The media celebration of media owner Ted Turner's career and personal biography reflects important shifts in the image of American corporate leadership over the past thirty years.Even aspects of Turner’s life we would normally consider private, such as his sex life and his marriage to Jane Fonda, have taken on this very public function.As a result Turner has served as a transitional figure between two competing visions of corporate identity and responsibility: paternalist managerialism and the “real entity” theory of the firm on the one hand, and on the other, antimanagerial market adventurism and the new economic theory of the firm as a nexus of contracts.The story of how Turner has come to serve this gender-charged iconic function helps clarify how the balance of representational power continues to shift back and forth between these two visions during a period of considerable upheaval in the social, legal, and symbolic construction of the American corporation.

Abstract Ontological Pluralism is the thesis that there are different ways of being. In his recent paper, ‘The only way to be’, Trenton Merricks has presented an important challenge to Pluralism in the form of a dilemma. The purpose of this paper is two-fold. First, I argue that Merricks’s argument against Pluralism, as stated, is unsound. I will argue that one horn of the dilemma is unproblematic for contemporary versions of Pluralism, defended by Jason Turner and Kris McDaniel, that are formulated in the framework of Ted Sider. However, my second task is to provide a new dilemma against Pluralism, which, when combined with Merricks’s arguments, constitutes a sound argument against all forms of Pluralism. The new dilemma will reveal that the real problem with Ontological Pluralism is its conflict with Ted Sider’s principle of Purity.

The following article is a personal reminiscence of the planning and making of the 24-part television documentary series Cold War (CNN, 1998–9). It reveals the vision of TV mogul Ted Turner in getting a series made on what many felt to be an unpopular subject, the influence of the award-winning British television documentary series The World at War (1973–4), and the contribution of the producer Jeremy Issacs, who was behind both series. Cold War was able to take advantage of recent access to former Eastern bloc archives and drew on the expertise and authority of young Cold War historians. The article considers the initial broadcasting of the series and its impact.

O texto propõe que o hipertexto deve ser visto conceitualmente como um mecanismo cognitivo e também enunciativo. Ted Nelson desenvolveu o mecanismo digital, inspirado em sua própria experiência de escritor, possibilitando que os escritores nesse meio se livrassem da linearidade imposta pela tecnologia do papel. O hipertexto, neste artigo, é discutido à luz da teoria da complexidade, em um diálogo com a teoria da enunciação de Benveniste e a teoria da integração conceitual como foi proposta por Fauconnier e Turner (2002). Defende-se a idéia de que, considerando-se a linguagem como um sistema adaptativo complexo (SAC), a hipertextualidade seja compreendida como uma instanciação do princípio da recursão, visto como uma propriedade básica dos SACs. Exemplos de diferentes tipos de textos (incluindo imagens e sons) são fornecidos para mostrar como a hipertextualidade funciona no processamento textual.

In this article, the researcher discusses present verbs. Present verbs are typically employed in the simple present tense to describe events that occur on a regular basis in the present. This article discusses the use of present verbs in twelve news articles on CNN.com. The goal of this research is to determine how many present verbs are used on CNN.com and which present verbs are most often utilized. I chose CNN.com because CNN.com is one of the largest mass media in the world. Mass media was first initiated by Ted Turner and Reese Schoenfeld and was first launched in 1980 and is a subsidiary of WarnerMedia. It is also the first TV channel to broadcast news 24 hours non-stop. The data is collected using a qualitative method, specifically by collecting news from CNN.com. The review reveals the variety of present verb uses in 57 (fifty-seven) news articles on CNN.com in 2020 and the variety of present verbs that are often utilized.

Previous issue date: 2006-08-25<br>This study has involved the interaction among knowledge in very distinctive
areas, or else: informatics, engineering e genetics, emphasizing the building of a taking
decision backing system methodology.
The aim of this study has been the development of a tool to help in the diagnosis
of chromosomal aberrations, presenting like tutorial model the Turner Syndrome. So to
do that there have been used classification techniques based in decision trees,
probabilistic networks (Naïve Bayes, TAN e BAN) and neural MLP network (from
English, Multi- Layer Perception) and training algorithm by error retro propagation.
There has been chosen an algorithm and a tool able to propagate evidence and
develop efficient inference techniques able to originate appropriate techniques to
combine the expert knowledge with defined data in a databank.
We have come to a conclusion about the best solution to work out the shown
problem in this study that was the Naïve Bayes model, because this one presented the
greatest accuracy. The decision - ID3, TAN e BAN tree models presented solutions to
the indicated problem, but those were not as much satisfactory as the Naïve Bayes.
However, the neural network did not promote a satisfactory solution.<br>O estudo envolveu a interação entre áreas de conhecimento bastante distintas, a
saber: informática, engenharia e genética, com ênfase na metodologia da construção de
um sistema de apoio à tomada de decisão.
Este estudo tem como objetivo o desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta para o
auxílio no diagnóstico de anomalias cromossômicas, apresentando como modelo tutorial
a Síndrome de Turner. Para isso foram utilizadas técnicas de classificação baseadas em
árvores de decisão, redes probabilísticas (Naïve Bayes, TAN e BAN) e rede neural MLP
(do inglês, Multi- Layer Perceptron) com algoritmo de treinamento por retropropagação
de erro.
Foi escolhido um algoritmo e uma ferramenta capaz de propagar evidências e
desenvolver as técnicas de inferência eficientes capazes de gerar técnicas apropriadas
para combinar o conhecimento do especialista com dados definidos em uma base de
dados.
Chegamos a conclusão que a melhor solução para o domínio do problema
apresentado neste estudo foi o modelo Naïve Bayes, pois este modelo apresentou maior
acurácia. Os modelos árvore de decisão-ID3, TAN e BAN apresentaram soluções para o
domínio do problema sugerido, mas as soluções não foram tão satisfatória quanto o
Naïve Bayes. No entanto, a rede neural não promoveu solução satisfatória.

