ResumoO estudo verificou através do Report List GRI desde sua publicação em 1999 até 2018, o nível de evolução destes relatórios de sustentabilidade da Global Reporting Initiative nas empresas do Brasil e do mundo. A GRI tem suas bases de relatórios na quarta geração do modelo, GRI-G4, o que mostra um empenho na melhoria contínua dos indicadores e sua adoção por diferentes países. Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica e uso de dados secundários. A pesquisa mostrou que houve evolução na aplicação dos relatórios. Confirmando a consolidação e a legitimação da metodologia da GRI de divulgação de relatórios de sustentabilidade. As Diretrizes da GRI G4 representam um código de conduta e um padrão de desempenho, vistos com materialidade, evidenciado nas 3235 empresas que usam esse nível no mundo, dos quais 6% são empresas brasileiras, propiciando assim maior credibilidade das informações socioambientais aos seus stakeholders. AbstractThe objective of the article is to verify the level of adoption and evolution of sustainability reports of the Global Reporting Initiative - GRI in companies. GRI has its reporting bases in the fourth generation of the GRI-G4 model, which shows a commitment to the continuous improvement of indicators and their adoption by different countries. The methodology used was qualitative, through a bibliographical survey and secondary data. As a tool for analysis, the GRI Report List was adopted since its publication in 1999 until 2018. The analysis showed a significant evolution in the adoption of the GRI model by companies in the three levels, world, Brazil and Corporate Sustainability Index. The survey results show the ongoing evolution of the reports, in search of the most improved level of sustainability report, and with significant adoption in Brazil, which legitimizes the Global Reporting Initiative's sustainability reporting model.

Background & Aims: To document changes in the educational infrastructure of anatomy in Scotland over the past 20 years. To investigate the possible impact of the GMC 1993 recommendations and assess the preparedness of Scottish anatomy to meet the implications of the proposed amendment to the 1984 Anatomy Act. Results: Over the past 20 years in Scotland, the total number of teaching staff in anatomy (full time, part time and honorary) has decreased by over 24%, full time teaching staff numbers have decreased by more than 33% and the number of clinical demonstrators by more than 70%. However, medical student intake has risen by 38% and the overall student number experiencing anatomical teaching (medicine, science and dentistry) has more than doubled, resulting in a current average staff:student ratio of 1:58. Anatomy contact hours between staff and medical students have decreased by just over 60% in the last 20 years. Conclusions: In the last 20 years, contact hours and staffing levels have decreased substantially in Scotland whilst student numbers (medical, science and dental) have increased significantly. On average the anatomical input to the medical curriculum decreased by 28% between 1983 and 1993 but post the CMC initiative, there was a further decrease of 43% resulting in current medical students in Scotland experiencing a 60% reduction in contact anatomy time compared to their peers in the early 1980's. The decline in anatomical infrastructure is not a reassuring indicator of its ability to meet substantial future demands.

Abstract This retrospective observational study describes the first 20 months of implementing the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decisions Initiative. We examined patient and facility characteristics associated with life sustaining treatment (LST) orders template completion, including the association between template completion and the Care Assessment Need (CAN) score, which quantifies Veterans’ risk of hospitalization and mortality. As of February 29, 2020, over 274,200 Veterans received at least one goal of care conversation and LST preferences documented on a template. Eighty-two percent of deceased Veterans with the highest risk of hospitalization or mortality had an LST note and order documented prior to their death. Factors that predicted a greater likelihood of LST template completion included higher CAN score, older age, nursing home stay, and being white non-Hispanic. Findings suggest that clinicians are engaging older, sicker veterans in goals of care conversations. Research is needed to understand potential disparities in LST template completion.

The recent two-decade-long march of “global China” – manifested as outward flows of investment, loans, infrastructure, migrants, media, cultural programmes and international and civil society engagement – has left sweeping but variegated footprints in many parts of the world. From “going out,” officially announced in the year 2000, to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Made in China 2025, and from the developing world to advanced industrialized democracies, state-endorsed campaigns are but tips of a much more momentous iceberg. Numerous Chinese citizens and private corporations have also participated in a global search for employment, business, investment and educational and emigration opportunities. International reactions to the increasingly ubiquitous presence of China and the Chinese people in almost every corner of the world have evolved from a mixture of anxiety and hope to a more explicitly critical backlash. Terms such as “sharp power,” “debt-trap diplomacy” and the “new Cold War” bespeak the West's dominant perception today of China as a threat to be contained.

