Manuscript RB II 2534 from the Real Biblioteca de Madrid contains an unpublished poem by Guillaume des Autelz, addressed and dedicated in 1559 to Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle, bishop of Arras. This study aims to provide the edition of this poem and to contextualize it in the literary trajectory of this poet of the Pléiade. We will observe the evolution that characterizes Des Autelz's trajectory and how, through his relationship with Granvelle, the poet tries to obtain a certain recognition from the Habsburgs.

This essay describes a virtually unknown French revolutionary edition of Rousseau's Social Contract and reconstructs the trajectory of its appearance, disappearance, and reappearance. The purpose of the essay is to show that formal analysis and narrative are inseparable in the act of interpretation and that neither mode of interpretation can escape the historicity of the object.

Abstract: The article analyzes the trajectory of Antônio de Oli veira Cadornega, author of História Geral das Guerras Angolanas (1680). We examine aspects of the work linked to the author’s concerns - the wars involving the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the kingdoms of Congo and Angola - highlighting his Lusocentric position. The 1972 printed edition is used, as well as the bibliography about the work and its author. We seek connections between the writing of the text and the Portuguese political crisis in the seventeenth century, including the inquisitorial one, as well as between the history of its editions and the Portuguese context in the 20th century. The focus of our reflection, however, is that Cadornega was a New Christian, through his mother, and may have practiced Crypto-Judaism, whether in his youth in Vila Viçosa, or in Africa, like the group of Portuguese New Christians studied by Horta and Mark in Senegambia, in The Forgotten Diaspora (2011).

Lotus was a tri-lingual quarterly brought out by the Afro-Asian Writers' Association. Initially titled Afro-Asian Writings, its inaugural edition was launched from Cairo in March 1968, in Arabic and English, followed by the French. By 1971, the trilingual quarterly acquired the name Lotus. Egypt, the Soviet Union, and the German Democratic Republic funded its production. The Arabic edition was printed in Cairo, and the English and French editions were printed in the German Democratic Republic. The Afro-Asian Writers' Association (AAWA) and its over-arching affiliate, the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), both had headquarters in Cairo. In 1978, President Anwar Sadat signed the Camp David Accords and the Permanent Bureau in Cairo was deactivated. Lotus moved to Beirut despite the raging Civil War, where it was was granted home and hospitality by the Union of Palestinian Writers. Its offices remained there until the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 when it once again relocated along with the Palestinian Liberation Organization to Tunis. The journal was discontinued in the late 1980s or early 1990s with the dismantling of the Soviet Union. The Permanent Bureau in Cairo was reinstated, but the journal was not as such reactivated. The project outlines a partial biography of a forgotten magazine from a bipolar world and its interrupted historical networks. It considers graphic and textual elements from the margins of the magazine for evidence of its trajectory.

It’s January, and the JPT issue has a new look and a new digital edition. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the JPT staff, led by Pam Boschee and Glenda Smith, along with the JPT Editorial Review Committee, for producing exciting articles and technology news every month. For some, the move to a digital-only issue of JPT has disrupted reading and sharing habits. While I know that many of you miss having a print version, the SPE Board believes that remaining digital is the right decision as we look to the future. We’ve changed the digital edition this month. Your feedback on how we can make the digital version match your expectations is very important. I want to take the opportunity to wish you, your family, and those who matter to you an excellent year following the roller coaster we experienced in 2021. Last year started with the hope that the rapid development of vaccines soon would be providing us protection against the COVID-19 virus. However, the numerous waves of infection (we are now in the fifth in many countries) and the various mutations of the virus have kept health authorities and governments in a reactive mode. With the number of COVID-19-related fatalities worldwide above 5 million at the end of 2021, nearly all of us had family or friends who were affected. For the economy in general and our industry in particular, 2022 will bring a bag of uncertainties. Mohamed El-Erian, a recognized economic expert, said at 2021 ADIPEC, “The recovery from the pandemic crisis can be characterized by the U’s: uneven, unusual, uncertain.” The December 2021 OECD Economic Outlook mentions, “The rebound is losing some momentum as the surge in demand for goods has met bottlenecks in production chains. Inflation pressures have emerged in all economies.” Among the risks associated with the large stimulus packages are bottlenecks in production chains, disruptions in commodities and energy supply, high inflation rates (which developed economies had not seen for the past 2 decades), and the loss of momentum in the economic rebound. In terms of the upstream activity outlook, James West, senior managing director at Evercore, in an optimistic outlook recently said, “The spending cycle begins anew: 2021 was the beginning,” adding that “2022 is acceleration.” For our industry, this is great news following two sharp downcycles in less than 6 years. The year 2021 ended on a high note. 2021 ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi was a great success from organizational, technical, and attendance standpoints. In addition to the excellent papers and panels, the exhibition attracted large numbers of visitors (in line with 2019 ADIPEC). I was impressed by the eagerness of participants to meet. The exhibition booths were busy with members that wanted to discuss innovation until the last hours of the fourth day of the conference. Great attention was given to ensure the health and safety of the participants. I had the pleasure to attend the SPE Abu Dhabi Section dinner, and I was pleased to see how much progress has been made in diversity and inclusion.

When a test is revised, it is important that test users are made aware of the comparability of scores of the new and the original test. We examined how scores on the Test of Gross Motor Development–Second Edition (TGMD-2) and Test of Gross Motor Development–Third Edition (TGMD-3) compared among children in middle childhood. Participants were 270 children recruited in grade 3 (54% female; Mage = 8 years 6 months) and followed through grade 5. Participants completed the skills of both tests. Subtest scores were converted into percent of maximum possible (POMP) scores to facilitate comparison. Although similar, uniformly the TGMD-3 POMP scores were slightly lower. Repeated measures analyses of variance revealed that locomotor subtest scores derived from both tests improved from grade 3 to grade 5, as did TGMD-3 assessed ball skills. However, there was no difference in TGMD-2 assessed object control skills over time. It appears that under-contribution by the underhand roll suppressed the trajectory of improvement of TGMD-2 assessed object control skills. This finding supports the exclusion of the roll from the TGMD-3. The consistent pattern of sex-based differences in TGMD-2 object control skill and TGMD-3 ball skills reinforces the need for male and female norm-reference data for ball skills.

