A growing consumption of electrical energy is necessary for automotives. The present voltage level of automotive power system has increased to 42V. 42V/14V dual voltage system is a prefer choice based on consideration of economy and technology now. In the dual voltage system, a DC/DC converter is needed between the two DC buses. The synchronous rectifier Buck converter is chosen for building the 14V/30A output prototype. The design and loss analysis of converter are given. The experimental results are also included.

The paper compared respective advantages and disadvantages of batteries and ultra capacitors as an energy source applied in hybrid electrical vehicle, selected the collectivity project of synergic electric power based on batteries and ultra capacitors, analyzed the work process of synergic electric power, through analysis and demonstration and experimental data validated the scheme is feasible.

The tunable capacitors have been fabricated by copper electroplating and MEMS(Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) technology. The thickness of electroplated copper which is used for moving electrode for variable capacitor below 0.5μm for lower actuation voltage. The fabricated tunable capacitors have been tested from 0V~42V and the resulting tuning range was between 62.3% and 90.2%. Also, the error rates have been presented ± 2.7% below.

The ambient energy harvesting based on piezoelectric has become an important subject in recent research publications. A new rectangular-loop piezoelectric energy harvester(RLPEH) is proposed. The characteristic is analyzed by the finite element analysis (FEA) which includes the static analysis, modal analysis and harmonic response analysis. The analysis results show that the RLPEH could reduce the resonant frequency and improve the output voltage. The three order resonant frequency is 18.6Hz, 40.8Hz and 85.4Hz. The output voltage is 42V under 3m/s2 of acceleration and the effective bandwidth is 18.7Hz with output voltage above 10V.

Рассмотрены результаты Rb-Sr-, 147Sm-143Nd-датирования комплекса параллельных долеритовых даек и пород Платиноносного пояса Урала в Тагильском сегменте палеоокеанической спрединговой структуры среднего Урала. Rb-Sr-систематика для габбро выявляет эррохронные зависимости, определяющие возрасты 415 и 345 млн лет при (87Sr/86Sr)0 0,70385±0,00068 и 0,7029±0,0010, соответственно.Изохронные 147Sm-143Nd-датировки демонстрируют определённое совпадение хронометрических возрастов долеритов дайкового комплекса (426±54; 426±34; 424±19 млн лет) и габбро самого Ревдинского габбро-гипербазитового массива (431±27 млн лет) и габбро из скринов между даек в дайковом комплексе (427±32; 429±26 млн лет). Близость147Sm-143Nd-возрастов габбро и долеритов объясняют термальным воздействием базальтового расплава, образовавшего дайковый комплекс, на вмещающие габбро.

This study which is to be seen in connection with the edition in vol. 3 [38](2005) of this journal, pp. 163–212, analyzes some of the 50 anonymous questions on the Ars vetus in the manuscript Vienna ÖNB 5461, fol. 90ra–119vb. This work is certainly a product of the current of late medieval Parisian nominalism or Buridanism. It also shows striking similarities to the questions on the Ars vetus extant in manuscript Tortosa AC 108, fol. 1r–42v, which are ascribed there to John Buridan. Whether this ascription is correct, cannot be proven nor disproven at present. Regarding the Vienna questions Buridan’s authorship is also just possible, although not very likely. At any rate, both works in the Vienna and Tortosa manuscripts are interesting pieces of the literary legacy of Buridanism.

A simple, rapid, and extractive spectrophotometric methods was developed for the determination of some postsynaptic ?-1 adrenoreceptor antagonist; doxazosin mesylate (DOX), terazosin (TRZ) and alfuzosine HCl (ALF) in pure forms and pharmaceutical formulations. The developed methods are based on the formation of yellow colored chloroform ion-pair complexes between the basic nitrogen of the drugs and dyes, namely; bromocresol green (BCG), bromothymol blue (BTB), methyl orange (MO) and alizarine red S (ARS), in acidic buffer of pH range (3.0-5.0). The formed complexes were extracted with chloroform or dichloromethane and measured at 418, 414, 425 and 426 nm for DOX and at 419, 415, 425 and 428 for TRZ and at 418, 412, 421 and 427 nm for ALF using BCG, BTB, MO and ARS, respectively. The analytical parameters and their effects on the reported systems are investigated. Beer?s law was obeyed in the range 1.0-130 ?g mL?1 with correlation coefficient (n = 6) ? 0.9991. The molar absorpitivity, Sandell sensitivity, detection and quantification limits were also calculated. The composition of the ion associates was found 1:1 by Job?s method. The proposed methods have been applied successfully for the analysis of the studied drugs in pure forms and in pharmaceutical formulations with percentage recoveries ranges from 99.18-100.61. The results of analysis were validated statistically. The results were in good agreement and compared with those obtained with reported methods.

