In 1906, an all-Ukrainian national pilgrimage set off from Lviv to the Holy Land, in which more than 500 people took part. This was the first official pilgrimage from Ukraine after the glorious Danylo the Pilgrim. It became possible thanks to Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyi. The details of this pilgrimage are described in detail in a commemorative book entitled «How Russ followed in the footsteps of Danylo», published in 1907 by the Publishing House of the Basilian Fathers in Zhovkva. However, this book does not mention anything about one of the grandiose projects of Metropolitan Andrey in the Middle East, which consisted in the creation of a Studite Monastery and a Pilgrim Center for pilgrims from Ukraine in Bethlehem. Negotiations on this matter with the Melchite Patriarch Cyril VIII were initiated by Metropolitan Andrey. The core of the project was of a Uniate character, since in the Metropolitan’s plans the Monastery with a Pilgrimage Center was to become a place of mutual knowledge and rapprochement between Orthodox and Catholics. For the realization of this aim, Metropolitan Andrey had allocated very respectable funds, and also began to train appropriate personnel from the Studite monks. But, unfortunately, due to various circumstances, mainly because of the outbreak of the First World War, this project was never implemented. In the Central State Historical Archive of Lviv there are many documents that shed light on the various stages of the implementation of the project for the construction of the Studite monastery and pilgrimage center for the Ukrainians in Bethlehem. This article presents the entire story of the planned but unfinished project of Metropolitan Andrey. Archival documents and their translations are published for the first time. This study studies the topics of the publications of the magazines «Yasna Put» (1935―1939s) and «Prominchyk Sontsia Liubovy» (1936―1937s). Those were issued by the monks of the Univ Holy Dormition Lavra of the Studite Rite. The religious press is one of the factors of social progress, specifically the development of spiritual and moral values. For the Ukrainian nation, it is also a significant means of social consolidation. A special place in the religious periodicals of the interwar period was occupied by the print media of monk orders and congregations. This study aims to determine the role of the Univ monks’ periodicals as a type of mission in preaching the Gospel and the spiritual renewal of the Ukrainian society. Analysis of the publications shows that «Yasna Put» helped the monks to understand their calling, to delve into it, to take the difficult path to the perfection of cognition of the God and approach to Him, as well as to spread the faith and preach the Gospel. The theological discourse of the Studite Rite and the problems of the history of the Ukrainian monasticism, the revival of the monasticism traditions based on the principles of the Early Church Fathers are present in the publications’ topics. At the same time, through «Prominchyk Sontsia Liubovy», the monks brought the word of God to the laity Christians, promoted among the youth «moral-religious education» and family values. Based on these findings, we conclude that the monks of the Univ Holy Dormition Lavra of the Studite Rite were open to dialogue, and their periodicals were the means of communication, dissemination of Christian values and the principles of the Early Church, as well as promoting the idea of ecumenism. The Studite Brethren are always the benchmark of living faith and an example of passing on the latter to neighbours in the Christian ethos. The increase or decrease in caring fatherhood in the 1990s was studied using data from two Dutch longitudinal studies with 256 respondents in total, ranging from noncaring fathers to very caring fathers. The authors first investigated the degree of instability of the fathers' caring arrangements. Then they looked at the factors relating to an increase or decrease in the care given by individual fathers. Using three blocks of variables, an attempt was made to explain the amount of instability in the care and the changes seen between the times t1 (1991) and t2 (1997). Their three blocks of variables represented the father's social and cultural context at t1, the father's value orientation at t1, and the father's family of origin, respectively. It was concluded that for an increase in caring fatherhood in the 1990s, the father's context was far more important than was his value orientation. Some aspects of a father's family of origin are also important: a good relationship with his own father is positively associated with the continuation of, or increase in, caring fatherhood.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between family health, family health, and parenting attitudes of fathers with early childhood children. Methods As for the research method, data were collected using the father's original family health, family health, and parenting attitude test tools, and after conducting a preliminary survey of 10 fathers, the main survey was conducted. A questionnaire was distributed to fathers of kindergarten students in K city, Gyeonggi-do, and a total of 244 fathers were studied, excluding 28 unfaithful out of 272 collected questionnaires. For the analysis method, descriptive statistical analysis and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS 26. Results As a result of the study, the father’s family of origin health, the family health, then parenting attitudes of Fathers were found. This can be interpreted to mean that the father perceives the current family relationship positively and perceives it as a positive experience with the family of origin. On the other hand, the parenting attitude is relatively low, suggesting the need to supplement the child rearing attitude. As a result of examining the relationship between father's family health, family health, and parenting attitude, each factor showed a positive correlation. The relationship between sub-factors generally showed a positive correlation, but the controlling attitude showed a negative correlation. This can be interpreted that fathers with high control attitude scores have low family health and family health scores. Conclusions It was found that the parenting attitude of fathers with young children has an important relationship between the health of the family of origin and the health of the family. This suggests that it is necessary to expand fathers' participation in educational institutions for active participation of fathers and the formation of desirable parenting attitudes. Finally, the results of this study are meaningful as basic data for data development for fathers.

Based on the peer-reviewed scientific monograph by I.O. Shev- chenko, the article presents an analytical review of the social practices of fa - therhood in modern Russian society, the phenomenon of lonely fatherhood that is least studied in the sociological community, as well as the issue of divorced fathers and stepfathers. Against the background of many years of sociological research, among the most important issues in the monograph the following are highlighted: Russians’ ideas about fathers and fatherhood; social practices of fatherhood; aisespaternity in families of various structural types. The book shows the evolution of the meanings of paternity as claimed by men of different ages, married and divorced. It defines the anthropological and biological, personal, socio-economic, spiritual, gender meanings of fatherhood and presents the models of paternity: an impersonal father, an authoritarian father, a kind father. The author of the monograph raises an issue of the importance of the father in the life of the child and also manages through analysis of 830 essays written by schoolchildren to build a “live” dialogue between fathers and children. More - over based on 47 in-depth interviews the topic of fathers and children in difficult situations of family breakdown is raised. An image of the substitute father – stepfather is considered, the types of their behavior in relation to the adopted child are highlighted: active, neutral, and passive. The topic of lonely fatherhood, stereotypes of modern society in relation to single fathers is touched upon. Final - ly, among the original plots of the monograph, one can note: the creation of the father’s image in cinema and the analysis of the network communities of fathers. The author of the article concludes that the phenomenon of paternity is multifaceted and contradictory in modern Russian society and that there is the need for its further study in the direction proposed in the reviewed scientific monograph.

The idea of God’s fatherhood seems very obvious in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus presents God as the Father who wants all what is good for all His children and invites all His children for a deep, spontaneous and intimate relationship with Him. The idea of God’s fatherhood is present especially in the prayer which Jesus taught His disciples. The “Our Father” is a Christian prayer but it has Jewish roots. Jesus was a Hebrew and prayed according to Jewish faith. The structure of “Our Father” is as follows: invocation followed by seven requests. The contents of the prayer reveal many references to Jewish prayers, known already at the time of Jesus (Abinu malkenu, Kaddish, Shemoneh Esreh). The similarities between “Our Father” and various prayers of the Jews do not exclude uniqueness of the prayer which Jesus taught His disciples. The idea of God’s fatherhood is present also in other parts of the Sermon on the mountain: the blessings of the peacemakers (Mt 5,9), the role of the disciples (Mt 5,13-16), love for enemies (Mt 5,43-45); the call to follow Christ (Mt 5,48); the Father who sees in secret (Mt 6,1-6.1618); Father’s forgiveness (Mt 6,14-15); Father’s care (Mt 6,25-34); Father’s goodness (Mt 7,7-11) and God’s fatherly will (Mt 7,21). All these passages, just like the prayer “Our Father”, underline the importance of filial trust in God as the Father.

Although sports fandom is one of the broadest and most significant social phenomena in modern life, few studies have examined the sources of children’s sports fandom. The reason may be related to the presumption that the main source of a child’s fandom is his or her father. Indeed, literature has repeatedly stressed the role of the family, and specifically the father, in shaping children’s identification with sports teams, alongside other social and psychological factors. The current study examines the significance of the untypical cases in which a son does not follow his father’s path and chooses to support a different soccer team. As uncommon cases frequently highlight what is commonly taken for granted, the current study explores the deep meanings of a disruption in fandom legacy that fathers typically take for granted. Through in-depth interviews with fathers whose children support a soccer team other than their own, the current study identifies that such fandom choices of sons, impact fathers on four levels, namely family legacy, team heritage, masculinity, and religious identification. Intergenerational fandom conflicts between father and son highlight the powerful implications of fans’ connections to their respective teams, and the continuing role of gender-based expectations in the world of sports.

This study aimed to investigate the perception of the adolescent father regarding his interaction with the health services, school and community. It is an extract from the multicentric study turned Social Support Networks for Fatherhood in Adolescence, and has a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive approach. It was undertaken with 14 adolescent fathers in a university hospital. The semi-structured interviews were held six months after the birth of the child, between 2009 and 2010. Discursive textual analysis and the theoretical framework of Urie Bronfenbrenner were used for the construction of three categories: The adolescent father's perception regarding his interaction with the school; with the health services; and with the community. The adolescent fathers were shown to be receptive to formal study, and present and participative in the health services and community; the possible difficulties of interaction between the adolescent fathers and the environments studied seem to result from the lack of organization and appropriate preparation for embracing them.

Zoshchenko has done a lot of analytical work, having studied many biographies of historical figures of the past. In other people’s biographies, the writer tried to find psychological complexes similar to his own. In the cycle “Stories about Lenin”, the title character appears as the embodiment of the “I am the ideal” Zoshchenko. Lenin easily coping with the phobias from which the writer suffered throughout his life. The leader has been turned into a mirror double of the author. To achieve this kind of mirroring, the writer corrects some facts from Lenin’s biography – outwardly almost imperceptibly, but in fact very significantly. Zoshchenko interprets Lenin’s revolutionary activity in a Freudian way – as a revolt against his father’s world. At the same time, Lenin in the Zoshchenko cycle appears as the antipode of the oedipal fathers. He goes from rebelling against the father’s world to the functional replacement of the father. After the victory of the revolution, Lenin, as shown in the story “About how Lenin was given a fish”, becomes a symbolic Father to all the children of the country.

Objectives The purposes of this study the benefits and conflicts of fathers' work-family compatibility on subjective happiness and parenting stress were identified, and the mediating effect of parenting stress was verified in these relationships. Methods To this end, data from the 13th year of the Korean Children's Panel of the Child Care Policy Research Institute were used, and 1,170 working fathers who participated in the survey were studied. SPSS 23.0 was used for data analysis, and a three-stage multiple regression analysis by Baron & Kenny (1986) was conducted to verify the mediating effect of parenting stress. Results The results of this study are as follows. First, it was found that there was a significant relationship between the father's work-family balance, parenting stress, and subjective happiness. The higher the work-family compatibility advantage, the lower the parenting stress and the higher the work-family compatibility conflict, the higher the parenting stress and the lower the subjective happiness. Second, it was found that parenting stress plays a partial mediating role as a result of examining the mediating effect of parenting stress in the effect of the father's work-family balance advantage on subjective happiness. Third, as a result of examining the mediating effect of parenting stress in the effect of the father's work-family balance conflict on subjective happiness, it was found that parenting stress plays a partial mediating role. Conclusions The results of this study verified that the benefits and conflicts perceived by fathers while doing work-family compatibility affect subjective happiness, and found that parenting stress also plays a role as a mediator in subjective happiness. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously operate programs such as psychological support and father education to reduce conflicts and parenting stress caused by fathers' work-family balance, and to change social members' perceptions along with policy promotion.

Abstract Objectives Even though 90% of the prison population is male, fatherhood among prisoners is an overlooked topic. Previous studies suggest that experienced severity of detention is different between fathers and non-fathers in prison because there is a unique deprivation strain related to fatherhood. There are criminological arguments and arguments in the legal context why we need more knowledge on the experience of detention by incarcerated fathers. Methods We studied longitudinal data of 785 males in pre-trial detention in the Netherlands from the nationwide Prison Project study population: 329 fathers were compared with 456 non-fathers for experienced severity, adjustment patterns (i.e. mental distress and misconduct), and deprivations strains. Results We found differences between fathers and non-fathers, both in adjustment and deprivation strains. Fathers reported less adjustment problems and different deprivation strains than non-fathers. Missing children during pre-trial detention was associated with depressive behavior (β = 0.158, p < 0.005) and anxiety among fathers (β = 0.128, p < 0.05). Conclusions Our results underline the importance of designing interventions for fathers in prison and educating sentencers about this topic. Proportional sentencing of fathers in the criminal justice system could only be validated as long as sufficient attention will be paid to their unique deprivation strain, which is, missing their children. During pre-trial detention, care for the child-father relation may not only lead to father’s emotional wellbeing during pre-trial detention, but may also lead to strengthened family bonds and children’s wellbeing on the long term.

Utilizing a Hong Kong Chinese sample, this study examined how fathers’ negative work-to-family spillover was associated with their behaviors in monitoring their children’s daily doings. In total, 125 fathers with a focal child at fifth or sixth grade were invited to complete a survey. Results revealed that work spillover was negatively associated with child self-disclosure, father solicitation, and father listening and observing children, and the associations for child self-disclosure and father solicitation were mediated by father–child relations. A marginally significant positive association between work spillover and getting information from spouse was also found. The results suggest that work stress poses difficulty to fathers in directly monitoring their children and pushes them to rely on mothers as the source of knowledge.

In light of a growing number of trauma narratives about child death authored from a paternal perspective within the scope of contemporary French literature, this article explores the récits de deuil of four lesser-studied orphaned fathers: Alain Thiesse's Elle s'appelait Emma (2014), Philippe Delaroche's La Gloire d'Inès (2016), Michel Rostain's Le Fils (2011), and Bernard Chambaz's À tombeau ouvert (2016). This article considers the insight these texts provide into a father's experience of surviving his child and what this means for his altered identity, for his new role in life, and for the ways in which he turns to literature to voice grief. As we reflect on this changed paternal identity as articulated in these examples, we focus on each author's objective(s) in giving sorrow words as well as the choice of literary modalities of these works. A common thread running throughout these varied examples is the topos of voice: an angry scream and a cry for justice, a belated address, and imagined conversations which traverse the present and the afterlife. We discuss the discursive strategies in these grief narratives and three separate aspects of narrative construction with which they engage. First, we consider the father's cry and the strategies of citation in the témoignage Elle s'appelait Emma. Second, we survey the implications of life writing and the ethical imperative with which they coincide in a father's belated address to his deceased daughter in La Gloire d'Inès. Finally, we investigate how modes of fiction restructure and reconceptualize father-son transmission and filiation in Le Fils and À tombeau ouvert. For mothers and fathers alike, the récit de deuil confronts the paradoxical bind of mourning testimony. The crisis of meaning that losing a child sets in motion impels these fathers to make sense of the unthinkable in the process of writing.

The article provides a literature review of contemporary foreign studies on the topic of paternity. The mental health of children and adults is closely connected with the parent figures. Historically, the father’s figure stood out in the work of psychologists, thus it was practically not studied by them. Modern studies not only confirm the equal importance of the maternal and paternal figures, but also highlights the specific influence of fathers. Direct influence extends to cognitive development, socio-emotional competence, as well as physical similarity. The indirect influence of fathers (through their relationships with mothers) on psychological well-being of the child, child's behavior and child-parent relationships in general has also been noted by scholars. The role of the father positively affects the psychological health of men and their well-being in general. The advancement of the phenomenon of “new fatherhood” is a global trend and it contributes not only to improving the mental health of the population, but also to a more comprehensive study of paternal problems.

Fathers’ and mothers’ distancing strategies towards preschoolers were studied in 30-month-old ( N = 13) and 42-month-old ( N = 15) parent-children dyads, using Sigel’s scheme. This coding scheme concerns either direct verbal requests (or denominations), or indirect demands about presented objects. Afree play situation included objects that allowed several activities, functional or not (doll, little cars, etc). The aim was twofold. First, distancing was linked to the child’s age and to the sex of parent with the assumption that fathers would be more challenging. Second, children’s symbolic activity was linked to parental distancing strategies at each age. Results showed that there was a significant effect of children’s age on the distancing measures as well as on children’s symbolic activity. The hypothesis of a more challenging father was not supported. The child’s symbolic activity was better predicted by mother’s distancing than by father’s. Such results indicate a need to consider more complex relationships between paternal interaction and children’s outcomes and to take into account extra-familial contributions.

Using nationally representative data on nonresident fathers, this study examines father–child contact and child support payments in Lithuania. We focus on previously married and cohabiting fathers whose parenting rights and obligations are organized differently by Lithuanian legislation. Our findings demonstrate that previously cohabiting fathers’ involvement in child-rearing is more significantly associated with levels of individual income resources rather than family formation type. We argue that legal uncertainties linked to nonmarital fatherhood reinforce the inequalities of men’s paternal rights and place previously cohabiting fathers, particularly with low socioeconomic resources, in disadvantaged positions. Moreover, we argue based on international evidence that universal social policies to support fathers’ social citizenship rights before separation and across household or family types, including greater individualization of Lithuania’s generous parental leave provisions, would encourage father–child contact for low socioeconomic fathers following cohabitation dissolution and reduce traditional male-breadwinning barriers to father–child contact.

Who are the father figures or cultural role models for paternal involvement in France today? In this article, we examine changes in the cultural models of father involvement or father figures from a framework of family sociology and in light of the move from male breadwinner models to dual earner families. First, we note the persistence of a neopatriarchal father figure in some specific groups of society, in particular large families who practice their religion actively. However, this father figure is declining under the pressures of mass unemployment, a rise in female employment activity, and an increase in marital separations. At the same time, sociologists highlight the increase in preoccupation with the concept of failing fathers. There is normative alarm about failing fatherhood among early childhood professionals interviewed for this study. Alternatively, we see the emergence of a new range of father involvement figures: especially among the intellectual middle classes and among some immigrants, where tasks are shared equally and with little gender differentiation within the home; one where fathers shake up or even overturn gender roles, whether in a gay or heterosexual couples, one where stepfathers are committed fully to their educational role. Our study shows that these three phenomena of neopatriarchal fathers, failing fathers, and new fathers exist side by side and reflect three eras of male/female relationships in French public policies: familialism, feminism, and parentalism.

How do parental leave rights and interacting societal structures influence immigrant fathers’ compliance with the ‘caring father’ model—typifying Nordic welfare states? Nordic parental leave schemes differ; this study investigated the impact of the Norwegian policy. Strong, stratifying effects related to access, particularly unfavourable for non-Western immigrant fathers, were demonstrated. These effects stemmed not only from the scheme being based on work performance criteria, but also from fathers’ rights being conditioned on mothers’ economic activity. Moreover, the observed gap between eligible immigrant and native-born fathers in the take-up of the father quota (the part of leave earmarked for fathers) was explored further. The gap was associated with weaker individual resources; however, ethnic labour market segregation played a significant role. The gap narrowed with the increased duration of stay of these fathers, suggesting that adaptation processes also are involved. The analysis is based on high-quality register data of all partnered men who became fathers in Norway in 2011, following them until their child was three years old in 2014.

A man’s transition into the role of a father is a rewarding yet challenging experience for many men. This study explores how men navigate contradictory roles of fatherhood and the impact this has on their identities. Fifteen first-time fathers were interviewed, and their responses were analysed using thematic and discourse analysis tools. Findings revealed that fathers both adhered to and challenge masculine ideals of fatherhood. Men described both traditional and non-traditional roles in their becoming a father, being a father, and navigating fatherhood and manhood. The continuation and contestation of masculine discourses in the experiences of fatherhood was found to influence their involvement with raising children and employment, as well as their relationships. Overall, these findings highlight the uncertainty that shapes modern fathers’ roles and demonstrates how fathers move between both traditional and new fatherhood roles.

Over the last few decades, perceptions of fatherhood have changed significantly and expectations regarding fathers’ involvement in childcare have risen. Parenting is undoubtedly the source of many positive experiences, however, it can also be a stressful challenge. Thus, the way in which fathers deal with everyday life stress can significantly affect their parental attitudes. There is significant evidence that a child’s predisposition can modify parental attitudes and therefore relate to stress coping strategies. In the current study we tested a model of the reciprocal relationships between a father’s coping strategies, his parental attitudes, and his child’s individual traits (temperament and gender). The first model assumes that the father’s stress coping strategies and the child’s individual traits determine parental attitudes independently; the second model, assumes that parental attitudes will be influenced by coping strategies and that individual traits of the child will modify this relationship. A total of 176 Polish fathers ( Mfather’s age = 35.07, SD = 5.71) of only children of preschool age ( Mchildren’s age = 5.6, SD = .21; 88 girls, 88 boys) participated in the study. The following research tools were used: the Parental Attitudes Scale, to measure fathers’ attitudes towards their children; the Brief COPE, to evaluate fathers’ coping strategies; the EAS Temperament Questionnaire – Parental Ratings, to assess children’s temperaments. The results indicate that fathers had the highest scores for Inconsequent and Demanding parental attitudes and the lowest for Overprotective and Autonomy attitudes. Moreover, their attitudes towards daughters and sons were consistent, except for Autonomy. Furthermore, mediation analyses show that the child’s temperamental traits do not significantly modify the relation between a father’s coping strategies and parental attitudes. However, the results indicate that a father’s coping strategies and his child’s temperament affect the father’s parental attitudes independently. Differences depending on the child’s gender were also found.

AbstractResearch over the past twenty years has found that fathers play an important role in their children’s development. However, the literature on fatherhood is still limited, particularly in the Arab world. This paper uses data from a mixed-method pilot study of sixty-one Arabs residing in the United Arab Emirates to examine the nature and impact of father involvement in the Arab region. The findings indicate that Arab fathers score highly on the good provider role, but low on responsible paternal engagement, which includes father involvement in the child’s education and related activities. We also find that the more positively involved a father has been in his child’s life, the higher the child’s self-esteem tends to be. In addition, the results show that experiences of father involvement vary according to the gender of the child, socioeconomic status, and nationality. These findings have important implications for understanding the nature of Arab father involvement and serve as a prelude to a larger study of father involvement across the Arab region.

Shakespeare and his works are widely analyzed and studied, however, you can always find something to discuss about or study, since Shakespeare’s works are always challenging and attractive. This time my focus is on the father figures that appear in some of his greatest works, like King Hamlet and Polonius in Hamlet, Barbantio in Othello, Lord Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, King Lear and Gloucester in King Lear, Leonato in Much Ado About Nothing, Shylock in The Merchant of Venice, etc. Actually, this paper aims to give an insight and compare the major characters as fathers. It covers an analysis of father-son relationship and the father-daughter relationship, fathers’ attitude towards their children, the influence they have in the life of their children, their love and authority, expectations, their image in the eyes of their children and so on. Each and every one of these characters has a specific relationship with their child; they are all authoritative, some more and some less, they are proud and they influence their children’s lives by accepting their decisions or not, by requesting very important and delicate tasks from them, by deciding themselves for their children, etc. Focusing on the issue of authority, power and ownership, the article aims at showing how stereotypical social and gender roles resonate with various political and social contexts of power. However, the paper will also analyze the dreams, duty, as well as defiance children have, show or express towards their fathers. A special importance in this paper is given to the relationships between fathers and daughters, having in mind the social position women had at that time, the role they had in their families etc. In these relationships, it is clearly that there is more likely to find a tyrannical possessiveness in excess of normal parental affection in the father's behaviour—or, as the case may be, a capriciousness, coldness, or disloyalty unwarranted by the daughter's exemplary conduct, which in fact results in the creation or not of a father figure in these plays. Namely, it is clear that Shakespeare depicted the struggle and entanglement of a father character who realizes the lonely emptiness he has to face after fulfilling the happiness of his child. As I mentioned, no matter the uniqueness of these relationships that are presented between parents and children, we can find some similarities as well, as many of the plays depict the same situations but with similar circumstances. Consequently, I hope that this paper will be just a small contribution in the field of literature and that future scholars will find it useful in their further studies and analysis of Shakespeare’s works, which is really a never-ending ‘struggle.’

An adopted child often has his lineage transferred to his adoptive father. A child's nasab (lineage) in Islam is very important, nasab is the goal of Islamic law, especially Hifzu Nasab, so it must be protected by the family. An adopted child's lineage is only passed on to his biological father, even if the child is adopted from childhood, he still cannot transfer his lineage from his biological father to his adoptive father, however, the prohibition on transferring his lineage to his adoptive father is also explained in Islamic law. A child's lineage that is not suitable will bring disaster to that child, as happened in Jabung Village, East Lampung. The type of research carried out by researchers is field research using qualitative methods. Meanwhile, the data collection techniques used include observation, interviews and notes. Regarding the analysis technique used, namely using inductive thinking, inductive is a way of thinking that arises from specific data and empirical facts in the field which are synthesized, processed, studied, then the meaning is drawn in the form of general conclusions. This research uses an approach with Islamic legal theory, especially those related to lineage and adoption. From this research, it can be concluded that in the community's understanding of changes in children's lineages carried out by adoptive fathers in Jabung village, East Lampung, some people make their foster children their bloodlines. Factors that influence social ignorance are education and tradition. Islamic law prohibits adoption by affixing the adoptive father's name to the adopted child.

This study examined associations between Mexican-origin parents’ cultural values in relation to supportive and undermining coparenting behavior. Data were collected from 80 sets of parents, 160 parents total, with a preschool-age child ( M = 63.60 months old; 39 boys, 41 girls) who were of Mexican origin (22% of mothers and 28% of fathers born in Mexico). Mothers and fathers independently completed questionnaires assessing their cultural values of (a) familismo (i.e., loyalty to family), (b) machismo (i.e., adherence to masculine/feminine gender roles), (c) respeto (i.e., respect for self and others), and (d) simpatía (i.e., maintenance of interpersonal harmony). Mother–father–child triads were observed during a structured play session from which supportive and undermining coparenting behavior was coded. Mothers and fathers who held stronger familism beliefs were characterized by more supportive coparenting behavior. Mothers and fathers who held stronger simpatía beliefs were characterized by less undermining coparenting behavior. Fathers who held stronger respeto beliefs showed more supportive coparenting behavior, whereas mothers who held stronger machismo beliefs were characterized by more undermining coparenting behavior. Mother–father dyads with higher agreement on familism displayed more supportive coparenting behavior, and mothers and fathers who had higher agreement on simpatía beliefs engaged in less undermining coparenting. Results suggest that the cultural values held by both mothers and fathers of Mexican origin are significantly associated with the quality of their coparenting relationship.

This study examined a cumulative model of vulnerability and protective factors at the individual level (children’s attachment relationships with father and children’s sense of coherence) and at the family level as manifested by fathers’ coping resources (fathers’ sense of coherence, fathers’ active and avoidant coping strategies) in helping to explain differences in socioemotional and behavioral adjustment among children at the age 8 to 12 years with learning disabilities (LD) and or with typical development. The sample included 205 father-child dyads: 107 fathers and their children having LD and 98 fathers and their children with typical development, from the same public elementary schools. Preliminary analyses indicated significant group differences on all the children’s measures as well as on fathers’ avoidant coping strategies. Path analysis examined the multidimensional risk model for the LD and non-LD groups. The study found a high fit between the theoretical model and the empirical findings as well as a different pattern of relationship between the model’s components for the two populations studied. Discussion focuses on understanding the unique value of vulnerability and protective factors at the individual and family levels on children’s well-adjusted functioning.

Objectives This study explored how the father, who is battling cancer, perceives his life through his life story. Methods Inquiry was studied through life history research, which is a qualitative research method to understand the context in which educational phenomena are created through the life stories of participants. Life history research is a useful research method to understand how the specific choices and behaviors of the elderly in the past life process are reflected in the current quality of life and interpretation of life. I wanted to explore how to find the meaning of the rest of my life. To this end, data were collected until the health of the study participants was allowed based on open and unstructured interviews with their fathers, in-depth interviews, audio recordings, autobiographical journals, photos, and conversations through SNS. Results Through the life story, the story was told in chronological order from childhood to old age, and it is classified into 9 themes as follows. 1) memories of mother and father, 2) school days and the beginning of social life, 3) marriage and childbirth, 4) difficult or sad moments raising children, 5) rewarding moments raising children, 6) children Difficulties raising a child, 7) Thinking about the father’s role, 8) Looking back on the whole life: If children/adolescence, middle age, and old age are expressed in a metaphorical way, 9) What do you think is the legacy that parents would like to pass on to their children? Conclusions In the interview, the father looked back on his life throughout childhood, adolescence, adolescence, middle age, and old age and talked about his experiences as a father while raising children. Through the life story, I was able to fully feel the life of a man and the life of a father in a family.

In the Church’s teaching fatherhood is defined as a vocation and constitutes an element of family life that is significant and difficult to replace. However, social changes and contemporary problems connected with the functioning of family have lead to a modification of the father model, and even the thesis about its crisis has appeared. This is why pastoral care for fathers of the family is one of the priorities of the family pastorate. Creating structures and methods of such a pastorate is a pastoral postulate. It is worth returning to the practice of special teachings for fathers as well as establishing workshops, retreats, pilgrimages and other forms of work with fathers. Experiences of Catholic families associations that give broadly understood support to fathers are especially valuable, as well as the grass-roots Inicjatywa Tato.Net that actively promotes responsible fatherhood.

Father’s involvement in his family typically has beneficial effects on maternal health during pregnancy and on his child’s health and well-being. The strength and pattern of these effects vary, however, and most studies consider only a few factors that contribute to father involvement. In this study, we describe development and pilot testing of the Father Resources Survey Instrument, which consists of twenty-nine questions measuring eleven dimensions and designed to assess psychological, social, and work-related resources associated with father’s involvement in his family. The final pilot test indicates that the Father Resources Instrument may help to understand a father’s involvement in his female partner’s pregnancy and the health and well-being of his child.

The present study examined men’s perceptions of their father’s general expectations of them when they were growing up and what the effects have been on their lives. Previous research suggests fathers influence sons’ development, but few studies have examined sons’ perceptions qualitatively. Participants were 252 demographically diverse community-dwelling and college men (ages 18-78; 36.5% men of color). Descriptive coding and content analysis were used to analyze written open-ended responses from an online questionnaire. Results suggest that fathers’ expectations for their sons are quite influential. Common topics of expectations reported by participants included Academics, Work Ethic, Athletics, Family, Career, Independence and Self-Reliance, Authenticity, and Happiness. Sons who perceived their fathers as supporting their authentic selves without having unattainable expectations reported positive impacts. Rigid and ill-fitting expectations may have negative effects. These findings suggest fathers are an important influence on their sons with positive or negative impacts on their well-being, depending on how well the expectations fit their sons.

The status of a father with many children is also being transformed. Fathers with many children today have begun to assert their rights more, which inevitably leads to the need for their revision. This determines the relevance of this study. The article analyzes sociological studies of multiple-child families from the point of view of their property status, the ability to work, improve their qualifications and career opportunities. The opinion of large families themselves about the problems they have to face with is studied. The status of a father with many children is studied in the context of his labor rights. Several studies have shown the impact of parenthood on academic careers and the existence of a motherhood penalty. However, fathers' experiences of reconciling caring responsibilities with academic work are less studied. The article explores the representations of fatherhood and men's reconciliation practices in Italian academia. The analysis is based on 64 semi-structured interviews with male associate professors and postdoc researchers in various Italian universities, working in STEM and SSH departments. The results indicate that, in the early stages of the academic career, men similarly to women tend to postpone parenthood or to "choose" not to have children. Those men who have children, instead, enact different models of fatherhood that we have called the ‘absent father', the ‘negotiator' and the ‘present father', without significant differences among disciplines or academic positions. However, only a minority of fathers are closely involved in childcare, and they experience penalties and work-related stress. The article gives insights into possible policies to support the work-life balance of the (still rare) involved academic fathers and to encourage the others to share care duties more equally with their partners.

Participants read a story about an employed mother or father who demonstrated very little direct involvement in the care of his or her child. As hypothesized, impressions of a mother who did not play a central role in care giving were more affected by whether or not she had a clear situational reason for not providing care (i.e., she was out of town) than impressions of a father. These findings imply continuing differences in child care expectations for mothers and fathers.

For the last quarter of a century, American academics and literati have assumed that the traditional father figure was supernumerary and rather optional. This perspective viewed a child's life-space trajectory as little perturbed if a father was present or not. The present paper argues against this assumption. Available evidence clearly indicates that fathers do enhance their children's well-being. The problems aligned with fatherlessness are analyzed, and modest proposals are proffered to re-establish fathering as central to a child's growth and development within American society.

The parable of the father and his two sons in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 15:11-32) makes part of a series of parables depicting the attitude of God toward sinful man. It is the attitude of seeking, concern, love, and joy in the presence of which nobody, even the greatest sinner, is excluded. The present article focuses on that attitude by exposing relationships between father and his two sons. Despite the fact that the narrative presents the events from the perspective of the sons, the father can be considered the main character of the parable. The story of the sons shows the drama of father’s love which was rejected and misunderstood by them. Both sons lose their dignity by denying their father’s love, but only the younger seems to realize it. The father shows both of them the same love and assures them that in his eyes they have never lost their sonship and they have never been deprived of it. Each of the children has to be re-adopted; each in his own way indicated by the father. The younger has to accept paternal forgiveness which is full of mercy and joy prompted by his return. The elder, on the other hand, has to imitate the mercy and joy offered by the father to his younger son.

Paternity of Abraham was very obvious in the biblical time. Israelites treated him as their father who was chosen by God. They believed next generation would be blessed because of God’s promise for Abraham. Also arising Christianity treated him as a progenitor. But a character of his paternity changed. Christians put an accent of his very strong faith instead of physical aspect of his fatherhood. Fathers’ of the Church teaching came in the same way, although they saw him also as an example of father in the physical aspect.

Using in-depth interviews with twenty-six teen fathers, I explore how these young men negotiate the absent-father discourse in making sense of their identities as young dads. I find that teen fathers draw on culturally available notions of gender and age in their attempts to construct and maintain good-dad identities. Teen fathers deploy the expectation that “most dad’s aren’t around” to “lower the bar” and elevate their own performance by comparison. Teen fathers also feel the need to defend themselves from the discourse’s assumptions by invoking tropes of adult masculinity—insisting that “fatherhood means stepping up” and “being a man.” Because the fathers are unable to meet all the expectations of adult manhood, they create an escape hatch for themselves by citing their own adolescence and claiming a need for youthful freedom. Ironically, by invoking gendered and aged norms of adulthood, the fathers reify those norms into something harder to escape.

AbstractThis article examines the startling attention accounts of Eastern Han (24-220 CE) mourning give to depictions of the mother-son bond. Such attention can be explained in terms of the rise of cultural stereotypes about the bonds between mothers and sons, as well as fathers and sons, from the first century BCE. Whereas elite thinkers and statesmen claimed that the relationship between fathers and sons was more analogous to official duty, they regarded the relationship between mother and son as emotional, personal (si), and close (qin). As such, the mother-son bond came to represent an ideological alternative to the early Han ethos of official service, an ethos epitomized by the slogan, "duty to lord and father" (junfu zhi yi).

AbstractDifferences in mothers' and fathers' relationships with siblings and children's behavior problems were studied in a sample of 63 8-year-olds and their families. Mothers and fathers independently provided information about their relationships with siblings, and mothers rated children's adjustment and temperament. Children whose relationships with mothers and fathers were more conflictual and less close than their siblings' relationships had more emotional temperaments and more behavior problems than did other children in the sample. Mothers' and fathers' differential relationships with children were examined in combination. Children had the fewest behavior problems if both parents were closer to them than to their sibling, and they had the most behavior problems if both parents were closer to their sibling than to them. In families in which the mother was closer to one sibling and the father was closer to the other sibling, children had adjustment outcomes that fell in between the other two groups but did not differ significantly from them.
