Flestir landsmenn þekkja einhver kvæði sem Sigurður Þórarinsson jarðfræðingur hefur ort við grípandi lög eins og til dæmis „Að lífið sé skjálfandi lítið gras“ og „Þórsmerkurljóð,“ en færri vita að hann átti auðvelt með að kasta fram vísum og stökum við ýmis tækifæri ef svo bar undir. Þær einkenndust flestar af notalegri kímni en voru aldrei rætnar eða meiðandi. Ég ætla í þessu greinarkorni að birta nokkrar vísur eftir Sigurð og segja frá tilurð þeirra eftir því sem föng eru á.

Resumo:

The paper compares facsimile copies of manuscript pages of the two elder versions of the medieval Icelandic historical work “Book of Settlements” (Landnámabók): AM 107 fol. for the Sturlubók version and AM 105 fol for the Hauksbók version. A technical comparison is facilitated by the fact that both these manuscripts from the Arnamagnæan Collection in Reykjavik are written in the same hand, being copies made in the mid-17th century by the renowned Icelandic scribe Jón Erlendsson from non-surviving autographs of those versions. We have determined the ratio of the formalized text (introductory characteristics of persons, genealogical lists, and topographic information) to vísur and þættir. The analysis using the proposed methodology leads to an unambiguous conclusion that both of the investigated versions of the “Book of Settlements” go back to the same exemplar.

Resumo:

The Austrfararvísur (Verses on a Journey to the East) could be defined as a poem of borders: in these vísur Sigvatr Þórðarson, the skald of Óláfr the Saint, narrates his crossing of various geographical, political, and religious borders. Austrfararvísur are preserved in Snorri Sturluson’s Óláfs saga helga and concern the famous episode of Sigvatr’s visit to Västergötland, where he attempted to mediate a peace deal between King Óláfr Haraldsson of Norway and the king of Sweden. The text describes dramatic moments and inhospitable places that Sigvatr experienced in his travel from Norway to Sweden, where an immense forest still serves as a natural border today. This was also the natural border that the Norwegian dynasty traversed when, in prehistoric times, Swedish kings moved from Sweden to Norway. Now Sigvatr follows the same path, but in the opposite direction.

Resumo:

TEMA: alfabetização e reabilitação dos distúrbios da leitura e escrita por metodologia fono-vísuo-articulatória (Método das Boquinhas - JARDINI, 1997). Esta metodologia de aprendizagem alia inputs neuropsicológicos, como os sons/fonemas, às letras/grafemas, às boquinhas/articulemas. OBJETIVO: alfabetizar e/ou reabilitar crianças que apresentavam distúrbios na leitura e escrita, de etiologia variada, com resultados consistentes a curto prazo, num trabalho de parceria entre fonoaudiólogo e psicopedagogo. MÉTODO: participaram deste estudo 30 crianças, com diagnósticos de dislexia, TDHA, atraso cognitivo leve, limítrofes e psicoses infantis, havendo co-morbidades entre os casos. As crianças variavam entre 7 a 10 anos de idade, todas com atrasos de pelo menos seis meses na escolaridade regular. Participaram da pesquisa as crianças, seus pais e professores, que avaliaram-nas por meio do mesmo questionário, no início do tratamento (T0), após 3 meses (T1) e após 6 meses de intervenção (T2), segundo a leitura, interpretação de textos, ditado, cópia da lousa, atenção, concentração e segurança para aprendizagem. Foram aplicados questionários de múltipla escolha, sendo qualificadas em incapaz, intermediária e capaz para a aprendizagem do quesito avaliado. A abordagem terapêutica adotada foi a aplicação do método fono-vísuo-articulatório (Método das Boquinhas - Jardini, 1997), com duas sessões semanais realizadas pela fonoaudióloga e pela psicopegagoga. Além da intervenção as crianças continuaram sua escolaridade na rede regular de ensino que freqüentavam. RESULTADOS: houve expressiva evolução em todos os itens avaliados, analisados pelos pais e pelos professores. Após os 3 primeiros meses de intervenção as crianças passaram para nível intermediário de aprendizagem e após 6 meses apresentaram-se capazes em cada item avaliado. Estes resultados não só propiciaram melhor rendimento escolar, como beneficiaram-nas em relação à auto-estima para aprendizagem, podendo melhor enfrentar suas diferenças. CONCLUSÃO: com a metodologia fono-vísuo-articulatória, após 6 meses as crianças estavam aptas à dar continuidade no processo regular de ensino, acompanhando os demais alunos de sua classe.

