Espineira, Karine. "La construction médiatique des transidentités". Nice, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012NICE2010.
Texto completo da fonteThis research, undertaken as Information and Communication Science, focusses upon different forms of media construction of transidentities, under the light of gender studies and cultural studies, showing how our representations generate both social and media-cultural models. This study leans on five years of participative field observation of French transidentities, and also on a body of eight hundred audiovisual documents held by the INA, dating from 1946 to the present day. Understanding the evolutionary process of subject representation by following the field’s shift (trans’ support groups and trans’ people) from the very beginning of the media coverage of trans’ people on television is the essential challenge of this thesis. The Gender device appears in it as both the basis and the drive behind the hegemonic functioning of a co-constructed model, which paradoxically remains a minority model in the field. The study of semantic shifts in the media lexicon of transidentities - characterized by the way in which "back page” news stories have gradually disappeared in favor of "social fact", themselves gradually replaced by the subversive notion of "equal rights "- allows to describe and to analyze the objective links held by the social representations and media representations, which have now become consubstantial

Texto completo da fonteIn law, sex proceeds from the organization of persons into two categories: female and male. Identifying legally people escapes traditionally the individual will. Sex as an element of the state of people is immutable and binary. However, this assignment model leads today to be questioned. On the one hand, transidentitary demands have allowed emerging a concept of identity in terms of fundamental rights and not only in terms of stable identification, imposed by the State. On the other hand, the invisibilization of the intersex people in law and the constraint of the instituted fiction of the binarity of the sexes on their bodies lead to question the legitimacy of the bicategorization and its obligatory character. Finally, the collapse of the naturalist bases of the differentiation of the sexes and the lack of differentiation of norms with respect to sex lead to question the usefulness of the category. Nevertheless, since facts inequalities persist despite the formal equality, gender in its protective dimension may justify a new relevance

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis suggests a sociological analysis of trans-identities' “careers” and Trans subjectivities. Our analysis is based on a statement of fact in which, the concept of “transsexual” does not reflect the depth of Trans-experiences. Therefore, this thesis proves the obsolescence of the french Trans-program as it is constituted in France. Our research is based on a study of the french Transexual-program, observations and participations, being more closely to the Trans-experiences, during five years. From individual and collective redefinitions in variant places, the psychiatry, the associations and the juridical and legal space, this thesis presents the sliding of “transsexualism” as medical question toward a social and political question of “Trans-becoming”. Consequently, the process of gender identification “Trans” which are irreducible to “transsexualism”, reallocate in favor of new forms of trans-expressivity and trans-demands. Thus, leads to the extent of disturbing the hierarchy between the “Trans” and the “non-trans”
Azadi, Bahar. "La transition de genre après la révolution islamique en Iran : la subjectivation trans entre pathologie et résistance". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018USPCB140.
Texto completo da fonteThe history of trans identity in Iran and its legalization after the Islamic Revolution of 1979 often seems perplexing to outside observers. Each country has its own way of accepting, ignoring or repressing the gender transition. The important role of religious discourse on gender transition in Iran is related to the famous fatw' of Ayatollah Khomeini, which sanctioned sex change, in a society where any non-binary identity and non-heterosexual orientation is a criminal act. The fatwa was published first in 1967 and after the 1979 Revolution, in the 1980s, his fatwa gained support, finance and force of law. The legal discourse of the Islamic Republic, which accepts the possibility of inadequation between sex and gender and the medical means of remedying trans suffering, remains beholden to the binary notion of gender. Psychiatric labeling and the medico-legal protocol of sex change are a legitimating reply to trans individual "suffering". Here, the suffering in question refers to the feelings of an Iranian trans individual who believes that his/her soul is "trapped in the wrong body". A biopolitical analysis shows how mandatory sterilization manage bodies and their productive and reproductive capacities and roles in society by putting in concrete territories, the non-binaire bodies as threats to heterocentrist hegemony. Nevertheless, trans individuals use theirs bodies as a site of power, to actualize their own definition of gender binary and being. We analyze the Iranian construction of trans subjectivities by Foucault's concept of power, knowledge and subject in three domains: (i) The religious discourse which legalizes sex change, (ii) The power-knowledge discourse which categorizes trans identity as "gender identity disorder", and (iii) The trans individual reactions to the system. Embodying gender is a process of "becoming" between a trans self-construction and the politico-legal construction of trans identities in each society. The "wrong body narrative" then depends on the conversion of body and self-gender identity and the discursive production of gender binary norms in each society. We try to redefine gender transition as a "passage" in a non-pathological paradigm inspired by Deleuze and Guattari's concept of "rhizome" that we use for analyzing gender transition. Iranian trans individual's status is located beyond resistance and pathology. The trans individual builds his identity and intervenes, in addition, on the norms of the gender. By orienting oneself, by changing, by choosing, the individual inevitably modifies what they become. Bodies in this transition are the center of trans resistance as a process of subjectivisation. Iranian trans individuals react differently to the dominant gender discourse of the society. We made three typologies of trans subjectivities in reaction to legal protocol of sex change. The socio-political context of the society limits all kinds of transactivisme and trans movements. We try to introduce a special kind of resistance of Iranian trans individuals that is not a revolutionary or rebellious resistance, nor is it a public and collective one; it is closer to the concept of "everyday resistance" that describes how people act in their everyday lives in ways that might undermine power. We observed the activities of a trans performer who attempts to sensibilize society about trans identity
Arnold, Aron. "La voix genrée, entre idéologies et pratiques – Une étude sociophonétique". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015USPCA148/document.
Texto completo da fonteThe aim of this dissertation is to investigate the relationship between voice and gender. Phonetic, experimental and ethnographic data have been used to study how the voice is perceived as gendered and how speakers use vocal practices to index gender identities. Two experiments with synthetized and resynthesized voices have shown that fundamental frequency and resonance frequencies play different roles in the perception of gender. The results of these experiments could be reproduced in a third experiment with voices of transgender speakers: under a certain fundamental frequency threshold, voices tend to be perceived as “male voices”; but above this threshold, resonance frequencies define if the voice is perceived as “female voice” or “male voice”. The study of the vocal practices of transgender speakers raised questions about gender passing, and about the indexical link between identities, stances and voice. It also raised the question of the legitimacy of researchers that are identified as cisgender males to do research on trans speaker voices. These different questions could be addressed through ethnographic data. Finally, an analysis of the phonetic literature showed that the research questions and hypotheses, the axioms, the analyses and interpretations of data one can find in phonetic studies can be a vehicle for a sexist and binary gender ideology

