighted complex networks and tried to differentiate this event from others that occurred nearby. We calculated the main topological features of the networks formed by the seismic clusters and compared them. We compared the results with a series of simulations, and showed that the clusters were better modelled with the Epidemic-Type Aftershock Sequence (ETAS) model than with random models. We found that the properties of the different clusters are grouped according to the magnitude of the main shocks and the number of events in each cluster, and that no distinct feature could be obtained for the 18 September 2004 series. We found that the nodes with the highest strength are the most important in the networks' traffic, and are associated with the events with the highest magnitude within the clusters.

Introduction. Many published studies have examined the effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), but none has evaluated its role in treating collegiate athletes. The authors examined collegiate athletes’ perception of OMT.
Methods. A cross-sectional survey of a convenience sample of 592 collegiate athletes was conducted from two universities in the midwestern United States during August-September 2019. The athletes completed a 12-item survey during pre-participation physical evaluations at their respective institutions. Main outcome measures included pain, need for pain medication, stress and anxiety associated with injuries, and overall satisfaction with the OMT in recovery and return to sports. Fisher’s exact test was used to evaluate association between the variables.
Results. The participation rate was 80.6% (477/592). Slightly fewer than 7% (31/477) of the athletes were familiar with OMT. Eighteen of the 31 athletes (58.1%) had received osteopathic manipulation as part of a treatment plan for injury. Of these athletes, 94.4% (17/18) reported a decreased need for pain medication and 83.3% (15/18) had reduced stress and anxiety related to their injury. One in three of them expressed interest in receiving osteopathic manipulation as a treatment option for an injury. The athletes reported general satisfaction with OMT in their recovery and return to sports.
Conclusion. The findings demonstrated the interest and benefits of OMT among collegiate athletes. This evidence supported previous findings about perceived efficacy of OMT in treating patients regardless of injury and diagnosis. Future studies need to establish causal relationship among OMT, stress and anxiety, pain, and use of pain medications.

ObjectivesCentral nervous system (CNS) anomalies are the second most frequent category of congenital anomalies after congenital heart defects (CHDs). In this study, the aim was to investigate the distribution of different CNS anomalies with associated anomalies and karyotype in a fetal autopsy population of terminated pregnancies over a 30-year period and to correlate the ultrasonographic diagnoses of CNS anomalies with autopsy findings.Materials and MethodsThis study includes 420 intact fetuses with CNS anomalies terminated at gestational ages 11+ 0to 33+ 6over a 30-year period from 1985 to 2014. An ultrasound (US) examination was performed at the National Centre for Fetal Medicine, St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim. The autopsies were performed at the Department of Pathology at the same hospital or a collaborating hospital. The anomalies were subcategorized according to the classification by the World Health Organization.ResultsNeural tube defects such as anencephaly (22.4%, 107/477) and spina bifida (22.2%, 106/477) constituted the most common CNS anomalies, followed by congenital hydrocephalus (17.8%, 85/477). In total, the karyotype was abnormal in 21.0% of all termination of pregnancies (TOPs), with trisomy 18 as the most frequent abnormal karyotype. CHDs, skeletal anomalies, and urinary anomalies were the most common associated organ anomalies. Throughout the study period, there was full agreement between US and postmortem findings of CNS anomalies in 96.9% (407/420) of TOPs.ConclusionIn this study of autopsy findings of CNS anomalies in intact fetuses terminated after prenatal US diagnosis, neural tube defects were most common. About half of the fetuses had isolated serious CNS anomalies, while the other half were CNS anomalies associated with structural and/or chromosomal anomalies. The prenatal US diagnoses were in good concordance with autopsy findings. In particular, due to challenges of diagnoses made early in pregnancy, it is necessary to continue the validation practice.

In the Guaymas Basin of the Gulf of California, changes in the mineral and chemical composition of sills of different thicknesses were studied in hydrothermal systems, which formed during the intrusion of hot sills into highly porous young (Pleistocene) cold sediments filled with seawater. Holes DSDP 477 and 477A were drilled in the high heat flow area and Holes 478 and 481/481A in the low heat flow area. Thick sills from Holes 477, 477A, and 478 (47 m, 30 m and 112 m, respectively) are fresh or very weakly altered mainly due to the fact that practically no water released from the host Pleistocene sediments during their heating penetrated into the sills. Olivine, whose content is small in these sills (a few percent) is unaltered. In mesostasis, the amount of which is also a few percent, there are clay minerals. The high heat flow in the area of Holes 477 and 477A (1250 mW/m2) did not change the unfavorable situation for changes in the mineral and chemical composition of the thick sills without water entering them. Thin sills with a thickness of 0.1 to 0.65 m and sills with a relatively small thickness of 1.2 to 4.5 m, which were intersected in Holes 478 and 481/481A are altered. They are fractured and therefore favorable for the penetration of water released from the heated sediments. In addition, in these sills a large volume is occupied by mesostasis (mainly from 18 to 45 %, in some samples from 53 to 70 %) replaced to varying degrees by clay minerals. Olivine is often completely replaced by clay minerals. In thin basalt sills, their alteration strongly decreases K contents. In some cases, the content of Mn, Mg, P, Na, and Ti decreases in them insignificantly. The low heat flow measured in the areas where Holes 478 and 481/481A (150 and 165 mW/m2) were drilled indicates that mineral and chemical changes in the thin sills occurred without heat and mass input from the convective long-lived hydrothermal systems.

The forkbeard Phycis phycis is one of the main target species of the demersal fishery in the Azores, north-eastern Atlantic. Age and growth of the forkbeard were studied using 477 otoliths from individuals caught between April 2000 and August 2004. Otoliths were burned and sectioned, a preparation method that improved the easiness of readings. Individuals ranged from 21 to 71 cm in total length, and their estimated ages between 2 and 18 years old. Forkbeard is a relatively slow growing, long lived species, that does not show sexual dimorphism in growth. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated for the Azorean forkbeard were L∞ = 79.64 cm, k = 0.09 yr−1 and t0 = −1.88 years.

Data on the scope of bacterial pathogens present and the frequency of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in New Zealand’s pigs are limited. This study describes bacterial isolates, antimicrobial susceptibility data, and multidrug resistance (MDR; resistance to ≥3 antimicrobial classes) from New Zealand pig submissions. Porcine test data from June 2003 to February 2016 were obtained from commercial veterinary pathology laboratory records. In total, 470/477 unique submissions resulted in bacterial growth, yielding 779 isolates. Sample type was recorded for 360/477 (75.5%); lung (79/360; 21.9%), faecal (61/360; 16.9%) and intestinal (45/360; 12.5%) were most common. The most common isolates were Escherichia coli (186/779, 23.9%), Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (43/779; 5.5%), Streptococcus suis (43/779; 5.5%), unidentified Campylobacter spp. (38/779; 4.9%), alpha haemolytic Streptococci (32/779; 4.1%), coagulase negative Staphylococcus spp. (26/779; 3.3%), and Pasteurella multocida (25/779; 3.2%). Susceptibility results were available for 141/779 (18.1%) isolates from 62/470 (13.2%) submissions. Most were susceptible to trimethoprim-sulphonamide (75/81; 92.6%), but fewer were susceptible to penicillin (37/77; 48.1%), tilmicosin (18/43; 41.9%), or tetracyclines (41/114; 36.0%). No susceptibility data were available for Salmonella spp., Campylobacter spp., or Yersinia spp. isolates. MDR was present in 60/141 (42.6%) isolates. More data on sample submission drivers, antimicrobial drug use, and susceptibilities of important porcine bacterial isolates are required to inform guidelines for prudent antimicrobial use, to reduce their prevalence, human transmission, and to minimise AMR and MDR.