O ensaio foi instalado em uma área de renovação de canavial, em cultivo mínimo, no ano agrícola 2019/20, na região de Iturama-MG. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, contendo quatro repetições e oito tratamentos: as linhagens 18-2101 OL, 17-1253 OL, 18-2133 OL, 18-2136 OL, 18-1952 OL e as cultivares BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL, desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento do Amendoim da Embrapa. As parcelas foram constituídas por duas linhas de três metros de comprimento, espaçamentos entre linhas de noventa centímetros e intervalo de três metros entre parcelas. Foram avaliados severidade de mancha preta, massa de 100 grãos e produtividade de vagens. As menores severidades de mancha preta foram observadas nas cultivares BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL. A maior massa de grãos foi observada na BRS 421 OL (81,8 g), sendo os demais genótipos entre 74,4 e 77,6 g. Os genótipos mais produtivos foram 18-2101 OL, BRS 423 OL, 17-1253 OL, BRS 421 OL e 18-2133 OL.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho agronômico de genótipos de amendoim: três cultivares e duas linhagens. O experimento foi desenvolvido área experimental do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso – Campus São Vicente, Centro de Referência de Campo Verde, localizado no município de Campo Verde – MT, no ano agrícola 2019/20. Os tratamentos constam de cinco genótipos de amendoim rasteiro, três cultivares: BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL e duas linhagens avançadas: 17-1253 OL e 18-1952 OL, desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento do Amendoim da Embrapa. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As parcelas foram compostas por duas linhas de três metros de comprimento, espaçamento ente linhas de 0,90 m, intervalo entre parcelas de dois metros e parcela útil 5,4 m2. Foram avaliados severidade de mancha preta, massa de 100 grãos e produtividade de vagens. Todas as cultivares apresentaram as menores notas de severidade de mancha preta. Os genótipos BRS 425 OL, BRS 421 OL, 17-1253 OL e BRS 423 OL foram os mais produtivos. Constata-se nesta safra resultados de adaptação agronômica das cultivares BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL nas condições edafoclimáticas presentes durante o experimento.

Abstract Down syndrome (DS) research is advancing rapidly, yet efforts have raised ethical questions. This mixed methods study describes views of people with DS (self-advocates) and their parents regarding medical interventions for DS. Responses from 35/171 (20.5%) self-advocates and 430/867 (49.6%) parents showed the majority of self-advocates were glad they have DS (27/35; 77.1%) and liked who they are (33/35; 94.3%), but did want to learn faster (23/35; 65.7%). Parents much more commonly agreed with a willingness to give medications to prevent Alzheimer's disease (427/429; 99.5%) or blood cancer (428/430; 99.5%) as compared with a medicine to cure DS (225/425; 52.9%). Qualitative comments intertwined DS with identity, yet indicated desire for improved quality of life and opportunities. Responses decoupled DS itself from the complications of DS, with treatment of complications being more acceptable.

Chimeric 101F (ch101F) is a mouse–human chimeric anti-human respiratory syncytial virus (HRSV) neutralizing antibody that recognizes residues within antigenic site IV, V, VI of the fusion (F) glycoprotein. The binding of ch101F to a series of peptides overlapping aa 422–438 spanning antigenic site IV, V, VI was analysed. Residues 423–436 comprise the minimal peptide sequence for ch101F binding. Substitution analysis revealed that R429 and K433 are critical for ch101F binding, whilst K427 makes a minor contribution. Binding of ch101F to a series of single mutations at positions 427, 429 and 433 in the F protein expressed recombinantly on the cell surface confirmed the peptide results. Sequence analysis of viruses selected for resistance to neutralization by ch101F indicated that a single change (K433T) in the F protein allowed ch101F escape. The results confirm that ch101F and palivizumab have different epitope specificity and define key residues for ch101F recognition.

ABSTRACT Rice (Oryza spp.), the most important cereal in the world, is grown and consumed in all continents. Brazil is among the top ten producing countries. Stored grains can be attacked by pests (rodents, insects, fungi and mites) that cause serious qualitative and quantitative losses. Because of these losses, one way to alleviate the problem caused by insects during rice storage is the use of resistant materials (grains). Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate grains from nine different genotypes of rice, in order to identify the existence of materials less susceptible to the attack of Sitophilus zeamais, during 180 days of storage. The mean time of biological cycle (days), susceptibility index (IS) and the number of weevils emerged were evaluated. According to the results, grains of the genotypes IRGA 426 and Puitá were the most susceptible and the genotypes BR-IRGA 409, IRGA 424, IRGA 425 and IRGA 427 were the least susceptible to the attack of Sitophilus zeamais.

