Рассмотрены вопросы оптимального уровня продуктивности коров черно-пестрой породы при сохранении продуктивного долголетия: раздой животных по 1 лактации, корреляция удоев за 1—8 лактации, влияние отцов и матерей на долголетие коров, потенциал молочной продуктивности матерей быков-производителей. Коровы с более высоким удоем за 1 лактацию имели лучшие удои за 3 и наивысшую лактации. С увеличением продуктивности за 1 лактацию свыше 7000 кг молока число лактаций снижается. Более выравненной продуктивностью за все лактации отличались коровы с удоем от 4000 кг до 7000 кг. Положительное влияние на раздой и пожизненную продуктивность дочерей имела продуктивность матерей. Наиболее высоким уровнем реализации потенциала продуктивности отличались особи с удоем матерей от 4000 кг до 6000 кг за лактацию. Положительная взаимосвязь удоя за лактацию установлена с родительским индексом коровы (0,251) и удоем за 305 дней наивысшей лактации матерей (0,251) и матерей отцов (0,254). Увеличение продуктивности матерей отцов за 305 дней наивысшей лактации способствует росту удоя за наивысшую лактацию дочерей. При этом дочери превосходят матерей по удою за наивысшую лактацию от 291 до 895 кг в среднем на 1 голову в зависимости от класса продуктивности матерей отцов. The research paper covers issues on the optimal milk performance in cows provided the retention of the production longevity: milk yield in cows per lactation, milk yield correlation for 1 to 8 lactation cycles; the influence of genetic aspects on cow longevity; milk performance in female cows being mothers of male cows. Cows with a higher milk yield per lactation showed a better milk yield per 3 and the highest lactation. When the milk performance per lactation increased 7000 kg, the number of lactation cycles decreases. The most uniform milk performance throughout lactation cycles was shown by cows yielding 4000 to 7000 kg of milk. Milk performance of daughter cows depended on that of their mothers. The highest level of milk performance potential implementation was shown by specimens born by mothers yielding 4000 to 6000 kg per lactation. Positive interrelation of milk yield per lactation with the parent index of cows (0.251) and the milk yield for 305 days of the highest lactation of mother cows (0.251) and mothers of father cows (0.254). An increase in milk performance in mothers of father cows for 305 days of the highest lactation contributes to an increase in milk yield for the highest lactation of daughter cows. At that, daughter cows yield 291 to 895 kg more milk per cow than their mothers for the highest lactation, depending on the milk performance class of mothers of father cows.

Background:Iguratimod (IGU) has demonstrated efficacy and safety for active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients in double-blind clinical trials in China and Japan as a new disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD). There are no studies evaluating the radiographic progression of structural joint damage of IGU for the treatment of RA using the mTSS as the primary endpoint.Objectives:Our study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of IGU monotherapy and IGU combined methotrexate (MTX) compared with MTX monotherapy, including the inhibitory effects of joint destruction.Methods:This randomized, double-blind, parallel-controlled, multicenter study in patients with active RA who have not previously used MTX and biological DMARDs (bDMARDs) (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT01548001) was carried out in China. Patients were randomized 1:1:1 to receive IGU 25 mg twice a day (bid), MTX 10mg once a week(qw) for the first 4 weeks and 15 mg once a week(qw) for week 5 to 52, or IGU combined MTX (IGU+MTX) for 52 weeks. The primary endpoints were to assess and compare American College of Rheumatology 20% (ACR20) response and the change of modified total Sharp scoring (mTSS) score over 52 weeks (Intention-to-treat, ITT analysis). The non-inferiority test was used to analyze the difference of ACR20 response at 52 weeks between the IGU monotherapy and the MTX monotherapy arms, and the non-inferiority limit value was 10%. The difference test was used for the comparison between the IGU+MTX and MTX monotherapy arms. Two-way ANOVA was used to analyze the difference of the changes of mTSS score of each arm compared with baseline value (0 week).Results:A total of 895 patients were randomized to IGU 25mg bid (n =297), MTX 10-15mg qw(n=293), and IGU+MTX (n=305). More concretely, IGU monotherapy and IGU+MTX were found to be superior to MTX at week 52 with a higher ACR20 response of 77.44%(230/297, P=0.0019) and 77.05%(235/305, P=0.0028) versus 65.87%(193/293) (fig 1). As shown in fig 1, the structural remission (ΔmTSS≤0.5) was statistically significant for IGU monotherapy (57.4%, P=0.0308) but not for IGU+MTX arm (55%) versus MTX monotherapy (47.8%).Overall incidence of the adverse events (AEs) leading to study discontinuation were reported in 13.8% (41/297) in IGU monotherapy arm, 11.26% (33/293) in MTX monotherapy arm and 11.51% (35/305) patients in IGU+MTX arm. The incidence of adverse drug reactions (ADR) leading to study discontinuation were 11.45% (34/297), 8.53% (25/293) and 9.21% (28/305), respectively. There was no one death and no significant difference in all the safety indicators among the three arms.Conclusion:Iguratimod alone or in combination with MTX demonstrated superior efficacy with acceptable safety compared to MTX for patients with active RA who have not previously used MTX bDMARDs.Disclosure of Interests:None declared