Migrating adult Pacific salmon (Oncorhynchus spp.) are sensitive to warm water (>18 °C), with a range of consequences from decreased spawning success to early mortality. We examined the proportion of Yukon River Chinook salmon (O. tshawytscha) exhibiting evidence of heat stress to assess the potential that high temperatures contribute to freshwater adult mortality in a northern Pacific salmon population. Water temperatures greater than 18 °C have occurred almost annually in the Yukon River and correspond with low population abundance since the 1990s. Using gene transcription products and heat shock protein 70 biomarkers validated by field experiment, we identified heat stress in half of Chinook salmon examined (54%, n = 477) across three mainstem locations and three tributaries in 2016–2017. Biomarkers tracked wide variation in water temperature (14–23 °C) within a tributary. The proportion of salmon with heat stress differed between years at four of the six locations, with more prevalent heat stress in the warmer year. This work demonstrates that warming water temperatures are currently affecting northern populations of Pacific salmon.

477 Background: Pmab is a fully human monoclonal antibody against the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) approved as monotherapy in pts with chemorefractory mCRC. Many pts with mCRC who have progressed on a bev-containing regimen receive second-line bev + chemotherapy despite the lack of prospective, randomized data supporting this approach. A phase III study recently showed that pmab + second-line FOLFIRI improved progression-free survival (PFS) in pts with wild-type (WT) KRAS tumors vs chemotherapy alone. This study was amended after enrollment began to focus hypothesis testing on the WT KRAS population and is evaluating the safety and efficacy of pmab + FOLFIRI vs bev + FOLFIRI in pts who received first-line therapy with an oxaliplatin-based regimen + bev. Methods: This is a randomized, phase II, open-label study in pts with mCRC with disease progression or intolerability after ≥ 4 doses of first-line oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy + bev. Pts are randomized 1:1 to receive either 6 mg/kg pmab Q2W + FOLFIRI or bev (given at institutional standard dose Q2W) + FOLFIRI. Tx is administered until disease progression (PD), death, or withdrawal from study. The primary endpoint is PFS in patients with WT KRAS tumors. Other endpoints include objective response rate, overall survival, safety, and patient-reported outcomes. Results: At the time of data cutoff, 216 of 277 planned pts were enrolled. 175 (81%) pts discontinued study tx and 39 (18%) pts remain on tx. Any grade adverse events (AEs) were reported in 197 (92%) pts. 38 (18%) pts had AEs that led to withdrawal from tx or study. Serious AEs were reported in 66 (31%) pts and included gastrointestinal disorders (13%), infections and infestations (8%), respiratory disorders (7%), and metabolism and nutrition disorders (7%). Fatal AEs were reported in 18 (8%) pts of which 9 (4%) were related to disease progression. Conclusions: The aggregate safety profile is consistent with expected toxicities of FOLFIRI in combination with an anti-EGFR or an anti-VEGF targeted therapy in second-line mCRC. 477 Background: NSGCT, the most common solid malignancy in U.S. men ages 18-35, has a > 95% 5-year survival due to exquisite chemosensitivity; however, chemoresistant recurrences still contribute to 400 NSGCT deaths/year. We queried CGP results of the largest collection to date of recurrent NSGCT (n = 28) to identify targeted therapy options for this subset of high risk patients. Methods: DNA was extracted from 28 FFPE NSGCT clinical specimens. Hybridization captured libraries of 236 (FoundationOne, n = 20) or 305 (FoundationOne, n = 8) genes, plus select introns frequently rearranged in cancer were sequenced to high ( > 605x), uniform coverage. All classes of genomic alterations (GA; base subs, in/dels, rearrangements, and copy number alterations) were evaluated. CRGA were defined as GA associated with on-label targeted therapies and targeted therapies in mechanism-driven clinical trials. CGP coverage data was used to assess for chromosome 12p arm amplifications. Results: 28 samples (29% primary, 71% metastasis) from patients (avg 33.7 y) with recurrent NSGCT of predominant pattern of yolk sac tumor (43%), embryonal carcinoma (18%), choriocarcinoma (18%), or unspecified/mixed (21%) were profiled. 57% of NSGCT had chromosome 12p amplification ( > 6 copies). 89% had at least one GA not localized to chromosome 12p, including CRGA of CRKL (11%), MCL1 (11%), MDM2 (11%), GNAS (11%), KRAS (SV 7%), AURKA (7%), KIT (7%). CRGA in each of: AKT1, AKT2, BRAF, ERBB2, NF1, PIK3R2, PDGFRA, STK11 were identified in a single case. To date, we are aware of one patient in whom treatment with everolimus was initiated on the basis of the CGP results (inactivating point mutations in STK11 and PIK3R2) and who experienced marker stabilization lasting 5 months suggesting a biologic effect of this therapy. Conclusions: GA not accounted for by 12p amplification are present at a higher frequency than previously reported in recurrent or treatment-resistant NSGCT. The prevalence of CRGA and clinical response to targeted therapy in one such patient support the utility of CGP to identify additional therapeutic options for high risk NSGCT and warrants additional study.