Objective This study aims to comprehensively consider patient experience, including relationship-centered care measures, to assess patient satisfaction during virtual visits. Methods We conducted a large survey study with open-ended questions to comprehensively assess patients’ experiences with virtual visits in a diverse patient population. Adults with a virtual visit between June 21, 2017, and July 12, 2017, were invited to complete a survey of 21 Likert-scale items and textboxes for comments following their visit. Factor analysis of the survey items revealed three factors: experience with technology, patient-clinician engagement, and overall satisfaction. Multivariable logistic regression was used to test the associations among the three factors and patient demographics, clinician type, and prior relationship with the clinician. Using qualitative framework analysis, we identified recurrent themes in survey comments, quantitatively coded comments, and computed descriptive statistics of the coded comments. Results A total of 65.7% (426/648) of the patients completed the survey; 64.1% (273/426) of the respondents were women, and the average age was 46 (range 18-86) years. The sample was geographically diverse: 70.2% (299/426) from Ohio, 6.8% (29/426) from Florida, 4.2% (18/426) from Pennsylvania, and 18.7% (80/426) from other states. With regard to insurance coverage, 57.5% (245/426) were undetermined, 23.7% (101/426) had the hospital’s employee health insurance, and 18.7% (80/426) had other private insurance. Types of virtual visits and clinicians varied. Overall, 58.4% (249/426) of patients had an on-demand visit, whereas 41.5% (177/426) had a scheduled visit. A total of 41.8% (178/426) of patients had a virtual visit with a family physician, 20.9% (89/426) with an advanced practice provider, and the rest had a visit with a specialist. Most patients (393/423, 92.9%) agreed that their virtual visit clinician was interested in them as a person, and their virtual visit made it easy to get the care they needed (383/421, 90.9%). A total of 81.9% (344/420) of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that their virtual visit was as good as an in-person visit by a clinician. Having a prior relationship with their virtual visit clinician was associated with less comfort and ease with virtual technology among patients (odds ratio 0.58, 95% CI 0.35-0.98). In terms of technology, patients found the interface easy to use (392/423, 92.7%) and felt comfortable using it (401/423, 94.8%). Technical difficulties were associated with lower odds of overall satisfaction (odds ratio 0.46, 95% CI 0.28-0.76). Conclusions Patient-clinician engagement in virtual visits was comparable with in-person visits. This study supports the value and acceptance of virtual visits. Evaluations of virtual visits should include assessments of technology and patient-clinician engagement, as both are likely to influence patient satisfaction.

Background—Routine coagulation tests do not necessarily reflect haemostasis in vivo in cirrhotic patients, particularly those who have bleeding varices. Thrombelastography (TEG) can provide a global assessment of haemostatic function from initial clot formation to clot dissolution.Aim—To evaluate TEG changes in cirrhotic patients with variceal bleeding and their association with early rebleeding.Patients/Methods—Twenty cirrhotic patients with active variceal bleeding had serial TEG and routine coagulation tests daily for seven days. The TEG variables before the day of rebleeding (n = 6) were compared with those of patients without rebleeding (n = 14).Results—Baseline characteristics of the rebleeding and non-rebleeding groups were comparable apart from a higher incidence of uncontrolled infection on the day of rebleeding in the rebleeding group (p = 0.007). The patients in the rebleeding group were more hypocoagulable before the day of rebleeding as shown by longer r (42v 24 mm, p<0.001) and k(48 v 13 mm, p<0.001) and smallera (12 v 38°, p<0.001) compared with the mean of daily results of the non-rebleeding group. Routine coagulation tests, however, showed no significant differences between the two groups.Conclusion—The results of serial TEG measurements suggest that hypocoagulability may be associated with early rebleeding in cirrhotic patients.

Purpose Adjuvant breast irradiation has been associated with an increase in cardiac mortality, because left-sided breast radiation can produce cardiac damage. The purpose of this study was to determine whether modern adjuvant radiotherapy is associated with increased risk of cardiac morbidity. Patients and Methods Data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results–Medicare database were used for women who were diagnosed with nonmetastatic breast cancer from 1986 to 1993, had known disease laterality, underwent breast surgery, and received adjuvant radiotherapy. The Cox proportional-hazards model was used to compare patients with left- versus right-sided breast cancer for the end points of hospitalization with the following discharge diagnoses (International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision codes): ischemic heart disease (410-414, 36.0, and 36.1), valvular heart disease (394-397, 424, 35), congestive heart failure (428, 402.01, 402.11, 402.91, and 425), and conduction abnormalities (426, 427, 37.7-37.8, and 37.94-37.99). Results Eight thousand three hundred sixty-three patients had left-sided breast cancer, and 7,907 had right-sided breast cancer. Mean follow-up was 9.5 years (range, 0 to 15 years). There were no significant differences in patients with left- versus right-sided cancers for hospitalization for ischemic heart disease (9.9% v 9.7%), valvular heart disease (2.9% v 2.8%), conduction abnormalities (9.7% v 9.6%), or heart failure (9.7% v 9.7%). The adjusted hazard ratio for left- versus right-sided breast cancer was 1.05 (95% CI, 0.94 to 1.16) for ischemic heart disease, 1.07 (95% CI, 0.89 to 1.30) for valvular heart disease, 1.07 (95% CI, 0.96 to 1.19) for conduction abnormalities, and 1.05 (95% CI, 0.95 to 1.17) for heart failure. Conclusion With up to 15 years of follow-up there were no significant differences in cardiac morbidity after radiation for left- versus right-sided breast cancer.

