The expansionism of the West, led by the United States in the CIS space, particularly in countries with signifi cant natural resources, is always aimed not only at maximization the use of their wealth but also at neutralization the infl uence of Russia. The energy reserves of the Caspian territories and their geography since olden times attracted Westerners, primarily Americans and British. The oil boom in the second half of the 19th century led to the introduction of the largest Western companies such as the American giant «Standard Oil», «French House of Rothschild», and the Anglo-Dutch «Royal Dutch Shell» equipped with advanced technologies into the country's hydrocarbon industry. Extraordinary for that time fi nancial resources were invested in the Russian oil industry. The Soviet government nationalized the oil and gas industry, blocking foreigners' access to it. After the collapse of the USSR, new sovereign states, including the Caspian ones, in an eff ort to overcome socioeconomic and foreign policy problems, focused on the accelerated exploitation of natural resources by the foreign partners. American, British, Norwegian, Japanese, Saudi, Turkish companies have started operating in Azerbaijan. Royal Dutch-Shell, Chevron, Eni, Total feel comfortable in Kazakhstan. Along with hydrocarbons, Kazakhstan has signifi cant reserves of uranium, which is mined by foreign businesses, including Western ones. From 1992 (date of establishment of Turkmen-American diplomatic relations) up to 2021 Turkmenistan and the United States signed 167 documents on cooperation in the energy sector, including the gas sector, engineering, agriculture and other areas. Against this background, Russia needs to intensify its participation and cooperation in energy projects, scientific, educational, agro-industrial areas of the Caspian states. Activities in the CIS space is important especially in the context of the total, political, economic, information war of the collective West against Russia.

This article titled “Shi’ism and its creedal impact on society in Afghanistan” has been elaborated and explained in detail that the people of Afghanistan converted to Islam early, and they were on the belief of the Sunnis. The political shiism appeared in them against the Umayyad State and increased in Timurid-Mongol and Safavid era. After the succession of Iranian Revolution, the Iranian regime helped the Shiite minority in Afghanistan and trained them in all fields. The Shiites are spread in most of the Afghanistan provinces, the percentage of them is different from one province to another. They are concentrated in the Afghan capital, Kabul, the city of Herat, Kandahar and Mazar Sharif, and most of the residents of Daikandi and Bamyan are Shiites, and they have no presence in the eastern provinces. The Hazaras are recorded first in shiism, then the Qizilbash, then in the rest of the of the Tajiks, Pashtuns, and Turkmen, and it is hardly mentioned in the statistics. The ignorance of many people in Afghanistan about the reality of the Shiite sect has led to the recognition of the Ja’fari sect, the support of its false beliefs, the misrepresentation of truth to the common people, the spread of various kinds of heresies, funerals, and parties, and even the participation of some Sunnis in them. Shiite Iran shares the Persian language, Persian nationalism, and the Shiite minority with Afghanistan, and thus supports them creedal, economically, and culturally, and the Sunnis are influenced by them, so they ask for help from the dead and shrines, and the phenomenon of building on graves spread. Many of the Sunni scholars, intellectuals, tribal sheikhs, and political persons were influenced by Shiite movements and activities, so they continued to support them in word and deed and shared their sorrows and joys. Also, the curriculum books of Logic and Philosophy in religious schools of Afghanistan are written by Shiite authors, and they have a great influence in turning people away from the Book, the Sunnah, and the correct belief. Building Husseiniyas and cultural centers is one of the most important methods for spreading Shiite thought, its corrupt beliefs, and plans. In recent years, Shiites have been able to open hundreds of Husseiniyas and dozens of cultural centers, and they perform all their sectarian rituals in them freely. Rather, they invite the negligent Sunnis to increase their masses. Dissemination of superstitions among their children. The research describes the presence of Shiite in Afghanistan and Its influence on the People in the of creed and culture.

Increasing the share of women, who make up half of the total population in Turkey, in total employment will positively affect economic growth and development. Although female employment in Turkey is generally low, policy recommendations and action plans are prepared by the relevant ministries to increase women's employment. Throughout the world, women face some difficulties in business life and the importance of policies to be developed in order to increase women's employment as well as to ensure its continuity is among the issues on the agenda. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of gender equality and the regulations to be made for women's participation in business life is underlined once again. The main purpose of this study is to analyze structurally the female workforce and female unemployment in Turkey. For this purpose, women's employment, the effects of women's employment on the economy and the problems women experience in participating in business life are explained. The structure of the female workforce and unemployment in Turkey has been examined throughout the country and regionally. In the study, the labor force participation rate of women, the distribution of women's employment according to economic activities and the female unemployment rate are based on. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on women's employment were explained and a policy proposal framework was tried to be determined. Accordingly, regulations to be made on issues such as wages, leave arrangements, prevention of dismissals and policies to be implemented in this context come to the fore as important factors for increasing women's participation in the workforce. When the labor force participation rate and unemployment rate of women are evaluated regionally, it is seen that there are differences between regions. This situation makes it necessary to consider the labor market dynamics of the regions in the policies to be developed.