Purpose The Student Equity & Inclusion Workgroup is a student-led initiative at The University of Kansas that aims to advance equity and inclusion. Within this structure, the workgroup is entirely student-led and independent of any institutional initiatives. It has developed three themes— recognizing minority student leadership, ensuring equitable access to opportunities, and meaningfully supporting students—and used those themes to develop comprehensive programming in research, institutional advocacy, mentorship, and fellowship. Research initiatives included creating research opportunities for minority students by developing independent research projects. Institutional advocacy initiatives focused on policy change and developing a uniquely situated network of allies at and beyond the university. Mentorship centered student-to-student transmission of knowledge, skills, and support. Fellowship entailed creating opportunities for community building and recognition of minority student excellence. Conclusions Student-led initiatives such as those of the workgroup may be an effective way of supporting minority students in communication sciences and disorders. Institutions endeavoring to advance equity and inclusion should consider empowering students through facilitation of self-directed development, using institutional supports to support minority students on their terms, and recognizing students as capable partners in rethinking equity and inclusion.

Nach dem Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs gewann die Bach-Bewegung f?r den Protestantismus eine zentrale Bedeutung, zumal sich Leipzig als richtungsweisendes Zentrum profilierte und mit der ??ra Straube-Ramin? eine ?Leipziger Schule? ausbildete. Obwohl Straube und Ramin nicht selbst komponierten, war insbesondere ihr Wirken am Konservatorium der Musik zu Leipzig wesentlich f?r die Bildung der ?Leipziger Schule? als Erneuerungsbewegung evangelischer Kirchenmusik. Анотація:

Reading the title of this editorial, many might think that Contemporary Military Challenges have not been published for so many years, and that before there was another publication, entitled Bulletin of the Slovenian Armed Forces. In a way, this is, of course, true. Nevertheless, this year indeed marks 20 years since the General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces began to publish its own publication, at the time called the Bulletin of the Slovenian Armed Forces. Its purpose was to inform the internal and external public about the novelties in the fields of security, defence and the military or better armed forces. Normally, in NATO and EU member states, professional and scientific defence-related works are published by ministries of defence, or research institutes within the ministries, which issue publications on defence-strategy related topics. General Staffs, however, publish their own publications, which are typically intended for military professionals. Educational organizational units usually issue publications intended for the publication of graduation thesis of students at various levels of military education, while military museums or related units are responsible for the development of topics relating to military history. Following this concept, the publication Vojstvo (Armed Forces) was published between 1996 and 2000 by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia. The General Staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces first published the Bulletin of the Slovenian Armed Forces in 1999. The date written in the first issue is September 1999; however, according to the co-workers who contributed to this success, the first issue was in fact printed in November 1999. In addition to the Contemporary Military Challenges, two other periodicals are being published in the Slovenian Armed Forces, namely, Vojaškošolski zbornik (Military Schools Bulletin), issued by the Military Schools Centre, and Vojaška zgodovina (Military History) issued by the Military Museum, which also forms a part of the Military School Centre. The gap, which occurred after Vojstvo was no longer published, was gradually filled by the Bulletin of the Slovenian Armed Forces, later the Modern Military Challenges, which publishes scientific and professional articles by Slovenian and foreign authors. The name of the publication was changed upon the advice of Editorial Board members on the grounds that the name “bulletin” did not reflect the contents or the subject field of the publication. In the dictionary of standard Slovene, the Slovene equivalent for “bulletin” is defined as a short official message to the public, a note, an informative periodical or newsletter. Consequently, the editorial board undertook the demanding task of finding a new name for the publication and found the name Contemporary Military Challenges. Much work and effort have been invested in the production of a military publication. The majority of those who contributed to this effort were engaged primarily on their own initiative, in private time. Writing articles according to international standards requires order, effort and discipline. Many gave up before they even started to write and, the authors who did write articles for this military publication, in most cases, departed from the average further down their careers. The authors were numerous. Sixty people have been members of the editorial board between the beginning of the publication and the end of 2018. Since 2008, when peer review was introduced, 279 authors have contributed their articles, many of them repeatedly. The one especially standing out is a Slovenian Armed Forces Major who has written 10 articles. The list of all referees includes 103 names. The referee who has contributed the largest number of reviews is a Brigadier General with 54 reviews. There are also 18 referees who have contributed more than ten reviews. The long years of effort have been fruitful and resulted in a fact that, in 2010, the Slovenian Armed Forces publication was indexed in the PAIS International database within Proquest. Consequently, it was included in the list of the journals of the Slovenian Research Agency. For the publication of articles in the Contemporary Military Challenges, the authors are therefore granted 30 academic points. There have been and still are individuals who have contributed more, better and with more motivation, but everyone deserves credit for the success of the publication. In the wake of the recent global crisis, the international community is giving an increased focus on stability of the financial system. With the increasing need for data sets to undertake this analysis, the question naturally arises as to what types of data are needed? While various data initiatives are underway, two initiatives at the forefront are: (1) the International Monetary Fund/Financial Stability Board Group of Twenty (IMF/FSB G-20) Data Gaps Initiative (DGI) which is endorsed by the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors as well as the IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee and (2) the new Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) Plus, aimed particularly at economies with systemically important financial sectors. This paper explains the relevance of the DGI for financial stability analysis and the close link with the SDDS Plus.

