Introducción: Enfermería Nefrológica es la publicación oficial de la Sociedad Española de Enfermería Nefrológica, que cumple su 20 aniversario. El análisis de los artículos de una revista permite determinar la evolución de una publicación. Objetivo: Analizar la producción científica publicada en la revista Enfermería Nefrológica durante el periodo 1998-2017. Metodología: Estudio bibliométrico descriptivo transversal de la revista Enfermería Nefrológica, del volumen 1 al 20, mediante el software “Publish or Perish” V6. Se analizaron las siguientes variables: número total de artículos y de citas; citas por artículo, por autor, por año; artículos por autor y autores por artículo; AWCR, índice g e índice h. Se realizaron análisis por periodos de 5 años (P1 1998-2002, P2 2003-2007, P3 2008-2011, P4 2012-2017). Resultados: Se analizaron 1198 artículos: P1 n=81 (6,76%), P2 n= 160 (13,35%), P3 n=164 (13,68%), P4 n=793 (66,19%); y 2167 citaciones: P1 n=47 (2,17%), P2 n= 759 (35%), P3 n=782 (36%), P4 n=579 (26,7%). Media de autores por artículo: P1: 1,96, P2: 2,66, P3: 2,82, P4: 3. Aim. To develop diagnostic algorithm to predict the risk of community-acquired pneumonia development. Methods. 2000 patients with community-acquired pneumonia (male conscripts aged 18 to 22 years, mean age 19.2±0.19). A comparative analysis of two groups of patients to assess the algorithm for toxic shock syndrome, acute respiratory failure and acute kidney injury prediction was performed. In the comparison group (n=782, 1998 to 2003), prediction of complications was based on doctors’ personal knowledge and experience without using the prediction algorithms. In the main group (n=1218, 2003 to 2008), the established prediction algorithm was used. Results. The introduction of community-acquired pneumonia complications prediction algorithm allowed to decrease the incidence of such complications significantly. Toxic shock syndrome was diagnosed in 8.8% of patients in the comparison group and in 3.7% of patients of the main group (р 0.05), acute respiratory failure - in 43.1% of patients of the comparison group and in 19.5% of patients of the main group (р 0.05). The effectiveness of the algorithm for toxic shock syndrome prognosis was 90.8%, sensitivity - 91.8%, specificity - 89.7%, accuracy - 94.5%. The effectiveness of the algorithm for acute kidney injury prognosis was 90.7%, sensitivity - 90.7%, specificity - 90.8%, accuracy - 95.1%. Conclusion. Offered prediction algorithms can help a physician to suspect a possibility of potentially dangerous and lethal complications development in patients with community-acquired pneumonia at the early stages of the disease. It allows to adjust the treatment, to simplify the estimate for transportation need, to detect the indications for patients admission, including the admission to intensive care unit, and improve the results of treatment.

Abstract Background Studies of hospital discharge data and large observational cohorts show that the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) varies by race. We sought to determine the incidence of VTE in each of the following ethnic groups Caucasians, Africans, Asians, and Hispanics. Methods A systematic literature search strategy was used to identify potential studies in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CENTRAL using an OVID interface. The methodological quality of eligible studies was assessed according to Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale. The primary outcome measure was to identify the incidence/prevalence of VTE of each ethnic group available for the study in the context of a population based study. Results Out of 3418 potential studies, 19 met our inclusion criteria (Table). Of these, 9 studies were population based studies: 5 reported VTE incidence per 100,000 person-years (PY), 2 measured the standardized incidence ratio, and 2 European studies assessed VTE rate according to country of origin but not ethnicity (data not shown). In addition, 7 studies measured the hospital incidence rate of VTE, and 3 assessed VTE prevalence. Data could not be pooled due to marked heterogeneity including varied periods of study. VTE incidence per 100,000 PY was found to be between 162 and 439 in Caucasians, 143 and 746 in Africans, 3.2 and 16.6 in Asians. Hospital incidence of VTE per 100,000 PY was found to be between 21 and 131 in Caucasians, 22 and 155 in Africans, 2 and 26 in Asians, 33.1 and 71 in American Indians/Alaskan Indians, and 9 in Hispanics. Conclusions Our findings suggest a wide variation in reported incidence rates for VTE among different ethnic groups, even within the same group. In general, studies in Asian populations suggest a lower incidence of VTE. A marked heterogeneity of study designs, population settings prevent drawing firm conclusions. A significant risk of bias cannot be excluded for several studies. Further studies assessing concurrently the risk of VTE among different ethnicities in the same geographical area are needed. Plant Sci. 91: 773–782. Seed-propagated hybrids of Corylus avellana and C. americana are a potential crop for the Upper Midwest. Current N recommendations for hazelnuts are based on research on clonally propagated C. avellana in Oregon and may not be applicable in the Upper Midwest due to differing soils, climate, and plant genetics. We established three field plots in 2003 to test N fertilization rates on new plantings, with rates up to 33 g N plant−1 as ammonium nitrate applied annually in the spring, starting 2 wk after transplanting. We observed a strong negative linear effect of N rate on plant survival. In the second year we added trials on same-aged plants that had not previously been fertilized and found no N effect on survival. We concluded that waiting 1 yr after transplanting before fertilizing increases plant survival, but even then N requirements during establishment years are very low for hybrid hazelnuts. Standard leaf N concentrations for C. avellana in Oregon are roughly applicable to hybrid hazelnuts, except that the threshold between deficiency and sufficiency should be raised slightly to 1.9% N. The current threshold between deficient and sufficient, 2.2%, should be regarded as a target, rather than as a threshold to be exceeded.