Nos últimos anos, Sorriso se tornou o maior produtor de grãos nacional, provocando importantes transformações econômicas, sociais e na paisagem local. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o desempenho agronômico de genótipos de amendoim nas condições de Sorriso-MT. O experimento foi realizado na área experimental do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso - Campus Sorriso, localizado no município de Sorriso-MT, com semeadura manual realizada no dia 18 de dezembro de 2019. Foi utilizado delineamento em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos constaram de oito genótipos de amendoim, sendo 4 cultivares (BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL e EC 98 AO) e 4 linhagens (18-1253 OL, 18-1952 OL, 18-2133 OL e 18-2136 OL). As parcelas eram compostas por duas linhas de três metros de comprimento, espaçadas em 0,90 m, com intervalo de dois metros entre parcelas e área útil para avaliação de 5,4 m2 na parcela. Os manejos cultural e fitossanitário foram realizados de acordo com as recomendações para a cultura. O estande médio foi de 15 plantas por metro linear. O ensaio foi invertido aos 135 DAE. Foram avaliados severidade de mancha preta, massa de 100 grãos, rendimento e produtividade de vagens. Nas condições experimentais em que foi desenvolvida esta pesquisa, pode-se concluir que o genótipo BRS 421 OL obteve a maior massa de 100 grãos. Os maiores rendimentos foram obtidos nos genótipos 18-2136 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL, 17-1253 OL e 18-1952 OL. A severidade de mancha preta foi menor para os genótipos BRS 421 OL BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL. A produtividade de vagens não sofreu influência significativa dos diferentes genótipos de amendoim. No entanto, todos genótipos produziram acima de 4.600 kgha-1. Recomenda-se demais estudos para obtenção de uma possível recomendação agronômica dos genótipos mais adequados as condições de Sorriso-MT.

O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho agronômico de cinco cultivares de amendoim, na região da Alta Mogiana, munícipio de Jaboticabal, estado de São Paulo. O experimento foi realizado em campo, em área de rotação com cana-de-açúcar, no sítio Canadá localizado na rodovia SP-333, no ano agrícola 2019/20, com semeadura manual realizada no dia 19 de novembro de 2019. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os tratamentos foram cinco cultivares de amendoim, sendo: BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL, IAC OL 3 e IAC 503. Cada parcela experimental era composta por duas linhas de três metros de comprimento, espaçamento de 0,90 m, com intervalo de dois metros entre parcelas e a área útil para avaliação foi de 3,6 m2. O estande médio foi de 14 plantas m-1. Foram avaliadas a massa de 100 grãos (g) e a produtividade de vagens (kg ha-1 e sacas alqueire-1). Houve diferença significativa para as duas variáveis avaliadas. Nas condições experimentais concluiu-se que as cultivares BRS 421 OL, BRS 425 OL, BRS 423 OL e IAC OL 3 obtiveram produtividades acima de 6.500 kg ha-1 na região da Alta Mogiana.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os diferentes arranjos de semeadura e genótipos de amendoim nas condições de Campo Verde-MT. O experimento foi desenvolvido na área experimental do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de Mato Grosso – Campus São Vicente, Centro de Referência de Campo Verde, localizado no município de Campo Verde – MT, no ano agrícola 2020/21. A semeadura foi realizada de forma manual no dia 16 de novembro de 2020. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, em esquema fatorial 4 x 3, sendo 4 genótipos (BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL e 1952 OL) e 3 arranjos de semeadura (0,73 m x 0,17 m e 15 plantas.m-1; 0,70 m e 20 plantas.m-1; 0,90 m e 20 plantas.m-1). A colheita foi realizada aos 133 dias após o plantio (DAP), onde foram avaliados severidade de mancha preta (notas), massa de 100 grãos (g) e produtividade de vagens (kg.ha-1 e sacas.alqueire-1). Nas condições experimentais em que foi desenvolvida esta pesquisa, pode-se concluir que a os arranjos de semeadura não influenciam de forma significativa nas variáveis. No entanto, os genótipos influenciaram na severidade e produtividade, sobressaindo-se com o BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL. Sobretudo, mais estudos são recomendados para confirmação dos resultados obtidos.

