Abstract The paper presents a practical example of improving quality and occupational safety on automated casting lines. Working conditions on the line of box moulding with horizontal mould split were analysed due to low degree of automation at the stage of cores or filters installation as well as spheroidizing mortar dosing. A simulation analysis was carried out, which was related to the grounds of introducing an automatic mortar dispenser to the mould. To carry out the research, a simulation model of a line in universal Arena software for modelling and simulation of manufacturing systems by Rockwell Software Inc. was created. A simulation experiment was carried out on a model in order to determine basic parameters of the working system. Organization and working conditions in other sections of the line were also analysed, paying particular attention to quality, ergonomics and occupational safety. Ergonomics analysis was carried out on manual cores installation workplace and filters installation workplace, and changes to these workplaces were suggested in order to eliminate actions being unnecessary and onerous for employees.

In this paper is presented the assessment of the workplace hazards for power plant "Kosova" A. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the work places based on the realized measurements of the conditions for safety and protection at work, classification and categorization of jobs with increased risk as well as measures for improving working conditions and preventing endangered and injured workers from injurious. Measurements of working conditions and assessment of workplace and workplace risk have been carried out by exploring, identifying, recording and analyzing any workplace in a riskiness case. With Application Software, all workplaces in which the measurements were performed are processed.

The objectives of this study were to assess the state of Kentucky’s workplace health promotion and occupational safety and health programs, to ensure the ability to comprehend any possible trends over the past six years in the state’s progress in offering workplace health promotion and health protection programs, to compare the results of this survey with the 2013 Kentucky state-wide assessment, and to identify gaps in Kentucky’s workplace health promotion and occupational safety and health based on Total Worker Health® (TWH) concepts. Using Qualtrics research software, the Workplace Health in America assessment was sent to companies located in Kentucky and having 10 or more employees. Participants were identified using Dun and Bradstreet’s Hoover’s database. The results showed that, as with the 2013 survey, larger workplaces significantly were more likely to offer workplace health promotion programs than smaller companies (X2 = 24.30; p < 0.001). However, more companies (78%) reported offering programs compared to the 2013 assessment (49%). Given the results of the current study as compared to the statewide assessment conducted in 2013, Kentucky’s WHP is moving in a positive direction; yet, there is still much to be done. There remains a strong need to provide cost-effective and accessible resources for all elements of TWH to small workplaces.

The optimal location of workplaces plays an important role in the structure of occupational safety. The design of the workspace should ensure the optimal distribution of functions between person and machine in order to create safe working conditions, reduce the severity of work and the level of production injuries. Most often, workplace planning is carried out manually, by simple calculation, and then the rationality of workplace planning is evaluated, based on statistics of industrial accidents and occupational diseases, as well as indicators of labor productivity, for example, the ratio of compliance with norms. To solve the problem of optimal placement in the work mathematical models are built that can take into account various regulatory restrictions and are simple for further software implementation. It is proposed to choose the theory of φ-functions as a basis, which can be characterized as measures of proximity of objects. Thus, the set task of optimal placement of workplaces is reduced to the task of mathematical programming. The objective function determines the criterion of optimality – the minimization of the area or perimeter that will be occupied by the objects. This formulation of the problem is relevant because the use of the smallest production area, taking into account safety requirements, is an economic condition for effective production management. The constraint on the relative location of workplaces is set using φ-functions, which defines the decision domain. That, when formalizing restrictions, you can take into account all regulatory safety distances between workplaces, equipment, walls, etc. Thus, the work explores an approach that will allow automatic planning of the placement of a large number of technological objects, workplaces in accordance with occupational safety standards. Use of the software application, which can be implemented on the basis of the φ-functions apparatus, will significantly reduce the time of workplaces planning and increase its efficiency.

In today's demanding working conditions, it is of considerable importance for employees to feel safe and happy in their workplaces in terms of their performance. Since employees spend a significant portion of their time in the workplace, the encouragement and development of personal relationships among colleagues and the establishment of communication related to work contribute to the emergence of workplace friendships. These friendships also lead to employees receiving support, feeling relaxed, and experiencing a sense of security. Employees who freely express their ideas in the workplace are more comfortable in implementing their creative ideas. This sense of confidence they feel is also reflected in their psychology as "safety." Therefore, through the workplace friendships they establish, employees can feel psychologically secure. As a result, their performance, especially in terms of creativity, improves. The aim of this study is to determine the mediating role of psychological comfort in the impact of workplace friendships on employee creativity in organizations. To achieve this goal, data was collected through a survey technique from 500 full-time white-collar employees working in companies operating in the furniture sector in Kayseri. The surveys were conducted through face-to-face interviews, and incomplete responses were eliminated, resulting in a total of 428 valid survey responses. Firstly, Cronbach Alpha values were calculated and confirmatory factor analysis was applied to assess the validity and reliability of the collected data. Additionally, skewness and kurtosis values were examined to determine whether the data followed a normal distribution. IBM SPSS, IBM AMOS, and PROCESS 3.2 software programs were utilized for data analysis. NBased on the findings, it has been revealed that psychological comfort plays a partial mediating role in the impact of workplace friendships on creativity. In this context, it has been concluded that workplace friendships not only support creativity but also serve as a mediator in enhancing psychological comfort.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address a deficiency in the literature by exploring the impact of negative workplace safety announcements on firm performance. The authors analyze the issue from a corporate social responsibility perspective and explore ways supply chain managers can contribute to improve firm performance through the development of safe working environments. Design/methodology/approach Utilizing a sample of 227 negative workplace safety announcements, this paper explores the implications of negative workplace safety announcements on the stock price of a firm using event study methodology. Findings The authors find that negative workplace announcements are associated with an abnormal decrease in shareholder value. Furthermore, the authors find evidence that negative workplace safety announcements have a more pronounced negative effect on firm value in the present environment than in any previous time period. Practical implications Operations managers need to play leading roles in ensuring safe working environments. The results provide the support needed to acquire the financial resources necessary to mitigate exposure to unsafe working conditions. Originality/value This study explores the impact of negative workplace safety announcements on a firm’s stock performance. It is the first large-scale study to look at public announcements of workplace incidents and to explore the impact of such announcements in the context of time.