BackgroundLower back pain (LBP) and osteoarthritis (OA) are the most frequent musculoskeletal disorders in the general population significantly impacting patients’ quality of life. An adequate pain management is key. General practitioners (GPs) are the front-line decision-makers in the French primary care system. In France, paracetamol remains a first-line analgesic in LBP and OA, according to the national guidelines. Few data on the real-world paracetamol prescriptions in LBP and OA are available.ObjectivesThis observational retrospective cohort study aimed to identify the paracetamol prescription patterns in LBP- and OA-related pain in real-world GP practice.MethodsPrescription data from IQVIA’s French EMR database with a representative panel of approximately 1,200 GPs. Data collection was systematic, non-interventional, reflecting the daily clinical practice. Patients aged more than 18 years old presenting with LBP- and OA- related pain and receiving a paracetamol prescription during a GP consultation over a 10-month period were included in the analyses.ResultsA total of 18,677 LBP and 8,882 OA patients were included. In more than 90% of these patients, the paracetamol prescriptions were not preceded by any other analgesic for the same diagnosis within the previous month. Paracetamol was mainly prescribed alone (57% LBP, 78% OA). The most frequent associations were NSAIDs and grade II analgesics. Treatment discontinuation at Month 1 was the most frequent event (67% LBP and 52% OA). In case of treatment restart, paracetamol was prescribed again in 57% LBP and 81% OA patients. At Month 3, 78% LBP and 71% OA patients discontinued treatment.ConclusionParacetamol remains a pivotal analgesic and is prescribed first line in the majority of the patients in both indications. Анотація:
`German Red' is a thermotolerant cultivar of carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) that blooms almost year-round in Texas. This study was initiated to evaluate the feasibility of inducing somatic embryos for use in gene transfer Studies and rapid mass propagation. Internodal explants, obtained from microshoots of plantlets cultured on MS medium containing 5 μM benzyladenine (BA) and 0.5 μM naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA), were used to initiate callus. Callus formation was induced on MS medium containing 3% sucrose, 0.1% casein hydrolysate and 2,4-D (1-5 μM) alone or in combination with BA (2 or 4 μM) or kinetin (2 or 4 μM). After about 5 weeks, the callus was transferred to either semisolid or liquid MS basal medium with or without kinetin and BA. Within 20-30 days, pro-embryogenic callus masses were observed. The embryos developed from white embryonic tissue and exhibited typical stages of embryogenesis. After 5 weeks, up to 70% of the cultures grown in the liquid medium with or without BA exhibited a profusion of embryo-like structures. Because only a small percentage of these developed into plantlets, more work is needed to enhance conversion frequency.

