The efficacy of five application methods and four fungicides were evaluated for control of spring dead spot (SDS) of bermudagrass from 2002 to 2004. Fenarimol and propiconazole were most effective in reducing SDS, providing from 66% to 89% and 51% to 52% control, respectively. Application water volume (2.5, 5, or 10 gal/1000 ft2), post-application irrigation, and high-pressure injection did not affect SDS control. Further research with fenarimol was conducted from 2003 into 2005 to optimize application rate and timing. In both years, all rates (6, 4 + 4, and 6 + 6 fl oz/1000 ft2, with split applications 2 weeks apart) provided equivalent control of SDS when averaged across all application timings. No significant differences were detected among application timings ranging from August 1 to October 1 in 2003 and from August 23 to November 5 in 2004. Accepted for publication 22 May 2006. The airport package proposed by the European Commission (the Commission), including the proposed Directive on airport charges, the assessment of the impact of ground-handling liberalization and the Commission?s Communication on an action plan for airport capacity, efficiency and safety in Europe (section 3). In the discussion relating to the Communication, section 3 will also summarize the main findings of the November 2006 study by Mott MacDonald on the impact of secondary slot trading; and ? The Commission’s Consultation Paper on the possible revision of the CRS Code of Conduct (section 4).

Asian soybean rust (ASR) caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi Sydow is one of the most destructive diseases of soybean. The first detection of ASR in Mississippi on soybean was in Adams Co. on 16 November 2004. As of November 2006, ASR was found in Claiborne, George, Issaquena, Jackson, Jefferson, Lee, Warren, Washington, and Yazoo counties in 20 locations. Accepted for publication 22 May 2007. Abstract. Positive ionospheric storm effects that occurred during the superstorm on 20 November 2003 are investigated using a combination of ground-based Global Positioning System (GPS) total electron content (TEC), and the meridian chain of ionosondes distributed along the Latin America longitude of ~280° E. Both the ground-based GPS TEC and ionosonde electron density profile data reveal significant enhancements at mid-low latitudes over the 280° E region during the main phase of the November 2003 superstorm. The maximum enhancement of the topside ionospheric electron content is 3.2–7.7 times of the bottomside ionosphere at the locations of the ionosondes distributed around the mid- and low latitudes. Moreover, the height of maximum electron density exceeds 400 km and increases by 100 km compared with the quiet day over the South American area from middle to low latitudes, which might have resulted from a continuous eastward penetration electric field and storm-generated equatorward winds. Our results do not support the conclusions of Yizengaw et al. (2006), who suggested that the observed positive storm over the South American sector was mainly the consequence of the changes of the bottomside ionosphere. The so-called "unusual" responses of the topside ionosphere for the November 2003 storm in Yizengaw et al. (2006) are likely associated with the erroneous usage of magnetometer and incomplete data.

Yet Another Way Round Horizontal Direct Effect…In June 2003 Werner Mangold, who was 56 years old, concluded a fixed-term contract of employment with Rüdiger Helm. The contract provided that its duration was based on para 14(3) of the TzBfG (German Law on Part-Time and Fixed-Term Employment) which was intended to facilitate the fixed-term employment of older workers (those over the age of 52). A few weeks into his employment, Mangold brought proceedings against Helm before the Arbeitsgericht München (Munich Labour Court) claiming that the clause fixing the duration of his employment was void in that para 14(3) of the TzBfG, on which it was based, was incompatible with Council Directive 1999/70/EC of 28 June 1999 concerning the framework agreement on fixed-term work concluded by ETUC, UNICE and CEEP and Council Directive 2000/78/EC of 27 November 2000 establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and education.

AbstractAspects of the solar corona are still best observed during totality of solar eclipses, and other high-resolution observations of coronal active regions can be observed with radio telescopes by differentiation of occultation observations, as we did with the Jansky Very Large Array for the annular solar eclipse of 2012 May 20 in the US. Totality crossing Antarctica included the eclipse of 2003 November 23, and will next occur on 2021 December 4; annularity crossing Antarctica included the eclipse of 2008 February 7, and will next occur on 2014 April 29. Partial phases as high as 87% coverage were visible and were imaged in Antarctica on 2011 November 25, and in addition to partial phases of the total and annular eclipses listed above, partial phases were visible in Antarctica on 2001 July 2011, 2002 December 4, 2004 April 19, 2006 September 22, 2007 September 11, and 2009 January 26, and will be visible on 2015 September 13, 2016 September 1, 2017 February 26, 2018 February 15, and 2020 December 14. On behalf of the Working Group on Solar Eclipses of the IAU, the poster showed the solar eclipses visible from Antarctica and this article shows a subset (see www.eclipses.info for the full set). A variety of investigations of the Sun and of the response of the terrestrial atmosphere and ionosphere to the abrupt solar cutoff can be carried out at the future eclipses, making the Antarctic observations scientifically useful.

Abstract. Stratospheric ozone profiles are retrieved for the period 2002–2009 from SCIAMACHY measurements of limb-scattered solar radiation in the Hartley and Chappuis absorption bands of ozone. This data set is used to determine the chemical ozone losses in both the Arctic and Antarctic polar vortices by averaging the ozone in the vortex at a given potential temperature. The chemical ozone losses at isentropic levels between 450 K and 600 K are derived from the difference between observed ozone abundances and the ozone modelled taking diabatic cooling into account, but no chemical ozone loss. Chemical ozone losses of up to 30–40% between mid-January and the end of March inside the Arctic polar vortex are reported. Strong inter-annual variability of the Arctic ozone loss is observed, with the cold winters 2004/2005 and 2006/2007 showing chemical ozone losses inside the polar vortex at 475 K, where 1.7 ppmv and 1.4 ppmv of ozone were removed, respectively, over the period from 22 January to beginning of April and 0.9 ppmv and 1.2 ppmv, respectively, during February. For the winters of 2007/2008 and 2002/2003, ozone losses of about 0.8 ppmv and 0.4 ppmv, respectively are estimated at the 475 K isentropic level for the period from 22 January to beginning of April. Essentially no ozone losses were diagnosed for the relatively warm winters of 2003/2004 and 2005/2006. The maximum ozone loss in the SCIAMACHY data set was found in 2007 at the 600 K level and amounted to about 2.1 ppmv for the period between 22 January and the end of April. Enhanced losses close to this altitude were found in all investigated Arctic springs, in contrast to Antarctic spring. The inter-annual variability of ozone losses and PSC occurrence rates observed during Arctic spring is consistent with the known QBO effects on the Arctic polar vortex, with exception of the unusual Arctic winter 2008/2009. The maximum total ozone mass loss of about 25 million tons was found in the cold Arctic winter of 2004/2005 inside the polar vortex between the 450 K and 600 K isentropic levels from mid-January until the middle of March. The Antarctic vortex averaged ozone loss as well as the size of the polar vortex do not vary much from year to year. The total ozone mass loss inside the Antarctic polar vortex between the 450 K and 600 K isentropic levels is about 50–60 million tons and the vortex volume for this altitude range varies between about 150 and 300 km3 for the period between mid-August and mid-November of every year studied, except for 2002. In 2002 a mid-winter major stratospheric warming occurred in the second half of September and the ozone mass loss was only about half of the value in the other years. However, inside the polar vortex we find chemical ozone losses at the 475 K isentropic level that are similar to those in all other years studied. At this isentropic level ozone losses of 70–90% between mid-August and mid-November or about 2.5 ppmv are observed every year. At isentropic levels above 500 K the chemical ozone losses were found to be larger in 2002 than in all other years studied. Comparisons of the vertical variation of ozone losses derived from SCIAMACHY observations with several independent techniques for the Arctic winter 2004/2005 show that the SCIAMACHY results fall in the middle of the range of previously published results for this winter. For other winters in both hemispheres – for which comparisons with other studies were possible – the SCIAMACHY results are consistent with the range of previously published results.

