The formula is(Ca7.63Na0.17K0.01)Σ7.81(Mn2.752+Mg1.10)Σ3.85(Mn4.503+Al1.87Fe1.613+Ti0.02)Σ8.00Si12.13O39.71(OH)16.29,which simplifies to Ca8(Mn2+,Mg)4(Mn3+,Al,Fe3+)8Si12O5∂-n(OH)n. Strong lines in the X-ray powder diffraction pattern are: 4.76(60)(004, 111), 3.87(70)(202), 2.96(100)(115, 300), 2.88(25)(022), 2.72(70)(302), 2.67(45)(3̄04, 3̄11), 2.55(45)(024, 3̄13) and 2.38(45)(304).Its colour is deep orange with a pale orange streak and vitreous lustre. Transparent. Non-fluorescent. H6 (Mohs). Density (calc.) = 3.40 g/cm3. Optically biaxial negative, 2V(meas) = 46(5)°, 2V(calc) = 46°, dispersion indiscernible. Refractive indices: α = 1.782(5), β = 1.820(5), γ = 1.827(5). Orientation: Y = b, c∧Z = 9–14° in acute angle of β. Pleochroism is distinct: X yellow, Y and Z deep orange. Absorption: X < Y < Z.This mineral occurs as fine prisms up to 0.2 mm long and forms aggregates in network veinlets cutting hematite ore from the Kokuriki mine in the Tokoro district, eastern Hokkaido, Japan. Associated minerals are: hematite, piemontite, quartz, neotocite, bementite, apatite, Mn-oxides, inesite and rhodochrosite. The mineral is named okhotskite for the Sea of Okhotsk, along which the mine is located.

Introducción: La Medicina Natural y Tradicional se aplica en Cuba como estrategia curricular en la carrera de medicina, constituyendo las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones uno de los métodos efectivos para su aplicación. Objetivo: Confeccionar una multimedia educativa para el aprendizaje de la acupuntura y digitopuntura por estudiantes de medicina. Método: Se realizó un estudio de desarrollo tecnológico en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Pinar del Río, de septiembre de 2017 a enero de 2018. Para la confección de la multimedia se identificaron como etapas de trabajo la búsqueda y recopilación de información, la selección de herramientas y el diseño. Se validó el producto mediante criterios aportados por 18 expertos en la materia. Se evaluó la efectividad de la utilización del producto mediante un experimento pedagógico a los 28 estudiantes que integraron la muestra. Resultados: La multimedia muestra un diseño claro y atractivo. Ofrece una libre navegación donde se puede llegar, rápido y fácilmente al contenido deseado. En su totalidad los expertos evaluaron el producto de «muy adecuado», y todos los usuarios emitieron criterios de «bien» en los indicadores «Facilidad», «Funcionalidad» y «Originalidad», además de presentarse un comportamiento similar en los restantes. Al aplicar el Test de McNemar, todos los valores dieron significativos, demostrándose la efectividad de la herramienta elaborada. Conclusiones: La herramienta confeccionada permitió al estudiante de la carrera de medicina interactuar con los contenidos de la acupuntura y la digitopuntura, considerándose útil como material de apoyo en la docencia. Introducción La idea suicida consiste en el pensamiento de acabar con la propia existencia, el intento de suicidio, es la autoagresión llevada a cabo con la intención de morir que no resulta en la muerte del individuo. La idea e intento de suicidio es un problema multifactorial, resulta de una compleja interacción de factores biológicos, genéticos, psicológicos, económicos, sociológicos y ambientales, considerados factores de riesgo. Objetivo Identificar los factores de riesgo, idea e intento suicida, en estudiantes de medicina antes al iniciar el internado médico de pregrado en una universidad mexicana. Método Se trata de un estudio prospectivo, transversal, descriptivo, el análisis estadístico se realizó con el programa SPSS y se obtuvieron medidas de frecuencia simple, proporciones y medidas de tendencia central. Se utilizó T de student y Tau de Kendal, Rho de Spearman, y Pearson, y un valor < de 0.05 para correlación. Resultados Se encuestaron 740 alumnos, Hombres el 37.02%, Mujeres el 62.97%. Se identificaron los factores de riesgo, el total de los que contestaron tener idea suicida fueron 301 el 40.67%, intento suicida 52 el 7.02%. De acuerdo a la prueba T de student los valores fueron iguales para hombres y mujeres, con un nivel de significancia en la idea suicida de .092, y el intento suicida de .238, en cuanto a la correlaciones con las pruebas Tau b de Kendall la correlación es significativa en el nivel de 0.01 (bilateral), y Rho de Spearman la correlación es significativa en el nivel de 0.05 (bilateral), la correlación con la prueba de Pearson es significativa en el nivel 0.01 (bilateral) Conclusiones Identificamos los factores de riesgo, encontramos una correlación positiva entre idea e intento suicida, y consideramos que nuestro estudio podría ser la base de próximas investigaciones, para realizar detección temprana, tratamiento y seguimiento de los alumnos.

The pitting corrosion resistance and passive behavior of type 304 borated stainless steels (Febalance–18Cr–12Ni–1.5Mn–(0.19, 0.78, and 1.76 wt %)B) manufactured through conventional ingot metallurgy were investigated. The alloys were composed of an austenitic matrix and Cr2B phase, and the volume fraction of Cr2B increased from 1.68 to 22.66 vol % as the B content increased from 0.19 to 1.76 wt %. Potentiodynamic polarization tests measured in aqueous NaCl solutions revealed that the pitting corrosion resistance was reduced as the B content increased and the pits were initiated at the matrix adjacent to the Cr2B phase. It was found that the reduced resistance to pitting corrosion by B addition was due to the formation of more defective and thinner passive film and increased pit initiation sites in the matrix.

Abstract Introduction Insufficient sleep is ubiquitous among active duty service members in operational settings. Although insufficient sleep has been linked to poor cognitive, psychological, and physiological outcomes in military populations, little research has investigated the impact of insufficient sleep on Soldier occupational wellbeing. This study examined the longitudinal association between sleep quality and occupational functioning in a population of active duty U.S. Army Soldiers. Methods Sixty male Soldiers (age 25.41±3.74 years) participated. Sleep quality and occupational outcomes were assessed four weeks apart (before and after an annual training mission). Sleep quality was assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Occupational outcome measures included the Emotional Exhaustion Scale, Walter Reed Functional Impairment Short Scale, Role Overload Scale, and Perceived Stress Scale. Linear regressions assessed the prediction of PSQI Global Score on occupational outcome scores. Student’s t-tests compared occupational outcomes between “good” and “poor” sleepers (PSQI Global Score &gt; 5 = poor sleeper). Results Poorer sleep quality at baseline broadly predicted poor occupational outcomes post-training. Specifically, higher PSQI Global Scores predicted higher emotional exhaustion (B = 1.6, p &lt; 0.001, R2 = 0.25), functional impairment (B = 0.29, p &lt; 0.03, R2 = 0.14), role overload (B = 28, p &lt; 0.008, R2 = 0.12), and perceived stress (B = 0.34, p &lt; 0.004, R2 = 0.2). Furthermore, occupational outcome scores were significantly higher in poor sleepers than good sleepers: emotional exhaustion: (t(58) = -4.18, p &lt; .001); functional impairment: (t(59) = -3.68, p = .001); role overload (t(58) = -3.20, p = .002); and perceived stress (t(58) = -2.43, p = .02). Conclusion This study identified a longitudinal relationship between sleep quality and occupational outcomes, suggesting that service members with poor sleep may be at risk for experiencing poor workplace wellbeing. Given the association between service member wellbeing and likelihood to re-enlist, insufficient sleep may negatively impact Soldier attrition. Future studies should aim to augment sleep quality and track occupational outcomes in this population. The new mckelveyite group mineral, alicewilsonite-(YLa), Na2Sr2YLa(CO3)6 ⋅ 3H2O, was found together with kamphaugite-(Y), paratooite-(Y), bastnäsite-(La), and decrespignyite-(Y) coating along fractures in dolomite at the Paratoo copper mine, South Australia, Australia. It occurs as pale pink to colourless pseudohexagonal tabular crystals up to 150 µm in size. The streak is white; the lustre is vitreous. The mineral has no cleavage. Dcalc is 3.37 g cm−3. Alicewilsonite-(YLa) is optically biaxial (−), α = 1.556(2), β= 1.582(2), γ= 1.592(2), 2V (meas.) = 60(2)°, 2V (calc.) = 63° (589 nm). The IR spectrum is reported. The composition (wt %, average of seven analyses) is Na2O 7.43, CaO 2.00, SrO 18.43, BaO 1.64, Y2O3 9.59, La2O3 11.74, Pr2O3 1.29, Nd2O3 5.74, Sm2O3 0.44, Eu2O3 0.09, Gd2O3 0.95, Dy2O3 1.15, Ho2O3 0.25, Er2O3 0.89, Yb2O3 0.29, CO2 29.78, H2O 6.18, total 97.88. The empirical formula calculated on the basis of six cations with 3 H2O molecules is as follows: Na2.10Ca0.31Sr1.56Ba0.10Y0.74La0.63Pr0.07 Nd0.30Sm0.03Eu0.01Gd0.04Dy0.05Ho0.01Er0.04 Yb0.01(CO3)5.92(H2O)3. The mineral is triclinic, P1, a= 8.9839(2), b= 8.9728(3), c= 6.7441(2) Å, α= 102.812(2)°, β= 116.424(2)°, γ= 60.128(2)°, and V= 422.17(2) Å3 and Z= 1. The strongest reflections of the powder X-ray diffraction pattern [d,Å(I)(hkl)] are 6.03(43)(001), 4.355(100)(11‾0, 2‾1‾1, 120), 4.020(30)(1‾11, 210, 1‾2‾1), 3.188(29)(2‾1‾2, 11‾1, 121), 2.819(96)(002, 1‾12, 211, 1‾2‾2), 2.592(40)(3‾01, 030, 3‾3‾1), 2.228(33)(2‾21, 4‾2‾1, 2‾4‾1). 2.011(36)(2‾22, 003, 420, 2‾4‾2), 1.9671(32)(3‾03, 301, 03‾2, 032, 3‾3‾3, 331). The crystal structure was solved and refined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data (R1= 0.058).