The blades of a hydrokinetic turbine have a great impact on its performance due to they are the elements responsible for capturing the kinetic energy from water and transform it into rotational mechanical energy. In this work, numerical analyses on the performance of a multi-element blade section were developed. The lift and drag coefficients (CL and CD, respectively) of the hydrofoils with traditional and multi-element configurations were studied. For this purpose, 2D numerical analyses were conducted by using JavaFoil code. S805, S822, Eppler 420, Eppler 421, Eppler 422, Eppler 423, Eppler 857, Wortmann FX 74-CL5-140, Wortmann FX 74-CL5-140 MOD, Douglas/Liebeck LA203A, Selig S1210, Selig S1223 and UI-1720 profiles were tested. The results indicated that the Eppler 420 multi-element hydrofoil provided high efficiency to the turbine. This was attributed to its higher relationship between the maximum CL and CD (CLmax /CD), which was equal to 47.77, compared to that of the Selig S1223 profile (39.59) and other hydrofoils studied. Therefore, the final optimized blade section selected was an Eppler 420 multi-element hydrofoil with a flap chord length of 70% of that of the main profile. The hydrodynamic and structural designs of the optimized blade section were validated with detailed 3D numerical models, through ANSYs Fluent software. The fluid and structural domains were connected using one-way coupling. The influence of the blade geometry and the operational parameters on the stresses supported by the blades were found by analyzing the fluid-structure interaction. From the numerical analyses conducted, it was observed that the blades did not exhibit structural fails. In this regard, the multi-element hydrofoil might be used for the design of a horizontal-axis hydrokinetic turbine with a high efficiency.

Produtores do Mato Grosso tem demonstrado interesse no cultivo do amendoim, porém as informações geradas pela pesquisa ainda são insuficientes sobre épocas e cultivares. O objetivo deste estudo é determinar a melhor época de semeadura para 5 cultivares de amendoim nas condições de Sorriso-MT. O experimento foi conduzido em área experimental do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia – IFMT Campus Sorriso, localizado no município de Sorriso-MT. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, cada tratamento com 3 repetições, em esquema fatorial 5 x 5, sendo 5 épocas de semeadura (07/11/2019, 28/11/2019, 19/12/2019, 09/01/2020 e 30/01/2020) e 5 cultivares de amendoim (BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL, desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento do Amendoim da Embrapa e as cultivares EC 98 AO e Granoleico desenvolvidas pelo Criadero El Carmen da Argentina. As parcelas foram compostas por 4 linhas de 4 metros de comprimento e espaçamento de 0,90 m. Aos 135 dias após a emergência foram colhidas as plantas da área útil para determinação da produtividade de amendoim em vagens e a massa de 100 grãos. Nas condições experimentais em que foi desenvolvida esta pesquisa, pode-se concluir que a cultivar BRS 425 OL e Granoleico obtiveram as maiores produtividades na época de 07 de novembro, enquanto a EC 98 AO foi mais produtiva em 30 de janeiro em comparação às demais épocas de semeadura. As cultivares BRS 421 OL e BRS 423 OL não obtiveram diferença significativa quanto a produtividade nas diferentes épocas de semeadura, apresentando resultados similares em todas as épocas de semeadura, demonstrando possível adaptação às diferentes épocas. Portanto, ainda não é possível a definição da melhor época de semeadura para a região, sendo necessário pelo menos mais um ano de avaliação. A cultivar BRS 421 OL apresentou a maior massa de 100 grãos em todas as épocas de semeadura em que ela está presente, em comparação as demais cultivares. A semeadura na primeira época (07 de novembro), promoveu a maior massa de 100 grãos nas cultivares BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL. A cultivar EC 98 AO obteve as maiores massas quando semeada em 07 de novembro e 30 de janeiro. A cultivar Granoleico não obteve diferença significativa quanto a massa de 100 grãos nas diferentes épocas de semeadura.

Abstract In a previous study, we discovered a new mouse minor histocompatibility antigen encoded by a locus at 8.5 cM apart from the H-2 complex, and we have since named the locus H-42. One allele of H-42, which is named H-42a, had been elucidated, but the other alleles, which we tentatively named H-42b, have not been elucidated. In the present study, we explored MHC control on the anti-H-42a cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) responsiveness in H-42b mice. In vivo immunization (i.v. injection) of H-42b mice with 5 to 30 X 10(6) spleen cells (SC) bearing allogeneic H-42a antigen but carrying H-2 complex (mouse MHC) matched with the H-42b mice failed to prime anti-H-42a CTL but induced stable and specific anti-H-42a CTL unresponsiveness, i.e., tolerance, in the H-42b recipient mice. In contrast, H-2 heterozygous H-42b F1 mice injected with SC bearing H-42a alloantigen on either of the parental H-2 haplotypes were effectively primed to generate anti-H-42a CTL. Exploration of the region or subregion in the H-2 complex of H-42a donor SC that should be compatible with H-42b recipient mice for the induction of their anti-H-42a CTL tolerance demonstrated that the compatibility at I region, most probably I-A subregion, but not at K, S, or D region, determined the induction of the tolerance. MHC class II compatible H-42a skin graft (SG) to H-42b mice, however, consistently primed the anti-H-42a CTL in the H-42b recipients. These results were discussed in several aspects, including uniqueness of MHC class II control on the CTL response to minor H-42a antigen, possibility of inactivation of responding anti-H-42a precursor CTL or helper T cells in H-42b mice by encountering the veto cells present in MHC class II-matched H-42a SC population, and significance of the present observations as a mechanism of CTL tolerance to self-components.