Texto completo da fonteThis study allows a first reflection on the fatherhood of transgender men who have used sperm donation with medically assisted procreation. Twenty years ago, the first French sperm bank offered to accompany the request of heterosexual couples which transgender men. To this day only one study about these couples has been published but focused on the development of their children. A reflection on the fatherhood of these men born as women and who are now fathers appears to be necessary. To study this new situation, we have reviewed the psychoanalytic concepts of identity brought to us by Freud and Lacan, and the concept of gender brought to us by the Gender Studies. Also, fatherhood is discussed with the anthropological approach on structure of kinship. The gamete’s donation is addressed in relation to the clinical concept of transmission and the bioethical questioning that it rises. From a psychoanalytical paradigm, we admit a relationship with the phenomenological approach. A quantitative tool (the Five Minute Speech Sample) was adapted in its analysis method to answer: how does a person born as a women and now living as a man will define his fatherhood when benefitting of anonymous sperm insemination in medically assisted procreation? We analyzed the free speech of sixteen transgender men to build a representation of fatherhood in these specific experiences. Points of tension have allowed to identify three sets of disquiets’ signs. Some of them can be encountered in the process toward this specific kind of fatherhood. Being aware of these disquiets’ signs could help us accompany more appropriately people in the quest of their transgender lives
Husson, Anne-Charlotte. "Les mots du genre : Activité métalinguistique folk et constitution d'un événement polémique". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018USPCD047.
Texto completo da fonteFrom 2011, an apparently unprecedented controversy has held a place in the French public sphere. This controversy centres on the concept of gender, specifically its use in school programmes and legislation. The constitution – rather than construction –, between 2011 and 2014, of what is here considered as an event is the focus of this study. The particular aim of this thesis is to understand the role played by folk actor-speakers’ metalinguistic activity about words related to gender in the constitution of such an event. A corpus of web-native francophone utterances (websites, blogs, social networks) was gathered, along with a more heterogeneous reference corpus (books, tweets, emails, transcripts of parliamentary sessions, etc.), in order to analyse, in terms of nomination and definition, how words related to gender became conflictual. The study thus proposes an analysis of polemical discourses which uses words as a point ofentry, and is supported by argumentation theories and contributory knowledge from gender studies and elsewhere. It shows how crucial it is to take into account the prediscourses of folklinguistics, including ethical ones, to understand actor-speakers’ metalinguistic activity and the role it plays in the constitution of the event. By bringing to light a fear of denaturation which affects both sex and language, this thesis also provides gender studies with a new way of interpreting essentialist discourses about the differences between the sexes

Texto completo da fonteThe object of this research is those socio-religious phenomena in Early Christianity, which imply (what could be called from a contemporary perspective) a gender transition or transgendered condition. The study focuses on Eastern Mediterranean during the Late Antiquity period (3rd-7th centuries), with particular attention to the 3rd and 4th centuries, as a time of transformation of Christianity from a minority sect to the majority mass religion. The research is divided into three parts: 1) First, the conceptions of gender and sexual relations in Early Christianity. Here we will dismantle the old belief that the models of monastic repression of sexuality were the prevailing ones from the beginning and how these, on the contrary, were a relatively late product that developed parallel to the popularization of Christianity.2) Second, (what we will call) transgender asceticisms, a set of individuals who, biologically female, lived and were socially recognized as "abbas" (i. e. male ascetics) through their religious practice.3) Thirdly, the self-emasculated Christian ascetics. We will question the hypothesis widely spread in Byzantine Studies of eunuchs as a third gender and we will trace the possible connections between the "galli", self-castrated worshippers of the cult of Cybele-Attis, and the Christian ascetics. Throughout these pages, we will analyze, interpret and reinterpret literary (mainly in Greek) and iconographic sources with the help of a transversal methodology, where the comparison with other contemporary societies occupies a predominant place. We seek this way a change of perspective with respect to previous studies that will allow us to raise new questions and answers in fields where traditional approaches do not seem to be able to go further
Texto completo da fonteSince the beginning of the 20th century and Freud's theoretical progresses on the unconscious, Western societies have gradually evolved towards a depathologization of sexualities and sexuations. To such an extent that the year 2014 saw the officialization of a non-specific sex identity on the Australian territory. This thesis in psychopathology and psychoanalysis proposes to question the meeting between subjective singularities and societal determiners in order to hypothecate the possible echoes that led to the emergence of the first adult citizenship with non-specific sex. What consequences can the recognition of new non-binary identities generate on the modeling of the psychic apparatus and what theoretical adjustments can be considered for the psychoanalytic theorization of the 21st century?