In legged robot movement planning, the leg must be carefully design before trajectory analysis can be done. The objective of this paper is to develop a 3 DOF leg which will be used in quadruped robot. In addition, forward kinematic and comparison between real and simulation of the leg is presented. To achieve the objective, SolidWorks 2013 x64 Edition is used to develop the 3D modeling of the leg while SimMechanics with First Generation Format was applied to export the models to Simulink. For the comparison purposes, real model of 3 DOF leg with Arduino Pro Mini 328 - 5V/16MHz as a microcontroller to control the rotation of three servomotors was constructed. With MIT AI2 Companion software, android apps is developed to send signal to rotate each servomotor wirelessly. The zero position of the leg robot has been determined and the maximum rotation range of each servomotor. This is very important in determination of D-H Parameters which allow the resolving of kinematics problems. It is found that specific rotations of each servomotor provide the trajectory pattern of the leg which is compared through Simulink and real model. Nevertheless, there are errors between simulation and real position of the robot leg due to the open loop system.

Abstract: The use of philosophical phenomenology for conceptual debates in psychiatric nosology and psychopathology is beginning to be recognized. In this paper, we extend this trajectory to include Tourette syndrome (TS), focusing on so-called premonitory urges (PU) preceding Tourettic tics. We clarify some inconsistencies around typology in both phenomenological description and medical classification (i.e., in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders , 5th edition, Text Revision, International Classification of Diseases , 10th edition [World Health Organization, 2004], and the scales that elicit PU). We show how a less typological approach might be usefully deployed in the field, that being the dimensional approach developed by Fernandez (2019a; 2019b). We test both the typological and dimensional approaches in relation to the experience and etiological role of PU in Tourette syndrome. Based on our synthesis of existing studies and new information garnered through phenomenological interviews (using an approach associated with "micro-phenomenology"), we argue that the role of PU in nosology challenges both the current "operational" criteria favored by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders , 5th edition, Text Revision, that are focused on behaviorally observed symptoms, as well as essential and prototypical phenomenological descriptions about a given "type" of experience.

This edition of the International Journal of Critical Indigenous Studies marks the tenth since the journal’s launch in 2008. During that time, over forty articles and eleven book reviews have been published, which is testament to the continuing upward trajectory of Critical Indigenous Studies. Although there continues to be an increasing range of areas of Indigenous research to which a critical focus is brought to bear, a consistent issue for many of the journal’s contributors has been the delineation and application of Indigenous methods and methodologies in social research. The present edition is no exception, with two articles focussing on Indigenous-centred research. The first, by Krystal Summers, reflexively explores the author’s experiences as an undergraduate student undertaking Indigenous-centred research in Peru. As an Indigenous First Nations woman, Summers was mindful that her research practice was faithful to the ethics and protocols outlined in her original project proposal. Her subsequent ‘journey of critical reflexive understanding and storytelling’ supports the proposition of current literature in Indigenous research methodologies that a properly critical Indigenous ethnography will naturally enjoin with Indigenous epistemologies and methodologies

Many aerospace industrial applications require robust and efficient numerical solutions of large sparse nonlinear constrained parameter optimization problems arising from optimal trajectory problems. A three-dimensional multistage launcher problem is taken as a numerical example for studying the performance and applicability of the full-space Lagrange–Newton–Krylov method. The typical optimal trajectory, control history and other important physical qualities are presented, and the efficiency of the algorithm is also investigated. References J. T. Betts. The vector six-degrees-of-freedom (6-DOF) differential equations of motion are an updated edition of those published by Lieske and McCoy and are consistent with STANAG 4355 (Ed. 3). The mathematical models have been used to developing software for simulating the flight of the Denel 155mm Assegai M2000 series artillery projectile and to conduct comprehensive research of the influence of the applied model and integration step on the accuracy and time of computation of projectile trajectory.

The analysis of Bettendorff’s trajectory and the contexts of the late seventeenth century help to understand the reasons for the publication of this catechism, being different from the one in use in the Jesuit missions. The two copies of the princeps edition still accessible allow a linguistic, historical and anthropological deepening of Jesuit evangelization in the Portuguese Amazon.

ObjectiveTo describe the cognitive, language and motor developmental trajectories of children born very preterm and to identify perinatal factors that predict the trajectories.DesignData from a cohort of 1142 infants born at <30 weeks’ gestation who were prospectively assessed on the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, third edition (Bayley-III) at 3, 6, 12 and 24 months corrected age, were analysed using the Super Imposition by Translation and Rotation (SITAR) growth curve analysis model.Main outcome measuresDevelopmental trajectory SITAR models for Bayley-III cognitive, language (receptive and expressive communication subscales) and motor (fine and gross motor subscales) scores.ResultsThe successfully fitted SITAR models explained 62% of variance in cognitive development, 68% in receptive communication, 53% in fine motor and 68% in the gross motor development. There was too much variation in the expressive communication subscale to fit a SITAR model. The rate of development (gradient of the curve) best explains the variation in trajectories of development in all domains. Lower gestational age, lower birth weight and male sex significantly predicted a slower rate of development.ConclusionThe rate of development, rather than single time point developmental assessment, best predicts the very preterm infant’s developmental trajectory and should be the focus for monitoring and early intervention.

