The present study explored pre- and post-reading perceptions of the motivational variable interest in simplified novels (graded readers) of intermediate-level students (N = 89) in an intensive English program at a private university in Japan. The study examined participants’ reported overall interest, and lack thereof, in an assigned set of six graded readers. Results confirmed that the selected books represented a wide variety of interest and boredom components, a finding that underscores the importance of assessing student interests in relation to ESL/EFL classroom activities. The study also found that the pre- and post-reading interest differed significantly for some books, and that prior knowledge likely was a contributing factor in some perceptions of interest. 教育心理学では、興味・関心（interest）がもたらすモチベーションの強さが学習に大きな影響を与えることは広く認められている。しかし、興味・関心と第2言語習得との相関関係についての研究が全くと言ってよいほど行われていないのは、驚くべきことである。本論では、日本の私立大学の英語インテンシブ・プログラムにおいて、中級レベルのクラスで学ぶ学生（89名）を対象に、平易に書き直された小説（いわゆる「グレイデッド･リーダー」）を6冊使用し、読む前と後で、それらに対して持った興味・関心の変化について調査を行った。その結果、小説には、興味を呼び起こす要素、およびつまらないと感じさせる要素が幅広く含まれており、ESL/EFLクラスの活動に際し、学生の興味・関心を見極めることが重要であることが確認できた。また、読前、読後で興味・関心の高さが大きく変化する小説があること、さらに、読む前に内容についての知識を持っていることは、いくつかの点で興味・関心の持ち方に影響を与える可能性があることも明らかになった。

Shiga Naoya (志賀直哉1883-1971) é conhecido como um dos principais autores do Shishōsetsu (私小説), ou Romance do Eu. Sua escrita, entretanto, enquadra-se como um tipo de literatura de experiência não somente porque é usualmente baseada em eventos da vida do autor, mas pela capacidade de retratar de forma vívida como os personagens se sentiam ao vivenciar os eventos narrados. Como forma de ilustrar essa habilidade de representar de forma fidedigna as emoções dos personagens em suas obras, o presente trabalho explora o conto A navalha (Kamisori 剃刀), de 1910, que não se enquadra no gênero Shishōsetsu, mas é capaz de transmitir ao leitor de forma verossímil as sensações que levaram o protagonista ao trágico desfecho da história.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan makna lagu Chiisana Koi no Uta dan penggunaan kata Koi sebagai pengungkapan cinta. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan metode penelitian semiotika yaitu meneliti tentang tanda. Metode penelitian Semiotika Roland Barthes yaitu dengan meneliti makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos dari lagu Chiisana Koi no Uta. Dalam penelitian ini, akan dimaknai lirik lagu yang dilihat dari tanda, makna denotatif dan makna konotatif. Hasil penelitian yaitu ditemukannya makna lirik lagu yang menggambarkan perasaan seorang laki-laki yang sedang jatuh cinta kepada seseorang perempuan. Dari sekian banyak perempuan, ia hanya mencintai satu perempuan kemudian laki-laki tersebut mengungkapkan seluruh perasaannya dalam bentuk lagu.本研究の目的は、「小さな恋のうた」の恋の表現としての使い方と意味を説明することである。次、Roland Barthes記号論の記号や研究方法で「小さな恋のうた」の歌詞を調べる。記号論的研究手法を用いた定性的記述研究である。本研究では、記号、意味的なsignifier、意味的なsignifiedから調べる歌の歌詞を解釈しようとした。結果は、歌詞の中に使った「恋」の意味は誰かの女性に恋している男性の感情を説明している。多くの女性の中で、彼は一人の女性しか愛しておらず、男性はすべての感情を歌詞の形で表現している。

This article presents a translation of two sections from the chapter “Guai Shen” 怪神 (“Monsters and Deities”) of the treatise Feng su tong yi 風俗通義 (Penetrating into the Meaning of Traditions and Customs), written by the statesman Ying Shao 應劭 (d. before 204), supplied with an introduction and comments. This chapter includes twenty-one anecdotes about human encounters with the supernatural or local religious cults. Ten of them were later included into the collection of stories Sou shen ji 搜神記 (Investigations into Deities), thus this treatise had some impact on the development of the zhiguai xiaoshuo 志怪小説 (“stories [containing] records [of] the unusual”) genre. The two sections selected for publication describe local cults that were formed during the Han era 漢 (202 B.C.E. — 220 C.E.). In the first section, Ying Shao shows how officials should control such cults using laws. In the second one, the author persuades the reader to rationally approach the foundations on which the cult arises and not to trust all rumors about the divine power of creatures. This translation provides an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of religious life at the end of the Han era.

