Resumo:

Uptake of thiosulfate ions as an inorganic sulfur source from the environment is important for bacterial sulfur assimilation. Recently, a selective thiosulfate uptake pathway involving a membrane protein YeeE (TsuA) in Escherichia coli was characterized. YeeE-like proteins are conserved in some bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotes. However, the precise function of YeeE, along with its potential partner protein in the thiosulfate ion uptake pathway, remained unclear. Here, we assessed selective thiosulfate transport via Spirochaeta thermophila YeeE in vitro and characterized E. coli YeeD (TsuB) as an adjacent and essential protein for YeeE-mediated thiosulfate uptake in vivo. We further showed that S. thermophila YeeD possesses thiosulfate decomposition activity and that a conserved cysteine in YeeD was modified to several forms in the presence of thiosulfate. Finally, the crystal structures of S. thermophila YeeE-YeeD fusion proteins at 3.34-Å and 2.60-Å resolutions revealed their interactions. The association was evaluated by a binding assay using purified S. thermophila YeeE and YeeD. Based on these results, a model of the sophisticated uptake of thiosulfate ions by YeeE and YeeD is proposed.

Em meio aos Conflitos de Agência, os quais analisam custos resultantes da ramificação entre a propriedade e o controle de capital, surgem as práticas de governança corporativa. Perante isso, alguns órgãos passaram a atuar com o intuito de estimular boas práticas e garantir direitos mínimos aos acionistas minoritários. Há afirmações de que ações cotadas no Índice de Governança Corporativa (IGC) teriam uma distribuição diferenciada em relação aos dividendos das ações cotadas no Índice Bovespa (IBOV), sendo os dividendos maiores nas ações de empresas com boas práticas de governança corporativa. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi verificar se as empresas componentes do IGC distribuíram dividendos de forma diferenciada e se esses dividendos são maiores que empresas componentes do IBOV. O estudo se justifica pelo fato de que, atualmente, há volumes bilionários em negociações diárias na BM&FBovespa, ambiente em que a decisão de investimento deve sofrer influência dos indicadores de governança. Para a análise, foram coletadas as carteiras teóricas do ano de 2006 para ambos os índices. Foi utilizado como proxy a média ponderada dos dividend yields de cada ação tendo, como ponderação, o peso de tais ações dentro dos índices. Em seguida, realizou-se uma análise descritiva dos dados, seguido por teste de média entre as ponderações dos dividend yields dos índices. Foram encontrados maiores dividend yield para o IBOV, entretanto, concluiu-se no teste de média que não há diferença entre as distribuições de dividendos. Fica a evidência de que práticas de governança corporativa não implicam em melhores distribuições de dividendos.

Background. Xe article deals with the dialectical structure of play activity of preschool children. Xe dialectic structure is built with the help of structure-dialectic method which is based on the opposites, deYned in the course of content analysis. Xe paper shows that the dialectical structure of play is leveled. Xe analysis of play activity allows us to speak about the ability of preschool children to represent the dialectical structure of play. Xe paper reveals substantial features of each level and gives the explanation of the transition from one level to another. Objective. Xe paper aims to justify the possibility to develop diagnostic system for preschool children’s play activity development on the basis of the proposed structure. It can be designed upon the dialectical structure of play and the preschool children’s play matrix. Results. A model of the dialectical structure of a preschooler’s role-playing game, enabling to take into account the important structural components of the game, is proposed. Xe phenomenon of the semantic Yeld expressed in the merge (overlap) of the visible (perceptual) Yeld and the representative (imaginary) Yeld is considered. Xe diZerence between the semantic Yeld and an imaginary situation is shown. In the Yrst case the child is focused on the behavior of others, while in the second case he is focused on his own actions. Xe possibility to apply dialectical structure to the analysis of play activity in preschool children in order to build play practice is demonstrated. Conclusion. It seems advisable to develop diagnostic tools to assess the development of games for preschool children taking into account the dialectical structure of games.