Background and Objectives: Preterm infants are at higher risk of neurodevelopmental impairment both at preschool and school ages, even in the absence of major neurological deficits. The early identification of children at risk is essential for early intervention with rehabilitation to optimize potential outcomes during school years. The aim of our study is to assess cognitive outcomes at preschool age in a cohort of low-risk very preterm infants, previously studied at 12 and 24 months using the Griffiths scales. Materials and Methods: Sixty-six low-risk very preterm infants born at a gestational age of <32 weeks were assessed at 12 and 24 months corrected age using the Griffiths Mental Development Scales (second edition) and at preschool age with the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence (third edition) (WPPSI-III). Results: At 12 and 24 months and at preschool age, low-risk very preterm infants showed scores within normal ranges with similar scores in males and females. A statistically significant correlation was observed in the general developmental quotient between 12 and 24 months; a further significant correlation was observed between the early cognitive assessments and those performed at preschool age, with a better correlation using the assessments at 24 months. Conclusion: The present study showed a favourable trajectory of cognitive development in low-risk very preterm infants, from 12 months to preschool age.

One of the challenges (Challenge 1) required an aerial robot to detect, follow and catch a yellow ball hanging underneath a fast-moving drone. In this challenge, we developed an articulated aerial robot that could intercept the target. This study presents reliable vision-based detection, target-trajectory estimation, fast interception-planning, and -control. Furthermore, we discuss outdoor experiments for evaluating our hardware and software systems, as well as the competition results in Abu Dhabi. Isaac Casaubon’s 1605 Persius edition and its companion-piece, the De satyrica Graecorum poesi et Romanorum satira, likewise published in 1605, have long been considered milestones in the history of scholarship on Ancient satire. Marshalling evidence from humanist correspondences, annotated copies of early printed books, manuscripts and visual materials, this study offers a fresh and much fuller and more nuanced view of either book’s trajectory from concept to print and distribution, of the motivations and guiding principles behind Casaubon’s research, and, more generally, of scholarly endeavor around the turn of the seventeenth century. I demonstrate how Casaubon’s work on satire is linked to the humanist recovery of Ancient scholia, how its erudition integrates observations on the contemporary world and non-textual evidence, and how it is marked by fierce scholarly rivalry and – hitherto underestimated – confessional differences.

The paper reconstructs the controversy over the definition of philosophy established by the group of young people who in 1917 founded in Buenos Aires the Colegio Novecentista and the Cuadernos (1917-1919) with whom they defended socialist scientism and met around the Journal of Philosophy and its director José Ingenieros. Inscribed in intellectual history, this reconstruction attends to the history of the book and the edition to illuminate the material channels that made possible the circulation of the antipositivist reaction and offers new information about the initial trajectory of intellectuals who were relevant both in the philosophical and literary field of twentieth-century Argentina.

This fourth edition of our journal is dedicated to discussing topics of international relations. This focus is timely, as the international community is grappling with seismic changes in humankind’s societies, politics, and economies. The Western world is facing a downward trajectory of human development due to aging populations, stagnant economic growth, and the rise of social and religious extremisms that threaten systems of democracy and meritocracy. All these changes are shaping not only government policies, but also the lives of billions of people across the world, and hence, their developments are necessary to follow. The Muslim world is not immune to the changes and must also adapt to the changes that occur both within the Muslim world and in the West. Some Muslim majority countries, such as Indonesia, continuously try to find their right position in the global world.

ObjectiveTo determine the trajectory of cognitive test scores from infancy to adulthood in individuals born extremely preterm compared with term-born individuals.DesignA prospective, population-based cohort study.Setting276 maternity units in the UK and Ireland.Patients315 surviving infants born less than 26 completed weeks of gestation recruited at birth in 1995 and 160 term-born classroom controls recruited at age 6.Main outcome measuresBayley Scales of Infant Development-Second Edition (age 2.5); Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children (ages 6/11); Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence-Second Edition (age 19).ResultsThe mean cognitive scores of extremely preterm individuals over the period were on average 25.2 points below their term-born peers (95% CI −27.8 to −22.6) and remained significantly lower at every assessment. Cognitive trajectories in term-born boys and girls did not differ significantly, but the scores of extremely preterm boys were on average 8.8 points below those of extremely preterm girls (95% CI −13.6 to −4.0). Higher maternal education elevated scores in both groups by 3.2 points (95% CI 0.8 to 5.7). Within the extremely preterm group, moderate/severe neonatal brain injury (mean difference: −10.9, 95% CI −15.5 to −6.3) and gestational age less than 25 weeks (mean difference: −4.4, 95% CI −8.4 to −0.4) also had an adverse impact on cognitive function.ConclusionsThere is no evidence that impaired cognitive function in extremely preterm individuals materially recovers or deteriorates from infancy through to 19 years. Cognitive test scores in infancy and early childhood reflect early adult outcomes.

In this paper we explore and challenge the trajectory of research scholarship in the area of Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK). In doing so we adopt the position, as elaborated in Harris et al.’s (2017) editorial, that TPACK research is in need of addressing two key questions: What do teachers need to know in order to integrate technology effectively in the classroom and how can they best develop that knowledge? In order to explore this concern we undertook a review of research using the TPACK framework published in the Australasian Journal of Educational Technology over the last five years. The resulting 22 papers in which the TPACK framework was used substantially as a theoretical or methodological base for the research was analysed in regards to how TPACK scholarship is developing in relation to the research directions set out in the Harris et al.’s (2017) special edition editorial. The review concludes that much of the research identified focused on exploring, critiquing and validating the structure of the TPACK diagram and the seven components it describes. However, we argue that this focus has distracted researchers from addressing the key goals of TPACK and advancing understanding of effective teaching with technology. We conclude that there is a need for a fundamental shift in the trajectory of TPACK research, that is, to pay greater attention to understanding the knowledge that teachers need to use technology effectively for teaching and learning.

This article focuses on the intersections of politics, celebrity, authorship, and print culture in John Cam Hobhouse’s publishing career and his associations with Byron. The nature of print authorship and Byron’s ascendant celebrity status forced Hobhouse to consider the dichotomy between individual and author. As Byron’s meteoric literary rise contrasted with the slower and haltingly achieved political trajectory of Hobhouse, the latter was not above using his earlier and ongoing publishing and personal collaborations with Byron as a means to attain political standing. At Chicago’s Newberry Library I discovered a previously undocumented piece of marginalia: an authorial inscription by, or on behalf of, Hobhouse to Viscount Sidmouth in a copy of the first edition of his Journey through Albania, as well as some meaningful marginalia elsewhere in the book. In light of Hobhouse’s important role in instigating the destruction of Byron’s memoirs, this article reconsiders Hobhouse’s ambivalent relationship to the lasting effects of both print authorship and manuscript handwriting.