Todo cambio de régimen en un Estado viene acompañado por trascendentes variaciones y modificaciones en el ceremonial, el protocolo, los símbolos, en la configuración y ejecución de actos, pero la naturaleza de estos últimos sigue considerándose como un instrumento esencial de legitimación y proclamación y del nuevo sistema político. Ya provenga el planteamiento de los mismos desde la propia actividad legislativa, de la iniciativa del gobierno o desde la plasmación de ideas populares o proyectos privados de gran repercusión pública y mediática, estos actos simbolizan el momento histórico en los que se ejecutan, convirtiéndose en vía de expresión directa de legitimidad y autoridad del sistema político que inicia su andadura sustituyendo al anterior. El presente estudio analiza el acto de inauguración del Panteón Nacional celebrado el 20 de junio de 1869, acto que será uno más, de los que en ese mes de junio tendrá lugar en Madrid, episodios que serán el resultado deductivo del proceso constituyente tras la denominada Gloriosa Revolución acaecida en septiembre de 1868 y que supuso la caída de la monarquía, el consiguiente exilio de Isabel II y la conformación del llamado Gobierno Provisional, dando inicio al denominado Sexenio Democrático. _______________________________Every new regime comes along with transcendent variations and modifications in a state’s ceremonial, protocol, symbols, configuration and performance of ceremonies; however, the nature of the latter continues to be regarded as an essential instrument for legitimization and proclamation, and also of the new political system itself. Whether derived from legislative action, from the government’s initiative or from popular ideas or private projects with significant public and media impact, such ceremonies are symbolic of the historical moment in which they are carried out, thus becoming a means of direct expression of the legitimacy and authority of the new political system in force. This study analyzes the inauguration of the National Pantheon, held on June 20, 1869, just one of the events that took place in Madrid that month — a series of episodes directly resulting from the constituent process following what was called the ‘Glorious Revolution’ in September of 1868, which brought about the collapse of the monarchy and, consequently, the exile of Isabella II and the configuration of the so-called Provisional Government, leading to the Sexenio Democrático or Six Democratic Years.

Анотація:

The contemporary regional economics sees clusters as geographically close groups of companies and other connecting organizations that work together while they also mutually compete. Despite the fact that the naturally born clusters exist for centuries and their formation is driven primarily by market factors, there has been prevailing in the recent decades a positive view of the controlled and driven development of clusters in developed countries. Organized clusters are being called the cluster initiative. In recent years, there was a relatively rapid development of cluster initiatives also in the territory of the Visegrad countries due to the national programs and subsidies from the EU structural funds. This paper reacts to the situation. The aim of the paper is to identify clusters currently existing in the tourism, agriculture and food sector in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia and to analyze their regional dispersion, structure and activities.