Background: The fast and outpatient setting for a determination of the hemoglobin (Hb) level is a well-recognized prerequisite to detect anemia in blood donors. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of the HemoCue methods (HemoCue B-Hb and HemoCue-301) against Coulter LH-750 as a reference method for Hb determination.Methods: This study was an experimental cross-sectional study. It includes 455 blood samples that were collected from volunteer blood donors between January 15, 2010 and February 15, 2011. The performance of the three methods and their comparisons were assessed using the analysis of coefficients of variation (CV), linear regression, and mean difference. Correlation coefficient and Bland–Altman plots were drawn to compare the two HemoCue measurements and the automated cell analyzer against each other and to evaluate their results. The Hb concentrations were compared using the concordance correlation coefficient.Results: The findings exhibited that the CV for the three methods Coulter LH-750, HemoCue B-Hb, and HemoCue-301 were 0.60%, 0.72%, and 0.92%, respectively. A statistically significant difference was observed between the means of the Hb measurements for the three methods (p<0.001). The HemoCue B-Hb and HemoCue-301 methods showed the best agreement, and the Coulter LH-750 method gave a lower Hb value compared with the two HemoCue methods. The results showed a positive correlation of HemoCue Hb results compared with the reference method.Conclusion: All three methods provide a good agreement for Hb determination. The new device HemoCue-301 was found to be more accurate compared with HemoCue B-Hb and Coulter LH-750.

Over 3.1 million women living in the U.S. have been diagnosed with breast cancer. The purpose of the present study was to determine whether stage of cancer, psychological distress, cognitive fusion (fusion of one’s thoughts and emotions), mindfulness, and resilience were related to quality of life among breast cancer patients. Participants were 24 women, aged 41-71, diagnosed with stage 0-3 breast cancer, recruited to participate in a pilot intervention study. All data for this study were collected at the baseline assessment. A multiple linear regression analysis explained 79.1% of the total variance in quality of life, F(5, 14) = 15.400, p < .001, Adjusted R2 = .791. Higher resilience significantly predicted higher quality of life (b = 2.392, p = .002), whereas higher stage of cancer (b = -8.068, p = .030) and higher levels of psychological distress (b = -1.737, p < .001) significantly predicted lower quality of life. Contrary to the hypotheses, higher levels of mindfulness significantly predicted lower quality of life (b = -0.612, p = .022). Cognitive fusion did not significantly predict quality of life (p > .05). More research is needed to determine how various factors predict quality of life among breast cancer patients.

Thirty nine elite Australian swimmers (13 AIS, 26 OTHER) completed a standardized questionnaire regarding their supplement use during a pre competition camp. The data were compared with a similar study conducted 11 years earlier (11 AIS, 23 OTHER) and framed around the classification system of the Sport Supplement Program of the Australian Institute of Sport. The prevalence of supplement use remained constant over time (2009: 97%, 1998: 100%). However, the current swimmers used a greater number of dietary supplements (9.2 ± 3.7 and 5.9 ± 2.9; p = .001), accounted for by an increase in the reported use of supplements with a greater evidence base (Sports Foods, Ergogenics, and Group B supplements). In contrast, fewer supplements considered less reputable (Group C and D) were reported by the 2009 cohort (0.7 ± 1.0 and 1.6 ± 1.3; p = .003). AIS swimmers reported a greater use of Ergogenics (4.3 ± 1.8 and 3.1 ± 1.7; p = .002), and less use of Group C and D supplements overall (0.8 ± 1.2 and 1.3 ± 1.2; p = .012), which was explained primarily by a smaller number of these supplements reported by the 2009 group (1998 AIS: 1.5 ± 1.4, 2009 AIS: 0.2 ± 0.6; p = .004). Although the prevalence of supplement use has not changed over time, there has been a significant increase in the number and type of products they are using. The potential that these changes can be attributed to a Sports Supplement Program merit investigation.

Abstract Introduction Somatization, the experience of having somatic symptoms (e.g., pain, fatigue, dizziness) with resultant psychological distress, has been described among working adults and contributes to work-related absences. Whether somatization affects employees’ sleep quality and sleep duration is unclear. We examined the association of somatization with sleep quality and duration. Methods Data came from the 4th wave of the multi-site Worksite Blood Pressure Study, which assessed psychological factors and ambulatory blood pressure. A total of 472 participants without major cardiovascular disease from 10 worksites in NYC were recruited across 4 waves and ~11 years. At Wave 4, participants completed the Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI) and a sleep questionnaire derived from the Sleep Heart Health Study. Items from the BSI were averaged and T-scored (normed to mean=50, SD=10). Items assessing sleep quality were averaged (higher scores indicated worse sleep quality). Weekday sleep duration was also reported using a one-time sleep diary. Analyses were restricted to participants providing complete data (N= 238). Linear regression models were specified predicting (1) sleep quality and, separately (2) sleep duration from somatization. Covariates were age, sex, race/ethnicity, body mass index, marital status, years of education, family income, employment status, and average work hours per week. Results Of the 238 participants, 79.8% were male, 11.8% were Black, 5.9% were Hispanic/Latinx, and 76.5% were married. Median family income was $70,000-$79,999. Mean age was 52.4 years (SD=8.1), mean years of education was 17.9 (SD=3.1), mean body mass index was 27.9 kg/m2 (SD=3.8), and mean hours worked per week (among those currently employed; n=191) was 42.0 (SD=10.9). Mean somatization score was 49.5 (SD=9.3), mean sleep quality was 8.4 (SD=4.3), and mean sleep duration was 6.5 hours/night (SD=1.1). Higher somatization scores were significantly associated with worse sleep quality, B=0.15, 95% CI 0.09, 0.20, p&lt; 0.001. The association of somatization with sleep duration was not significant, B= 0.01, 95% CI -0.00, 0.02, p=0.18. Conclusion There was an association between somatization and sleep quality but not with sleep duration. Future research should examine whether treatment modalities for somatization among working adults improve sleep quality and overall occupational health. ABSTRACTIn this work we present the results of comparative study n- and p-doping of Ge:H and Ge0.96Si0.04 :H films deposited by LF PECVD at high deposition temperature (HT) Td=300°C and low deposition temperature (LT) Td=160°C. The concentration of boron and phosphorus in solid phase was measured by means of SIMS technique. Such parameters as spectral dependence of absorption coefficient, room temperature conductivity σRT and activation energy Ea for both intrinsic and doped films were obtained. The doping range studied in gas phase was for boron [B]gas= 0 to 0.15% and for phosphorus [P]gas= 0 to 0.2%. In general effect of deposition temperature on P and B doping has been demonstrated. For LT films changes of [P]gas=0.04% to 0.22% resulted in more than 2 orders increasing conductivity and reducing activation energy from Ea=0.28 to 0.16 eV. HT films in the range of [P]gas=0.04% to 0.2% demonstrated saturation of conductivity. HT films showed continuous reducing Ea with increase of [P]gas. In the case of boron doping both HT and LT films had a minimum of conductivity at certain values of [B]gas=0.05% (LT films) and 0.04% (HT films) and related maximums of activation energy Ea(max) at the same doping with Ea(max)=0.47 eV for HT and Ea(max)=0.53 eV for LT films. It suggests a compensation of electron conductivity in un-doped films for low B doping. Further raising [B]gas leads to reducing Ea and the smallest Ea=0.27 eV was obtained at [B]gas=0.18% for HT films and Ea=0.33 eV at [B]gas=0.14% for LH films.

Th e objective of this study was to explore the in vitro effects of polymeric nanoparticle poly(ethylene glycol)-blockpolylactide methyl ether (PEG-b-PLA NPs) on functional state and viability of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs), which play an important role in maintaining ovarian function and female fertility.Methods. The GCs isolated from porcine ovarian follicles were incubated with the different concentrations of PEG-b-PLA NPs (PEG average Mn=350 g/mol and PLA average Mn=1000 g/mol; 0.2-100 μg/ml) or poly(ethylene glycol) with an average molecular weight of 300 (PEG-300; 0.2- 40 mg/ml) in the presence or absence of stimulators, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH; 1 μg/ml), androstenedione (100 nM), forskolin (10 μM) or 8Br-cAMP (100 μM), for different time periods (24, 48, 72 h). At the end of the incubation, progesterone and estradiol levels produced by GCs were measured in the culture media by radioimmunoassay. Th e viability of GCs was determined by the method using a colorimetric assay with MTT.Results. Treatment of GCs with PEG-b-PLA NPs induced a significant decrease in basal as well as FSH-stimulated progesterone secretion above the concentration of 20 and 4 μg/ml, respectively. Moreover, PEG-b-PLA NPs reduced forskolin-stimulated, but not cAMP-stimulated progesterone production by GCs. A dose-dependent inhibition of androstenedione-stimulated estradiol release by GCs was found by the action of PEG-b-PLA NPs. Incubation of GCs with PEG-300 significantly inhibited basal as well as FSH-stimulated progesterone secretion above the concentration of 40 mg/ml. PEG-b-PLA NPs and PEG-300 significantly reduced the viability of GCs at the highest tested concentrations (100 μg/ml and 40 mg/ml, respectively).Conclusions. The obtained results indicate that polymeric NPs PEG-b-PLA might induce alterations in steroid hormone production by ovarian GCs and thereby could modify reproductive functions.

Introduction: The retinoprotective effect of the 11-amino acid fragment of darbepoetin PRK-002 on the models of hypertensive retinal angiopathy and hypertensive neuroretinopathy in Wistar rats was investigated in comparison with carbamylated darbepoetin and sulodexide. Materials and methods: The protective effects of the pharmacological agents were assessed using the following criteria: a semi-quantitative assessment of changes in the eye fundus when performing ophthalmoscopy, the retinal blood flow, the b/a coefficient, eNOs expression in retinal vessels, specific number of neuronal nuclei in the inner nuclear layer, and p53 expression in the retina. Results and discussion: A pronounced protective effect, exceeding sulodexide at a dose of 150 LRU/kg and carbamylated darbepoetin at a dose of 300 μg/kg when correcting retinal angiopathy was observed in PRK-002 at a dose of 4 µg/kg, which expressed in adjustment of the retinal vessels’ calibers, removing retinal arterio-venous crossings, reaching the target levels of the retinal microcirculation, the b/a coefficient, and the restoration of eNOs expression in the endothelium of retinal vessels. PRK-002 at a dose of 4 µg/kg has a pronounced neuroprotective effect comparable to carbamylated darbepoetin at a dose of 300 µg/kg in correction of hypertensive neuroretinopathy, which expressed in the normalization of the fundus image, reaching the b/a target values, the specific number of neuronal nuclei in the inner nuclear layer, inhibition of p53 expression in the neurons of the inner nuclear and ganglionic layers. Conclusion: The study revealed angio- and neuroprotective activity of the 11-amino acid fragment of darbepoetin PRK-002 in correction of retinal injury formed on the background of hypertension.

