Studies by Richards (1926), Krogerus (1927), Wallace (1953), and Hayes and Tickell (1984) indicated that beetles were the common insect group in coniferous stumps in Europe.The purpose of this study was to identify the insect species colonizing lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta Dougl.) stumps in the Hinton area and assisting in their breakdown.

This paper compares Ferenc Molnár’s play Játék a kastélyban (1926) with two versions of the text, P. G. Wodehouse’s translation titled The Play’s the Thing (1926) and Tom Stoppard’s adaptation titled Rough Crossing (1984.) This analysis explores the differences in the play’s title, the variations in the characters’ names, the alterations present in Wodehouse’s translation and the ways in which Stoppard deconstructs Molnár’s play. The conclusion of the comparison is that in P. G. Wodehouse’s adaptation, Ferenc Molnár’s three-act anecdote remains unchanged in its dramaturgical structure, the translator’s changes chiefly concern the local specificities of staging the play in America. Tom Stoppard’s musical play should however be considered an adaptation, wherein the theatrical questions and challenges raised in the Molnár play are radically escalated.

The British and French communist movements have rarely been an object of comparison, partly because of the huge difference in fortunes enjoyed by the two parties. However, one important similarity between these neighbours was the size and importance of the countries' coal industries, as well as the militancy of their mining communities, where communism took root as a serious political and cultural force. This article examines acts of solidarity by British and French Communists during the most important miners' strikes of their parties' existence: the General Strike and Lockout of 1926, the French miners' action of 1948, and the British miners' last great struggle of 1984-1985. Through the study of archival documents, the press and other sources, we explore how these disputes constitute important moments in the history of British and French communism, as well as of their countries' respective labour movements. The dispute of 1984-1985 marks a culminating point that confirms the strengths and weaknesses of British and French communism's relationship with the miners.

<p>Como reconocimiento a los aportes de Foucault a la investigación histórica, este análisis relaciona historia y crítica con la comprensión del funcionamiento de la subjetividad moderna y contemporánea, con el fin de descifrar la forma como este autor revela las matrices de subjetivación que nos constituyen como sujetos modernos. La analítica de sus obras permite entender la coherencia de su objetivo al relacionar el trabajo histórico con la comprensión minuciosa del presente, y así ubicarse en una línea de trabajo establecida por Kant. Lo cual implica entender relaciones problemáticas, como las que establecemos entre su comprensión del mundo greco-romano y la búsqueda de formas históricas de vida que permitan construir posiciones de sujeto frente a las situaciones contemporáneas de los mundos neoliberales, orientadas a darle un sentido al discurso histórico asociándolo a la búsqueda de una fundamentación ética de la existencia.</p>

Na historiografia literária portuguesa, urge completar a da literatura infanto-juvenil (LIJ), iniciada por Lemos (1972), Pires (1982), Rocha (1984/2001) e Gomes (1997). O Estado Novo (1926-1974), já abordado, mesmo restritamente, reclama pesquisa acerca de diversos autores ou sobre temáticas como censura e LIJ. Revisitaremos a escrita para os mais novos de Maria Lúcia Namorado (1909-2000), figura marcante com uma acção s´ócio-cultural e pedagógica variada, designadamente volumes, «merecedores de referência» (Gomes, 1997): O Sonho do Infante (1960), A História do Pintainho Amarelo (1966) e A História de um Bago de Milho (1968), «dois livros de cunho moralista e pedagógico» (Rocha, 1984), Era uma vez... (1970), colectânea de textos populares, e Aventuras do Janoca e do Janeca (1971). A partir da análise das principais linhas ideotemáticas e mecanismos retórico-estilísticos deste conjunto textual, um «magistério que cumpre assinalar» (Gomes, 1997), concluiremos acerca da presença de Maria Lúcia na História da LIJ Portuguesa.