Although a growing body of evidence emphasizes the benefits of physical activity and exercise participation, diverse cultural, social and religious factors prevent girls and women from participating in physical activity and exercise. Recently, women-only gyms have become an important factor in promoting women’s participation in exercise in nonwestern countries, such as Turkey. This study examines the factors that affect the experiences of women who participate in exercise in a women-only gym, in Turkey, by applying self-determination theory (SDT) with a gender perspective. Data were collected through in-depth semistructured interviews with seventeen women and three women instructors and analyzed with thematic analysis. Identified themes are a) regulation of daily life: time of one’s own, b) structured exercise, and c) comfort of being in women-only environments. Findings show that women-only gym satisfies the three basic needs identified by SDT, and reproduce the relationship between exercise and femininity for women. This means that satisfaction of three needs, autonomy, competence, and relatedness, involves gendered meanings for women who exercise in women-only gyms.

Within migration flows from Turkey to Eurpoe it can be postulated that the UK has proportionally received more politically motivated migrants than other European destinations. The political migration from Turkey to the UK is marked with the catastrophic events that uprooted people such as 1971 coup d’état, 1978 massacres of Alevis in Maras and 1980 military coup d’état and is known to have peaked with the civil war in the 1990s in the Eastern provinces of Turkey. Hence the majority of the migrants from Turkey in the UK are Kurdish Alevis from eastern provinces such as Maras, Sivas, Kayseri and Tunceli. This research was conducted between September 2014 and September 2015. 60 individuals from Turkish speaking communities were recruited and semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted. Interviews were transcribed and then analysed using tools of thematic data analysis. The findings indicated stronger interest in politics and higher level of political participation by Kurdish and Alevi participants. Hence this paper offers a detailedanalysis of political interest and political participation of Kurdish/Alevi community living in London. Three key areas are: i) how they organize themselves under the umbrella of British Alevi Federation; ii) their relationship with civil society organisations and ethnic economy, iii) their activities in order to create public interest and opinion in relation to what is happening in Turkey.

Financial systems and companies have become the most important reasons in the weakness of world economic system. The formation and development process of the financial structure also constitute the infrastructure of the world economic system. The path of the financial system and development has led to discuss with the financial crisis in 2008-2011. One of the solutions in order to reduce problems caused by the conventional banking system is alternative financing systems. In Turkey, the corporations based on profit share system are named participation banks. These banks which settle on different principles in the risk distribution of the portfolio acquired are analyzed more nowadays. Participation based banks are placed in practically every regulation related to banking terms and get their legal infrastructure more steady in the banking legislation of Turkey. This study is a continuation of a series related to the situation of participation banking in Turkey. On the other hand, the literature and the history of participation banking have been given less attention in this study. Literature information on methods in participation banks has been described in previous work of the series. Two analyzes were conducted in this study. One analysis is interpretive analysis that expresses the situation of applications of participation banking against banking risks. The other is an analysis of the figures of participation banks in Turkey as a continuation of the series. This study is a 2007-2015 part of research series. The study tries to explore the place and the importance of participation based banking with the various sub-headings, especially in Turkey. For this reason, we examine the comparative review 2007-2015 data of participation banks which are composed of Total Assets, Equity Net Profit, Collected Funds and Bank Loan Funds. ABSTRACT This study empirically investigates the antecedent, mediating, and outcome variables of budgetary participation in Turkey. Turkey is an interesting setting to investigate the impact of budgetary participation on job satisfaction and performance because of its unique cultural and institutional factors. We propose that the information asymmetry between superiors and subordinates creates the need for budgetary participation, and the outcomes of budgetary participation (i.e., job satisfaction and performance) will be mediated by goal commitment and role ambiguity. Based on a questionnaire survey of 194 mid-level managers in Turkey, we find that role ambiguity mediates the budgetary participation–job satisfaction and budgetary participation-performance relationships. The results are consistent with the view that the primary benefit of budgetary participation is to decrease role ambiguity, leading to more job satisfaction and better performance. Furthermore, we find that goal commitment mediates the budgetary participation-performance relationship. This result suggests that participation in the budgeting process increases goal commitment, which in turn leads to better performance. This study will be beneficial for companies in general and for organizations in developing countries in particular to realize that budgetary participation alone does not improve job satisfaction and performance. Rather, it is the increased commitment and decreased role ambiguity that results from managers' participation in the budgetary process that improves job satisfaction and performance. Abstract The family, which is one of the smallest units of the society, has the most important effect on a child’s life. It is known that parents are the initial examples for the child in many ways. This study primarily aims to compare the sports sciences students in Turkey and the United Kingdom in terms of their parents’ participation in sports. The sample consisted of 390 sports sciences students (201 in the UK and 189 in Turkey). The study was conducted with the cross-sectional screening model. The data were collected by the Exercise Stages of Change Questionnaire (ESOCQ) and analysed by Chi-Squared (χ2) test. Within the scope of the study, it was found that the sports sciences students in both countries were rather at the active stage of exercise stages of change in both countries, but the ratio of the students who actively participated in exercise in the UK was higher. The observations from the passive and preparation stages of the participation in exercises were examined and the frequency of the students in Turkey was higher compared to those in the UK. The rates of parent attendance in sports were also higher in the UK, and the active stage was on for the majority of these students from the exercise stages of change. In Turkey, the students whose parents do not attend sports have higher rates than those of the attending parents. In consideration of the sportive achievements, it is quite obvious that it is not enough simply to offer choices to children. Beyond that, another approach is required. The leading action to take can be participating in sports by themselves to become a model for their kids. Accordingly, it is essential that parents should be seen as a social support that may help them develop some new attitudes towards sports at their developmental ages.