The White-Tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is a rare species with declining numbers listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. In the Turkestan Region it is present during migration and wintering periods with the earliest sighting on September 10 (2018), and the latest on March 23 (2021) (Koksarai Reservoir, Gubin, 2020). Since 2003, wintering birds have been regularly observed on water bodies. Initially, counts were conducted in December–February, but starting from 2006 – in mid-January. The participants included S.N. Erokhov from 2003 to 2005, O.V. Belyalov in 2003 and 2004, F.F. Karpov in 2004 and 2006, A.V. Kovalenko from 2005 to 2014 (Kovalenko, 2015), S.A. Kravchenko in 2005 and 2006, B.M. Gubin from 2016 to 2018 (Gubin, 2020), and the author together with A.Zh. Abayev and M.A. Yaganin in 2014, 2020–2022. The White-Tailed Eagle was regularly observed at the Shardara Reservoir (area 783 km2), constructed on the Syrdarya River. The number of wintering individuals here is variable and depends on the presence of snow cover and the extent of ice coverage. However, in recent years, a decrease in the species' population has been noted: from 2003 to 2016, an average of 69 individuals were recorded (15 in 2004 and 120 in 2003), while from 2017 to 2022 – 21 individuals (12 in 2017 and 29 in 2022). The distribution of the species within the reservoir is uneven. The main concentration is below the Shuarden Dam in Shuarden, where the water never freezes. The birds gather in groups on rocks along the riverbank, occasionally on the ice. On January 21, 2014, 16 individuals were recorded, 25 ind. on January 13, 2020, 23 ind. on January 17, 2021, and 17 ind. on January 21, 2022. Along the reservoir, the species was encountered less frequently and more often as individuals: on January 22, 2014, 22 individuals were observed, and on January 20, 2022, 12 were recorded. In January 2020 and 2021, the species was not observed due to fog and rain. Other water bodies, smaller in area and shallower, often covered with ice, which limits the number of overwintering birds. Along the road from Shuarden to the village of Bayir Kum, which runs along the Syrdarya River valley (usually frozen in January), the White-Tailed Eagle was recorded on February 13, 2006 (2 individuals), January 20, 2014, and January 16, 2018 (6 each), January 13, 2020 (4 ind.), and January 17, 2021 (1 ind.). Further down the valley to the mouth of the Aris River, 9 birds were observed on November 11–12, 2021 (1, 2, 5, and 1), and 1 individual on March 9, 2016. The Koksarai Regulator (area 467 km2), located to the right of the Syrdarya River channel, 160 km downstream from the Shardara Reservoir, contains the maximum amount of water in spring and summer, which gradually drops throughout the summer and partially in autumn. In winter, only separate shallow bays remain that often freeze over. The reservoir is filled in January–February with the rise of water levels in the Syrdarya River. Winter counts were conducted in January from 2016 to 2022 (three individuals in 2021 and 44 in 2018, on average – 15 ind.). Along with rising water levels and the beginning of spring migration, the number of birds increases: 9 ind. on February 9–17 and 35 ind. on March 16, 2019 (Gubin, 2020). The Shoshkakol System consisting of 15 lakes occupies a salt-marsh lowland (area 535 km2), fed by the Bugun River and located 40 km from the middle flow of the Syrdarya River. Since the lake shores are concealed with reeds and the lakes freeze over a full-scale, winter bird count is not always possible. Nevertheless, from 7 to 15 (on average 11) White-tailed Eagles were recorded from 2004 to 2006, and from 3 to 10 (6) in 2016–2018. The Bugun Reservoir is located above the Bugun River (area 65 km2) and often completely covered in ice in winter. When it freezes, the birds migrate southward, resulting in the observation of 45 Whitetailed Eagles during 7 counts (2004, 2013, 2016–2018, 2020–2022) (from 1 to 18, on average 8). The Badam Reservoir (area 4.75 km2) is situated in the foothills of the Karzhantau Mountains on the Badam River, which, unlike the previous reservoir, never freezes due to its flow. The White-Tailed Eagle was only recorded from 2015 to 2017 (from 1 to 6, on average 4), and an individual was spotted on December 22, 2021. Along the Badam River waterfront in Shymkent (downstream), single individuals were encountered on January 19, 2014 (2 inds), December 13, 2020, February 18, October 20 and 29, December 18, 2022, January 15 and 26, 2023. On the city's sewage reservoir, located on the western outskirts of the city (area 2000 hectares), the species was recorded on January 14 and 18, February 26, December 24, 2020 (4, 3, 1, and 5 individuals, respectively), February 16, 2021 (2 ind.), February 16, 2022 (2 ind.), and February 6 and 27, 2023 (1 and 2 ind.). A pair was spotted on January 14, 2020, at the Burzhar River weir. Outside water bodies, single Whitetailed Eagles were recorded on migratory flights on January 13 near the village of Karabulak, on November 9 and 11, 2014, in the vicinity of Ryskulov Village, on January 22, 2016, near Shokpak-Baba Village, on February 12, 2019, near Aksukent Village, on February 14, 2015, January 25, November 8, 2020, December 17, 2022, and February 12, 2023, near Zhabagily Village.

