In many languages, terms denoting the human body and its parts constitute a closed subclass of nouns with special grammatical properties. Many if not all parts of the human body may acquire dimensions of meanings with ethnographic importance. I focus on a tri-partite division of visible and invisible parts of a human and their attributes in Manambu, a Ndu language spoken in the East Sepik province of Papua New Guinea. The trichotomy of ‘body’ (səp), ‘mind’ (mawul) and ‘spirit’ (kayik) in Manambu reflects a culturally embedded conceptualization of what a human is. Each of the three taxonomic units has specific grammatical properties. The physical and mental profile of a human being in Manambu (as in many other languages) cannot be appreciated without understanding the grammar. Conversely, a structural analysis of a language is incomplete unless it makes reference to the system of belief and concepts encoded in it.

At the root of all living beings is our breath -- without it, we are not alive. Eastern practices such as yoga and meditation are conveyed through the awareness of our breath and the encouragement to be present in what our physical bodies are telling us. This awareness is a huge influence in architectural design. Building well and thinking well are in turn living well, and this architectural thesis served as a journey in discovering how human health can manifest itself in a physical building. The architectural project is an Institute for Being and is located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC. The program of this project consists of spaces to encourage people to seek their own path in spiritual grounding within the otherwise hectic urban context.

This dissertation examines the interdenominational pursuits of the American Presbyterian Church from 1758 to 1801 in order to demonstrate how the Church helped to foster both national and sectional spirit. I have utilized a variety of sources including: the published and unpublished work of both the Synod of New York and Philadelphia and the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, as well as published and unpublished Presbyterian sermons, lectures, hymnals, poetry and letters. With these sources I argue that a self-imposed interdenominational transformation began in the American Presbyterian Church upon its reunion in 1758 and that this process was altered by the Churchs experience during the American Revolution. The resulting interdenominational goals had both spiritual and national objectives. As the leaders in the Presbyterian Church strove for unity in Christ and Country, I contend that they created fissures in the Church that would one day divide it as well as further the sectional rift that would lead to the Civil War.

This dissertation builds upon stress and burnout research on school leaders by exploring the beliefs and practices regarding well-being and self-renewal of principals identified as successful. This study utilized a 3-fold framework that consisted of mind, body, and spirit, falling under the all-encompassing umbrella of thriving, asserting the three domains work together to support the optimal well-being of the leader. The research questions were as follows: (1) In what ways are principals' well-being and self-renewal supported by principals' personal beliefs and practices, district policies and practices, and educational programs and organizations? (2) To what extent does attentiveness to well-being and practices of self-renewal impact professional success and work satisfaction, and well-being and flourishing? This study included a diverse group of six principals, all identified as successful and all with three or more years of experience as administrators. The case study consisted of mostly interviews with some survey inquiry. The primary method of analysis was holistic descriptive and in vivo coding with loose applications of formal protocols provided by Saldaña (2009). In my final analysis the participant responses were organized into categories and layered into my pre-existing framework of mind, body, and spirit. The findings from the study revealed the current successes and challenges in the personal and professional renewal of principals. The findings yielded implications for research and practice specific to principals, school districts, and principal preparation programs.

The hypotheses of the current study are that (1) black women will be more spiritual and (2) will have more knowledge of the Holy Spirit than white women, and (3) spirituality will be negatively correlated with eating disorder symptomatology and body dissatisfaction. (4) African American women will have lower body dissatisfaction and (5) less eating disorder symptomatology than Caucasian women. It is predicted that (6) ethnicity will have more influence on eating disorder symptomatology and spirituality than current and ideal weight. (7) Current weight will have more influence on body dissatisfaction than ethnicity or ideal weight. Finally, (8) the ideal weight of black women will be higher than that of white women. Participants included 95 African American and Caucasian female college students. All the hypotheses were supported. Prospective research can discern whether racial differences in spirituality have causal influence on healthier body image held by many black women.