The first Silurian trilobites to be described from Alaska are of late Llandovery (Telychian) age. They occur with original cuticle intact in a white biosparite. Seven species have been identified, including Paracybantyx occidentalis n. sp., Ligiscus smithi n. sp., Calymene s.l. aff. C. iladon Lane and Siveter, 1991, Scotoharpes aff. S. raaschi Norford, 1973, Scharyia sp., a cheirurine belonging to either Radiurus Ramsköld, 1983, or Protocerauroides Chatterton and Perry, 1984, and an undetermined warburgelline. The fauna has close affinity to those described from similar lithologies in the Telychian of North Greenland. Machaeridians occurring with the trilobites include Turrilepas sp., Compacoleus sp., and Lepidocoleus cf. L. britannicus Withers, 1926.

A bifurcação da produção teórica de Michel Foucault (1926 – 1984) em dois polos, arqueológico (1961-69) e genealógico (1969-79), tem origem em uma ruptura metodológica ocorrida no interior de sua própria obra. Nesse sentido, a noção de descontinuidade assume uma centralidade inquestionável, tanto no objeto de sua reflexão epistemológica, quanto em sua própria escrita e pensamento, ambos marcados por uma relação extremada com rupturas temporais. Neste artigo, demonstraremos como o movimento revolucionário que e clodiu na França em maio de 1968 não só provocou um profundo impacto sobre a obra do autor de Les mots et les choses, como também refutou o seu método arqueológico.

The species of the water scavenger beetle genus Laccobius Erichson, 1837 occuring in China are reviewed. Two new species are described: Laccobius (Glyptolaccobius) qinlingensis sp. nov. (Shaanxi) and L. (Cyclolaccobius) hainanensis sp. nov. (Hainan). Five species are recorded for the first time: Laccobius (Dimorpholaccobius) bipunctatus (Fabricius, 1775), L. On 8 November 1996, a female thresher shark (Figure 1) was caught in a purse seine full of bluefish (Pomatomus saltator), off Şile (41°15′24″N 29°35′30″E). The shark was photographed and tooth samples from lower and upper jaws were removed, and placed in the personal collection of the author. The total length of the shark was 453 cm.Alopias vulpinus (Bonnaterre, 1788) is one of the three species of the family Alopiidae (Compagno, 1984). The thresher shark occurs worldwide, usually far offshore in temperate to tropical oceans, but where there are schools of bluefish, mackerel and squid, it may come close to the shore in pursuit. It is one of the most common shark species in the Mediterranean Sea (Quero, 1984). According to Devedjian (1926), Rhasis Erazi (1942) and Slastenenko (1955–1956) thresher sharks occur in the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Black Sea, however, over the last 40 years there have been no reports of this species in these areas (Ak§iray, 1987).

Pretendeu-se refletir sobre as semelhanças entre as Lettres de Cachet e os Psicodiagnósticos (Psicodiagnósticos de sujeitos considerados portadores de dificuldades de aprendizageme produzidos em determinadas circunstâncias), documentos produzidos em contextos distintos e distantes no tempo e no espaço, as prisões reais francesas do século XVIII e as escolas/hospitais no Brasil do século XXI. Tomou-se como base teórica obras de Foucault (1926-1984), que nos permite compreender que ambos os documentos são frutos de tensões engendradas por meios de poder e contrapoder, cujos mecanismos sociais pretendem silenciar as singularidades, justificando e definindo práticas avaliativas produtoras de discursos presentes nas práticas institucionais disciplinares e médicas e no cotidiano das instituições de ensino e hospitalares, determinando valores e crenças presentes na histórica relação existente entre linguagem e poder. Como metodologia de análise adotou-se a proposta do Paradigma Indiciário.***We have intended to speculate upon the similarities between the Lettres de Cachet and the Psychodiagnostics (Psychodiagnostics of individuals considered to have learning difficulties and produced in certain circumstances), documents produced in different contexts and distant in time and space, the French royal prisions from the XVIII century and the schools/hospitals in Brazil in the XXI century. The theoretical works of Foucault (1926-1984) were used as a basis in this research, which allows us to comprehend that both documents are results of engendered tensions by power and counterpower means, whose social mechanisms mean to silent the singularities, justifying and defining evaluative practices that produce speeches presented in disciplinary and medic institutional practices and in this educational and hospital institutions’ quotidian, determining values and beliefs that are found in the historical relationship between language and power. As an analytical methodology the indicatorial paradigm purpose was adopted.