MoS2 nanoclusters/graphene composite (MoS2/GNs) was prepared by one-step hydrothermal strategy in which MoS2 nanoclusters were enwrapped by graphene nanosheets. MoS2/GNs electrode delivered discharge/charge capacities of 890 and 885 mA · h/g at 0.2 °C (200 mA g–1) after 300 cycles, as rechargeable Li ion batteries (LIBs) anode material, corresponding to a reversible charge capacity retention of up to 73.0%. When the current was adjusted to 5 C (5000 mA g–1), the material could still deliver discharge/charge capacities of 612 and 591 mA · h/g. The synergistic effects between MoS2 and graphene contributed to excellent electrochemical performance, which efficiently improved its electrical conductivity, and concurrently inhibited volume change of the MoS2 in the electrode.

Diese Studie setzt sich mit Berufsbiografien von Personalentwickler(inne)n auseinander, einer Thematik, die bis dato empirisch kaum untersucht worden ist. Mit qualitativen (narrativen) Interviews werden Erkenntnisse sowohl über Aspekte der beruflichen Tätigkeit als auch über berufsbiografische (Orientierungs-) Muster gewonnen. Thematisiert werden genauso Auffassungen über die Kernaufgaben in der Personalentwicklung bzw. Rollentypologien, wie Phasen des Berufsverlaufs, berufliche Krisen oder die Bedeutung von "Mentoring". Für den Erkenntnisgewinn wurden die Interviewdaten inhaltsanalytisch und computerunterstützt ausgewertet (KUCKARTZ), indem Kategoriensysteme entwickelt wurden. Ausgewählte Fälle wurden darüber hinaus hermeneutisch interpretiert, einerseits nach der Text- und thematischen Feldanalyse (FISCHER-ROSENTHAL und ROSENTHAL) und andererseits nach der strukturalen Sinnrekonstruktion (BUDE), um Erkenntnisse über Selbstdarstellungen bzw. Lebenskonstruktionen zu erlangen. Insgesamt handelt es sich aufgrund der umfangreichen Erhebungen und Auswertungen um eine für Bereiche der Personalwirtschaft und Berufspädagogik wahrscheinlich interessante Studie, wenngleich Kritikpunkte an jenen Teilen angebracht sind, die einer strukturrekonstruierenden Biografieforschung folgen.

Анотація:
The results of the study showed that among women attending the antenatal clinic “Borisov Central District Hospital”, urinary tract infections (26.9-32.3%) are the most frequently recorded . Anemia (16.3-18.2%) and venous complications (8.5-14.1%) are often recorded. Least of all of the considered complications in the third trimester is diabetes mellitus (5.2-5.4%). Bleeding in the follow-up and postpartum period for 2016-20 was 11.7% of cases. As a result of the analysis of the dynamics of the health status of women registered with the dispensary in the residential complex “Borisovskaya CRH” for the period from 2016-20, it was found that the dynamics of complications during pregnancy and the postpartum period is characterized by a pronounced steady downward trend (R2> 0.7).

Unexpectedly high concentrations of NO2 have been noted in stack emissions from industrial combustors. NO2 formation has been reported to occur through the so called “HO2 mechanism” in which NO combines with HO2 to produce NO2 and OH. In this study, the formation of NO2 was investigated at super-atmospheric pressures through experiments and computer modeling. Computer modeling utilized the CHEMKIN chemical kinetics program and a subset of a previously published C-H-O-N system mechanism. Experimental work was conducted using a high pressure flow reactor designed and built in the course of the study. The effects of pressure, temperature, and the presence of a NO2 promoting hydrocarbon, methane, were investigated. It was discovered that as pressure increased from 1 atm. to 8.5 atm., the rate and amount of NO converted to NO2 also increased. The results also show a temperature “window” between approximately 800 K and 1000 K in which NO to NO2 conversion readily occurred. The presence of methane was seen to enhance NO conversion to NO2, and a ratio of [CH4]/[NO] was found to be a useful parameter in predicting NO2 formation. Significant NO conversion to NO2 was noted for [CH4]/[NO]>1 at the hydrocarbon injection point. Experimental results validated those trends obtained from modeling with a modified C-H-O-N mechanism.