Penelitian mengenai perikanan cantrang yang berkaitan dengan sumber daya ikan demersal sebagai hasil tangkapan utama dilaksanakan selama tahun 2006 - 2007. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fluktuasi bulanan hasil tangkapan cantrang yang berbasis di Pelabuhan Perikanan Pantai Tegal Sari. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei yang meliputi pengambilan contoh dari hasil tangkapan, pencatatan buku bakul dan statistik perikanan pelabuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah trip armada cantrang periode 2006 - 2007 didominansi oleh kapal berukuran 21 - 30 GT. Produksi bulanan Pelabuhan Perikanan Pantai Tegal Sari dari tahun 2004 - 2007 berfluktuasi. Secara umum, produksi bulanan pada bulan Nopember 2005 - Desember 2006 jauh lebih tinggi dibanding pada bulan-bulan di tahun 2004 dan 2007. Hal ini karena dipengaruhi oleh fluktuasi jumlah trip dan perkembangan unit penangkapan. Komposisi hasil tangkapan cantrang tahun 2006 berdasarkan pada hasil pengambilan contoh, didominansi oleh ikan coklatan (Scolopsis taeniopterus) (22%), kuniran (Upeneus spp.) (17,4%), dan swangi atau demang (Priachantus sp.) (9,7%). Ratarata laju tangkap pada tahun 2006 dan 2007 berturut-turut 333,6 dan 424 kg/hari. The research on danish seine fishery related to demersal fish resources as the main catch was carried out from 2006 - 2007. The research aimed to know monthly fluctuation of the danish seine catch in Tegal Sari landing base. The survey was conducted by sampling the catch, recording data from retailer’s book and landing base statistic. The results showed that number of trip from 2006 - 2007 was dominated by 21 to 30 GT vessel. Monthly production in Tegal Sari landing base on 2004 to 2007 was fluctuated. Generally, monthly production on November 2005 - Desember 2006 was higher than other months on 2004 and 2007. It was caused by fluctuation of trips number and unit fishing developement. The catch composition in 2006 based on sampling result, was dominated by lattice monocle bream (Scolopsis taenipterus) (22%), goatfish (Upeneus spp.) (17.4%), and purple spotted bigeye (Priachantus spp.) (9.7%). Average of catch rate in 2006 and 2007 was 335.6 and 424 kg per day, respectively. The catch rate in 2006 danish seine, Tegal Sari tended to be influenced by season fluctuation. While catch rate in 2007 increased and was not influenced by season. Fishing grounds of danish seine fleet in Tegal Sari landing base were in eastern coast of Lampung waters, Tanjung Selatan (South Kalimantan) and Tanjung Puting (Central Kalimantan), respectively.

Abstract. A satellite database including 16 555 satellite images and ice charts displaying the area of Isfjorden, Hornsund and the Svalbard region has been established with focus on the time period 2000–2014. 3319 manual interpretations of sea ice conditions have been conducted, resulting in two time series dividing the area of Isfjorden and Hornsund into "Fast ice", "Drift ice" and open "Water". The maximum fast ice coverage of Isfjorden is > 40 % in the periods 2000–2005 and 2009–2011 and stays < 30 % in 2006–2008 and 2012–2014. Fast ice cover in Hornsund reaches > 40 % in all considered years, except for 2012 and 2014, where the maximum stays < 20 %. The mean seasonal cycles of fast ice in Isfjorden and Hornsund show monthly averaged values of less than 1 % between July and November and maxima in March (Isfjorden, 35.7 %) and April (Hornsund, 42.1 %) respectively. A significant reduction of the monthly averaged fast ice coverage is found when comparing the time periods 2000–2005 and 2006–2014. The seasonal maximum decreases from 57.5 to 23.2 % in Isfjorden and from 52.6 to 35.2 % in Hornsund. A new concept, called "days of fast ice coverage" (DFI), is introduced for quantification of the interannual variation of fast ice cover, allowing for comparison between different fjords and winter seasons. Considering the time period from 1 March until end of sea ice season, the mean DFI values for 2000–2014 are 33.1 ± 18.2 DFI (Isfjorden) and 42.9 ± 18.2 DFI (Hornsund). A distinct shift to lower DFI values is observed in 2006. Calculating a mean before and after 2006 yields a decrease from 50 to 22 DFI for Isfjorden and from 56 to 34 DFI for Hornsund.

During the two geomagnetic storms which occurred on 1 October 2002 and 22 January 2004, the strong ionospheric scintillations of the GPS L1 band were observed at Wuhan station (30.6° N, 114.4° E, 45.8° Dip), which is situated near the northern crest of the equatorial ionosphere anomaly. We found that the intense scintillations were associated with the main phases of the storms and were co-located with the enhancement of the equatorial ionization anomaly (EIA); the co-existence of large- and small-scale irregularities at post-midnight was also found. The results may be relevant regarding the influence of the equatorial ionospheric eastward electric field during geomagnetic storms. On the other hand, GPS L1 band scintillations were not observed during the other two similar storms on 16 July 2003 and 20 November 2003. One of the reasons is probably that the sporadic E layer observed at the storms inhibited the generation of spread F by changing the Pedersen conductivity and suppressing the upward plasma drift.

The demand for information relating to the nutrition of horses in a cold environment is increasing with the popularity of loose housing of horses. This study examined the energy intake and growth of 10 weanling horses from November to March (22 weeks) in a loose housing system (paddock and insulated sleeping hall with deep-litter bed). The horses were measured weekly for body condition and body weight, and the feeding was adjusted according to a horse’s body condition. Metabolizable energy (ME) intake was compared to Finnish (MTT 2006) and Swedish (SLU 2004) nutrient requirements for 6–12-month-old horses. ME intake (75.5 ± 11.8 MJ d-1, mean ± SD) was on average 24.6% above the requirements. AbstractThe occultation of a 9.1 magnitude star by asteroid (22) Kalliope and its satellite Linus was successfully observed in Japan in 2006 November 7.826 UT. This was the first definite observation of an occultation of a satellite of an asteroid that was discovered previously by other means. As a result the position of the satellite relative to Kalliope was obtained to be d = 0.246 ± 0.011 (arcsec), and P = 313.8 ± 2.7 (deg), where d is the angular distance and P is the position angle. The derived size for Kalliope is (209 ± 40)km × (136 ± 26)km (with the major axis in position angle of (8 ± 17) deg), and that for Linus is (33 ± 3) km. From the observations, the occulted star is also found to be a close double star whose separation is about 0.7 mas in position angle of about 300 deg, and the magnitudes of the components are found to be almost the same (~9.9 mag).