Abstract One of major hurdles to achieving good patient outcomes and survival rates in allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) after myeloablative conditioning is the high rate of transplant-related mortality (TRM). Much progress in supportive patient care has been accomplished over the last decade-notably the use of allelic HLA-matching (Yakoub-Agha, JCO 2006), the introduction of enteral nutrition (Seguy, Transplantation 2004), the development of wireless video-capsule endoscopy for the management of post-transplant diarrhea (Yakoub-Agha, Transplantation 2005), the availability of broad-spectrum antifungal prophylaxis, the use of busulfan IV instead of PO in the conditioning regimen, limitation of the use of ATG in graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) treatment and dose reduction when the latter drug is used in conditioning. Although all these various modifications have had a positive impact on short-term patient outcomes, their impact on long-term survival is still unclear. Hence, the main objective of the present study was to evaluate allo-CST outcomes as a function of the transplantation period. A total 445 patients have undergone post-myeloablation allo-CST in our department. The patient distribution over the time was as follows: prior to 1998 (first period): n=133; between 1998 and 2003 (second period): n=154; between 2003 and 2007 (third period): n=158. Only the first transplant for a given individual was taken into account. Kaplan-Meyer curves were plotted for 100-day survival, 180-day survival and 3-year survival for each time period. Setting aside the clear differences in supportive care methods, the three groups were well matched in terms of disease diagnosis, disease status at transplant and the main recipient and donor characteristics. It is noteworthy, however, that the median age of patients increased over time. Mean 100-day survival was 86 days (95% CI: 81–90), 93 days (95% CI: 90–96) and 96 days (95% CI: 94–98) for the first, second and third periods, respectively (p<.0001). Mean 180-day survival was 137 days (95% CI: 126–147), 157 days (95% CI: 150–164) and 165 days (95% CI: 160–171) for the first, second and third periods, respectively (p<.0001). The improvement in short-term survival has translated into an improvement in long-term survival, as the mean 3-year survival was 513 days (95% CI: 437–591), 705 days (95% CI: 635–775) and 782 days (95% CI: 715–850) for the first, second and third periods, respectively (p<0.0001). Median survival was 339 days (95% CI: 145–533) for the first period but has not yet been reached for the two other periods. While we observed a significant reduction in TRM over the three periods, post-transplantation relapse is still a major complication which impacts negatively on long-term patient outcomes. In conclusion, this study highlights the positive impact of supportive care on both short-term patient outcomes and long-term survival after myeloablative allo-CST. The most recent data on myeloablative allo-CST must be taken into account before ruling out the latter as treatment option. Although supportive care will doubtless continue to progress, further research into reducing the post-transplantation relapse rate must now become a priority.

9580 Background: Patients who underwent open retropubic radical prostatectomy (ORRP) for prostate-cancer (PCA) have excellent long-term survival. Besides oncologic safety, recovery of continence and erectile function are highly important, as adverse functional outcomes may have a detrimental effect on health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We report the long-term HRQOL of PCA survivors after ORRP using standardized tools. Methods: Men treated between August 2003 and December 2007 with ORRP for localized PCA at a single academic hospital received validated questionnaires (International consultation on incontinence questionnaire (ICIQ), International index of erectile function (IIEF-5), Erection hardness score (EHS), EORTC QLQ-C30) to assess functional outcomes and HRQOL. Results were correlated with the global-health score (GHS) of the EORTC QLQ-C30 to assess the impact of ORRP on HRQOL. Results: In the study period 1936 men underwent ORRP of whom 1156 (59.7%) received a nerve-sparing (NS) procedure. Questionnaire return-rate was 59% (n=1141) comprising the final study cohort. Median follow-up (FU) was 62 months. Mean age at surgery and FU was 63.7±6.2 and 69.2±6.2 years, respectively. Biochemical recurrence (BCR) occurred in 17.5% (n=200/1141) and 2% (n=40/1936) deceased. Mean GHS in the study population was 71.5±20.8. In the ICIQ 28% (n=320) scored 0 indicating complete continence and 9.9% (n=113) scored ≥11 indicating severe incontinence. The corresponding GHS was 78.1±19.5 and 55.4±21.8, respectively. 68.5% (n=782) of patients used no pads and 17.9% (n=204) ≥2 pads. Corresponding GHS scores were 74.9±19.8 and 58.9±20.7. Using the IIEF-5 in men who received NS, 24.1% (n=154) had no erectile dysfunction versus 50% (n=318) using the EHS. Corresponding GHS scores were 82.2±16.3 and 74.7±19.8, respectively. Patients with BCR had a GHS of 66.8±21.8 versus 72.5±20.5 for patients without. Men who achieved the Trifecta and Pentafecta criteria had a GHS of 83.1±15.1 and 83.3±15, respectively. Conclusions: Incontinence severely impacts the HRQOL of long-term survivors after ORRP while erectile dysfunction and BCR have a lesser effect. Every effort should be undertaken to maintain functional integrity.

ABSTRACTBackground: Acute exposure to sedative drugs may induce memory impairment, but there is mixed evidence that long-term sedative use may result in incident cognitive decline. The objective of this study was to investigate the use of sedative drugs and incident cognitive decline in a population-based sample of persons aged 75 years and older.Methods: The study sample comprised 781 participants in the Geriatric Multidisciplinary Strategy for the Good Care of the Elderly (GeMS) study in Kuopio, Finland. Data on health status, drug use, and sociodemographic factors were elicited during annual nurse interviews from 2004 to 2007. A linear mixed model was used to compare change in Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores (2005–2007) among users of sedative drugs in 2004 and 2005 (n = 139) to non-users of sedative drugs from 2004 to 2007 (n = 310). The model was adjusted for covariates including age, gender, education, depressive symptoms and antipsychotic use.Results: Unadjusted mean MMSE scores were 27.50 in 2005, 26.58 in 2006, and 25.95 in 2007 among users of sedative drugs. Unadjusted mean MMSE scores were 28.05 in 2005, 27.61 in 2006, and 27.09 in 2007 among non-users of sedative drugs. Adjusted mean MMSE scores were 0.31 points lower in 2005, 0.62 points lower in 2006, and 0.93 lower in 2007 among users compared to non-users of sedative drugs (P = 0.051).Conclusions: Sedatives were not associated with statistically significant cognitive decline. However, clinicians should maintain a judicious approach to prescribing sedative drugs given the risk of adverse drug events.