Introdução: Os métodos ensinados no Componente Curricular, Educação Física, consisti elaborar cada vez mais pesquisas educacionais, identificando no contexto geral, origens, bem como importâncias desses estudos a sociedade, contribuindo com aspectos essenciais que tange a ótica da aprendizagem significativa, em virtude das aulas não presenciais, colocando práticas metodologias ativas originando propostas e abordagens embasadas nos PCN+, ratificadas nos fundamentos da LDB nº 9394/96, paralelo às procedências da regulamentação da BNCC. Objetivo: Este trabalho tem ênfase no acompanhamento e correções de cadernos, proveniente de atividades orientadas pelo professor, em tempos da pandemia COVID – 19 especifica na Educação Física. Material e métodos: A sistematização proposta deu-se em etapas distintas. Primeiramente, desenvolveu-se levantamento entre professores lotados na escola, constatando quantitativamente cadernos, a ser corrigidos pelos profissionais. Simultâneo ao suporte pedagógico, as turmas foram comunicadas em textos, em grupos Whatsapp, intermediados por professores monitores, quais notificaram alunos e responsáveis, firmando entrega dos cadernos, para correções das atividades, encaminhadas no ensino remoto, e, executar assim, pontuações aos alunos, suprindo lacunas de notas do 2º/3º bimestre. Consoante, foi marcado data/hora, atendendo protocolo estabelecido pela equipe diretiva aos responsáveis, respeitando, contudo, orientações das normas da saúde. Na terceira etapa, em salas divididas, no período de 10/06/2020, professores realizaram as correções dos cadernos, registrando quantitativos de alunos participantes especificamente alunado da 3º série. Resultados: Como êxito, destacam-se no contexto da abordagem quantitativa, 32 cadernos corrigidos na turma 3º-1, 31/3º-2, 34/3º-3, 34/3º-4, 30/3º-5, 29/3º-6, 30/3º-7, e 36/3º-8. Entretanto, correspondem 256 alunos remotos ativos, embora 46 ausências, de 302 alunos matriculados no componente, justificadas, à falta de internet, contribuído a crise estabelecida na sociedade amazonense, com perdas familiares de alunos. Conclusão: Portanto o professor regente quando proporciona significativas evoluções no contexto da aprendizagem, consegue efetivar a diferença no seu comprometimento profissional, alcançando assim, as metas, e objetivos embasados na BNCC.

Abstract This paper presents the success story of an exploration well in Malaysia which exemplary applied a breakthrough integration of 3-1/2″ tubing in 8-1/2″ hole cemented monobore utilizing a new well testing concept of Tubing Stem Test (TST) to save cost and rig time. The Tubing Stem Test (TST) concept which is the new approach of testing a well that integrates both completion and well test technology into a single system compared to conventional Drill Stem Test (DST). The cemented monobore technology was successfully implemented by smooth and flawless planning and execution. A comprehensive planning and collaboration of multiple disciplines in Wells and Subsurface team had ensured a successful delivery of the first Tubing Stem Test (TST) with 3-1/2″ Tubing Cemented Monobore in a near-field exploration well targeting marginal reservoir in Malaysia. During planning stage, the challenges were to ensure that the cementing design concept suits TST application to be executed smoothly by incorporating multiple of risk assessments, lessons learnt, best practices review, feasibility studies and multiple design challenge sessions. This is to ensure that the well integrity is not jeopardized by achieving good cement bond across 3.5″ × 8.5″ annulus section with exclusion of WAB (Welltec Annular Barrier) packer. During execution stage, main concern in cementing operation pushed project team to re-design the fit-for-purpose cementing slurry and multiple cement tests were performed to ensure cementing objectives were achieved. Project team optimized the design by using G Cement Silica blend which has been proven to eliminate fluid migration and provide good compressive strength (UCS). This has allowed additional perforation zone for the new target as CBL/VDL shown good cement bonding to targeted top of cement. Some of the good practices includes good tubing standoff, efficient pre-flush, spacer & cement slurry design with fast compressive strength development, good displacement efficiency and effective plug bump strategy. The thought process, design requirement both for the hardware and cement slurry, and execution follow through of cemented monobore operation in driving for cost savings and operational efficiency will be elaborated. This collaborative initiative has resulted significant cost savings by eliminating cost of wellbore clean-up (WBCU), eliminate 7″ Casing or Liner for reservoir section, DST package, DST tubing rental, simpler completion accessories and 5 days of rig operation days. Despite facing with challenging cement issue with challenging cement batch used, well has achieved good CBL/VDL result and 100% zonal isolation which has enabled perforation of planned and additional target hydrocarbon zones. Simultaneously, formation damage risk was reduced by eliminating the time the formation is exposed to overbalance brine This paper presents the planning and operational execution of 3-1/2″ Tubing in 8-1/2″ Hole Cemented Monobore to realize the feasibility of Tubing Stem Test (TST) as new approach of well testing operation to save cost and rig time.