The purpose of risk assessment is to provide information for decision-making. It compares the resulting risk obtained from the analysis with the risk criteria based on the legislation. If the level of risk is undesirable, the organization must take measures under the legislation to reduce or eliminate the risk. There are also cases where the risk assessment leads the company to a repeated analysis and the decision to terminate the investigation due to negligible, resulting risk. The paper focuses on using simulation as a supportive tool to minimize the risk in the workplace of injection moulding plants. It was eliminated bottlenecks and designed suitable injection moulding arrangements to ensure the safety and health of workers at work.

Nowadays, the use of digital is important in meeting the technological needs of the industrial revolution 4.0. The manual HIRARC form is less effective and efficient in terms of filling time. Based on observations, the manual use of the safety log book requires the supervisor to update the content every time. This shows that, filling information physically causes the risk of losing data that has been entered is very high and affects the effectiveness of safety management in the workplace. Therefore, the first objective of this study is to build a security management application and the second objective is to identify the effectiveness of using the application. This application is developed by combining two software namely glides and google sheet. While the second objective instrument is in the form of a likert-scale questionnaire on the effectiveness of using the application to respondents who are workplace users, namely students and lecturers as well as the management of the Occupational Safety and Health Committee and workshop supervisors. The results of the study show that two applications have been built, namely the Integrated Safety Management Application managed by the department management and the Safety Logbook Application used by users at the workplace, ie in the workshop or laboratory where they are combined in an integrated network which is integration and PDCA. While the results of the questionnaire show that the overall mean score is at a high level where this application can facilitate accident complaints to make reports to superiors better by workplace users. In conclusion, this application is flexible and dynamic in use, easy to maintain and suitable for use by organizations or users of different workplaces.

Background: Psychological safety is a key concern in the workplace as organisations continue to see increases in psychological injuries that have significant ramifications on individuals and workplaces. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated this issue in healthcare workforces facing extraordinary pressures. This preliminary study aims to enhance our understanding of the factors that healthcare workers value in relation to psychological safety in their respective healthcare settings. Methods: To achieve the research objective, qualitative self-reflection examples were conducted with 12 participants from various health professional backgrounds across public, private, and aged-care settings. The data obtained were thematically analysed using NVivo software (V 12), enabling the identification of key elements associated with psychologically safe workplaces. Results: The results revealed several significant elements that contribute to psychologically safe workplaces in healthcare settings. These elements include effective communication, organisational culture, leadership practices, performance feedback mechanisms, respect among colleagues, staff development opportunities, teamwork, and trust. The findings underscore the critical importance of these foundational elements in fostering psychological safety within healthcare. Conclusion: This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by specifically identifying the key elements that healthcare workers value in terms of psychological safety. By exploring a wide range of healthcare professionals’ perspectives, this research offers valuable insights into the unique challenges faced by healthcare workforces and the necessary conditions for fostering psychological safety. The implications of these findings are discussed in relation to the lessons they provide for healthcare employers, highlighting the potential for improving workplace wellbeing and performance.

The research was carried out to assess the academics’ awareness of occupational safety and health (OSH) at higher education institutions in Melaka. Questionnaires were the primary data collection tools used in this study. The cross-sectional design was used in this research. The survey was distributed to 200 respondents, and 151 valid responses were received from the higher education institutions in Melaka. The collected data were analysed using a structural equation modelling by partial least squares executed by the SMART-PLS software. The results showed that safety tools and equipment, safety policy, and safety procedures have a significant positive relationship with academics’ awareness at higher education institutions (p<0.05). However, safety training does not affect academics’ awareness of OSH at the workplace (p>0.05). This study enhances the OSH implementation strategies to ensure the safety of academics in the workplace. Hence, it will contribute to the development of a positive safety culture in the workplace.

The rise in the number of workers in gastronomy tourism has coincided with an increase in workplace accidents. New workers lack hazard identification abilities and fail to recognize dangerous events in the workplace. Thus, a two-fold goal has been established: (1) design and develop VR applications for spotting risks in the kitchen workplace, and (2) validate the VR application's effectiveness. The invention involved the 360-degree camera and VR software, and it was validated with multiple experts who had long working experience. The VR technology was found noteworthy as it received positive acceptance in the hospitality business. Purpose This paper aims to examine the impact of problem-solving activities, emotional experiences and contextual and personal factors on learning from dealing with software-related problems in everyday office work. Design/methodology/approach To measure the use of problem-solving activities, emotional experiences and the contextual factors of problem characteristics and learning in situ, a research diary was used. To measure team psychological safety (contextual factor) and personal factors, including the Big Five personality traits, occupational self-efficacy and technology self-efficacy, the authors administered a self-report questionnaire. In sum, 48 students from a software company in Germany recorded 240 diary entries during five working days. The data was analysed using multilevel analysis. Findings Results revealed that asking others and using information from the internet are positive predictors of self-perceived learning from a software-related problem, while experimenting, which was the most common activity, had a negative effect on learning. Guilt about the problem was positively related to learning while working in the office (as opposed to remote work), and feeling irritated/annoyed/angry showed a negative effect. Surprisingly, psychological safety had a negative effect on perceived learning. Research limitations/implications Major limitations of the study concern the convenience sample and the disregard for the sequence of the activities. Originality/value This study contributes to the limited empirical evidence on employees’ problem-solving activities and informal workplace learning in the software context. To overcome the shortcomings of previous studies using retrospective assessments and in-lab observations, this study uses the diary method to investigate in situ.

In the industrial world, especially in fabrication industries, problems related to work and conditions triggering hazards and risks of workplace accidents can arise. Workplace accidents can be caused by two main factors, namely unsafe acts and unsafe conditions. Based on the preliminary study conducted by researchers on 15 production employees at PT. CF in Serang Regency, the results showed that 66.7% of employees have poor safety behavior. This study aims to determine the influence of safety climate and safety leadership on safety behavior among production employees at PT. CF in Serang Regency. The method used in this study is descriptive and associative methods with a quantitative research approach. The population of this study is all employees in the production department at PT. CF. The total number of production department employees is known to be 203 people. The sample size to be used in this study is 134.7 rounded to 135 employees in the production department at PT. CF. This study uses data analysis method with smart PLS software version 3.0 Partial Least Square (PLS) test. The results of the study show that there is an influence of safety climate on safety behavior among production employees at PT. CF in Serang Regency, as seen from the p-value of 0.002. There is an influence of safety behavior on safety behavior among production employees at PT. CF in Serang Regency, as seen from the p-value of 0.000.