<p>O objetivo deste artigo é resgatar na obra de Michel Foucault (1926-1984) reflexões acerca da articulação entre o saber médico moderno e o poder do Estado em instalar políticas públicas de saúde como a que vemos em todo o mundo de isolamento social como medida preventiva contra o avanço da pandemia do Covid-19 no ano de 2020, demonstrando que esta estratégia não é uma novidade dos dias de hoje e como as reflexões de Foucault acerca do surgimento da medicina moderna e do Estado pode nos auxiliar a compreender esta quarentena que muitos estejam experenciando como uma estratégia biopolítica derivada desta relação saber-poder.</p>

Este artigo apresenta pesquisa que analisou 7.023 comentários feitos por homens e mulheres na página do programa Bem Estar, da Rede Globo, no Facebook. Buscou-se saber (a) quem, entre homens e mulheres, mais usa a internet para fazer confissões sobre o próprio corpo e (b) quais os assuntos que mais despertam essas confissões. O trabalho adota etnografia de tela. Concilia estudos de jornalismo, de gênero e o conceito de confissão de Michel Foucault (1926-1984). O texto diz que as confissões na web ajudam a formar um conjunto de informações sobre homens e mulheres, e que esse conjunto permite a criação de uma série de saberes/poderes sobre os corpos masculino e feminino.

Jacaltenango is a forlorn, unkempt-looking town lying in the tierra templada toward the western edge of the Cuchumatán highlands of Guatemala. It is perhaps best known to the academic world as a stop on the route taken by Frans Blom and Oliver La Farge (1926, 1927) in their pioneering reconnaissance of Mesoamerica earlier this century, a place to which the latter returned with Douglas Byers to document an intriguing array of Maya cultural survivals (La Farge and Byers 1931). More recently, one of its native sons has given local lore and storytelling eloquent written form, as well as documenting the town's painful experience during counterinsurgency operations in the early 1980s (Montejo 1984, 1987).

O presente artigo busca promover uma reflexão sobre a didática do ensino de filosofia a partir de um relato de experiência com o uso de textos filosóficos no ensino médio. Analisa a didática aplicada nessa experiência à luz do aparato teórico metodológico do filósofo Michel Foucault (1926 - 1984). Este trabalho é uma tentativa e um convite a utilização de conceitos foucaultianos, em especial “governo” e “governamentalidade” como ferramentas para repensar a relação entre aluno e professor. Pensar o processo educacional como forma de governo e autogoverno, ou seja, como condução das condutas, significa levar em conta as práticas, estratégias e objetivos pelos quais os indivíduos, em sua liberdade, tentam governar os outros e a si mesmos.

O artigo utiliza o método de pesquisa bibliográfico-reflexivo para apresentar os conceitos de “arte de viver”, “exercícios espirituais” e “práticas de si”, trabalhados, cada um a seu modo, por Pierre Hadot (1922-2010) e Michel Foucault (1926-1984). O objetivo é apontar que, mesmo em meio aos problemas trazidos e evidenciados pela pandemia de COVID-19, é possível a transformação do indivíduo, no sentido de que, em meio ao caos, sempre deve haver esperança, de modo a modificar o olhar do sujeito em relação ao outro. Com isso, trazemos duas sessões principais: uma, que retoma o contexto da pandemia e, outra, que aponta, por meio das teorias filosóficas e dos dois referenciais, uma nova maneira de viver.

My article explores the images and metaphors relating to space in Fritz Lang’s 1926 film, Metropolis (remade in 1984 by Georgio Moroder). Using a primarily Marxist interpretive framework, I analyse the spatial layout of the filmic city of Metropolis, divided into three levels, one above ground and two underground, as metonymic of the class divisions in the urban society that are represented in the film. The article also examines the architecture of Metropolis as representing social values and conflicts. It then proceeds to investigate the film’s gender dynamics as revealed in the two figures of the robot Maria and the real Maria, and concludes that the film’s gender and class ideology is remarkably conservative.