This study focuses on the non-participation of adults in physical activity and the reasons that have been preventing them to participate. The study is carried out with 283 participants (116 men and 167 women) who live in Adana, Turkey. Their ages range from 18-66. The average age of the adult participants is 31.81 ±10.12. The demographical features, their conditions to be able to participate in physical activity and the conditions that restrain them from participation have been determined by the 35 question through a questionnaire prepared by the researcher. In analyzing the information the x² test has been used. According to the results of the analysis it is found out that 59.5% of the man and 53.7% of the woman who have participated in the study are involved in physical activities.. In the study it has been observed that participation in physical activity increases in direct proportion to better education and higher income. The marital status has also affected the participation. The participants have brought to the fore the most important reasons for not participating in physical activities as, not finding friends, that the places where physical activity is performed is crowded, not having enough time, not being supported by the family or not having enough information in their answers. As a result, participation in physical activity is made up by factors related to each other and at the same time independent of them.

Underserved and hard-to-reach population groups are under-represented in vaccine trials. Thus, we aimed to identify the challenges of vaccine trial participation of these groups in member countries of the VACCELERATE network. Seventeen National Coordinators (NC), each representing their respective country (15 European countries, Israel, and Turkey), completed an online survey. From 15 eligible groups, those that were more frequently declared underserved/hard-to-reach in vaccine research were ethnic minorities (76.5%), persons experiencing homelessness (70.6%), illegal workers and refugees (64.7%, each). When prioritization for education on vaccine trials was considered, ethnic groups, migrants, and immigrants (5/17, 29.4%) were the groups most frequently identified by the NC as top targets. The most prominent barriers in vaccine trial participation affecting all groups were low levels of health literacy, reluctance to participate in trials due to engagement level, and low levels of trust in vaccines/vaccinations. This study highlighted population groups considered underserved/hard-to-reach in countries contained within the European region, and the respective barriers these groups face when participating in clinical studies. Our findings aid with the design of tailored interventions (within—and across—countries of the European region) and with the development of strategies to overcome major barriers in phase 2 and phase 3 vaccine trial participation.