The aim of this thesis is to find an explanation of the obstacles to deploying Article 7 TEU measures as we see it today. This explanation will be sought in the events in this field starting from the formation of the provision, all the way up to this writing moment. The explanation will be searched for by using the research question: What in the process offorming and amending Article 7 TEU can explain the hesitancy and hardship to deploy the article today? Four hypotheses for explanations are identified; 1) Article 7 TEU is a political rather than legal provision, and is thus infiltrated with political subjectiveness rather than legal objective- ness, 2) lessons from the Haider affair have caused hesitancy, 3) adding intermediate steps and alternative procedures have weakened the nature of the provision, and 4) the nuclear notion has falsely created hesitancy to take action and oblivion of the softer mechanisms of the provision. This study concludes, that to fully understand the Article 7 TEU struggles as of today, both political implications, intermediate steps, alternative mechanisms and lessons from the Haider affair has to be taken into account. This com- plexity does then confirm the sufficiency of the explanation: Many factors has played a role in forming the hesitancy and hardship to deploy Article 7 TEU, but the intergovernmental and political nature of the provision explains why it still have not been fully implemented. This is although the scope and appli- cation of the provision fully fits the problems of democratic backsliding, that permeates some of the member states of the EU.

This is realized through the definition, analysis and discussion of the concepts looking for the dialog between Schechner and Turner. The research was developed by reading and analysing the major volumes published by these authors, what is Schism and Continuity; Forest of Symbols; The Ritual Process; Dramas, Fields and Metaphors and From Ritual to Theater by Turner and made by Schechner Environmental Theater; Essays on Performance Theory; Between Theater and Anthropology; The Future of Ritual and Performance Studies. Was not found any work like this. It is an inedited and presented an important review on Schechner‟s and Turner‟s written. The ritual concept needs this multiplicity look to take a new breath and look up different sea-lines. This job has a methodological richness because points out precisely the fact that the research belongs analyse the field "between" the theatre and anthropology. It is not remand to any discipline and the same time belongs to all of them. This is a bibliographic study what can provide theoretical support for various research fields.<br>Este trabalho visa à análise do diálogo interdisciplinar e liminar estabelecido entre Richard Schechner e Victor Turner através da definição, análise e discussão do conceito de ritual em suas obras. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida através da leitura e fichamento dos principais volumes publicados destes autores, sendo eles Schism and Continuity; Forest of Symbols; The Ritual Process; Dramas, Fields and Metaphors e From Ritual to Theater de Turner e de Schechner Environmental Theater; Essays on Performance Theory; Between Theater and Anthropology; The Future of Ritual e Performance Studies. Não foram encontrados registros de trabalhos semelhantes. Sendo esse um trabalho inédito e que oferece uma revisão dos escritos destes dois autores. Discutir o ritual por esta perspectiva multifacetada é abrir o leque de novas possibilidades de discussão de um conceito tão importante e que tendo sido já tão discutido necessita de novo fôlego para ganhar novos horizontes. Trata-se de um trabalho considerado liminar, pois sua riqueza metodológica está justamente no fato de a pesquisa localizar-se no "entre" o teatro e a antropologia. Não se prende a nenhuma disciplina e ao mesmo tempo pertence a muitas. Trata-se de um estudo bibliográfico que poderá servir de aporte teórico para os mais variados campos de pesquisa.

Despite numerous studies and reviews on faculty turnover, there appeared to be no systematic investigation of factors which influenced voluntary turnover among full-time faculty members in Nigerian educational institutions such as those studied here. In addition, it appeared that Nigeria lacked faculty turnover data for use in any meaningful research study. Therefore, this study investigated factors perceived to be influential among full-time faculty members leaving their jobs or institutions voluntarily. The six facets of the Job Descriptive Index developed by Smith, Kendall, and Hulin as well as a questionnaire about commitment development by Mowday, Porter and Steers elicited data concerning: present work, pay, promotion, supervision, coworkers, job in general, and commitment. Two hundred and eight (84.21%) of 247 full-time faculty members from ten selected colleges of technology/polytechnics in Nigeria became involved in this study. Means, frequencies, percentages, one-way ANOVA set at .05 level and Scheffe Test of Multiple Comparison set at .10 level were used for the analysis of data. Based on the findings, it could be established that full-time faculty members in Nigerian Colleges of Technology/Polytechnics are dissatisfied with their conditions of service. The most influential factors for voluntary turnover were pay and opportunities for promotion. Conclusions drawn from the study indicate that the demographic characteristics (gender, age, level of education, years of college teaching experience, salary grade level, college/polytechnic of employment, and region of origin) affect full-time faculty members' work attitudes. Further studies are recommended to determine policies and practices suitable for retaining the most capable full-time faculty members in Nigerian Colleges of Technology/Polytechnics.