Abstract When (B10.BR X CWB)F1 (BWF1; H-2k/b) mice carrying the H-42b allele at the minor H-42 locus were injected with H-42a C3H.SW (CSW; H-2b) or C3H (H-2k) spleen cells (SC), self-H-2Kb restricted anti-H-42a pCTL in the BWF1 recipients were primed and differentiated to anti-H-42a CTL after in vitro stimulation with (B10.BR X CSW)F1 (BSF1; H-2k/b, H-42b/a) SC. In contrast, anti-H-42a pCTL in H-42b mice were inactivated by injection with H-42-congenic H-42a SC, and stable anti-H-42a CTL tolerance was induced. Preference of H-2Kb restriction of anti-H-42a CTL was strict, and self-H-2Kb-restricted anti-H-42a CTL did not lyse target cells carrying H-42a antigen in the context of H-2Kbm1. Involvement of suppressor cells in the anti-H-42a CTL tolerance was ruled out by the present cell transfer study and the previous cell-mixing in vitro study. Notably, treatment with anti-Thy-1.2 antibody (Ab) plus complement (C) wiped out the ability of CSW SC in the priming of anti-H-42a pCTL of BWF1 mice but left that of C3H SC unaffected, and injection of the anti-Thy-1.2 Ab plus C-treated CSW SC induced anti-H-42a CTL tolerance in the BWF1 recipients. Furthermore, H-42a/b, I-Ab/bm12 [CSW X B6.CH-2bm12 (bm12)]F1 SC could not prime anti-H-42a pCTL in H-42b, I-Ab (CWB X B6)F1 recipients, whereas H-42a/b, I-Ab (CSW X B6)F1 SC primed anti-H-42a pCTL in H-42b, I-Ab/bm12 (CWB X bm12)F1 recipients. The unresponsiveness of anti-H-42a pCTL in H-42b mice to H-42-congenic H-42a SC was sometimes corrected by immunization of H-42b female mice with H-42-congenic H-42a male SC. Taking all of the results together, we propose the following. Unresponsiveness of anti-H-42a pCTL in H-42b mice to H-42-congenic H-42a SC is caused by "veto cells" contained in the antigenic H-42a SC. Anti-H-42a pCTL in the H-42b recipients directly interacting with H-42-congenic H-42a SC, which bear H-42a antigen and H-2Kb restriction element, are inactivated or vetoed.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS)

Estudos recentes com amendoim têm demonstrado boa adaptação ao cultivo e elevado potencial produtivo nas condições de Sorriso. Contudo, ainda se faz necessário mais estudos para definição da melhor época de semeadura tendo em vista as possíveis variações climáticas locais. O presente trabalho objetivou estudar a produção de cinco cultivares de amendoim submetidos a diferentes épocas de semeadura no município de Sorriso. O experimento foi conduzido em área experimental do Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia – IFMT Campus Sorriso, localizado no município de Sorriso-MT. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, cada tratamento com 4 repetições, em esquema fatorial 5x5, sendo 5 épocas de semeadura (07/11/2020, 28/11/2020, 19/12/2020, 09/01/2021 e 30/01/2021) e 5 cultivares (BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL, BRS 425 OL, EC 98 AO e Granoleico). As parcelas foram compostas por 4 linhas espaçadas 0,90 m entre elas com 4 m de comprimento, considerando-se 1 linha de cada extremidade como bordadura e 2 linhas centrais como área útil, desprezando-se 1,0 m de cada extremidade. A colheita foi realizada manualmente aos 142, 143, 143, 121 e 108 dias após o plantio, para cada época, respectivamente. As variáveis massa de 100 grãos, rendimento de grãos e produtividade de amendoim em vagens foram submetidos à análise de variância pelo teste F e as médias dos tratamentos foram agrupados pelo teste de Scott-Knott a 5% de probabilidade. Nas condições experimentais em que foi desenvolvida esta pesquisa, pode-se concluir que no ano agrícola de 2020/21 no município de Sorriso, as maiores produtividades do amendoim foram obtidas nas semeaduras de novembro e não houve diferença entre as cultivares em relação as épocas. A massa de 100 grãos diminuiu significativamente, para as cultivares BRS 421 OL e EC 98 AO quando se semeou a partir de 28 de novembro. A BRS 421 OL foi a cultivar que apresentou a maior massa de 100 grãos quando semeada ente 07 de novembro e 19 de dezembro. No rendimento de grãos a BRS 421 OL, BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL, resultaram nas maiores massas nas três primeiras épocas de semeadura.