This paper argues that Turkey’s current hard power participation in its region can be understood as “Strategic Participation.” It posits this approach is a shift in strategy, not goals from the “zero problems with neighbours” policy piloted by former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu. It applies this argument to the case of increasing Russian regional intervention, and argues that Turkey’s response to Russia is in line with the goal of Davutoğlu’s Strategic Depth doctrine of leveraging historical identity and diversifying strategic relationships. It combines the “principal-agent” and “concordance” civil–military relations theories of Feaver and Schiff to clarify the AKP’s role in foreign policy and employ’s Walt’s “balance-of-threat” theory to assess the Russian threat. It argues that civil–military relations after the Ergenekon and Bayloz trials enabled Strategic Depth to become established in the AKP, and that Turkish concerns over NATO commitment have created a security deficit that exacerbates the asymmetric Russian threat. It then surveys Turkish relations with four states — Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, and Iraq — along three indicators: shared threat; military co-operation; and economic dependence. It concludes that Turkey is working to bolster co-operation with key regional states to compensate for the perceived “security deficit” in the face of asymmetric threat from Russia, in line with the strategic diversification objectives required under Strategic Participation.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to attempt to compare the performance of Islamic banks against conventional banks in Turkey. This comparison is much more distinctive and significant in Turkey when compared to other countries, as Turkey stands as a model for the world in interest-free banking system. Design/methodology/approach – The comparative performance analysis was conducted by means of logistic regression method during the period of 2001-2009. The CAMELS approach is utilized to assess the managerial and financial performance of banks. Findings – The results signify that Islamic banks operating in Turkey perform better in profitability and asset management ratios compared to conventional banks but lag in sensitivity to market risk criterion. These findings might mainly be ascribed to the fact that these banks allow lower provisional losses compared to conventional banks and have some tax advantages. Research limitations/implications – Utilizing a more recent and consistent data set, the analyses could be replicated to determine if the results are subject to any sample bias. Practical implications – These finding reveal significant implications for potential entrants into Turkish banking sector particularly for foreign investors. Social implications – The findings from this study may reinforce the awareness and confidence in participating banks in Turkey. Originality/value – Turkey is particularly interesting to conduct this analysis because Turkey is a Muslim but secular country and both Islamic and conventional banks are subject to same set of banking regulations which are based on Western traditional banking system. Furthermore, to the knowledge, there is not a comprehensive study that compares the performance of conventional and Islamic banks in a Western banking system.

Interest income is considered as forbidden in Islam. Therefore, in Turkey, conservatives generally don’t prefer general banking and by this way funds can’t be used in economic system. So saving deficit can’t be solved in country and saving of people depreciates against inflation. Participation banks which work according to Islamic rules are set up to bring these funds to economy. Participation banking operates in more than 60 countries today and conservatives generally prefer to work with because they are working to principles of profit instead of interest. To attract and persuade more people, at first participation banks should satisfy their customers. In our study we aim to measure customer satisfaction in participation banks in Kastamonu and to reveal the differences between demographic groups. To this aim we conducted a questionnaire to customers of participation banks in Kastamonu.

Background and Objectives: Sudden cardiac death (SCD), particular among elite footballers, has attracted much attention in recent times. However, limited information exists on football-related SCD in Turkey. Autopsy-based studies of sports-related sudden deaths in Turkey are rare and often have small sample sizes. To address this, this study aimed to determine the population-based incidence and profile of football-related SCD nationally in Turkey. Materials and Methods: Due to a lack of national data on this issue, football-related SCD (non-elite competitive or recreational football) between 1 January 2011, and 31 December 2019 were identified by dual, independent identification and screening of online media reports. Deaths were explored by sex, age group, season, and phase of exercise. Descriptive statistics were utilised. Age-specific mortality rates and proportional mortality rates were calculated. Results: In total, 118 football-related SCD were identified, a crude mortality rate of 0.41 per 100,000 population. All fatalities were males and the mean age was 35.5 years ± 10.4. Those aged 40–49 years recorded the highest mortality rate (0.67/100,000), three times the risk of those aged 50–59 years (RR = 3.1; 95%CI:1.5–6.4). Those aged 30–39 recorded the highest age-specific proportional mortality rate (0.86/1000 deaths). The highest risk occurred while playing football (n = 97; 82.2%), with another 15% of deaths (n = 18) occurring within 1 h of play. Almost all fatalities (n = 113; 95.8%) occurred during participation in recreational football. Conclusions: This study has identified football-related SCD most commonly occurs during recreational football among males aged 30–49 years. It is recommended males of this age participating in recreational football be encouraged to seek pre-participation heart health checks. Given the value of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in responding to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, future research should explore the feasibility and effectiveness of AEDs in preventing football-related SCD in Turkey including training of first responders in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED use.

The article covered the formation of norms on compensation for damage caused by state bodies, the participation of state bodies in delict relations as a "state institution" as well as a "legal entity" and the importance of this. Also, the specific aspects of delict responsibility of public institutions were explained. It was substantiated in which cases the obligation of state bodies to compensate for damage should be paid from the state budget and in which cases at the expense of their own extra-budgetary funds. The opinions of Civilist scientists expressed by officials of state bodies on the issue of compensation for damages caused by unlawful decisions, illegal actions (inaction) were analyzed. From foreign countries, for example, Germany, England, Turkey, Ukraine, the legislation of the Russian Federation and a number of CIS countries has been studied. In our national legislation, proposals and recommendations have been developed to improve the mechanism of compensation for damage caused by state bodies. In the process of exercising the powers of power by state bodies and their officials, it was scientifically substantiated that it is necessary to establish a special fund of the state in order to ensure timely and full compensation for damage to a citizen and legal entity.