Abstract Abstract 4862 BACKGROUND Jordan is a small country with an estimated mid year population in 2008 of 5 850 000, 3015000 of whom are males and 2 835 000 are females (male: female ratio 1.06: 1). (Department of Statistics Jordan, 2008). About 12.7 % of the population is under 5 years old, and 37.3 % under 15 years old. 11%if the population are 15–19 year old, with a M:F ratio 1.06:1 as well) Only 3.3 % of the total population is above the age of 65 years old (sex ratio of 1.01 male per 1 female in this age group). According to the Jordan Cancer Registry Report for 2008, Lymphoma is the fourth most common Cancer in the country. A total of (4606 ) new cases of cancer were recorded among Jordanians in the year 2008, 333 (7.2%) of whom had a diagnosis of lymphoma.111 (2.4%) were diagnosed as Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), and 222 (4.8%) as Non Hodgkin Lymphoma(NHL). OBJECTIVE In this study, we aim to characterize some of the clinico-pathological features of Hodgkin lymphoma in Jordan by analyzing the data available for patients referred to King Hussein Cancer Center over a seven year period. PATIENTS AND METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted of adults (>18 years) lymphoma patients referred to KHCC, between 1/1/2003 and 31/12/2010. Clinical features and histological subtypes were prospectively established for all patients registered in the Lymphoma Service Database. Pathology review and original paraffin block were mandated for all patients. RESULTS Over the 8 year period of 2003–2010,1329 lymphoma patients were referred to KHCC and registered in the Lymphoma Service Database, of whom 477 (35.9%) were diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Among this group all 477 patients were adults 18 years or older (100%), as children are treated in a different department. The median age was 35 years, (with an age range of 18–77), and 5% of patients were above the age of 60. 290 (61 %) of the patients were males, 187 (39%) were females, with a male to female (M:F) ratio of 1.55:1. 276 (57.8%) of the HL cases had a diagnosis of nodular sclerosis Hodgkin lymphoma (HDNS), making it the most common histological subtype. 120(25.2%) had mixed cellularity Hodgkin lymphoma (HDMC), 9 (1.9%) had lymphocyte-rich Hodgkin lymphoma (HDLR), and 6 (1.2%) had lymphocyte-depleted Hodgkin (HDLD). Nodular lymphocyte predominance Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHD) cases were 33, and constituted 6.9% of the HL cohort. CONCLUSION Hodgkin lymphoma appears to constitute a bigger share of the lymphoma burden in Jordan, as opposed to Europe and the US. Clinico-pathological features, however, appear to be closer to those described in Western countries, with similar incidence of HDNS, and HDMC subtypes, but possibly with less incidence of HDLR and HDLD subtypes. Water stress is one of the main limiting factors for common bean crops, negatively affecting grain yield and seed quality. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the inheritance of agromorphological and physiological traits related to drought tolerance in order to identify promising combinations. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with a partial diallel scheme between three drought-tolerant genotypes (IAPAR 81, BAT 477. and SEA 5), and nine cultivars widely grown in Brazil (BRS Estilo, IAC Alvorada, IPR Campos Gerais, IPR Uirapuru, IPR Nhambu, BRS Esteio, IPR Garça, BRS Radiante, and DRK 18), in a randomized block design with four replicates. The plants were grown in pots with substrate under 80% of pot capacity until they reached the stage R5, when water supply was restricted to 30% for 20 days in the pots under stress treatment. A wide variability for the agromorphological and physiological traits was observed. Water deficit reduced plant performance for most agromorphological traits and altered their physiological metabolism. Additive and non-additive effects are involved in the genetic control of the majority of agromorphological and physiological traits both under water stress and control (well-watered) conditions. The parental genotypes BAT 477 (group I) and IAC Alvorada, IPR Uirapuru, and BRS Esteio (group II) may be included in breeding programs aiming at improving drought tolerance in common bean since they present high positive general combining abilities for agromorphological traits. The crosses IAPAR 81 × IPR Campos Gerais, and SEA 5 × BRS Radiante resulted in the best combinations considering grain yield per plant and total dry biomass, when cultivated under water deficit.

Docynia delavayi (Franch.) Schneid is a plant used both as food and traditional folk medicine. The leaves of D. delavayi are rich in polyphenols, plants with phenolic content are known to be extremely beneficial in terms of human nutrition. In the present study, we used metabolome technology (UPLC-ESI-MS/MS) to examine the young and mature D. delavayi leaves on metabolites changes, which were then analyzed and compared. As a result, 477 metabolites (including 111 flavonoids, 47 others (consisted of nine vitamin, 18 saccharides and alcohols, and 20 unassigned metabolites), 71 phenolic acids, 52 amino acids and derivatives, 18 alkaloids, 61 lipids, 24 terpenoids, 33 nucleotides and derivatives, 18 lignans and coumarins, 12 tannins, 30 organic acids) were identified, of which 281 differentially accumulated metabolites, including 146 up-regulated metabolites and 135 down-regulated metabolites. The result of clustering and PCA analyses showed that young and mature leaves were separated, which indicated that there was a great difference in metabolites between young and mature leaves. Meanwhile, we also found that both young and mature leaves displayed unique metabolites with important biological functions. KEGG enrichment analysis showed that 90 of the differential metabolites were mainly concentrated in 68 KEGG pathways. The result will greatly complement the existing knowledge on the D. delavayi leaves for lays a foundation for subsequent development and utilization.

The upconversion of infrared radiation into visible light has been studied in heavy metal oxyfluoride glass-ceramics co-doped with Yb3+ and Tm3+ ions at 300 K. The general composition of the compounds is 69.9PbF2 + 7.5WO3 + 7.5MO2 + 15YbF3 + 0.1TmF3 (M = Si, Ge, Zr, Te, and Th). Two main upconversion emissions were observed. They are centered at 477 and 775 nm, corresponding to the 1G4 → 3H6 and 3F4 → 3H6 transitions, respectively. Slopes of the emission intensity versus excitation power measurements indicate that the blue emission is due to three-photon absorption, while two-photon absorption processes are responsible for the red emission. A comparative method was used to measure the upconversion efficiencies under 16.5 mW/cm2 excitation power. Measurements were made after the compounds were annealed at 450 °C for 4 h. The best conversion efficiencies were obtained for the compound having silicon (Si). They are 28 × 10−6 for the blue and 18 × 10−2 for the red emission.

O presente estudo teve como objetivos (1) comprovar a existência dos dez tipos motivacionais de valores e (2) avaliar em que medida estes mantém relações de compatibilidades e conflitos entre si, segundo a teoria de Schwartz (1992). Participaram 477 estudantes universitários, a maioria mulher (77%) e não-religiosa (78%), com uma média de idade de 21 anos (amplitude de 18 a 49 anos). Estes responderam ao Questionário de Valores de Schwartz e a um conjunto de perguntas demográficas. Uma análise fatorial confirmatória (LISREL) indicou a adequação da tipologia dos dez tipos de valores (GFI = 0,87, razão chi²/gl = 3,81). Em relação a estrutura de compatibilidades e conflitos entre os valores, esta foi plenamente confirmada no primeiro caso e parcialmente no segundo. Concluiu-se que a teoria em questão é adequada; a não comprovação de alguns conflitos entre os tipos motivacionais pode se dever à complexidade da dinâmica dos valores, não apreendida através dos modelos de equações estruturais.