Abstract. A satellite database including 16 555 satellite images and ice charts displaying the area of Isfjorden, Hornsund, and the Svalbard region has been established with focus on the time period 2000–2014. 3319 manual interpretations of sea ice conditions have been conducted, resulting in two time series dividing the area of Isfjorden and Hornsund into "fast ice" (sea ice attached to the coastline), "drift ice", and "open water". The maximum fast ice coverage of Isfjorden is > 40 % in the periods 2000–2005 and 2009–2011 and stays < 30 % in 2006–2008 and 2012–2014. Fast ice cover in Hornsund reaches > 40 % in all considered years, except for 2012 and 2014, where the maximum stays < 20 %. The mean seasonal cycles of fast ice in Isfjorden and Hornsund show monthly averaged values of less than 1 % between July and November and maxima in March (Isfjorden, 35.7 %) and April (Hornsund, 42.1 %), respectively. A significant reduction of the monthly averaged fast ice coverage is found when comparing the time periods 2000–2005 and 2006–2014. The seasonal maximum decreases from 57.5 to 23.2 % in Isfjorden and from 52.6 to 35.2 % in Hornsund. A new index, called "days of fast ice" (DFI), is introduced for quantification of the interannual variation of fast ice cover, allowing for comparison between different fjords and winter seasons. Considering the time period from 1 March until end of the sea ice season, the mean DFI values for 2000–2014 are 33.1 ± 18.2 DFI (Isfjorden) and 42.9 ± 18.2 DFI (Hornsund). A distinct shift to lower DFI values is observed in 2006. Calculating a mean before and after 2006 yields a decrease from 50 to 22 DFI for Isfjorden and from 56 to 34 DFI for Hornsund. Fast ice coverage generally correlates well with remote-sensing sea surface temperature and in situ air temperature. An increase of autumn ocean heat content is observed during the last few years when the DFI values decrease. The presented sea ice time series can be utilized for various climate effect studies linked to, e.g. glacier dynamics, ocean chemistry, and marine biology.

Of 20 Plasmopara viticola isolates collected in four locations in Virginia and northwest North Carolina in 2005, 16 were resistant to QoI fungicides. The resistance factor was over 100, and label rates of formulated azoxystrobin and pyraclostrobin provided little or no control of these isolates. Additional sampling in 2006 revealed at least 15 additional vineyards with QoI-resistant P. viticola in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Of 22 isolates of Erysiphe (Uncinula) necator collected in 2005 from five Virginia locations, 20 isolates from 4 locations showed resistance to QoI fungicides. The G143A mutation for resistance was detected in several isolates of both pathogens. This is the first detection of this type of resistance in P. viticola in North America, and the second North American report of QoI resistance in E. necator. Five foliar insecticides representing a neonicotinoid (thiamethoxam), a pyrethroid (lambda-cyhalothrin), a neonicotinoid plus pyrethroid (thiamethoxam and lambda-cyhalothrin), and two organophosphates (dimethoate and methamidophos, respectively) were evaluated for relative efficacy in managing consperse stink bug (Euschistus conspersus Uhler) on California processing tomatoes. E. conspersus density and percentage fruit damage were measured at harvest in an on-farm experiment at two locations in 2002, and small plot experiments in 2002 and 2003. Results showed that thiamethoxam plus lambda-cyhalothrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, and methamidophos can provide equivalent control of E. conspersus on processing tomatoes. Relative efficacy of the same treatments was inconsistent when applied before completion of small nymph development as estimated by the E. conspersus phenology model. Results can be utilized by growers with canning contracts that limit total organophosphate active ingredient per season, or in cases where stink bug treatment thresholds are reached within the processor preharvest interval for organophosphates. Insecticide efficacy evaluation is discussed within the context of continued research to provide IPM-compatible insecticide options to growers facing low processor tolerance for stink bug damaged fruit, and organophosphate insecticide restrictions in tomato canning contracts. The study is based on Samples of Rotifera collected from three ponds located inside the University campus, Garmat Ali region Basrah, Iraq. The samples were investigated for the density changes and for the diversity. There were found 26 species of Rotifera belong to 20 genera. The maximum recorded density was (51 ind. / l) which observed in May/2006 at pond 1, whereas the minimum density was (0.6 ind / l) recorded at pond 1 in November/2006. The total density was (225 ind. / l) at pond 1. It was found that the diversity of Rotifera (no. of spp.) is greater at pond 2 and pond 3 compared with pond 1. There were 22 species at pond 2 and pond 3 but only 9 species at pond 1.

Objectives: To determine the frequency of different risk factors among patientsof stroke due to cerebral infarction. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional survey. Setting:Punjab Medical College and affiliated hospitals (Allied Hospital and DHQ), Faisalabad. Durationwith Dates: Six months from June 2006 to November 2006. Methods: This was a crosssectional survey that included 195 patients with stroke due to cerebral infarction. The mainoutcome variable was frequency of different risk factors which were described as frequencydistribution table. Results: Hypertension was seen among 142 (73%) patients, followed bydiabetes mellitus in 83 42.5% patients, ischemic heart disease in 74 (38%) patients, smokingin 59 (30.3%) patients, obesity in 53(27%) patients, atrial fibrillation in 43 (22%) patients anddyslipidemia in 23 (11.8%). Conclusion: Hypertension is the most common risk factor followedby diabetes mellitus associated with stroke due to cerebral infarction.