Abstract Aim The aim of this report is to present a case of multiple calcified tuberculous lymph nodes found in a panoramic radiograph including a discussion of the differential diagnosis of this lesion from other soft tissue calcifications. Background Concomitant massive submandibular and cervical tuberculosis lymph node calcifications are relatively uncommon lesions and may be encountered on routine panoramic radiographs. Report This report describes the case of an asymptomatic 35-year-old patient whose dental radiographs showed findings which led to bilaterally, irregularly shaped, multiple calcified lymph nodes especially in the left submandibular and cervical area. Summary Because treatment is unnecessary for symptom-free calcified lymph nodes and the patient was unwilling to any further examination done, surgical removal of the calcified lymph nodes was not done. Introduction: Hypertension is a common non communicable disease worldwide. Studies suggest high prevalence of hypertension in low- and middle-income countries as Sierra Leone. This study aims to provide an overview of the current prevalence and management of hypertension in five peripheral health units (PHUs) prior to an intervention study. Methods: This study was a prospective baseline study in Yele, Tonkolini District in Sierra Leone, conducted from February 2022 till April 2022. Health care workers in charge of each facility were interviewed upon current hypertension management. Univariate analysis was conducted to report data. Chi-square testing was done to assess influence of variables on hypertension. Results: A total number of 112 patients were included in the study. Eighty-six were females which accounted for 76% of the sample. Median age of the sample was 40 (IQR 25-59). In total 38 (33%) patients had unknown hypertension and 4 (3.5%) patients had unknown malignant hypertension. Age above 40 years was significantly associated with hypertension (P<0.001). Health care workers indicated to not have access to a working blood pressure machine in 4 out of 5 facilities, antihypertensive medication was not available in 4 out of 5 facilities and referral practices for suspected hypertension cases were poor. Conclusion: This baseline study showed a high prevalence of hypertension in five PHU facilities near Yele, Tonkolili District, Sierra Leone. Challenges in current management of hypertension in PHUs near Yele involved and lacking availability of medical equipment such as blood pressure machines and medication.

Resumo:

Progressive disseminated histoplasmosis (PDH) is an increasingly common cause of infection in patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). We report 21 cases of PDH associated with AIDS diagnosed by lysis-centrifugation blood culture method. The most prevalent clinical findings were fever, weight loss, respiratory symptoms, and mucocutaneous lesions. Chest roentgenogram showed diffuse pulmonary infiltrates in 13 of 21 patients (62%). Brochoalveolar fluid has yelded positive culture in four patients only in medium with cycloheximide.

The planning, design, and performance of the Yele asphalt-core rockfill dam in Sichuan Province, China, are presented. The dam has a maximum height of 124.5 m, is located in a very seismic region with inclement climate, and is founded on a geologically complex foundation, partly resting on a deep and pervious alluvial overburden and partly on bedrock. With these site conditions only an embankment-type dam was considered feasible, and three different options were considered for the design of the impervious barrier: (i) earth core, (ii) concrete facing, and (iii) asphalt core. The third option was chosen. The design is based on extensive analyses and laboratory tests, and a special model test was performed to study the behavior of the connection between the narrow asphalt core and concrete plinth. An impoundment test was performed when the dam was 73 m high to test the imperviousness of the constructed core and the connections between (i) the core and plinth and (ii) the plinth and foundation cut-off wall. An extensive field monitoring program was implemented. Design predictions are compared with field performance observations of the core and its interaction with the adjacent transition zones.