The article offers, from a Christian perspective, an ‘interested’ reading of Romans 9-11 with a view to the problem of Christian supersessionism. Focusing on the identity and character of Israel, it offers a theologically engaged reading that resists a classic supersessionist logic. Drawing on recent historical scholarship on Jewish and Christian developments in the early centuries CE, the article argues for the underdetermined, contested and constructed character of postbiblical Israel. It then builds on a minority trajectory within recent Pauline scholarship that finds only one Israel in Romans 9-11, an Israel which embraces Christ-believing Gentiles but does not exclude non-Christ-believing Jews. Finally, it argues for a retrieval of Karl Barth’s insight (developed in the second edition of his Romans commentary) that hardened Israel is the church. Christians are thereby summoned not just to solidarity with others who have been hardened, but also to confession of their own hardening.

The development of motor skill proficiency during childhood is cumulative and influenced by physical growth and maturation, genetic potential, affordances in the physical and social environment, and the interactions between these factors. Therefore, typically during childhood, the trajectory of change in motor proficiency is positive. To lend developmental validity to the revision of the Test of Gross Motor Development—3rd edition (TGMD-3), this longitudinal study examined whether the skills and subtests of the TGMD-3 changed as might be expected from grade 3 to grade 4 among 277 children. The findings of this study lend support to the developmental validity of the TGMD-3 in that (1) there was within-individual change in the expected direction for both locomotor and ball skills, (2) consistent with the majority of research, boys had significantly higher ball skills scores than girls in both grade 3 and grade 4, and (3) the mean percent of maximum possible scores were in the range of approximately 60–75, which demonstrates that the majority of 8- and 9-year-old children had not reached a ceiling on this test.

The Next Generation Core Competencies (NGCC) guide the professional development of future emergency managers. Once familiar roles are evolving as the world grows more interdependent; at the same time, disaster risk factors are intensified by the changing interactions between the social, built, and physical environments. The updated edition of emergency management core competencies is particularly important for refining the trajectory of the emergency management discipline and developing capacities requisite to reducing disaster risk and building resilient communities in the midst of a turbulent, complex, and uncertain future. The NGCC project was a multiphase study conducted by a FEMA-sponsored focus group. Oriented toward future needs, the competencies have been built on the current emergency management competencies, a review of related competencies and global risk trends, a multiphase Delphi study, and wider emergency management community listening sessions. Behavioral anchors and key actions for measurement accompany the new core competencies. The overarching goal of the work is to establish the next generation emergency management core competencies, which are likely to underpin the emergency management workforce of 2030 and beyond. The 13 core competencies fall into three nested categories that are interrelated, but have attributes that build the individual, the practitioner, or relationships.

Recent decades have seen much scholarly exploration of Robert Burns’s impact on Irish writers, particularly those connected with the province of Ulster. Less explored is the antagonistic and opportunistic response to Burns in Ireland by a number of poets, editors and patrons. This article will chart Thomas Percy (1729–1811) and his literary circle’s responses in the Dromore area of County Down to Burns’s roles as poet, song collector and literary celebrity. It will argue that Percy and his associates reacted to Burns’s work and literary afterlife with a two-pronged strategy. First, they sought to emulate Burns through publishing or providing financial assistance to a number of texts of poetry and song. Secondly, they sought to establish a network of patrons and authors who employed literature as a means to portray a stable and loyal Ireland after the Union of 1800/1. As well as a heavily revised edition of Percy’s Reliques of Ancient English Poetry (1795), the group created platforms for a variety of poets including Thomas Stott, Hugh Porter and Patrick Brontë. This strategy sought to invoke Burns directly as an influence, but also implicitly to exclude his legacy from shaping the writing of the circle. This article suggests that the strategy was not fully successful. Despite the generally good reception of Percy’s fourth edition of the Reliques, the other authors in the circle did not always receive praise for their work, and writers like Stott were criticised for their weak, sycophantic verse. It will claim that for some of this circle, such as Hugh Porter, Burns’s influence played a major role in shaping the promotion of their writing careers. However, for many, there was an attempt to manage the trajectory of the writer’s work and career that minimised the agency and reach of the author. Ultimately, notwithstanding the attempts to quell and minimise Robert Burns’s impact in County Down, his inspiration remained powerful and difficult to contain.

Children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) are at increased risk for attention problems. While most research has been conducted with school-aged cohorts, preschool-aged children offer a novel developmental window for clinical studies, with the promise that treatments implemented earlier in the developmental trajectory may most effectively modify risk for later difficulties. Designing research studies around the youngest children with NF1 can result in intervention earlier in the developmental cascade associated with NF1 gene abnormalities. Furthermore, clinical trials for medications targeting physical and psychological aspects of NF1 often include individuals spanning a wide age range, including preschool-aged children. In a prior report, the REiNS Neurocognitive Subcommittee made recommendations regarding performance-based and observer-rated measures of attention for use in clinical trials and highlighted the need for separate consideration of assessment methods for young children. The observer-rated Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale–Preschool version is recommended as a primary outcome measure. The NIH Toolbox Flanker, Dimensional Change Card Sort, and List Sort Working Memory tasks and Digits Forward from the Differential Ability Scales–2nd Edition (performance-based measures) are recommended as secondary outcome measures. Specific methodologic recommendations for inclusion of preschoolers in clinical trials research are also offered.