Lymph pressure (PL) in the main intestinal lymph duct with obstruction of lymph flow was determined. Under various conditions, the rate of lymph flow (JL) was essentially the same in either A rats (with communications between hepatic and intestinal lymphatics) or B rats (without such communications), but PL of A rats was significantly lower (P less than 0.01) than that of B rats. When the intestine was in the basal state, JL of A and B rats was 0.2-0.3 ml/h per rat, and PL was 1.5 +/- 0.2 and 3.3 +/- 0.2 mm/Hg, respectively. During fluid absorption, JL of A and B rats increased to 0.8-0.9 ml/h, and PL was 2.1 +/- 0.4 and 6.4 +/- 0.7 mmHg, respectively. During intravenous saline infusion, JL of A and B rats increased greatly to approximately 14 ml/h, and PL was 3.1 +/- 0.3 and 10.4 +/- 1.1 mmHg, respectively. The lower PL in A rats is apparently due to the possibility that during lymphatic obstruction most lymph could be drained off by the hepatic lymphatics. In A rats, luminal distension pressure had no effect on PL but in B rats PL decreased when distension pressure was 20 mmHg or higher. Furthermore, lymph pressure waves indicate the occurrence of rhythmical contractions of the lymph duct or its surrounding tissues, which may play a role in the propulsion of lymph.

Abstract Introduction: AAV-mediated gene transfer of blood coagulation Factor IX (FIX) has been established as a safe and long-term treatment for patients suffering from severe hereditary Haemophilia B. A gain-of-function F9 transgene (F9-R338L; Padua) has recently been used to achieve higher functional levels of FIX, effectively eliminating the need for regular prophylaxis. The naturally-occurring R338L Padua mutation is situated in the catalytic domain of FIX on a helical side loop (region 332-339) that is involved in FVIIIa-mediated stimulation of substrate turnover. Here, we examined if a single amino acid substitution of a lysine at position 301 leads to gain of function. This basic residue sits adjacent to the 332-339 loop on an exposed helical segment (292-303) that has been implicated to interact with the FVIIIa A2 domain in the FIXa-FVIIIa tenase complex. Methods: We examined the lysine at position 301 (numbering based on mature polypeptide chain) in more detail by conservative mutation to arginine (K301R) and non-conservative mutation to leucine (K301L). To assess specific FIX activity, F9-K301 variants were transiently expressed in HEK293T cells and tested for antigenic FIX levels and chromogenic activity 48 hours post transfection. To assess specific activity in plasma, AAV-mediated gene transfer (1x1010vg/mouse) of F9-K301 variants in hemophilia B knock-out mice (CL57B6) was carried out. In addition, we investigated whether the F9-K301R mutation enhances specific activity in combination with the F9-R338L Padua mutation via site-specific genome integration. Results: Transient transfection of F9-K301 variants in HEK293T cells showed a 25% increase in specific activity with F9-K301R but a 50% reduction in activity with F9-K301L as compared to wild type F9 (WT-F9). Validation of gain-of-function was done by AAV-mediated gene transfer in hemophilia B knock-out mice. Four weeks post injection, plasma FIX antigen levels were similar in mice transduced with either F9-K301R (0.91±0.3 U/ml; N=3), F9-K301L (0.93±0.0 U/ml; N=2) or WT-F9 (0.94±0.19 U/ml; N=4) constructs. Interestingly, specific chromogenic activity in plasma from F9-K301R mice (2.71±0.66 U/ml) was more than 2-fold higher compared to plasma from mice in the WT-F9 cohort (1.25±0.2 U/ml). On the other hand, specific activity in the F9-K301L cohort (0.37±0.07 U/ml) was reduced compared to wild type F9, consistent with a haemophilic phenotype. Next, we investigated whether the F9-K301R mutation enhances activity in combination with the F9-R338L Padua mutation. To do so, we stably expressed wild type FIX (WT-FIX) and three FIX gain-of-function variants (FIX-K301R, FIX-R338L and FIX-K301R/R338L) in HEK293 cells via site-specific genome integration. Interestingly, higher FIX antigen levels were observed in conditioned media from cells (1.5x106) stably expressing FIX-K301R (0.14±0.01 U/ml) FIX-R338L (0.11±0.01 U/ml) and FIX-K301R/R338L (0.10±0.01 U/ml) relative to cells expressing WT-FIX (0.08±0.01 U/ml). Similar to previous results, specific chromogenic activity was more than 2-fold higher in FIX-K301R (1.25±0.08 U/ml) compared to WT-FIX (0.54±0.06 U/ml). In addition, specific activity was higher in FIX-K301R/R338L (7.71±0.35 U/ml) compared to FIX-R338L (6.69±0.32 U/ml), suggesting molecular synergism between both gain-of-function mutations. Ongoing studies are focused on characterizing these recombinant FIX variants in purified and plasma-based activity assays and unraveling the mechanism(s) leading to increased expression/secretion of these gain-of-function variants. Conclusion: In summary, these results show that the K301R mutation enhances catalytic activity of FIX in vitro and in vivo and synergistically enhances activity in combination with the R338L Padua mutation. As such, this gain-of-function mutation could potentially serve to facilitate higher levels of FIX activity in the plasma of Haemophilia B patients following AAV-mediated gene transfer. The addition of b-tricalcium phosphate improves the biocompatibility and the bioactivity of scaffolds made from poly(lactic acid)(PLA). In this paper, a developed method was used to prepare poly(lactic acid)/ b-tricalcium phosphate microsphere-based tissue engineered scaffolds. It was found that the porosity and the compressive modulus of the scaffolds increased with increasing stirring time. The PLA scaffolds with a higher strength and porosity could be obtained under the optimum conditions (i.e., 2.0 g of PLA, 0.2 g of b-tricalcium phosphate, 300 rpm, stirring time for 2h ). In addition, the corresponding mechanism has been discussed.

Avaliaram-se os efeitos do níquel e da concentração protéica da dieta sobre o consumo e a digestibilidade aparente da matéria seca (MS), proteína bruta (PB) e energia, e balanço de nitrogênio do feno de Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu, oferecido a ovinos. As dietas testadas foram: A- feno; B- feno + níquel; C- feno + mistura protéica; D- feno + níquel + mistura protéica. As dietas continham, respectivamente 0,2, 5,2, 0,5 e 5,5ppm de níquel e 3,1, 3,1, 8,2 e 8,2% de PB. Nos níveis com menor concentração protéica (A e B; 3,1% PB), não foi observado efeito do níquel sobre o consumo e a digestibilidade aparente de matéria seca, energia e proteína, assim como os balanços protéico e energético. Nos com maior concentração protéica (C e D; 8,2% PB), o uso do níquel resultou em menor consumo de MS digestível, energia digestível e energia metabolizável. A maior concentração protéica teve efeito positivo sobre as características avaliadas, independentemente da suplementação ou não com níquel, com exceção da digestibilidade aparente da energia bruta, semelhantes entre as dietas B e D.

The title complex salt has been isolated from a solution of chlorotetraphenylporphyrinatomanganese(III) and tetra(n-butyl)ammonium cyanide in dichloromethane. The complex salt crystallizes as a hydrate-dichloromethane solvate in the orthorhombic space group Pbca (no. 61) with cell parameters as follows: a = 21.491(5) Å, b = 21.706(5) Å, c = 28.489(5) Å, V = 13 290(5) Å3, Z = 8. The structure is that expected for a hexa-coordinated low-spin Mn ( III ) tetraphenylporphyrinate (magnetic moment: μ eff = 3.1 ± 0.2 μ B at 273 K). The Mn atom is in the centre of the slightly ruffled porphyrinato core. The Mn - C CN distance of 2.01(2)/2.02(2) Å and the Mn - N p distance, varying between 1.972(13) and 2.016(14) Å, are normal values. The Mn - C CN - N group is bent (171(2)/174(2) °). At low temperatures, a molecular electronic resonance Raman effect is detected at 198 and 344 cm−1. It is attributed to intraconfigurational transitions Γ 1g → Γ 4g and Γ 1g → Γ 3g Γ 5g , respectively, arising from the spin-orbit split 3 T 1g ground state of low-spin Mn ( III ), assuming pseudo-octahedral symmetry. Weak Q and intense B (Soret) transitions at 17 300 and 23 200 cm−1, respectively, as well as four weak trip–multiplet transitions are observed at 8650, 12 000, 14 900 and 19 900 cm−1.