Health and safety problem can be described by statistics it can only be understood by knowing and feeling the pain, suffering, and depression. Health and safety has a legal responsibility to protect it for everyone who can affect in the workplace. This includes manufacturers, suppliers, designers and controllers of work places and employees. Work injury is one of the major problems in manufacturing and production systems industries; it is reduced production efficiency and affects the cost. To gain flexibility from a traditional manufacturing system and production efficiency, this paper is about the application of estimating technology to preview and synthesis of Lost Time of Work Injuries in industry systems aims to provide a safe working environment for all employees to achieve safe workplaces, safe systems of work, and safety understanding within our workforce. Our industry oftenhas a poor record in dealing with modern and development techniques. Thus, as one of the targets, this leads to perform a helpful program plane to provide guidelines of management, employees to eliminate hazards, given the enormous cost of occupational personal damage in industry and to develop safe work methods work site. This work proposed a general methodology for constructing an explanatory software system to review and analysis workers injuries in a work site. The program language used is Axes, which suitable to shows categories of incidences and estimates costs to workers, employers and society of workplace injuries and work-related ill health. Data of the system was collected in the State Company for Woolen Industries in Al-Kadhumiaa in Iraq.The resulting is to provide a simple obvious outline system to evaluate lost time injury and the net-costs on safety interfering at the company level to reduce occupational morbidity and generating a helpful system to estimate of the total costs to employers and workers of workplace accidents and work-related ill health.

Abstract Introduction This study aimed to clarify the expectations of emergency medical service providers (EMSPs) from occupational health nurses (OHNs) to develop an emergency response application for OHNs. This work was supported by JSPS KAKENHI Grant Number JP22K11252. Methods This qualitative study conducted five focus group interviews with 19 EMSPs (3–5 people per group) from March to April 2023 to determine their expectations from OHNs regarding emergency response at their workplaces. The transcripts were analyzed based on qualitative content analysis using the software NVivo. This study was conducted after obtaining approval from the ethics committee of the author’s affiliated institution. The authors have no financial conflicts of interest disclose concerning the study. Results EMSPs expected OHNs to “respond to patients” and “provide information and ensure safety at the workplace where the event occurred.” For patients, the following steps were considered important: confirming and ensuring safety, checking vital signs, and providing an initial response to injured and ill individuals according to standardized protocols. In addition, other cited approaches to expedite treatment included medication records, medical history, information regarding the workplace and directions to the workplace where the event occurred, and response to pre-arrival calls. Discussion and Conclusion EMSPs considered the emergency response immediately after illness onset and information about the scene, the injured patient, and the mechanism of illness onset important. Accordingly, they expected OHNs to intervene based on the aforementioned considerations.

Manufacturing enterprises face a strategic challenge in managing risks, as safety concerns can result in huge costs for employee wellbeing and business success. However, there is no clear link between using diverse instruments to assess and measure safety performance and the culture and climate of safety in the workplace, which is likely due to differing perspectives on the topic. This study explores the influence of safety culture and climate on safety performance and on the mediating role of employee engagement in the Ethiopian manufacturing sector. This study was conducted using a quantitative research methodology 368, where three hundred and sixty-eight respondents from five large-scale industrial manufacturing enterprises were selected through purposive sampling. A combination of techniques was used, including structural equation modeling, growth paths, and correlation matrix, and these were performed using the SPSS/AMOS v. 24 software suites. These methods established a causal relationship between safety culture, safety climate, and safety performance. The study’s main finding is that safety culture significantly impacts safety performance, which is followed by safety climate. Additionally, employee engagement played a significant mediating role between safety culture and safety performance, as well as between safety climate and safety performance. Based on these results, policymakers and practitioners in large-scale manufacturing enterprises in Ethiopia should prioritize improving the safety culture and climate of their workplaces to enhance safety performance and overall safety.

Background The Nigerian Oil and Gas construction industry faces challenges in incident prevention due to conflicting factors, including inadequate resource allocation, prioritization of quality and production over safety, communication gaps, insufficient supervision, poor workplace design, low risk perception, limited management commitment, worker incompetence, deficient design systems, and planning deficiencies. This research aims to develop a human factor engineering (HFE) model that supports the prevention of losses in Oil and Gas construction activities in Nigeria by assessing the influence of human factors on workers' behavior and organizational safety culture. Methods The study involved skilled construction workers with a minimum of two years of experience in upstream, downstream, and midstream sectors. Data collection utilized a descriptive study design with self-administered, structured questionnaires. IBM SPSS AMOS Structural Equation Modeling software was used for data analysis. Results The results indicate statistically significant Pearson's correlation coefficients between human factors and organizational safety culture, with p-values of 0.003, 0.002, 0.004, 0.009, and 0.002 for workplace, task, personal, organizational, and design factors, respectively. The structural equation regression model reveals statistically significant human factors and organizational safety culture, with path coefficients of -0.888, 2.630, -1.59, 4.645, and 0.492 for personal, organizational, workplace, design, and task factors, respectively. Conclusions The research concludes that engineered human factors contribute to improved safety performance in the Oil and Gas construction industry. To enhance safety, the study recommends that the Nigerian government establishes a construction safety board, organizations implement integrated contractor construction health and safety management systems, and workers take personal responsibility for their safety.

Although the advancement of technology can provide a better and safer working environment to people, sometimes, overconfidence in technology can lead to unavoidable accidents and human errors in the workplace. This study aims to determine the effects of familiarity with office equipment on human errors and accidents in the workplace. A total of 150 surveys were collected and analysed with correlations analysis usingSPSS software version 19.0. The results show that although familiarity can reduce the occurrence of human errors, it cannot reduce the occurrence of accidents in the workplace. While it is now understood that improving one's familiarity with office equipment can potentially reduce their mistakes at work, companies should still be observant of other factors that can potentially reduce accidents in the workplace. This study sheds light on potential possibilities to improve the occupational safety, health and environment of organizations.