Research must focus on management of diseases that cause extensive losses, especially when funds for research are limited. Knowledge of the losses caused by various soybean diseases is essential when prioritizing research budgets. The objective of this project was to compile estimates of soybean yield potential losses caused by diseases for each soybean producing state in the United States from 2006 to 2009. This data is of special interest since the 4-year period summarized in this report, permits an examination of the impact of soybean rust that was first reported in the United States in 2004. Thus, in addition to the goal of providing this information to aid funding agencies and scientists in prioritizing research objectives and budgets, an examination of the impact of soybean rust on soybean yield losses relative to other diseases is warranted. Yield losses caused by individual diseases varied among states and years. Soybean cyst nematode caused more yield losses than any other disease during 2006 to 2009. Seedling diseases, Phytophthora root and stem rot, sudden death syndrome, Sclerotinia stem rot, and charcoal rot ranked in the top six of diseases that caused yield loss during these years. Soybean yield losses due to soybean rust and Sclerotinia stem rot varied greatly over years, especially when compared to other diseases. Accepted for publication 21 October 2010. Farmers’ knowledge and practices on local versus modern inputs on peri-urban agriculture were investigated by interviewing 20 vegetable growers with purposive sampling in the Manahara river basin of Kathmandu Valley between November 2005 and January 2006. Further data were collected from group discussions, key informant survey, and observation. This paper attempts to explore some contradictions between scientific and local knowledge on peri-urban agriculture practices. The farmers have now intensified their production to meet the urban demand. The transition has made the farmers adopting improved farming techniques related to the green revolution over traditional practices. The farmers’ practices demonstrate to some extent a link between scientific and indigenous knowledge. Phakopsora pachyrhizi Syd. & P. Syd., which causes Asian soybean rust (SBR), was observed on Florida beggarweed, Desmodium tortuosum (Sw) DC., in Attapulgus, GA during late October and early November 2005. Tan to brown lesions (<1.0 mm in diameter) consistent with symptoms of SBR (2) were observed on older leaves of several plants collected near an SBR-infected soybean trial. Dissection (40 to 60×) and compound microscopy (×200 to 400) revealed conical pustules and ellipsoid, echinulate urediniospores (average size 15 × 20 μm) on the abaxial leaf surface. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (primers Ppm1 and Ppa2) (1) was conducted on four samples to confirm identification of P. pachyrhizi or P. meibomiae. Three were positive for P. pachyrhizi, and one was negative for both species. Using morphology and real-time PCR, SBR was confirmed as P. pachyrhizi by the USDA/APHIS in Beltsville, MD. Six noninfected Florida beggarweed plants were transplanted to pots during December 2005 and grown at 22 to 24°C in a greenhouse. On 11 January 2006, a water suspension of urediniospores collected from SBR-infected soybeans (1 × 105 spores per ml) was spray inoculated on all leaves to almost runoff and incubated for 48 h in a plastic humidity chamber. Lesions, pustules, and urediniospores consistent with SBR (2) were observed on 3 February 2006. A PCR assay was conducted on six samples from the infected greenhouse plants and all were positive for P. pachyrhizi. Florida beggarweed is widespread in the southern United States and may serve as an additional overwintering source for P. pachyrhizi and a potential inoculum source for the soybean crop. The great difficulty of incorporation of N fertilizers into the "green sugarcane" system causes concern and since urea is the most commonly used source, there is the risk of loosing NH3 through volatilization. For this reason, a field experiment was undertaken (in a Hapludox Typic) with the objective of evaluating the agronomic efficiency of ammonium chloride on stubble of the second ratoon (SP89 1115), as well as its residual effect on the subsequent cycle (third ratoon). The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications. Treatments consisted of three N rates (60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 N) in the form of NH4Cl, in addition to a control treatment without the addition of N fertilizer. The ratoon cane of the second cutting was harvested in November 2006 and the treatments were applied in December 2006. The second ratoon was harvested mechanically in November 2007 and in December 2007, 450 kg ha-1 of the NPK mixture 20-05-19 was applied, providing 90, 22 and 86 kg ha-1 N, P2O5 and K2O, respectively, for the purpose of evaluating the effect of residual-N from the treatments implanted in December 2006. An increase in the rates of N-NH4Cl had a positive effect on the leaf concentrations of P, Mg and S. Stalk yield (MSS - Mg ha-1 of sugarcane stalks) and sugar (MSH - Mg ha-1 of sucrose) in the November 2006 harvest responded linearly to the increase of N doses in the form of NH4Cl. In relation to the effect of residual-N in the 2007/2008 harvest, it was observed, in general, that the concentrations of macronutrients in the sugarcane leaf +1 were within the range considered adequate in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. The residual-N of the NH4Cl doses resulted in a significant reduction in stalk (MSS) and sugar (MSH) production. It may be concluded that the NH4Cl source at a dose of 120 kg ha-1 N in ratoon fertilization of the second cutting was agronomically efficient, presenting, however, less efficiency of residual-N in the subsequent cycle.

The level of annual total nitrogen deposition into the Baltic Sea basin has changed from 230 Gg N in 1995 to 199 Gg N in 2006, decreasing 13%. This value corresponds well with the total nitrogen emission reduction (11%) in the HELCOM Contracting Parties. However, inter-annual variability of nitrogen depositions to the Baltic Sea basin is relatively large, ranging from −13% to +17% of the averaged value. It is mainly caused by the changing meteorological conditions and especially precipitation in the considered period. The calculated monthly depositions are similar for most of the years showing maxima in the autumn months October and November. The source allocation budget for atmospheric nitrogen deposition to the Baltic Sea basin was calculated for each year of the period 1997–2006. The main emission sources contributing to total nitrogen deposition are: Germany 18–22 %, Poland 11–13% and Denmark 8–11%. There is also a significant contribution from distant sources like the United Kingdom 6–10%, as well as from the international ship traffic on the Baltic Sea 4–5%.

SUMMARYA retrospective cohort study was conducted to identify risk factors for bovine tuberculosis (bTB) recurrence in New Zealand cattle and deer herds identified as bTB-infected from 1 June 2006 to 1 November 2010. A Cox proportional hazards model identified a positive relationship between the daily hazard of bTB recurrence and: (1) the number of prior bTB episodes for two episodes [hazard ratio (HR) 3·22, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1·21–8·60], and for five episodes (HR 89·5, 95% CI 13·8–580), (2) more than one positive bTB case animal at the index episode (HR 2·25, 95% CI 1·19–4·25) and (3) the presence of cleared test-positives at the final test of the index episode. The proportional hazards assumption was violated for the latter variable so a time-dependent covariate was introduced. Up to 2 years post-clearance, the daily hazard of bTB recurrence was greater in herds with test-positives at the final test (HR 2·59, 95% CI 1·30–5·13), but this effect was not observed more than 2 years' post-clearance (HR 1·05, 95% CI 0·28–3·91). We conclude that unresolved infection contributes to further bTB episodes in the first 2 years after herd clearance.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the existing newborn sickle haemoglobinopathy screening programme in Jamaica. Methods: A retrospective analysis of infants screened during the period 8 November 1995 to 22 July 2006 was performed. Patient data for analyses was restricted to patients with homozygous (Hb SS) sickle cell disease. Published data from the Jamaican Sickle Cell Cohort Study was used to make comparisons with the study sample. Results: The study sample consisted of 435 patients with Hb SS disease. Acute chest syndrome was the most common clinical (non-death) event accounting for ∼50% of all events. Acute splenic sequestration, no longer a significant cause of mortality, was responsible for ∼32% of clinical events. Seven deaths (1.8%) occurred during the study period compared with 17.6% to the same age in the Jamaican Sickle Cell Cohort Study. There was a lower proportion of hospital admissions and episodes of serious illness in the study group compared with controls. Conclusions: Survival estimates for the study sample showed improvement compared with the Jamaican Sickle Cell Cohort Study. This study continues to demonstrate the benefits of, and as such shows support for, newborn screening and early interventions in sickle cell disease. In addition, it highlights some of the areas for continued focus and research development. Although the current system is providing an essential and beneficial service, the study emphasizes the need for newborn screening programmes to be comprehensive care systems to be fully effective.