HLA là gen nằm trên cánh ngắn nhiễm sắc thể số 6 ở người gồm nhiều locus và thường di truyền theo cụm. Việc định typ HLA cần thiết trong việc lựa chọn cặp ghép phù hợp đặc biệt trong ghép tế bào gốc tạo máu. Nghiên cứu cắt ngang xác định tỷ lệ các allele HLA-A, HLA-B, HLA-DRB1 và haplotype của các lucus gen này trên 233 mẫu máu cuống rốn được lưu trữ tại Ngân hàng tế bào gốc Bệnh viện Nhi Trung ương từ năm 2011-2014. Các mẫu máu cuống rốn được làm xét nghiệm định typ HLA cho 3 locus HLA-A; HLA-B; HLA-DRB1 bằng kỹ thuật PCR-SSP sử dụng bộ KIT AllSetTM Gold SSP. Kết quả cho thấy Locus HLA-A có 17 loại allele trong đó các allele thường gặp là A*11 (25.3%); A*02 (25,0%); A*33 (16,1%); A*24 (14,6%); A*29 (7,3%); A*26 (4,2%), các allele hiếm gặp là A*13; A*25; A*68; A*69; A*74 đều có tỷ lệ 0,3%. Locus HLA-B có 22 loại alllele trong đó gặp nhiều nhất là B*15 (28,4%); B*46 (9,8%); B*38 (8,0%); B*07 (7,6%); B*58 (6,9%); B*40 (6,2%), các allele hiếm gặp là B*18 (0,5%); B*37 (0,5%); B*08 (0,2%); B*14 (0,2%) và B*67 (0,2%). Locus HLA-DRB1 có 13 loại allele trong đó các allele thường gặp là DRB1*12 (30,1%); DRB1*14 (11,4%); DRB1*09 (8,8%); DRB1*15 (8,5%); DRB1*04 (6,9%), các allele hiếm gặp là DRB1*16 (2,8%) và DRB1*01 (0,5%). Các haplotype từ 3 loại locus HLA-A, HLA-B và HLA-DRB1 thường gặp nhất là A*11/B*15/DRB1*12 (17,5%); A*02/B*15/DRB1*12 (16,9%) và A*33/B*15/DRB1*12 (9,3%). Foliar sprays of Ca (300, 400, and 500 mg L-1), B (0.2, 0.5, and 0.8 mg L-1), Mo (0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 mg L-1), Ca + B (400 + 0.5 mg L-1), Ca + Mo (400 + 0.4 mg L-1), B + Mo (0.5 + 0.4 mg L-1) and Ca + B + Mo (400 + 0.5 + 0.4 mg L-1), were applied to improve the quality of poinsettia plants (Euphorbia pulcherrima) cv. ‘Supjibi Red’. Treatments were applied three times at: beginning, middle, and end of the short photoperiod. Calcium at 400 mg L-1 increased significantly plant height by 15.3 %. Leaf chlorophyll concentration decreased by 25 % when bract pigmentation initiated. Treatments did not affect the leaf chlorophyll contents. Calcium (300 mg) and B (0.8 mg) increased the number of transitional bracts (5.7 and 5.6, respectively) compared to 0.4 mg L-1 Mo treatment; while B (0.5 mg) increased the total number of colored bracts per shoot (8.36) compared to the rest of the treatments. Total chlorophyll concentration decreased by 95 % in transitional bracts, carotenoids decreased 89 % and anthocyanins increased considerably (from 21.4 to 296.7 mg g-1). Foliar applications of calcium improved poinsettia plant height and the Ca plus B combination accelerated bract pigmentation.

Bøgvadite, ideally Na2SrBa2A4F20 was found in the central part of a sample of the radiating aggregates in which jarlite occurs in the cryolite deposit, lvigtut, S. Greenland. Thin sections showed b!llgvadite as rectangular, uniformly orientated crystals 0.1--0.2 mm across, arranged as a somewhat irregular pavement covering a few square centimetres. The crystals, partly overgrown with ralstonite crystals, were embedded in a matrix of a kaolin-like mineral interspersed with fine-grained barite. Fan-shaped jarlite grains were scattered in the matrix. Bands and strings of fine­grained, spherulitic K-mica transected the whole mass. The composition of b!llgvadite is derived from the average of 11 microprobe analyses: Na 5.57% (2.0% rel.), Sr 7.03% (9.6% rel.), Ba 32.17% (3.0% rel.), AI 12.45% (0.9% rel.); calculations gave F 42.85% (0.6 rel.). F was found to be between 40% and 45%, but direct determination together with the metals could not be executed satisfactorily. As standards were used cryolite (Na, AI), b!llggildite (Sr), barite (Ba). No other elements were found in detectable amounts. Atomic absorptions spectrometry on a bulk sample showed Li to be below the detection limit (0.2 ppm). Gladstone-Dale calculations give Kc= 0.1073 and K, = 0.1118. Assuming the presence of 2.55% OH (giving F18.7 (OH)u in the formula) results in Kc= K,. Determination of OH/H20 was not possible due to the presence of kaolin and ralstonite. Bøgvadite is orthorhombic and the crystals show {010}, {110} and {012}. They are blocky, slightly platy after {010} and slightly elongated after [100). It is transparent, colourless and has H > 3, VHN25 = 300 ± 50. D = 3.85 ± 0.02 g/cm3, D calculated is 3.898 g/cm3• B!llgvadite is biaxial negative, a= 1.4326, 􀀕 = 1.4360, y = 1.4389 all± 0.0002; 2Va = 87° ± ½0, 2V. calculated = 85° ± 6°; a = c, 􀀕 = a and y = b; 0.A.P. = (100). X-ray powder diffraction and single crystal studies give a = 7.110 ± 0.003, b = 19.907 ± 0.010, c = 5.347 ± 0.003A; space group Pnmn or Pn2n. The new mineral has been named after the late chief geologist Richard B0gvad, of the cryolite company Øresund A/S. Small groups of bøgvadite grains have been observed in thin sections from several samples of the radiating aggregates. This Ba-rich fluoride formed early in the Sr-Ba-rich accumulations within the fluorite cryolite of the deposit.

(R,S)-4-Amino-3-(7-methylbenzo[b]furan-2-yl)-butanoic acid (7-MBFG), a new benzofuran analogue of the GABAB receptor agonist baclofen, has been evaluated for pharmacological activity on GABAB receptors in the guinea-pig isolated ileum and rat neocortical slices. 7-MBFG (300 and 500 µM) reversibly antagonized the (R,S)-baclofen induced depression of cholinergic twitch contractions in the guinea-pig ileum and shifted the concentration-response curve for baclofen to the right, in a parallel manner, giving an apparent pA2 value of 3.7 ± 0.3. Likewise, 7-MBFG (300 and 500 µM) reversibly blocked the baclofen-induced suppression of spontaneous discharges, in rat neocortical slices maintained in Mg2+-free Krebs medium, and caused a rightward, parallel shift of the baclofen concentration-response curve, giving an apparent pA2 value of 4.1 ± 0.1. The compound 7-MBFG belongs to a novel, new class of antagonist at central and peripheral GABAB receptors, in which the antagonist properties reside in the pseudo-aromatic character of their 3-benzo[b]furan-2-yl substituents, and might provide useful leads for further development of GABAB receptor ligands.Key words: (R,S)-baclofen, 4-amino-3-(7-methylbenzo[b]furan-2-yl)-butanoic acid, GABAB receptor antagonist, rat neocortex, guinea-pig ileum.

Electronically excited oxygen has an important place in the kinetic schemes of the processes taking place in the atmosphere, in the active medium of an oxygen-iodine laser, and in plasma-assisted combustion1. Over the past decades, a large amount of data on the rate constants of quenching O2(b) on a large number of collision partners has been accumulated. However, they mostly refer to the results of measurements at room temperature. In this paper, rate constants for the quenching of O2(b) by collisions with N2O, NO, and CH4 have been determined in the temperature range from 297 to 800 K, by the laser-induced fluorescence method. O2(b) was excited by pulses from a tunable dye laser, and the deactivation kinetics were followed via observing the temporal behavior of the b1Σg+→ X3Σg- fluorescence. From the analysis of experimental results, the following temperature dependencies of the quenching rate constants by these gases were obtained, and could be represented by the expressions: kNO=(1.77±0.2)×10-24×T3.5 exp(1138±37/T); kN2O=(2.63±0.14)×10-16×T1.5×exp(590±26/T) and kCH4=(3.54±0.4)×10-18×T1.5×exp(-220±24/T) cm3s-1. All of the rate constants measured at room temperature were found to be in good agreement with previously reported values.