"Body, Soul, Spirit Healing for Those Approaching Death| Narrative Research into a Sacred Feminine Perspective on End-of-Life Care, a Healing Deathbed via a Body-Soul-Spirit Positionality Paradigm". This dissertation considers the characteristics of a sacred feminine perspective toward death and dying in today’s United States. A sacred feminine perspective as brought to the deathbed by women healers respects the sanctity of life; intuitively adopts a holistic perspective; and witnesses, not observes, the dying through active engagement on physical, psychological, and spiritual levels. A sacred feminine perspective affirms the dying person’s journey as one of self-acceptance and release. To explore this perspective’s healing power, I pose the following question: How can end-of-life caregiving and religious perspectives on dying be integrated toward a spiritual feminist perspective to create a new paradigm of care for the dying person?

To answer this inquiry, I explored from a phenomenological perspective the stories from end-of-life caregivers, primarily in the United States, as well as literature from other healing modalities to develop a framework that may be used by those assisting the dying. The methodologies I utilized for this study are women’s spiritual ways of knowing, including spiritual feminist hermeneutics. In my research, I applied narrative analysis—integrating organic and intuitive inquiry methods—to relevant literature, including stories from end-of-life caregivers about the types of care used in their work, as well as their interpretations of the dying persons’ experiences. This methodological integration allowed me to achieve a more nuanced understanding of the human experience of dying, and to develop and enhance skillful means for the sacred work of midwifing death.

In this theoretical study, I propose a model called the Body-Soul-Spirit Positionality Paradigm, which holds that each person lives as well as dies primarily through one of three dimensions of self: the body, the soul (defined here as feelings and thoughts), or the spirit. A major objective of this dissertation is the development and illustration of the Body-Soul-Spirit Positionality Paradigm as a practical/theoretical framework for addressing the specific physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual needs of the dying person to help them truly rest in peace.

By understanding the dying person’s positionality, the end-of-life doula will be able to provide personalized access to effective healing modalities such as the implementation of positionality blessing cards.

The article describes an integrative spiritually-oriented approach to working with severe trauma. It is based on two author’s methods. The first one, BEMS-Model (Body-Emotion-Mind-Spirit Model) for short-term therapy of trauma was developed for not only a person, but also for family, groups, and even societies. Its task is to restore the integrity of a person, family, group and society at all levels from body and emotions to mind and spirit. The second method is Systemic constellation in an online group. A combination of these methods produces excellent results confirmed by some examples and feedback mentioned in the article. The article can be used as a manual for independent work with emergent problems.

The great scholar Dimitrie Cantemir, considered the founder of Romanian medical terminology, treats man from the perspective of the three-dimensionality of body, soul, spirit. In the novel Hieroglyphic History, divided into twelve parts …, we attest reminiscences of Geto-Dacian medicine. Plato mentioned that this is one of the most evolved and contains the sacred teaching of human healing. Dimitrie Cantemir explains the state of health and the pathological state within the body → soul relationship, defining the terms megalopsychia and micropsychia, which designate the presence of the “big soul” and the “small soul”, an explanation made by the author. A true psychologist, the scientist mentions the importance of emotional balance, the lack of inner conflict in maintaining health, because “life sitting and serving good account, to cure all and cure”, is “in the form of soul power”, “health and all useful soul and body”.

Abstract: The history and origins of Tibetan Medicine, has its origins in the land of Tibet in the local culture and spirit of the Tibetan people and is based on a holistic vision of the human being, who considers the body, mind and spirit as an interdependent unit. Health is the result of a balance of five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space. In the human body these elements manifest themselves through three humors: the wind, the bile, and the phlegm. When one or more of these moods are in excess or in defect, disharmonies are created that lead to diseases. Despite the fact that it is one of the oldest ethnomedicine in the world, Tibetan medicine contin-ues to be practiced in contemporary society. Current medical and scientific research today con-firms the extraordinary benefits of this ancient oriental science. After the Franco dictatorship, a new chapter occurred in Barcelona’s Democracy. As having fully understood the spirit of Cerda’s planning, the participants in Barcelona urban planning creatively started to use a treatment called acupuncture in the city, which has the same spirit as traditional Chinese medical science, and revived the ruined city, gradually gain back the balanced and sustainable management of the city. The thesis introduces the problems Barcelona met in the post-industrial age and the corresponding solutions, mainly focuses on Barcelona city renewal in the 80s, and tries to explain the relationship between traditional Chinese medical science and city acupuncture, which will be the clue of the thesis. The thesis will be described in three chapters, human body and city under the view of traditional Chinese medical science, acupuncture therapy and the Barcelona model and sustainable development of the balanced city.