要約日本では、戦後のベビーブームで生まれた世代は、「団塊の世代」と呼ばれる。かれらは豊かになっていく社会の文化の消費者として登場し、1970年前後に「熱い季節」を体験した。佐藤泰志の短篇小説「市街戦のジャズメン」と佐々木幹郎の詩「死者の鞭」は、1960年後半の政治運動の波動から生まれた二つの先駆的作品である。1970年代のある時期に社会の空気が変わった。人々は問題未解決のままの幸福状態に入っていった。そこにつきまとう不安が当時の詩の特徴の一部となっている。Abstract The generation born during Japan’s post-war baby boom are called the “dankai” generation. Appearing as consumers of culture in a society which was becoming richer, they experienced a “hot season” around 1970. Sato Yasushi’s Jazzmen in Street Fighting and Sasaki Mikirō’s Whip of the Dead are two pioneer works born in an undulation from the political movement in the late 60s. At a certain point in the 1970s the whole scene changed. People were entering a state of strange happiness with problems unsolved. A kind of uneasiness haunting there is a part of characteristics of poetry then.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 通常把中國古典小説分為“文言小説”和“白話小説”兩類。這兩個稱謂的確方便應用，卻總嫌不夠學術性。譬如《三國演義》，其語言是以淺近的文言為主，間雜白話而已，怎麼可以稱為“白話小説”呢？稱為“文言小説”吧，在ー大堆志怪、傳奇面前，難免有“非我族類”之譏。又如〈杜十娘怒沈百寶箱〉，文言白話混雜，也不知該稱為“文言小説”好還是“白話小説”好！何況，這兩個名稱使人過份集中注意語言上的區別了，其實這兩類小説各有不同的起源，不同的發展，體裁上也顯然有別，實是兩個不同源流的作品。(撮要取自內文首段)The origin of Chinese vernacular fiction can be traced to the “sing and narrate” stories popular in the monasteries in the T’ang Dynasty. That the stories were partly narrated and partly sung influenced later Chinese fiction writings, especially the “chaptered fiction”（章回小説）, from Bien-wen（變文）down to Ching Dynasty. Every aspect in the “chaptered fiction”, be it style, language, narrative, technique, plot or character building, bears the impact of this narrate and sing tradition. LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese only. 本文擬探討的主要論題是對明清古典小説之來源和文學性質的再評價。我對這研究對象的主導看法基於兩個核心概念：其一可名之曰“文人小説”論，其二則不妨稱之爲“奇書文體”説。所謂“文人小説”這一名稱是針對二十世紀學術界流行的“通俗文學”觀念，提出一個反論；也是嘗試對明清讀書人視小説爲“文人”之作的見解進行一番由現代比較文學角度的反思。明清長篇章回小説之“通俗文學”説的緣起，早始於五四運動前後，而尤得力於胡、魯、鄭三巨頭的提倡。胡適對《水滸傳》、《西遊記》等書一系列考證文章的基礎，就是建於它們是通俗文學的信念。魯迅又説：“元明之演義，自來盛行民間，其書故甚夥，而史志皆不録。唯明王圻作《續文獻通考》，高儒作《百川書志》，皆收《三國演義》及《水滸傳》，清初錢曾作《也是園書目》，亦有通俗小説《三國志》等三種”。魯迅的説法，今人奉爲定論。但細品其原意，其實不過是一種推測之詞而已，代表了五四時代尊白話貶文言和重小説輕詩文的一種共同的眼光。(撮要取自內文首段)

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese only. 鴛鴦蝴蝶派這個名詞用來稱某一些的舊派小説，或小説家，大概已經有七、八十年歷史了。這個名稱的來歷，其實恐怕也還是很模糊的。有一種説法是：大約在民國九年（1920）有一位在上海的名士楊了公請客吃飯，約了些文士朋友，其中有好幾位寫小説都有鴛、蝶、鵷雛、鶴這些筆名或別號。他們那天也「叫局」（召妓侍酒），所叫的妓女之中，有清末民初著名的四大金剛之一的林黛玉。據説這位林黛玉愛吃用外洋進口的麵粉製的花捲兒，主人楊了公興起，就提議用「洋麵粉」、「林黛玉」分詠，作兩句詩鐘。座上朱鴛雛（名璽，江蘇松江人）文思很快，立刻就口占二句是「蝴蝶粉香來海國，鴛鴦夢冷怨瀟湘。」海國指的就是外國，像魏源的《海國圖志》書名的用法。林黛玉本是小説裏的人物，小説《紅樓夢》中的林黛玉別號稱瀟湘妃子，這裏借用瀟湘來稱真人的林黛玉正合適。他們正在嘖嘖歎賞的時候，忽然大家的老朋友劉半農闖進來了，更加熱鬧成一團。劉半農就是劉復，他本是舊派作家，號半儂，先前在上海中華書局做編輯。後來應約北上，加入了北京大學，成了五四新文化運動的健將了！民國七年（1918）他在《新青年》四卷三號上寫的〈答王敬軒書〉，這封和舊派鬥爭的「雙簧」信，是周氏兩兄弟都寫過文字贊揚的。這一天劉先生路經上海去法國，也被人邀在同一家飯館吃飯，聞聲而至，所以就有機會和這些舊交們重聚。據説當天劉先生「認為駢文小説《玉梨魂》就犯了空泛、肉麻、無病呻吟的毛病，該列入『鴛鴦蝴蝶小説』」。(撮要取自內文首段)