Modern interpretation tends to take E. Med. 639, ‘driving from the senses over a second bed’ (θυμ⋯ν ⋯κπλήξασ' ⋯τέροις ⋯π⋯ λέκτροις), found within the petition of the chorus that ‘dread Cypris never…inflict angry arguments and insatiate quarrels’ (637–40a), as referring to a second bed that might allure these women themselves rather than one that might allure their husbands. None the less, the latter interpretation seems to be recommended by both the contents and the context of the line; it is also consistent with Euripidean idiom. As to the context, v. 639 is found in the second stasimon. An examination of the attitude of the chorus toward Medea up to this point may guide us towards a fuller understanding of the phrase.In her opening speech in the first episode (214ff.) Medea, who was betrayed by the husband for whom she left family and country (252ff.), persuades the already sympathetic chorus (136–8, 178f., 182) to side with her as underprivileged women in a world dominated by egocentric men (230ff.). In the first pair of strophes of the following stasimon (410–30) they accept Medea's division of human beings into ‘the female stock’ (419) and ‘the race of males’ (429) and sing of male perfidy and discrimination against women. They stress their own personal involvement by replacing ‘women’ with ‘I’ and ‘we’ in five of the seven references to the second sex (415 and 422 ‘my’, 423 and 430 ‘our’, 428 ‘I’).

Emanating from a cosmos ordered according to Pythagorean and Neoplatonic principles, the Boethian musica mundana is the type of music that ‘is discernible especially in those things which are observed in heaven itself or in the combination of elements or the diversity of seasons’. At the core of this recurring medieval topos stands ‘a fixed sequence of modulation [that] cannot be separated from this celestial revolution’, one most often rendered in medieval writings as the ‘music of the spheres’ (musica spherarum). In the Pythagorean and Neoplatonic cosmological traditions, long established by the time Boethius wrote his De institutione musica, the music of the spheres is just one possible manifestation of the concept of world harmony. It pertains to a universe in which musical and cosmic structures express the same mathematical ratios, each of the planets produces a distinctive sound in its revolution and the combination of these sounds themselves most often forms a well-defined musical scale. Although the Neoplatonic world harmony continued to function in medieval cosmology as the fundamental conceptual premise, the notion of the music of the spheres, despite its popularity among medieval writers, was generally treated neither at any significant length nor in an innovative fashion. Quite exceptional in this respect is the treatise that forms the subject of the present study, a text beginning Desiderio tuo fili carissime gratuito condescenderem and attributed to an anonymous bishop in the late thirteenth-century manuscript miscellany now in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana (Barb. lat. 283, fols. 37r-42v) but probably coming from a Franciscan convent in Siena. This seldom considered work affords a remarkable and special insight into the ways in which old and new ideas converged, intermingled and coexisted in the dynamic and sometimes volatile cross-currents of medieval scholarship.

Dairy products are rich sources of an array of fatty acids (FA) that have been shown individually and in certain clusters to exert varying effects on cardiovascular health, for which the circulating lipid profile is a powerful biomarker. Whether the profile of these FA is reflected in blood upon short terms of intake, possibly contributing to the lipid-related health impacts of dairy products, remains to be fully established. The objectives of the present study were to assess a recommended dairy product consumption in relation to circulating FA and lipid profiles, and to evaluate certain FA in dairy fat as potential biomarkers of intake. In a free-living, multi-centre, cross-over design, 124 healthy individuals consumed 3 servings/d of commercial dairy (DAIRY; 1 % fat milk, 1·5 % fat yogurt and 34 % fat cheese) or energy-equivalent control (CONTROL; fruit and vegetable juice, cashews and a cookie) products for 4 weeks each, separated by a 4-week washout period. Plasma FA and serum lipid profiles were assessed by standard methods at the end of each dietary phase. After 4 weeks of intake, plasma levels of FA pentadecanoic acid (15 : 0) and heptadecanoic acid (17 : 0) were higher (0·26v.0·22 % and 0·42v.0·39 % of the total identified FA, respectively) after the DAIRY phase than after the CONTROL phase (P< 0·0001). This was accompanied by a small but significant increase in serum LDL-cholesterol levels after the DAIRY phase compared with the CONTROL phase (+0·08 mmol/l;P= 0·04). In conclusion, intake of 3 servings/d of conventional dairy products may modify certain circulating FA and lipid profiles within 4 weeks, where 15 : 0 and 17 : 0 may be potential short-term biomarkers of intake.

Para o amendoim, embora existam esforços que abordam a caracterização da arquitetura e robustez do seu sistema radicular, a maioria destas abordagens estão na dependência de procedimentos destrutivos e altamente demandantes em mão de obra. Neste sentido, nesta primeira etapa do estudo, se propôs demonstrar a praticidade, precisão e possibilidade de caracterização não destrutiva em raízes de amendoim. Foram avaliados o diâmetro médio, área superficial específica, comprimento e volume das raízes de três cultivares e seis linhagens desenvolvidas pelo Programa de Melhoramento do Amendoim da Embrapa, além da cultivar Granoleico. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam que a cultivar BRS 421 OL, apresentou o melhor equilíbrio entre, diâmetro médio, comprimento total e volume de raízes, se comparado à média dos demais genótipos analisados (37% e 200% superior à média dos demais genótipos avaliados, para volume total e comprimento total de raízes, respectivamente). Evidenciou, nesta cultivar, uma maior densidade de raízes secundárias e terciárias (mais finas) no terço inferior do seu sistema radicular. As cultivares BRS 423 OL e BRS 425 OL e a linhagem 18-2133 OL se destacaram em relação à média e requerem uma caracterização adicional. Devido ao seu desempenho superior para as variáveis morfométricas avaliadas, os genótipos BRS 421 OL, a BRS 425 OL e a linhagem 18-2133 OL já se encontram sendo cultivados sob condições de campo (safra 2019/2020), onde tais variáveis serão mensuradas objetivando confirmar seus desempenhos inicialmente superior.