In the last few decades, the studies in second language acquisition have not answered the question what mechanisms a human’s brain uses to make acquisition of language(s) possible. A neurocognitive model which tries to address SLA from such a perspective was suggested by Ullman (2005; 2015), according to which, “both first and second languages are acquired and processed by well-studied brain systems that are known to subserve particular nonlanguage functions” (Ullman, 2005: 141). The brain systems in question have analogous roles in their language and nonlanguage functions. This article is meant to critically analyse the suggested DP model within the context of neurocognitive studies of L2; and evaluate its contribution to the field of SLA studies. Abstract Background: The use and timing of ASCT on survival after MM in the era of modern therapy remain topics of debate. Using population based data, we evaluated factors associated with the receipt of ASCT and the effect of ASCT on overall survival (OS). Methods: Patients diagnosed with MM during 2000 - 2012 were identified in the California Cancer Registry (CCR) (n=12,714). CCR data were linked to the California Patient Discharge Database (PDD). Logistic regression estimated the odds ratio (OR) of having an early (< 1 year from diagnosis) or late (> 1 year) ASCT (vs. no ASCT). OS was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier (KM) method. To determine the effect of ASCT on OS from diagnosis date, Cox regression models estimated adjusted hazard ratios (aHR) of death treating ASCT as a time dependent covariate. OS time was compared after matching ASCT to no ASCT patients on age, sex, race/ethnicity, neighborhood socioeconomic status (SES), comorbidity at diagnosis, year of diagnosis, and accounting for time to transplant. Results: The majority of MM patients were male (54%) and of non-Hispanic white (58%) race/ethnicity; 19% Hispanic, 12% African American, and 9% Asian. Median age at diagnosis was 67 (range 18 - 104). African Americans and Hispanics were younger than non-Hispanic whites (median age 64 and 65 vs 69). Comorbidity data from the PDD was available in 59% of the patients in the 2 years prior to MM diagnosis: 7.5% had 0, 21% had 1-2, and 31% had ≥3 comorbidities. A total of 2136 (17%) patients underwent ASCT: 1347 < 1 year from and 789 ≥1 year after diagnosis. Time to ASCT did not change over time: among patients diagnosed 2000 - 2003 median time to transplant was 9.2 mo, 10 mo among those diagnosed 2004 - 2007 and 9.7 in those diagnosed 2008 - 2012. Patients who underwent ASCT were younger than those who did not (median age 56 vs 70 respectively). African Americans were less likely to undergo early ASCT (OR 0.7, P<0.001), but not late ASCT (OR 0.8, P=0.07). Patients with ≥3 comorbidities (vs. 0) at diagnosis were less likely to have ASCT (OR 0.42 P<0.001 and OR 0.28 P<0.001 for early and late, respectively), while patients with 1-2 comorbidities were less likely to have late ASCT (OR 0.59 P<0.001). The lowest 2 quintiles of SES was associated with less use of early ASCT (OR 0.62 p<0.001 and 0.65 p<0.001 respectively), but not late ASCT (OR 0.89 p=0.4 and 0.96 p=0.7 respectively). The likelihood of receiving ASCT increased over time: compared to 2000-2003, the ORs for patients diagnosed in 2004 - 2007 were 1.36 for early (P<0.001) and 1.64 (P<0.001) for late ASCT and were 2.64 (P<0.001) for early and 1.80 (P<0.001) for late for those diagnosed in 2008-2012. The median follow-up was 32 months. Median OS from diagnosis for the entire cohort, unadjusted for age, comorbidities, and SES was 37 months. Adjusting for sex, race/ethnicity, age at diagnosis, SES, comorbidities, insurance status and year of diagnosis, OS improved over time: compared to patients diagnosed in 2008 - 2012, aHR of death of those diagnosed 2000-2003 was 1.58 (P<0.001), and 1.35 (P<0.001) for those diagnosed 2004-2007. ASCT at any point was associated with a 23% reduction in the risk of death from all causes (aHR 0.77 P<0.001). Patients who received early ASCT had a 27% reduction (aHR 0.73 P<0.001), while those receiving late ASCT had an 11% decrease (aHR 0.89 P<0.001) in risk of all cause death. In the matched analysis, the median OS from date of transplant, or matched date in the no ASCT cohort, were: no ASCT = 49 mo, early ASCT = 83 mo, and late ASCT 65 mo (P<0.001 Figure 1). The effect of aSCT on OS differed by date of diagnosis (P for interaction <0.001). Improvements in OS due to ASCT were more pronounced in later time periods: aHR for early and late ASCT in 2000-2003 were 0.9 (P = 0.12) and 0.98 (P 0.86) compared with those in 2004-2007 (0.63 P<0.001 and 0.85 P = 0.06) and in 2008-2012 (0.55 P<0.001 and 0.74 P=0.08). Conclusions :ASCT was utilized in 17% of Californians with MM during 2000-2012, and its use increased over time. The use of ASCT, whether within a year of diagnosis or later in the disease course, is associated with improved OS and this effect may be more pronounced in the era of novel agents. Despite the inherent limitations of analyses of administrative databases, the large number of patients and established robust nature of CCR and PDD data makes accurate depiction of results in the community probable. Neste livro são apresentados resultados de trabalhos científicos aplicados à grande área de Engenharia. De abordagem objetiva, a obra se mostra de grande relevância para graduandos, alunos de pós-graduação, docentes e profissionais. Os capítulos estão agrupados em duas seções: i) materiais; ii) águas continentais e oceânicas. Pelo capítulo um é apresentado o desenvolvimento de uma metodologia para obter-se reprodutibilidade da área superficial de um eletrodo de estanho durante o estudo do crescimento de óxidos de estanho. A reprodutibilidade da área superficial pode ser comprovada pela reprodutibilidade das densidades de carga anódicas dos voltamogramas anódicos a 50 mVs-1 posteriores a cada tratamento. Por meio do capítulo dois é analisada a substituição de parte do carvão mineral, utilizado em siderúrgicas, por biomassa. Entre os grandes desafios do setor estão a produção de aço a preços competitivos e a substituição de parte do carvão mineral utilizado por biomassa. A biomassa é considera neutra em emissões de CO2, devido a captura do mesmo durante o processo de fotossíntese, o que a torna atraente para seu uso nos processos siderúrgicos. Além disso, o seu uso pode gerar redução de custos, principalmente se for considerado os rejeitos do agronegócio que não possuem um alto valor agregado. Neste contexto, por este capítulo serão mostradas algumas possíveis utilizações de biomassa nos processos siderúrgicos através de estudos que vem sendo realizado no tema e aplicações na indústria. Será possível notar que o uso de biomassa é uma alternativa viável a curto prazo para atender