Texto completo da fonteThe construction industry is one of the oldest project-based industries of our time. In construction projects a lot of information is created and distributed, often as construction documents which are legally binding documents which form the basis for the execution of a building. It may be unclear who will read the documents, who’s responsible that documents gets read, that the documents have been understood and executed and how the information is forwarded in the workplace. There are many parameters that are important for managing construction documents, such as accountability, communication, etc. The aim of this study was to identify and answer the question set by the authors. How does STRABAG Sveriges construction document managing work? Since STRABAG Sverige is a typical Swedish contractor the authors consider that the result can be generalized in the sector. Two case studies were carried out at two of STRABAG Sveriges projects. The authors of the report used a qualitative approach in their observation of the projects. The authors conducted their data collection through qualitative interviews with the leading production staff that the authors selected. This was done to answer their thesis. Throughout the project it became clear that the managing of construction documents is connected to a lot of different parameters. Some of the problems that were determined were for example the start of the buildingprojects, where the routines weren’t properly carried out. Some other examples of problems were insufficient distribution lists, the introduction of new personnel and intern communication. The problems that were determined were analysed in comparison with the theory from literature and conclusions were made out of this material. Thus, STRABAG Sverige received recommendations from the authors about how to improve their management of the construction documents.

Texto completo da fonteThere is an old saying, that after Epaminondas nothing was ever the same again. In this thesis I will focus on three questions: "Epaminondas the man." Who was he? "Epaminondas the general." How did he change the technique of warfare that made it possible to beat the Spartans? "Epaminondas, founder of cities and wall-builder." How did he build the walls around the cities he initiated, that made them resist enemy attacks for many years to come?
While seeking the answers to yhese questions I will make a contextual analysis to get the historical background to all the phenomina involved.

Texto completo da fonteThe Dissertation analyzes the 'cartographic' sections of the books III and IV of Strabo’s Geography, which are reported in Greek and accompanied by an Italian translation, a brief comment and an essential bibliography. The basis for this critical analysis is, from time to time, a brief historical profile of the examined region because, ultimately, it is the history that reveals the information “about the position of the places and about the distances" (Polybius). In accordance with Strabo’s description, Iberia, Gaul and Britain represent the milestones of the Roman conquest, that was decisive for the perception and the representation of the most internal areas of the western Europe. This regional trisection corresponds the three chapters of the Dissertation; the sub-divisions of each chapter reflect the peculiarities of the different areas described by Strabo’s sources (Polybius, Posidonius, Artemidorus). The topography of the lived space and the geometric schemes of the bigger geographical areas belong to two different criteria of representation. The general picture establishes an orthogonal scheme. Dictated by erroneous north-south course of the Pyrenees (that derives from Polybius) and based on the delineation of the main physical elements (rivers and mountains), this orthogonal scheme stretches until the Rhine, involving also the southern coast of the Britain. A problem rests unsolved: in which way this scheme

This work investigates some aspects of the Federico Fellini's aesthetics, foregrounding the "humoristic" element, present in his films. This element is quite associated with the “clown” and, through this element, we reach at what we call, in this dissertation, the aesthetic of “clownesco”. We did this after discussing the Guido Aristarco statements, important defender of Neorealism in Italian Cinema, who saw in the Federico Fellini's work a kind of "betrayal" to the cinematographic Italian movement (a movement very close to a realistic policy, in post-war). Thus, by analyzing the film La Strada (Italy, 1954) and focusing on the comments about his movies, as well as his career, we investigated the “Clown” in the filmmaker's aesthetic, reaching a critical social behind the laughter, which has the "clownesco" as its high point.

