Modern static-analysis tools provide powerful and specific insights into codebases. The Linux kernel team, for example, developed Coccinelle, a powerful tool for searching, analyzing, and rewriting C source code; because the Linux kernel contains more than 27 million lines of code, a static-analysis tool is essential both for finding bugs and for making automated changes across its many libraries and modules. Another tool targeted at the C family of languages is Clang scan-build, which comes with many useful analyses and provides an API for programmers to write their own analyses. Like so many things in computer science, the utility of static analysis is self-referential: To write reliable programs, we must also write programs for our programs. But this is no paradox. Static-analysis tools, complex though their theory and practice may be, are what will enable us, and engineers of the future, to overcome this challenge and yield the knowledge and insights that we practitioners deserve.

Double-twist torsion tests were used to determine static softening in the hot working range of three tool steels – W1, a carbon steel (1.03% C - 0.8% other elements), A2 and D2, a medium and a high alloy steel, containing 8.45% and 14.82% alloying elements. The carbon steel, that was single-phase austenite in the hot-working range, experienced rapid static recrystallization due to increased diffusion rate caused by C in hot austenite, very little alloying solute and no carbides. Carbides in alloy tool steels, which exist throughout the hot-working range, have a retarding effect on the progress of recrystallization but are responsible for enhancing initiation due to formation of nuclei at the strain concentration near the particle/matrix interface. Static recrystallization (SRX) of the alloy tool steels was compared with austenitic stainless steels, with similar strengths but much greater alloying content, and with microalloyed steels, as well as with the dynamic recrystallization kinetics.

Static-analysis tools suffer from usability issues such as a high rate of false positives, lack of responsiveness, and unclear warning descriptions and classifications. Here, we explore the effect of applying user-centered approach and design guidelines to SWAN, a security-focused static-analysis tool for the Swift programming language. SWAN is an interesting case study for exploring static-analysis tool usability because of its large target audience, its potential to integrate easily into developers' workflows, and its independence from existing analysis platforms.

Due to the large size and large span of heavy-duty machine tools, the structural deformation errors caused by gravity account for a large proportion of the static errors, and the influence of gravity deformation must thus be considered in the machine tool precision design. This paper proposes a precision design method for heavy-duty vertical machining centers based on gravity deformation error modelling. By abstracting the machine tool into a multibody system topology, the static error model of the machine tool is established based on the multibody system theory and a homogeneous coordinate transformation. Assuming that the static error of each motion axis is composed of two parts, i.e., the manufacturing-induced geometric error and the gravity deformation error, the machine tool stiffness model of the relationship between gravity and deformation error is developed using the spatial beam elements. In the modelling process, the stiffness coefficients and volume coefficients of the components are introduced to fully consider the influences of structural parameters on machine tool precision. Taking the machine tool static precision, the component stiffness coefficients and the volume coefficients as the design variables, based on the use of the worst condition method, error sensitivity analysis and global optimization algorithm, the optimal allocation of the static error budget of the machine tool and the structural design requirements of each component are determined, providing a valuable guide for the detailed structure design and manufacture processing of the machine tool components.

To decrease software maintenance cost, software development companies use static source code analysis techniques. Static analysis tools are capable of finding potential bugs, anti-patterns, coding rule violations, and they can also enforce coding style standards. Although there are several available static analyzers to choose from, they only support issue detection. The elimination of the issues is still performed manually by developers. Here, we propose a process that supports the automatic elimination of coding issues in Java. We introduce a tool that uses a third-party static analyzer as input and enables developers to automatically fix the detected issues for them. Our tool uses a special technique, called reverse AST-search, to locate source code elements in a syntax tree, just based on location information. Our tool was evaluated and tested in a two-year project with six software development companies where thousands of code smells were identified and fixed in five systems that have altogether over five million lines of code.