Анотація:
Optoelectronic sampling based on the Pockels' effect1 has become an important technique for the measurement of electrical signals with the highest time resolution, currently at 300 fs. We present first results obtained using a new technique for femtosecond electrical pulse measurement: excitonic electroabsorption sampling (EES). We have previously shown that excitons exhibit a femtosecond electroabsorption response, however the device which was used did not facilitate propagation studies over macroscopic distances2. In our new embodiment, a coplanar stripline is fabricated on a GaAs multiple quantum well mesa ridge structure (Fig. 1). We thus obtain optical modulation by parallel-field electroabsorption, which is due to lifetime broadening by field ionization of the excitons3. The detection sensitivity is about 1%/volt in a 10 micron structure. We etch the GaAs substrate down to a 1 micron AlGaAs stop-etch layer in a 1×2 mm area and leave the stripline free-standing on the 1 micron thick film, thus obtaining an extremely low dispersion structure to test the EES concept. We use an infrared dye laser which produces femtosecond pulses at a wavelength of 805 nm4 at 82 MHZ repetition rate. The exciton energy is temperature-tuned to the laser with a Peletier device, in this case operating at about 5 degrees above ambient temperature. At 300 fs pulsewidth the laser spectrum is already comparable to the exciton linewidth, and we expect that shorter pulses will provide reduced sensitivity relative to the DC response. We expect that time resolution of 100 fs or less may be possible with this technique. We note that electroabsorption is a purely electronic phenomenon, with no ionic lattice contribution such as that of LiTaO3.

The experiments were performed at SBR-50 supersonic combustion facility at variable conditions: pressure P0 = 1 4 bar; temperature T0 = 300 750 K; and fuel mass §ow rate ‘m = 1 8.5 g/s. Diagnostics included pressure measurements, ¦ltered fast camera imaging, schlieren visualization, and spectroscopic observations. The dynamic instability develops with a characteristic time of about 10 ms and is related to the interaction of the combustion-based separation zone with the re§ected shock wave and electric discharge. It is shown that this instability could be e¨ectively controlled by electrical discharge power. The thermoacoustic instability is developed with a characteristic time < 1 ms. The analysis of pressure data reveals a resonant acoustic wave presence in the combustion zone between fuel injection ports and the test section di¨user.

Abstract Using proprietary epoxies, new formulations have been developed for use in microelectronic packaging applications. The key features of these formulations are short cure cycle, long term stability at 25° C, very low cure volatile, low moisture absorption, low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE), excellent adhesion to various substrates. The CTE does not change appreciably with temperature between 0–200°C. This unique behavior is attributed to the interpenetrating network-like (IPN) structure of the base resins in the cured state. Further evidence of the IPN structure is the broad loss modulus and tan 6, observed between −150°C and −150°C, in dynamic mechanical tests. The extensive curing reaction in these catalyst-cured systems results in a highly crosslinked polymer network with good moisture resistance (&lt; 0.2°o after 14 days in 85°C/85% RH) and thermal stability (&lt; 0.3 wt % at 300°C of the cured material). Under 85/85 conditions, no appreciable changes in modulus was observed. Extent of cure studies in a dynamic scanning calorimeter (DSC) show a complete cure with no postcure requirements. Cure cycles for these formulations range from 1 hour at 140°C to about 1 minute @170°C. Currently, cure stresses, fracture toughness (bulk and interfacial), and various reliability tests are being performed to characterize the underfill, glob top encapsulants, and die-attach adhesives.