Although children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) show impaired precision grip control due to a sensory-motor integration deficit, their spatial instability (such as changes in force direction and object roll during a precision grip task) is unclear. Herein, we investigated the spatial instability in the precision grip force control of children with poor manual dexterity. We divided 66 school-aged children who performed a precision gripping and lifting of heavy- or lightweight objects into those with low manual dexterity (n = 11) and those with high manual dexterity (n = 55) as revealed by the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (2nd edition). The group and weight effects were then determined. The results revealed that the total trajectory lengths of the center of pressure (COP) were longer in the lightweight object data of the children in the low-manual-dexterity group and were related to the children’s grip force. The low-manual-dexterity group also showed a shifted COP position from the center of the object in the medial–lateral direction and in the object roll regardless of the object’s weight; these were closely related in both weights’ tests. These results demonstrated that children with poor manual dexterity show spatial instability and different adaptations to the weight of objects during a precision grip task. Further studies are needed to determine whether these findings would be replicated in children with a diagnosis of DCD.

Dianetics was unveiled to the public in the May 1950 edition of Astounding Science Fiction. Dianetics was the brainchild of science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard, and became the foundation for scientology toward the end of the decade. Dianetics was marketed as a “scientific” method for mental improvement—a robust alternative to conventional psychiatry—and was strongly debated in science fiction (sf) magazines. This article follows the trajectory of this cultural phenomenon from 1949 to 1999 as it appeared in this form of popular culture. A proximal reading method was applied to analyze 4,431 magazines, and identified 389 references to dianetics and scientology. References were found in advertising, reader letters, stories, feature articles, and editorials. Significant fluctuations in the prominence and perception of dianetics became clearly visible in the source material across a broad spectrum of content. Negative criticism was present from the outset, and based on logical and scientific arguments. This was countered by obfuscation, or attacks on the authors of these critiques. The followers and promoters of dianetics did not provide scientifically rigorous proof of their claims, and by the mid-1980s, dianetics and scientology were no longer serious topics in the magazines but had been added to other fads and fallacies of sf history. This article demonstrates the effectiveness of a digital humanities proximal reading method to underpin objective classification and analysis of this culturally significant phenomenon.

Objective:The purpose of the present study is to characterize the trajectory of internalizing and externalizing behaviors in children with NF1 longitudinally from the early childhood period to the school age period on a broad psychosocial norm-referenced measure using linear mixed model growth curves.Participants and Methods:Children with NF1 (n=28) were seen at least once between the ages of 3-8 years old and then again between the ages of 9-13 years old. Parents completed the Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) Second Edition; the version of the BASC administered depended on age (i.e., preschool form or child form). Linear mixed model growth curve analyses were used to examine the developmental trajectories of children with NF1 on the following scales, which were selected due to findings in the literature: Externalizing Problems, Internalizing Problems, Hyperactivity, Anxiety, Depression, Attention, and Executive Function. T-scores (M=50, SD=10) were used. Higher scores indicate more challenges. Results:By using loess lines to qualitatively describe the patterns of ratings across time, it is evident that most scales (Externalizing Problems, Internalizing Problems, Hyperactivity, Attention Problems, Executive Function) demonstrated curvilinear trajectory patterns, with scores peaking in the 8-10-year-old range, then decreasing again. However, there was no statistically significant effect of age on any of the scales. Notably, trajectories largely included standard scores within the normative range (T-scores between 45-55).Conclusions:Overall, the models also suggest that most children with NF1 are within the average range of functioning on all scales examined across the childhood period. Furthermore, with the exception of the Depression and Anxiety scales, ratings tend to peak around the 8-10-year period, and then decrease into early adolescence. Thus, when working with patients with NF1, it may be the case that clinicians note relative increases in challenges across these domains in late childhood, though these challenges may decrease over time during this age range. Linear growth curve modeling identified that the developmental trajectories of internalizing and externalizing behaviors of children with NF1, as rated by parents, remain stable across the childhood period. Importantly, low power may have contributed to the lack of observed age effects. Longitudinal research would be beneficial to capture patterns that may emerge in adolescence or adulthood.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the Brazilian strategy of regional insertion with the support of the Marxist Theory of Dependency (MTD), represented by the work of Ruy Mauro Marini because it allows for the consideration of relations of power within the national scenario and policies resulting from class alliances embedded in the domestic structure of dependency. Design/methodology/approach – The paper discusses the main positions concerning the Varieties of Capitalism approach, arguing that the MTD and specifically Marini’s work can contribute to overcoming some of its limits. These arguments are illustrated through the analysis of the Brazilian strategy of regional competitive insertion focusing on the IIRSA project and the Brazilian Multinational Companies directly involved. Findings – The concept of sub-imperialism has helped to understand the logic behind the Brazilian strategy of regional insertion as part of a historical trajectory that includes the re-edition of a political drive for being the regional leader; the privilege of class fractions benefiting from the access to public funds and new markets (necessary to guarantee their continued and increased profitability); the reinforcement of regional inequalities and, at the same time, the reproduction of Brazilian dependency. Originality/value – A renewed MTD can contribute to understanding the specific politico-economic strategies of peripheral countries. It can also overcome the limits of the Varieties of Capitalism approach by articulating the economic and political dimensions; by avoiding the structural – functionalist constrains of the institutional perspective; and by allowing the consideration of marginalized voices, rather than considering only the institutionalized ones.

(1) Background: The developmental model describes possible mechanisms that could impact the trajectory of children and adolescents’ health behaviors related to obesity; however, few data are available that support this model in the adolescent population. This study investigated the associations among motor competence (MC), moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), perceived motor competence (PMC), and aerobic fitness in children and adolescents and the mediating and moderating effects of PMC, aerobic fitness, and weight status on the MC–MVPA relationship. (2) Methods: Participants included 47 adolescents (12.2 ± 1.6 y; 55% male) who completed the Bruininks–Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, 2nd Edition (MC), Harter’s perceived self-competency questionnaire (PMC), and the PACER test (aerobic fitness) and whose MVPA was measured via accelerometry. The body mass index (BMI) was calculated from measured height and weight. (3) Results: There were positive correlations between MC and fitness [rs(47) = 0.469, p < 0.01], PMC and fitness [rs(47) = 0.682, p < 0.01], and PMC and MC [rs(47) = 0.416, p < 0.01]. There were no associations among MVPA and MC, PMC, or fitness (p > 0.05). There were inverse associations between BMI and both MVPA [rs(44) = −0.410, p < 0.01] and fitness [rs(47) = 0.295, p < 0.05]. The association between MC and MVPA was mediated by fitness (β = 0.3984; 95% CI (0.0564–0.7985)). (4) Conclusions: The associations among MC, PMC, and fitness highlight the critical role of MC in health and partially support the proposed developmental model concerning the relationships that exist among MC, MVPA, PMC, fitness, and BMI.