Intravaginal progesterone (P4) releasing devices are widely used in hormonal protocols for fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). To reduce production cost in Brazilian farms, after first use these devices are currently reused once or twice, providing good reproductive efficiency in cattle. The aim of this study was to compare P4 plasma concentrations among time in ovariectomized cows receiving 3 different commercially available devices: Sincrogest® (SIN, 1 g of P4), Cronipres® (CRO, 1 g of P4 and 3 rings of 0,1 g of P4 for the third use) and Primer® (PRI, 1 g of P4). For each type, new (1st use, n = 2), once-used (2nd use, n = 2) and twice-used (3rd use, n = 2) devices were tested. Blood samples were collected at times 0 (before device insertion), 2, 4, 8, 10, 12, 24, 48, 72, 96, 120, 144, 168, and 192 h (Day 0 to Day 8). P4 plasma concentrations were measured by radioimmunoassay and the averages for each experimental group were submitted to analysis of variance adding repeated-measures in time factor. Comparisons were made among 3 types of device in each of 3 uses. P4 concentrations (ng mL–1) and standard deviation in the periods in which there was statistical difference (P < 0.05; a,b,cdifferent letters in the same period differ statistically) were as follows: First use: the 3 brands did not differ during the test and in Day 8 P4 levels remained near 2 ng mL–1. Second use: 2 h – SIN (3.7 ± 0.8)ab, CRO (5.4 ± 0.4)a, PRI (3 ± 0.4)b; 6 h – SIN (4 ± 0.5)a, CRO (4.9 ± 0.2)a, PRI (2.9 ± 0.3)b; and 144 h – SIN (2.2 ± 0.4)b, CRO (0.8 ± 0.3)a, PRI (1.3 ± 0.1)ab. On Day 8, Primer® and Sincrogest® P4 levels remained between 1 and 2 ng mL–1, whereas Cronipres® levels remained below 1 ng mL–1. Third use: 2 h – SIN (3.2 ± 0.04)b, CRO (7.9 ± 0.5)a, PRI (2.4 ± 0.2)b; 4 h – SIN (2.4 ± 0.4)b, CRO (5.4 ± 0.2)a, PRI (2.8 ± 0.3)b; 6 h – SIN (2.5 ± 0.8)b, CRO (7.4 ± 1.8)a, PRI (2.7 ± 0.5)b; 8 h – SIN (2.3 ± 0.2)b, CRO (5.3 ± 1.4)a, PRI (2 ± 0.1)b; 10 h – SIN (3.1 ± 0.2)b, CRO (5.5 ± 0.5)a, PRI (2.5 ± 0.2)b. 12 h – (2.7 ± 1.3)b, CRO (5.8 ± 0.6)a, PRI (2.2 ± 0,1)b; and 120 h – SIN (1.3 ± 0.2)a, CRO (0.9 ± 0.2)b, PRI (0.8 ± 0.04)b. On Day 8, all levels remained below 1 ng mL–1. In this study, P4 released concentrations differed in 3 of 15 periods in second-use device tests. In third-use device tests, Cronipres® released significantly more P4 from 2 to 12 h. It is unclear, however, if greater release of P4 in the first 24 h is advantageous, considering that Sincrogest and Primer® P4 concentrations remained above 2 ng mL–1. Additionally, it was noticed that P4 release decreased according to the number of previous uses. These findings suggest a variety of possibilities matching different device brands and different animal categories depending on animal steroid metabolism rate and consequent need for exogenous P4 supplementation. Abstract Interleukin-2 receptor-α (IL2R-α, CD25), one of a heterotrimer that makes up the IL2R, plays a key role in signal transduction pathways involved in the pathogenesis of autoimmunity and graft rejection (Burchill et al Immunol Lett 2007). In addition, the preponderance of CD25+ cells in hematological malignancies (Srivastava et al Leuk Lymphoma 1994) and the relationship between increased CD25 expression and poor prognosis (Yoshida et al PLoS One 2013) raise the possibility of using an anti-CD25 antibody to deliver a cytotoxin to these cells in patients. Clinical proof of concept for treatment of CD25-positive malignancies has previously been established using radio-immunoconjugates (Dancey et al Clin Cancer Res 2009) and immunotoxins (Kreitman et al J Clin Oncol 2000) utilising antibodies basiliximab and daclizumab. ADCT-301 is an ADC composed of a recombinant human IgG1, HuMax®-TAC against human CD25 attached to a PBD warhead. The drug-antibody ratio is 2.3 ± 0.3. ADCT-301 was potently cytotoxic against CD25-expressing anaplastic large cell lymphoma lines SUDHL1 (341,000 CD25 copies/cell, GI50 0.7 ng/ml) and Karpas 299 (112,000 copies/cell, GI50 3.9 ng/ml) and Hodgkin's lymphoma line L540 (91,000 copies/cell, GI50 3.9 ng/ml). In contrast, CD25-negative Burkitt's lymphoma line, Daudi, gave a GI50 >> 1 mg/ml. The released PBD dimer warhead induces highly cytotoxic interstrand cross-links in the DNA minor groove. Unique to this class of ADCs, the single cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay can therefore be used as a pharmacodynamic endpoint. For ADCT-301, cross-link formation was dose dependent and the peak of cross-linking occurred 16 to 24 hours after a 2 hour exposure of Karpas 299 cells. In vivo, ADCT-301 demonstrated dose-dependent antitumor activity against SUDHL1 and Karpas 299 xenograft and disseminated models. For example, ADCT-301 at a single dose of 0.2 mg/kg significantly delayed Karpas 299 tumor growth compared to vehicle-treated and isotype control ADC-treated mice, and at 0.4 and 0.6 mg/kg gave 3/10 and 10/10 tumor-free survivors, respectively (Figure A). 10/10 tumor-free survivors were also observed at a single dose of 0.5 mg/kg, whereas Adcetris gave only a modest delay in mean tumor growth at a single dose of 0.5 mg/kg despite this tumor expressing three times the level of Adcetris target CD30 antigen compared to CD25 (Figure B). ADCT-301 was well tolerated with no signs of toxicity at 6 mg/kg, currently the highest dose tested. Together, these data clearly demonstrate the potent antitumor activity of ADCT-301 against CD25-expressing hematological tumors and warrants the rapid development of this agent into the clinic. Abstract We investigate the peak flux energy spectrum of 458 solar energetic electron (SEE) events with a clear velocity dispersion detected at energies from ≤4.2 to ≥108 keV by Wind/3DP from 1994 December through 2019 December, utilizing a pan-spectrum fitting method. According to the fitted spectral parameters, these 458 events are self-consistently classified into five spectral types: 304 downward double-power-law (DDPL) events, 32 upward double-power-law (UDPL) events, 23 single-power-law (SPL) events, 44 Ellison–Ramaty (ER) events, and 55 logarithmic–parabola (LP) events. The DDPL events can be further divided into two types: 231 DDPL E B ≥ 20 keV events and 73 DDPL E B < 20 keV events, since their break energy E B exhibits a double-peak distribution separated by a dip at ∼20 keV. The DDPL E B < 20 keV ( DDPL E B ≥ 20 keV ) events show a power-law spectral index of 2.0 − 0.2 + 0.2 ( 2.1 − 0.3 + 0.3 ) at energies below E B = 5.6 − 2.4 + 2.3 ( 61 − 12 + 23 ) keV and an index of 3.3 − 0.3 + 0.5 ( 3.9 − 0.7 + 0.6 ) at energies above. The UDPL events have a spectral index of 3.0 − 0.3 + 0.3 at energies below E B = 5.1 − 1.8 + 4.2 keV and an index of 2.2 − 0.3 + 0.2 at energies above. The SPL events exhibit a spectral index of 2.8 − 0.2 + 0.5 . The ER events show a spectral index of 1.9 − 0.3 + 0.3 at energies below E c = 31 − 11 + 19 keV. The LP events are characterized by a spectral slope of 1.8 − 0.3 + 0.4 ( 3.6 − 0.5 + 0.7 ) at 2.8 keV (108 keV). The six spectral types also behave differently in the relationship between spectral parameters and in solar cycle variations. The spectral shape of most SEE events appears to be unrelated to the estimated electron path lengths. These results suggest that the formation of SEE events can involve complex processes/sources.

It has been shown that zeppelins with pork meat contain proteins (3,1 %), fats (6,9 %), carbohydrates (14,8 %), organic acids (0,2 %), dietary fiber (1,3 %), ash (1,04 %) and water (70,4 %), vitamins (A, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, E, D, H, K, PP, etc.), macronutrients ( K, Ca, Mg, Na, S, P, Cl), trace elements, free amino acids (essential and nonessential), free fatty acids (saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) and other substances, caloric content - 133,94 kcal. The technology for obtaining frozen zeppelin is promising for the potato processing industry in Russia.

Abstract Serum concentrations of total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoproteins (apo) A-I, B, CII, CIII, and E in 36 hemodialysis patients and nine anephric patients were compared with the concentrations in 34 normolipidemic subjects. The dialysis patients displayed a moderate hypertriglyceridemia (1.94 +/- 0.12 vs 1.09 +/- 0.11 mmol/L in controls, mean +/- SEM; P less than 0.001), apo CIII concentrations were also increased (130.2 +/- 2.1 vs 108.4 +/- 0.7 mg/L; P less than 0.001), whereas apo CII (34.5 +/- 0.5 vs 36 +/- 0.5 mg/L; P less than 0.05), apo E (22.7 +/- 0.3 vs 27.9 +/- 0.2 mg/L; P less than 0.001), and apo A-I (1.18 +/- 0.05 vs 1.31 +/- 0.04 g/L; P less than 0.05) were decreased. Concentrations of serum apo B were normal (0.86 +/- 0.03 vs 0.97 +/- 0.07 g/L). In the hemodialysis patients, apo CIII concentrations were increased in apo B-containing lipoproteins (30.1 +/- 0.5 vs 25.0 +/- 0.1 mg/L; P less than 0.001), whereas CII and E were decreased below control values (14.4 +/- 0.2 vs 16.8 +/- 0.1, and 8.2 +/- 0.2 vs 11.4 +/- 0.1 mg/L, respectively; P less than 0.001 each). By calculation, non-B-containing lipoproteins in the hemodialysis group had increased concentrations of apo CIII (100.1 +/- 2.1 vs 83.3 +/- 0.7 mg/L; P less than 0.001) and decreased amounts of apo E (14.5 +/- 0.4 vs 16.4 +/- 0.3 mg/L; P less than 0.001); apo CII content was unchanged (20.1 +/- 0.5 vs 19.3 +/- 0.5 mg/L). Results for apo CII, CIII, and E among apo A-I-containing lipoproteins in both normolipidemic and hemodialysis groups were similar to those in non-B-containing lipoproteins. Finally, the sole significant (P less than 0.01) difference between the anephric and hemodialysis groups was the lower apo E concentrations in the former group. Accumulation of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in hemodialysis patients may thus be related to the enrichment of apo CIII in apo B-containing lipoproteins and to a marked decrease in the apo CII and E contents.

Abstract Background: ARQ 092 is an oral allosteric, potent and selective AKT inhibitor with in vitro and in vivo activity in solid and hematological tumors. ARQ 092-101, the first clinical trial of ARQ 092, has enrolled more than 100 subjects with advanced solid tumors or recurrent malignant lymphoma. As reported previously, the dose escalation portion of the study has been completed and two dosing schedules (intermittent and weekly), are recommended for phase 2 studies. The recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D) for the intermittent dosing schedule is 200 mg once daily (QD) (one week on, one week off) and for the weekly dosing schedule is 300 mg twice daily (BID) (one day on, six days off). [1, 2] Enrollment in an expansion cohort at RP2Ds is ongoing. Here we report the results from 11 subjects with lymphoma/CLL. Material and Methods: Subjects with lymphoma/CLL have been enrolled and treated in the dose escalation and expansion cohorts with intermittent or weekly dosing schedule at the RP2Ds. Tumor responses for subjects with lymphoma were evaluated based on the Revised Response Criteria for Malignant Lymphoma. Adverse events were evaluated based on the NCI Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 4.03. Blood samples were collected for PK analysis. Archival or biopsy tumor tissue samples were collected for genetic analysis. Results: As of 15 Jun 2015, 11 subjects with lymphoma/CLL (73% male; median age 78 years; 5 follicular, 3 mantle cell, 2 diffuse large B cell, 1 CLL; 4 in dose escalation cohorts, 7 in expansion cohort) have been enrolled and treated at initial doses of 120 to 270 mg QD intermittently (n=7) or 300 mg BID weekly (n=4). All subjects have received at least one prior systemic therapy (median 2, range 1-6). Median duration on study treatment for all 11 subjects was 8 weeks (range 1 to 30 weeks). One subject with CLL and two with follicular lymphoma experienced durable partial responses, respectively with times to response of 8, 8 and 24 weeks and response durations of 16, 8+, and 2+ weeks. The two follicular PR subjects, one of whom had an AKT1 (E17K) mutation, remain on study treatment. In addition, one subject with follicular and one with mantle cell lymphoma experienced stable diseases. Four subjects experienced progressive diseases and two were not evaluable for tumor responses due to early consent withdrawal and clinical disease progression. Table 1. To evaluate the effects of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibition on renal aging, enalapril was administered in the drinking water to three groups of CF1 mice at doses of 20 mg/L (Group A), 10 mg/L (Group B), and 5 mg/L (Group C). These experimental groups were compared with 20 CF1 mice not receiving enalapril (Group D). At 2 yr, total body weight was 48.1 +/- 7.5 g in Group A, 47.7 +/- 7.1 g in Group B, 47.6 +/- 4.6 g in Group C, and 35.1 +/- 5.4 g in Group D. The ratio of kidney to total body weight, in percentages, was 1.8 +/- 0.3, 1.6 +/- 0.3, 1.9 +/- 0.2, and 1.5 +/- 0.1 in Groups A, B, C, and D, respectively. Morphometric studies of the kidneys revealed the glomerular diameter to be 86.7 +/- 18.0 microns, 96.9 +/- 6.3 microns, 91.1 +/- 11.4 microns, and 106.8 +/- 9.3 microns in Groups A, B, C, and D, respectively. The number of glomeruli per square millimeter of renal cortex was 9.6 +/- 3.7, 12.3 +/- 2.7, 12.4 +/- 8.6, and 3.2 +/- 1.5 in Groups A, B, C, and D, respectively. The mesangial area per glomerulus, in percentages, was 11.6 +/- 4.8, 13.9 +/- 2.9, 14.2 +/- 3.1, and 20.6 +/- 1.9 in Groups A, B, C, and D, respectively. Physical fitness (PF) is closely related to various health outcomes and quality of life among children. However, the associations between anthropometry, body composition (BC), and PF are not fully elucidated. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the associations between demographic metrics (age, sex), anthropometric measures (body mass index z-score (BMI z-score) waist/height ratio (WHtR)), BC parameters (body-fat percentage (BF%), muscle weight), and PF levels (800-m run, sit-and-reach, 1-min sit-ups, standing long jump) in school-aged children. Continuous variables were dichotomized by median splits. The results of 180 girls and 180 boys (mean age: 10.0 ± 0.7 years; mean BMI z-score: 0.366 ± 1.216) were analyzed. Multivariable linear regressions revealed that BF% (regression coefficient (B) = 3.4, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.5–4.3) was independently correlated with the 800-m run. Sex (B = 4.6, 95% CI = 3.0–6.3), age (B = 3.1, 95% CI = 1.9–4.3), and BMI z-score (B = −0.7, 95% CI = −1.4–−0.1) were independently related to sit-and-reach. Age (B = 3.3, 95% CI = 2.0–4.7), BF% (B = −0.3, 95% CI = −0.4–−0.2), and muscle weight (B = 0.7, 95% CI = 0.2–1.2) were independently associated with 1-min sit-ups. In addition to demography, anthropometry and BC provided additional information concerning some PF levels in school-aged children. Weight management and PF promotion should be addressed simultaneously in terms of preventive medicine and health promotion for children.