Year 1989 marked a breakthrough in the presence and development of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Poland. The freedom of association was restored, and the society immediately took advantage of this freedom. Since the early 1990s, decentralization has been coupled with a revived activity of the civic sector, and a clear increase in the number of ‘grass-root’ initiatives, stimulated by the society itself. The number of NGOs has kept growing, including the associations, foundations, and church organizations. The scope of their activity, the number of employees and the tasks they undertake have been expanding. In order to understand the essence of social economy, and primarily to notice the opportunity to develop the state on the basis of the principles of social economy, it was necessary to change the definition of the essence of the state and society, their role, and to correlate their mutual objectives and needs. The administrative reform executed in Poland in 1999, resulted in moving the burden of public tasks from the central government to the units of territorial self-government. The administrative reform introduced three layers of territorial division in order to promote self-governance, facilitate the operation of local authorities, and bring them closer to citizens. Over the last twenty years, NGOs have become a valuable partner in territorial self-government by performing various kinds of public tasks and thus becoming an exceptionally significant element of social policy. The principles regulating the co-existence of the third sector and the state are laid down in the act of law of April 24, 2003 on public benefit and volunteer work, which provides a comprehensive regulation of the activity of NGOs in the realm of public life, the principles (subsidiarity, sovereignty of parties, partnership, efficiency, fair competition, and transparency), and the form of cooperation between such organizations and the organs of public administration with respect to the performance of public tasks. It should be emphasized, however, that while NGOs have taken over services rendered in some areas, their potential has not been fully utilized. The functioning of social organizations manifests civic freedom and society’s self-organization. The activities of the third sector organizations allow the fulfillment of important social needs, such as the need for spontaneous association, social initiative and organizational autonomy. The functioning of social organizations has an advantageous influence on the activity of public and private organizations. The NGOs in Poland and abroad play an increasingly significant role, both in the development of civic society of democratic states, and also in the process of performing public tasks and the development of economies. At present, forms of cooperation between NGOs and the territorial self-government are being sought. This may indicate that both local authorities and the third sector organizations have reached a point where they are ready to form a real partnership. This is an optimistic statement, especially given the opportunity to develop the sector of social economy using the financial means of the EU structural funds. Along with the ageing of affluent societies, social exclusion, poverty and unemployment are the fundamental social problems for Poland and the whole of modern Europe. The subjects of the third sector of an economy can play a key role in solving these problems.

The article presents an overview of the Round table “Publishing activities of libraries: present and future”, held on November 29, 2018 on the initiative of the Russian state library in the framework of the International fair of intellectual literature Non/fictioNo 20. The purpose of this review is to answer a number of questions on the assessment of the current state and development prospects of the branch, the relevance of the main issues raised for discussion and consideration of them from different points of view. The author considers the statistical data of the Russian book chamber on the number of libraries in the country engaged in publishing activity, on its performance, thematic areas and repertoire. The author presents the opinions and main theses of the participants — representatives of library community, publishing, book distribution structures and government agencies — on the development trends in publishing activities of the libraries of different levels; and describes their publishing products. The article describes the tasks, repertoire, methods and forms of financing of modern professional library publications. At present, many libraries are not the subject of publishing activity, but work in cooperation with other publishing structures; it is not always taken into account by statistics and, therefore, further analysis and comprehension is needed. The author evaluates the experience of partnership between libraries and publishers using the example of specific projects. The raised problems are relevant, and currently there is a high interest in the publishing activities of libraries. There is a need for further discussion and analysis. The round table meeting is considered as the beginning of detailed conversation, which will be continued at further events.

There are many efforts internationally to achieve safe and respectful Mother-Baby–Family maternity care. This article is the first to provide a conceptual framework for implementing the Saudi Childbirth Initiative (SCI) in all health institutions in Saudi Arabia. It introduces the 10 Steps of the SCI to strategically achieve a safe and respectful Mother-Baby–Family maternity care in order to improve maternal and infant outcome and implement evidence-based maternity care in Saudi Arabia. The SCI is developed upon previous initiatives and integrates and supports much of the current work being carried out by many organizations. The aim of the SCI's 10 Steps is to improve care throughout the childbearing continuum, to save lives, prevent illness and harm from the overuse of obstetric technologies, and promote health for mothers and babies and to provide clear guidelines for providing optimal maternity care. Safe and respectful Mother-Baby–Family Maternity Care is measurable and for each of the 10 Steps, there is an associated assessment tool to ensure these guidelines are being established by health institutions. SCI envisions that successful implementation of the 10 Steps can be measured and monitored using the a combination of statistical information and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure maternal mortality and morbidity outcomes (currently in development) using local assessors.