Abstract In Brazil, data from the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System (SIVEP-Flu), indicate that up to June 2020, about 71% of deaths from Covid19 were of elderly, with and without comorbidities. Since the SARS-Cov2 pandemic, health of the elderly population with mental health problems has been hard hit. The study scenario was the 2023 Summer Edition of the Intergenerational and Inclusion Camp on Health, Science and Technology / Lab Project for the Valorization of Aging (PROVE). The implementation research design was a teaching-research-service action by graduate, undergraduate and two high school students. Supported by the lab faculty and librarian, students searched for evidence-based practices, and in the light of health equity, selected the hand washing demand of underserved older adults to develop a ludic-informative workshop, for motivating self-care practices. In the methodological trajectory, participants (i) were divided into two teams; (ii) had representatives put latex gloves and blindfolds on and washable colored paint poured on the gloves; (iii) received instructions to demonstrate how they washed their hands; (iv) blindfolds were removed and a debate took place on the procedure and its importance; (v) students demonstrated the correct technique using gloves and paint. Older adults reported having had fun and learning significantly more. The approach was evaluated as empowering, noting that the visualization of the inks on the gloves specifically allowed identifying points to be refined. Other topics and subsequent workshops were suggested. In conclusion, light and flexible fun, evidence-based and motivating strategies are protective and promote comprehensive health care.

Background Developmental assessment is an important facility for early detection and intervention of developmental delay in children. Objective: to assess the performance of a sample of middle social class Egyptian infants and toddlers on Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development-third edition (Bayley III), and to compare their cognitive, motor, and communication scores with that of the reference norms. Methods It was a cross-sectional pilot study, included 270 children aged 18–42 months. Mothers filled a questionnaire including questions about family socioeconomic background, perinatal history, and family history. Physical examination and growth assessment of children were performed. Developmental assessment of cognitive, language and motor skills was performed using the Bayley III scales and compared the American norm scores with the Egyptian mean scores. Results The mean cognitive, language and motor composite scores were 92.5+18.5, 91.76+ 15.6, and 95.67+18.9 respectively. All were lower than the American mean (100+ 15) with highly significant differences. About one-fourth of the enrolled Egyptian children had below-average composite scores according to the US cutoff point. The ranks of Egyptian children on the American versus the Egyptian percentile curves were significantly different. Conclusion Mean values of all assessed developmental domains of Egyptian children are within the norm-referenced average of Bayley III, but lower than the recorded American mean. Assessing Egyptian children according to the American norms may result in overestimating developmental delay. This pilot study raised the question about using different cutoff points suitable for the developmental trajectory of Egyptian children. Answering this question needs further studies on Bayley-III after cultural adaptation and standardization, using a larger, more diverse, and representative sample of the Egyptian population.

Background: Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is a clinically defined entity that is recognized by the 2022 International Consensus Classification and the 5 th Edition of the WHO. While the Clonal Hematopoiesis Risk Score (CHRS) incorporates 8 variables that underlie a prognostic framework for prediction of risk for progression to myeloid neoplasm (MN) (Weeks LD et al., NEJM Evidence 2023), there remains debate as to the role of mutations in epigenetic regulators, such as DNMT3A, TET2 and ASXL1 (“DTA”), with respect to clinical outcomes in the real-world setting. Although DTA mutations often occur early in myeloid pathogenesis, the persistence of these mutations as age-related clonal hematopoiesis (CH) might not significantly influence clinical course (Jongen-Lavrencic M et al., NEJM 2018). We have previously observed impaired clearance of DTA-mutant clones with hypomethylating agent or intensive chemotherapy for myelodysplastic neoplasms and acute myeloid leukemia (ASH abstract 4122; Blood (2022) 140 (Supplement 1): 9150-9151), and we now seek to understand the impact of sole DTA mutations in patients with CH. Methods: We studied a pre-selected group of patients who had an indication for undergoing bone marrow evaluation. Such indications included cytopenia(s), elevated blood cell count(s), staging/workup for lymphoma, and radiographic marrow abnormalities. Patients with CH were identified via concurrent morphologic, cytogenetic, and molecular diagnostics of bone marrow aspirates reviewed by UMass and Stanford Hematopathology from 2013 to 2023. CH was defined as presence of a somatic mutation with variant allele frequency (VAF) ≥ 2% on molecular diagnostics or non-myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)-defining clonal cytogenetic aberration in a patient without morphologic evidence of MN. A total of 79 patients with CH were identified, then segregated based on presence or absence of sole DTA mutations. Results: We assessed the clinical trajectory of patients with CH who did not exclusively have DTA mutations (“non-sole DTA;” n = 58) (Panel A) compared to patients with CH who had DTA mutations alone without any other concurrent mutations (“sole DTA;” n = 21) (Panel B). The median age at detection of CH for sole DTA vs. non-sole DTA was 71.0 ± 2.11 years vs. 71.5 ± 1.45 years, respectively ( p = 0.454). Median number of mutations for sole DTA vs. non-sole DTA patients was 1.24 ± 1.2 vs. 2.24 ± 0.18, respectively ( p < 0.0001). Median follow-up for all patients was 450 days, and the median overall survival was not reached for either group. For non-sole DTA patients, 44 of 58 patients (76%) did not progress, while 14 of 58 patients (24%) progressed to frank MN at the time of analysis. Types of frank MN in the 14 progressors included MDS (50%), MDS/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) overlap (28.6%), AML (14.3%), and MPN (7.1%). For sole DTA patients, 0 of 21 patients (0%) progressed. Regarding distribution of VAFs for sole DTA patients vs. non-sole DTA patients, mean VAF was 13.5% ± 1.91% vs. 31.6% ± 2.18%, respectively ( p < 0.001). For patients with both DTA mutations plus additional mutations, mean VAF for non-progressors vs. progressors was 30.4% ±1.47% vs. 38.6% ± 2.97%, respectively ( p = 0.206). For patients without any DTA mutations but with other somatic mutations, mean VAF for non-progressors vs. progressors was 29.7% ±1.67% vs. 35.2% ± 2.26%, respectively ( p = 0.160). Conclusion: In this study of pre-selected patients with CH, DTA mutations alone were insufficient for progression to frank MN. Progressors included patients with either (1) DTA mutations plus concurrent mutations, or (2) patients without DTA mutations but presence of mutations in other gene clusters. The clinical trajectory of patients with CH in our study differs from that of patients from large consortia possibly because our patients presented with an indication for testing, reflecting real-world data. A limitation of our analysis is the variability in time to recognition and diagnosis of CH, which reflects the high heterogeneity of these patients. Still, our data suggest the need for large-scale studies in the real-world setting to better prognosticate the relevance of DTA mutations for this patient population.