as crescentes restrições ambientais atuais. Através do capítulo três é analisado o crescimento voltamétrico de óxido de estanho em solução tampão fosfato, pH 8,7. Medidas elipsométricas ex-situ foram realizadas para determinar a espessura dos óxidos crescidos. A partir desses resultados, o volume do filme por unidade de carga, Vf, foi calculado para diferentes densidades de carga. As medidas elipsométricas mostram que filmes de óxido de estanho crescidos a 2 mVs-1 são menos densos para valores de espessura 3,37 nm, tendo Vf próximo a 1,70 x 10-4 cm3C-1. Para valores mais altos de espessura (11,0 – 12,4 nm) os filmes se tornam mais densos tendo Vf próximo a 0,5 x 10-4 cm3C-1. No caso de 100 mVs-1 os filmes apresentam o mesmo comportamento, tendo Vf próximo de 3,74 x 10-4 cm3.C-1 para espessura de 4,56 nm e Vf próximo de 1,32 x 10-4 cm3.C-1 para espessura de 7,42 nm. Imagens de Microscopia de Força Atômica mostraram que a morfologia muda e a rugosidade dos filmes aumenta com o aumento da espessura e do potencial final da voltametria. O capítulo quatro trata do Nitreto cúbico de boro (cBN), material imprescindível para usinagem com alta precisão e alta velocidade de APRESENTAÇÃO materiais ferrosos como aço. O cBN é recomendado para trabalhos sob condições severas, tais como corte intermitente, em que dureza deve estar associada com tenacidade para evitar a quebra. Na síntese do cBN, são aplicados, basicamente, dois tipos de catalisadores: nitreto de magnésio e magnésio. Cada qual oferece diferentes possibilidades, tais como maiores valores de profundidade de corte ou menor nível de rugosidade superficial. Este capítulo contribui para uma melhor compreensão da manipulação dos parâmetros aplicados no regime de síntese deste elemento e, favorecendo o desenvolvimento da tecnologia de sua produção. Por meio do capítulo cinco é avaliada a aplicação de separação magnética de alta intensidade no beneficiamento de itabiritos pobres. Na rota de processo avaliada (separação magnética + flotação), a etapa de separação magnética executa a função de pré-concentração e deslamagem. O teor de SiO2 no concentrado foi de 1,46% (menor que o teor objetivo de 2,00%). As recuperações mássica e metalúrgica obtidas com a rota separação magnética + flotação foram maiores em termos absolutos 3,3% e 4,4%, respectivamente. Através do capítulo seis é realizada a otimização de injeção de poliamida PA66 com 50% GF usando o método Taguchi. O estudo se justifica pela necessidade crescente de materiais mais leves e de maior produtividade em substituição às ligas metálicas, o que demanda o constante desenvolvimento de compósitos poliméricos e eficazes processos de fabricação. Como resposta do estudo, mediu-se a resistência máxima de tração (RTmáx), numa poliamida 66 com carga de 50% de fibra de vidro, Grivory GV-5H®. Fez-se uso da metodologia ANOVA para indentificar-se os fatores de maior significância para o processo. A melhor resistência máxima de tração obtida de 242,6 N/m2, mostrou-se como uma opção na substituição à aplicações de ligas metálicas de alumínio. A melhor resultado se obteve com a temperatura de processamento em 270°C, o fluxo volumétrico de 83 cm³/s, a pressão de recalque de 300 bar, a contrapressão de 10 bar, velocidade da rosca de 50 min-1 e o tempo de recalque com valor de 5 s. As porcentagens de contribuição encontradas foram pressão de recalque com contribuição de 61%, seguido da temperatura de processamento, com contribuição de 17% e em terceiro, o fluxo volumétrico com contribuição de 12%. A instalação de grandes equipamentos submarinos em águas profundas apresenta uma série de desafios. O capítulo sete trata da análise de estabilidade hidrodinâmica de Manifolds submarinos durante a instalação pelo método pendular. O presente capítulo racionaliza tal método e, além disso, considera sistemas para evitar o capotamento, durante um momento crítico do método que é o início da descida, apresentando uma modelagem matemática fenomenológica a partir de casos similares. A etapa de validação foi realizada pela análise comparativa entre a modelagem proposta e resultados de testes experimentais realizados com modelos físicos. Com a confirmação da aderência dos resultados numéricos com os experimentos, esta abordagem se confirma como uma ferramenta de engenharia para dimensionamento dos equipamentos submarinos instalados pelo Método Pendular para que sejam direcionalmente estáveis. Por meio do capítulo oito são apresentados os resultados da simulação da distribuição espacial das ondas geradas pela ação de ventos severos sobre o reservatório da barragem de Salto Caxias, no rio Iguaçu, estado do Paraná. Os ventos severos foram estimados através da análise de frequência regional para várias estações anemométricas do Instituto Meteorológico do Paraná (SIMEPAR) para o período de 1998 a 2005. As alturas de ondas foram estimadas pelo método paramétrico SMB, que usa como dados de entrada o fetch e a velocidade do vento. O método SMB foi aplicado pelo modelo computacional ONDACAD. Os testes estatísticos indicaram que a distribuição de Wakeby foi a mais robusta para as séries curtas de ventos horários máximos anuais, produzindo estimativas de ventos severos que variaram entre 25,7 ms-1 (tempo de retorno de Tr=10 anos) a 50,9 ms-1 (Tr=100 anos). O estudo presta grande contribuição à compreensão da quantificação das alturas de ondas geradas por ventos severos neste importante reservatório do estado do Paraná. Pelo capítulo nove é apresentada uma análise comparativa bidimensional entre alturas de ondas resultantes da aplicação dos modelos paramétricos MARQUES e JONSWAP ao reservatório da Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu Binacional, localizado no Rio Paraná entre o Brasil e o Paraguai. Os campos de vento uniforme relacionados a períodos de recorrência de 10, 20, 50 e 100 anos foram obtidos pelos registros realizados pelo Sistema Meteorológico do Paraná (SIMEPAR). Através da utilização do modelo ONDACAD foram determinados os campos de fetch e a transformação em campos de ondas pela utilização dos modelos paramétricos MARQUES e JONSWAP. Ao proceder a análise constatou-se que, ao majorar os resultados do modelo JONSWAP em 78% chega-se aos resultados bidimensionais gerados pelo modelo Marques. Esta condição foi verificada para situações de ventos extremos, ou seja, superiores a 20ms-1 e corpos hídricos que possuem fetch máximo da ordem de 10 quilômetros. O estudo contribui para a compreensão da distribuição das magnitudes das alturas de ondas neste reservatório de grande importância no âmbito da América do Sul, de grande utilidade para estudos relacionados, por exemplo, a erosões marginais, ecossistemas aquáticos continentais, psicultura por tanques-rede, quantificação de gases de efeito estufa devido à ressuspensão de sedimentos devido a propagação de ondas.

