Texto completo da fonteFrom the end of the 1870’s, Higher Education in France underwent important changes linked to the reforms of the Third Republic. The Faculty of Arts of the University of Bordeaux, took up residence in the “Palais des Facultés” - one of the very first in France – in the town centre of Bordeaux. We can observe the upheavals which affected not only the teaching staff and the students who were constantly increasing in numbers, but also the university curriculum and the subjects taught. The Faculty of Arts of Bordeaux acquired a certain specificity within a national movement: the innovation of “Social Sciences” with Emile Durkheim or the development of Colonial Geography being just a couple of examples. More than a century later, in the 1960’s, The Faculty of Arts of Bordeaux distinguished itself yet again with the writing of the History of Bordeaux under the supervision of Charles Higounet, the first of its kind for a metropolis whether in France or in Europe. A prosopographical study distinguished certain characteristics of the body of Professors, who had often studied in the “Grandes Ecoles”, and for whom the Faculty of Arts of Bordeaux could prove to be a stepping stone towards a position in Paris or the achievement of a long university career. The study of the students’ records shows the mass movement which affected Higher Education as well as its feminization and a certain diversification of social origins. The Faculty of Arts of Bordeaux, ministerial Headquarters during the two World Wars, was involved in important political issues, from the Dreyfus case to May 68 whilst playing an important role in Aquitaine and remaining open to the outside world, especially in overseas territories of Hispanic culture. The Faculty of Arts of Bordeaux is thus a reflection of the gradual democratization of the access to education and its limits, but also of the structural changes within French society from the end of the nineteenth century to 1968

Texto completo da fonteThe subject of this essay is to look into the dynamics of the science faculty of Nantes University from the point of view of the exact ones who are involved in the researching and lecturing process : the scholars. The way they describe their scientific practices and their professional environment is analysed over time, taking into consideration local circumstances. About fifty professional histories have been collected from scholars of the faculty of Science and Technology of Nantes. This faculty represents a unique case of a recent faculty in a town without a previous University. This thesis brings to light the increasing complexity of the work in the last thirty years. This is particularly caused by a change of the students' demographic backgrounds and their increasing numbers. It is also caused by a diversification of the researching techniques and practices, which creates tensions between the activities of the profession, which are crucial to the dynamics of the Science department

Texto completo da fonteWe had to deal with the problematic of " the University in the City " through which the students are often given dynamic abilities for the areas where they are set up. So as to understand how the connections between the university areas and their surroundings work, we studied the connection between the physical areas and the social practices. We selected the area of Faculté des Sciences de Saint Jérôme in Marseilles in our study. After analysis, it appears that the social part that the University could play cannot be deduced as a simple creative strategy or as one of the University setting up. Student presence does not make student life. This one is most a discreet reality, hardly comparable to the wanted symbolic effect. So the instrumentalisation of the student population appears uncomfortable because the “instrument” is not so easy to use, as living and reacting in a very specific way according to its surroundings

Là encore, nous avons cherché à expliquer la variation rencontrée à partir des données sociales des étudiants.
A travers l'analyse de ces deux formes de diversité des étudiants –leurs pratiques linguistiques, leurs représentations–, nous avons voulu saisir le lien entre l'hétérogénéité des étudiants à l'entrée, leurs caractéristiques sociales et leurs chances de réussite, d'échec ou d'abandon en fin d'année.

Texto completo da fonteThis research is based on a corpus of French language test paperworks written by first year students in Humanities at the University of Rouen. We question the link between linguistic heterogeneity, social heterogeneity and university failure. Linguistic variation is studied at both scales: quantitative and qualitative. The qualitative one takes into account questions about otherness and communicative competence. We put forward the notion of "competence sociolangagière". In the second part, the diversity of students representations is measured. This analysis is based on the results of a survey conducted by questionnaires and the results of interviews. Once again, we questioned the variation dimension through the social characteristics of students. Our results allowed us to describe the nature of the link between linguistic heterogeneity, social heterogeneity, students representations and students faculty to succeed, fail or give up university at the end of the academic year

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis studies the history of Paris doctors to the XVIIIe siècle, through the case of that of the “doctors regents” of its medical faculty. Doctors shared the same medical formation necessary to gain access to the quality of “regent” and to affiliation to a powerful community, under the supervision of its senior member. As teachers and researchers, they got access to erudite institutions, took part in the modernization, circulation and control of the medical knowledge not only in relation with the other medical practitioners but also with the neophytes. Considering their private clientele, the doctors regents took a stand in the therapeutic market with other health-related occupations and “charlatans”. The inventories after death show the adaptation of their living environment to their professional needs (choice of occupational location, ownership of cabinet-libraries, carriages and horses). They reveal also how much their profitable employment contributed to their integration to the upper Parisian bourgeoisie. Lastly, notarial deeds helps documenting the “docteurs-régents” customers and reconstituting their exchanges with the patient-customers, of the nature of the medical services covered by medical fees. The doctors regents also acted as technical advisors and administrators of the public health services. The monarchy, concerned by its subjects’ medical control, on an everyday basis and in times of crisis, mobilized them here and there. Due to their expertise, they are required for the transformation of hospitals, and for the organization of medical assistance not only in the capital city, but also in the rural and military areas and in the colonies. The “docteurs-régents” combined professional strategies and occupational freedom to extend their realms of agency and to remain at the summit of medical occupations’ hierarchy