Currently, sweet sorghum has presented great expansion of cultivation in traditional areas and new technologies sugar and alcohol sector. The aim was to to identify what agronomic traits can be used for indirect selection of genotypes with higher sugar yield. The work was conducted in the harvest 2014/2015, at Embrapa Agropecuária Oeste, in Dourados, MS. It were evaluated 25 genotypes in experimental design was a randomized block design with three replications. We evaluated the following agronomic traits: plant height, fresh mass, percentage of stem, leaves and panicles, dry mass, Brix, yield of juice and sugar. The F-test was used to check for genetic variability among genotypes. Phenotypic correlations among these traits were estimated, which are deployed through the path analysis, in direct and indirect effects, considering the yield sugar as the primary dependent variable. We observed that 92% of the variation in sugar yield was explained by the explanatory variables, value higher than in other studies and appropriate to explore the gains with indirect selection in sweet sorghum. The indirect selection based on Brix trait is the most effective way to obtain genetic progress in the sugar yield in sorghum genotypes.

This study aims to improve Students’ writing competence on fiction to the 4th grade students in Elementary School. This research conducted in the Cijantung 03 Pagi of public elementary school. The teaching learning process was conducted in 2 cycles. On the pre-research, students’ competence on fiction was still low. It yelled 55% of students or 20 of 32 students had lower score (below the minimum completeness criteria/Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimum), after teaching learning process on the first cycle, students ‘writing skill on fiction increased till 75%, then in the 2nd cycle increased to 95%. It can be concluded that using mind mapping technic can increased students’ writing competence on fiction.

AbstractThe objective of this study was to determine and evaluate the yield of four (4) diameter classes in function of quality of logs, in logwood processing of Cedrinho (Erisma uncinatumWarm.). 20 logs of four diameter classes between 46 and 85 cm were selected and classified in terms of quality, being 5 logs for each diameter class. Diameter class I resulted in the lowest yield and diameter class III showed the highest yield. Yield increased according to the diameter of the logs in classes I, II and III. Class IV logs with larger diameters had quality defects such as cracks and internal flaws, causing a small yield drop. It could be concluded that there was a correlation between diameter and yield.Keywords: Mato Grosso; sawmill; native wood; correlation. ResumoRendimento de madeira serrada em função de classes diamétricas e padrões de qualidade da tora. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar e avaliar o rendimento em diferentes classes diamétricas em função da qualidade das toras no desdobro do Cedrinho (Erisma uncinatum Warm.). Foram selecionadas e classificadas quanto à qualidade 20 toras em quatro classes diamétricas, entre 46 e 85 cm, sendo cinco toras para cada classe diamétrica. A classe diamétrica I apresentou o menor rendimento e a classe diamétricaIII apresentou o maior. O rendimento aumentou de acordo com o diâmetro das toras na classe I, II e III. As toras da classe IV, com maiores diâmetros, apresentaram baixa qualidade, com defeitos como rachaduras e falhas internas, causando uma pequena queda no rendimento. Weintrauboa yele new species (Pimoidae) is described and illustrated based on specimens collected in China. The taxonomic status and distribution of Weintrauboa insularis (Saito, 1935) new combination and of W. chikunii (Oi, 1979) are discussed and the former species is illustrated based on specimens from the Sakhalin islands. Parsimony analysis of morphological characters provides support for the monophyly of Weintrauboa and for its sister group relationship to the genus Putaoa Hormiga and Tu, 2008. Some comments on the phylogenetic placement of the recently erected family “Sinopimoidae” are provided.

Previous theoretical and empirical work leads to a prediction that the developmental sequelae of childhood trauma may be risk factors in the development of transliminality. 106 undergraduate students completed the Revised Transliminality Scale and the Survey of Traumatic Childhood Events. In support of the prediction, scores on the Revised Transliminality Scale correlated .39 ( p < .001) with the total scores on the index of childhood trauma. Follow-up analyses suggested that various sorts of childhood trauma could be interpreted for this group as related to transliminality: having one's house destroyed, robbed, or vandalized; being struck by someone within or outside the family; being yelled and screamed at by a caregiver; witnessing the physical abuse of a parent; and sexual abuse. Longitudinal study is required to sharpen evidence.