The optical properties of high Tc films, crystals, and bulk samples have been studied between 15 and 300 K, over the 50-40,000-cm−1 (6-meV-5-eV) range. The normal state spectra have a low frequency Drude contribution and a strong midinfrared absorption; Drude parameters correspond to the clean limit (1/τ < 2Δ or l >ξ). Below Tc the reflectance of high quality (Tc~ 88 K and ΔTc, ≈ 0.5 K) YBa2Cu3O7 films prepared by laser deposition is 100% ± 1% below 150 cm−1. There is an onset of absorption at 150 cm-1 and structure in the 450-500-cm−1 region. These, however, are not the superconducting energy gap because they (1) are present above Tc (2), do not shift when Tc decreases due to oxygen deficiency, and (3) occur at a substantially higher energy in Tc ≈ 85 K Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 crystals. Instead, they are temperature independent midinfrared excitations. The superconducting gap may (perhaps) be inferred (with rather wide bounds) from the temperature dependence of certain infrared vibrational features, which narrow below Tc.

This study conducted small-scale trials under various concentration and exposure time (CET) scenarios to determine florpyrauxifen-benzyl activity on dioecious hydrilla and hybrid watermilfoil and determine impact on water stargrass and elodea. Hydrilla treated with 12, 24, or 36 μg active ingredient (a.i.) L⁻¹ florpyrauxifen-benzyl and exposed for 12, 24, or 48 hr under outdoor mesocosm conditions was reduced in biomass by 30-75% at 8 weeks after treatment (WAT). An additional hydrilla trial at the same herbicide concentrations, but under longer exposures (24, 72, or 168 hr), resulted in 33–85% plant control. Under indoor conditions, hybrid watermilfoil dry weight decreased 98–100% with subsurface applications of florpyrauxifen-benzyl under CET scenarios of 3–12 μg a.i. L⁻¹ at 3–24 hr exposure times in a growth chamber trial. Under shorter exposure periods (0.5–4 hr) in a follow-up trial, low doses (3–9 μg a.i. L⁻¹) achieved 50–100% control of hybrid watermilfoil. In the same trial, the nontarget species water stargrass and elodea proved relatively tolerant to the florpyrauxifen-benzyl at doses up to 6 μg a.i. L⁻¹ (4 hr exposure) and 9 μg a.i. L⁻¹ (1 hr exposure). These small-scale trials demonstrate florpyrauxifen-benzyl’s potential to selectively manage invasive species.

The Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve vegetation mapping project is part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP). It is a cooperative effort between the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD), the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the National Park Service’s (NPS) Vegetation Mapping Inventory Program (VMI). The goal of this project is to produce a spatially and thematically accurate vegetation map of Everglades National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve prior to the completion of restoration efforts associated with CERP. This spatial product will serve as a record of baseline vegetation conditions for the purpose of: (1) documenting changes to the spatial extent, pattern, and proportion of plant communities within these two federally-managed units as they respond to hydrologic modifications resulting from the implementation of the CERP; and (2) providing vegetation and land-cover information to NPS park managers and scientists for use in park management, resource management, research, and monitoring. This mapping project covers an area of approximately 7,400 square kilometers (1.84 million acres [ac]) and consists of seven mapping regions: four regions in Everglades National Park, Regions 1–4, and three in Big Cypress National Preserve, Regions 5–7. The report focuses on the mapping effort associated with the Northwest Coastal Everglades (NWCE), Region 4 , in Everglades National Park. The NWCE encompasses a total area of 1,278 square kilometers (493.7 square miles [sq mi], or 315,955 ac) and is geographically located to the south of Big Cypress National Preserve, west of Shark River Slough (Region 1), and north of the Southwest Coastal Everglades (Region 3). Photo-interpretation was performed by superimposing a 50 × 50-meter (164 × 164-feet [ft] or 0.25 hectare [0.61 ac]) grid cell vector matrix over stereoscopic, 30 centimeters (11.8 inches) spatial resolution, color-infrared aerial imagery on a digital photogrammetric workstation. Photo-interpreters identified the dominant community in each cell by applying majority-rule algorithms, recognizing community-specific spectral signatures, and referencing an extensive ground-truth database. The dominant vegetation community within each grid cell was classified using a hierarchical classification system developed specifically for this project. Additionally, photo-interpreters categorized the absolute cover of cattail (Typha sp.) and any invasive species detected as either: Sparse (10–49%), Dominant (50–89%), or Monotypic (90–100%). A total of 178 thematic classes were used to map the NWCE. The most common vegetation classes are Mixed Mangrove Forest-Mixed and Transitional Bayhead Shrubland. These two communities accounted for about 10%, each, of the mapping area. Other notable classes include Short Sawgrass Marsh-Dense (8.1% of the map area), Mixed Graminoid Freshwater Marsh (4.7% of the map area), and Black Mangrove Forest (4.5% of the map area). The NWCE vegetation map has a thematic class accuracy of 88.4% with a lower 90th Percentile Confidence Interval of 84.5%.