ObjetivoAvaliar a correlação entre estado nutricional e pressão arterial em adolescentes.MétodosEstudo descritivo, em corte transversal retrospectivo. Foram analisados prontuários de adolescentes de 10 a 18 anos incompletos que deram entrada em um Centro Especializado entre 1997 a 2006. Foi calculado o índice de massa corporal, os valores iniciais da pressão arterial sistólica e diastólica, convertidos em percentis. Para análise estatística foi utilizada correlação de Spearman, com nível de significância p<0,05.ResultadosForam selecionados 983 adolescentes, entre 10 e 18 anos incompletos, 506 do sexo feminino e 477 do sexo masculino. Entre as 46,44% de meninas e os 37,53% de meninos, todos apresentavam excesso de peso. Em relação aos níveis pressóricos ficou evidente que os adolescentes com excesso de peso apresentaram maiores percentis de pressão arterial, tanto sistólica quanto diastólica. Todas as correlações de pressão arterial, sistólica e diastólica, em valores absolutos e em percentis, com índice de massa corporal foram significativas (p<0,001). Porém, os adoles-centes eutróficos também apresentaram alterações importantes das cifras pres-sóricas.ConclusãoApesar do excesso de peso apresentar forte associação com a elevação da pressão arterial, verificou-se também esta alteração em adolescentes eutróficos. Este artigo demonstra a importância de se avaliar periodicamente a pressão arterial de adolescentes como forma de prevenir alterações na mesma, promovendo um estilo de vida mais adequado.Termos de indexação: Adolescente. BackgroundRecent surveys suggest that psychiatric patients are at increased risk of being infected with HIV, although very little information is available concerning the seroprevalence of HIV infection among this population outside the US. The aim of this study is to determine the seroprevalence of HIV-I among patients admitted to a psychiatric in-patient unit and to gather linked anonymous risk-factor information.MethodAn unlinked serosurvey was made, using HIV-1 antibody testing of remnant blood specimens collected for routine medical purposes, of patients consecutively admitted to an acute psychiatric unit in Madrid.ResultsBlood was obtained from 390 of the 477 eligible patients (81.8%). The prevalence of HIV was 5.1% (20/390). Patients aged between 18 and 39 accounted for 63.4% of the admissions and 75% of the positive results. Of the 29 patients who presented with injecting drug use, 14 were HIV-infected (48.3%; 95% CI 29.4 67.5). Of the 51 patients for whom any risk behaviour was noted on the admission chart, 18 were HIV-infected (35.3%; 95% CI 22.4 49.9).ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that there is a substantial prevalence of HIV infection in psychiatric patients admitted to an acute in-patient unit. History of injecting drug use was strongly associated with seropositivity. Clinicians recognised risk factors for HIV infection in the majority of the HIV-infected cases.

Because major cardiovascular disease states are characterized by defects in adenylyl cyclase regulation, it becomes important to understand the mechanisms by which adenylyl cyclase activators affect inotropy and chronotropy in intact conscious animals. Accordingly, we examined the inotropic and chronotropic responses to forskolin in 11 normal conscious, chronically instrumented dogs and 3 dogs with ventricular denervation (VD). Left ventricular first derivative of pressure (LV dP/dt) increased by 96 +/- 7%, P < 0.05, in response to forskolin (50 nmol.kg-1.min-1) in normal dogs and by significantly less, 52 +/- 14%, in VD dogs. Circulating norepinephrine (NE) levels increased similarly in both groups (from 226 +/- 18 to 389 +/- 33 pg/ml in normal dogs, from 177 +/- 23 to 329 +/- 71 pg/ml in VD dogs). In the presence of ganglionic blockade, the increase in LV dP/dt in response to forskolin was reduced (+62 +/- 4%) in normal dogs but was unchanged in VD dogs (+52 +/- 12%). Ganglionic blockade abolished the increase in circulating NE levels in both groups. Increases in heart rate in the presence of ganglionic blockade (+54 +/- 6 beats/min) were less than in the presence of atropine alone (+92 +/- 10 beats/min). Notably, the LV dP/dt and heart rate responses to forskolin were further attenuated by beta-adrenergic receptor blockade in the presence and absence of ganglionic blockade. Morphine also attenuated the increases in both LV dP/dt and plasma NE in response to forskolin. Increases in LV dP/dt in response to NKH-477 (30 micrograms/kg), a water-soluble forskolin derivative, were similar before and after ganglionic blockade (+63 +/- 8 and +51 +/- 10%, respectively). However, in vitro experiments in LV sarcolemmal membrane preparations demonstrated that stimulation of adenylyl cyclase by forskolin and NKH-477 was not affected by beta-adrenergic receptor blockade. These results indicate that in conscious dogs, inotropic and chronotropic effects of forskolin are not only due to direct activation of adenylyl cyclase, but the effects also are mediated by neural mechanisms and potentiated by the prevailing level of sympathetic tone.

Objective: To investigate the characteristics and trends of injury among hospitalized child abuse children younger than 18 years between 1997 and 2009. Methods: We selected hospitalized child abuse cases from the Taiwan’s National Health Insurance (NHI) Database in accordance with ICD-9-CM 995.5x or E967.x. Results: There were 1,212 victims of hospitalized child abuse during the research period, including 735 boys and 477 girls. The victims were most frequently inflicted by the father or stepfather, and the most common injury was intracranial damage; besides, the victims most commonly sought treatment in medical centers. Infants younger than 1 year accounted for the highest percentage of hospitalized victims. Although there were no apparent trends in the overall hospitalization rate of the child abuse victims over the 13-year period, the rate of abuse among girls increased gradually over the years. Conclusions: The medical staff in hospitals should provide appropriate treatment to the victims and contact relevant organizations to intervene; moreover, government agencies should formulate effective control measures to develop a safe growth environment for children.

In the calculation of decompression schedules, it is commonly assumed that only the inert gas needs to be considered; all inspired O2 is ignored. Animal experiments have shown that high O2 can increase risk of serious decompression sickness (DCS). A trial was performed to assess the relative risks of O2 and N2 in human no-decompression dives. Controlled dives (477) of 30- to 240-min duration were performed with subjects breathing mixtures with low (0.21–0.38 ATA) or high (1.0–1.5 ATA) Po2. Depths were chosen by a sequential dose-response format. Only 11 cases of DCS and 18 cases of marginal symptoms were recorded despite exceeding the presently accepted no-decompression limits by greater than 20%. Analysis by maximum likelihood showed a shallow dose-response curve for increasing depth. O2 was estimated to have zero influence on DCS risk, although data variability still allows a slight chance that O2 could be 40% as effective as N2 in producing a risk of DCS. Consideration of only inert gases is thus justified in calculating human decompression tables.

ABSTRAK
Pengguna rokok tembakau di Kota Denpasar belum menurun dengan signifikan namun sudah muncul produk baru yaitu rokok elektronik. Proporsi pengguna rokok elektronik di Kota Denpasar saat ini 6.81%. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi penggunaan rokok elektronik pada remaja usia 18-25 tahun di Kota Denpasar 2020. Penelitian ini merupakan analitik kuantitatif dengan rancangan crossectional study menggunakan metode convinience sampling. Sampel penelitian ini yaitu remaja berusia 18-25 tahun minimal tinggal 6 bulan di Kota Denpasar. Besar sampel minimal adalah 149 dengan jumlah partisipasi yaitu 201 responden. Penelitian ini mengumpulkan data karakteristik responden, perilaku merokok elektrik, faktor predisposisi, faktor penguat dan faktor pemungkin menggunakan kuesioner online kobotoolbox. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif dan hubungan antar variabel diuji dengan regresi logistic binary. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan proporsi pengguna rokok elektronik pada remaja di Kota Denpasar sebesar 22.89%. Variabel yang terbukti secara signifikan memiliki hubungan terhadap penggunaan rokok elektronik adalah paparan iklan rokok elektronik (OR=7.15; 95% CI: 2.6119.59;p<0.001), persepsi positif (OR=6.46; 95% CI: 2.45-17.06;p<0.001), jenis kelamin laki-laki (OR=6.25; 95% CI: 2.418.22:p=0.001), keluarga menggunakan rokok elektronik (OR=4.17;95%CI: 1.71-10.11;p<0.005), keterjangkauan (OR=4.38; 95% CI 1.72-11.13;p=<0.005), teman sebaya menggunakan rokok elektronik (OR=477; 95%CI:1.614.14;p<0.005) dan uang saku tinggi (OR=6.85; 95% 1.97-23.72;p<0.005). Penggunaan rokok elektronik di Kota Denpasar tergolong masih tinggi untuk itu diperlukan edukasi tentang bahaya rokok elektronik serta regulasi yang jelas terkait peredaran rokok elektronik.