Neste contexto, por este capítulo serão mostradas algumas possíveis utilizações de biomassa nos processos siderúrgicos através de estudos que vem sendo realizado no tema e aplicações na indústria. Será possível notar que o uso de biomassa é uma alternativa viável a curto prazo para atender as crescentes restrições ambientais atuais. Através do capítulo três é analisado o crescimento voltamétrico de óxido de estanho em solução tampão fosfato, pH 8,7. Medidas elipsométricas ex-situ foram realizadas para determinar a espessura dos óxidos crescidos. A partir desses resultados, o volume do filme por unidade de carga, Vf, foi calculado para diferentes densidades de carga. As medidas elipsométricas mostram que filmes de óxido de estanho crescidos a 2 mVs-1 são menos densos para valores de espessura 3,37 nm, tendo Vf próximo a 1,70 x 10-4 cm3C-1. Para valores mais altos de espessura (11,0 – 12,4 nm) os filmes se tornam mais densos tendo Vf próximo a 0,5 x 10-4 cm3C-1. No caso de 100 mVs-1 os filmes apresentam o mesmo comportamento, tendo Vf próximo de 3,74 x 10-4 cm3.C-1 para espessura de 4,56 nm e Vf próximo de 1,32 x 10-4 cm3.C-1 para espessura de 7,42 nm. Imagens de Microscopia de Força Atômica mostraram que a morfologia muda e a rugosidade dos filmes aumenta com o aumento da espessura e do potencial final da voltametria. O capítulo quatro trata do Nitreto cúbico de boro (cBN), material imprescindível para usinagem com alta precisão e alta velocidade de APRESENTAÇÃO materiais ferrosos como aço. O cBN é recomendado para trabalhos sob condições severas, tais como corte intermitente, em que dureza deve estar associada com tenacidade para evitar a quebra. Na síntese do cBN, são aplicados, basicamente, dois tipos de catalisadores: nitreto de magnésio e magnésio. Cada qual oferece diferentes possibilidades, tais como maiores valores de profundidade de corte ou menor nível de rugosidade superficial. Este capítulo contribui para uma melhor compreensão da manipulação dos parâmetros aplicados no regime de síntese deste elemento e, favorecendo o desenvolvimento da tecnologia de sua produção. Por meio do capítulo cinco é avaliada a aplicação de separação magnética de alta intensidade no beneficiamento de itabiritos pobres. Na rota de processo avaliada (separação magnética + flotação), a etapa de separação magnética executa a função de pré-concentração e deslamagem. O teor de SiO2 no concentrado foi de 1,46% (menor que o teor objetivo de 2,00%). As recuperações mássica e metalúrgica obtidas com a rota separação magnética + flotação foram maiores em termos absolutos 3,3% e 4,4%, respectivamente. Através do capítulo seis é realizada a otimização de injeção de poliamida PA66 com 50% GF usando o método Taguchi. O estudo se justifica pela necessidade crescente de materiais mais leves e de maior produtividade em substituição às ligas metálicas, o que demanda o constante desenvolvimento de compósitos poliméricos e eficazes processos de fabricação. Como resposta do estudo, mediu-se a resistência máxima de tração (RTmáx), numa poliamida 66 com carga de 50% de fibra de vidro, Grivory GV-5H®. Fez-se uso da metodologia ANOVA para indentificar-se os fatores de maior significância para o processo. A melhor resistência máxima de tração obtida de 242,6 N/m2, mostrou-se como uma opção na substituição à aplicações de ligas metálicas de alumínio. A melhor resultado se obteve com a temperatura de processamento em 270°C, o fluxo volumétrico de 83 cm³/s, a pressão de recalque de 300 bar, a contrapressão de 10 bar, velocidade da rosca de 50 min-1 e o tempo de recalque com valor de 5 s. As porcentagens de contribuição encontradas foram pressão de recalque com contribuição de 61%, seguido da temperatura de processamento, com contribuição de 17% e em terceiro, o fluxo volumétrico com contribuição de 12%. A instalação de grandes equipamentos submarinos em águas profundas apresenta uma série de desafios. O capítulo sete trata da análise de estabilidade hidrodinâmica de Manifolds submarinos durante a instalação pelo método pendular. O presente capítulo racionaliza tal método e, além disso, considera sistemas para evitar o capotamento, durante um momento crítico do método que é o início da descida, apresentando uma modelagem matemática fenomenológica a partir de casos similares. A etapa de validação foi realizada pela análise comparativa entre a modelagem proposta e resultados de testes experimentais realizados com modelos físicos. Com a confirmação da aderência dos resultados numéricos com os experimentos, esta abordagem se confirma como uma ferramenta de engenharia para dimensionamento dos equipamentos submarinos instalados pelo Método Pendular para que sejam direcionalmente estáveis. Por meio do capítulo oito são apresentados os resultados da simulação da distribuição espacial das ondas geradas pela ação de ventos severos sobre o reservatório da barragem de Salto Caxias, no rio Iguaçu, estado do Paraná. Os ventos severos foram estimados através da análise de frequência regional para várias estações anemométricas do Instituto Meteorológico do Paraná (SIMEPAR) para o período de 1998 a 2005. As alturas de ondas foram estimadas pelo método paramétrico SMB, que usa como dados de entrada o fetch e a velocidade do vento. O método SMB foi aplicado pelo modelo computacional ONDACAD. Os testes estatísticos indicaram que a distribuição de Wakeby foi a mais robusta para as séries curtas de ventos horários máximos anuais, produzindo estimativas de ventos severos que variaram entre 25,7 ms-1 (tempo de retorno de Tr=10 anos) a 50,9 ms-1 (Tr=100 anos). O estudo presta grande contribuição à compreensão da quantificação das alturas de ondas geradas por ventos severos neste importante reservatório do estado do Paraná. Pelo capítulo nove é apresentada uma análise comparativa bidimensional entre alturas de ondas resultantes da aplicação dos modelos paramétricos MARQUES e JONSWAP ao reservatório da Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu Binacional, localizado no Rio Paraná entre o Brasil e o Paraguai. Os campos de vento uniforme relacionados a períodos de recorrência de 10, 20, 50 e 100 anos foram obtidos pelos registros realizados pelo Sistema Meteorológico do Paraná (SIMEPAR). Através da utilização do modelo ONDACAD foram determinados os campos de fetch e a transformação em campos de ondas pela utilização dos modelos paramétricos MARQUES e JONSWAP. Ao proceder a análise constatou-se que, ao majorar os resultados do modelo JONSWAP em 78% chega-se aos resultados bidimensionais gerados pelo modelo Marques. Esta condição foi verificada para situações de ventos extremos, ou seja, superiores a 20ms-1 e corpos hídricos que possuem fetch máximo da ordem de 10 quilômetros. O estudo contribui para a compreensão da distribuição das magnitudes das alturas de ondas neste reservatório de grande importância no âmbito da América do Sul, de grande utilidade para estudos relacionados, por exemplo, a erosões marginais, ecossistemas aquáticos continentais, psicultura por tanques-rede, quantificação de gases de efeito estufa devido à ressuspensão de sedimentos devido a propagação de ondas.

