This article explores the nexus between Giuseppe Tartini's concertos for violin and orchestra, written for the Franciscan Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, and the devotion to this Saint's tongue, still preserved as a relic. Anthony's tongue, hagiographers write, was the instrument of a rhetoric that transcended verbal signification, able to move people of different languages and even animals. Soon, the tongue of Saint Anthony became a powerful symbol of universal language. In the eighteenth century, the Catholic Church, and especially the followers of Saint Anthony, revitalized their global mission to overcome cultural and linguistic barriers. Commissioning orchestral church music was part of this strategy. Like Anthony's preaching, Tartini's music was informed by the utopian goal to reach out to a pluralist community. His music and ideas attracted the attention of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Charles Burney, both engaged in contemporary debates on the quest for universality of music in a multicultural world. Newly discovered evidence sheds light on the liturgical context of Tartini's violin concertos, as well as on religious rituals of music making and listening that left long-lasting traces of sacrality in the secular rites of production and consumption of instrumental music.

Tartans, from very modest beginnings, have become a real growth industry, with huge commercial implications - over 100 new or unrecorded ones are added to the list each year. That list (already including 2700 entries) is the Register of All Publicly Known Tartans. Crucial to the success of the tartan industry is that each tartan be unique and correctly attributed. This article tells of the Register’s efforts to ensure that this is so, and the role effective indexing (still in the early stages of development) has to play.

This research aims to implement learning to read and write al-quran's tartili method in MAS Sinar Serdang Perbaungan as well as to improve student achievement in reading the Qur'an from those who are unable to read to be able to read well, correctly and fluently in tartil. From those who do not know the letters to know the letters of Tajweed and the Qur'anic punctuation properly. This program is carried out after midday prayers in congregation. To determine students' ability to read and write letters of the Qur'an, observations, interviews and documentation were carried out in the implementation, planning and evaluation of students in reading and writing the Qur'an in a tartili manner. In order to know the students' abilities in reading and writing, the teacher tests students with tests one by one. The research method used is the method of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. To check the validity of the data, it is carried out perseverance of observation, tringuation and discussion of colleagues so that the data is more accurate. As well as field testing in class until the final test by writing.The results of this research find out how many students are able and unable to read and write. And creating students become clerics and clerics to be useful in the community environment.

The researchers intends to find out how Al-Quran Education in the Yogyakarta AMM Tartil Team includes supporting and inhibiting factors as well as how the team overcomes the obstacles to Al-Quran Education in the AMM Tartil Team Yogyakarta. The learning patterns of adults and advanced readers of the Quran in this education are different from those of students of Quran who are younger than them at the beginning level or those studying in Islamic boarding schools. This qualitative case study research uses several instruments, observation, mandala interviews, and documentation. Observations were made by directly following the Syahadah One education process for the students of the AMM Yogyakarta tartil team. In-depth interviews were addressed to informants, namely the management of the Foundation, Ustaz, and students participating in the education who were the object of the research. For documentation, it is emphasized on the data of the Tartilil Qur'an curriculum text. All collected data were then analyzed in a cumulative manner with inductive-deductive thinking patterns. Advanced education to read the Koran does have complex problems in terms of time and age of the participants, although it must be commended for their intention and sincerity to be fluent in reading it.

If there is a single narrative that captures the modern understanding of transformative crossroads magic it is the spurious fable of the selling of Robert Johnson's soul. When, in the palaeoanthropology of 20th century rock and roll music, the biographers of the short-lived blues legend claimed that he had been down to the Dockery Plantation crossroads at midnight to sell his soul to the Devil in exchange for guitar skills, they were perhaps unwitting witnesses to the deep history of myth and ritual that has long been associated with the transformative space of the crossroads. They were not lacking in foresight, however, about the way in which such a claim would enhance their subject's credibility. The value of such a sulphurous reputation for a musician is not merely a recent phenomenon but also has historical precedents. A hundred years before Johnson (who lived 1911–1938), the guitarist and violinist Niccolo Paganini (1782–1840) was considered such a suspiciously devilish virtuoso that his audiences were reputed to cross themselves before his concerts in hope of protection from subtle demonic influence. One audience member even fled a concert after reporting seeing the Devil himself aiding Paganini's performance. Going a little further back, Giuseppe Tartini (1692–1770) explained of his best-known sonata, The Devil's Trill (1713), that he had ‘written down the piece after waking from a particularly vivid dream of the Devil playing a violin with ferocious virtuosity’, and claimed that it was ‘but a shadow of what he had witnessed in the dream, for he was unable to capture on the page the Devil's full intensity’. His long career was certainly not harmed by this youthful excursion into Hell.

