Balanced Incomplete Block Designs (BIBD) are the designs obtained from the arrangement of symbols in blocks following established rules and satisfying relevant necessary conditions. BIBDs have broad applications in many fields.The entries in a Hadamard matrix H are all +1’s or -1’s, satisfying the property HHT = n In [2]. Genetic characterization of maize genotypes is of great importance in maize breeding program to identify diverse populations and divergent genotypes. Divergence and genetic diversity were assessed in a set of 20 maize genotypes representing popcorn, white corn, sweet corn and yellow corn, through morphological characteristics and Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Field experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design with three replications. Morphological data revealed that sweet corn genotype SCLY-1 was earlier in days to 50% pollen shedding than other genotypes while white corn genotype WL-3 was earlier in days to 50% silking. Maximum plant height was recorded for PCLY-5 (133.3 cm) while lowest for WL-4 (92.8 cm), whereas highest ears height was recorded for popcorn PCLY-1 (64.4 cm) and lowest (29.4 cm) for SCLY-5. The yellow corn had maximum (4.5 kg) grain yield at harvest as compared to sweet and popcorn (3.0 kg). Negative but weak correlation was recorded between ear height and grain yield. Cluster analysis based on yield related parameters grouped all the studied genotypes in to five sub clusters. Molecular genotyping based on four primers amplified 37 loci which were (100%) polymorphic. Maximum elven loci were identified by primer GLA-04, while minimum was reported for primer GLA-03. The loci GLD-18B1000, GLA-04B300 recorded highest gene diversity (0.500) followed by loci GLE05B750, GLE-05B650 and GLE-05B550. The loci of primer GLD-18 (GLD-18B1000) detected highest alleles evenness and Simpson’s diversity index of 1.00 and 0.526, respectively. Maximum gene diversity (0.354) among populations were recorded for yellow corn, while the minimum was detected for white corn (0.254), while genotypic diversity was same for all maize types. Cluster analysis based on molecular genotypic data grouped the maize genotypes into four distinct groups. Lack of concordance was observed while comparing the clustering based on phenotypic and molecular data. The overall diversity among the studied maize genotypes could be used in future maize breeding program.

Hybrid composites of Al/Al2O3/TiC were produced by anodizing and accumulative roll bonding processes. We implemented 3D imaging of the composites using synchrotron radiation tomography at Biomedical Imaging and Therapy’s 05B1-1 beamline at Canadian Light Source to collect information on internal structure of these hybrid composites i.e. distribution of particles and voids, particle/matrix interface and surface area distribution after different accumulative roll bonding passes. The volume and interface surface area distribution are responsible for strength and toughness of the composites along with other factors such as strain hardening and formation of ultrafine grains. We found that the mechanical properties improved as the number of accumulative roll bonding passes increases and the internal homogeneity of structure also improved. The composites after different accumulative roll bonding passes are studied where the number of reinforced particles and voids and their shape and size distribution were accurately being quantified in 3D to relate with mechanical properties of the composite. Such information should be of importance in analysis and improvement of the manufacturing process of these types of composites.

Rectangular designs are classified as regular, Latin regular, semi-regular, Latin semi-regular and singular designs. Some series of self-dual as well as α–resolvable designs which belong to the above classes are obtained. The building blocks of the designs are square (0, 1)-matrices. It is more general to view a class of designs based on an array than to view them based on disjoint groups of treatments of equal size. This generality enabled us to identify three subclasses of rectangular designs: Latin regular RDs, Latin semi-regular RDs and semi-regular L2-type designs which deserve further study. In every construction we obtain a matrix N with square (0, 1)-submatrices such that N becomes the incidence matrix of a rectangular design. The method is the reverse of the well-known tactical decomposition of the incidence matrix of a known design. The authors have already obtained some series of Group Divisible and L2-type designs using this method. Tactical decomposable designs are of great interest because of their connections with automorphisms of designs, see Bekar et al.[ 1 ] The rectangular designs constructed here are of statistical as well as combinatorial interest. An isohedral tiling is a tiling of congruent polygons that are also transitive, which is to say the configuration of degrees of vertices around each face is identical. Regular tessellations, or tilings of congruent regular polygons, are a special case of isohedral tilings. Viewing these tilings as graphs in planes, both Euclidean and non-Euclidean, it is possible to pose various problems of enumeration on the respective graphs. In this paper, we investigate some near-regular isohedral tilings of triangles and quadrilaterals in the hyperbolic plane. For these tilings we enumerate vertices as classified by number of edges in the shortest path to a given origin, by combinatorially deriving their respective generating functions.

Coronary heart disease remains a leading cause of chronic illness in the world. Addressing lifestyle risk factors through health-related behaviour change is a key component of managing this condition. There is a lack of understanding from the patient’s perspective, of the ways in which information is used to support healthrelated behaviour change. This study sought an increased understanding of the social processes and interactions influencing individual health-related behaviour change after a heart attack. A constructivist grounded theory approach was used and narrative inquiry informed the development of the theory of biographical restorying following a heart attack. A symbolic interactionist framework facilitated an increased understanding of how the life story of those who had experienced a heart attack were shaped through interaction with their social world. Twenty-five semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 individuals. The interviews took place at approximately 3 weeks and 6 months after their heart attack. The theory of biographical restorying proposed four different narratives of life after a heart attack. Individuals told of lives that were either continuing as before or a struggle, limited or enhanced in response to the physical sensations they had experienced during their illness episode. The cycle of acting and reflecting on those sensations informed, adapted and reinforced both illness beliefs and health related concepts. Medical practitioners were the most valued source of knowledge for those who experienced a heart attack. However, illness perceptions interpreted by those who had experienced a heart attack were different to those of medical personnel. Participants of this study increased their lay-knowledge to create a narrative around the causes, consequences and controllability of their condition. The internet was not widely accessed for health-related information by this group. The theory offers insights into the timing of interventions designed to support the adaptation of specific illness beliefs and an approach to cardiac rehabilitation that is better to suited to the needs of an individual.

This paper examines the mathematical properties of Sudoku puzzles defined on a Torus. We seek to answer the questions for these variants that have been explored for the traditional Sudoku. We do this process with two such embeddings. The end result of this paper is a deeper mathematical understanding of logic puzzles of this type, as well as a fun new puzzle which could be played.