In this study, we examine potential temporal changes in coda Q values for two significant Canadian earthquakes in different tectonic environments: the 2017 (Mw 5.9) Barrow Strait earthquake along Canada's northern margin and the 2012 (Mw 7.8) Haida Gwaii subduction earthquake on Canada's west coast. Waveforms from 124 earthquakes (2.0 &amp;lt;/= M &amp;lt;/= 4.6) for ~30 years prior to the January 8, 2017 Barrow Strait earthquake and 66 events (mainly aftershocks of M 2.0-5.3) in about 4 years after the mainshock recorded by the closest seismic station (RES) of the Canadian National Seismograph Network (CNSN) were utilized in this study. Based on our analysis, overall average of Q0 (Q at 1 Hz) decreased from 92 (before the mainshock) to 81. The most significant decrease in the frequency range between 2 and 16 Hz is observed for areas corresponding to ellipse parameter a2 of 50, 70 and 80 mainly related to aftershock activity. Precursory Q changes could not be evaluated before the mainshock due to the lack of reported seismicity within 100 km of the recording seismic station for almost 2 years from April 2015 to January 2017. Coda Q values before and after the October 28, 2012 Haida Gwaii earthquake in British Columbia show a similar pattern. Waveforms from 249 earthquakes (2.0 &amp;lt;/= M &amp;lt;/= 4.9) in 2 years before the mainshock and 498 events (2.5 &amp;lt;/= M &amp;lt;/= 6.3) in 2 years after the mainshock recorded by the three closest seismic stations of the CNSN were utilized. Overall average of Q0 decreased from 89 (before the mainshock) to 69 (station BNB), from 90 to 79 (station DIB) and from 86 to 78 (station VIB). In general, these results are in agreement with other global studies that show a decrease in Q0 following a major earthquake, likely the result of increased fracturing and fluids in the epicentral region.

We investigate seismic attenuation characteristics of the Lower St. Lawrence seismic zone in southeastern Quebec. This zone is located ~400 km downstream from Quebec City and is between the Quebec North Shore and the Lower St. Lawrence. We used earthquake recordings from 5 broadband and 5 short period seismograph stations of the Canadian National Seismic Network (CNSN) across the region. Our dataset is comprised of 847 earthquakes recorded between 1985 and 2022 with magnitudes ranging from 2.0 to 5.1, depths from 0 to 30 km and epicentral distances of 5 to 100 km. This gives a total of 446 high signal-to-noise (S/N) traces (S/N?5.0) useful for QC calculation (with a maximum ellipse parameter, a2, of 100) across the region. Coda windows were selected to start at tc = 2tS (two times the travel time of the direct S wave), and were filtered at center frequencies of 2, 4, 8, 12 and 16 Hz. Our study reveals a consistent pattern. We find that the lowest overall average of Q0 (Q at 1 Hz) values are at the three stations (GSQ, ICQ and SMQ) within 100 km of a moderate earthquake of mN 5.1 in 1999 (e.g., Q0 of 81, 88 and 80, respectively). We determined temporal variations in attenuation following the 1999 earthquake. The overall average of Q0 decreased from 87 (before the mainshock) to 77 (GSQ, D=96 km), from 92 to 85 (ICQ, D=69 km) and from 88 to 82 (SMQ, D=73 km). These results are in agreement with global studies that show a decrease in Q0 following a significant earthquake, (e.g., M &amp;gt; 5) likely the result of increased fracturing and fluids in the epicentral region. An average for all the data results in a Q relationship of QC = 86f1.07 for the frequency band of 2 to 16 Hz for the entire region.