This research was carried out to investigate the relationship between psychosocial hazards and safety outcomes among workers engaged in a range of industrial construction occupations in Rivers State. Questionnaires were adapted from various studies and were distributed. Two-hundred and ninty-five (295) respondents had a complete and usable questionnaire. A conceptual model was posited for this study, the model comprises of equipment and environment, work schedule, role organisation, social aspect, organisational culture, and work life balance as the workplace psychosocial hazards and near miss, accident, absenteeism, and job performance as the safety outcomes on the study. Structural equation modelling was then used to test the conceptual model and test the hypotheses using SPSS AMOS software. The result from the study shows that all six workplace psychosocial hazards used in the study had direct significant relationship with the accident safety outcome at p-value (< 0.05). The result also shows that environment and equipment, role in the organization, social aspect and work-life balance showed significant relationships with near miss safety outcome at p-value .05. The study also inferred that equipment and environment, work schedule, role organisation, social aspect, and organisational culture are factors in the workplace that may be associated with absenteeism. The impact of psychosocial hazards experienced by construction workers is an area of growing research as this study has shown, which is yielding results that suggest overall work safety on the construction site should consider psychosocial aspects of work.

Introduction: Safety plays a significant role in the oil and gas industry, where many accident-causing factors exist in its product cycle. This study aims to evaluate the level of safety culture in the operational areas of South Zagros Oil and Gas Production Company (SZOGPC). Method: In this descriptive-analytical study, a standardized safety culture questionnaire containing 50 questions related to 5 areas of education, workplace, safety priority, information exchange, and management commitment was used. All employees in the company's operational areas were selected as a sample, and the questionnaire was distributed among them. Five-point Likert scales were used to record answers. After collecting the data, their coding was done in SPSS software version 23. Findings: The mean safety culture score in Parsian operational area is higher than in other studied operational areas. Furthermore, the lowest level of safety culture is related to the operational area of Sarkhun and South Gashu. The mean safety culture component of all operational areas was 3.06±0.248 out of 5, which indicates the mean safety culture among the employees of operational areas. Among the components, safety priority has the highest score, and the workplace has the lowest score. Conclusion: The amount of safety culture in the SZOGPC is moderate, and the managers of this company should move towards increasing this practical safety component. Employees' strong positive safety culture will facilitate the organization's movement to achieve higher safety standards.

Resilient agility is a novel concept that refers to the combined resilience-agility capability that allows an actor to successfully perform in rapidly changing contexts. Change dynamics, at all levels, increase uncertainties and responsibilities for employees augmenting the need to strengthen the self via resilient agility. This study examines employee resilient agility as anteceded by supervisors’ safety, coworkers’ safety, workplace belongingness, job satisfaction, willingness to embrace organizational change, and creativity. Respondents are from multiple organizations, industries, and regions of the United States. Analyses were carried out utilizing PLS-SEM software. Findings indicate that supervisors’ safety, workplace belongingness, willingness to embrace organizational change, and creativity have substantial effects on explaining and understanding employees’ resilient agility. In contrast, the effects of coworkers’ safety were insignificant. This study (a) contributes to the nomological network of resilient agility by examining a set of its key antecedents and (b) suggests that drastic organizational restructuring (e.g., significant changes in the relative proportion of remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic) may negatively impact both relational-based constructs in organizations and employees’ ability to rapidly and effectively respond to change. Theoretical and practical implications as well as limitations and future research are discussed.

Abstract Introduction Visual impairment is a problem that affects thousands of people. Although it is possible for a visually impaired person to perform many occupations, adequate training, technological assistance and emotional support are essential. Ergonomics can address many of the issues such as the relative ease of positioning, lighting and workplace design. Some modifications can bring quality of life and safety. Objectives Review the main ergonomic adaptation measures reported in the literature in order to promote better working conditions and safety measures for the visually impaired. Methodology Exploratory, descriptive, qualitative, non-systematic literature review study. Databases used: PubMed, ScienceDirect; ResearchGate. Final sample of nineteen studies published between 1999 and 2023 written in English and Portuguese. Results the main restructurings listed were Accessibility facilities and assistive technologies; Screen reader that captures information from a computer and sends it in real time to a speech synthesizer or Braille terminal; Voice recognition software installations, Monitors with enlarged screens; extension software; Adequate lighting, magnifying glasses in addition to recommendations regarding signage and unobstructed areas. Discussion The observed restructuring measures seek to be based on the principles of theoretical references of the ergonomic analysis of work and aimed above all at bringing ease of movement, greater safety for the visually impaired and, consequently, better working conditions. Conclusion Employment rates for visually impaired people are still low and need to be expanded. Improvements regarding ease of movement within the workplace, adaptation regarding the use of electronic equipment and other types of equipment, in addition to safety itself, still need to be better developed.

Background: The prevalence of workplace violence in the healthcare sector is a problem that is frequently ignored and underreported. The performance of healthcare workers who have been the target of violence may suffer, which may have a negative effect on patient satisfaction and health. Aims & Objectives: The purpose of the current study was to determine the prevalence of workplace violence (WPV), risk factors for violence against healthcare workers, and their experiences regarding the same. Methodology: It was a cross-sectional study conducted on 157 hospital staff at Tertiary Care Medical College of Uttarakhand. Data was gathered using a semi-structured, self-administered questionnaire that was modified from the ILO, ICN, WHO, and PSI. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 20). Results: Factors like age, gender, job profile, lesser work experience, night shifts, and fewer staff on duty were found to have a positive association with workplace violence. It was observed that the majority of incidents took place in the ward, and the patient’s relatives were the attacker in most of the cases. It was also seen that the majority of Hospital staff did not get bothered by the incident except by staying super alert while dealing with other patients or their relatives. Conclusion: The study concludes that while caring for patients, Hospital staff are at risk of being victims of aggressive and violent situations. To reduce this problem, strategies like training staff in order to handle such incidents in the future should be brought into practice. Laws should be made stricter & assaulting staff on duty should be made a cognizable offense with serious consequences & heavy penalties. Also, the young budding MBBS students should be trained by incorporating these strategies, laws & policies in the CBME curriculum