Objective Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) face a unique set of unmet needs. A subset of these patients experience symptom control challenges related to their disease burden and treatments. A multidisciplinary approach involving palliative medicine is underutilized but crucial to identify and address these concerns. There is limited information on palliative integration with head and neck oncology. Study Design Case series with planned data collection. Setting Academic quaternary care center. Subjects and Methods We provide descriptive analyses of patients with HNC, including psychodiagnostic assessment and validated quality-of-life screening, from patients’ first encounter at outpatient palliative medicine. Results HNC (N = 80) contributed the greatest number of palliative referrals (25%) between 2010 and 2012. This cohort was 74% male and 79% Caucasian with a mean age of 53 years (95% CI, 51.1-54.9) and with stage IV disease of the oral cavity (28%) or oropharynx (31%). Sixty-three percent of patients had no evidence of disease. Seventy-five percent had a psychological history based on DSM-IV criteria ( Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition), and 70% had a history of substance use disorder. The most distressing quality-of-life concerns were pain, housing and financial problems, and xerostomia. Conclusions Patients with HNC who were referred to palliative medicine are burdened by multiple physical, psychological, substance use, and social challenges. We recommend comprehensive cancer-specific screening, such as the James Supportive Care Screening, to triage patients to appropriate supportive care services. Palliative care is one of many services that these patients may need, and it should be utilized at any point of the disease trajectory rather than reserved for end-of-life care.

Objective:Memory complaints have been a concern of Gulf War (GW) veterans since their return from the war in 1991, and over time it has been reported that exposures to neurotoxicants during the war have been associated with memory decline from premorbid levels. However, many of the studies that have shown slight or no memory decrements only looked at one time point and have not followed participants to document trajectory of symptoms over time. Longitudinal design is an optimal way to document change in cognitive function over time and the Fort Devens cohort (FDC), the longest running cohort of GW veterans, is ideal for assessing such change. This prospectively designed non-treatment seeking cohort were assessed at multiple timepoints with neuropsychological assessments and surveys. Initial neuropsychological assessments from 1997 showed above average scores on tests of verbal memory (California Verbal Learning Test) and average nonverbal memory (Wechsler Memory Scale-R) performances. A follow-up study of neuropsychological testing was completed between 2019-2022. This study was designed to document change in cognitive status between the two time points.Participants and Methods:Participants (N=50) from the original 1991 cohort were again tested from 2019-2022. Neuropsychological tests included California Verbal Learning Test-Second edition (CVLT2) for verbal learning, and the visual reproduction subtest from the Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised (WMS-R) for nonverbal learning and memory. For both time points, the average scores of the participants were compared with age scaled scores for each neuropsychological test. Results:The mean age of our current participants was 58 years. 72% were men. Relative to standardized test norms at the first time point, the scores for total learning from trials 1 through 5 from the CVLT2 were in the above average range relative to age and gender-based norms. During the second time point, the participants average scores on the same scale had dropped to the average range, one full standard deviation below their prior performances. In addition, at the first time point, total learning from visual reproductions was in the average range and dropped to the low average range for the second time point. This value dropped by one-half a standard deviation. Conclusions:Results showed significant diminishment in verbal and visual memory relative to prior test performances. Whenever possible, documenting the trajectory of symptoms relative to where each participant started on neuropsychological functional outcomes is key to understanding the longitudinal impact of neurotoxicant and other war-related exposures in military veterans. Given this decline, further assessment of GW veterans’ cognitive trajectories is warranted.

Context Assessments of the duration of concussion recovery have primarily been limited to sport-related concussions and male contact sports. Furthermore, whereas durations of symptoms and return-to-activity (RTA) protocols encompass total recovery, the trajectory of each duration has not been examined separately. Objective To identify individual (eg, demographics, medical history), initial concussion injury (eg, symptoms), and external (eg, site) factors associated with symptom duration and RTA-protocol duration after concussion. Design Cohort study. Setting Three US military service academies. Patients or Other Participants A total of 10 604 cadets at participating US military service academies enrolled in the study and completed a baseline evaluation and up to 5 postinjury evaluations. A total of 726 cadets (451 men, 275 women) sustained concussions during the study period. Main Outcome Measure(s) Number of days from injury (1) until the participant became asymptomatic and (2) to complete the RTA protocol. Results Varsity athlete cadets took less time than nonvarsity cadets to become asymptomatic (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.75, 95% confidence interval = 1.38, 2.23). Cadets who reported less symptom severity on the Sport Concussion Assessment Tool, third edition (SCAT3), within 48 hours of concussion had 1.45 to 3.77 times shorter symptom-recovery durations than those with more symptom severity. Similar to symptom duration, varsity status was associated with a shorter RTA-protocol duration (HR = 1.74, 95% confidence interval = 1.34, 2.25), and less symptom severity on the SCAT3 was associated with a shorter RTA-protocol duration (HR range = 1.31 to 1.47). The academy that the cadet attended was associated with the RTA-protocol duration (P < .05). Conclusions The initial total number of symptoms reported and varsity athlete status were strongly associated with symptom and RTA-protocol durations. These findings suggested that external (varsity status and academy) and injury (symptom burden) factors influenced the time until RTA.