AbstractSince 2013, Indigenous higher degree by research (HDR) students have had an opportunity to participate in capacity-building workshops conducted by the National Indigenous Research and Knowledges Network (NIRAKN). The workshops included basic information about completing a research degree, including how to navigate academia, how to read and write critically and an introduction to Indigenous research methodologies. In this chapter, an overview of what NIRAKN set out to achieve and what has been accomplished is discussed. Evaluation forms completed by Indigenous HDR students (n = 78) who attended capacity-building workshops were analysed to understand what students found to be beneficial when participating in NIRAKN events. Here, we share the findings and offer insights into ways higher education institutions can support Indigenous HDR students in the successful completion of their degrees.

AbstractSince 1978 and the initial French data protection law (Loi n°78-17 du 6 Janvier 1978), consecutive modifications regarding the protection of personal health data, especially in 2004, 2016 and 2018, set up a strict legal regime for processing sensitive personal data, including for research purposes. In recent years, French law has evolved proactively and in parallel with the work of the European Union (EU) on the preparation of what became the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which has been in force since May 2018. This Chapter performs a state-of-art analysis (as of 1 July 2019) of the French legal framework for research biobanks and data protection rules applying to biobanking, in particular those related to data subjects’ rights and Article 89 of the GDPR. Firstly, it provides updated information about the national landscape of active research biobanks in France (Sect. 1). Secondly, it explores how the French law embodies the developments brought by the GDPR and how it envisages individuals’ rights in the context of research biobanking (Sects. 2 and 3). Thirdly, this Chapter analyses existing and potential national exemptions to individuals’ rights, including with regard to Article 89 GDPR, and how France conceives of processing activities of ‘public interest’ (Sect. 4). Finally, the authors address ongoing debates around bioethics law in France and argue for the creation of a specific Act focused on biobanking as a means of integrating, clarifying and developing not only data protection rules but also other activities related to samples, human or not, in a unique, operational and compact act (Sect. 5).

AbstractAllogeneic stem cell transplantation was successfully performed in 1968, and its use has grown significantly over the past five decades with the total number now exceeding 1.5 million patients (Niederwieser et al. Haematologica. 107:1045–1053, 2022). HSCT is a curative treatment for many haematological cancers and other disorders. Almost 40,000 HSCT procedures are performed Europe-wide per annum (Passweg et al. Bone Marrow Transplant. 51(6):786–92, 2016), and the number of transplant recipients achieving ‘long-term survival’ and with late effects directly related to their treatment (Majhail et al. Hematol Oncol Stem Cell Ther 5(1):1–30, 2012) is increasing (Penack et al. Blood Adv 4:6283–6290, 2020). This growth in survivors is the result of improvements in transplant knowledge and expertise, refinements to conditioning regimes, developments in supportive care and increased numbers of procedures due to broadening transplant indications.The most common cause of death after transplant is relapsed disease. Yet, even without disease relapse, long-term survival is complex for many as other causes of mortality such as graft versus host disease (GvHD), infection, second malignancy, respiratory disease and cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Savani et al. Blood. 117:3002–9, 2011) prove difficult to address.Recovery post-HSCT is challenging, lasting several months to years. These individuals are susceptible to the development of post-treatment physical and psychological sequelae years to decades after completion of treatment leading to a reduced life expectancy with greater morbidity when compared to an age-adjusted population (Socié et al. N Engl J Med 341:14–21, 1999). Survivors with late effects experience significantly poorer physical and mental health, report more unmet needs for care and have significantly greater use of health services compared with survivors without late effects (Treanor et al. Psychooncology 22(11):2428–2435, 2013).Furthermore, as the number of survivors continues to grow, their long-term health problems and subsequent needs demand increasing resource and attention from late effects services. These services must remain agile and responsive, develop capacity to provide continuing expertise and oversight and collaborate with the other specialist services for input when needed.The unpredictable, complex and multifactorial nature of these long-term and late effects in HSCT survivors means that patients require regular life-long assessment guided by rigorous protocols. However, it is important to remember that even using standardised protocols, these should be different for adults and children and the resulting care must be tailored to the needs of the individual. And finally, further consideration is needed for the growing number of young people and adult survivors in long-term follow-up who have been treated in childhood and transitioned into adult long-term follow-up care.