Tobacco cigarette users in Denpasar City have not decreased significantly, but there is the emergence of new products, which is electronic cigarettes. The proportion of electronic cigarette users in Bali Province is 6,81%. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence the use of electronic cigarettes in adolescents aged 18-25 years in Denpasar City 2020.This study is a quantitative analytic study with a cross-sectional design using conviniece sampling method. The sample of this study is adolescents aged 18-25 years living for a minimum of 6 months in Denpasar City. The minimum sample size is 149 respondents with a total participation of 201 respondents. This study collected data on the characteristics of respondents, electric smoking behavior, predisposing factors, amplifier factors, supporting factors using the online questionnaire (kobotoolbox). Data were analyzed descriptively and the relationship between variables was tested by binary logistic regression. The variables that have been shown to have a significant relationship to the use of electronic cigarettes in Denpasar City is 22,89%. The variable are exposure have significant relationship among the use of electronic cigarettes is electronic cigarette advertisements (OR = 7.15; 95% CI: 2.61-19.59; p <0.001), positive perception (OR = 6.46; 95% CI: 2.45-17.06; p <0.001), male gender (OR = 6.25; 95% CI: 2.41-8.22: p = 0.001), families using electronic cigarettes (OR = 4.17; 95% CI: 1.71-10.11; p <0.005), affordability (OR = 4.38; 95% CI 1.72-11.13; p = <0.005), peers use electronic cigarettes (OR = 477; 95% CI: 1.6-14.14; p <0.005) and high allowance (OR = 6.85; 95 % 1.97-23.72; p <0.005). The use of electronic cigarettes in Denpasar has high, so education about the dangers of electronic cigarettes is needed as well as clear regulations related to electronic cigarettes.

477 Background: Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are markers of host inflammation and have prognostic value in many solid tumors. Here we aimed to explore the association of NLR and PLR with response to tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment in metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Methods: Data from patients with mRCC treated at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centrein Toronto with a TKI as first-line treatment were retrospectively collected. The association of several variables with response to treatment (complete response [CR] or partial response [PR] vs. stable disease > 3 months [SD] or progressive disease [PD]) was assessed by binary logistic regression. Significant variables were dichotomized and cut-offs selected by the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUC) curve. Results: Data from 157 patients treated between 11/2004 and 09/2012 were analyzed. Median age at start of TKI treatment was 61 years and first-line treatment was sunitinib, sorafenib, and other in 49%, 43%, and 8% of patients, respectively. Best response was CR/PR, SD, and PD in 27%, 55%, and 18% patients. On multivariable analysis NLR > 2.5 and Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) < 90% were associated with a lower likelihood of response and each allocated a score of 1 unit. Response rates for a score of 0, 1, or 2 were 45% (29-61%), 28% (17-38%), 10% (1-19%), respectively. PLR did not retain association with response in multivariable analysis. Conclusions: NLR and KPS are associated with response to TKI treatment in mRCC. Data from an external validation set will also be presented.

1. To assess the clinical significance of supernormal left ventricular systolic function in the initial phase of hypertension, 635 never-treated 18–45-year-old borderline to mild hypertensive subjects (477 males, 158 females) were studied. All subjects underwent echocardiography, 24 h ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and 24 h urine collection for catecholamine dosage. 2. Subjects whose left ventricular shortening-stress relationship was above the 95% confidence intervals of 50 normotensive subjects of similar age and sex distribution were defined as having supernormal function. 3. Age, duration of hypertension and left ventricular mass were similar in the hypertensive subjects with normal (85%) and supernormal (15%) ejective performance. Subjects with supernormal function showed higher office systolic blood pressure (P < 0001), office heart rate (P = 0.03) and cardiac index (P < 0001). Conversely, 24 h systolic blood pressure, 24 h heart rate and 24 h catecholamine output did not differ according to left ventricular function. 4. In conclusion, the greater white-coat effect and the normal baseline sympathetic tone exhibited by the patients with increased performance suggest that supernormal left ventricular pump function is only a marker of the alerting reaction elicited by the echocardiographic examination.

En este estudio comparamos las comunidades de arañas de bosques y pastizales en la Estancia San Francisco y la Estancia San Carlos; Sitio RAMSAR, Humedales Chaco. Recolectamos los ejemplares de arañas mediante las técnicas de captura golpeteo de follaje, tamizado de hojarasca, captura directa y aspirado del pastizal. Se obtuvieron 1 477 arañas, 34 familias y 261 especies/morfoespecies de Araneomorphae. 18 son nuevos registros para Argentina. Araneidae fue la más abundante en los dos sitios, Araneidae, Theridiidae y Salticidae las de mayor riqueza específica. Las curvas de rango-abundancia marcaron que las comunidades se estructuran de manera diferente en ambos sitios, en cuanto a las abundancias, el tipo de especie dominante, la composición de especies y la proporción de especies raras. La comparación de la diversidad verdadera mostró que el bosque y pastizal de San Carlos fueron más diversos, lo cual podría estar relacionada a la estructura del bosque y a un mayor grado de conservación del mismo. Este estudio mostró una importante riqueza y abundancia de arañas que componen comunidades diferentes en estas áreas del sitio RAMSAR, y sugiere profundizar en investigaciones futuras abarcando otras unidades ambientales de dicho sitio.

Mechanisms determining both functional rate of decline and the time of onset in aging remain elusive. Studies of the aging process especially those involving the comparison of long-lived individuals and young controls are fairly limited. Therefore, this research aims to determine the differential gene expression profile in related individuals from villages in Pahang, Malaysia. Genome-wide microarray analysis of 18 samples of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from two groups: octo/nonagenarians (80–99 years old) and their offspring (50.2 ± 4.0years old) revealed that 477 transcripts were age-induced and 335 transcripts were age-repressed with fold changes ≥1.2 in octo/nonagenarians compared to offspring. Interestingly, changes in gene expression were associated with increased capacity for apoptosis (BAK1), cell cycle regulation (CDKN1B), metabolic process (LRPAP1), insulin action (IGF2R), and increased immune and inflammatory response (IL27RA), whereas response to stress (HSPA8), damage stimulus (XRCC6), and chromatin remodelling (TINF2) pathways were downregulated in octo/nonagenarians. These results suggested that systemic telomere maintenance, metabolism, cell signalling, and redox regulation may be important for individuals to maintain their healthy state with advancing age and that these processes play an important role in the determination of the healthy life-span.