Previous issue date: 2016-11-23<br>This qualitative research is directed to comprehension of corporeity experiences to women whom live with Turner’s syndrome (T.S.). T. S., or gonadal digenesis, is a genetic disorder related with total, partial or rotation on second pair of female sexual chromosome (XX) in major of body’s cells. It Happens during embryonic development, excluding hereditary or parents age correlations. It has been fomenting aspects to construct this project: a few views for “being in Turner’s Syndrome”, the non-deeply of subjects questions involving most important repercussions, such as low born indices, short stature, sexual immaturity and infertility; in addition, certain, the treatment (Growth Hormone application, anabolic ingest and estrogen-progesterone replacement) and the illness itself – when assorted organics affections arise (in these cases, surgical procedures can be necessary. It’ll participate 8 women diagnosed with Turner’s syndrome, whom live in São Paulo Capital, or had been there during the research effectuation (was adopted intentionality criterion, thus there is representative quantity of participants on local choose). There interview was Northfield by these questions: 1) How has been hang out with Turner’s Syndrome? 2) How was, for you, the diagnostic moment? What did you think? What did you feel? 3) How is hang out with Other views? Through these, was constructed the comprehensive synthesis and analysis of related livingness. The work contributed for knowledge dissemination about the Syndrome, in its dissociated nosological character. The way as the health area professionals attend they was reported essential; also the image and expectative that family breeding around the Syndrome, permeated by its knowledge about. The no-clarify can increase the angst of entering in a new universe. It’s hoped that others researches improve the comprehension concerning to how the parents are been per passing by being-father, or being-mother of a Diagnosed with Turner’s syndrome daughter; or deal with the professionals health area comprehension about the Phenomenon and the adopted posture<br>Esta pesquisa qualitativa voltou-se à compreensão das vivências da corporeidade para mulheres que convivem com a Síndrome de Turner (S.T) - refere-se à modificação genética advinda da deleção total, parcial, ou alternância no segundo cromossomo do par sexual feminino (XX) na maioria das células do corpo. Acontece durante a formação embrionária, não tendo relação hereditária ou de faixa etária dos pais. São fatores que fomentam o estudo: o pouco olhar para o “ser na Síndrome de Turner”; o não-aprofundamento de questões subjetivas referentes às principais repercussões como o baixo índice de natalidade, a baixa estatura, a imaturidade sexual e a infertilidade; além do tratamento (aplicação do Hormônio de Crescimento e reposição de Estrogênio-Progesterona), ou do adoecimento em si – quando comprometimentos orgânicos ocorrem (Nestes casos, podem ser necessárias intervenções cirúrgicas). Participaram 8 mulheres residentes na capital de São Paulo, ou que lá estiveram durante a pesquisa. As entrevistas foram norteadas pelas seguintes questões: 1) Como tem sido conviver com a Síndrome de Turner? 2) Como foi para você o momento do diagnóstico da Síndrome de Turner? O que você pensou, o que você sentiu? 3) Como é conviver com o olhar do Outro; como você se sente em relação a isso? O método empregado foi o fenomenológico. A análise baseou-se nas considerações de Martins & Bicudo, Amatuzzi e Giorgi, versando sobre elementos importantes para a elaboração das seguintes categorias principais: conviver com a Síndrome de Turner tem sido... ; “Não vou conseguir” X “O que consigo”; sou normal! Me aceito e levo uma vida normal!; (des)Conheço, me (des)Aproprio, me (des)Cuido; Convivendo com a Síndrome de Turner: o ser não-desenvolvido, o ser-mulher e o ser-mãe; Olhar do/no Outro. Através destas, foi construída a Síntese e a análise Compreensiva das vivências relatadas. O trabalho contribuiu à disseminação do conhecimento sobre a síndrome, em seu caráter dissociado do puramente nosológico. A maneira como os profissionais de saúde atendem pessoas com S. T. parece essencial; assim como a visão e as expectativas que a família cria em torno da Síndrome, permeadas pelo que conhecem sobre. O não-esclarecimento pode aumentar a angústia de entrar em um “novo universo”: de comparações (comparar-se com mulheres que tem filhos biológicos, ou que estão em um relacionamento amoroso, como se isso nunca fosse passível de acontecer consigo); e, a princípio, consideram não serem capazes de concretizar seus objetivos. À medida que se (re)conhecem, Ter ou não S.T deixa de ser substancial para se tornar apenas um dos aspectos da vida de mulheres com a síndrome e seus familiares. medicinal plant belonging to the family Turneraceae. In Brazil this family is represented by
two genera, Piriqueta and Turnera, being Turnera the most representative. The Genus
Turnera is characterized by the presence of terpenoids, flavonoids, steroids, benzenoids,
alkaloids and lipids. Aiming at contributing to the chemical profile of the family Turneraceae
and considering the absence of data in literature about the chemical constitution of the species
Turnera subulata, the latter was submitted to a phytochemical study to isolate its chemical
constituents, through usual chromatographic methods, and after identifying them by means of
spectroscopic methods such as IR and 1H and 13C NMR, with the add of two-dimensional
techniques. Six constituents were isolated through this phytochemical study with Turnera
subulata: Phaeophytin purpurin 18 phytyl ester (Ts-5); Phaeophytin (a) (Ts-1); 132- hydroxy -
(132-S)- Phaeophytin (a) (Ts-2); Phaeophytin (b) (Ts-4) and mixture of steroids sitosterol-3-
O-D-glucopyranoside and Stigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (Ts-3).<br>Turnera subulata Sm, conhecida popularmente como chanana ou flor-do-Guarujá , é uma
espécie da família Turneraceae. No Brasil esta família é representada pelos gêneros, Piriqueta
e Turnera, sendo Turnera o mais representativo, com cerca de 80 espécies. Este Gênero é
caracterizado pela presença de terpenóides, flavonóides, esteróides, benzenóides, alcalóides e
lipídios. Visando contribuir com o perfil químico da família Turneraceae e tendo em vista a
ausência de dados na literatura acerca da constituição química da espécie Turnera subulata
Sm, esta foi submetida a um estudo fitoquímico para o isolamento de seus constituintes
químicos, através dos métodos cromatográficos usuais, e posterior caracterização estrutural
dos mesmos, utilizando-se os métodos espectroscópicos de IV e RMN 1H e 13C uni e
bidimensionais. Deste estudo pioneiro com Turnera subulata foram isolados e identificados
seis constituintes: Feofitina Purpurina 18 fitil éster (Ts-5); Feofitina (a) (Ts-1); 132-hidroxi-
(132-S)-feofitina (a) (Ts-2); Feofitina (b) (Ts-4) e uma mistura dos esteróides glicosilados
sitosterol-3-O-D-glicopiranosídeo e estigmasterol-3-O-β-D-glicopiranosídeo (Ts-3).