Objectives: Alemtuzumab is a commonly used induction agent for solid-organ transplantation. Its use in lung transplantation with reduced immunosuppressive regimens, however, has yet to be well characterized.Methods: From November 2006 to March 2008, 20 consecutive lung transplantation patients received alemtuzumab induction with a reduced maintenance immunosuppression regimen. Twenty consecutive case-controls who underwent transplantation between 2005 and 2006 were treated with a standard immunosuppression regimen without induction. Outcome variables were patient survival, acute rejection, infection, and bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome.Results: Mean follow-up time was 1400 days in the alemtuzumab group and 1210 days in the control group. Double lung transplantation was performed in 21 patients (12 in the alemtuzumab group and 9 in the control group). There was no difference in survival between the alemtuzumab (n = 10) and control (n = 10) groups. There was also not a significant difference in time-adjusted death based on Kaplan-Meier analysis. The mean number of any grade of rejection event per patient was not significantly different (alemtuzumab 2.3 ± 2.7 vs. control 3.2 ± 2.35; P = .22). There was a trend toward the reduced incidence of infection requiring intravenous antibiotics per patient (alemtuzumab 2.4 vs. control 3.8; P = .08). The incidence of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome was similar in both groups (alemtuzumab 55% vs. control 70%; P = .25).Conclusions: Alemtuzumab induction with reduced immunosuppression offers a comparable 5-year survival and rejection rate compared to standard-dose immunosuppression regimen.

Abstract. During several balloon flights inside the Arctic polar vortex in early 2003, unusual trace gas distributions were observed, which indicate a strong influence of mesospheric air in the stratosphere. The tuneable diode laser (TDL) instrument SPIRALE (Spectroscopie Infra-Rouge par Absorption de Lasers Embarqués) measured unusually high CO values (up to 600 ppb) on 27 January at about 30 km altitude. The cryosampler BONBON sampled air masses with very high molecular Hydrogen, extremely low SF6 and enhanced CO values on 6 March at about 25 km altitude. Finally, the MIPAS (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding) Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectrometer showed NOy values which are significantly higher than NOy* (the NOy derived from a correlation between N2O and NOy under undisturbed conditions), on 21 and 22 March in a layer centred at 22 km altitude. Thus, the mesospheric air seems to have been present in a layer descending from about 30 km in late January to 25 km altitude in early March and about 22 km altitude on 20 March. We present corroborating evidence from a model study using the KASIMA (KArlsruhe SImulation model of the Middle Atmosphere) model that also shows a layer of mesospheric air, which descended into the stratosphere in November and early December 2002, before the minor warming which occurred in late December 2002 lead to a descent of upper stratospheric air, cutting off a layer in which mesospheric air is present. This layer then descended inside the vortex over the course of the winter. The same feature is found in trajectory calculations, based on a large number of trajectories started in the vicinity of the observations on 6 March. Based on the difference between the mean age derived from SF6 (which has an irreversible mesospheric loss) and from CO2 (whose mesospheric loss is much smaller and reversible) we estimate that the fraction of mesospheric air in the layer observed on 6 March, must have been somewhere between 35% and 100%.

Object Angiogram-negative subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) accounts for 15% of nontraumatic SAH and has been reported with low morbidity and mortality rates. We report on a large series of patients with angiogram-negative SAH who experienced an atypical nonbenign clinical course. Methods Between December 2001 and November 2006, 95 patients with spontaneous nonaneurysmal SAH and negative initial angiographic evaluation were treated at the University of Florida. The authors retrospectively reviewed the patients' medical records and radiological images to determine associated morbidity and mortality. Results Aneurysms were found in 6 of the 95 patients on follow-up imaging after an initial negative angiogram (6.3% false negative rate); these patients were excluded leaving 89 patients as the study group. Hydrocephalus necessitating temporary CSF diversion developed in 22 of these patients (25%); 12 (13%) ultimately required permanent CSF diversion. Clinically significant vasospasm developed in 4 patients (4%), and 2 (2%) had cerebral infarctions. Three patients (3%) died. Conclusions The authors' experience with a large series of angiogram-negative SAH patients who had an atypical nonbenign clinical course associated with hydrocephalus, vasospasm, stroke, and mortality differs significantly from previously published case series of angiogram-negative SAH.

The fine-scale movement of Mustelus mustelus in relation to environmental conditions was investigated at various temporal scales with acoustic telemetry and temperature–depth transmitters inside a coastal marine protected area in South Africa. Twenty-four sharks were equipped with acoustic tags and logged by an array of 28 acoustic receivers from November 2006 to November 2008. Generalised additive and generalised additive mixed models (GAMMs) were used to explain patterns of movement in terms of the environmental conditions related to temperature, the rate of change of temperature, tidal flow, diel cycle and moon phase. The most important environmental parameters affecting movement and direction of movement were related to absolute temperature and changes in temperature at the position of the shark. The movement of M. mustelus was not affected by tide and only minimally affected by the diel cycle, suggesting behavioural thermoregulation as the ultimate cause of the movements. M. mustelus preferred temperatures from 18 to 22°C, as determined by GAMMs for environmental conditions experienced in summer. The combination of the thermal environment, rich feeding grounds and protective effect of the Langebaan Marine Protected Area may explain the high abundance and regular occurrence of M. mustelus within this marine protected area.

Mid-frequency active sonar (MFAS), used for antisubmarine warfare (ASW), has been associated with multiple beaked whale (BW) mass stranding events. Multinational naval ASW exercises have used MFAS offshore of the Mariana Archipelago semi-annually since 2006. We report BW and MFAS acoustic activity near the islands of Saipan and Tinian from March 2010 to November 2014. Signals from Cuvier's ( Ziphius cavirostris) and Blainville's beaked whales ( Mesoplodon densirostris ), and a third unidentified BW species, were detected throughout the recording period. Both recorders documented MFAS on 21 August 2011 before two Cuvier's beaked whales stranded on 22–23 August 2011. We compared the history of known naval operations and BW strandings from the Mariana Archipelago to consider potential threats to BW populations. Eight BW stranding events between June 2006 and January 2019 each included one to three animals. Half of these strandings occurred during or within 6 days after naval activities, and this co-occurrence is highly significant. We highlight strandings of individual BWs can be associated with ASW, and emphasize the value of ongoing passive acoustic monitoring, especially for beaked whales that are difficult to visually detect at sea. We strongly recommend more visual monitoring efforts, at sea and along coastlines, for stranded cetaceans before, during and after naval exercises.