On January 29, 2021, a police officer with the Rochester, New York, Police Department pepper-sprayed a 9-year old Black girl who had been handcuffed and forced into the back of a police car. In the struggle that proceeded this moment, an officer yelled at the girl with obvious frustration, “You’re acting like a child!” In this essay, I consider how the girl’s quick retort —“I AM a child!”—interjected a truth into the struggle that had been all but ignored by the armed adults on the scene. I consider how the truth embedded in this girl’s call exposes the lies of law enforcement and, in doing so, lay the seeds of abolitionist imaginings—a call for a system, a world, that would treat a Black girl as if she were a child.

Maize has a significant economic impact all over the world. Fungi in the genus Fusarium that cause fusarium ear rot of maize have significant effect on the yeld quality and quantity. The main threat is the contamination of grain with the mycotoxins they produce - as these are harmful to humans and animals. Such mycotoxins are a group of secondary metabolites of varied structure, which belong mainly to trichothecenes, fumonisins and zearalenones. As no efficient chemical control read and pink rot in the field is possible, prevention relies on cultural practices and use resistant hybrids. Insects play an important role in the infection, which is why it is recommended to control their prevalence during growing season.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the growth in height, diameter and volume production of a eucalyptus clone at 24 months of age planted at different spacing. Values of circumference at soil height, circumference at chest height and the heights of all plants in the plots were collected at 6, 12, 18 and 24 months after planting. Using the collected data, the diameter values at ground and chest height and the mean height at each age were calculated. Rigorous cubing of the average tree in each plot was performed 24 months after planting to obtain the wood volume per tree and per hectare. The spacing did not present a clear pattern of influence on the total height of the plants. The final height was not affected by spacing. The effect of planting spacing on growth in diameter at soil height intensified from the first year after planting. Tree mean diameter increased with planting spacing, as well as the wood volume per tree. Wood volume per hectare was higher in the denser spacing.

La Réforme a provoqué une crise linguistique, tout aussi importante que doctrinale et interprétative, en particulier au sujet de la signification de l’Eucharistie du point de vue des mots, des choses, et des signes. Cet article montre dans quelle mesure la poésie de dévotion d’Anne Vaughan Lock (c.1534 – c.1590) tient compte des différentes pressions de ces débats, exercées par la théologie sacramentelle calviniste sur la communauté divine anglaise de Genève. Dans sa Méditation sur le Psaume 51, Lock présente la séquence de son sonnet comme le seul vrai sacrifice de louange que les véritables fidèles offrent à Dieu. En soulignant la puissance affective de la sainte Cène, Lock vivifie la théologie calviniste en tant qu’une manière de ressentir, et un mode de méditation poétique.

The Pterostichus pulcher species group of the subgenus Orientostichus Sciaky & Allegro is defined for P. pulcher Sciaky & Allegro and six new allied species. All seven species of this group are revised on morphological characters. Six new species are described from south of Sichuan province, China: P. pemphissp. nov. (type locality: Shuihaizi, Puge county, 27.33°N, 102.45°E), P. orbicollissp. nov. (Longzhoushan, Huili county, 26.79°N, 102.20°E), P. leosp. nov. (Shizishan, Jinyang county, 27.88°N, 103.23°E), P. liyuanisp. nov. (Luojishan, Puge county, 27.58°N, 102.39°E), P. condylussp. nov. (Yele, Mianning county, 28.96°N, 102.16°E), P. jialinisp. nov. (Jiamashi, Huidong county, 26.81°N, 102.68°E). Tritrichis chinensis Jedlička, syn. nov., a species previously misplaced in the subgenus Orientostichus, is excluded from the genus Pterostichus and confirmed to be a junior synonym of Synuchus nitidus reticulatus Lindroth, 1956.