India’s Act East Policy has been one major initiative to strengthen the strategic relationship with ASEAN. India’s trade intensity has been on the higher side in the last decade. India has great prospects to enter the emerging and unexplored markets of CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) countries owing to its amicable relationship and geographical proximity with those countries. This paper attempts to explore the exportability of products from India to ASEAN countries. The Revealed Comparative Advantage index has been used to identify the products with export potential. In the study, products such as cotton, pharmaceuticals, textiles, pearls and chemicals appear to have a comparative advantage against ASEAN.

Abstract Preservice teachers at Stephen F. Austin State University have been involved in a 20-year environmental education initiative as a part of the teacher education program. Since 1998, teacher educators and community stakeholders have collaborated with Texas Project Learning Tree to train preservice teachers in environmental education activities to be implemented in the yearly outdoor science education event, Bugs, Bees, Butterflies, and Blossoms. Held on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, area elementary school students participate in learning stations designed to facilitate investigative inquiry led by preservice teachers. A mixed methods study was implemented to evaluate the overall effectiveness. Data were collected from pre- and post-tests from traditional face-to-face and online preservice teachers. Results showed significant gains in science content knowledge and science teaching efficacy. Open-ended responses submitted by participants in the study addressed self-reflection about personal teacher identity and the overall impact of the initiative.

Abstract Over the past 20 years, tobacco prevention and cessation efforts have evolved to keep pace with the changing tobacco product landscape and the widespread adoption of digital technologies. In 2019, Truth Initiative was awarded the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s Jessie Gruman Award for Health Engagement in recognition of the major role it has played on both fronts since its inception in 1999. This manuscript reviews the challenges and opportunities that have emerged over the past two decades, the evolving tactics deployed by Truth Initiative to engage people in tobacco prevention and cessation efforts, the approaches used to evaluate those efforts, and key achievements. It concludes with a summary of lessons learned and considerations for tobacco control researchers and practitioners to accelerate their impact on public health.

Purpose Published literature universally supports the provision of oral care in acute care settings to decrease hospital-acquired aspiration pneumonia (HAAP) events. This evidence-based practice project aimed to implement a comprehensive oral care initiative to reduce a problematic HAAP rate. Method Through a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach, the project scope included an assessment of the current state of oral care delivery, development of an Oral Care Task Force, creation of risk stratification criteria with recommended oral care products, and robust education for the clinical staff. Data were gathered using a small convenience sample of inpatients and hospital-wide HAAP rates. Results Over the 1 year of implementation and education associated with this multidisciplinary project, the organization saw an increase in oral care tools being available to patients and staff at the bedside, an increase in patients' awareness of oral care tools in their rooms, and a decrease in the overall HAAP rate. Conclusions Creating a multidisciplinary team within an acute care organization with a focus on oral care delivery can be substantially advantageous to patients and hospitals alike. Although this project was limited in its analysis, the demonstrated results are nonetheless interesting and may be applicable to other acute care settings. Ultimately, attention to the importance of oral care and consistent care delivery can provide improved patient outcomes.

Water is an important and non-substitutable input in agricultural production. Its adequacy and quality supply is a necessity for sustainable production. However, it is increasingly getting scarce due to poor rainfall and inefficiency in use of available water. To improve the reliability of agricultural water supply, there are arguments to the effect that water needs to be privatised and treated as an economic good with an efficient price scheme. But what farmers, in reality, think about this idea of privatising irrigation is vital as they are the ultimate beneficiaries. This study therefore assessed the perception of farmers towards privatising irrigation supply using cross-sectional data collected from 240 randomly sampled famers from different households in four communities in the Nandom District. With descriptive statistics involving simple frequencies and measure of association, perceptions of farmers were analysed. The study revealed that farmers generally perceived privatisation will ensure wider provision of irrigation schemes in remote locations, make operators respond better to farmers’ needs as well as ensure service sustainability. Farmers, however, were concerned about affordability of irrigated water to the resource poor farmers when it is privatised. They were of the view that, priority might be put on profit maximisation at the expense of social welfare in a market oriented irrigation system. The study therefore recommends that the Government of Ghana, under the ‘One-village One-dam’ flagship initiative should encourage and regulate private investment in the supply of irrigation to ensure affordable and sustainable supply of the services to interested farmers.