This study evaluated the validity of the Static-99 and Static-99R in assessing sexual recidivism in Switzerland, based on a sample of 142 male sex offenders. Both tools showed predictive validity, but the Static-99R had better discrimination (OR = 1.82, AUC = .81) and calibration (Brier = .078, P/E = 0.96) than the Static-99. A cut score of four on the Static-99R maximized sensitivity (92.9%) and specificity (60.2%). However, although most offenders (98.7%) with a score < 4 did not commit sexual offenses in the 5-year follow-up period, only one in five (20.3%) offenders with a score ≥ 4 actually recidivated. Furthermore, the predicted number of recidivists in the well above average risk category (Static-99R ≥ 6) was 24% higher than expected in routine samples. The results suggest that the Static-99R may be a useful screening tool to identify low-risk individuals but offenders with scores ≥ 4 should be subjected to a more thorough assessment.

There are many slicing techniques such as static, dynamic, and amorphous. In this paper, we choose to develop a new approach applying static slicing on Java programs. The new approach simplifies the data dependency using arrays. A new Tool called Java Multi-Slicing Tool (JavaMST) has been introduced to apply this approach.</p><p>JavaMST presents new ways to slice any simple java code segment, it allows you to extract the variables and its direct and indirect dependencies from the code, using backward, forward or both slicing techniques to produce the needed code. This tool is a simple tool designed to deal with simple java code segments. JavaMST can be run under any operating system and does not require a specialized platforms or plug-ins. The accuracy of a machine tool is a result of many factors. It significantly depends on its design features. Therefore, designing a machine tool requires experience in this field and knowledge of the values of static and dynamic parameters, which the design should have. Such data are usually the know-how of the manufacturer of machine tools and are not available to companies which start such works or wish to construct a machine tool for their needs. The article presents the results of FEM analyses of four heavy-duty planer mills regarding static stiffness, dynamic stiffness and the frequency and form of free vibrations. The article relates these properties to the mass and dimensions of the working space of the machine tool. A coefficient has also been proposed to describe the relationship between these quantities. This is a unique approach proposed by the author. The analysis results presented show which machine tool properties can be expected depending on the size of the machine tool. The presented set of results is unique due to the number and size of machine tools. It can be used to compare similar designs and to support the design and optimisation of new designs. The results can also be used at the design stage to assess the expected accuracy of the machine tool.

Machine tool vibrations have great impact on machining process. Modal testing is a form of vibration testing which is able to determine the Frequency Response Function (FRF) of the mechanical test structures. In this paper, the main focus is to identify a procedure to obtain natural frequency values for machine tool components in order to establish better conditions in the cutting process on the machine tool. For this purpose, a 3D model of the machine tools structure is made using design software and exported to analysis software. Later on, the Finite Element Method (FEM) modal analysis was used to obtain the natural frequencies. The model is evaluated and corrected through an experimental modal test. In the experiment, the machine tool vibration is excited by impact hammer and the response of excited vibration is recorded. In the end, the result of both FEM and experimental shows a good consistency in comparison.

Large wear of diamond tools for ultra-precision cutting of soft metals deteriorates quality of machined surface, and the worn tools have to be replaced with new tools when the tool wear reaches limited wear land width of cutting edge generating finished surface. However, it is difficult to predict the tool life since all cutting tools have individual tool life. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to estimate wear land width of cutting edge of a single crystal diamond tool having large nose radius by using static cutting forces during machining. As a result of the cutting tests and measurements, it was found that the ratio of thrust force to principal force had good relation with the ratio of flank wear land area to cutting cross section area. Furthermore, according to some detailed observation of flank wear, width of flank wear land was greatly related to uncut chip thickness obtained under different cutting conditions and it was found that width of flank wear land could be estimated by measured static cutting forces and cutting conditions.

The development of flexible automation in the manufacturing industry is concerned with production activities performed by unmanned machining systems. A major topic relevant to metal-cutting operations is monitoring tool wear, which affects process efficiency and product quality, and implementing automatic tool replacements. In this paper, the measurement of the cutting force components has been found to provide a method for an in-process detection of tool wear. Cutting force components are divided into static and dynamic components in this paper. The static components of cutting force have been used to detect flank wear and the dynamic components of cutting force have been analyzed to detect crater wear. To eliminate the influence of variations in cutting conditions, tools, and workpiece materials, the relationships between normalized cutting forces and cutting conditions are established. According to the proposed method, the static and dynamic force components could provide the effective means to detect flank and crater wear for varying cutting conditions in turning operation.