1 . Mokant lietuvius rusų kalbos, svarbu ne tik lavinti jų įgūdžius taisyklingai tarti rusų kalbos garsus, bet ir mokyti juos taisyklingai rusiškai rašyti. 2. Mokant lietuvius rusų kalbos literatūrinės tarties, netikslu juos pratinti taisyklingai tarti tik atskirus garsus. Kadangi kiekvienas garsas užima tam tikrą vietą kalbos sistemoje, tai lavinimas taisyklingai tarti garsus privalo remtis rusų ir lietuvių kalbų fonetinės ir fonologinės sistemų sugretinimu . 3. Sugretinimo metodas reikalauja , kad besimokantis sąmoningai apvaldytų j am neįprastą artikuliaciją ir kartu sugebėtų atsiriboti nuo savo gimtosios kalbos garsų tarimo, įsisavindamas svetimos kalbos garsus. Ypač yra nelengva apvaldyti tuos svetimos kalbos garsus ir garsų junginius, kurie iš pirmo žvilgsnio atrodo panašūs į gimtosios kalbos garsus, o iš tikrųjų tas „panašumas" tėra tik tariamas. 4. Mokant lietuvius rusų kalbos balsių tarimo, reikalinga atkreipti dėmesį visų pirma į tokius momentus: a ) į bendrą artikuliacinių padargų neįtemptumą, b) į kokybinį rusų kalbos balsių pakitimą nekirčiuotoje pozicijoje ir į balsių pailgėjimo priklausomumą nuo jų padėties, e) į kokybinį balsių nevienodumą, į rusų kalbos kirčiuotų balsių tendenciją diftongizuotis, į fonetinės aplinkos įtaką balsių kokybei (visų pirma balsiui e). 5. This study aims to improve the ability of slow learner students in reading the Quran . This type of research is a single case or single-case research with the ABABA intervention model. The research subjects were student at Muhammadiyah Junior High School Kulonprogo Yogyakarta. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The data were collected using an assessment sheet instrument based on practical tests, observation sheets, and interview protocols. The assessment data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of scoring based on the results of the test or treatment given based on each stage. The enhancement of the subject's ability was carried out by the AIR (Auditory Intellectually Repetition) method which is has the banaficial category because in a short period it could give results even though it was not optimal. The AIR method itself is a learning model with assignments that emphasize understanding listening to the material with a practice that is carried out repeatedly to gain deep understanding. While the results of observations and interviews are described in a narrative. The results of the study concluded that there was an increase in the students' ability to read the Quran according to the observed aspects, namely the increase in the ability of the Makhorijul Huruf, Tawjid, and Tartil after attending the training. The ability of the subject's Makhorijul Huruf increased 66.6 % than before the intervention, they are from 30 to 50 as result. Tajwid ability increased 33.3 % from 30 to 40 as result, and Tartil ability increased by 14.28 % from 35 to 40 as resultr, and Tartib experienced an increase of 100 % from 25 to 50. These results indicate the increase in students' ability to read the Quran in the quite good category.

The morphologies of the three freshwater stentorid ciliates in Korea, Stentor coeruleus (Pallas, 1766); Stentor muelleri Ehrenberg, 1831, and Stentor tartari Murthy & Bai, 1974, were investigated based on live observations and protargol impregnation. The Korean population of S. tartari exhibits the following characteristics: body size 200–355 × 85–135 µm in vivo, 62–106 somatic kineties, 8–13 peristomial kineties, 110–180 adoral membranelles, mostly two macronuclear nodules and 5–18 micronuclei, reddish and colorless cortical granules and the presence of symbiotic algae. We identified S. tartari based on unique characteristics compared to close congeners. Korean populations of S. coeruleus and S. muelleri are congruent with previously described populations in most aspects of their morphologies. Here, for the first time, we report molecular gene sequence information for S. tartari. Small subunit (SSU) rRNA gene sequence-based phylogeny indicates that S. tartari, which has multiple macronuclei, forms a monophyletic group with other Stentor species having a single macronucleus. Our findings based on morphology and SSU rRNA gene sequence information corroborate the hypothesis that the elongated macronucleus evolved from the compact single or multi macronucleus state.