ABSTRACT The human cytomegalovirus major immediate-early (α) protein IE1491aa plays an important role in controlling viral gene expression at low multiplicities of infection. With a transient complementation assay, full-length IE1491aa enhanced the growth of ie1 mutant virus CR208 20-fold better than a deletion mutant lacking 71 carboxyl-terminal amino acids (IE11-420aa). A 16-amino-acid domain between amino acids 476 and 491 was both necessary and sufficient for chromatin-tethering activity; however, this domain was completely dispensable for complementation of CR208 replication. The proximal 55-amino-acid acidic domain (amino acids 421 to 475) was found to be most important for function. A deletion mutant lacking only this domain retained chromatin-tethering activity but failed to complement mutant virus. Interestingly, serine phosphorylation (at amino acids 399, 402, 406, 423, 428, 431, 448, 451, and 455) was not required for complementation. These results show that IE1491aa is composed of at least two domains that support replication, a region located between amino acids 1 and 399 that complements ie1 mutant virus replication to low levels and an acidic domain between amino acids 421 and 479 that dramatically enhances complementation.

This study examined Marcia’s identity paradigm among Lebanese adolescents in relation to gender and academic achievement. Participants were 429 students in Grades 7 to 11, aged 12 to 17 years. The Ego Identity Process Questionnaire (EIPQ) was used to classify participants into the four identity statuses: Achievement, Moratorium, Foreclosure, and Diffusion. Results showed that females were mostly in Moratorium (37.4%) whereas males in Foreclosure (35.1%). The difference was statistically significant, χ2(3) = 20.40, p = .001. Also, females scored significantly higher on the Exploration subscale, t(425) = −2.68, p = .04, whereas males scored significantly higher on the Commitment subscale, t(426) = 4.19, p = .01. No significant achievement differences were found among students in the four identity statuses, F(3, 419) = .38, p = .13. These results suggest possible shifts in cultural norms with females developing identity through pathways believed to be males’ in traditional societies.

Cytosolic free Ca2+ concentration is a key factor in pulmonary vasoconstriction and vascular remodeling of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). These processes contribute to pulmonary arterial hypertension and are influenced by expression of calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR). Although regulation of CaSR expression is precisely controlled, the contribution of microRNAs (miR) is incompletely understood. Here, we demonstrate that miR-429, miR-424-5p, miR-200b-3p, and miR-200c-3p regulate CaSR by targeting specific 3′-untranslated region, suggesting that these miRNAs function as CaSR inhibitors in PASMCs. Moreover, miR-429 and miR-424-5p inhibit proliferation of PASMCs by downregulating CaSR, resulting in reduced Ca2+ influx under both normoxia and hypoxia. These findings indicate miR-429 and miR-424-5p target CaSR and may function as Ca2+ influx suppressors in pulmonary arterial hypertension-associated diseases.

Abstract Objective Attentional difficulties are known to negatively impact learning (Hervey et al., 2004; Alderson et al., 2013). This study builds upon previous work examining the effect of sustained visual attention as a moderator of age and learning (Thomas et al., 2019) by examining performance on an auditory attention measure as a moderator of the relationship between age and performance on a verbal list-learning task. Method Archival data from 424 adults (Mage = 36.01, SD = 15.13) were collected at an outpatient clinic. Auditory attention was assessed via the Brief Test of Attention (BTA) raw score. Learning was assessed via the California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT-II) total T-Score (Trials 1–5). Results Results of a hierarchical linear regression indicated a significant effect between BTA and learning, (β = 0.287, F(1, 422) = 17.993, p &lt; 0.001, ΔR2 = 0.078). There was no significant effect between age and learning, (β = 0.022, F(1, 422) = 0.204, p = 0.652, ΔR2 = 0.000). Additional results from a simple moderated regression analysis indicated a significant overall model between age, learning and BTA (F(3, 420) = 15.749, p &lt; 0.001, ΔR2 = 0.1011) with BTA having a significant positive interaction effect on the relation between age and learning (β = 0.816, F(1, 420) = 10.436, p = &lt; 0.001, ΔR2 = 0.022). Conclusion Sustained attention has been shown to be an important consideration when assessing verbal learning and memory performance. Present results demonstrate that when accounting for age, auditory attention is a significant positive predictor of performance on measures of verbal learning. Additionally, confirming prior research, performances on auditory attention and verbal learning measures are positively correlated.