Purpose: There has been a recent uptick in reports of workplace bullying, which has the potential to have an impact on productivity in manufacturing firms. Employee performance (EmPer) indicators such as psychological resilience (Psyche) and emotional intelligence (EmoI) have been found over the years, but their interplay with other factors has been poorly studied. Studying the mediating and moderating functions of Psyche and EmoI in the context of workplace bullying and employee performance was the primary goal of this research. Design/methodology/data analysis: employees of manufacturing SMEs in southwestern Nigeria completed 512 online surveys, with each construct measured using an adopted and modified scale from existing studies. Additional analyses were performed on the collected data using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) software. These analyses included regression, factor analysis, structural equation modelling with the bootstrapping technique, reliability, validity, moderation, and model fit indices. Findings: According to the study's findings, workplace bullying is positively associated with employee performance, emotional intelligence, and psychological resilience. It was also found that psychological resilience moderates the relationships between bully-EmPer and EmoI-EmPer, and that the bullying-EmPer relationship is partially mediated by mental health factors. Originality/value: the current study makes a valuable empirical contribution by analyzing how workplace bullying affects performance in a manufacturing setting using a unique heuristic model. This study is the first to examine the mediating and moderating effect of psychological resilience on the link between bullying, EmoI, and EmPer among Nigerian manufacturing firms. Practical implications: Even the most modest SMEs are subject to the well-established interaction between society and enterprise. As a result, managers of employees have an obligation to build bullying-free workplaces that promote safety, safeguard employees' basic rights, and, ultimately, increase their efficiency on the job.

The present study aims to design and validate a scale to assess the Safety Engineering Systems (SES) practices in Major Hazardous Industries (MHI). Based on the primary components identified through an empirical literature review, a survey instrument was developed and distributed among the employees of sample MHI's in Karnataka. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA), was conducted to measure the validity and reliability of the questionnaire. Using 'R' software, Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was carried out to confirm the results of EFA. The outcome emphasizes the relevance of SES prominence in risk analysis of hazardous industries.

COVID-19: Assessment of vaccination and perception of safety in the workplace – A brief empirical report Objective: The approval so far of three vaccines against COVID-19 and the recommendation of the Standing Committee on Vaccination on the participation of company doctors create good prerequisites for the desired comprehensive vaccination of the population. This requires a willingness on the part of employees to get vaccinated. The aim of this article is to generate information about the assessment of vaccination and the associated perception in the workplace setting. As the risk of severe disease progression increases with age, the focus is on a consideration of older people. Methods: The cross-sectional survey was conducted as an online questionnaire using the LimeSurvey tool at the end of 2020. Employed persons aged 18 years and older were surveyed. The subsequent data analysis using IBM SPSS 21® software was both descriptive and inferential (ANOVA). Results: Almost one in two respondents (n=199) reported concern about becoming infected with COVID-19 and that they would feel safer at work if most of the population were vaccinated. 45.3 % reported feeling more optimistic about the current situation because of the prospect of a vaccine, and 33.3 % said that this made it easier to comply with contact restriction rules and recommendations. Inferential statistics show that older individuals (≥ 50 years) do not differ significantly from middle-aged (35–49 years) or younger individuals (≤ 34 years). Persons working from home estimate the risk of becoming infected to be significantly lower than persons in the office. Conclusion: The vaccination of a majority of the population – as well as working from home – would increase employees‘ perception of safety in the workplace. Vaccinations in a workplace setting offer a great opportunity to support the federal government‘s vaccination strategy. Keywords: COVID-19 – coronavirus – vaccination – workplace – prevention

The tendency of increasing of radiation sources power in metallurgy leads to an increase in the level of thermal radiation at the crane operator workplaces. The state of their health is characterized by a decrease in physical performance, the occurrence of colds, and occupational diseases of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the thermal radiation regime of the crane operator workplace for further justification of the choice of the method and means of thermal protection. To assess the thermal irradiation of the metallurgical crane cabin, along with the method of building the thermal irradiation plot, the finite element method was used which was integrated into the automated software package ANSYS, into its plug-in Fluid Flow (Fluent) designed to build models of convective energy transfer by a liquid or gas flow. Flow turbulence is described by the Shear Stress Transport (SST) model. The article examines the thermal radiation situation in the steelmaking shop, which determines the choice of means to ensure an optimal microclimate at the crane operator workplace. It was revealed that the thermal radiation and the temperature of the railings of the metallurgical crane cabin significantly exceed the maximum permissible level, as a result of which it became impossible to choose a climate system that provides for a comfortable air temperature inside the cabin. To reduce the thermal load on the designed climate system, thermal protection elements are introduced into the design of the metallurgical crane cabin, such as a heat-reflecting screen of the floor and side wall and double glazing of the front wall. Then a high-temperature industrial air conditioner was selected, the efficiency of which was confirmed by the results of computer simulation. Thus, for a reasonable choice of the climate system of a metallurgical crane cabin, it is required to have rational combination of the methods and means of thermal protection used at the equipment design stage.

This paper, conducted through the literature reviews of safety culture models and safety culture dimensions and the application of the management mechanism of the Taiwan Occupational Safety and Health Management System (TOSHMS), proposes a new Omnidirectional Safety Culture Model (OSCM). Four railway companies in Taiwan served as the questionnaire survey subject, and the safety culture of the current railway industry was profoundly investigated. Furthermore, utilizing AMOS analysis software, the thesis verifies the hypotheses by inspecting the structure model with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).It was indicated in the research that the railway employees’ evaluation of safety culture Significant differences are noted between age and most safety culture dimensions other than “Safety Encouragement and Punishment,” “Performance Measurement,” and “Procurement Management.” In addition, job satisfaction, working environment satisfaction, safety and health policy satisfaction, working efficiency, and possibilities of workplace injuries bear obvious relevance to many safety culture dimensions. The goodness of fit of four safety factors and eighteen safety culture dimensions are confirmed to be acceptable, considering the evaluation result of safety culture structure on all models and synthesizing overall fit indexes. It is ascertained that this model fits better and the result is effective.