Objectives. Community based breast cancer screening has decreased breast cancer mortality in women. This study examined the predictors of nonattendence for invitational breast cancer screening in relation to socioeconomic status in the city of Manisa, in western Turkey.Study Design. For the evaluation of the reasons for refusing to participate in the study, two districts were selected. 446 women aged between 50 and 69 years were selected from the program database by systematic random sampling.Methods. The questionnaire consisted of sociodemographic variables and the adapted version of Champion's Health Belief Model Scale. Univariete and multivariete logistic regression analysis were performed throughout the data analysis.Results. Being from an urban district and being from the western region were the risk factors for not participating in the screening program (, ). A statistical significance was found between mammography-benefit, mammography-barrier and program participation (, ). Although there were many more barriers for not participating in the screening program for the women of the slum district, the attendence rate of the slum district was higher than that of the urban district.Conclusions. Increased attendance may be achieved through enhancement of breast cancer awareness and by reducing some of the modifiable barriers.

introduction Patients have the right to influence the care they receive, but their wish to participate in care decision-making is unclear. Aim This study investigates whether participation in nursing documentation influences patient participation in care decision-making, mastery, self-esteem, empowerment and depressive feelings among adult in-patients with chronic disease. Materials and Methodology Adult patients (n=39) with chronic diseases were randomized. The intervention group participated in nursing documentation. Upon departure, patients filled in questionnaires about participation in care decision-making, mastery, self-esteem, empowerment and depressive feelings. Results The majority of the patients preferred a collaborative or passive role regarding care decision-making. Lack of knowledge was one reason for non-participation. Having been diagnosed more than five years previously meant stronger empowerment. Conclusion It is a challenge for nurses to find strategies to assess patients’ wishes regarding participation in care decision-making. Nurses must support patients’ knowledge of their disease and empowerment.

Within the global financial system, Islamic banks have a small but growing share, and today they have become an integral part of the global financial system. Islamic banks in the world have been operating according to interest-free financing techniques, which are mainly developed on sharing of profits and losses in accordance with the difference principles between purchase and sale. However, the presentation of financial products in Turkey is conducted by ‘participation banks’ operating according to Islamic rules. Participation banks play a vital role in economic development by gaining the unused funds to the economy. This study will examine the performance of the participation banks operating in Turkey and their increasing share in the Turkish finance sector will be assessed. The work sheet will contain three demands: First: Islamic banks and the difference between them and the definition of riba-based banks. Second: The history of Islamic banks in Turkey. Third: The role of Islamic banks in the sustainable development of the Turkish economy.

It is well reported in the literature that professional development activities have great potential to increase teachers competencies in different areas, resulting in greater learning opportunities for students. In Turkey, however, teachers participation in professional development activities is significantly lower compared to almost all developed countries. In this context, this study aims to explore the different teacher- and school-level factors associated with teachers participation in professional development activities in Turkey by using a nationally representative data set from the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) and employing a multi-level statistical analysis with Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM). Results of the study show that several teacher- and school-level factors are significantly associated with teachers level of participation in professional development activities in Turkey. Specifically, the significant role of school principals in teachers professional development is explored. It is therefore suggested that school principals should be educated on the importance of in-service professional development activities for teachers and their significant role in this matter.

Voluntary participation of 151 fitness individuals selected by random methods was ensured in the study. Information form of personal and Eating Attitude Test (YTT-40) were used to measure the eating attitudes of the individuals participating in the study. The Eating Attitudes Test (YTT-40) is a 6-point (Always, Very Often, Often, Sometimes, Rarely, Never) Likert-type scale consisting of 40 items based on self-report. It was developed to identify adolescents with eating disorders by Garner and Garfinkel (1979) and to measure the symptoms of anorexia nervosa, which can be applied to people older than eleven years of age, and the Turkish adaptation of this scale in Turkey was made by Savasir and Erol (1989). To determine the distribution of the participants’ socio-demographic information; Since descriptive statistics and T test and Anova test were used because the data showed normal distribution. As a result, it was determined that the eating attitudes of the participants showed an important difference in terms of gender and regularly participating in a bodybuilding program.