Texto completo da fonteThis research follows the principles of psychosociology, microsociology and social anthropology. It studies social bonds in communities of migrant transgender prostitutes from South America in Paris. In order to do that, we will start analyzing their social organization in their country of origins, and their migration trajectories. We will think three-level analysis for transgender migrant subjectivity : individual, groupal and community. We will also consider different categories such as class, migration, race, ethnicity, etc. We consider that assuming a gender identity different from the one assigned on birth implies for people a stigmatised social existence. In France, we are going to analyse the transition between two professional identities : from prostitution to self-help organizations. We are looking forward to understand how, following a biopolitical proposition from french government related to HIV, subjects try to negotiate in a local level, different identities beyond the « sick » labelling. This analysis will teach us the historical transitions between State and individual roles in modern and contemporary subjectivity

The African novel by the new generation is made at the meeting point of languages and cultures. In its theoretical and paratextual orientation, the fiction discourse by the new generation can be summed up as a « universality-oriented modernity », a place of dialectic link between africanity and globalization. The ideological context of creation of this literature and the identity questioning bring us to consider africanity as a dynamic notion and the literary globalization as a way to competition and literary legitimacy.
The peritextual discourse, which is a high place of readability/visibility, initiates the strategies of this otherness which the novelist develops largely in textual enunciation.
Reshaping the enunciation shows the motivation of a new writing characterized by a breaking up narration, a multiple area coverage and a thematic innovation. Narrative transgression is integrated in the rank of discourses of deconstruction characterizing postmodernity. It is to be read as a reflection of the being in the space between, this is the migrant writer as well as his protagonist. The space in which the latter evolves can be interpreted as a transterritoriarity in which is moulded literary creation sealed by otherness and shows « transidentity » of the character evolving in that space. The thematic perspective reinforces this idea of global otherness structuring the African contemporary narration. It moves into mutations and transgressions characterizing the relationship between africanity and globalization as a place of writing/reading of contemporary novel.
The writing mode gives us a linguistic and stylistic framework in which takes place the otherness africanity-globalization. The new generation novelist works on the French language he uses by means of ingredients of languages and cultures surrounding him. This linguistic and stylistic manipulation is made possible by an interlinguistic game and the humoristic and ironic register which produce aesthetics of the “funny” in front of otherness challenges. The contemporary African writer, encouraged by these linguistic and stylistic manipulations, exploits the oral ressources in order to reconcile the plurality of forms of expression and of language practices of his environment. This writing strategy produces aesthetics of orality, the one which, in addition to exalting the virtues of writing, has recourse to different procedures of orality, showing thus africanity of contemporary text, to mark an opposition against writing and the Western world which embodies it.

Texto completo da fonteThe organization of the medical and juridical treatment of sex changes raises controversies. To be authorized to access hormones and surgeries, trans individuals have to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. In order to modify their civil status, they also need to provide the judge with evidences that justify their demand. In this context, trans persons claim their right to have control over their own body and to receive social recognition. While professionals and activists seem firmly opposed in this debate, they are two interdependent and plural groups of actors. This dissertation first historicizes their interactions and their heterogeneities. Then, it explores the internal diversity of the trans population in a gender perspective. Based on a qualitative survey and on the secondary analysis of a quantitative survey, this research studies how gender shapes transitions, their timing and the material conditions in which they are pursued. Trans men and trans women do not have the same trajectories in terms of conjugality, family and professional career. Their sex changes take place in different self-constructions, including regarding sexuality and the perception of HIV risk. Also, FtMs (female-to-male) experiment social ascension whereas MtFs (male-to-female) face dropout. Sex mobility is possible, but trans individuals cannot avoid the mark of gender
Légeron, Camille. "Traitement de la transidentité dans "Laurence Anyways"". Thèse, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/16149.
Texto completo da fonteOur work revolves around Xavier Dolan’s film Laurence Anyways (2012), in which we will explore the transgender woman representation. First, we will proceed to a film analysis that focuses on trans identity, and then to a double reception analysis: reception in the press, but also reception by trans people. Eventually, we will detail the research-creation process that led us to direct a documentary film featuring two trans people speaking about their views on trans representation in the audiovisual media today.