A resposta individual ao tratamento com hormônio de crescimento recombinante humano (rhGH) na síndrome de Turner (ST) é muito variável. A falta de individualização da dose pode justificar a variabilidade de respostas e os resultados insatisfatórios de algumas pacientes mesmo quando diagnosticadas e tratadas em condições ideais. Como a resposta ao tratamento com rhGH reflete fatores genéticos e não genéticos, o objetivo do presente estudo é avaliar a influência de fatores genéticos no tratamento com rhGH das portadoras de ST. Foram estudadas 112 pacientes com ST, em tratamento ou que interromperam a terapia, após atingir a altura final. O DNA genômico de todas as pacientes foi obtido para estudo de três polimorfismos em genes envolvidos na ação do GH: a presença ou ausência do éxon 3 do receptor do GH (GHR), VNTR presente na região promotora do gene do fator de crescimento insulina-símile-1(IGF1) e polimorfismo de único nucleotídeo (SNP) presente na região promotora do gene da Proteína 3 de Ligação a Fator de Crescimento Insulina-símile (IGFBP3). Os achados moleculares foram correlacionados com a velocidade de crescimento no primeiro ano de tratamento (n=112) e com altura adulta (n=65)) após uso de rhGH por meio de análises de regressão linear simples e múltipla, ajustadas para as demais variáveis clínicas relacionadas à resposta ao tratamento com rhGH em ST. Dois desses polimorfismos - a presença (GHR-fl) ou ausência (GHR-d3) do éxon 3 do GHR e o polimorfismo - 202 A/C IGFBP-3- influenciaram de forma independente e interativa a capacidade de resposta ao tratamento com rhGH em pacientes com ST; e o VNTR de repetições (CA)n da região promotora do IGF1 não demonstrou influência sobre nenhum dos parâmetros analisados. Pacientes carreadoras de, pelo menos, um alelo GHR-d3 apresentaram melhor velocidade de crescimento e maior altura final após tratamento com rhGH do que as homozigotas para o alelo GHR-fl. Similarmente, as carreadoras de, pelo menos, um alelo -202 A-IGFBP3 apresentaram melhor velocidade de crescimento e maior altura final após tratamento com rhGH, além de maiores concentrações séricas de IGFBP-3, do que as homozigotas para o alelo -202 CIGFBP3. Finalmente, a análise conjunta dos genótipos GHR-éxon 3 e -202 A/C IGFBP3 mostrou uma clara influência epistática, parcialmente aditiva, desses dois polimorfismos comuns na altura adulta de pacientes com ST tratadas com rhGH (efeito isolado do GHR-éxon 3, R2 = 0,27; efeito isolado do -202 A/C IGFBP3, R2 = 0,24; influência combinada desses polimorfismos, R2 = 0,37). Em conjunto com as variáveis clinicas, altura ao início do tratamento (p<0,001) e idade cronológica ao início da puberdade (p<0,001), estes dois polimorfismos são capazes de predizer 61% da variabilidade da altura adulta, após uso de rhGH. Embora estudos de validação sejam ainda necessários, acredita-se que as informações geradas por este e outros estudos - direcionados a um melhor entendimento das bases moleculares envolvidas na capacidade de resposta ao tratamento com rhGH - possam servir no futuro como importante ferramenta de individualização do tratamento com rhGH<br>Individual response to treatment with recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) in Turner syndrome (TS) is very variable. The lack of individualization of rhGH dosing may explain the variability of response and the unsatisfactory results for some patients even when diagnosed and treated in ideal conditions. As the response to treatment with rhGH reflects genetic and nongenetic factors, the objective of this study is to evaluate the influence of genetic factors on rhGH treatment of patients with TS. We studied 112 patients with TS in rhGH therapy or who have discontinued therapy after adult height. Genomic DNA from all patients was obtained for the study of three polymorphisms in genes involved in GH action: the presence or absence of éxon 3 of the GH receptor (GHR), VNTR in the promoter region of the gene for insulin-like growth factor- 1 (IGF1) and a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the promoter region of the gene insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 (IGFBP3). Molecular findings were correlated with the first-year growth velocity (n = 112) and adult height (n = 65)) after rhGH therapy using simple and multiple linear regressions analysis adjusting for other clinical variables related to the response to rhGH treatment on TS. Two of these polymorphisms - the presence (GHR-fl) or absence (GHR-d3) of the GHR éxon 3 polymorphism and -202 A / C IGFBP-3 independently and interactively influenced the response to rhGH treatment in patients with TS, whereas the VNTR in the promoter region of the gene for IGF1 showed no influence on any of the parameters analyzed. Patients carrying at least one d3-GHR allele have better first-year growth velocity and greater adult height after rhGH treatment than those homozygous for GHR-fl allele. Similarly, the carriers of at least one -202 A-IGFBP3 allele showed better first-year growth velocity and greater adult height after rhGH treatment, besides higher serum IGFBP-3 levels, than those homozygous for -202 C-IGFBP3 allele. Finally, the combined analysis of GHR-éxon 3 and -202 A / C IGFBP3 genotypes have demonstrated a clear epistatic influence, partially additive, of these two common polymorphisms on adult height of patients with TS treated with rhGH (isolated effect of GHR-éxon 3, R2 = 0.27; isolated effect of the -202 A / C IGFBP3, R2 = 0.24; combined influence of these polymorphisms, R2 = 0.37). In conjunction with the clinical variables, baseline height (SDS) (p <0.001) and chronological age at onset of puberty (p <0.001), these two polymorphisms are able to predict 61% of the variability in adult height after rhGH therapy. Although validation studies are still needed, we believe that the information brought by this and other studies whose efforts are to understand the molecular basis involved in responsiveness to rhGH treatment can serve as an important tool in the future individualization of treatment with rhGH