Abstract Evidence regarding the dose-related impact of doxorubicin on subsequent cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in Asian patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) without preexisting CVDs is lacking. From a territory-wide electronic database in Hong Kong, we identified adults who were diagnosed with DLBCL and treated with chemotherapy between 2000 and 2018. We evaluated the patients for incident CVDs (including ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy). We evaluated the cause-specific cumulative incidence (csCI) of CVD with levels of doxorubicin exposure by using flexible parametric competing risk analysis and adjusting for demographics, comorbidities, therapeutic exposure, cardiovascular risk factors, and lifestyle factors. Controls were age- and sex-matched to DLBCL patients. We analyzed 2600 patients and 13 000 controls. The adjusted cause-specific hazard ratio (HR) for CVD in patients treated with &gt;500 mg doxorubicin compared with non-doxorubicin regimens was 2.65 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.23-5.74; P = .013). The 5-, 10-, and 15-year csCIs were 8.2%, 11.3%, and 12.8% in patients vs 3.1%, 4.4%, and 5.2% in controls, respectively. Hypertension (HR, 6.20; 95% CI, 0.79-48.44; P = .082) and use of aspirin/angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor/beta-blocker at baseline (HR, 2.13-4.63; P &lt; .001 to .002) might confer a higher risk of subsequent CVDs. In this Hong Kong population-based study, doxorubicin exposure (absolute dose &gt;500 mg), together with hypertension or baseline use of medication for cardiovascular risk factors, was found to be associated with an increase in csCIs of CVDs. Tailoring therapeutic strategies to underlying CVD risk factors and risk-adapted monitoring and follow-up of susceptible DLBCL patients are advisable.

Abstract Introduction Idiopathic hypersomnia is a debilitating neurologic sleep disorder. Sleep inertia (difficulty awakening) is a common symptom that can significantly impair functioning and quality of life. This post hoc analysis evaluated response to lower-sodium oxybate (LXB; Xywav®) by baseline sleep inertia in a phase 3 trial (NCT03533114). Methods Eligible participants began LXB treatment with an open-label treatment titration and optimization period (10–14 weeks), followed by a 2-week stable-dose period (SDP). Participants were randomized to placebo or continued LXB treatment during a 2-week, double-blind, randomized withdrawal period (DBRWP). Using the visual analog scale for sleep inertia (VAS-SI), participants rated their difficulty awakening during baseline, SDP, and DBRWP on a 100-mm line with anchors at 0 (very easy) and 100 (very difficult). VAS-SI terciles comprised score segments of &lt; 44 (group A), ≥44 to &lt; 70 (group B), and ≥70 (group C). Efficacy assessments included the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Idiopathic Hypersomnia Severity Scale (IHSS), Clinical Global Impression of Severity (CGIs), and Patient Global Impression of Change (PGIc). Results Participants (A, n=34; B, n=33; C, n=32) were a mean (SD) 40.7 (13.5) years of age and primarily female (74%). At baseline, participants with the highest VAS-SI scores had numerically higher mean (SD) ESS (A=16.0 [3.1], B=15.6 [2.6], C=17.1 [2.4]) and IHSS (A=26.7 [7.7], B=34.5 [5.9], C=36.3 [5.5]) scores. Participants with the highest baseline sleep inertia were more frequently rated severely ill on the CGIs (A=17.6%, B=12.1%, C=34.4%). Baseline total sleep time trended higher with increasing VAS-SI scores. From baseline to end of SDP, mean (SD) scores decreased (improved) on the ESS (A=−9.9 [5.1], B=−9.8 [3.5], C=−10.0 [5.1]) and IHSS (A=−14.1 [9.9], B=−19.0 [9.0], C=−18.1 [9.9]), regardless of baseline sleep inertia; nearly all (99%) participants reported improvement on the PGIc. Mean (SD) VAS-SI scores decreased by 9.3 (11.9), 31.5 (14.8), and 42.8 (22.9) in groups A, B, and C, respectively, at end of SDP. Spearman correlation coefficients for VAS-SI and IHSS items assessing sleep inertia were moderate (≥0.3) to strong (≥0.6). Conclusion Participants with higher baseline sleep inertia generally had greater baseline disease burden. LXB treatment was efficacious across subgroups regardless of baseline sleep inertia. ABSTRACT In this study, we report on a detailed single pulse polarimetric analysis of the radio emission from the pulsar J2321+6024 (B2319+60) observed with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, over wide frequencies ranging between 300 to 500 MHz and widely separated observing sessions. The pulsar profile shows the presence of four distinct conal components and belongs to a small group of pulsars classified as a conal quadrupole profile type. The single pulse sequence reveals the presence of three distinct emission modes, A, B, and ABN showing subpulse drifting. Besides, there were sequences when the pulsar did not show any drifting behaviour suggesting the possibility of a new emission state, which we have termed as mode C. The evolution of the mode changing behaviour was seen during the different observing sessions with different abundance as well as the average duration of the modes seen on each date. The drifting periodicities were 7.8 ± 0.3 P, 4.3 ± 0.4 P, and 3.1 ± 0.2 P in the modes A, B, and ABN, respectively, and showed large phase variations within the mode profile. The pulsar also showed the presence of orthogonal polarization modes, particularly in the leading and trailing components, which has different characteristics for the stronger and weaker pulses. However, no correlation was found between the emission modes and their polarization behaviour, with the estimated emission heights remaining roughly constant throughout. We have used the Partially Screened Gap model to understand the connection between drifting, mode changing, and nulling.

We aimed to explore the association between volatile sulfurous compounds (VSCs) and periodontal epithelial surface area (PESA) and periodontal inflamed surface area (PISA) on a cohort of periodontitis patients. Consecutive patients were assessed for periodontitis and halitosis. A full-mouth periodontal status assessment tested probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL), gingival recession (REC), bleeding on probing (BoP), PISA and PESA. A halitosis assessment was made using a VSC detector device. Periodontal measures were regressed across VSC values using adjusted multivariate linear analysis. From a total of seventy-two patients (37 females/35 males), the PESA of posterior-lower regions was found to be significantly higher in halitosis cases than their non-halitosis counterparts (p = 0.031). Considering all patients, the PESA of the posterior-lower region (B = 1.3, 95% CI: 0.2–2.3, p = 0.026) and age (B = −1.6, 95% CI: −3.1–0.2, p = 0.026) showed significant association with VSCs. In halitosis patients, the PESA of the posterior-lower region (B = 0.1, 95% CI: 0.0–0.1, p = 0.001), PISA Total (B = −0.1, 95% CI: −0.1–0.0, p = 0.008) and the OHIP-14 domain of physical disability (B = −2.1, 95% CI:−4.1–0.1, p = 0.040) were the most significant variables in this model. The PESA from the posterior-lower region may be associated with VSCs when other causes of extra-oral halitosis are excluded. Further intervention studies are needed to confirm this association.

A high-photoactivity boric acid-doped titanium dioxide (B-doped TiO2) photocatalyst of the degradation of aqueous bisphenol A (BPA) under sunlight was synthesized and characterized by scanning electron microscope, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and UV-vis diffuse reflectance. The band gap energies of TiO2 and B-doped TiO2 (B/Ti mole ratio = 0.2%) were 3.01 and 2.98, showing that B-doped TiO2 could narrow the band gap of pure TiO2. In the photocatalytic kinetics of the photodegradation, the BPA photodegradation rate constants were 1.67 and 1.08 h−1, respectively. The BPA removal rate satisfies pseudo-first-order kinetics. Results showed that photocatalysts doped with boron displayed greater photodegradation (88% BPA removal) than pure TiO2 (65% BPA removal). Experimental results indicated that B-doped TiO2 not only was an effective photocatalyst, but also had considerable mineralization effects. The recycling test revealed that the photocatalyst remained effective after 10 uses, revealing the stability and reusability.