Texto completo da fonteThe dissertation consists in a critical edition, from the medieval manuscripts, of Strabo’s Geography book XVII, a description of the countries crossed by the Nile (Egypt and Ethiopia) and Libya written at the turn of our era. It comes with a French translation and a commentary. The introduction reconsiders first the textual tradition of the book to establish the choice of the manuscripts. Then, the author replaces the book XVII in general, and Egypt in particular, within the framework of Strabo’s life and work, and attempts to identify the methodological, stylistic and rhetorical issues of the text, in particular the rhetoric of the praise of Rome and August, structuring principle of the whole Geography. The commentary explains the editorial decisions for establishing the Greek text, and highlights Strabo’s text by confronting it with our other data about the considered spaces and time (geographical, historical, literary, papyrological, epigraphical, archaeological, botanical, zoological)

Texto completo da fonteMotorsport is almost as old as the motor vehicle itself. Since the beginning it has been used as a proving ground for new technology and as a means of marketing for automotive brands. As time has gone by however, road and race cars would appear to have diverged. In the years leading up to 2014, there was a concerted effort to make Formula 1 more road relevant. Formula 1 effectively became a competition to minimise specific fuel consumption. These engines are now among the most efficient spark ignition units on the planet, hence evaluating what technologies could potentially be transferred to other applications has obvious appeal. In addition to potential for technology transfer, the racing environment is also intriguing due to rapid development cycles. As model development times are also coming under increasing pressure in the road car world, perhaps elements of racing development methodology can inspire new approaches to shortening time-to-market of passenger car vehicles. The aim of this work is therefore to examine which technologies and methodologies from modern race-car engineering can be applied as they are, or with opportune modifications, to high performance road vehicles. Firstly, the differing objectives and constraints of road versus race development are considered. A significant common objective is full load performance. A significant constraint, present only for road cars, is emissions legislation. Prechamber ignition systems are identified as a promising means of meeting performance targets for both applications, although their introduction in road cars is shown to be more problematic due to the additional constraints. A new prechamber concept engine is introduced and experimental results are presented. Whichever combustion concept is chosen, a key performance limitation is knock. As this is a topic that has been studied almost since the birth of the automobile, there is a rich vein of literature available. A detailed literature survey is presented covering a century of activity in the field. Despite all the existing contributions, a gap is identified between typical experimental results interpretation and complex “first principles” CFD models. A simple acoustic model of engine combustion chambers is proposed and constructed in CFD. This is benchmarked against historic literature and modern engine data. It is shown to help understand what occurs between autoignition events and cylinder pressure measurements. Opportunities to use such modelling for knock location identification, with a reduced number of sensors in comparison to standard techniques, are also presented. New knock calibration and control techniques are also proposed. Fuel has historically been a key area of knock research. Formula 1 features tailored fuels for each engine manufacturer. Although this is not possible for road cars, a similar fuel development workflow using Rapid Compression Machine and Shock Tube facilities is demonstrated to produce a surrogate version of a full boiling range high octane gasoline. This is shown to perform very similarly to the reference blend during on-engine testing. Finally, accelerated development through use of powertrain facilities for whole vehicle testing and cyclic optimisation of injection parameters is discussed. Through the activity presented, it is shown that despite the apparent divergence in road and race car technology, much of the learning taken from a racing environment can be harnessed for modern passenger cars. New approaches which can aid in development of both powertrain types are also demonstrated. In what some consider the last days of the internal combustion engine, it is shown that there is still much potential left to explore.

Texto completo da fonteThis paper aims to reconstruct the normative framework concerning road freight transport and it verifies the evolution of the normative aspects in this specific sector. In particular the research analyses the suitability of the internal regulations system to promote a sustainable transport system as stated by the European objectives. First of all the study deals with the general aspects of the legislative provisions and subsequently it examines in depth the current regulations. The paper identifies the measures to regulate road freight transport and specifically the public aspects of the legislation. The most important regulatory intervention came about by means of the Italian Law n. 298/1974, finalised to establish a National Register and subsequent actions for road freight transport and to identify the requirements needed to carry out haulage activities. Another important measure is the Italian Legislative Decree (D.lgs) n. 286/2005 and the following actions oriented to the full liberalization of the transport market. Finally the research examines the Regulation (EC) No 1071/2009 and the Regulation (EC) No 1072/2009 of the European Parliament (Council of 21 October 2009) on common rules for access to the international road haulage market and their effects on the Italian internal regulation system. Under these new dispositions the prescriptive structure of road freight transport has been modified. The main guideline of the new regulations concerns the qualification of the transport system by new requirement needed to exercise the road haulage and common laws to access to the market of road freight transport. To assess the potential weaknesses of the Italian regulatory system, related to the achievement of the European objectives above mentioned, the research evaluated the efficiency of road freight transport models with particular reference to the incidence of the external costs originated from transport. Specific attention was also given to on own account transport regulation.

Particularly, it has been studied the most critical interaction situation between a car and a weak user: night schedule, without public illumination; weak user dressed with dark suits and devoid of light devices; vehicle without headlights.

Texto completo da fonteIn the ancient Greek world, the study of geological phenomena and of the configuration of the Earth’s crust is a part of physical geography and meteorology, and underwent considerable development throughout the Hellenistic period. Historians of geology generally accept that such studies were lacking and devoid of scientific method. On the contrary, we will see that from Aristotle to Plutarch, in an abundant and often fragmentary literature, explanatory systems were developed to account for the specific features of the terrestrial world. Our corpus extends from the fourth century BC to the second century AD, i.e. from the development of a systematic scientific program by the scholars of the Lyceum, mostly followed by the Stoic Posidonius, to the doxography of the Opinions of the Philosophers, the extreme form of a tendency to give an overview of Greek knowledge taken over by the authors of the imperial period (Strabo, Seneca, Pliny). We focus on scientific, philosophical, historical and geographical works, with particular emphasis on the Greek and Latin lexicon of the Earth sciences. The first part sets out the conditions that enabled to think about the Earth, a globe that astronomy, physics and geography built as an object of scientific study ; we then move on to the study of geodynamic phenomena and the ancient concept of geological time and specifically terrestrial rhythms ; finally, we shortly present technical reflections on ways of exploiting the Earth through the prism of mining geology and edaphology

Texto completo da fonteThis thesis aims to explain the level and the importance of visual-verbalmaterial influence on EFL vocabulary acquisition. The previous studies on this topicfocus mainly on younger learners, while this thesis examines the researchphenomenon at the university level among English language and literature students. The research is based on four data sources: (1) the questionnaire which wascompleted by all the students (N=71) with the aim to provide general data of thesample and to get the clearer picture about their thoughts and attitudes towards usingvisual-verbal material in the classroom, as well as towards the importance and theinfluence of visual communication on EFL vocabulary acquisition; (2) the test as apart of the experiment with parallel groups, conducted with the second and the fourthyear students (N=41) where visual-verbal material was used as an experimentalfactor; (3) the narratives which students of the two experimental groups were obligedto write after vocabulary classes, in order to provide broad picture and more precisedata about the experimental classes, and (4) the interview with the selected studentsfrom both year of study experimental and control groups (20 interviews). This kind ofresearch, based on these four data sources, was the way to collect the precise dataabout the research phenomenon, and also to provide the reliability and the validity ofthe used methodology. The results of the research were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Onthe basis of the final results, it can be concluded that the influence of the visual-verbalmaterial on EFL vocabulary acquisition is generally positive. It is also noticed that theinfluence on the acquisition of word meaning and spelling was statistically significant, but the influence on acquisition of word form and low-frequency words was notstatistically significant. Although students’ attitudes towards the importance of visualverbalmaterial and conducted experimental classes are positive, it is noticed thatstudents very rarely use memory strategies (visual-verbal material usage). Thepotential of this research lies in the prepositions of teaching EFL vocabulary at theuniversity level with more visual-verbal annotations, with the aim to help students ineasier and more successful acquisition of English language vocabulary, as well as inorder to help teachers in achieving more creative and more interesting surrounding forEFL vocabulary classes.