Model organizacijskog zdravlja pravi zaokret u tradiciji proučavanja stresa na radu, jer se simultano fokusira kako na individualne indikatore blagostanja, tako i na pokazatelje organizacijske uspešnosti. Svrha ovog istraživanja bila je da na osnovu intenziteta pozitivnih i negativnih iskustava na radu predvidi neke od pokazatelja organizacijskog zdravlja, kao što su nivo izgaranja i radne angažovanosti, te odgovorno organizacijsko ponašanje i namera za napuštanje organizacije. 477 zaposlenih (prosečne starosti oko 39 godina) iz 18 kompanija sa teritorije AP Vojvodine popunilo je Skalu pozitivnih i negativnih iskustava na radu (PNWES), Skalu izgaranja (WB), Upitnik radne angažovanosti (UWES-9), Srpski inventar afekata (SIAB-PANAS), skraćenu verziju Skale privrežnosti organizaciji (OCS), te Skalu odgovornog organizacijskog ponašanja (OCBS) i Skalu namere za napuštanje organizacije (NNO). Rezultati modelovanja pomoću strukturalnih jednačina pokazali su da testirani hipotetski model ima dobre indekse podesnosti i da su relacije među varijablama očekivanog smera. Tako je pokazano da pozitivna iskustva na radu predviđaju radnu angažovanost, i indirektno, odgovorno ponašanje na radu. Sa druge strane, negativna iskustva predviđaju izgaranje i, indirektno, nameru za napuštanje organizacije. Privrženost se pokazala kao centralni medijator u modelu. Rezultati su diskutovani u kontekstu Modela oragnizacijskog zdravlja, a istaknute su i praktične koristi od dobijenih nalaza.

To assess the level of knowledge of Brazilian dental students about organ donation and transplantation. The 477 undergraduate Brazilian dental students, in the first or in the last year of the course, were questioned from March 2011 to June 2012. Data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and differences between groups were analyzed by the chi-squared test. Only 84 (18%) reported having already attended to some class about the topic organ transplantation. Students reported knowing the brain death definition, but they did not know how the diagnosis of brain death is made (P =0.148). Students in the first and fifth years did not know about the maintenance care of potential organ donors (P=0.148) and how to approach the family about donation in case of brain death (P=0.561). Our study has demonstrated a lack of knowledge about organ donation and transplantation among undergraduate students in the four dental schools investigated. Nationwide, curriculum implementation is suggested in order to prepare dental care professions to integrate a transplantation team. Further investigation is necessary in order to evaluate dental student knowledge in other Brazilian regions.

Abstract Context: Specific serum fatty acid (FA) profiles predict the development of incident type 2 diabetes; however, limited longitudinal data exist exploring their role in the progression of insulin sensitivity (IS) and β-cell function. Objective: To examine the longitudinal associations of the FA composition of serum phospholipid (PL) and cholesteryl ester (CE) fractions with IS and β-cell function over 6 years. Design: The Prospective Metabolism and Islet Cell Evaluation (PROMISE) cohort is a longitudinal observational study, with clinic visits occurring every 3 years. Three visits have been completed, totaling 6 years of follow-up. Setting: Individuals (n = 477) at risk for diabetes recruited from the general population in London and Toronto, Canada. Main Outcome Measures: Values from an oral glucose tolerance test were used to compute 1/HOMA-IR and the Matsuda index for IS, the insulinogenic index over HOMA-IR, and the insulin secretion-sensitivity index-2 for β-cell function. Thin-layer chromatograph and gas chromatograph quantified FA. Generalized estimating equations were used for the analysis. Results: IS and β-cell function declined by 8.3–19.4% over 6 years. In fully adjusted generalized estimating equation models, PL cis-vaccenate (18:1n-7) was positively associated with all outcomes, whereas γ-linolenate (GLA; 18:3n-6) and stearate (18:0) were negatively associated with IS. Tests for time interactions revealed that PL eicosadienoate (20:2n-6) and palmitate (16:0) and CE dihomo-γ-linolenate (20:3n-6), GLA, and palmitate had stronger associations with the outcomes after longer follow-up. Conclusions: In a Canadian population at risk for diabetes, we found that higher PL stearate and GLA and lower cis-vaccenic acid predicted consistently lower IS and β-cell function over 6 years.

e16525 Background: For optimal nmCRPC management, it is important to assess the rate of disease progression and its predictors. MFS and OS endpoints are likely to be important determinants in evaluating the relative impact of treatments in nmCRPC patients. This study assessed the association of PSADT with MFS and OS in real world practice. Methods: A retrospective cohort study of men ≥18 years old was conducted using the Optum electronic health record (EHR) database (2007-2016). nmCRPC was defined as a prostate cancer diagnosis, no ICD-9/10 code or therapy indicating metastatic disease, a testosterone (T) level < 50 ng/dL (castrate level) and 2 rising PSAs (relative rise ≥25%; absolute rise ≥2 ng/mL above nadir) ≥1 week apart. Baseline PSADT, calculated from the PSA nadir until 2nd rise of PSA, was grouped into < 6, 6-18 or > 18 months. A Cox proportional hazard model was used to assess the association of baseline PSADT with MFS and OS, comparing PSADT < 6 and 6-18 months against PSADT > 18 months. Multivariable analysis was adjusted for age, race, comorbidity index score, T levels, therapy and bone scans before nmCRPC. A linear trend was tested by taking PSADT as a continuous variable (median value in each group) in the model. Results: A total of 901 patients were identified. Mean nmCRPC onset age was 76 years and mean follow-up time was 2 years. The median PSADT was 7 months, ranging from 0.5 to 267 months. During follow-up, 477 patients developed metastasis and 384 died. MFS was 89%, 60%, and 47% at year 1, 3 and 5, respectively. Men with PSADT < 6 and 6-18 months had ≥50% increased risk of shorter MFS than men with PSADT > 18 months; hazard ratios (HR) were 1.87 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.39-2.54) and 1.50 (95%CI: 1.11-2.04), respectively. OS was 87%, 64% and 57% at year 1, 3 and 5, respectively. Shorter PSADT was associated with shorter OS (p for trend < 0.001). Men with a PSADT < 6 months had a 2-fold increased risk for decreased OS (HR = 2.04, 95% CI: 1.44-2.90). Conclusions: Patients with nmCPRC with shorter PSADT had significantly shorter MFS and OS compared to those with longer PSADT. Baseline PSADT may serve as a predictor for nmCRPC progression.