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 魯迅(1881-1936)是我國現代小説重要的開拓者。他的小説，無論內容、形式、技巧，都突破傳統小説的規範，尤其敍述技巧方面，勇於作種種新的嘗試。他借鑑了西方的敍事觀點理論，靈活變化運用：每一種敍事觀點都加以試驗，相同的敍事觀點又加以變化運用，做成每一篇作品都有不同的形式。《吶喊》和《彷徨》是魯迅創作小説的結集。本文就兩部小説集中二十五篇小説，逐一分析其敍述技巧；而所謂敍述技巧，主要是敍事觀點的選擇、運用，有時旁及敍述時間的操縱、調度。Lu Xun (1881-1936) is an important pioneer of Chinese modem fiction. The content, format, techniques of his novels are also breakthroughs to the canonical of traditional Chinese novels. He also made new attempts in his narrative techniques. He used the experience of the narrative viewpoint theory from the western novels and handled them with great flexibility. He experimented on each of the narrative viewpoint and applied them quick-wittedly on the same narrative viewpoint so that each piece of the novels has a different modality. "Cry Out” ('Na Han') and "Wandering" (‘Pang Wang') are the two collections of short novels of Lu Xun. This passage focuses on the analysis of the narrative viewpoints of the twenty five masterpieces one by one. The so-called narrative techniques are mainly the choice of narrative viewpoint. He might sometimes takes interest in the control and management of narrative time as well.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 晚清小説研究一直是中國現代文學研究的一個重要領域，魯迅、胡適、米列娜、陳平原、王德威等學者或以晚清小説爲“他者”，討論“五四”文學的現代性，依此分析中國小説由“傳統”向“現代”的進化；或通過對晚清小説的結構分析，在比較文學或比較文化的層面，重估晚清小説的現代性意義；或通過對“晚清小説的現代性”的論證挑戰中國現代文學的“五四起源論”，回應人文學界有關“多元現代性”的討論。晚清小説在不同時期的研究視域中呈現的不同意義，既體現出研究者問題意識與批評方法的差異，亦凸顯出包括文學研究在内的人文學科在二十世紀的不同文化政治語境中的深刻變革。The study of the fiction of the late Qing period (1894-1911) is an important area in the field of modern Chinese literature. In their discussion of the “modernity” of May Fourth literature, scholars such as Lu Xun (1881-1936), Hu Shi (1891-1962), Milna Delezelova-Velingerova, Chen Pingyuan, and David Der-wei Wang defined late Qing fiction as “the other” and used it as a demarcation between the “traditional” and “modem” in the evolution of Chinese fiction. In their research into comparative literature and comparative culture, some scholars have reevaluated the significance of the modernity of late Qing fiction through an analysis of its structures. Through their study of the modernity of late Qing fiction, some scholars have challenged the view that modem Chinese literature originated from the May Fourth Movement. This was in fact a response to the discussion of “multi-faceted modernity” in humanities scholarship. Late Qing fiction assumes a different significance depending on the research angle and time-period. This phenomenon reveals discrepancies in researchers’ approach and methods of criticism. It also highlights the profound transformation of the humanizes, which include literary studies, in different cultural-political contexts of the twentieth century.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 本文以文本細讀的方法，結合叙事學的理論，深入分析西西小説《碗》的人物形象、内心世界、隱喻、象徵、意象、性别議題，并探討交叉叙述手法在文中的作用，四段獨白構成怎樣的對話關係；通過多向的分析揭示小説豐富的意涵，并窺探《碗》與小説家西西的關係。 