Детская психотерапия в информационном сообществе все больше смещается в систему образования. Метод Целебной творческой психолингвистики рассматривается как интегративный в оценке психо-эмоциональных проблем ребенка, в формировании и развитии сферы душевной самоорганизации. The paper dwells upon the necessity of founding the United Center of Child Psychotherapy Development uniting a team of specialists treating body, spirit and soul of a child. Child psychotherapy in information society is increasingly shifting towards the system of education. The method of curative creative psycholinguistics is considered as integrative one as it estimates psychoemotional problems of a child, forms and develops the sphere of mental self-organization.

Indigenous peoples have considered metaphors as important sense-making tools for knowledge transmission and research across different communities. In these contexts, Indigenous craft-design-arts have been used as metaphorical research methodologies and are valuable sources of knowledge generation, bringing concepts from the unseen to the physical realm manifested through our hands and bodies. In particular, Indigenous women have used the embodied practices of weaving and textile making as research methodology metaphors connecting the mind, body, heart and spirit. Situated in the highlands of Chiapas, this research proposes backstrap loom weaving as a decolonial design research methodology aligned with ancestral knowledge from Mesoamerica. For Mayan Tsotsil and Tseltal peoples, jolobil or backstrap loom weaving is a biocultural knowledge linked to the weaver’s well-being as part of a community and is a medium to reconnect with Indigenous ancestry and heritage. Resisting colonisation, this living textile knowledge and practice involve collective memory, adapting and evolving through changes in time. Mayan textiles reflect culture, identity and worldview captured in the intricate patterns, colours, symbols, and techniques. Jolobil as a novel methodological proposal, interweaves decolonial theory, visual-digital-sensorial ethnography, co-design, textiles as resistance, Mayan cosmovision and collective well-being. Nevertheless, it requires the integration of onto-epistemologies from Abya Yala as fundamental approaches like sentipensar and corazonar. Jolobil embodies the interweaving of ancestral knowledge with creative practice where the symbolism of the components is combined with new research interpretations. In this sense, the threads of the warp (urdimbre) representing patrones sentipensantes findings are woven with the weft (trama) as the embodied reflexivity of sentipensar-corazonando. As the weaver supports the loom around her waist, the cyclical back and forth motion of weaving jolobil functions as analysis and creative exploration through sentirpensar and corazonar creating advanced reflexive textile narratives. The interweaving of embodied metaphors and textiles with sentipensar, corazonar, mind, body, heart and spirit, contribute to the creation of decolonising alternatives to design research towards pluriversality, aligned with ways of being and doing research as Mesoamerican and Indigenous women.

Integrative psychotherapy is an orientation in psychotherapy, which appeals to all psychotherapeutic methods including psychotherapies: classic, systemic, cognitive-behavioral, hypnotherapy, analytical psychotherapy, humanistic therapies, etc. The main advantage of integrative psychotherapy is its adaptability to the client’s problem, without the constraint of a relatively limited set of „therapeutic tools”. In integrative psychotherapy, the emphasis is on the psychotherapeutic strategy, the understanding of the problem and the therapeutic relationship. Starting from the systemic conceptualization of the human being, from the body-mind-spirit concept, through the integrative approach a unitary understanding of the complexity of the human being is obtained, in the overall functionality of its manifestations, preserving the vision of the whole, and, at the same time, respecting the uniqueness of the person in the context universal. The concepts of contact in relationships, attachment, states of the Self and the life script are the central concepts of the integrative theory. The term „integrative” refers to the process of personality integration, which involves: - guiding the client to assimilate-awareness and harmonize the contents of his Ego States; - awareness and relaxation of refence mechanisms; - interventions on the script of life; - facilitating contact with the world. By integrating these experiences, people will have the courage to treat every moment of life with an open vision without needing „protection” through arguments, opinions, positions, attitudes or expectations.