AbstractEmployee turnover has been one of the main concerns facing the hospitality industry. This issue seems to be aggravated in artificial intelligence (AI) environment, where AI implementation is associated with pressure, job alienation, and labor replacement, increasing workers’ desire to quit their job. To analyze the relationship between AI awareness, job alienation, discrimination, and turnover intention, an online survey was distributed to hospitality employees (n = 450). From a series of independent-samples T-tests and regression analyses, this study found employees’ turnover intentions are significantly associated with employees’ concerns of being replaced by AI, perception of job alienation, and workplace discrimination. Importantly, current algorithmically managed workers tend to feel more powerless and discriminated against, and thus have higher turnover intentions. Recommendations for practice and future research are provided.

AbstractThe relationship between Turks and Kurds, two peoples who have lived together for nearly a thousand years, has become tense with the nation-building policies that have been implemented in Turkey for over a century. The imposition of a singular identity based on Turkishness on a wide range of national/ethnic differences ranging from the constitution to educational policies has caused limitations in Kurds’ living their own identities along with other minority communities. Due to its close relationship with national identity, history courses are among the areas of education that tend to ignore ethnic/cultural differences in Turkey. Kurdish teachers of history, who have to teach a content organized with such an understanding, are trapped between the truths of official history and the truths of their own identities, as well as the identity problems they face in the social and political field. In this study, interviews were conducted with Kurdish teachers of history of different religious/sectarian, political and sexual identities and their relations with their students, colleagues and educational bureaucracy and the meaning of history lessons for them were revealed. Thus, it was tried to understand what it means to be a Kurdish teacher of history in Turkey.