This essay applies close reading to “Bowl”, a novel by Xi Xi, drawing upon narrative theory, to analyze its characterization, the psychology of its characters, and the metaphors, symbols, imagery, and gender issues of the novel. It also explores how the interaction of the four monologues in the novel forms a Bakhtinian dialogue and its significance, in an attempt to unravel the multiple meanings of the work and the relationship between the novel and the novelist.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese only. 蘇州科技學院金紅教授以十年磨一劍之功力，出版了她在博士論文基礎上數易其稿的專著《融通與變異：意識流在中國新時期小説中的流變》（下文簡稱《流變》），該書對意識流的西風東漸之歷史背景、傳播路徑、創作影響、發展現狀、利弊得失等問題作了全面而系統的論述。“這是學術界迄今爲止最爲完善、完整地論述意識流與中國新時期文學關係的論文。論文不僅評介了意識流小説在新時期文壇的譯介過程，而且著力分析它對中國新時期小説的影響過程，顯得相當地全面。”此乃蘇州大學文學院教授、現當代文學博士研究生導師湯哲聲對金紅博士論文《流變》之評語（見《流變》封底所録）點出了此書的意義所在。可以説，此書開啓了中國新時期意識流小説研究的新篇章，具有填補學術空白的重要意義。概而論之，《流變》的研究特色與學術成就主要表現在三個方面，兹簡略論之。(撮要取自內文首段)

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 本文主要分析香港20世紀六十年代的一本重要左派文藝刊物《海光文藝》中的流行小説。之前對《海光文藝》的研究主要在於它作爲左派的灰色刊物在冷戰時期的意義，本文則對其中的流行小説部分進行細讀，大致分爲兩個部分，第一部分討論《海光文藝》中對流行文學的研究，包括梁羽生、金庸對於武俠小説的討論，盈若思對瓊瑤及郭良蕙的言情小説的分析等。第二部分以文本細讀的方法，分析《海光文藝》刊登的流行短篇小説，特别是選取鄭慧、依達、亦舒這三個分别在五十年代、六十年代及七十年代最爲流行的言情作家作品來討論他們所寫作的言情小説中所反映的不同世代的創作特色。文章認爲《海光文藝》在評論及創作兩個方面均對當時的流行文學研究做出貢獻。它以一種嚴肅的、論文探討式的方式來分析時下的流行文學類型，同時，在創作上，刊物中發表的流行文學在世代、性别、背景上也有多樣化的特點，因此在香港六十年代流行文學的研究及創作上具有重要價值。 This paper discussed the popular fiction in Haiguang wenyi, one of the most important literary journals by the leftist in the 1960s Hong Kong. Previously the studies of this journal mainly focused on its significance as a grey journal of the leftists during the cold war, this paper, however, conducted a detailed analysis in its texts of popular fiction. It consisted two parts. Part one discussed the essays on the theory of popular literature published in this journal, including discussions on martial art fiction by Liang Yusheng and Jing Yong, the analysis by Ying Ruosi on the topic of romances of Qiong Yao and Guo Lianghui. Part two did a detailed readings of the popular fiction in this journal, especially the stories written by Zheng Hui, Yi Da and Yi Shu. These three writers were the most popular romance writers of the 50s, 60s and 70s each. In general, this paper argued that Haiguang wenyi contributed greatly to the popular literature writings in the 1960s Hong Kong literature. Not only did it take a serious attitude to treat popular literature at that time, but also the popular stories published in this journal exhibited the diversity of genres and generations at that time.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 本文通過分析三位譯者林紓、周桂笙以及周作人的譯作，以案例研究的方式對晚清時期偵探小説的翻譯作出探討。分析的譯作包括魏易、林紓譯的《歇洛克奇案開場》、周桂笙譯的《毒蛇圈》以及周作人譯的《玉蟲緣》。晚清時期的翻譯，無論是林紓和周作人所追求的古文的意境，還是周桂笙、吳趼人等採取的章回小説評點本的形式，都與中國傳統舊小説有著千絲萬縷的關係。同時，由於晚清時期面臨著列强侵略、國力衰退、新舊思想對立，偵探小説在時人當中的理解也體現出了這些時代精神，與原本西方偵探小説中强調的科學性和趣味性有一定區别，例如林紓翻譯的福爾摩斯故事特别認同罪犯的復仇主張，周作人則通過《玉蟲緣》的翻譯聯想到獲取財富手段要正當，周桂笙在《毒蛇圈》翻譯中宣揚的父慈子孝的主題等。 