It was found that the SSTA absolute minimum has occurred in Tumaco (-3.93°C) in March 2009, in Gorgona (-3.71°C) in October 2007, in Solano Bay (-4.23°C) in April 2014 and Malpelo (-4.21°C) in December 2005. The SSTA absolute maximum was observed in Tumaco (3.45°C) in January 2002, in Gorgona (5.01°C) in July 1978, in Solano Bay (5.27°C) in March 1998 and Malpelo (3.64°C) in July 2015. A high correlation between SST and ONI in large part of study period, followed by a good correlation with PDO, was identified. The AO and SSTA have showed an inverse relationship in some periods. Solar Cycle has showed to be a modulator of behavior of SSTA in the selected stations. It was determined that extreme values of SST are related to the analyzed large scale oscillations.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Paneurhythmy is a unique Bulgarian and European recreational physical activity, appropriate for a proactive approach in maintaining and improving health. The aim of the present study is to find out if there are changes in the affective balance and the feeling of happiness with adults practicing Paneurhythmy. Method: The subjects (n=155) of the experimental study were adults (18-69 years old), divided into two groups: an experimental group (EG, n=77, mean age 41.7), participating in a course of Paneurhythmy, and a control group (CG, n=78, mean age 41.8). Paneurhythmy courses were held indoors in the evening during the autumn-winter season. The experimental group subjects conducted an average of 22 Paneurhythmy lessons (SD 7.23). The following questionnaires were used to measure the effect of the experiment: 1) Fordyce Emotions Questionnaire (FEQ) – Fordyce, 1988, Bulgarian adaptation by Zsheliaskova-Koynova & Ianovska (2008). 2) PANAS (Watson, Clark & Tellegen, 1988), Bulgarian version by Yordanova (2006). Results: Comparing the results of the EG and the CG, we found the following significant differences: higher positive emotions (t152=2.67, p=.008), lower negative emotions (t152=2.15, p=.033) and stronger feeling of happiness (t146=2.65, p=.009) with the EG after the Paneurhythmy training period. No changes were found in the CG for the same period. Conclusions: Paneurhythmy training significantly improved the affective balance and the feeling of happiness in adults who trained indoors during the autumn-winter season.

Brazil has seen an increase in the elderly population as a result of falling mortality rates. Associated with the ageing process, there is an increased risk of developing comorbidities, which is why the health system has found it difficult to keep up with the rapid demographic transition and support this more fragile section of the population. The aim of this study was to describe the epidemiological aspects of hospitalization of the elderly in Brazil. This is a retrospective epidemiological study, with a quantitative approach, which used data from the Hospital Information System and the Unified Health System, made available by the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System, for the period 2019 to 2023. The variables analyzed were: type of care, gender, race, reason for hospitalization, cause of death and region with the highest incidence. 16,779,162 elderly people were admitted to hospital units: 78% (n= 16,069,729) were admitted as emergencies. Of these individuals, 51% (n= 8,595,199) were male and 41% (n= 6,892,500) were white. Initially, 21% (n= 3,485,803) were hospitalized for diseases related to the circulatory system, but the main cause of death was pneumonia, which accounted for 7% (n= 1,195,048) of these patients, and was most prevalent in the southeast region with 508,696 deaths. Hospitalizations of the elderly in Brazil are on the increase, considering epidemiological characteristics, a reduction in the number of investments in the elderly and the number of deaths. The main related diseases are those affecting the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, accounting for almost half of the deaths in this age group. The increase in the number of hospitalizations demonstrates the need to formulate public policies to improve the quality of life of the elderly population.

OBJETIVOS: Explorar la salud mental de los hombres y mujeres que hacen uso sexualizado de drogas (Chemsex) MATERIAL Y METODOS : Participantes: 1.181 personas entre 18 y 78 años (edad media = 24,47, DE = 7,47). (n = 795, 67%) mujeres, (n = 382, 32%) hombres, y (n = 4, <1%) no binarias. Medidas: Subescalas de depresión y ansiedad del Inventario Breve de Síntomas (BSI; Derogatis &Fitzpatrick, 2004). Procedimiento Encuesta transversal anónima autoadministrada en línea de febrero a mayo de 2021, con 2.293 visitas. La tasa de respuesta fue del 51,50% (N = 1181). Se invitó a participar a mujeres y hombres heterosexuales con edad igual o superior a 18 años. Criterios de inclusión : tener mínimo 18 años; ser hombre, mujer o persona no binaria heterosexual sexualmente activa; y haber residido la mayor parte de los últimos 24 meses en el territorio español. RESULTADOS Analizamos si el UDS se asocia a los resultados de salud mental (síntomas de depresión y ansiedad). Aquellos participantes que consumían drogas con fines sexuales presentaron puntuaciones significativamente más altas en depresión que aquellos que no consumían. La ansiedad de los participantes no difirió significativamente con respecto a involucrarse o no en el USD. No hubo diferencias significativas entre mujeres y varones que practican USD en depresión o ansiedad CONCLUSIONES: Este es uno de los primeros estudios en analizar el USD entre mujeres y varones heterosexuales. ‣ El USD en personas heterosexuales está significativamente relacionado con síntomas de depresión. ‣ Resulta necesario diseñar programas de identificación, educación y prevención específicos que reduzcan la incidencia de las consecuencias más indeseables del USD tanto en hombres como en mujeres, independientemente de su orientación sexual. Asimismo, promover un abordaje centrado en las necesidades de salud mental de los que hacen USD.

Objective: We analyzed the accessibility of a virtual program developed for women with advanced cancer undergoing chemotherapy treatment by the Unified Health System. We ranked the benefits of participating in the program according to the patient’s experience. Methodology: A longitudinal study of quantitative and qualitative was carried out with 78 women diagnosed with locally advanced and/or metastatic breast and gynecological cancer. All participants used the Comfort Program for at least one chemotherapy cycle over the 6 months of the study. We carried out a semi-structured interview to absorb the experience throughout the participation in the program. Data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics, using Student’s t-test and Pearson’s correlation test. Qualitative analysis was performed by two independent evaluators using Bardin’s content analysis method. Results: There was no correlation between the frequency of participation in the program and social factors (age, education level, and income). Most of the participants reported more about their symptoms to the oncologists (70.4%; N 57), the oncologists encouraged their participation in the program and helped with the reported symptoms (60%; N 52), and 91% (N 75) of the patients denied difficulties with understanding of the guidelines offered throughout the participation. The program was classified according to three categories: practicality with the use of the Internet, welcoming space, and ease of reaching help/referrals. The difficulties were related to physical discomfort, forgetfulness, and the unavailability of the internet. Conclusion: In another study, we found benefits of using the Comfort Program in the management of symptoms during chemotherapy. In this study, in addition to numbers, patients brought their own perception of the program and we identified that it is an accessible strategy, facilitating communication between patients and care providers. Regardless of the frequency of participation, women showed greater attention to discomfort, which may suggest greater tolerance to chemotherapy treatment.