The experiment was conducted during consecutive years of 2005-06 and 2006-07 at Central Horticultural Experiment Station (Central Institute for Arid Horticulture-ICAR), Vejalpur (Godhra), Panchmahal, Gujarat to standardize time of softwood grafting in mahua (Bassia latifolia Roxb.) and khirni (Manilkara hexandra (Roxb.) Dub.) under semi-arid environment of western India. Softwood grafting was carried out at monthly interval commencing from July to June during both the years. Sprouting was found to be the earliest in March (26 days in mahua and 27.4 days in khirni). Maximum time for bud sprouting was taken in the month of September (34.00 days) and November (33.50 days) in mahua and khirni respectively. The highest percentage of graft success was also noted in March, i.e. 70.00 % in mahua and 76.66 % in khirni, it was closely followed by July, August and June. Least percentage of success was noted in the month of September and November in mahua and khirni respectively. Length of sprout was also recorded highest in March after 180 days after grafting in both the crops (28 cm in mahua and 22 cm in khirni). Similar trend was recorded in respect of number and diameter of sprouts. Softwood grafted plants of mahua had higher number of leaves than khirni grafts, whereas it was found to be highest in the month of March in both the crops. Irrespective of scion and rootstock, the maximum accumulation of nitrogen and carbohydrate content was recorded in March, while it was found in lower concentration during December, January and February. Soft wood grafting in mahua may be followed during March, April and July, while March, July and August may be the appropriate time for grafting of khirni under semi-arid environment of western India.

15125 Background: Two European randomized controlled trials comparing D1 and D2 gastrectomy revealed a high operative mortality in the D2 group. Based on these reports, D1 gastrectomy is a standard treatment for western patients. In contrast, D2 gastrectomy is considered a standard and safe procedure in Japan. Moreover, the operative morbidity/mortality and the incidence of the major surgical complications were not different between D2and extended para-aortic lymphadenectomy in a prospective randomized controlled trial in Japan. We report a retrospective study of surgical treatment for gastric cancer in our institute as a clinical hospital in Japan. Methods: Patients who underwent gastrectomy between January 1998 and November 2006 in our institute were analyzed. Survival according to the staging by Japanese Classification of Gastric Cancer, the level of the dissection of lymph nodes, and all complications were studied. Results: A total 1342 patients underwent gastrectomy between January 1998 and November 2006 in our institute. The male/female ratio was 2.2 and the mean age was 64.7±11.4 years(range,27–94 years). The 5-year survival according to the staging by Japanese Classification of Gastric Cancer was 98.4%, 84.7%, 77.2%, 46.1%, 40.2% and 33.4% in the stage IA, IB, II, IIIA, IIIB, and IV, respectively. D0, D1, D2, and D3 or D4 gastrectomy was performed in 48, 200, 610, and 27 patients, respectively. Complications were identified in 295 patients(22%) involving 2 patients with treatment death(0.01%) and anastomotic leak, surgical site infection, pancreatic fistula, ileus, anastomotic stenosis, abdominal abcess, liver dysfunction, postoperative bleeding, pneumonia , DIC , peritonitis, and others were identified in 66, 51, 42, 28, 26, 23, 21, 14, 13, 4, 3, and 4 patients, respectively. We analyzed the D0/D1 and D2/D3/D4 dissection subgroups about complications. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups (p=0.093). Conclusions: Our data suggested that gastrectomy with D2 dissection has been a safe treatment with a good prognosis in our institute. D2 gastrectomy is considered a safe treatmemt without increasing surgical complications. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

The article deals with the notion of manipulation in advertising slogans of fast food restaurants. It focuses on techniques and means of language influence on the recipient. The article shows results of the study of 239 advertising slogans of fast food restaurants in English-speaking countries (a total number of 104 companies). Different language patterns which are used in advertising slogans and aimed at persuasion of customers on the subconscious level, are defined and analyzed; among them the most numerous are language patterns which create statements with distortions, deletions, and generalizations manifesting themselves in a variety of forms. The research also describes manipulative language patterns specifically related to advertising, such as unique selling proposition or life values. The article also shows quantitative proportions of the use of each pattern, as well as patterns used by the most successful and less successful restaurants. The most frequent of the manipulative language patterns are lost performatives, mind reading, and comparisons. The techniques of life values, mind reading, and antithesis are more common in advertising slogans of top restaurants compared to less popular ones. Анотація:
This research endeavored to follow in a way the ideals of Herbert Spencer regarding value- based education. It inquired on the value or importance of values education in online instruction during this time of the pandemic. The researchers had used narrative descriptive method and strategy in analyzing the data that were collected through the digital data approach from several educators of higher and other educational institutions. Primarily, this research presented the various practices observed before, during, and after online learning, to ensure value-laden education aside from identifying the specific values needed to be promoted and intensified during this pandemic by reason of necessity and urgency like sensitivity, self-care, courage, perseverance, discipline, respect, accountability, faith, justice, peace, honesty, humility, and love. This research yielded to the importance and impact of values education to educational excellence while still in pandemic which are classified as personal character development, social and world development, and spiritual development on the account of the good nature of the value-based education, availability of much needed structures, quality of delivery, and dynamic support system. The research has been carried out in the Processing and Chemistry Laboratory of Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Payakumbuh and Post Harvest Laboratory in Bogor since July until November 2006. The research objectives was to prolong the using time of used cooking oil on food industries through applying the empty fruit bunch of palm bioadsorbent. The optimum condition of TKKS applied were 125 mm size and 5% bioadsorben from the weight of oil (Desminarti dan Rahzarni, 2004). The prolonging of cooking oil application can be done throughrefining used cooking oil so that the part of bad cooking oil can be lremoved. Statistical design used in this research was Completely Randomized Design with four treatments dan three replications. If the result was significant it will be followed by DMRT test on 5% significant level. Based on the experiment could be concluded that that four times titration could produced the oil based on SNI criterya in the relation to the water content (0.23%), peroxide value (0.82%) and free fatty acid value (0.23%) and it could also decrease Fe content from 76ppm to 22 ppm, Cu from 1.2 ppm to 0.40 ppm and Non Urea Adduct Forming (NAF) from 126 ppm to 102 ppm. The bioadsorbent sorption content on water varied from 78% to 80%; peroxide value from 14.71 to 59.80%, free fattyacid from 55.61 to 89.25%, Fe from 68.42 to 71.05%, Cu from 5% to 60% and NAF from 17.46 to 19.05%.