The effectiveness of various disinfectants against two potentially pathogenic Yersinia enterocolitica strains (Y. enterocolitica W1024 O:9 [strain A] and Y. enterocolitica B1 O:5 Lis Xz [strain B]) on shredded lettuce was examined. Dip-wash treatments using 25, 100, and 300 ppm of chlorine at 4 and 22°C, 0.2% Orenco Peel 40, 0.1% Tergitol, 0.5% acetic acid, and 0.5% lactic acid at 22°C were performed. Surfactants and organic acids were also tested in combination with 100 ppm of chlorine. Reductions of Y. enterocolitica counts with 100 ppm (2.68 log10 for strain A and 2.36 log10 for strain B at 22°C) and 300 ppm of chlorine (3.15 log10 for strain A and 2.55 log10 for strain B at 4°C) were observed after 10 min. Inhibitory effect of different chlorine solutions was not significantly (P &lt; 0.05) influenced by temperature. Surfactants in combination with chlorine were more effective than surfactants alone. Treatment with 0.2% Orenco Peel 40 plus 100 ppm of chlorine resulted in reductions of 2.69 log10 CFU/g for strain A and 3.18 log10 CFU/g for strain B at 10 min. Dip solutions containing 0.1% Tergitol plus 100 ppm of chlorine produced a significant reduction of 2.73 log10 CFU/g in strain A (P &lt; 0.05). With the 0.5% lactic acid plus 100 ppm of chlorine combination, inactivation of Y. enterocolitica was &gt;6 log10. The bactericidal effect of disinfectants was related to the concentration, exposure time, combination with chlorine (surfactants and organic acids), and susceptibility of each strain. Since the presence of pathogenic Y. enterocolitica on ready-to-use vegetables represents a health hazard, treatments as effective as 0.5% lactic acid plus 100 ppm of chlorine are recommended for washing of fresh lettuce.

Purpose To determine whether breast cancer subtype is associated with outcome after breast-conserving therapy (BCT) consisting of lumpectomy and radiation therapy. Patients and Methods We studied 793 consecutive patients with invasive breast cancer who received BCT from July 1998 to December 2001. Among them, 97% had pathologically negative margins of resection, and 90% received adjuvant systemic therapy. No patient received adjuvant trastuzumab. Receptor status was used to approximate subtype: estrogen receptor (ER) or progesterone receptor (PR) positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 negative = luminal A; ER+ or PR+ and HER-2+ = luminal B; ER–and PR –and HER-2+ = HER-2; and ER–and PR –and HER-2–= basal. Competing risks methodology was used to analyze time to local recurrence and distant metastases. Results Median follow-up was 70 months. The overall 5-year cumulative incidence of local recurrence was 1.8% (95% CI, 1.0 to 3.1); 0.8% (0.3, 2.2) for luminal A, 1.5% (0.2, 10) for luminal B, 8.4% (2.2, 30) for HER-2, and 7.1% (3.0, 16) for basal. On multivariable analysis (MVA) with luminal A as baseline, HER-2 (adjusted hazard ratio [AHR] = 9.2; 95% CI, 1.6 to 51; P = .012) and basal (AHR = 7.1; 95% CI, 1.6 to 31; P = .009) subtypes were associated with increased local recurrence. On MVA, luminal B (AHR = 2.9; 95% CI, 1.3 to 6.5; P = .007) and basal (AHR = 2.3; 95% CI, 1.1 to 5.2; P = .035) were associated with increased distant metastases. Conclusion Overall, the 5-year local recurrence rate after BCT was low, but varied by subtype as approximated using ER, PR, and HER-2 status. Local recurrence was particularly low for the luminal A subtype, but was less than 10% at 5 years for all subtypes. Although further follow-up is needed, these results may be useful in counseling patients about their anticipated outcome after BCT.

Studying the behavior of surfaces at high temperatures is of great importance for understanding the properties of ceramics and associated surface-gas reactions. Atomic processes occurring on bulk crystal surfaces at high temperatures can be recorded by reflection electron microscopy (REM) in a conventional transmission electron microscope (TEM) with relatively high resolution, because REM is especially sensitive to atomic-height steps.Improved REM image resolution with a FEG: Cleaved surfaces of a-alumina (012) exhibit atomic flatness with steps of height about 5 Å, determined by reference to a screw (or near screw) dislocation with a presumed Burgers vector of b = (1/3)<012> (see Fig. 1). Steps of heights less than about 0.8 Å can be clearly resolved only with a field emission gun (FEG) (Fig. 2). The small steps are formed by the surface oscillating between the closely packed O and Al stacking layers. The bands of dark contrast (Fig. 2b) are the result of beam radiation damage to surface areas initially terminated with O ions.

Abstract Objective Trail Making Test—Part B (TMTB) is a common neuropsychological instrument measuring aspects of executive functioning such as set shifting and cognitive flexibility. Typically, TMTB is discontinued if not completed within 300 seconds, limiting variability in interpretation for individuals who discontinue. This study aims to alleviate this limitation by examining whether a TMT-B Efficiency (TMT-Be) score can provide useful clinical information in a memory disorder clinic population. Methods TMTB was administered to 167 patients (101 females, 66 males) as part of a neuropsychological evaluation. Diagnostic groups included: Alzheimer’s Disease (AD; N = 83), Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI; N = 58), and Normal Cognition (N = 26). Ages ranged from 65–94. Participants completed TMTB according to standardized instructions. TMT-Be scores accounted for time, number of errors, and number of incomplete moves. Results TMT-Be scores differed significantly across diagnostic groups (ANOVA, F (2, 164) = 44.81, p &lt; .001). Post-hoc tests using the Bonferroni correction revealed TMT-Be scores in the AD group (M = 17.48, SD = 9.23) were significantly higher than scores of the MCI group (M = 7.91, SD = 5.68) and WNL group (M = 4.65, SD = 1.67). Significant correlations between TMT-Be score and other neuropsychological measures were also found and will be presented and discussed. Conclusion Results support clinical utility of TMT-Be scores for diagnostic purposes, such as differential diagnosis of normal cognition, MCI, and AD. Further research with a larger number of participants and other populations may lend further support to the clinical utility of the TMT-Be scoring method.

Abstract Background Exebacase (CF-301) is a novel lysin with rapid bacteriolytic and anti-biofilm activity against S. aureus, pronounced synergy with antibiotics and low propensity for resistance. Exebacase has undergone Phase 1–2 trials. This work was to develop pharmacokinetic (PK) model in animal and determine the relationship between exebacase exposure and efficacy in animals. Methods PK data in 592 animals (4 species) included in population PK model. A range of linear and nonlinear mammillary models with allometric scaling fitted to the PK data using NONMEM and the most parsimonious model was selected by improvement in objective function value (P < 0.01). To evaluate efficacy, 349 animals with 177 mice (neutropenic thigh infection) and 172 rabbits (aortic valve infective endocarditis were treated with exebacase in addition to suboptimal doses of daptomycin (DAP). Full PK profiles were simulated for individual animals. Fifty-nine dosing regimens of exebacase in mice (0–90 mg/kg) and 18 regimens in rabbits (0–1.4 mg/kg) with q24h, q12h and q8h frequencies. Relationship between AUC/MIC, Cmax/MIC, T> MIC, and log-CFU was examined using a range of functions by comparing residual standard error (RSE). Results 3-compartment model with allometric scaling best described the PK data and was validated by bootstrap and Goodness of Fit. Maximum drop in log10CFU/g in target tissues was at AUC/MIC< 0.2 for exebacase when added to DAP that was associated with CF reduction of -5 logs in rabbits (Figure (a)) with similar magnitudes in cardiac vegetations, kidney and spleen, and -4 logs in mice (Figure (b)). Treatment with DAP alone had log10CFU reduction of -1 in mice; and -2 in rabbits. AUC/MIC was an appropriate predictor of CFU reductions. Conclusion PK model adequately described the data for 4 animal species. Exebacase addition to DAP has a synergistic effect on efficacy measured by CFU reductions in target tissues in the animal models. Results support previously presented determinations of AUC/MIC as predictor of efficacy. Maximum reductions in CFU in rabbits and mice were observed at AUC/MIC ratios <0.2. These results further indicate that rabbit is the most appropriate efficacy model with MICs and antibacterial activity reflective of previously reported observations in human serum. The experiment was designed to investigate the effect of Fulifertil at levels 0,2 and 4 gm/L and growth regulators GA3 at 0,100,200 and 300 ppm also kinetin at 0,25,50 and 75 ppm and their combination on croton plants. In general the results indicate that there were increases in the carbohydrates, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium content. The anthocyanins and carotenoids pigments were increased while chlorophyll `a” and “b” pigments were decreased. These findings are required to give colorful leaves which give good display.

The crystal structure of GdZn3 was refined using singlecrystal X-ray diffraction data: YZn3 type, space group Pnma, Z = 4, a = 6:7250(13), b = 4:4620(9), c = 10:201(2) Å , R1 = 0:049, wR2 = 0:082, 303 F2 values, 25 variables. The zinc atoms build up a three-dimensional network with short Zn-Zn distances, while the Gd atoms are well separated from each other. The coordination number is 17 for Gd, and 10 and 12 for the Zn atoms.

The purification to homogeneity of hexokinases B and C from the cytosol of rat Novikoff hepatoma was achieved by a protocol using an initial chromatography on Blue 2-agarose to separate the isoenzymes from each other. After that step each hexokinase was subjected to chromatography on DEAE-cellulose, hydroxyapatite and Sephacryl S-300, followed by re-chromatography on hydroxyapatite. The final preparations of hexokinases B and C had specific activities of 86 and 23.5 units/mg of protein respectively, and gave single bands on electrophoresis under non-denaturing conditions or in SDS/polyacrylamide gels. Mr values of about 100,000 were found for both isoenzymes either by Sephacryl S-300 chromatography or by SDS/polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis. Values of apparent Km for glucose and ATP of pure hexokinase B were similar to those reported for the enzyme from other sources. The apparent Km value for glucose of hexokinase C was 0.025 mM. Marked inhibition of hexokinase C by glucose concentrations above 0.2 mM was found. The effect was partially relieved by ATP concentrations above 1 mM and was independent of pH. Glucose 6-phosphate was inhibitory, but the Ki value (0.18 mM) is higher than those reported for other animal hexokinases. The amino acid composition of hexokinase C was found to be similar to those reported for hexokinases B and D. Also, an immune serum directed against hexokinase A was able, at low dilutions, to bind hexokinases B and C. An immune serum directed against hexokinase C was able, at low dilutions, to bind hexokinase B and also, but weakly, hexokinase A.

The electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power of (B i 0.8P b 0.2-yVy)2S r 2C a 2C u 3O10+δ pellets with 0≤y≤0.05 is reported between Tc0 and 300 K. Thermoelectric power values of all samples were found to be positive and increase almost linearly with decrease of temperature down to ~120 K, before falling to zero at Tc0. With increasing vanadium content in (Bi,Pb)-2223 compounds, the magnitude of both the electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power increases. General features, however, remain the same. The results have been discussed on the framework of a "three-state model". Our analysis shows an excellent agreement between the measured electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power data and those calculated using the three-state model.

Abstract Autologous leukemia cells engineered to express immune-stimulating molecules may be used to elicit antileukemia immune responses. Gene delivery to human B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) cells was investigated using the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) as a reporter gene, measured by flow cytometry. Transfection of the Nalm-6 and Reh B-precursor ALL leukemia cell lines with an expression plasmid was investigated using lipofection, electroporation, and a polycationic compound. Only the liposomal compound Cellfectin showed significant gene transfer (3.9% to 12% for Nalm-6 cells and 3.1% to 5% for Reh cells). Transduction with gibbon-ape leukemia virus pseudotyped Moloney murine leukemia virus (MoMuLV)-based retrovirus vectors was investigated in various settings. Cocultivation of ALL cell lines with packaging cell lines showed the highest transduction efficiency for retroviral gene transfer (40.1% to 87.5% for Nalm-6 cells and 0.3% to 9% for Reh cells), followed by transduction with viral supernatant on the recombinant fibronectin fragment CH-296 (13% to 35.5% for Nalm-6 cells and 0.4% to 6% Reh cells), transduction on human bone marrow stroma monolayers (3.2% to 13.3% for Nalm-6 cells and 0% to 0.2% Reh cells), and in suspension with protamine sulfate (0.7% to 3.1% for Nalm-6 cells and 0% for Reh cells). Transduction of both Nalm-6 and Reh cells with human immunodeficiency virus–type 1 (HIV-1)–based lentiviral vectors pseudotyped with the vesicular stomatitis virus-G envelope produced the best gene transfer efficiency, transducing greater than 90% of both cell lines. Gene delivery into primary human B-precursor ALL cells from patients was then investigated using MoMuLV-based retrovirus vectors and HIV-1–based lentivirus vectors. Both vectors transduced the primary B-precursor ALL cells with high efficiencies. These studies may be applied for investigating gene delivery into primary human B-precursor ALL cells to be used for immunotherapy.

Aims: Early blight of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) incited by Alternaria solani is an economically important disease. This paper analyses the efficacy of copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) as an alternative to its existing management practices that predominantly rely on toxic fungicides which are potentially harmful to humans and the environment. Study Design: The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design with 7 treatments viz. T1:Cu-NPs from tulsi leaves, T2:Cu-NPs from neem leaves, T3:Cu-NPs from bael leaves, T4: Cu-NPs from chemical A (prepared from 0.2 M of Cu(NO3)2.3H2O + 0.2 M Ascorbic acid), T5: Cu-NPs from chemical B (0.2 M Cu(NO3)2.3H2O + 0.2 M CuCl2 + 0.4 N NH4OH), T6: Carbendazim 50 WP as check and T7: Control. Each treatment was tested at two levels of in vitro concentrations (i.e. 300 and 500 ppm) and the treatments were replicated thrice. Place and Duration of Study: Considering the importance of the disease and for developing an effective management strategy, the present study was carried out in the Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar during 2020-21. Methodology: Stable Cu-NPs were synthesized through three green synthesis methods by using bael (Agel marmelos L.), tulsi (Ocimum sanctum L.), and neem (Azadirachta indica L.) leaves and two chemical synthesis methods (i.e. chemical A and B). Results: The size (diameter) of the Cu-NPs from Agel marmelos, Ocimum sanctum, and Azadirachta indica were 427.4, 1,019, and 246.5 nm, and that from the aqueous solution reduction method and precipitation method were 1,537 and 867.8 nm, respectively. The synthesized Cu-NPs were evaluated against Alternaria solani at 300 and 500 ppm while Carbendazim 50 WP served as the standard check. The Azadirachta indica leaf-derived Cu-NPs at 300 and 500 ppm in the in vitro potato dextrose ager (PDA) medium exhibited the maximum mycelial growth inhibition of 60.24% and 75.9%, respectively. The size of Cu-NPs showed an inverse relation with the antifungal efficacy that indicated greater cellular penetration of smaller nanoparticles whereas much lower inhibition of mycelial growth in Carbendazim 50 WP as a check showed the lowest growth inhibition of 39.75% (300 ppm) and 59.03% (500 ppm). Conclusion: The results thus indicated higher efficacy of nanoformulations at lower concentrations that can be effectively used for the development of new nano-based plant protection agents against the early blight of tomatoes.

Abstract Background: Caudal block with the use of an adequate dose of bupivacaine, and combined with a general anesthesia (GA) provides intra-operative anesthesia and postoperative analgesia. No study has examined the use of 3 mg/Kg bupivacaine for intra-abdominal surgery in pediatric patients in clinical practice. Objective: Compare the effectiveness of three mg/Kg bupivacaine administered as 1.2 mL/Kg 0.25% bupivacaine and 1.5 mL/Kg 0.2% bupivacaine for caudal block in pediatric patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery. Methods: In a randomized, double-blinded clinical trial, patients (age: 6 months -7 years) were randomly assigned into one of two groups (n= 40) to receive a caudal block with either 1.2 mL/Kg 0.25% bupivacaine (group A) or 1.5 mL/Kg 0.2% bupivacaine (group B), with morphine 50 μg/Kg. The effectiveness of intra-operative anesthesia, complications, and requirements for post-operative analgesia were evaluated. Results: Data were available for 74 pediatric patients. There were no significant differences between the two groups in baseline characteristics. Intra-operatively, the numbers of patients who required a rescue analgesic were comparable between the groups (67% in group A and 63% in group B). The numbers of patients who required a muscle relaxant were also comparable between groups (49% in group A and 57% in group B). The time from discontinuation of the volatile anesthetic to extubation was significantly shorter in group B (9.5±1.1 minutes) than group A (14.3±0.9 minutes), p < 0.01. The time from initial caudal block to the first analgesic required in the recovery room was significantly longer in group B (202±45 minutes) than in group A (149±27 minutes). The time from the caudal block to the first analgesic required in the ward was significantly longer in group B (10.4±3.1 hours) than in group A (8.2±2.0 hours). Overall fentanyl requirements were comparable between groups, 52.5±2.0 μg in group A and 49.5±3.0 μg in group B. Conclusion: Caudal block by either 1.2 mL/Kg 0.25% bupivacaine plus morphine 50 μg/Kg or 1.5 mL/Kg 0.2% bupivacaine plus morphine 50 μg/Kg provided effectively equivalent intra-operative analgesia and surgical relaxation. However, a caudal block with 1.5 mL/Kg 0.2% bupivacaine plus morphine 50 μg/Kg provided superior prolonged analgesic advantages compared with 1.2 mL/Kg 0.25% bupivacaine plus morphine 50 μg/Kg in pediatric patients undergoing intra-abdominal surgery.

In this research, the physical and electrical properties of 0.8K0.5Na0.5NbO3-0.2Ba0.5Ca0.5Zr0.5Ti0.5O3(0.8KNN-0.2BCZT) were characterized. Lead-free material, 0.8KNN-0.2BCZT with and without alkaline excess was synthesized via solid state reaction method. KNN and BCZT were calcined at 700°C and 1200°C for 2 hours respectively and mixed by planetary milling. The mixed powder was recalcined at 1250°C for an hour then sintered at 1150°C, 1200°C and 1250°C for 2 and 4 hours. XRD analysis of 0.8KNN-0.2BCZT for excessive (8% Na, 2% K) sample sintered at 1150°C for 4 hours has single phase showing ABO3structure (A=K, Na, Ba, Ca and B=Ti, Zr, Nb) and multi phases for the other ones. The microstructure analysis (SEM) showed cubic-like grain shape in which excessive sample possessed greater average grain size than other. Dielectric properties and Curie temperature of single phase sample in this research were higher than those of pure KNN. The conductivity analysis reveals two regimes. The first regime (<300°C) showed no significant role of BCZT in KNN and the second one (>300°C) showed that BCZT increased conductivity of KNN and factor dissipation as well.

Integrals of the mean and turbulent energy dissipation rates are examined using direct numerical simulation (DNS) databases in a turbulent channel flow. Four values of the Kármán number ($h^{+}=180$, 395, 640 and 1020;$h$is the channel half-width) are used. Particular attention is given to the functional$h^{+}$dependence by comparing existing DNS and experimental data up to$h^{+}=10^{4}$. The logarithmic$h^{+}$dependence of the integrated turbulent energy dissipation rate is established for$300\leqslant h^{+}\leqslant 10^{4}$, and is intimately linked to the logarithmic skin friction law,viz.$U_{b}^{+}=2.54\ln (h^{+})+2.41$($U_{b}$ is the bulk mean velocity). This latter relationship is established on the basis of energy balances for both the mean and turbulent kinetic energy. When$h^{+}$is smaller than 300, viscosity affects the integrals of both the mean and turbulent energy dissipation rates significantly due to the lack of distinct separation between inner and outer regions. The logarithmic$h^{+}$dependence of$U_{b}^{+}$is clarified through the scaling behaviour of the turbulent energy dissipation rate$\overline{{\it\varepsilon}}$in different parts of the flow. The overlap between inner and outer regions is readily established in the region$30/h^{+}\leqslant y/h\leqslant 0.2$for$h^{+}\geqslant 300$. At large$h^{+}$(${\geqslant}$5000) when the finite Reynolds number effect disappears, the magnitude of$\overline{{\it\varepsilon}}y/U_{{\it\tau}}^{3}$approaches 2.54 near the lower bound of the overlap region. This value is identical between the channel, pipe and boundary layer as a result of similarity in the constant stress region. As$h^{+}$becomes large, the overlap region tends to contribute exclusively to the$2.54\ln (h^{+})$dependence of the integrated turbulent energy dissipation rate. The present logarithmic$h^{+}$dependence of$U_{b}^{+}$is essentially linked to the overlap region, even at small$h^{+}$.