Introduction: Epicrania fugax (EF) is an epicranial headache syndrome characterized by short lasting headache paroxysms which spread in a typical linear/zigzag pattern. The definition of EF has evolved over time, and new phenotypes have been observed in various studies. Aim: We present eight cases diagnosed as EF according to the International Classification of Headaches Disorders, 3rd edition criteria and highlight certain novel characteristics which will help in the further categorization of this disorder. Methods: We prospectively studied eight cases of EF who presented to our headache clinic from January 2016 to September 2020. Demographic and detailed clinical data were collected and analyzed. Results: The mean age of onset of the cohort was 42 ± 10.47 years with a median duration of symptoms being 1 year. There were 5 male and 3 female patients. The mean visual analog scale score was 5.25 ± 1.83. Headache frequency had high intra and interindividual variability. Four patients had a typical spread of pain along the distribution of greater occipital, and supraorbital, nerves. Four patients had an atypical presentation with midline headache, transverse occipital, and bilateral simultaneous hemicranium involvement. Headache paroxysm was followed by a prolonged fixed pain in the same linear distribution in three patients. One patient had ipsilateral redness in the eye. All eight patients required medical intervention with amitriptyline or neuromodulators, five of whom reported a significant reduction in their headache symptoms. Conclusion: Our case series highlights a few interesting features which need further exploration with larger studies. Firstly, the atypical distribution of the pain trajectory forces us to dig deeper into the pathogenesis of the disorder. Secondly, our data also suggest a possibility of EF triggered “linear headaches.” EF is a relatively uncommon headache disorder that can be managed easily with neuromodulators but the lack of awareness of the condition often leads to delayed diagnosis.

In order to reduce the amplitude of the bench press, athletes use a specific technical element of the "arch", which involves significant bending of the back. The technical element "arch" allows to reduce the indicators of mechanical work, the amount of applied force, the trajectory of the vertical movement of the bar and the distance travelled by the bar. The problem of athletes using an extremely high bench press arch during the bench press is an important task of modern sports practice. The goal is to study of the problem of using an extremely high bench press arch and ways of objectifying the rules of powerlifting competitions. To solve the set goal, we used the following research methods: analogy, analysis, synthesis, abstraction, induction, extrapolation, generalization of practical experience, pedagogical methods (observation). In order to objectify the rules of the competition, we have suggested making a revision in the bench press section, which will make it impossible to perform the "zero press" due to the reducing of the extreme height of the "arch". The edition of the competition rules provides for the regulation of the elbow joint bending angle by determining the position of the lower surface of the elbow joints of each arm, which should be at or below the upper surface of the corresponding shoulder joints while holding the barbell on the chest or stomach. Our proposed way of objectifying competition rules in the bench press section makes it impossible to perform a bench press with a high arch, balances the opportunities of athletes to achieve a sports result by reducing the extreme height of the "bridge". To perform the bench press according to the new version of the rules, athletes who previously used extreme height "bridges" need to reduce the width of the hand grip on the barbell, or reduce the back bend during the bench press.

6 508 bulls of dual-purpose cattle at performance-test stations were weighed at intervals of 30 days from birth to 420 days. After all editing a total of 74 558 weight records were available. Live weight was evaluated by orthogonal Legendre Polynomial (LP) of degree 4 and by Linear Spline function (SP) with 5 knots. The fixed effects of test-day-year-station of weighing (TDS) and LP within station-year explain together 97% of variability. Variance components were estimated by REML (REMLF90 programme) taking into account heterogeneous variance during growth. The basic model included fixed effects: TDS, and fixed regression on age (LPF), and random regression for additive genetic (SPG) and permanent environmental of the animal (SPPE) effects. Variability of all components increases with age. During the 50–400 day period the heritability is 0.28 on average. Heritability increases with the age of the animal; it is the highest at the end of the period. Correlations for body weights between different ages of the animal are high.

In this paper, we present a motion editing algorithm for the human biped locomotion captured by a motion capturing device. Our algorithm adopts footprints to describe the space-time constraints which should be satisfied during biped locomotion. The footprints are also used as an interface to enable the user to control the space-time constraints directly. A real-time Inverse Kinematics (IK) solver is adapted to compute the configuration of the human body and motion displacement mapping is then constructed using hierarchical B-spline. In order to facilitate the IK solver, we propose a sampling-based scheme to generate root trajectory. Hermit interpolation is then employed to generate the whole root trajectory. This scheme provides a speedup to root trajectory generation. The performance of our algorithm is further enhanced by the real-time IK solver, which directly computes the displacement angles as solution.

This paper is an analysis of trajectors (i.e. located entities) in language about fixed durations of TIME. More specifically, trajectors in instances including the English prepositions in or on, or their Swedish equivalents i or på, are analyzed. On the structure of the inverse Moving Observer/Moving Time metaphors (Lakoff & Johnson 1999) instances such as these should be construed relative to a Moving Observer, and trajectors people that move relative to fixed durations of TIME (as reflected in e.g. when we come to launching the 4th edition in early 1990). My analysis, however, suggests that our understanding of TIME through SPACE is more nuanced than suggested by these metaphors. In this specific context, trajectors are not typically people in motion, but rather events or processes located in, or on, unit of time landmarks. My study emphasizes the need to test the systematicity of the mappings proposed by Conceptual Metaphor Theory.