Cotton is essentially produced for its fibre, which is universally used as a textile raw material. Cotton is an important commodity in the world economy. A remunerative price environment for the growers is very important for increasing production. In this context the study on area, production, export, import, supply and demand and their compound growth rates as well as influence on prices of cotton were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools and Artificial Neural Network model (ANN). The results showed that, compound growth rate of exports was negative and significant with -2.41 per cent whereas, imports showed a positive and significant growth rate with10.44per cent from 2006-07 to 2021-22. The seasonal indices of cotton arrivals in Andhra Pradesh were highest in the months of January (177.54), December (153.67) and November (146.10) because of holding of previous seasons crop by traders and farmers in anticipation of higher prices. The return on rupee investment was 0.596 which is concerned to tenant farmers and return on variable costs was 0.848 which is mostly related to owner farmers. The lower seasonal indices for cotton prices were observed in the months of December (97.23) and November (101.50). The results of ANN model revealed that, neural network 9-29-1(9 input nodes, 29 hidden nodes, and 1 output) outperformed all other neural networks with lower MAPE (2.904), RMSE (140.59), MAE (90.02), and MASE (0.114) values. It was expected that demand will persist in 2022-23 harvesting season also with a price around Rs. 8269/ q.

Infections by Puccinia psidii Winter were detected on Melaleuca quinquenervia (Cav.) Blake (paperbark, tea tree) during a regular inspection of a San Diego, California nursery in November 2010 by San Diego County inspectors. Urediniospore morphology, production of bright-yellow uredinia on both upper and lower leaf surfaces, DNA sequencing, and inoculation tests confirm the identity of the pathogen. From digital image analysis, dimensions of 49 urediniospores from the paperbark rust collection were 25 (19 to 30) × 21 (18 to 23) μm, typical of uredinia of P. psidii (3). Some urediniospores also had a distinctive, unornamented “tonsure” near the base, and all pustules lacked teliospores. Both latter features are considered by some (3) as more typical of an asexual sub-taxon, Uredo rangelii Simpson, Tho., Grgur. which however, has narrower urediniospores than we report. U. rangelii is also considered less of a threat to Eucalyptus than other variants of P. psidii in the broad sense (1). The 627-bp DNA sequence of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of the paperbark rust (GenBank Accession No. JF960255) obtained by John Hanna at the USDA Forest Service, Forestry Sciences Lab, Moscow, ID using PCR and ITS1/ITS4 primers had over 99% identity with 18 GenBank sequences of P. psidii from diverse Myrtaceae, including Melaleuca, Psidium, and Eucalyptus. In January and February of 2011, inoculations of 7- to 10-cm cuttings of active terminal growth demonstrated pathogenicity to the three species of Myrtaceae that were tested: paperbark, common myrtle Myrtus communis L., and brush cherry Syzygium australe (J.C. Wendl. ex Link) B. Hyland (=Eugenia australis, =E. myrtifolia) cv. Monterey Bay. Uredinia developed within 10 days of inoculation on inoculated host cuttings. Proportions of cuttings infected for paperbark, common myrtle, and brush cherry were 5 of 7, 6 of 6, and 1 of 6, respectively; pustules were most abundant on common myrtle and least abundant (a single pustule) on brush cherry. Similarly treated control cuttings were not infected. P. psidii has previously caused severe outbreaks on paperbark in Florida (2). California interceptions and nursery detections of P. psidii are recorded in the California Department of Food and Agriculture's internal, unpublished, Pest Detection Database, have all occurred since 2003, and include Florida sources. From the Database, detections on materials shipped into California nurseries have been: brush cherry from Florida, March and April, 2004 at Valley Center, CA; allspice (Pimenta dioica (L) Merr.) from Florida, June 2005 at Gilroy, CA; and Java apple/rose apple (Syzygium samarangense [Blume] Merr. & L.M. Perry [= Eugenia javanica Lam.]) from Hawaii, 2008 at Anaheim, CA. Other California nursery infestations have been: brush cherry, April 2004, at Valley Center, CA; pohutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa Solander ex J. Gaertner), July 2007 at Bonsall, CA; and common myrtle, November 2008 at Fallbrook, CA. The rust has not been reported in California on any plants outside of nursery settings or on Eucalyptus in any setting. The current strains of P. psidii in California appear likely to remain a recurrent problem for ornamental plant and foliage crops in the myrtle family grown in some nursery settings. Through the surface temperature (SST), sea chlorophyll and ocean current data got by satellite remote sensing inversion technology, and the statistic of fishing boat in the North Pacific from 2006 to 2011, this paper analyzes the relationship of marine environment and squid fishing fisheries fluctuate in North Pacific Ocean. It is determined that the sea surface temperature scope of high squid fisheries is 10~22°C, and the appropriate temperature is 18~20°C. The chlorophyll density of squid fish is approximately 0.02~0.40mg/m3.The frequency is the highest when the chlorophyll density is between 0.08~0.24 mg/m3. GAM module analysis indicates that neon flying squid the relation of the entertainment factor and north feeding migration every June to August and South action every October to November has different features. There is a positive correlation between SST and neon flying squid catch while north feeding migration. It is a negative correlation while going south. And there is a good correspondence between the distribution of chlorophyll and the distribution of the fish catch of core fishery. Fish catch doesn`t has great change as with longitude, but it correspond well with the latitude.

I am being haunted by a dance I saw more than a year ago. Ever since it was performed as part of the Actions of Transfer: Women's Performance in the Americas conference at UCLA in November 2008, I have been reviewing it in my mind every few weeks. I am unsettled by its seeming simplicity and by the integrity and power that this simplicity conveys. Therefore I am writing not about a work I have just seen, but rather one I have been rewatching for several months. The dance, titled Woman and Water, was created and performed by Alutiiq artist Tanya Lukin Linklater. It premiered on 22 May at Visualeyez 2006, Canada's seventh annual festival of performance art, produced by Latitude 53 Contemporary Visual Culture; the festival's theme was “Domesticity,” and it was curated by founder Todd Janes in Edmonton, Alberta. When she was invited to UCLA, Lukin Linklater inquired about the availability of water near the conference where the piece might be performed, and, upon seeing the site, determined to stage the work in the plaza in front of Royce Hall, which is adjacent to a large fountain. This is what I remember watching:
