Texto completo da fonteRelationship marketing is widely discussed in the fields of industry goods and services. Also, the theme of marketing to children owns an important part within the existing literature in the marketing field. Nevertheless, there is a lack of literature for relationship marketing in consumer markets towards children. But especially in consumer markets there are certain products, which accompany consumer during their whole life. Brand preferences and loyalty towards certain products are not unusual among consumer and often evolve in early ages. Hence, it seems to be reasonable that companies try to attract children within their marketing activities in order to acquire and keep these children as customer. Since candies and chocolate are everyday products, which are consumed irrespective of age, especially the sweets industry presented an interesting sample for our research.
The purpose of this dissertation was to investigate in which way companies in the sweets industry use relationship marketing to children or perhaps do not use a certain approach at all. Our dissertation was based upon a qualitative method. We conducted semi-structured interviews with sweets companies and marketing agencies, which worked in the field of advertisements for sweets.
When companies want to reach children as consumer it is necessary to approach not only the child itself but also its influence groups. Moreover, companies need to consider that marketing towards children requires certain children-friendly tools and approaches. Amongst others present incentives an often used way to establish customer loyalty. Since children start to be early responsive to marketing activities, companies can benefit when they are approaching children as soon as they start to participate (actively or passively) in the buying process. Nevertheless, due to the low-involvement characteristics of sweets products the degree of binding seems to be lower than for products that require high investments. Therefore, the focus of sweets companies remain the establishment of awareness and attraction amongst children. However, since the discussions are increasing if marketing to children is ethical, the focus of companies seem to be shifting more and more away from the target group children, in order to avoid confrontation with the public discussion. This leaves doubt about the future perspectives of our research field.

Parkinsonism is a neurological disorder neurons that normally produce the hormone called dopamine deteriorate, causing progressive loss of movement control (e.g. bradykinesia, muscle rigidity, tremor at rest, and impaired postural reflexes). A syndrome with similar symptoms is Scans Without Evidence of Dopaminergic Deficits (SWEDDs), in which the patients not present evidence of dopaminergic deficits. The causes of primary parkinsonism, or Parkinson’s disease (PD), as well as SWEDDs, are not completely known. Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) have provided substantial contribution to the understanding of the architecture of complex diseases, bringing consistent and important contributions to PD. GWASs have been performed in the past with PD data with results that strongly influenced later developments. In this work, a study of genetic factors that contributes to the set of tools of association analysis for a better understanding of occurency of PD and SWEDDs. To that end, the set of tools of association analysis is involved in a study case for the PLINK method to execute GWASs with the objective of identifying SNPs which are associated to DP and SweDDs. To determine the level of significance of our results, only real data provided by Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) was used. PPMI is an international consortium created to indetify biomarkers of DP progression, to better comprehend the etiology of this disease and to provide key tools to increase the probability of success in the development of new therapeutic trials for PD. The association analysis, done with genotype data from three groups of individuals (healthy, affected by PD and affected by SWEDDs), SNPS that have shown strong connection to PD and SWEDDs were recovered, some of them are already linked in the scientific literature to PD or other degenerative diseases. But, we also have found about 60 SNPs that are not reported in the literature, which show evidence to be strongly related to the propensity to PD or SWEDDs. These results are promising targets for future genomic studies and may contribute to the understanding of the occurrence of PD and SWEDDs. Interestingly, although SWEDDs is a disorder clinically linked to PD by a series of common symptoms, the top ranked SNPs recovered from the PD dataset were not part of the SWEDDs dataset and conversely, that suggests that those two sets of markers could be more carefully explored in the genomic studies as common SNPs of interest for the two diseases.

Texto completo da fonteThe purpose of the thesis is to study Swedes who live in Australia about their thoughts concerning differences between the cultures and their communication styles in the following four areas; Power Distance, Masculinity verses Femininity, Affective verses Neutral, and Time.
I have chosen a qualitative approach for this study. My research is based on 10 telephone interviews; conducted with Swedes who work for various companies in Australia.
My theoretical chapter includes theories in the field of communication science and culture. Four scientists’ theories are explained; William B. Gudykunst's Anxiety /Uncertainty Management theory, Edward Hall’s High-and Low-context theory, Geert Hofstede’s national culture theory, and Fons Trompenaars’ culture business theory.
My research concludes that there are some main differences between the Swedish and Australian culture and between Swedes’ and Australians’ communication style. My research shows that Sweden is a low-power distance, feminine and neutral culture. While Australia is a higher power-distance, masculine and more affective culture, compared to Sweden. My study also confirmed that the time aspect is not as flexible communicated in Sweden as it is in Australia. All these culture differences are reflected in the cultures’ communication style. For example, Swedes are characterized by a team-oriented, open and equal communication style, whereas Australians use a more hierarchical, assertive and unilateral communication style. While group discussions, personal responsibility, and a high flow of information are common in Sweden, Australia is more characterized by delegation and protectiveness of territories, authority, and information flow.

Texto completo da fonteEstablishing Swedish corporations in different parts of the world means that companies will face other corporate cultures, different or partly different, from their own. Cultures in USA seem quite similar to the Swedish culture, but there are most certainly differences, even if they exist under the surface. Cultural differences can cause further problems than those that normally exist in the initial phase of an establishment.
The question we wanted to bring an answer to in this project was: Which cultural related differences might cause problems for a Swedish company, establishing in the USA, from an organizational point of view?
The purpose with this report is to find out which cultural differences there are between the Swedish management and the American. To se possible differences we first studied the two cultures one by one.
We interviewed six companies that are established in USA. They all had Swedish owners, who also are managers in the companies. Together with extensive empirical studies and theories on management, as well as on national differences between cultures, we came to a conclusion:
If the Swedish manager is aware of the existence of cultural differences, and therefore is adjustable and observant to any differences, there should not be any problems neither to establish nor to lead a company in USA.