INTRODUCTION: Social media is a mode of communication that allows a person to create and share information with others. Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Google+, YouTube etc are some examples of social media applications and they allow people to communicate across the world. There is very less literature available that shows the effect of social media in esthetics in India.
AIM: To conduct an online survey to see the impact of using social media on esthetic dental treatments.
MATERIALS AND METHOD: 477 questionnaires were returned with responses and the data was entered into the MS excel sheet. Descriptive statistics was used for the frequency distribution and Chi Square was applied for the statistical relationship between male and female variables (at 5% significance).
RESULTS: Four hundred seventy seven participants responded to this study through online forms. Most of the participants belonged to the age group of 26-35 years (n=256), followed by 18-25 years (n= 137), 36-45 years and > 45 years (n= 55 & 29 respectively). The response of females was high (63.5%) when compared to males.
CONCLUSION: Females tend to follow dentists more as compare to males on social media. In dental practice, social media has become a widely used for exchanging and obtaining information.

Varias investigaciones en Colombia han reportado que las dos sustancias psicoactivas de mayor consumo en jóvenes de 10 a 24 años, son el alcohol (legal) y la marihuana (ilegal). Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar las relaciones entre el consumo de estas dos sustancias y la depresión, el estrés académico y la ideación suicida en una muestra de 477 estudiantes universitarios colombianos de 18 a 25 años sin diagnóstico psicopatológico. El tipo de investigación fue cuantitativa, transversal, con un diseño no experimental de nivel correlacional. De todas las variables analizadas solo la ideación suicida presentó valores por encima de la media. Las demás variables tuvieron valores dentro de lo normal o por debajo de la media. La ideación suicida solo correlacionó con el estrés académico. No hubo correlaciones entre la ideación suicida y el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas o entre la ideación suicida y la depresión. Sí se encontró una correlación entre el estrés académico y la depresión, y entre la depresión y el consumo de sustancias. Se sugiere, aunque no sea posible probarlo por el diseño ni por el tipo de análisis, que la depresión actúa como una variable moderadora del efecto del estrés académico sobre la ideación suicida.

Bariatric/metabolic surgery is considered an accepted treatment option for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with body mass index (BMI) ≧ 35 kg/m2. Mounting evidence also shows that metabolic surgery is effective for T2DM with BMI < 35 kg/m2. To evaluate current status of metabolic surgery, we reviewed the available clinical studies which described surgical treatment for T2DM with mean BMI < 35 kg/m2. 18 studies with 477 patients were identified. 30% of the patients was insulin users. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 216 months. The weight loss effect was reasonable, not excessive. Mean BMI decreased from 30.4 to 24.8 kg/m2. Remission of T2DM was achieved in 64.7% of the patients with fasting plasma glucose and glycated hemoglobin approaching slightly above normal range. Clinical T2DM status was an important factor when selecting the eligible candidates for metabolic surgery. Postoperative complication rate of 10.3% with mortality of 0% in the studies has been acceptable. Even though it would be premature at this point to state that metabolic surgery is an accepted treatment option for T2DM with BMI < 35 kg/m2, it is clear that a high proportion of T2DM patients will derive substantial benefit from metabolic surgery.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between function and disease activity in early inflammatory arthritis (EIA). Methods: Canadian Early Arthritis Cohort (CATCH) (n=1143) is a multi-site EIA cohort. Correlations between the Health Assessment Questionnaire Disability Index (HAQ) and DAS28 were done at every 3 months for the first year and then at 18 and 24 months. We also investigated the relationship between HAQ and DAS28 by age (<65 versus ≥65) and RF (positive vs negative). Results: Mean HAQ and DAS28 scores were highest at the initial visit with HAQ decreasing over 24 months from a baseline of 0.94 to 0.40 and DAS28 scores decreasing from 4.54 to 2.29. All correlations between HAQ and DAS28 were significant at all time points (p<0.01). The correlations between HAQ and DAS28 were variable over time. The strongest correlation between HAQ and DAS28 occurred at initial visit (most DMARD naive) (n=1,143) and 18 months (r=0.57, n=321) and 24 months (r=0.59, n=214). The baseline correlation between HAQ and DAS28 was significantly different than correlations obtained at 3, 6, and 12 months (p=0.02, 0.01, and 0.01, respectively). Age did not change the association between HAQ and DAS28 {<65 years old (r=0.50, n=868) versus ≥65 (r=0.48, n=254), p=0.49}. The correlation between HAQ and DAS28 was stronger with RF+ patients (r=0.63, n=636) vs RF negative (r=0.47, n=477), p=0.0043 Conclusion: Over 2 years in EIA, HAQ and DAS both improved; correlations at time points were different over 2 years and RF status affected the correlations.

Background: There are three cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) training pathways—general surgery residency followed by a CTS residency of 2-3 years (traditional), 4 years of general surgery and 3 years of CTS residency (4+3), and an integrated 6-year pathway (I-6). The goal of this study was to survey early career cardiothoracic surgeons regarding their training experiences. Methods: An email-based survey was sent to cardiothoracic surgeons, who graduated between 2012-2017. Data on training pathway specific variables and overall satisfaction were collected. The primary endpoints were career preparation and satisfaction, scored on a scale from 1-100, 100 being the most positive. Results: Four hundred seventy-seven emails were sent, with a response rate of 95/477 (20%). Seventy-six of the respondents (80%) were male; the mean age was 39. Seventy-seven (81.0%) completed a traditional training pathway, 7 (7.4%) completed a 4+3 pathway, and 11 (11.6%) completed an I-6 pathway. Participants felt prepared for practice with a mean response of 79.8 (range 31-100); mean career satisfaction was 87.6. When asked which pathway respondents would choose in the current era, 52 (54.7%) would choose a traditional pathway, 17 (17.9%) a 4+3 pathway, and 19 (20.0%) an I-6 program; 7 (7.4%) did not respond. Twenty of 72 (27.8%) traditional pathway trained and 18/18(100%) integrated pathway trained surgeons would choose an integrated pathway. Conclusions: This is the first survey addressing perceptions of training from early-career cardiothoracic surgeons across all training pathways. Data from this study provides insights to better understand how to improve CTS training for the next generation of surgeons.

Abstract. This paper presents an exploratory study on the aerosol layer height (ALH) retrieval from the OMI 477 nm O2 − O2 spectral band. We have developed algorithms based on the multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network (NN) approach and applied them to 3-year (2005–2007) OMI cloud-free scenes over north-east Asia, collocated with MODIS Aqua aerosol product. In addition to the importance of aerosol altitude for climate and air quality objectives, our long-term motivation is to evaluate the possibility of retrieving ALH for potential future improvements of trace gas retrievals (e.g. NO2, HCHO, SO2) from UV–visible air quality satellite measurements over scenes including high aerosol concentrations. This study presents a first step of this long-term objective and evaluates, from a statistic point of view, an ensemble of OMI ALH retrievals over a long time period of 3 years covering a large industrialized continental region. This ALH retrieval relies on the analysis of the O2 − O2 slant column density (SCD) and requires an accurate knowledge of the aerosol optical thickness, τ. Using MODIS Aqua τ(550 nm) as a prior information, absolute seasonal differences between the LIdar climatology of vertical Aerosol Structure for space-based lidar simulation (LIVAS) and average OMI ALH, over scenes with MODIS τ(550 nm) ≥ 1. 0, are in the range of 260–800 m (assuming single scattering albedo ω0 = 0. 95) and 180–310 m (assuming ω0 = 0. 9). OMI ALH retrievals depend on the assumed aerosol single scattering albedo (sensitivity up to 660 m) and the chosen surface albedo (variation less than 200 m between OMLER and MODIS black-sky albedo). Scenes with τ ≤ 0. 5 are expected to show too large biases due to the little impact of particles on the O2 − O2 SCD changes. In addition, NN algorithms also enable aerosol optical thickness retrieval by exploring the OMI reflectance in the continuum. Comparisons with collocated MODIS Aqua show agreements between −0. 02 ± 0. 45 and −0. 18 ± 0. 24, depending on the season. Improvements may be obtained from a better knowledge of the surface albedo and higher accuracy of the aerosol model. Following the previous work over ocean of Park et al.(2016), our study shows the first encouraging aerosol layer height retrieval results over land from satellite observations of the 477 nm O2 − O2 absorption spectral band.