It will be argued that the empirically derived criteria and Weber’s (1978) sociological concepts of authority, power and status allow us to understand the tensions and mutually dependent relationship between the different types. In conclusion, it will be argued that, while this typology is not presented as a challenge to existing typologies, this article demonstrates the potential utility of these sociological concepts for understanding the practice and development of Buddhism in the West.

Through examining the surviving records of tartan manufacturers, William Wilson & Son of Bannockburn, this article looks at the production and use of tartan in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. While it does not deny the importance of the various meanings and interpretations attached to tartan since the mid-eighteenth century, this article contends that more practical reasons for tartan's popularity—primarily its functional and aesthetic qualities—merit greater attention. Along with evidence from contemporary newspapers and fashion manuals, this article focuses on evidence from the production and popular consumption of tartan at the turn of the nineteenth century, including its incorporation into fashionable dress and its use beyond the social elite. This article seeks to demonstrate the contemporary understanding of tartan as an attractive and useful commodity.

Abstract:It is notoriously difficult to design and attach suitable legal rights to intangible cultural heritage (ICH), due to its nature as an evolving, living heritage. This article investigates the effects of government intervention relating to Scottish tartan in order to trace the relationship between formal proprietary rights, commodification, and cultural branding. The article proceeds in three steps: from (1) the historical context of the Jacobite rebellion and the subsequent Victorian assignment of the tartan to clans; to (2) the formation and function of the subsequent self-regulating community tartan registers; and (3) the 2009 governmental intervention with the establishment of a governmental tartan register, subsuming the community groups’ role in self-regulating tartan. While past ICH protection efforts have focused primarily on developing countries, the example of tartan raises wider concerns about the social and economic impact of the subtle erosion or, conversely, the ossification of living heritages. Finally, some alternatives are considered within the IP regime, such as sui generis protection, while highlighting the challenges of reconciling the domestic regulation of diverse ICH.

Purpose: To characterize, for the first time, the mechanical properties of treadmill surfaces along with a practical interpretation of their influence on physiological and perceived demands during endurance running compared with other widely used surfaces such as asphalt and tartan tracks. Methods: Ten experienced male endurance runners performed a 40-minute running bout at a preferred constant speed on 3 different surfaces (after a randomized, counterbalanced order with a 7-d interval between trials): asphalt, tartan, or treadmill. Shock absorption, vertical deformation, and energy restitution were measured for the 3 surfaces. Intensity (based on heart rate data) and rating of perceived exertion were monitored. Results: The values of shock absorption averaged 0.0% (asphalt), 37.4% (tartan), and 71.3% (treadmill), while those of vertical deformation and energy restitution averaged 0.3, 2.2, and 6.5 mm and 90.8%, 62.6%, and 37.0%, respectively. Running intensity (as determined by heart rate data) was higher overall on the treadmill than tartan but not asphalt running. Except for the first 10 minutes, all mean rating of perceived exertion values were significantly higher in asphalt and treadmill than in tartan. No significant differences were identified between treadmill and asphalt. Conclusions: The considerably higher shock absorption of the treadmill than the tartan surface leads to a reduction in the amount of energy returned to the athlete, which in turn increases physiological stress and rating of perceived exertion during endurance running.

Heideggeriui egzistencija – taip pat su laiku susijęs projektas. Savo būties myriop atpažinimas leidžia kaskart plėsti šį projektą. Straipsnio autorius teigia, kad humanizmas neatsiejamas nuo poetinių siekių. Žmogaus būtis atpažįstama poetine tartimi, o jos kūrimas analogiškas poetinei kūrybai. Ši horizontali transcendencija nepašalina Dievo klausimo iš žmogaus gyvenimo.

Az épülethomlokzatokon történő tűzterjedés jellege és mértéke számos tényezőtől függ, nem csupán a homlokzati felületképzés anyagától. A cikk ismerteti a korszerű nyílászárók típusait és beépítésük lehetőségeit, valamint azok hatását a homlokzati tűzterjedésre. Konkrét példákat hoz a bekövetkezett tűzesetek tapasztalatai alapján.