It was a visionary initiative, 20 years ago, to start a journal devoted to the intersection between environmental, resource and development economics. At the time, the ‘Brundtland Report’ was old enough to be recognized in policy discussions at many possible levels, IPCC had already published its first and second assessment reports, and the Kyoto Protocol was just shaping up. Over the first 20 years of EDE's life, interest in environment and development grew quickly if not explosively, both in research and in the (policy) field, as was witnessed by the Millennium Development Goals in 2000, ‘Green Growth’ initiatives (from 2008 onwards at UNEP, OECD and World Bank), and at Rio +20 in 2012; IPCC's fifth assessment report is expected this year.

Introduction: Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that can result in aspiration, asphyxiation, or other complications. One method of facilitating safer swallowing is modification of the diet and fluids of individuals living with dysphagia. The International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative (IDDSI) is a globally standardized framework for texture modification. Its implementation has been recommended in the United States, but adoption is not yet universal. This study investigated implementation issues by surveying health care professionals in health care facilities in rural, Upstate New York. Method: A questionnaire created through the SurveyMonkey platform was distributed to health care facilities within a predetermined geographical area in Upstate New York. The survey consisted of 22 questions and utilized a mixed-methods design. Results: Forty-six participants from 10 individual professions and nine types of facilities completed the study. Twenty texture modification labels and 10 fluid modification labels were described. Analysis of qualitative data yielded three main barriers to implementation: funding, education, and communication. Within each barrier, awareness and resources were recurrent themes. Discussion: The variety of modification labels in comparison with the sample size demonstrates a lack of standardization of texture modification processes across facilities. While nearly half the respondents had not heard of IDDSI prior to the survey, 89% agreed that a standardized dysphagia diet would improve patient health and safety. This demonstrated a willingness to adopt IDDSI and indicated that staff attitudes may not be a barrier to its implementation. Participants felt that training was needed for successful implementation and expressed concern about the lack of availability of financial resources. The European wild rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) has become the major agricultural and environmental pest species in Australia. Current methods of rabbit control are lethal procedures which are increasingly questioned for their overall efficiency, applicability, specificity, cost and humaneness. New initiatives are required. One such initiative is virus-vectored immunocontraception. In this approach, the lagomorph-specific myxoma virus will be genetically engineered to include genes encoding components of rabbit gametes which can induce an immune response that causes infertility. Central to such a strategy is the ability to identify antigens capable of inducing an immunocontraceptive response. A strategy for identifying such antigens has been described previously. A case study of one sperm antigen, PH-20, is reported here. The issues involved in developing this antigen to the stage where it could be considered as a candidate for insertion into a recombinant myxoma virus with the ultimate goal of testing for immunocontraceptive efficacy are discussed. Techniques for inserting genes into myxoma virus have been described previously. The knowledge gained from research with this particular antigen are broadly applicable to other antigens used for both immunocontraceptive vaccines in general and, specifically, for virus-vectored immunocontraception.

Respiratory rate (RR) is a predictor of adverse outcomes. However, RRs are inaccurately measured in the hospital. We conducted a quality improvement (QI) initiative using plan-do-study-act methodology on one inpatient unit of a safety-net hospital to improve RR accuracy. We added time-keeping devices to vital sign carts and retrained patient-care assistants on a newly modified workflow that included concomitant RR measurement during automated blood pressure measurement. The median RR was 18 (interquartile range [IQR] 18-20) preintervention versus 14 (IQR 15-20) postintervention. RR accuracy, defined as ±2 breaths of gold-standard measurements, increased from 36% preintervention to 58% postintervention (P < .01). The median time for vital signs decreased from 2:36 minutes (IQR, 2:04-3:20) to 1:55 minutes (IQR, 1:40-2:22; P < .01). The intervention was associated with a 7.8% reduced incidence of tachypnea-specific systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS = 2 points with RR > 20; 95% CI, –13.5% to –2.2%). Our interdisciplinary, low-cost, low-tech QI initiative improved the accuracy and efficiency of RR measurement.