Abstract: Self Efficacy in Mathematics and in Mathematics Teaching among Junior High-school Teachers. This study investigates teachers’ self efficacy in mathematics and in mathematics teaching, involving 38 junior high school mathematics teachers in the city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The research instrument to measure self efficacy in mathematics consists of 18 questions with a reliability coefficient of .86, whereas the one to measure mathematics-teaching self efficacy consists of 18 statements with a reliability coefficient of .826. Both instruments were adapted from the Mathematics Teaching and Mathematics Self-Efficacy Scale (MTMSE) developed by Kahle (2008). The results show that mathematics self efficacy and teaching mathematics self efficacy of the junior high school mathematics teachers in the city of Yogyakarta are high, with a correlation coefficient of .477. The mathematics self-efficacy instrument consists of three parts, namely arithmetics, algebra, and geometrics, and arithmetic self-efficacy is found to be positively correlated with teaching mathematics self-efficacy with a multiple correlation coefficient of 0,605.Abstrak: Self-Efficacy Matematika dan Self-Efficacy Mengajar Matematika Guru Matematika SMP Kota Yogyakarta. Self-efficacy matematika adalah konsep diri terkait kepercayaan individu pada kemampuannya untuk melakukan atau menyelesaikan suatu tugas atau masalah matematika. Self-efficacy mengajar matematika merupakan keyakinan seorang guru terhadap kemampuannya untuk mengatur dan melaksanakan tindakan pembelajaran matematika demi mencapai suatu tujuan serta yakin mampu untuk menghadapi segala tantangan dan mampu memprediksi seberapa besar usaha yang dibutuhkan untuk mencapai tujuan yang tepat dalam pembelajaran matematika. Penelitian tentang self-efficacy matematika self-efficacy mengajar matematika telah dilakukan terhadap 38 guru matematika SMP di kota Yogyakarta. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari dua bagian. Pertama adalah instrumen self-efficacy matematika yang terdiri dari 18 petanyaan dengan koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,860. Kedua adalah instrumen self-efficacy mengajar matematika yang terdiri dari 18 pernyataan dengan koefisien reliabilitas sebesar 0,826. Kedua intrumen tersebut diadaptasi dari Mathematics Teaching and Mathematics Self-Efficacy Scale (MTMSE) yang dikembangkan oleh Kahle (2008). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa self-efficacy matematika dan self-efficacy mengajar matematika guru SMP di kota Yogyakarta termasuk tinggi dengan koefisien korelasi antara keduanya sebesar 0,477. Instrumen self-efficacy matematika terdiri dari tiga bagian yaitu aritmatika, aljabar, dan geometrika. Hanya self-efficacy aritmatika yang berkorelasi positif dengan self-efficacy mengajar matematika dengan koefisien korelasi ganda sebesar 0,605.

The present study was conducted to compare the growth performance of White, Black and Bronze color type of turkeys, which have been currently introduced in Bangladesh. The birds were reared under semi-intensive system at BAU Poultry Farm with supplementation of commercial broiler grower and layer feeds. Key objectives were to investigate the growth performance of locally found turkeys (known as heritage turkeys) under semi-intensive rearing system and to recommend turkey as a supplementary part of existing poultry business in the country. A total of 46 poults of White, Black and Bronze color type unsexed birds of 5 weeks age were housed. Birds were reared under similar management conditions and feeds were purchased from local market. No significant difference (p>0.05) in live weight for three color types were found. At the end of 21 weeks rearing, Bronze type turkeys attained highest live body weight (3720.71g/bird) while White type turkeys attained lowest (3282.29g/bird). The Black type turkeys however, attained 3552.86g/bird body weight. The live weight gain was increased gradually but decreased again after 18 weeks of age. Weekly weight gains were highest in all color types at 18 weeks of age where white type male turkey attained the highest (440.71g/bird) and black type showed the lowest weight gain (345.00g/bird). No significant difference (p>0.05) in FCR among the three color types were found. Survivability under semi intensive system of three different color types, White, Black and Bronze were 100%, 88.46% and 91.67% respectively. Taken together, the growth performance of Bronze type turkey was superior to other color types used in this experiment. Therefore, it can be concluded that turkey farming will viable in Bangladesh with available local varieties under semi-intensive system through feeding of commercial broiler and layer feeds.

SUMMARYAnnual H3N2 subtype influenza outbreaks in Guangdong, China are a severe public health issue and require ongoing monitoring of emerging viral variants. The variation and evolution of haemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genes of influenza isolates from Guangdong during 2007–2011 and others from GenBank were analysed using Lasergene 7.1 and MEGA 5.05, and serological analysis of antigens was determined by haemagglutination inhibition (HI). Susceptibility to antiviral drugs was correlated with genetic mutations. Phylogenetic analysis and alignment of HA and NA genes were performed on 18 Guangdong isolates and 26 global reference strains. The non-synonymous (dN) evolutionary rate of HA1 was 3·13 times that of HA2. Compared with the A/Perth/16/2009 vaccine HA gene, homologies of Guangdong isolates were between 98·8–99·7% and 98·0–98·4% in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Amino-acid substitutions were found in five epitopes of HA1 from Guangdong isolates between 2007 and 2011, especially in epitopes B (N160K) and D (K174R/N). The K189E/N/Q and T228A mutations in the receptor-binding site (RBS) occurred in the 2010 strains, which affected the antigenicity of HA1. The antigenicity of the epidemic H3N2 isolates in 2010 was somewhat different from that of A/Perth/16/2009. The Guangdong H3N2 isolates were determined to be oseltamivir-resistant with IC50 of 0·396±0·085 nmol/l (n=17) and zanamivir-resistant with IC50 of 0·477±0·149 nmol/l (n=18). Variations were present in epitopes B and D, two sites in the RBS and two glycosylation sites in the Guangdong H3N2 HA1 gene. The majority of the Guangdong H3N2 isolates were sensitive to oseltamivir and zanamivir. Compared to the World Health Organization 2012 vaccine strains, Guangdong H3N2 strains varied genetically and antigenically to some degree.