The chapter describes Bradbury’s role as a judge in the controversial Turner Tomorrow Award in June 1991, where he took issue with the views of fellow judges William Styron and Peter Matthiessen and earned the gratitude of prize founder Ted Turner. Introdução: A Síndrome de Turner é uma doença genética rara que acomete apenas o sexo feminino, caracterizada pela falta total ou parcial de um dos dois cromossomos X. A ausência de um dos cromossomos leva ao surgimento de características típicas, como por exemplo baixa estatura, excesso de pele no pescoço e tórax alargado. O diagnóstico é feito por meio da observação das características exibidas, assim como, pela realização de exames moleculares para identificação dos cromossomos. Assim, a atuação de enfermagem é importância no que diz respeito a prevenção da síndrome, pois podem ajudar por meio de orientações e aconselhamento genético. Objetivo: Analisar as produções científicas acerca da atuação da enfermagem na prevenção da Síndrome de Turner. Material e métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo, do tipo Revisão Bibliográfica, realizado no mês de novembro de 2021, no portal da Biblioteca Virtual de Saúde (BVS). A seleção dos estudos ocorreu através do cruzamento de descritores e uso do operador booleano: “Enfermagem” AND “Síndrome de Turner” AND “Anormalidades Congênitas”. Foram incluídos artigos científicos completos, na língua portuguesa, no período de 2017 a 2021 e disponíveis eletronicamente. Foram excluídos, artigos de revisão e os repetidos. Compuseram a amostragem final desse estudo 05 artigos. Resultados: A atuação da enfermagem na prevenção da síndrome de Turner deve ser realizada a partir de treinamentos específicos, a maioria das doenças genéticas não possuem cura, porém existem formas de tratamentos, terapias, condutas educacionais e medicamentos capazes de melhorar a qualidade de vida do indivíduo e sua família. O enfermeiro, nas consultas, tem o dever de informar e esclarecer dúvidas ao indivíduo e família, permitindo uma compreensão acerca da desordem genética. Uma boa anamnese é imprescindível, pois ajudará no período de pré-natal. Ainda, evidenciou-se que o aconselhamento genético é uma das práticas de enfermagem e que, é de responsabilidade dos enfermeiros dar suporte psicossocial e o acompanhamento de pais que venham a ter uma criança com a síndrome. Conclusão: Portanto, é necessária a capacitação profissional para um melhor acompanhamento de casos. Ainda, podem ser utilizadas estratégias como as campanhas preventivas no período de pré-natal, sobretudo, ofertar aconselhamento genético.

Introdução: A Turnera subulata é amplamente utilizada como fitoterápico, pelo conhecimento dos seus benefícios que são passados de geração a geração, por meio da oralidade dos mais velhos. A T. subulata é conhecida por damiana, chanana, flor-do-guarujá, e pertence à família botânica Turneraceae. Subarbusto, pouco ramificado, de 40 a 70 cm de altura, com raiz pivotante. Folhas simples, pecioladas, alternas com margens serreadas. Flores solitárias, axilares e terminais, corola composta por 5 pétalas amarelo-esbranquiçadas ou brancas, com garganta preta, e se abrem somente pela manhã. As sementes são obovóides. Sendo uma planta espontânea, oferece uma boa cobertura vegetal, favorecendo a estabilização dos solos, como também atrai insetos polinizadores, enriquecendo assim, a biodiversidade. Em algumas culturas agrícolas a Turnera é considerada, na maioria das vezes, como uma erva daninha, pelo seu alto poder competitivo, por ser hospedeira de insetos, e pela sua interferência indesejável na competição de nutrientes em relação às plantas próximas. Objetivo: O presente resumo teve como objetivo explanar e promover a valorização da T. subulata e seus efeitos fitoterápicos. Metodologia: Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica a partir de uma literatura etnobotânica. Resultados: T. subulata é popularmente conhecida por suas propriedades terapêuticas e por ter uma imensa versatilidade quanto ao seu uso. Os estudos mostram que a T. subulata possui uma variedade de metabólitos secundários como flavonóides e glicosilados, utilizados popularmente em doenças gastrointestinais. Ela é usada para doenças infecciosas e parasitárias, doenças endócrinas, nutricionais, metabólicas e doenças do sistema geniturinário. Os usos mais comuns são na forma de infusão de ervas, infusão misturada com várias outras plantas (garrafada no nordeste brasileiro), xaropes, banhos e compressas. Segundo pesquisas, a chanana possui benefícios para pacientes que fazem tratamento do câncer, neutralizando os efeitos colaterais do mesmo. Conclusão: Poucos estudos têm sido feitos para avaliar a eficácia terapêutica e a toxicidade das preparações fitoterápicas e dos compostos químicos, visto que, a planta tem valor etnobotânico e potencial fitoquímico para a produção de fármacos.