The construction industry is commonly perceived as high-risk and involves a large workforce. The COVID-19 poses an additional risk in construction projects to occupational health and safety. DKI Jakarta Province is the epicenter of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia. This research examined the COVID-19 impact on occupational health and safety in construction projects. A quantitative approach was used, an online distribution questionnaire was conducted to construction workers in DKI Jakarta, with 74 workers participating, and the correlation analysis was using the software IBM SPSS. The result shows that the COVID-19 pandemic increases the risk of occupational health and safety and workers’ anxiety. However, it has had an indirect positive impact on workers’ behavior. Increasing workers’ awareness of occupational health, safety, and healthy lifestyles. The findings of this research provide evidence that the COVID-19 pandemic is a driving force for workers’ behavior changes and raises awareness of workplace safety and health concerns regarding construction projects.

Safety culture as an organizational factor has an essential role in preventing occupational injuries and diseases. In this descriptive-analytical study, the relationship between organizational safety culture, job stress and satisfaction has been investigated to have a better understanding of the effect of this organizational factor on employee job stress and satisfaction. Three valid tools, including the Safety culture questionnaire, standard job stress questionnaire (JSQ), and Standard Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, were used. The study population consisted of 210 workers working in 13 production halls of an automotive industry who were selected by a simple random sampling method. After data collecting, SPSS software version 22 was used for data analysis, and AMOS software version 24 was used for confirmatory factor analysis. The results show a significant relationship between trained and untrained groups and safety culture (p = 0.002), job stress and education level (p = 0.006), and job satisfaction and education level (p = 0.011). Safety culture score was significantly different in trained and untrained groups (p = 0.002). Factor analysis showed that a workplace with higher safety culture could lead to less job stress and more job satisfaction in employees. Based on the results, safety culture affects job satisfaction and job stress. Also, we found safety and health education is one of the factors affecting safety culture, job satisfaction, and stress. Safety culture could result in less job stress and more job satisfaction in employees. Improving it will improve the safety and health situation and ultimately increase job satisfaction and reduce job stress.

Perceiving discrimination in workplace practices psychologically damages employees and affects their work performance. The current study aims to find differences in perceived diversity practices (i.e., equal representation and developmental opportunities and gender diversity promotion) and the psychological safety of diverse groups in the workplace. Further, the study investigates the relationship of equal representation and developmental opportunities, gender diversity promotion, and psychological safety with employee contextual performance. A sample size of (n = 536) respondents was collected from the private banking sector in India, and was further analyzed using statistical tools, such as factor analysis, correlations, analysis of variance, and regression analysis. The findings indicate differences in gender and tenure diversity regarding “equal representation and development opportunities”, and “gender diversity promotion.” Furthermore, “equal representation and development opportunities,” and “psychological safety” showed a significant negative relationship with the employee contextual performance. Further, no association between perceived “gender diversity promotion” practices and “contextual performance” was found. The novelty of the current research is unlike previous research; the study highlights that excess psychological safety, equality in representation, and development opportunities to have “workforce diversity” make employees aggressively explicit and disengage them from additional work behavior. The findings of the study and application of SPSS software for the analysis of the employee’s perception, behavior, and performance will aid managers and leaders in better decision making for employees; business growth; effective human resource and business management; and for building a healthy, collaborative, and sustainable work environment in the private banks and similar organizations.

In this study, researchers designed a functional decision supporting model for workplaces for managers and showed its application by implementing it in health, safety and environment fields.
Researchers used Excel software to demonstrate the ease of use of this method. This model is designed to help managers for decision-making to select and allocate resources to optimize risk of irreversible and unacceptable risks. In this regard, detailed quantitative risk assessment methods and techniques AHP expert’s extraction, classification and has been structured; to help managing workplaces risks and reducing the effects other than representing the applications of multi-criteria decision making techniques especially Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique, and in the end, to attribute resources in the best possible way. This model comes as a decision support system and is used to ease, the accuracy of decisions and reassuring them.
This study suggests the use of multi-criteria decision-making techniques in large-scale projects and organizational risk management process for managers and reassuring them in terms of efficiency and effectiveness of steps taken to reduce and control occupational risks in the workplace and promise reduction irreparable effects for both organizations and for society, and to optimize the allocation of limited resources of organization. To carry out all stages of computational and analytic hierarchy process technique, Excel software was used in this study to show that this technique with capacity is also applicable in various companies.

The definition of risk in the obstetric structure and its impact on a particular health phenomenon determines the model of work aimed at increasing safety for patients and staff. Preventable events are used as a measure of problems in different sectors, in the organization of work, which also determines the behavior of managers from different hierarchical levels. These are events that would not have happened if there were no strong exposure to a factor or gaps in standard health interventions in obstetric care. Methods: a survey was conducted among medical persons in obstetric structures of the city of Varna. The data is processed using statistical software. Results and discussion: significant results relevant to the definition of risks in obstetric practice have been identified. Proper management of risk situations requires an impact on the causes of complications, which increases the quality of the medical service and ensures patient safety. More than 80% of the risks are determined by acute complications during pregnancy and childbirth, by the urgency and time to manage them. Conclusion: obstetric care requires a continuous audit of the activities, structure and resources and the application of written rules for all possible and rare situations, consistent with the established guidelines and rules of Conduct, which ensure patient safety and workplace safety for employees, in accordance with the legal framework defining medical practice.