The article analyzes the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallachi and her journalistic work during 2017-2020. The actual media image of the figure of Fallachi is highlighted, examples of positive and negative statements are given. It is substantiated why her journalism should be researched in various ways, taking into account other aspects of her work that are not related to Islamophobia. The subject of the study is critical texts in modern foreign media dedicated to the author’s work. The objective of the study is to outline the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallaci and her journalism during 2017-2020. The methodology. The following methods have been used in the process of scientific research: historical, comparative, systems analysis, content synthesis, and others. The main results. In total, we have analyzed eight materials in foreign publications, published over the past 3 years, as well as the two most famous biographies of Oriana Fallaci. Some of the most recent reviewed texts have been published in the last few months, reflecting the interest in the author’s journalism, her writing, and reporting. Therefore, we see the need for further tracking and analysis of this body of texts. Conclusions. Critics of Fallaci express polar views that are not all negative. Authors recommend quite cautiously her texts for reading, emphasizing their positive aspects. Both Fallaci’s biographies are also not entirely complementary: some aspects of her work are glorified, others are condemned. We managed to find general tendencies in the criticism of Oriana Fallaci’s journalism. These include accusations of xenophobia and Islamophobia, uncompromisingness, lack of political correctness, and moral value. The authors emphasize, at the same time, the openness and directness that bribe the reader, patriotism and honesty, strength of spirit and firmness of position. Significance of the research. The analysis of the latest criticism reveals what kind of media image Fallachi’s figure has today, and gives the possibility to research it for demonization and one-sided coverage. This is important not only for thorough research of the author’s work but also for understanding how the modern world perceives journalism, which is contrary to the generally accepted principles of political correctness, journalistic ethics, and humanity.

As a new round of World Trade Organization negotiations is being launched with greater emphasis on developing country participation, a body of literature is emerging which quantifies how international trade affects the poor in developing countries. This survey summarizes and classifies thirty-five studies from this literature into four methodological categories: cross-country regression, partial-equilibrium/cost-of-living analysis, general-equilibrium simulation, and micro-macro synthesis. These categories encompass a broad range of methodologies in current use. The continuum of approaches is bounded on one end by econometric analysis of household expenditure data, which is the traditional domain of poverty specialists, and sometimes labeled the “bottom-up” approach. On the other end of the continuum are computable general equilibrium models based on national accounts data, or what might be called the “top-down” approach. Another feature of several recent trade/poverty studies – and one of the primary conclusions to emerge from the October 2000 Conference on Poverty and the International Economy sponsored by Globkom and the World Bank – is recognition that factor markets are perhaps the most important linkage between trade and poverty, since households tend to be much more specialized in income than they are in consumption. Meanwhile, survey data on the income sources of developing-country households has become increasingly available. As a result, this survey gives particular emphasis to the means by which studies address factor market linkages between trade and poverty. The general conclusion is that any analysis of trade and poverty needs to be informed by both the bottom-up and top-down perspectives. Indeed, recent “two-step” micro-macro studies sequentially link these two types of frameworks, such that general equilibrium mechanisms are incorporated along with detailed household survey information. Another methodology similar in spirit and also increasingly used involves the incorporation of large numbers of surveyed households into a general-equilibrium simulation model. Although most of these studies have so far been limited to a single region, these approaches can be readily adapted for multi-region modeling so that trade-poverty comparisons can be made across countries within a consistent framework.