This paper discussed the translation of late Qing detective fiction through three case studies: A Study in Scarlet translated by Wei Yi and Lin Shu; In the Serpents’ Coils translated by Zhou Guisheng and “the Gold Bug” translated by Zhou Zuoren. Both Lin Shu and Zhou Zuoren’s translations aimed to be fit into the style and aesthetics of guwen, a traditional prose style of used in ancient Chinese texts, while Zhou Guisheng was interested in translating the Western detective story in the format of traditional Chinese novels. Meanwhile, the particular political and social reform context of the late Qing period also influenced the contemporary readers in their understanding of Western detective fiction. In Lin Shu’s translation, he was sympathized with the criminal and his enduring yet vindictive spirit rather than the detective Holmes and his scientific attitude. Zhou Zuoren encouraged his readers to gain their wealth in justified ways and Zhou Guisheng stressed the filial theme in his translation.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 近年來，美籍華人女作家嚴歌苓在國内越來越“走紅”。但人們關注得較多的，往往是她那些“虚構”型文本，如《扶桑》、《小姨多鶴》、《第九個寡婦》、《金陵十三叙》等。本文則選取《灰舞鞋》等有關“文革”題材的“穗子的故事”系列小説，從作品與作者生活經歷的重合度、小説的“自傳”色彩、時代的印象寫真、殘酷的青春記憶等方面，做較爲深入的解讀與剖析，并以此凸顯嚴歌苓有關“文革” American-Chinese writer Yan Geling is becoming more and more popular in Mainland China. However, most attention focuses on her fictional works, such as Fusang (Japan), Xiaoyi Duohe (Little Aunty Duohe), and Dijiuge guafu (The Ninth Widow). The present essay focuses on “Stories of Suizi, “a series of works on the Great Cultural Revolution. The discussion involves several aspects; the similarity between the author’s life and that depicted in the story, the autobiographical feature of the work, likeness of the image of the time, and the cruel memory of youth. The in-depth examination and interpretation of these aspects will highlight the value of Yan Geling’s “Impressionist” novels on the Great Cultural Revolution. 題材小説的“印象派”版本的價值與意義。

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. 針對歷來詬病清中葉才學小説中知識、學問、技藝内容者，或者持小説藝術的單一標準貶斥其價值者，本文提出從“技藝的文本化”角度重新理解作品特點，繼而由大量具體文例歸納出文本的技藝性質與製作方法。通過倡導對於文化語境的回歸，期冀推動才學小説的概念匡補與價值重估。 This essay revisits the “Fiction of Talent and Learnedness” of the middle of the Qing dynasty (ca. 18th century). The works in this “genre” have long been criticized for showing off knowledge, learnedness, art, and skills in their content and their value has been denigrated by critics who employ one single criterion. The present study takes a perspective of “texts of art and craft” to re-evaluate the characteristics of these works. Based on a paradigm of a large number of texts, it summarizes the nature of their craftsmanship and their production procedure. By advocating the restoration of its cultural context, we aim to revise the concept of “fiction of talent and learnedness” and to re-evaluate its value.