Continued advances in microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology have led to development of numerous applications including, but not limited to: automotive, communication, information technology, deep-space, medical, safety, national security, etc. These developments are being made possible because of creative designs and novel packaging based on use of some of the most sophisticated analytical and experimental tools available today. These tools are also employed to overcome limitations due to inherent behavior of materials fabricated into miniature shapes subjected to extremely harsh operating conditions while satisfying very challenging specifications/requirements of their applications. Thermoelastic internal friction is present in all structural materials and has been found experimentally in miniature silicon resonators (e.g., microgyroscopes, accelerometers, as well as biological, chemical, and other sensors/actuators) that rely on vibrations of either sensing elements or application-specific elastic suspensions that resonate. Regardless of their applications, sensors are always designed to provide the most sensitive responses to the signals they are developed to detect and/or monitor. One way to describe this sensitivity is to use the Quality (Q) factor. Most recent experimental evidence indicates that as the physical sizes of sensors decrease (especially because of continued advances in fabrication, e.g., by surface micromachining) the corresponding Q-factors become more and more dependent on thermoelastic damping (TED). This form of damping depends on material properties such as coefficient of thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, specific heat, density, and modulus of elasticity. It is also related to such design/operating parameters as resonator dimensions and temperature. This paper reviews a theoretical analysis of the effects that thermoelastic internal friction has on the Q-factor of microscale resonators and shows that the internal friction relating to TED is a fundamental damping mechanism in determination of quality of high-Q resonators over a range of operating conditions. Furthermore, the analysis also shows that the Q of resonators can be critical to the development of modern sensors. Microscale resonators are often used as basic sensing elements in the modern micromachined sensors. These sensors are frequency-modulated devices and exhibit a change in output frequency that is related to measurements and/or control of a physical variable. Accuracy and precision of these measurements/controls are inherently dependent on the frequency stability of the sensor/device output. This, in turn, greatly depends on damping in the resonating element itself.

The results of empirical studies focusing on gender differences in subjective wellbeing based on either national or comparative international data are inconclusive. In Turkey, where levels of gender inequality are high, women tend to report higher levels of life satisfaction than men. This study investigates the relationship between factors related to women’s empowerment and life satisfaction for both ever-married and never-married women using the 2018 Turkey Demographic and Health Survey (TDHS), which collected data on life satisfaction for the first time in a TDHS series. The results show that in addition to their material resources and living environment, factors related to women’s agency – i.e., education and participation in decisionmaking – are associated with women’s levels of life satisfaction.

The use of technologies within educational settings has become a priority for governments of developing countries. Investment in Technologies for Education (TEd), which has the goal of improving the quality of education and making it relevant to 21st century realities, has grown steadily during the past decade. However, efforts involving the evaluation of such projects have been inadequate thus far. The evaluation of educational technology projects is critically important, since it allows us to learn from the experience of carrying out such programs while providing vital information on expected results. The present document is intended for those who design, implement, and make decisions with respect to TEd. Its purpose is to foster the development of increasingly rigorous monitoring and evaluation processes that in turn lead to richer experiences that are more focused, effective, and sustainable.

This paper describes the patterns of worker turnover in selected Latin American countries and their implications for wage inequality. It documents a higher positive annual wage growth rate for job to job changers compared to stayers, due to turnover capturing the immediate gains from search behavior in the short run. Younger workers benefit relatively more from the positive effects of job to job changes, as expected. We also show that transitions are relatively higher within the informal sector for most countries, and particularly so for workers without college education. Moreover, total job separations and transitions from formal into informal employment occur more often among low-skill and young individuals. Next, the paper analyzes wage growth by percentiles for all workers and job-to-job movers for each country over a more extended period. We find that job to job changes are inequality reducing in the short run, consistent with search gains associated with turnover exhausting more rapidly for high-paid workers. In contrast, we find that human capital effects dominate the search effects in the long run, as human capital accumulates over time. Thus, long-run wage growth is lower for job changers than for stayers, so that, while in the short run the search effects tend to dominate those of human capital, in the long run the opposite occurs. As unskilled workers change jobs more frequently, this suggests that job changes are inequality increasing in the long run. A potential explanation for limited wage growth in Latin American economies may include high informality rates. Policies to reduce wage inequality should focus on improving the conditions for positive turnover towards better investment and, thus, higher-quality jobs.

In most Latin American countries, the upper and middle classes tend to meet their care needs through the market, resorting to options such as private schools and care centres, as well as the labour of domestic workers. However, these practices were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and its containment measures. Drawing on a series of interviews with employers of domestic workers in Paraguay, this paper analyses the changes in convivial relations and arrangements regarding the distribution of care within households that outsource domestic chores and had to adapt to lockdown measures. By doing so, I seek to highlight not only changes in the routine of family members but also the exacerbation of inequalities regarding the social organisation of care, and the discourses provided for justifying and naturalising these inequalities. I argue that while at first glance, lockdown measures seemed to have contested the separation of the world of work and family, they produced a rebound effect that translated into a reinforced separation of capital and care, expressed through a deepening of the privatisation, feminisation and commodification of care.