Resumo:

Os autores apresentam o estudo da função vísuo-espacial em uma criança com paralisia cerebral (PC). Apoiados nas teorias de Luria e Piaget, justificam a existência de tal distúrbio em PC. A criança-propósito deste estudo apresentou elementos teórico-práticos que embasaram esta idéia. Face às limitações dos testes disponíveis, propomos novo teste aplicável tanto em papel quanto em computador. Trata-se de quatro linhas dispostas equidistantemente em diferentes inclinações. A simplicidade do teste permitiu seu uso em computador, o que ampliou e aprofundou a investigação, acrescentando novos elementos ao estudo.

Resumo:

Greinin fjallar um samsetningar með forliðnum atóm- og byggist aðallega á gögnum úr Ritmálssafni Orðabókar Háskólans. Fjöldi samsetninga með þessum forlið varð til eftir seinni heimsstyrjöldina, einkum í tengslum við skáldsöguna Atómstöðina (1948) eftir Halldór Laxness og atómskáldin svokölluðu. Í þessum samsetningum kemur fram margvísleg merkingarvísun. Orðstofninn vísar til fagurfræði atómskáldanna, nútímaljóða og módernisma almennt og til andrúmsloftsins í upphafi kalda stríðsins þegar módernisminn varð til. Nýyrðið og samheitið frumeind virðist ekki geta fengið sams konar afleidda merkingu í samsetningum heldur fær aftur bókstaflegu merkinguna ‘grunneining’ í öðru samhengi en þegar talað er um eðlis- eða efnafræði.

Many scholars have assumed that stanzas 8 and 9 in Hávamál, the so-called sæluvísur, carry significant information about the poem’s ethical message. The history of their interpretation has, however, not so far been afforded due attention. On the surface the sæluvísur may appear quite easy to understand; nevertheless, it has often been pointed out that conventional interpretations are riddled with paradox. In this article I take a few illustrative examples from this history and contest a few unconventional interpretations, especially those of Ivar Lindquist and Guðmundur Finnbogason. I also put forward a new interpretation. This interpretation relies on a system of concepts – especially the distinction beween action and state, and between agent and patient – which puts the logical form of the two stanzas in a new light. According to this revised interpretation, stanza 8 tells us that being sæll (happy) requires praise from others, even if the praise is duplicitous. Basically, we should only try to change what others say about us, not what they really believe, because the latter is too difficult. Stanza 9, on the other hand, tells us that to be sæll one must be able to trust one’s own judgement, because the advice given by others can be evil or dangerous. Finally, I argue that this interpretation should make us question the common idea that the ethical message in Hávamál is akin to virtue ethics. More likely, the poem affirms ethical egoism and tries to identify ways to experience pleasure or enjoyment in an unfair world. The meaning of the word sæla or sæll, in and of itself, does not provide a reason to read anything else into the original text.

Afi minn, Þorlákur Sverrisson var fæddur í Klauf í Meðallandi 3. apríl 1875. Hann lést í Vestmannaeyjum 9. ágúst 1943. Þorlákur var kvæntur Sigríði Jónsdóttur í Skálmarbæ í Álftaveri og bjuggu þau þar frá 1902 til 1911, en þá fluttu þau til Víkur í Mýrdal og bjuggu þar til ársins 1925. Börn Sigríðar og Þorláks voru Sigríður Guðrún, f. 13. apríl 1902, Óskar Jón, f. 5. nóvember 1906 og Guðrún f. 20. september 1920 en hún var móðir mín. Þau eru nú öll látin. Veturinn 1913–1914 dvaldi Þorlákur í Reykjavík og nam ljósmyndafræði hjá Magnúsi Ólafssyni, ljósmyndara. Stundaði hann myndatökur um skeið í Vík. Eftir að hann flutti til Vestmannaeyja hætti hann fljótlega myndatökum. ...