ABSTRACT Understanding the stress state in the Cornell University Borehole Observatory (CUBO) and its relation to the orientation of main fracture clusters is significant for building reservoir models and designing stimulation plans in the proposed geothermal project. Natural fracture orientations obtained using resistivity and acoustic image logs were reported previously. Among surveys and tests carried out in CUBO, the most relevant for stress analysis are four-arm caliper surveys, hydraulic fracturing stress tests, and repeated borehole acoustic and micro-resistivity image logs. The results reveal that the orientation of the main stresses vary between N 38 °E and N 50 °E. The likelihood of observed fractures slipping under current stress conditions was analyzed using 3D Mohr diagram for critically stressed fractures. The analysis shows that the regional fracture systems are primarily oriented in directions similar to the maximum horizontal stress and that the fractures are not critically stressed in the current state. Preliminary magnitude interpretations suggest a strike-slip geological regime at target depths. INTRODUCTION Cornell University aspires to utilize geothermal energy for heating its Ithaca NY campus. The primary objective for an exploration well drilled in 2022 was to provide critical data for decision-making regarding the potential Cornell geothermal system (Jordan et al., 2020; Tester et al., 2023). The exploration well, Cornell University Borehole Observatory (CUBO), was drilled to a depth of 3 km (T.D. = 9790.5 ft.) and was completed in five sections: a 36-inch conductor section with 30-inch casing to 110 feet; a 26-inch surface section with 20-inch casing to 789 feet; a 17.5-inch first intermediate section with 13.375-inch casing to 4,256 feet; a 12.5-inch second intermediate section with 9.625-inch hung liner to 7,809 feet; and an 8.5-inch open hole section to 9,790 feet. Stress field interpretation is a critical parameter in reservoir engineering for Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) like Cornell's anticipated "Earth Source Heat" (ESH) system. A clear comprehension of the magnitude and orientation of in-situ stress is essential to address several engineering challenges in the geothermal development stage: the stabilities and trajectories of deep development wells, the orientation in which hydraulic fractures propagate, the injection pressure required to activate stimulation, and to mitigate the risk of induced seismicity in the area (Min et al., 2020).The preliminary findings from CUBO, which include whole borehole hydraulic tests, microfrac tests, and geophysical logs, reveal that the potential geothermal reservoir has low natural permeability (Fulcher et al., 2023; Clairmont and Fulton, 2023). In order to increase permeability during subsequent stages of ESH development, reservoir stimulation may be necessary. Therefore, the interpretation of the in-situ stress is pertinent to direct the next phase of ESH, developing a doublet to produce geothermal heat for direct use in the university's district heating system.

Automated vehicles offer the opportunity to disengage from the driving task, though in SAE Level 3 vehicles a Take-Over Request (TOR) can occur at any time. In this case, the driver must quickly assess the situation and completely take over the driving task. In order for the driver to be able to do this safely, the rapid development of sufficient situational awareness is of particular importance. To investigate how this can be supported, it is necessary to find a sufficiently accurate method for measuring situational awareness in the context of automated driving. The Situation Awareness Global Assessment Technique (SAGAT) provides an objective, direct method for measuring all three levels of situation awareness. However, in previous applications of the method, the relevance of the information measured by the SAGAT method was not taken into account. The aim of this paper is therefore to first identify suitable SAGAT questions by means of a literature review and then to assess the relevance of the information asked for the safe takeover of vehicle control by an online questionnaire (n = 78). Subsequently, a study in a driving simulator (n = 32) will test whether a weighted evaluation of the SAGAT questions according to the classification by the online questionnaire can further optimize the method for measuring situation awareness.

Introducción: El alto flujo migratorio de personas procedentes del exterior implica mayor riesgo de propagación de SARS CoV2 en el territorio nacional. En Colombia desde marzo de 2020 a 31 de octubre de 2021 se han confirmado 67 787 casos en población extranjera. El objetivo es caracterizar epidemiológicamente la población extranjera de SARS CoV2 en el Sistema de Vigilancia de Salud Pública (Sivigila) desde marzo de 2020 a octubre de 2021. Materiales y métodos: estudio transversal observacional, con fuente primaria de datos de Sivigila desde marzo 2020 a octubre de 2021. Se calcularon medidas de tendencia central y dispersión, media y desviación estándar de las variables cuantitativas y proporciones para variables cualitativas. Se realizó análisis univariado y bivariado, se estimó razón de momios entre antecedentes, comorbilidades, edad y sexo, considerando estadísticamente significativos los valores p <0,05. Se realizó análisis espacial para identificar entidades territoriales de riesgo y procedencia de los casos importados. Resultados: se identificaron 67 893 casos de COVID 19 de población extranjera captada por la variable nacionalidad en el Sivigila. El promedio de edad fue de 35,8 ±15,8 (Me=33), la edad mínima fue de 0 años y la máxima 114 años. La variabilidad fue heterogénea (CV=42,81 %). El sexo predominante fue el masculino con el 51,9 % (n=35 203), femenino con 48,1 % (n=32 690). La ciudad con más casos corresponde a Bogotá con el 49,8 % de los casos (n=33 868), seguido del departamento de Antioquia con el 19,73 % (n=13.398), Valle del Cauca con el 5,64 % (n=3827) y Norte de Santander con 3,89 % (n=2640), El distrito de Barranquilla con 3,09 % (n=2098). Conclusión: en la población extranjera el número de casos es mayor en hombres, con una edad entre 30 a 39 años y 20 a 29 años. Se identificó que las muertes tienen una asociación con las comorbilidades de VIH y ser fumador. Se recomienda continuar con el seguimiento de esta población con el fin de identificar características demográficas de mayor vulnerabilidad y áreas de mayor afluencia para focalizar acciones de mitigación y control.