Simultaneously, simulation and Experiment study of the spindle static rigidity was carried out, and practicability of the simulation analysis method was proved. The result indicates that the biggest deformation appears in the front of spindle. The static rigidity of spindle can been enhanced greatly by enhancing three carriage-feed system’s static rigidity of machine tool. The simulation for the dynamic rigidity of spindle indicates that the dynamic rigidity of spindle is uniformly distributed and resonance can be avoided effectively by the spindle when working.

Taking XDK650X engraving and milling machine as an example, integrating the combined interface parameters into the whole machine tool model with the help of finite element method, the dynamic model contained combined interface characteristics of the whole machine tool was built, and investigation on static and dynamic characteristic were carried out. Then, the relative stiffness between the tool and the platform was analyzed by using harmonic respond analyzing method. It was concluded that XDK650X engraving and milling machine has bigger static stiffness in three directions compared with other similar machines, but has comparatively smaller static stiffness in X direction, a bigger relative vibration amount between the tool and the platform in Y direction. Therefore preponderant natural frequency should be avoided in usage, the static stiffness in X direction and the dynamic stiffness in Y direction need for enhancement in structural optimization.

Performance analysis and tuning of parallel/distributed applications are very difficult tasks for non-expert programmers. It is necessary to provide tools that automatically carry out these tasks. These can be static tools that carry out the analysis on a post-mortem phase or can tune the application on the fly. Both kind of tools have their target applications. Static automatic analysis tools are suitable for stable application while dynamic tuning tools are more appropriate to applications with dynamic behaviour. In this paper, we describe KappaPi as an example of a static automatic performance analysis tool, and also a general environment based on parallel patterns for developing and dynamically tuning parallel/distributed applications.

The paper is dedicated to search for taint-based errors in the source code of programs, i.e. errors caused by unsafe use of data obtained from external sources, which could potentially be modified by an attacker. The interprocedural static analyzer Svace was used as a basis. The analyzer searches both for defects in the program and searches for suspicious places where the logic of the program may be violated. The goal is to find as many errors as possible at an acceptable speed and a low level of false positives (< 20-35%). To find errors, Svace with help of modified compiler builds a low-level typed intermediate representation, which is used as an input to the main SvEng analyzer. The analyzer builds a call graph and then performs summary-based analysis. In this analysis, the functions are traversed according to the call graph starting from the leaves. After analyzing the function, its summary is created, which will then be used to analyze the call instructions. The analysis has both high speed and good scalability. Intra-procedural analysis is based on symbolic execution with the union of states at merge points of paths. An SMT solver can be used to filter out infeasible paths for some checkers. In this case, the SMT-solver is called only if there is a suspicion of an error. The analyzer has been expanded to find defects of tainted data using. The checkers are implemented as plugins by using the source-sink scheme. The sources are calls of library functions that receive data from outside the program, as well as the arguments of the main function. Sinks are accessing to arrays, using variables as a step or loop boundary, calling functions that require checked arguments. Checkers covering most of the possible types of vulnerabilities for tainted integers and strings have been implemented. The Juliet project was used to assess the coverage. The false negative rate ranged from 46,31% to 81.17% with a small number of false positives.

Static behavior (under torsion and bending loading) of machine tool column was studied in this paper. The effects of changing the cross sectional area of the column itself on the deformations (design parameters) was investigated. The adding of stiffeners and changing the stiffeners cross sectional area are also verified. The results show that using of stiffeners can produse a great reduction in deformation of the column structure under the stastic loading mentioned above. Also using stiffeners with different cross-sectional areas suggest the best stiffener cross-sectional shape can be used to give the minimum deformations of column structure. Dynamic analysis of column involves calculating natural frequencies and mode of different column structure mentioned above, these frequencies are fairly insensitive of adding stiffeners to colmn structures.

The stiffness model of the parallel machine tool is established by static analysis, the static stiffness analysis is carried out through numerical Simulation and the stiffness distribution is given. On the basis of this, the optimal objective is given which is the average of 729 values of -axis stiffness and -axis stiffness corresponding to 729 positions in the workspace. With MATLAB software, the effects are simulated which the structural parameters of the parallel machine tool have on their stiffness, their change rules are gained, and this provides a basis for the structural design of this type of machine tools.

The rigidity and natural frequency of machine tools considerably influence cutting and generate great forces when the tool is in contact with the workpiece. The poor static rigidity of these Vertical Machining Centre machines can cause deformations and destroy the workpiece. If the natural frequency of the machines is low or close to the commonly used cutting frequency, they vibrate considerably, resulting in poor workpiece surfaces and thus shortening the lifespan of the tool. The main objective of this study was to develop an experimental technique for measuring the effect of machine tool stiffness. The static rigidity of the X-axis was found to be 2.20 kg/μm, while the first-, second-, and third-order natural frequencies were 27.3, 34.4, and 48.3 Hz, respectively. When an external force of 1000 N was applied, the Y-axis motor load was found to be approximately 2740 N-mm. In this study, the finite element method was mainly used to analyze the structure, static force, modal, frequency spectrum, and transient state of machine tools. The results of the static analysis were verified and compared to the experimental results. The analysis model and conditions were modified to ensure that the analysis results were consistent with the experimental results. Multi-body dynamics analyses were conducted by examining the force of each component and casting of the machine tools and the load of the motor during the cutting stroke. Moreover, an external force was applied to simulate the load condition of the motor when the machine tool is cutting to confirm the feed. In this study, we used topology optimization for effective structural optimization designs. The optimal conditions for topology optimization included lightweight structures, which resulted in reduced structural deformation and increased natural frequency.

An analysis of publications has shown that mechanically clamped indexable inserts are predominantly used in modern tool manufacturing. Each insert has its shape and geometry in the tool coordinate system. The static system’s required geometry is achieved by the tilting of the insert pocket in the radial and axial directions. Therefore, it is of great importance in the tool design to know the relationships between the insert’s geometry parameters in the tool coordinate system where the geometry paraments of the insert are defined and working geometry parameters of the tool defined in the static coordinate system. The paper presents the developed methodology for determining the insert pocket base surface position to ensure the required values of the tool geometry parameters of the selected indexable insert in the static coordinate system. The graphs of the dependence of each of the angles of the insert geometry on the angles of rotation of this insert in the front and profile planes are presented as the level lines for practical use. Using these graphs, one can optimize all geometric insertion parameters in the static coordinate system. The model of the calculations of the mechanism of the insert clamping by a screw is developed. The basic size and tolerance of the output link determine the distance from the intersection line of the base surfaces to the thread axis on the pocket and the minimum amount of the screw stroke on the insert clamping in the pocket. The rapid development of construction projects in Indonesia is directly proportional to the tools created and developed to assist and facilitate activities in the work. The tools no longer fully use human power but humans are only a part of the process of operating the tool. Limited land in the city of Jambi became the main reason in the construction of high-rise buildings. Thus, special technology is needed in order to facilitate the implementation of such development. One of the tools used is the tool for foundation work. Deep foundation construction has a more complex structure compared to shallow foundation construction. Therefore, in the construction of high-rise project, the use of jack in pile is considered very appropriate. One of the advantages of jack in pile is environmental disturbance such as vibration and noise can be minimized. In this research will discuss one type of Jack in Pile that is type Hydraulic Static Pile Driver (HSPD). Where in this case the effectiveness of the use of Hydraulic Static Pile Drivers (HSPD) on the Odua Weston project will be discussed according to the literature and supporting data available. Keywords: Effectiveness of Pollution, HSPD, SWOT Analysis