Abstract Introduction: Cotton ginning is an important industry in Central India, employing a significant number of workers. The cotton-ginning industry is associated with various occupational health hazards, including exposure to cotton dust, which can lead to respiratory problems such as byssinosis. In addition, cotton-ginning workers are also exposed to workplace stress, which can have negative impacts on their physical and mental health. Aims: The aim of this cross-sectional study is to assess the health status of cotton-ginning workers in Central India. Methodology: A total of 285 cotton-ginning workers from various factories in Central India were recruited for this study. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, occupational characteristics, presence of byssinosis, and workplace stress were collected through a structured questionnaire. The Roach and Schilling criteria for byssinosis were used to assess the presence of this byssinosis. Workplace stress was assessed using the Workplace Stress Scale, which is a validated tool for assessing stress in occupational settings. Data were analyzed using R software 4.2.2. Results: The majority of cotton-ginning workers were female (71.2%) and had a primary level of education (51.3%). Most workers (77.54%) had been employed in the industry for 1–5 years, and the majority of workers (55.8%) worked as helpers. Only 4.21% of workers reported having byssinosis. The majority of workers (63.51%) reported lower levels of workplace stress, while a small proportion (3.16%) reported severe levels of workplace stress. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the health status of cotton-ginning workers in Central India is relatively good. However, there is a need to implement appropriate occupational health and safety measures which are inclusive of all workers, not just machine operators.

Main purpose of this work is to show how easy and economics an ergonomic/comfort based approach, in re-design a manual assembly workplace, can be; authors, using a new comfort/ergonomic evaluation criterion, analyzed a workstation and identified the critical issues under ergonomic/comfort point of view and finally gave several guidelines to re-design the workplace, implementing minor modification, and improve work-safety, work-quality and productivity. The postural analysis was performed by non-invasive and especially inexpensive methods, based on cameras and video-recorder use and by photogrammetric analysis; DELMIA® DHM software has been used to perform all simulations; comfort analysis was performed by the software developed by researchers of Departments of Industrial Engineering of Salerno: CaMAN®. The test case is an automatic assembly machine that has been modeled and used for virtual postural analysis. Main results of this work can be found in a very good numerical/experimental correlation between acquired/simulated postures and real ones, and on the powerful use of an objective comfort evaluation method, based on biomechanics and posture analysis, for giving to designers the guidelines to re-design a workplace and a work-cycle. This kind of approach seemed to be very powerful in re-designing the work-place and in re-scheduling the work time-sheet because it allowed to improve an ergonomic corrective action with minor costs for company. Obtained results demonstrated the validity of re-design hypotheses through the increase of all comfort indexes and the improvement of workstation/operator productivity.

Background Incident-reporting systems are designed to obtain information about events and situations affecting patient safety. These incidents can be used to inform individual and organizational learning and improvement opportunities for quality and patient safety. Aim This study aims to evaluate incident reporting at the Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) since the implementation of Datix and the staff’s behavior towards incident reporting. Methods This is a prospective, mixed methods study. Incident-reporting system reports are used to evaluate the volume of incident reporting before and after implementing the new software. A questionnaire was developed to assess the attitude of hospital staff members to reporting incidents in general and the use of Datix in particular. Results Incident reporting increased in 2017 and 2018 by 51% and 57%, respectively, using Datix compared with the previously implemented software. JHAH has 3812 active employees, with nearly 60% of them using Datix. The study received 377 survey responses (response rate approximately 10%). We received a majority of positive responses about the workplace safety culture and the value of the system. Conclusion Implementation of the Datix reporting system resulted in an increased number of incident reports. An action plan was put in place that may improve incident reporting by further increasing awareness regarding the importance of reporting and supporting more training.

Every organization should provide a safe and healthy workplace for all stakeholders by putting “people before profit”. Such a workplace must be consciously created, assessed, and internally examined through regular audits before the government conducts their inspections. Business owners, managers, and employees should know that the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections do not always come with a warning, as inspectors can enter a business at any day or time without scheduling their arrival. As such, all employees must work safely and be prepared for an unannounced inspection. Every business should have a formal checklist for audits and daily usage on a periodic basis to ensure the safety of their workers in a healthy work environment. The benefits of implementing an effective safety and health program can be many, including higher optimism of the workforce, improved company reputation, and lower Workers’ Compensation Insurance rates. This paper provides an overview of common safety measures in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements. Data, statistics, examples, checklist recommendations, and audit suggestions are provided for managers and human resource professionals to internally assess the organization on a periodic basis to proactively prevent accidents, injuries, and possible citations by the federal government or state health inspectors. Managers must pay even closer attention and provide additional training for underage school children that work part-time as they are more vulnerable and not allowed to use certain machines and heavy equipment in the workplace. Leaders and managers must develop and emphasize a “people before profit” mindset to create an organizational culture that is focused on safe work practices. It is important that all managers and human resources professionals understand that all USA companies must provide their employees with a safe and healthy work environment. Furthermore, these professionals must know the OSHA regulations and state laws which are applicable to their firms and industries so that the organization can be in full compliance with the requirements. Of course, we recommend that managers and firms go above and beyond the law to put “people before profit” in the organization’s culture. The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act of 1970, which is enforced by OSHA, has done an excellent job of getting managers and human resource professionals to make sure their places of work are as safe as possible. They have produced many great informational content and training materials that are freely available for all workers, managers, owners, and corporate executives to use in their pursuit of a safe and wholesome workplace. Consequently, OSHA standards and rules have become a part of corporate America, which has been a positive approach. A practical example that most American workers are familiar with is the “Fire Safety” procedures as all employers have a Fire Prevention Plan. Consequently, most firms and institutions in the United States regularly practice for fire safety drills; as such, it has become a part of their organization’s culture. And so should be the mindset of putting “people before profit”.

Background: Fire outbreak in a healthcare facility presents enormous challenge and a need for rapid response. The purpose of this study was to examine fire safety (FS) knowledge of workers and preparedness measures in Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Nigeria.Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 27 buildings and 310 employees from different units and departments, recruited by convenient non- probability sampling technique. A walk-through observational checklist and self-administered questionnaire were used to collect data which was analysed with SPSS software, version 20. Association between knowledge of FS and respondents’ working experience and FS training was measured using χ2- test. P ≤0.05 was assumed to be statistically significantResults: The highest proportion of participants were administrative staff 93 (30%), followed by medical doctors 80 (25.8%) and nurses 63 (20.3%). Only 28 (9.0%) had received training on FS, 109 (35.2%) knew how to operate a fire extinguisher, while 139 (41.9%) had knowledge of the location of fire extinguisher in their workplaces. Twenty-six (8.4%) knew the emergency number(s) to call if fire occurs. Only 107 (34.5%) of them had good knowledge of fire safety. Training on FS was significantly associated with knowledge of fire safety (p=0.026). All the buildings lacked necessary measures for FS.Conclusion: FS knowledge and level of preparedness were unsatisfactory in the hospital, which may constitute serious threat to the safety of workers and patients. The hospital management should implement regular FS training programmes for the workers to improve their knowledge, as well as put in place other FS measures.