Over the last few years, the debate on labor market reform has been at the center of economic policy debate in Argentina. One of the major targets of the attack on labor market regulation has been high dismissal costs. Attempts to reduce dismissal costs for all existing jobs have faced strong opposition. As a compromise, and to stimulate job creation, employment promotion contracts for new jobs were introduced in 1995. These contracts are limited to a fixed term ranging from three months to two years. There is a growing concern about the volatility of these temporary jobs, referred to as junk contracts, and a predominant view that they tend to generate excessive turnover. This paper studies the effect of this reform on job duration. The main findings are that the reform generated an overall increase in the hazard rate, and particularly so for the first three months of employment.

Museer er en meget brugt fritidsaktivitet, og der har i de sidste 20 år været et øget fokus på at udvikle museernes tilbud. I samme periode har antallet af besøgende på danske museer også været jævnt stigende. Men vi ved stadig ikke helt, hvorfor nogen går mere på museum end andre. Denne rapport handler om brugen af museer, og om der i brugen er forskelle i forhold til, om man er en flittig gæst, eller om det er lang tid siden, turen er gået til et museum. Bag projektet står Den Gamle By i samarbejde med Moesgaard Museum, ARoS, KØN – Museum for kønnenes kulturhistorie og Naturhistorisk Museum i Aarhus samt Copenhagen Business School og Center for Kulturevaluering på Aarhus Universitet. Existing estimates of the macroeconomic effects of Australian monetary policy tend to be based on strong, potentially contentious, assumptions. I estimate these effects under weaker assumptions. Specifically, I estimate a structural vector autoregression identified using a variety of sign restrictions, including restrictions on impulse responses to a monetary policy shock, the monetary policy reaction function, and the relationship between the monetary policy shock and a proxy for this shock. I use an approach to Bayesian inference that accounts for the problem of posterior sensitivity to the choice of prior that arises in this setting, which turns out to be important. Some sets of identifying restrictions are not particularly informative about the effects of monetary policy. However, combining the restrictions allows us to draw some useful inferences. There is robust evidence that an increase in the cash rate lowers output and consumer prices at horizons beyond a year or so. The results are consistent with the macroeconomic effects of a 100 basis point increase in the cash rate lying towards the upper end of the range of existing estimates.

This technical note considers whether low savings in Latin America and the Caribbean may result from low productivity rather than vice versa. Economies with low TFP growth tend to be economies in which returns to investments are low, with low saving rates as well. In that sense, low TFP growth, by providing weaker incentives to save, could be another determinant of the low saving rates observed in the region. Moreover, firms need to invest, which in turn requires that they can access financial markets. If instead, firms are constrained because of financial frictions, some entrepreneurs may have to run small firms and save in order to fund their projects, slowing down aggregate productivity growth. This note further examines the distribution of private savings in the economy and the behavior of firm saving to explore whether financial frictions distort price signals and incentives to save.

Using Colombian credit vintage data, we decompose the non-performing loans into one component that captures the evolution of the payment capacity of borrowers, and other component that captures changes in the credit risk taken by the financial system at the time of loan disbursement. We use intrinsic estimators and penalized regression techniques to overcome the perfect multicollinearity problem that the model entails. We find that these two type of components have evolved differently over time, and that good economic conditions and loose financial conditions improve the payment capacity of borrowers to meet their obligations, and in turn, they tend to coincide with the financial system engaging in riskier loans. Finally, we advocate the use of this methodology as a policy tool that is easy to apply by financial and economic authorities that dispose of a constant flow of credit vintage information. Through it, they will be able to identify the origin of the credit risk materialization and curb the risk taken by the financial system.

Den europeiska ålen (Anguilla anguilla) klassas idag som akut hotad. En anledning till att den minskat i antal är på grund av vandringshinder, så som vattenkraftverk, som påverkar ålens upp- och nedströmsvandring på ett negativt sätt. Vattenkraften blockerar vandringsvägar och leder till ökad mortalitet då lekvandrande ål har svårt att överleva passagen genom vattenkraftens snurrande turbiner under sin vandring från sötvatten till havet. En åtgärd för att minska mortaliteten i turbinerna är att man fångar och transporterar ål med lastbil förbi vandringshindren. Fångst och transport går till så att ål fångas ovanför vattenkraftverken och förvaras i sump, för att sedan köras med bil eller lastbilstransport förbi vattenkraftverken för att sedan släppas ut. Syftet med denna rapport är att undersöka vilka faktorer som påverkar dödlighet hos ål under fångst och transport, så kallad Trap & Transport. Data i denna studie kommer från Svenska Insjöfiskarenas Centralförbund (SIC), där fiskare tillsammans med transportör har fört protokoll över fångst och transport under åren 2013-2022. Faktorer som vattentemperatur, tid i sump och transporttid testades mot dödlighet. Totalt dog det få ålar under fångst och transport (0,78 %) men vid vissa fångster och transporttillfällen var dödligheten så hög som 10 %. Enligt resultaten är det generellt hög vattentemperatur i kombination med lång sumpningstid som bör undvikas för att minska antalet ål som dör under fångst och transport.