Çalışma, İstanbul Müftülüğü Şerʻiyye Sicili mahkemelerinden Davudpaşa Mahkemesi para vakıfl arı üzerinde yapılan bir önceki araştırma sonucundan hareketle planlanmıştır. Bu kapsamda çalışmanın amacı, öncelikli olarak sicillerdeki başka mahkemelerde aynı yöntemle yapılacak araştırmalarda para vakıfl arının uzun dönemde ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal olaylar ile bağlantılarını ortaya çıkarmaktır. Devamında iki mahkeme arasında yapılacak karşılaştırma ile bulguların ne derece birbirini desteklediği sorgulanacaktır. Çoğunlukla 19. yüzyıl verilerinden oluşan ilk belgelerden sürdürülebilir seri elde edebilmek için 17. ve 18. yüzyıl verilerinin ağırlıkta olduğu Evkaf Muhasebeciliği Mahkemesi araştırma evreni olarak seçilmiştir. Evkaf Muhasebeciliği Mahkemesi'nde onaylanmış vakıfl ardan para vakfı işletim usulünü içeren 109 vakfi ye tespit edilmiştir. Bulunan vakfi yeler önceki çalışma ile tamamlandığında; 1491-1911 yılları arasında 312 vakfın incelenmesi ile 420 yıllık bir seri elde edilmiştir. Süreç içinde özünde aynı amaç için kurulan para vakıfl arının, kişilerin istekleri ve vakfedildikleri dönemlere göre başka özellikler gösterdikleri anlaşılmıştır. Bazı dönemlerde avarız sandıklarında kümelenmişler, zaman zaman oldukça düşük meblağlar vakfedilmiş, bir dönem bayındırlık işleri ön planda yer alırken diğer dönem eğitime ağırlık verilmiştir. Tüm bu davranışların nedensellikleri üzerinde durularak günlük hayata yansımaları değerlendirilmiştir.

Conduct books, or household manuals offering advice about marriage and the ordering of domestic relationships, attained their greatest popularity in early modern England between the late sixteenth century and the Civil War. Many of these works, including William Whately’s popular A Bride-Bush, which ran into three editions between 1617 and 1623, and William Gouge’s influential Of Domesticall Duties, which first appeared in 1622, originated as sermons and were written by puritan preachers. They are also a valuable source of information about the construction of ideal masculine and feminine behaviour in the early modern period. At the start of A Bride-Bush, which was based on a marriage sermon, Whately asserted ‘I will make the ground of all my speech, those words of the Apostle Paul, Ephes. 5. 23. where hee saith, The Husband is the Wives head.’ Towards the end of the book he noted that the male sex is ‘preferred before the female in degree of place & dignity, as all men will yeeld that read what the Scriptures speake in that behalfe’.

The experiments were conducted in field conditions, comprising two maize hybrids and two methods of detasseling, in the period 2014-2016 in a randomised block design. The seed yield was 3.64 t/ha, as average for all the hybrids and the methods of detasseling. “Suanito“ yielded 2.88 t/ha while “MAS 26K“ yielded 4.41 t/ha. The highest yield was obtained in 2015 (3.81 t/ha), then in 2014 (3.47 t/ha), while the lowest yield was obtained in 2016 (3.12 t/ha). Manual detasseling resulted in the seed yeld of 3.94 t/ha, whereas a significantly lower yield was achieved with mechanised detasseling (3.34 t/ha). There was a highly significant interaction found between the year and the hybrid, the year and the method of detasseling and the hybrid and the method of detasseling, whereas there was a significant interaction between the year, the hybrid and the method of detasseling.

Abstract To better understand the potential costs and benefits of prolonged parental care in gregarious species, we studied post-weaning associations in a marked population of mountain goats (Oreamnos americanus) monitored for 22 years. We calculated the occurrence and frequency of associations involving 1- and 2-year-old juveniles. We investigated (1) the influence of maternal characteristics and population size on the formation of post-weaning associations, (2) the short-term costs of associations on maternal reproductive success, and (3) the short-term benefits of associations on life-history traits of juveniles. We found that barren mothers associated more frequently with 1-year-olds than summer yeld and lactating mothers. Associations with 2-year-olds tended to increase the probability that a mother would be barren the following year. Post-weaning associations did not influence the body mass of newborn kids nor the body mass and survival of juveniles. We discuss how benefits for associated juveniles may appear later in life.