This project was based on the hypothesis that nematodes interacting with plants as either parasites or beneficial saprophytes are attracted to their host by natural products. This concept was supported by numerous observations that parasitic nematodes are attracted to root exudates. Our overall goal was to identify nematode sensory compounds from root exudates and to use that information for reducing nematicide applications. We applied skills of the investigators to achieve three specific objectives: 1) Identify nematode behavioral cues (e.g., attractants or repellents) in root exudates; 2) Identify new natural nematicidal compounds; and 3) Combine a natural attractant and a nematicide into a nematode trap. Because saprophytic nematodes benefit plants by mineralizing organic matter, we sought compounds attractive primarily to parasitic nematodes. The project was constructed on several complementary foundations. First, data from Dr. Spiegel’s lab showed that under aseptic conditions Ditylenchus dipsaci, a parasite on onion, is attracted to certain fractions of onion root exudates. Second, PI Phillips had a sizeable collection of natural plant products he had identified from previous work on Rhizobium-legume interactions, which could be tested “off the shelf”. Third, Dr. Ferris had access to aseptic and natural populations of various saprophytic and parasitic nematodes. The project focused on five nematode species: D.dipsaci, Heterodera avenae, and Tylenchulussemipenetransat ARO, and Meloidogyne javanicand Caenorhabditis elegans at UCD. Ten pure plant compounds, mostly flavonoids, were tested on the various nematode species using six different assay systems. Results obtained with assorted test systems and by various scientists in the same test systems were essentially irreproducible. Many convincing, Many convincing, i.e. statistically significant, results in one system or with one investigator could not be repeated with other assays or different people. A recent report from others found that these compounds, plus another 30, were inactive as attractants in three additional parasitic nematode species (Wuyts et al. Nematology 8:89- 101, 2006). Assays designed to test the hypothesis that several compounds together are required to attract nematodes have thus far failed to find a reproducibly active combination. In contrast to results using pure plant compounds, complex unfractionated exudates from aseptic onion root reproducibly attracted D. dipsaci in both the ARO and UCD labs. Onion root exudate collection, separation into HPLC fractions, assays using D. dipsaci and MS-MS experiments proceeded collaboratively between ARO and UCD without any definitive identification of an active compound. The final active fraction contained two major molecules and traces of several other compounds. In the end, analytical studies were limited by the amount of onion root exudate and the complexity of the purification process. These tests showed that aseptic plant roots release attractant molecules, but whether nematodes influence that release, as insects trigger release of attractants from plants, is unknown. Related experiments showed that the saprophyte C. elegans stimulates its prey, Pseudomonas bacteria, to increase production of 2, 4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) a compound that promotes amino acid exudation by plant roots. It is thus possible that saprophytic nematodes are attracted primarily to their bacterial or fungal prey and secondarily to effects of those microorganisms on root exudation. These observations offer promising avenues for understanding root-zone interactions, but no direct routes to controlling nematodes in agriculture were evident. Extracts from two plant sources, Chrysanthemum coronarium and Sequoia sempervirens, showed nematicidal activity at ARO and UCD, respectively. Attempts to purify an active compound from S. sempervirens failed, but preliminary results from C. coronarium are judged to form a potential basis for further work at ARO. These results highlight the problems of studying complex movement patterns in sentient organisms like nematodes and the issues associated with natural product isolation from complex mixtures. Those two difficulties combined with complications now associated with obtaining US visas, slowed and ultimately limited progress on this project. As a result, US investigators expended only 65% of the $207,400 originally planned for this project. The Israeli side of the project advanced more directly toward its scientific goals and lists its expenditures in the customary financial report.