Background: The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic had a significant influence on people's health, economics, social, and political life. The infection has spread around the world, increasing the stress and challenges faced by healthcare personnel everywhere. Women health workers were actively engaged in the prevention, promotion, and protection of Covid-19, holding important positions as doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, and contributing important role in various other aspects; this virus had an impact on the women health workers' personal lives, mental, physical, and biological health. Aim and Objective: To explore the challenges faced by women health providers confront during Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: Structured questionnaire was administered among 100 women healthcare providers (nurse, radiographer, laboratory workers) who are working in the different healthcare settings in Aizawl district, Mizoram using online open data kit website. The quantitative data is processed and analysed with the help of Ms Excel and SPSS software. Results and Conclusion: The study found that women healthcare providers are facing difficulties in balancing work and personal life, adjustment to changes in lifestyle, decrease of interest in work, irregular supply of PPE and fear of exposure. Thus, the respondent suggested continuing working with good supportive equipment’s is necessary so as to execute their duties efficiently. The purpose of the study to describe the nursing practices related to the administration of chemotherapy and aims to assess the level of competence among nursing professionals, identify challenges encountered while working with chemotherapy, and evaluate the safety conditions in their workplace. Methods. This study presents a cross-sectional design using a quantitative method. The participants in this study are nursing specialists actively engaged in handling chemotherapy drugs in three prominent clinics in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which offer medical care to patients with oncohematological and oncological conditions affecting the respiratory, urinary, and digestive systems. A total of 70 completed questionnaires were collected from nursing professionals working in these clinics. The data collected was statistically analyzed using STATA 14 statistical software. The analysis focused on assessing educational qualifications, workload, workplace safety climate, and the complexity of nursing practices for patients undergoing chemotherapy. Results. The majority of participants are relatively young professionals with limited experience in working with chemotherapy drugs and no specialized training in this field. Overall, participants displayed a reasonable understanding of breeding conditions, the effects of chemotherapy drugs, the use of PPE and the implementation of preventive measures when handling them. However, there was a lack of awareness regarding the proper transportation of chemotherapy drugs and the requisite protocols for the disposal of medical and biological waste generated by patients receiving chemotherapy. The study revealed that clinics where participants were interviewed offered mentoring and peer support programs. According to participants, the primary challenges in working with chemotherapy revolved around caring for patients experiencing chemotherapy-related side effects, mainly due to the high workload and the inherent toxicity of chemotherapy. Nevertheless, most participants indicated that workplace safety conditions were maintained at a high level. Conclusion. This study provides valuable insights into the practices of nursing specialists involved in administering chemotherapy in multiple oncology clinics within the Republic of Kazakhstan. It sheds light on the experiences of these professionals and offers a comprehensive understanding of the existing conditions and challenges faced when delivering chemotherapy to patients.

BACKGROUND: Human errors cause accidents in the workplace. Screening workers at employment can prevent future accidents from happening. Two important tools that can be helpful in screening are determining the emotional intelligence score and personality traits score of the workers. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence, personality traits and safety behaviors in metal industries workers. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional survey. Confirmatory factor analysis was performed to determine the relationship between the components of emotional intelligence, unsafe behaviors, and personality. To collect data for this study, Five-Factor Goldberg questionnaire, Bar-On Emotional questionnaire and Safety behavior questionnaire were used. The collected data were entered into software (SPSS version 22) and refined. RESULTS: The results of this study showed that there was a significant positive correlation between personality traits, emotional intelligence and safe behaviors (p-value = 0.000). The confirmatory factor analysis showed that personality traits influence safe behaviours. Also, studies have shown that emotional intelligence has a positive effect on safe behaviours. The amount indicators of goodness of fit (GFI), Comparative Fit index (CFI), Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) and root mean square error approximation (RMSEA) were 0.944, 0.970, 0.965 and 0.061, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that personality traits and emotional intelligence influence safe behaviours in the workplace. Employers can use these two tools in the employment phase and prevent future human-related accidents.

ObjectivesOccupational noise exposure is a major cause of hearing loss worldwide. In order to inform preventative strategies, we need to further understand at a population level which workers are most at risk.MethodsWe have developed a new questionnaire-based algorithm that evaluates an individual worker’s noise exposure. The questionnaire and supporting algorithms are embedded into the existing software platform, OccIDEAS. Based on the tasks performed by a worker during their most recent working shift and using a library of task-based noise exposure levels, OccIDEAS estimates whether a worker has exceeded the full-shift workplace noise exposure limit (LAeq,8h≥85 dBA). We evaluated the validity of the system in a sample of 100 construction workers. Each worker wore a dosimeter for a full working shift and was then interviewed using the OccIDEAS software.ResultsThe area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.81 (95% CI 0.72 to 0.90) indicating that the ability of OccIDEAS to identify construction workers with an LAeq,8h≥85 dBA was excellent.ConclusionThis validated noise questionnaire may be useful in epidemiological studies and for workplace health and safety applications.

The main purpose of this paper is to explore the reasons why some people wash raw meat before cooking. In addition, people's attitudes towards general food handling practices and whether they attach importance to food safety are analyzed from different perspectives. According to a Google form survey, researchers were asked about their food safety and hygiene practices in the kitchen, the type of meat they usually wash, the reasons they wash meat, the amount of time they spend cleaning meat, the methods they use to clean up their workplace afterwards, and their attitudes towards cooking food elsewhere than at home. Through the analysis of Excel software, it was found that the majority (82%) of respondents consider their food safety very important. The report also showed that respondents did not wash most meat, but when they did, fish and poultry were the most commonly washed. The practice of washing raw meat seems to be more popular among the elderly, with the most common reason being that respondents did not respond to wash the meat because they thought it was already clean. Finally, respondents' attitudes toward food safety were not strongly related to whether they washed raw meat or not.
